I'm going to make a big wild theory here but...

This reads German to me. And the rest seems fancy. In the promos, we saw something fancy, a location that is fancy and we know a character who is very much fancy and looked fancy. 😏

I am not sure but hey, I think Lalo might have gone to Germany to retrieve infos on Werner's men about what "you know who" was doing. Maybe his wife but she wouldn't really know anything apart from confirming that he's dead and that the story behind it seems shady.

If this is the case, Better Call Saul is officialy the best show on TV because Peter Gould and Vince have like 6 billion brain cells and they're using all of them.

Now it could be something else but I have absolutely no idea where he would be if that isn't the case.

"Werneeeer... Ziegleeeer..." The man would indeed be a genius when Tony Dalton teased Lalo's storyline for season 6.

absolutely insane lalo moment was when he groomed that couple to kill the man and burn his body to use it as a double ... like holy shit thats an insanely evil moment ... second only possibly to gus killing that guy by zip tying his limbs and putting a bag over his head.

lalo flips like an absolute switch and its so frightening, because you never know how hes gonna react to something. like when he broke into mrs zieglers house, and theres no way of knowing if hes actually going to kill that innocent women, like he did with, oh you know, the innocent man he killed.

its the fact that hes close with them, takes care of them, give them money for healthcare and is invested in their lives, all so that he can use the body if, IF, he needs to! how insane is that!! my girlfriends crazy crazy!

watching Better Call Saul and I'm just amazed how dumb Gus' overkill secrecy can be. if Werner Ziegler has just been given the weekend off to see his wife they could have monitored him and he'd been happy and able to continue working and nobody would have noticed, but nooo, let's lead a VERY, VERY conspicuous manhunt in broad delight when he inevitable slips out because he can't bear to spend any more time away from the love of his life. If they'd been normal about it and let him have a break then Lalo might not have noticed + fred from travelwire wouldn't have been murdered + they wouldn't have 'had' to kill werner, losing their chief of construction and alienating the crew.

just a little bit less of secrecy would have resulted in a LOT, LOT less secrecy issues

Ok if we can't get Lalo's best moments ranked, how about his smartest/most clever moments? this isn't really a fair question either since he's, you know, a genius

I have plans to rank every Lalo moment on a scary/sexy/silly scale instead lol, but I like this idea too!

Lalo's Clever Moments (in chronological order)

1. Lalo v Gus

Gus had been able to operate pretty smoothly under the radar because the cartel were not sending their best and brightest to ABQ. But as soon as Lalo shows up, he immediately figures out that Gus is up to something. He spots that the product has been altered and discovers that Gus is having something constructed in secret. He's even able to find Werner - how much more info would he have managed to get if Mike had shown up 10 minutes later? Gus is able to bullshit Bolsa with his story about the chicken cooler, but Lalo doesn't buy it.

Lalo's idea to have Domingo rat out Gus's dead drops was also very clever, and Gus takes the hit rather than expose Nacho as a spy. Which was a smart move on Gus's part, because without Nacho in his back pocket, he would have been in big trouble. Gus outplayed Lalo, but that's not the same thing as outsmarting him. Gus wanted him dead because he knew Lalo was closing in on him.

2. Spotting Jimmy's bullshit Lalo figures out that Jimmy had lied about his story. Which - no duh, we might say, but at the same time, it's important to keep in mind that characters don't have all the same info we do. Lalo could have believed Jimmy's story about his car breaking down - that certainly seems like a reasonable explanation. But Lalo knew it smelled funny, then hunted down some evidence to back up his hunch.

Kim's Hail Mary saves the day, but if she hadn't been there, I'm sure Lalo would have gotten the whole story out of Jimmy. Again, a gutsy move and a bit of luck got the best of Lalo, but Lalo was smart to figure out Jimmy's story was a lie.

It’s not the most genius moment on this list, but again, it’s not really fair to judge character’s intelligence based on whether or not they know things that the audience has been made aware of but not the character. Lalo doesn’t get AMC+ He had to deduce it on his own, and once again he was right.

3. The tunnel trap

"Escaping" and then doubling back around to get the jump on the assassins was an extremely clever and highly entertaining plan. Plus, he immediately figures out who betrayed him and who he was working for, and then has the clever plan to have the assassin call in his death, since faking his death will give him a lot of freedom to maneuver. Speaking of which...

4. The body double

It's diabolical, but it's also genius. He even planned it down to getting the dental records to match!

5. Prueba When Hector tells Lalo to find proof of Gus's deceit, Lalo heads to Germany because he knows he was onto something with Werner. Seducing the Widow Ziegler was a clever plan - one that worked - and then being able to track down Casper based on the gift he found in Margarethe's home was such a galaxy brain leap. He really has been Lalo Salamanca, Private Dick this season.

6. The surprise razor

This was such a clever move - play possum until the guy gets close enough to slash his face and steal his axe. I love that Lalo apparently keeps razors in his pocket for this purpose.

Actually, whenever we see Lalo fight, he's using his brains as much as his brawn.

7. Lalo decodes the human emotion of love He's a little confused why Kim's talking to him at first, but using his incredible skills at deduction, he’s able to figure out that if Kim is married to Jimmy, then that means she probably loves him, and therefore she would be worried about him. You could really see the wheels spinning as he puzzled this one out, but he got there! What a clever boy!

In The Still of the Night (in stiller Nacht) / Lalo Salamanca : Not Buying Nacho’s Story

I looked up the song playing in the open and at the end of Better Call Saul; it plays while Lalo is in Ms. Ziegler’s house looking for clues in the gifts from the men who didn’t attend her husband’s funeral.

It’s Brahm’s In Stiller Nacht, a German folk song / lied based on a poem. I find the poet’s story more telling than I found the song. Here’s what I found about the author of the original poem:

Parts that may be important:

. He came out from that terrible experience with grey hair -Gene? considering the defense attorney reference and that he has already represented Lalo and became un amigo del cartel)

He demanded defence lawyers for such serious charges and held that torture was useless because it would never lead to the truth. Consequently, those delations extracted under torture weren't valid - Nacho’s “confession,” Lalo already suspects Gus and will probably figure out that Nacho gave that confession under duress and it “would never lead to the truth.”

under torture, accusations spread like wildfire. depending on the torture methods, confessions were considered "free" or "under torture"; he also reported that the lack of confession was tantamount to irrefutable proof of culpability.

The Salamancas had torture tools prepared for Nacho if he refused to give them the information about who hired him to betray Lalo, hence Gus’s plan to have Victor kill him instead.

Before Nacho regained control of the situation in the desert by using the glass on Bolsa and holding the gun to his head, Nacho’s words / “confession” (the fake one Gus made him say) were under duress - he was going to be tortured if he didn’t speak.

When Nacho regained control, he spoke his truth, how he really felt about the Salamanca sacks of psychos and that he had been the one to put Hector in the wheelchair, nearly killing him, by switching his heart pills with sugar pills.

it was better to risk saving a guilty person than to condemn an innocent one -

This could possibly reference Saul’s decision to be a friend to the Cartel/ not rat Lalo out.

*Somehow, I think because Howard and Mike are both having Jimmy and Kim watched, this will lead to a crossfire situation where Jimmy eventually has a choice, either be a friend of the cartel for good / “risk saving a guilty person,” or allow Howard/ Howard’s career to get destroyed under Kim’s plan.

This episode had scenes between Jimmy and Kim that demonstrated that Jimmy no longer understood why he was doing what he was doing with Howard; he actually asked Kim why, out loud, and she didn’t say any real reason. Something is going to happen in Kim’s plan that makes it dangerous- likely involving an accidental crossover with the Mike/Gus/Lalo scenario.

So that’s my overly thought out theory / interpretation of what the German song means for Lalo, what he does and doesn’t believe about the attempt on his life, and what may happen next.

continuing with the mike ehrmantraut as jean valjean parallel, for sure werner ziegler was his fauchelevent And champmatieu all rolled into one. a very simple choice: throw your whole life away, never see your family, try to save this man, disappear forever both under risk of being caught and murdered. or... obey what’s expected from you. give him a kind death. turn away.

it’s Such a great turning point in mike’s descent! *chef’s kiss* you can see how he’s gotten this deep and how (he thinks) he has no choice but to go deeper. the Symbolism of gus meeting him in the excavated cave in the dark looking up at him!!!

the worst thing in mike’s tragedy is. gus got his eye on him from the first not just because of his outstanding competence. but because mike wouldn’t let go of hector. planned to kill him after all the need and danger had passed. if anything That’s the turning point.

there’s So Many Turning points for mike and all are structured like greek tragedy. at every turn his inherent character is what forces him to make worse choices and there’s really no room to turn around. hubris.

thinking about this tony dalton quote and how the most engaged we see lalo this whole season - the most turned-on, energetic, and focused - is when he's investigating something that doesn't smell right to him. if I have to think of character wants (e.g. , nacho's is to be respected, hector's is to be feared), lalo's is to be in control...wanting to be in the know, to have the most cards in hand, to know the truth. and -- speculation -- I think this will lead to his death. we see him chasing the werner ziegler lead and we see gus surveying the half-constructed hole in the ground, almost as if he knows this will be the place of the final battle. lalo can't give up a lead -- and this is going to kill him

During this time, Walter convinces Jesse to help Walt get revenge on Gus, and Jesse's information enables Walt to lure Gus into a fatal trap.
