Routine will take you further than willpower. Down to the most finite detail, Wendy had grown up learning that discipline was a strength, and preferred to keep her mind clear and spirit pure because of the weapon she possessed. The Ace of Spades was an heirloom, a blessing or a curse depending on the user, and Wendy could only hope to one day to make her father proud. This time...this time...a mantra every time the card was played, the sword secured in its sheathe. Wendy's skills with a sheathed blade were often times unrivaled, and Love and Peace's spirit wasn't needed. But there were times her alter-ego was called.

This time will be different.

This time she'd be the one in control.

The card weighed heavily against the fabric of her breast pocket, as though carrying the very soul of the sword and the lives it had taken, the blood that had spilled. Usually the burden disappeared the second she stepped into the High Card automobile company, Finn yelling in surprise from learning something new, Vijay there with a soft smile and her cup of tea ready to go. The air was different, quiet, and Wendy hesitantly gathered her hair into that signature ponytail, glasses adjusting. "You seem serious...is there a mission for me?" She asked Leo, just as the door opened.

"Actually, this mission is for both of you." Leo said with a thoughtful hum.

Wendy expected to turn and find Vijay, anxiety swelling in the pit of her stomach and heartbeat skipping when her gaze locked with the person she would be partnered with instead: Chris.

Tea and Chatter (Grimora Open Rp/Interaction)

The isle of the dead was always a lively place. Something one wouldn't have really expected given the residents that live there. But for those who resided there, they always found something to do during the day. For some it was haunting crypts, others it was playing cards, or having tea. But for the caretaker of the land; Grimora work is what always kept her busy.

As a Scrybe she always had new epitaphs to turn into cards, a new meeting to attend or appointments to keep. Yes she had her free time of course but she always liked to make of the most of the bright sun filled hours of the day before resting. There were a number of task she needed to get done throughout the week, but for today she decided to spend some time outside, and tend to cleaning up some of the graves that resided near her crypt.

Rain, dirt, and other natural elements always did a number on tombstones, and the flowers that adorned some of the graves needed to be rotated out for fresher ones. And of course there was always a new grave to dig for some creature. But today, she focused on the cleaning part. Busying herself with pulling weeds, wiping down tombstones and plaques, and changing flowers. Others have offered to do the work for her but she always preferred getting her hands dirty herself. And saw it as her responsibly to make sure every spirit under her care rested comfortably. And today was the perfect day to maintain that duty.

Though the sun was high in the sky the overcast of clouds and cool autumn breeze keeps her from overheating. Allowing her to toil without a care in the world save for the dirt that was caking itself onto her shoes, hands and skirt. "Alright that should do it!" The second item on that list was easy to remedy as she pulls a handkerchief from her dress pocket, using it to dry off her hands the moment she finishes rinsing them off in a bucket of soapy water she brought with her. But the moment she rises to her feet however, something halts her work. Far along the warned down walkway that expanded across her island was a person. She wasn't sure if they were lost, a friend, a foe, or just a visitor because of how far they were. But the that does little to keep her from smiling brightly and calling out to them. Waving to the visitor in a friendly manner as she greets them with a loud warm chuckle.

"Why Greetings! Pardon my appearance I wasn't expecting visitors today! What brings you hear to my little corner of the world dear?"

I've been doing some really fun cross-AU Persona RP on Dreamwidth with some friends, and I've got both the P4 era and P5 era versions of Akechi from The Crow Cries at Midnight there, and one thing that's been super interesting to explore that I kinda stumbled into is sorta... the consequences of putting someone who desperately craves to be needed in a position where he has to go out and make connections if he wants to be strong enough to be a half-decent Wild Card (and thus be able to help deal w/ the murder case in Inaba more efficiently). But it has me thinking about how P5, Akechi's basically had to reorient himself from being jaded and guarded and not trusting other people to actively having to seek out connections and spend time with people and let them in, but I think due to Akechi's desperation to be important, seen, and all that, this could quite easily result in him developing a sort of complex about it? Especially since his life starts to change when he's twelve, so he never even gets scooped up by Yaldabaoth or works for Shido. He has time to pivot, but then in P5 he has all these responsibilities. The case he's been tasked with, these new Persona users who clearly need his guidance and experience, a whole new cognitive plane, plus being a third year in high school and so many things could pile up because whereas canon Akechi is far more closed off and self-sufficient, this Akechi retains that drive to succeed and achieve his goals, but could very well overachieve and end up so fixated on this elaborate juggling act of obligations that he neglects his own needs at times. ...which is basically what's happened in the RP comm because as basically the only well-adjusted Akechi there, he ends up having to be the one who a) ends up caring for all the kids there because he has that experience from Nanako, b) having to be the one to put up with everyone's bullshit when they get at each other's throats and be the mature "adult" in the room, and I feel like that sorta vibe is absolutely where he's at a lot of the time with the Phantom Thieves, and it is very, very good that he shares the burden of leadership with Ren. Basically, by P5 in the P4 Akechi AU, Goro is probably gonna be a perpetual state of Done at some points, and the expectations imposed on Wild Cards may or may not have given him issues that therapy has maybe helped a little but also... it's Akechi. Healthier, happier Akechi, but still Akechi.

QSMP Safety Tools for Players

A lot of players on the QSMP have stated their frustration and discouragement with the recent purgatory event, and while there is a universal agreement to not witch hunt or pit communities against people. It doesn't invalidate their feelings when issues are overlooked.

This is by no means a call to action to harass a person.

But maybe this could be a healthy exercise in putting that energy we feel as their audience into something that could contribute in the overall health and success of the QSMP player community.

Who would think that rp-ing for 8 hours straight on the daily would be emotionally exhausting?

So please use this post to put up ideas for safety tools* or safety tools from other systems (please source them) that would benefit an SMP as oppose to the traditional environment of a table top RPG.

*Safety Tools are used in table top role playing games (like D&D) by the Game Master (GM) to protect players from themes that would make the game less fun for them. Its not a tool to censor or railroad the story, rather to keep the game fun for everyone. Whether a theme is uncomfortable or triggering, safety tools are in place to find out each players boundaries and help everyone respect them in game. For example X-card is a tool created by John Stavropoulos as an easy way for players to communicate with the GM if a scene is uncomfortable for them they would touch or place forth a card with an "x" on it, in which case the GM would change or skip over the scene no questions asked. This wouldn't work quite as well within an SMP due to the lack of GM to kind of lead the scene out, if players are to into their characters to stop. But that is the general gist of it. If you're interested in this topic feel free to google them as there are so many safety tools out there.

High-Viz Leather chest plate.

An orange leather chest plate that players can wear to signify that they are out of role play for whatever reason. Players with it on can still play and build, but are not interested in the rp angst of the moment, and are immune to PVP combat unless consented to. Basically a visual indication that would allow players to play and interact with others without the paranoia of threat due to the voice group making it hard for first contact to occur without death.

Warped Fungus Door.

A play on Kimi Hughes, Exit the scene. Players are given a warped fungus door that they can use to exit a scene by placing it and walking through it. They aren't oppose to the contents of the scene but are no longer comfortable in participating in it. There is no consequence or penalty for it, but a player cannot reenter the scene until it is done. So as not to have players use it as an advantage in game, such as PVP.

spoilers for the most recent bastard warrior episode ahead! (read at your own risk)

this new episode of the bastard warrior really cemented the fact that the bastard warrior is my favourite audio/asmr rp series *ever.* it could quite honestly be a shakespearean story with how tragic it is. that, combined with the character development makes for such a sad and beautiful story to witness and experience. but seeing how both albus and devlin actually feel for one another with no filter or joke in between was so refreshing and just eye-opening and amazing to see (or hear).

you have albus york -- someone given the worst cards imaginable and who has every single right to resent devlin and his half-siblings. but despite it all, we learn that he actually cares for, and loves every single one of them. he wants to see them succeed, and will give himself the short end of the stick if thats what needs to be done. this includes pushing aside his feelings for faithful, because he doesn't believe he deserves her love, and would only make her life worse with him in it. so, he asks the person he knows could give her a better life, making sure that he would if he chose to do so. he asks devlin, who he has constantly teased for having a mini crush on her, to take up that mantle to watch over her when he can't.

and then you have devlin york, who has been probably taken advantage of his entire life. he admitted in this episode that all he craves for his friends, and the company of people who actually care about him. he pays the people around him to stay in his company, and to do what he needs them to do. we've seen him develop a relationship to faithful throughout this series, and attempt to confess said feelings in a couple episodes. and this episode, he does. but he doesn't ask faithful to stay with him. he asks her to stay with albus, because he knows that the two of them share a special connection that he can't break. he asks albus, who he initially could not stand and had every insult to throw. he's grown so much, and learned looked past the misconceptions he's been told about albus by the person he holds in such high regard.

character development is always an amazing thing to witness. like it can be as little as growing past a fear, or learning to overcome a once strong and life-debilitating fear. in the case of these two brothers, they've both undergone these amazing journeys these past 11 episodes, and it's been so great to watch. devlin york -- the man who has such a high respect for his father, chose to look past the facts he's been fed by him (and society) regarding his bastard half-brother. albus york -- someone who has been beaten down by life, and could quite honestly be a villian and have every right to be so. but he isn't. he continues to move forward by the love and care he has for devlin and faithful. the series isn't done yet and i'm sure the trio is going to go through more growth, but everything we've seen thus far has been such a pleasure to watch and i can't wait for the rest of the series <333

You know what I miss?

(I'm gonna show my age here with this very specific and niche memory but bear with me. Or don't, whatever!)

Back when I was a kid, middle/high school ish, I frequented Gaia Online. I'm not even sure how to really describe that site (if you remember it, help me out here) but it was mainly an anime-esque forums where people could make different communities about a million different things, but it wasn't just forums. You had an anime avatar that followed you around the site, a currency you used to buy dress up items for your avatar, mini games and a a marketplace. Pretty sure there was some kind of stock market.

This was my online home for years.

I landed, somehow, on the Adoptables forums. Shops, technically, for people to "adopt" pets and then roleplay with them together. Some were original make believe worlds - one of the more popular I can remember was a world of wolf packs with their own lore and setting.

Specifically I remember being active on the Lion King RP forums called I think Shadows of Africa? The artists who ran them would sell colored lineart of lions in the style of the movie, with a little info card that displayed their name and the owner (you).

You couldn't roleplay with other people until you officially had a character through purchase, gift, or contest prize.

Each lion was unique and people gave them names from African languages (that was a rule). People formed entire prides and had special forums just for them, with rosters of who had what character, where you could "hang out" with others in your pride. Your lion would be able to age from cub to teen to adult after you had roleplayed a certain amount of time and applied for it with the artists. Your characters could find mates and breed and the artists would (for Gaia currency) remix the "DNA" of your two characters and you'd get a random number of cubs you could "give away" to friends or even hold contests for others who wanted to play.

I was just thinking about these communities and how much I loved everyone there. How much work these artists put into these communities, often without any real compensation except for pretend money. How elaborate they were. Giant games of pretend with strangers online. I did SO much writing on those RP forums, I actually feel in retrospect like it was a safe place to cut my teeth on writing and it was literally from the point of view from an OC Lion King character.

And there were so many shops like this.

I'm sure there was toxicity in some aspects of these communities, but I don't remember it, at least not to the level of toxicity the Internet gets to now. Maybe it's my rose colored glasses.

But every Christmas, these Adoptables shops would open up for people to Secret Santa gifts to your friends: a randomly colored gift, the .jpg or whatever sent to your inbox, that you could post in your profile or your journal. And on Christmas day, the artists would update all those images, and the wrapped gift would be replaced by a unique pet, randomly created for you by whatever colorists were working for the shop.

Like YES okay I understand how very childish it sounds now. Maybe even cringe.

But I've never found another sort of community like it. (Maybe discord, idk, I was too old and busy to get into discord when it came out.) So many artists doing so much work, just for others to play with pretend pets with their online friends and write silly stories about them together. These were people making dozens, hundreds of unique designs by hand, as far as I'm aware. Their workload had to be stressful. They were probably doing this in between studying or working real jobs.

But to this day, every Christmas, I think about those Secret Santa gifts. And every year I miss that excitement of logging in first thing to see all your gifts 'magically' hatch into adorable little creatures that were unique and yours.

This post doesn't have a point except I'm in my mid-30s and I still miss my online friends that I used to play pretend lions with in middle school. And nothing else has quite matched the very specific excitement of those secret Santa gifts becoming 'real' on Christmas.

And I'm so, so thankful to all the people - likely college students and adults - who did all this work just for fun. And I wanted to share this memory of some old communities that I still think back on fondly. I hope they're doing well in life, wherever they are.

Ended up becoming focus on business like the rest of her brothers, as well as dying her hair black.
