🎃Hello, tumblr! I am very excited to announce Hanako HAUlloween! I've been kicking this idea around since the end of Tanabata Week, and life's been so busy that I thought I wasn't going to be able to make it happen, but as usual I am very lucky that I have the support of my friends! A HUMONGOUS thank you to @anubis-005, who created the image template for this announcement graphic and title text (I just added the dates and prompts haha). Please heap praise upon her and scream at her about how wonderful her Nene’s Inferno AU is.

From October 24th-31st, there will be prompts based on different AUs featured in JSHK official art (What do you mean; of course Nene's Inferno is official. Stop looking at me like that!). The prompts are still just suggestions, though, so if you'd just like to do something Halloweeny and tag it with #hanakohaulloween anyway, you're welcome to do so!

The prompt list, again, is as follows: Oct. 24: DAY 1- Ghost Hotel Oct. 25: DAY 2- Hanako of the Opera Oct 26: DAY 3- Phantom Thief Oct. 27: DAY 4- Idol AU Oct. 28: DAY 5- RPG AU Oct. 29: DAY 6- Teen Drama Oct. 30: DAY 7- Angels & Demons (or Nene's Inferno) Oct. 31: DAY 8- FREE DAY! HALLOWEEN

Here's a brief FAQ beneath the cut! I hope you enjoy the event, everybody, and feel free to send me questions if you’ve got them. I think we’re in for a frightfully good time~ 👻💖

Q: Is this event for HanaNene like the Tanabata one? A: Nope! HanaNene is absolutely allowed (and encouraged!), but this is for the JSHK fandom in general, so other pairings and even OCs are welcome!

Q: Can my entries be late? A: Absolutely! Just be sure to tag with #hanakohaulloween and the day's tag so I can find it and reblog it!

Q: What kind of content is allowed? A: Pretty much anything--art, fanfiction, edits, music... it's all good!

Q: I'm stuck on Free Day. Are there any more AUs I could do? A: There's always the Marching Band AU, the Mermaid AU, the Cards Royalty AU, Alice in Wonderland AU, Wizards AU... anything you'd like. Make one up, even!

Q: I can't really do AUs... can I just have them in costumes? A: Sure! The prompts are only suggestions, after all.

Q: Will this be on Twitter and Instagram like last time? A: I am planning on bringing the event to Instagram, but I'm rather hesitant to post JSHK events to Twitter anymore, honestly. I will do so if there is enough demand, but I find Twitter has become very inhospitable, so in the interest of protecting participants, I'm not planning on posting this to Twitter.

Q: There's another event going on at the same time as this, and I'm worried I won't be able to participate in both. What should I do? A: Please don't worry! This is all for fun, and the focus is on different aspects of the fandom, so there are plenty of options for participation. Maybe if you can't think of what to do for a day in one event, check out the other one and see if that one sparks an idea! Just have fun with it 💖

Day 8: Free Day (Canon Verse)

Yep, it was canon all along! Should line up with Chapter 83 as that’s the most recent! I skimped out on a lot of details as to lower my chances of Chapter 84 completely contradicting it, which will probably be a useless effort but it was an attempt.

I just thought eventually tying it into canon would be fun but I really should have sprinkled more hints in as early as the first ficlet. Which of course means that you absolutely SHOULDN’T read this one if you haven’t read the others first. Yep.

For the sake of simplicity, they’ve all been compiled onto Ao3!

Finally, Nene wakes up alone in her room. It’s still dark. All those nightmares, all those worlds weighed down on her and even if she shut her eyes, she wouldn’t be able to escape them.

Kou had just walked her home. He had been so nice, so gentle, so caring...and that guilt in his sad blue gaze was striking under the streetlights. But, Minamoto-senpai hasn’t looked the slightest bit guilty at all.

“From my point of view, we can’t allow that supernatural to do as he pleases anymore.”

What am I going to do?

Come to think of it, what had she been doing in those other worlds? How had they played out?

In that hotel, she sought to escape with someone, but she didn’t know what the sacrifices would be or even the circumstances that led them there.

At the opera house, she just wanted to sing and shine on the stage, but she hadn’t expected the lengths that others would go through to make that possible.

As a detective, she wanted to catch the notorious phantom thief as directed, but she lacked the greater perspective to know exactly what she was getting into.

At the concert, she had enjoyed the idols so thoughtlessly and fumbled her way through explaining what it meant to love.

In that fantasy world, she had been primed to be a hero, but even when she had been betrayed, she couldn’t fully come to grips with the fact that she needed to not only defeat the villains but destroy them.

That more normal world, one without supernatural beings, was nothing more than another pipe dream.

And the afterlife she dreamed of last...

I never even got a chance to talk to Aoi. Why she had turned out like that, if this was something she had kept to herself for so long and simply never told me... I never got a chance to even...ask...

And if she does save Aoi, there’s still the matter of her own death. There’s still the matter of Hanako.

Hanako-kun wants me to live. He doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt.

Aoi had been her best friend. Her closest friend. Someone she cared so dearly for, someone she never, ever wanted to hurt. Someone who she wanted to open up to and had hoped for the same in return.

“I was worried you’d stop liking me,” Aoi had softly confessed once.

“What were you really thinking, Aoi?” she wanted to ask. “I want to understand you. Please let me help you. We’re friends, aren’t we?”

That radiant, merciless angel had smiled down at her so cruelly.

“What are friends for?”

“Hanako-kun doesn’t tell me what he really thinks either... He just does what he wants and brushes it all aside,” she mumbled, soft and sullen. “I really...attract some awful types. What am I supposed to do...?”

The dark of night provided no answers, even as she sniffled. Even as she hiccupped between hitching breaths and tears trickling down her cheeks.

“I want to see them, but... When that happens... Uu...”

I just won’t know what to say.
