It’s only 79 chapters and it’s fully translated. The genre is historical so there’s no supernatural elements. The plot is simple and straightforward. But the main couple (yanfu) is…. REALLY REALLY GOOD!

SYNOPSIS

The notorious imperial court lackey and the meritorious military general were well-known for their mutual dislike, a pair of arch-enemies set in stone. Who could have foreseen the unexpected change in the winds of heaven: the general injured on the battlefield, both legs disabled, and even forced by the emperor to marry his nemesis.   With one marriage edict, two people with mutual hostility are forced to marry and live under the same roof. friends to enemies to arranged marriage to lovers. TENDER HUSBANDS WHO SPOIL EACH OTHER ROTTEN. So much fluff it will make you crazy. Coupled with a lot of fun banter. And just the right amount of angst and pining. Power couple and canon vers couple. What more could you possibly ask for?

cant believe i finished golden stage and did not run my mouth here ://

ne wayz, an absolute 13/10 novel

a solid plot, there were some plot points introduced that i felt were underused. but that can be overlooked.

the conclusion of the story, satisfying as it is, felt somewhat unclear. like it was all solved by the "protagonists halo" lol, a bit of overshadowing wouldve made it all come together

for the main character, god i love fu shen. a brilliant general forced to grow up too soon, and plotted against by those he is working for, he is at essence, unassuming and pure because he was sent on the battlefield before he could experience life. Hes honestly one of my favourite reads, he was a delight

the main lead, yan xiaohan, my absolute baby. ruthless, vicious, sensitive, i would trust him with my life any day.

the amount of love and care that they have for each other, looking out for each other all the time. it'll make your heart m e l t. one of the things i liked so much was them falling for while being suspicious of each other, thats how deep the feelings ran and they just couldnt help

(no shade to fu shen, i would also fall if someone cared for me like that)

theres none of that annoying top x bottom dynamics. theyre both strong characters in positions of authority, and they switch.

its giving me a lot of changgu, like a LOT. scheming minister x brave general. a lot of the plot is similar to spl in a way, but it still holds its own.

15/10 would recommend, it definitely is worth the hype for me.

rereading golden stage and thinking about Them

i’m up to the section where fu shen is thinking about how nice yan xiaohan treats him and how he’s not use to that. which was odd to me at first because he’s a rich young master, right? surely people would have been falling over themselves to keep him happy when he was younger. but maybe the difference is that those people HAD to take care of him. like they didn’t have a choice, it was their job. so the fact than yan xiaohan is choosing to take care of him and choosing spend time with him and choosing watch over him as he sleeps.... choosing to love someone on purpose.............. i really can’t deal with this.

Golden Stage / 黄金台 art from the audio drama(s)

I’ve been reading it p slowly bc I got distracted by a NIF rewatch and playing POE2 so I’m only 40 chapters in, but it’s very nice and underrated. The leads (a young general who is forced to retire and a careerist official leading one of the imperial guards) are great and their chemistry is *chef’s kiss*. There’s political intrigue and a looot of flirting in front of everyone salad.

It’s the first recommendation on novelupdates from Sha Po Lang and they do have some things in common but GS is a lot more relationship focused and so far not that plot heavy, so it’s an easier read

The English translation is almost finished so it’s a good time to look it up!
