I'm just gonna say it: David Byrne and Fatboy Slim have a lot to answer for. Two white guys making a fun quirky disco Evita off the backs of thousands of brown people killed and tortured by a brutal dictatorial regime is not a good look.

Basing your fun quirky disco Evita around whitewashing a dictator's spoiled opportunistic wife with delusions of grandeur (her "keeping up with the Joneses" schtick murdered an entire construction crew, look up the Manila Film Center) by giving her a sympathetic Cinderella backstory is not a good look.

Adapting said fun quirky disco Evita to Broadway just as said dictator's power-hungry family had successfully brainwashed and gaslit the very same people they oppressed decades later is 😬😬😬

Anyways I've known about them since debut? I loved Bloom Bloom Pow with my whole heart when it came out and tried to fall for them then- It didn't work. The next time was when The Stealer (TS) came out~ I had watched them perform for Road to Kingdom- because ptg was on the show too- But I really loved TS cb- sm so that I bought the album about 6 mos later with my favorite members as inclusions at the time (Eric, Kevin and Hyunjae). But nothing came about of it even after watching the weekly idol episodes... Then came Whisper era and I ended up biasing Changmin (Q) and loving that song but again nothing came out of it.

(A little backstory is that Changkyun (I.M) got me into Dominic Fike's music-) Thus, when tiktok showed me Juyeon, Changmin, and Sunwoo dancing to Babydoll earlier this year as a dance cover: I fell. And then I finally checked out Watch It~ But Hui had his solo and it distracted me completely from falling further. Then I had gotten sick and decided 'well, what if I watch their content?' And I did... I watched their hello82 interview and their reaction to fanart of them, and lastly their mafia dance. And I loved each sm that I decided to check out more.

It was the first time I had watched their content and wanted to see more. And now, I watch their content almost daily. It's kind of like they revived the joy of kpop for me? My (old) ult of ults has been on hiatus due to the military so it's been stagnant content lately for me. But then they came in like a breath of fresh air- and I simply can't get enough. This month will be 3 mos and I honestly hope I'll follow them for a long time. (I think they're my new ult of ults tbh)

And lastly now here I am as a Younghoon and Juyeon bias (with bias wrecker: Changmin... he's doing everything to be bias again). And with them having a comeback I loved with my whole heart this past month, I think it really solidified them with me. Honestly, I'm so happy with them.

#For context: I was going to make a post complaining about how lesbians don't have enough good musical theater duets #(like we have the love songs from 'The Color Purple' which're alright but doesn't match the passion or desperation present in the book imo #'Changing My Major' which is a great love song but doesn't hit that sweet duet spot #'Dance With You' and the last verse of 'You Happened' from The Prom are sweet but the girls barely get to actually sing about each other #Honestly 'Oh Well' from Love In Hate Nation comes closest to what I want but it ends on a bittersweet note unless you see the show live #If only Elphaba and Glinda were canon... #But anyway. I can't believe that there's an adaptation of The Color Purple coming in the year of our lord 2023 and this is #how they're talking about Shug Avery. Her *role model*. Lock up your *husbands*. Ick. Pfaff. #I mean they're going to be gay. You can't get around that. But Shug is the love of her life. Can we please talk about that in the character #Don't mind me I'm just over here overreacting #From what I've read one of the biggest adaptational changes in the musical is her reaction to Shug's affair. #Like in the book Shug is the one light in her life. I sobbed myself to sleep over her nosedive in self-worth when they took a break #In the musical she's just...fine with it? I get why that's more satisfying emotionally but I still think it undermines their relationship #I don't get the curse thing either. I'm a little fuzzier on this part but in the book doesn't she just leave him and she's able to thrive? #Then when he asks her to get back together she's able to just know that the worst with Shug or alone is better than the best with him? #This book man. I hate that there isn't an adaptation as devoted to the Celie/Shug relationship as the book is. #Hate that the only recommendation I've seen calling it a sapphic book was from someone who thought that Celie's letters were to her lover #I remember watching this steamy adaptation of a Shakespeare play in soph Eng and seething because they only kiss once in the 1985 movie #Ig I can't expect too much from 1985 but...it was in the book! It was one of the most important parts! They don't even live together in it! #This was all to say I wast a lesbian 'Green Green Dress' a lesbian 'Home' a lesbian 'Natasha & Anatole' a lesbian Legally Blonde finale #The list goes on #I'm sure The Color Purple (2023) will be a good adaptation and movie. I will not pop blood vessels while watching it. #Maybe I should just avoid press releases and the movie will surprise me in a good way.

when an underclassman in the college show you’re in takes a moment to tell you that you’re fantastic on stage and that he hopes you’ll do more acting stuff at the college <3 and you have to tell him that you’re a senior </3

#at least i wasn’t one of the people in my class year who came to college primarily for theater only for the pandemic to happen #plus a couple of other extenuating circumstances #but nevermind that. i made this post to commemorate the warm fuzzy feeling the compliment gave me :) #our cast as a whole is wonderful and committed and fun and super talented #i’m really really thankful that i got to do this with them #honestly? i’d choose this over the musical we were supposed to get to do this year in a heartbeat #none of the cast have tumblr as far as i know but i’ll say it anyway: love y’all <3 #(when you’re not having loud conversations in the background while our director is trying to give people notes. cease /lh)

Finally watching Tick Tick Boom and suddenly crying because I somehow kind of forgot that Jonathan Larson died right before the first actual performance of Rent

#so weird that his music all has this theme if running out of time #of* #and life being too short and people dying young #and then he did die young from unexpected unpredictable causes??? wth? #I was really into rent in high school #i was introduced to it by a close friend and it was pet of that friend group #*part not pet #you know? we were a theater kid friend group and I think about #old friends a lot #I think people you’re ambitiously creative together with at a young age is like. a really unique special bond honestly. #also my trans niece/nephew/nibling wanted to watch this movie with me a few months ago and we never got around to it but #now I’m thinking of their perspective of this movie too and idk #feeling some love and sorrow you know #some nostalgia some worry. and just. lots of love you know? #I feel a special bond with them too. and it’s always been there because me and my sister/their mom have always has this intense bond #I’ve always worried for these kids my nieces/etc for their happiness. I’ve always worried about when they’d start to feel anxiety/depression #experience trauma etc. I remember clearly one day thinking this watching them as toddlers watching some kids tv program #fwoo. #now they’ve seen their mother disabled by long covid. had their lives disrupted. been homeschooled for two years. and so much else I’m sure. #also yeah drinking for the first time in several days lol #it’s Friday friday #I learned to be cynical about Rent but really why??? #yeah it’s got flaws but?? #he was one year older than me? lol #fwoo it hits harder than when I was 15 tbh
