For today's Zooly "cattle" prompt I drew a pair of Highland cattle (Hielan coo!) Though the red coat is more common, they do come in black. Traditionally the black strains were smaller because they were raised on the Outer Hebrides islands, while the reds were larger because they had more nutritious food on the mainland. This trend of island animals being smaller happens across several species of wild animals as well. Both cows and bulls are naturally horned, and horn shapes may vary from individual to individual. The Highland is very good at thriving on poor forage, and its thick coat is excellent for helping it survive cold winters. Ink pen and Copic markers.

ACGAS concept: James takes Helen to Glasgow to visit his parents and in typical "James never gets a break" fashion he's called upon to take care of some highland cattle. Because think how excited Helen would be over one of those big fluffy things. (And yes, James absolutely should refer to them with the Scots "Hielan coo" instead of the English "highland cattle.")

I am physically incapable of calling hielan coos by their English name

like. I can try. but it’s not going to happen. it’s always gonna come out as hielan coos. that’s just what they are. it’s what they’re called.

So I was informed by a very helpful shop person! (I imagine it’s partly a function of being a tourist-heavy town, but man, I ran into so many helpful people who wanted to give me information and help me find places and tell me not to step on allegedly cursed initials.)
