I just feel like the story arcs he's been getting lately have been stuff that's come out of nowhere, like they're not sure what to do with him. I'm just not completely sold on this sperm donor arc and I remember reading some stuff about where it goes that has me very dubious

like not to be annoying but i'm really hoping that the Scoops Troop and their trauma is addressed in some way in s5 because i think the four of them all deserve like a five day nap and some blankets

i'm currently thinking about Scoops Troop-only movie nights and sleepovers, days spent with only the four of them where they're training or practicing with new weapons, ESPECIALLY in the days following everything that happens with Vecna.

Lucas is at Max's bedside 24/7, understandably so, but Erica does not want to be without a big brother, as much as she refuses to admit it, so she all but demands that her parents let her stay at Steve's, because his house definitely becomes the hub for Party Activity when everyone returns, miraculously untouched by earthquakes and open gates.

but in those few days post-Vecna, when everyone's still scrambling, the Scoops Troop stays nestled away in Steve's house, blankets and pillows piled in front of the couch as a mindless animated movie plays on the television.

Dustin's finally cried himself to sleep for the second time, head tucked beneath Steve's as he clings to his brother in all but blood with a grip that rivals the demobats, the memories of Eddie's lifeless body replaced only by the memories of stumbling into the Russian lab and seeing his best friend half-dead, seeing the life leaving the Russian doctor's eyes as Dustin did what he had to do to save Steve.

Erica's wrapped up in a blanket, held close by Robin. Erica, who was just beginning to get over the claustrophobia that had haunted her since crawling through the air ducts at Starcourt, now only made much, much worse by being tackled to the ground in the dark by a boy twice her size who threatened her life, just because she wanted to protect her brother.

Robin, who's running a gentle hand over Erica's back as she hums softly along to the movie, cheek pressed into Steve's hand, once again kept awake and haunted by the sounds of her platonic soulmate's screams, the sight of him limp and bleeding, looking half-alive, and being able to do nothing but beg him to stay alive.

And Steve's got one arm around Dustin, and his other is holding Robin tightly. He's unable to sleep, kept awake by the sounds of his kids sniffling and quietly crying, kept awake by the feeling of his airway being cut off, remembering the oxygen deprivation feeling a little too close to the Russian drugs, trying to keep himself as

Steve, who's already lost one of his kids, one of his little sisters, and who will die before he lets anything happen to the rest of his kids, who keeps his nail bat and Eddie's shield next to their cuddle pile just in case, who answers the door already armed to the teeth, because he'll be damned if someone hurts his family.

Robin, who took Eddie's spear and modifies it to be more comfortable, who is so determined to protect whatever innocence these kids have left has Steve show her how to stand when fighting with it so she won't trip over herself.

Dustin, who knows how it feels to take a life, and as much as he doesn't want to kill anymore, knows that those creatures are still out there, and he knows how to make a homemade blowtorch with hairspray and a lighter, and who starts keeping those supplies in his bag.

Erica, who's still a child, who Steve and Robin are loathe to give a weapon to, even though they know she needs one, who takes Lucas' old slingshot, and starts practicing every day, because her aim needs to be perfect if she wants to protect those who are protecting her.

this little found family within a found family, bonded by trauma that none of the other members of the Party have experienced.

Okay okay I will post a little thought/theory I have for s5, even though I haven't actively partecipated in a fandom in years and i just read and like all the amazing theories, but I want to just get this off my chest:

I have a strong enough feeling vecna may possess will again

I read many talk about him being "vecna'd", which is not the same thing and judging from his and will's connection, i don't feel he would need to consume him like that, but rather it seems that ever since he was young vecna selected will as a potential host/vessel for himself, based on whatever he saw in will that at this point we don't know what it is exactly

Maybe will does indeed have untapped power (and in this theory I'm going to stick to this premise, as the luke/leia parallel between el and him makes it enough likely for me), so vecna, having lost his purely human form, may have thought he would need a human vessel in the human world so that he could also operate from there. This plan didn't end up well in the past (s2)...

But now, since he got injured, he is hurt and weak, he may need will again

Let's say the season starts with everybody already determined to put an end to him in this weakened state and they all - full group together finally! - gear up to do it...

And in a Moment, something something is happening, maybe el is fighting the monsters protecting vecna and we see the shadow of the mind flayer reaching her AND at that point will steps in front of her as the sacrificial boy of my heart that he is (and vecna knew he would do that...) so there we have the shadow entering him again like in s2 (but probably worse, and anyway the possible scenarios here are many ofc) and our dear old 001/henry takes hold of will's body, grinning from ear to ear, maybe lifting el up from the ground, revealing that will has this powers and he now knows how to use them for him, so he taunts all our group, like how are you gonna stop me now without killing the precious william... and as everybody is paralized in shock he manages to flee

Cue the time skip? As they need to figure out how to fight and defeat this powered up vecna using will's body without killing will (ofc they know they need to kill his actual body, but well now he is doubly protected by an enemy they don't want to harm, vecna in will)

AND i hope in the meantime we still see the actual will, maybe trapped in his own mind or vecna's, bonus point if he finds max in there because i need them to Bond and fight vecna from the Inside

So yeah, i feel like this could bring full circle a lot of themes and elements from the 1st season, as they said they would do.

And do I even need to mention all the potential Byler Angst this could spur as mike is put back in his I Need to Save My Will mood (and el has broken up with him for all the reasons we know - she realized his feelings are not genuine and that she is actually more herself without him and needs to channel what max taught her and become her own person without unhealthy attachments that keep her dependant and small - so mike has no more channel/distraction for his True Feelings)

Also *ahem* judging how Henry treated his own mother, i wonder if he may try to kill Joyce while she tries to reach will through a motherly speech of love, and vecna almost succeeds but then will manages to get control back to save his mother and he promises he will come back, he found max and they are both trying to figure out vecnas weakness (i would ugly cry at a scene like this, with will cradling his injured mother and then leaving her with this promise before vecna gets control back)

This happens earlier on, AND THEN we have later on towards the climax a similar scene but with MIKE and oh boy, the potential throw backs to the shed scene, the fact that in this time apart mike has figured out the truth about the painting and will's feelings and has had time to fully comprehend his, so it's a struggle of vecna wanting to kill him knowing that he has the potential to wake up will more than anybody, and indeed a (proper, heartwrenching) love confession from mike in that Moment is what Does it, and combined with whatever else the others are doing to defeat vecna, the Power of True Love (the duffers love that shit they told me) saves the day and the upside down becomes a beautiful meadow of green grass and blue and yellow flowers (lmao jokees but also has anyone seen she-ra?? Catra chipped by lord prime and adora trying to get to her > "I don't matter!" "You matter to ME!" Is so will and mike Plus their ending kiss saving the universe *ahem* has been a big inspiration for all this, plus to everyone complaining that a season is not enough time to develop a byler endgame, catradora also became esplicitely romantic in the last season (s5 look at that) after being frenemies for 4 seasons and I can just see something similar being done with them)

Anyway if anyone is still here, to sum it up a possessed will would allow a lot of plot points for different characters come to fruition, joyce, johnathan, el and mike especially - like i feel this scenario/theory could be developed to infinity) and I personally would love to see noah playing vecna, imagine the juciness for such an amazing young actor of a role like that after being sidelined for two seasons

and it would really explain all the parallels between henry and will and why henry chose him at the start, because he saw himself in will and knew he would make a good vessel (plus he could have a style change as henry makes him look more how he used to be as human, lol imagine mike seeing that) (plus plus i would cry and love it at the same time)

and the super byler potential is real for me, i See it. I know many would want them to become canon before the ending, but judging by the kind of storytelling the duffers go for, i am inclined to believe they may go for a climatic Moment for them,

still, hopefully the development throughout the season on both will and mikes side of the fight (i would literally love the inside/outside struggles that converge at the same point, poeticness of this scenario) is good and satisfying enough (coming from ME though that i had a pretty good grasp of s4 as it was airing, i knew the build up WAS going towards a mike confession to el which would be what he really believed he felt in his own warped understanding of his true feelings, which allows for an arc of actually understanding it in s5, so I did feel satisfied by what they showed in the sense that i see this as an ensamble show of fighting monsters, where the emotional development is carried on through the moments in between, so no Big fanfiction style inner stream of consciousness of how every character is understanding and feeling the situations)

So really, tying the supernatural and love drama together allow for more actual focus

Anyway! This was longer than i thought. I am very very curious to see if I get anything right at all, would be definitely fun to see it

I NEED TO KNOW IF DAZAI DIES!" note, i had no idea who dazai was, i just liked his face. so i clicked on a few posts. my takeaways then: 1) at the time i thought chuuya and dazai WERE the agency and was like, "wait, chuuya is a bad guy?" 2) i saw atsushi and kunikida and  i was like "wait, there's protags in this show other than dazai and chuuya?!" 3) people having a major meltdown 4) people saying "there's no way they're dead" and 5) and i remember this comment very clearly, it said "aren't they immortal at this point?" and clueless me thought, "they're actually immortal? what are the stakes then?" to be clear, i went into the anime thinking they're immortal or would become immortal at some point. so. yes. i knew about this and i also knew they survive. but nothing more, no context. just the collective relief that followed. only, i actually remember seeing pics of atsushi and kukinida dead, which... it never happened, why do i have this memory? i probably mixed it all together at some point.

Omg the nightwing red hood fight already got me so stressed lol. It looks great but ahh angst! But I think Jason is like 19ish in most versions when he comes back? Though tbh I forgot what age Jason is in this , I’ll have to see when i rewatch it soon. Curran, the actor, is actually 23, he just looks super young/short. He got pretty buff though. But yeah, that is an unfortunate thing wi the them rushing it already but also, I’d rather have it like this than if they were gonna spread it out through the seasons then it gets cancelled or something (poor Gotham s5, RIP). I think he was the PERFECT robin jason Todd though. Like I love his acting and portrayal of Jason(“Titans are back bitches!” classic Jason), he just is young looking and short. Gosh I still wanna know if they are going with the Lazarus pit for Jason or not! But like that also begs the question of whether they are doing a time skip cause normally Jason is dead for like 2-3ish years, but it doesn’t look like it from the trailer.

And yes, I’ve been looking forwards to Tim!!! While the trailer didn’t show it, the actor was on set a lot over these last couple of months (I’ve been keeping up with their instagrams xD) and seemed super close with the cast! I can’t believe the first look we got if Tim was him nearly crying, though that look already won me over, I love him and he is my son now. But RIGHT! Omg I squealed at the scarecrow part omg. Dr freaking Crane is a big reason I spiraled down this entire fandom tbh. Like literally a year ago I got obsessed with him for some reason and that led into the Bat hole where I am currently WAY deeper than I ever would have thought 😂 and while I’m not hyper fixated on him anymore, I still love him so much and is my 2nd fav rogue, and it mainly started with Jonathan 🥺 we barely even see his face and I am already in love with the casting, the voice is perfect. And I LOVE when villains have to help the heroes, that is like one of my fav tropes ever omg, I was really hoping they were gonna do that to him. I hope he is in it for more than one episode tho. And oh lordy, like those poor Titans need even more trauma in their lives and now fear gas is in the equation. Oh no, I bet poor Gar is gonna get hit cause they just love to torture that poor boy. And tbh I hope the fearscapes(perfect word for it) will be better than most of the Gotham ones, those seemed a tad cheesy tbh

Deckerstar (friendship or OTP, I'm feeling angst) + “She’s at the hospital. I—I don’t know what happened.”

“She’s at the hospital. I—I don’t know what happened.” Deckerstar - Established (alternate S5 where Lucifer got to come back without Michael ever being involved)

 So...this one got away from me. And honestly I have at least double this amount in my head for a continuation on this. But if I wait until I have time to write all of it then it’s more of a short story than a prompt fill, so I finally decided to cut it here.

First time writing these characters, so here’s hoping I didn’t butcher them.

               They are at the precinct, Ella updating them with what she’s found on their most recent case. Chloe stepped out for a call, and conversation slips to local events while they wait for her to return.

               “I’m just saying,” Ella points at him with a thin piece of metal. “I’ve heard you perform, you’d sell out a concert.”

               “I am not disagreeing, Miss Lopez.” Lucifer shrugs, “but Lux stays quite full as it is.”

               “That’s not –” She cuts off as the door opens, “Chloe, tell Lucifer…” She frowns, voice suddenly concerned, “Chloe?”

               Lucifer turns to face his partner, a fear he hasn’t seen in their eyes since…”Trixie?”

               She nods, “The school just called. She’s at the hospital,” he voice cracks, “I don’t know what happened. All they’ll say is she fell and –”

               “Detective,” she takes a shuddering breath as he takes her hand. “That’s it.” He turns to Ella, “Miss Lopes, would you be so kind as to inform the Captain that Detective Decker has had a family emergency?”

               “Totally!” She comes around the table, pulling the detective into a tight hug. Ash she pulls away she looks up at him, “keep me posted.”

               He nods, “of course.” He follows as Chloe grabs her bag, waiting to take her arm until they are outside.

               “What are you doing?” Chloe glares as he leads her to the side of the precinct. “Lucifer, this isn’t the time for your theatrics.”

               “On the contrary, it seems like exactly the time.” He opens his wings, holding an arm out. “Even you can’t drive faster than an Angel flies.” He tilts his head, “unless you would rather deal with lunch hour traffic?”

               “No,” She allows him to tuck her into his side, arms around his neck as he grabs her by the waist. Her only warning is his grip tightening, and then they are moving. It’s all so fast she hardly has time to register, his hands steadying her as he lands in an ally.

               “Easy, Chloe.” Her hand goes to her head, which is spinning. “Unfortunately you humans don’t handle flight as well as we do.”

               “No kidding.” After another minute the spinning has stopped, she’s mildly nauseated but ignores it.

               “You go ahead,” he motions toward the hospital. Before she can protest he waves a hand dismissively, “I’m just going back for the car. You can hardly tell the Captain that the devil flew you to the hospital when if he asks why our cars were still parked.”

               She nods, “Lucifer!” she grabs his wrist, his wings dropping as he looks at her. “Thank you.”

               He softens, “you needn’t thank me, not for this.” He motions toward the building once more, “now go, I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

               Once back to his car he breaks speed limits and a few traffic laws to get back to the hospital. Once he’s parked he makes his way to the front desk. “Trixie Decker,” he states before the young receptionist has time to speak.

               “I’m sorry, but I don’t have a Trixie in my system.” She replies with a frown.

               “Ah, my apologies dear. Try Beatrice Decker,”

               Another moment of typing and she nods to herself, “are you the father?”

               “No,” he shakes his head. “But she is….family.” There’s a sentence he’d never expected to say. The woman nods again, giving him the room number and brief directions.

               When Lucifer arrives Chloe is sitting next to the bed; Trixie is unconscious, a bandaged wrapped around her head. There’s a cold fury settling in his chest, but for now he buries the need to punish someone in favor of comforting his partner.

               Chloe looks up when he comes into the room, rising to close the distance between them. The fear has shifted into concern, a frown etched on her lips. “They think it’s a mild concussion.” She turns back to face the bed, arms crossing over her chest. “All the school rep said she fell.”

               “Was no one watching them? Didn’t anyone see what happened?” He asks, looking from Chloe to the child then back.

               “They don’t want to tell me anything other than they are ‘still gathering information.’” He assumes her tone is a direct mockery of the representative she’d spoken with. “Doctor said once she wakes up and they can run a few tests they’ll have a better idea of the extent of the damage…” her voice wavers, trailing off before she take a shuddering breath.

               “Hey,” he gently tugs at her wrist, Chloe instantly pushing into his chest as his arms wrap around her. “She’s a strong little creature…like her mother.” He rests his chin on the top of her head, “I suspect Trixie will be up and about in no time.”

               He waits until she begins to pull away to release her, reaching up to push loose hair from her face. She nods, giving him a weak smile. She reaches down, grabbing her phone as she takes another step away from him. “I should try and reach Dan again,” she runs a hand through her hair. “He’s camping and the school wasn’t able to reach him.”

               “If it’s all right with you, I’m going to go find where they sell caffeinated beverages.” He tilts his head, “Would you like anything?”

               “Actually, a coffee sounds amazing.” She smiles at him, and with a dip of his head he’s taken to the halls once more. It doesn’t take long for him to procure the coffees and a pastry. He stops in one of the waiting rooms, pulling out his own phone.

               He listens to it ring before finally there’s a female voice on the other side. “Hello?”

               “Doctor,” he greets. “I need your advice?”

               “Oh, um sure. What’s going on?” Linda asks, Charlie cooing in the background.

               “The Detec- Chloe’s daughter is in the hospital,” he’s suddenly cut off.

               “Oh my God Lucifier, what happened?” Linda’s voice has pitched and he sighs.

               “She apparently fell at school, they believe it’s a concussion.” He replies adding before she can cut him off once more. “I need to know how to help Chloe. All of my experience thus far has been her in the hospital, not someone she cares about.”

               Linda’s voice softens, “Lucifer, you’re already doing it. The best thing you can do for Chloe right now is be there to support her.” He hears Charlie begin to cry in the background, “look Lucifer, I have to go. But if there is anything you need just let us know.”

               “Of course. Thank you, Doctor.” He ends the call and after pocketing his phone grabs the drinks and pastry once more. It wasn’t the answer he had hoped for, but at least looking out for his partner was something he knew he could do.

               When he makes it back to the room Chloe is in the bedside chair once more, some of tension leaving her shoulders when she sees him. “I thought you might be hungry,” he offers the iced muffin alongside her coffee.

               She accepts them gratefully, motioning to the seat beside her. “Dan is on his way, but it will be a few hours before he can get here.”  

               “Well, until dear Daniel can arrive…I’m not going anywhere.” He reaches out to rest his hand on her leg. “I’m here as long as you need me.”

               “Damn it, Lucifer.” Chloe’s voice wavers, and he watches as she rubs her eyes with the back of her hand. Before he can voice concern she continues, “you’re going to make me cry…”

               “I’m…sorry?” He’s not sure exactly how to proceed, thankfully she doesn’t give him time to question himself.

               “No,” she sets the coffee down so she can grab his hands with hers. “I just…you’re…” she takes a slow breath. “It means a lot, that you’ll stay.” Her gaze drops to their hands, “There are so many questions, and I’m terrified…but you.” She looks up to give him a small smile. “You’re like an anchor, keeping me steady.” She leans, resting her head on his shoulder. “Thank you.”

               “As I said before, you needn’t thank me, love.” He runs his thumb over her knuckles. “I’ve no intention of leaving you to handle things alone, not anymore.” He presses a ghost of a kiss to her crown, “besides, the little gremlin has grown on me.”

It pulls a laugh from her, and for now that is enough.

5x12 The Diamond of the Day pt 1

Final two episodes! Big finale! Why am I making myself cry in the middle of the afternoon! Both eps in this post.

I do love that they made Arthur a sore loser

Enter treacherous white woman #2. Srsly it was lazy writing when they did it for Mordred, it's worse now with Gwaine.

I do love the actual Round Table war room discussion but a) why isn't Merlin seated at the round table and b) why does Leon have so much goddamn faith in Camelot's walls? Like??? You literally said the same thing last year and yet Camelot *did* fall when Agravaine brought an army through the tunnels!

Poor Aithusa. Kid's had a rough life.

I do love Arthur responding to Merlin presenting him with all his supplies ready - which he prepared without his magic mind you - with suspicion 😂

But then he calls Merlin a coward and it's sad

Katie has such a great voice. That entire thing in the cave from her taunting to her laughter to the spell, it just just beautifully played.

Whole ass battle to prepare for and Arthur is just walking around moping cuz Merlin isn't there

So, Merlin's father-vision telling him he's magic itself and he just needs to believe in himself to get his magic going again, does this mean he *didn't* need to go to the cave to get it back? Cuz it seems like he needed to recharge in the cave itself, his injuries were healed when he woke up. That seems like magic cave stuff to me.

Also that "always have been and always will be" - I'm taking to mean 'always have been' in the sense that since he's 'magic itself' even before he was born, his magic existed in other, intangible forms, like we are all stardust etc. But now that he is, he will always be, aka he will not die.

Arthur waking up with his wife in his arms and Merlin's name on his lips, jumping out of bed to act on dream-info.

Balinor telling Merlin to trust in what will be.... like bitch that is literally not how this ends.

5x13 The Diamond of the day pt 2

You know that gif of the cat knocking everything off the table? That's literally Merlin shooting lightning at everyone from his perch on the ridge.

I have a lot of snarky things to say about Merlin coming out of the cave in full Dragoon gear and riding a horse instead of teleporting like the other witches but I'ma keep that to myself.

Mordred is a bitch and Aithusa has terrible aim. At least Aithusa's loyalty to Morgana makes sense.

Arthur said oh shit I'm magic - oh wait no it's that old man again

He also straight up "No! Bad dragon!"-ed Aithusa

Y'know, for all I've watched this episode and screamed about Arthur's death, I don't think I've ever focused on the exact moment he gets stabbed before.

Mordred catches him from behind and he meets it, no fault there. But as soon as he realizes his assailant is the knight who turned on him and joined Morgana, what does he do? HE LOWERS HIS FUCKING SWORD

He leaves himself wide fucking open and vulnerable and Mordred seizes the opportunity. I understand wanting the moment of recognition for Arthur, but on what planet is a trained warrior going to drop his sword mid-attack because he recognizes his attacker as a dude who only just recently decided to forsake him? It's soooooo dumb

There was a whole sequence a few episodes back where Mordred and Arthur are sparring, the point of it was to show that Mordred has become a skilled swordsman. So what exactly was the point in having Mordred run Arthur through as soon as Arthur idiotically lets his guard down? This should've been a meticulously choreographed sword fight, with Mordred getting the upper hand and sticking Arthur properly. Not this nonsense. Look at Arthur's FACE! Oh, Mordred... 👉👈 do you maybe wanna be friends again- STAB ... guess not

Uther's been rolling in his grave but he's taking an extra tumble watching Arthur forget all his skills and training in that moment.

I do appreciate Arthur getting Mordred back though. Like that moment of merciless anger followed by the hurt and regret playing on Arthur's face, warring with surety and responsibility. It was good.

I've rewatched the big confession scene about 16 times just now.

I don't quite understand why Merlin took Arthur to the woods to begin with. Instead of bringing him to the med tent in the battlefield or back to Camelot. What was the reason?

Merlin saying it feels strange (to use magic freely in front of Arthur) and him just going 'yeah' completely deadpan makes me laugh every time.

I really feel like Arthur's head should be elevated at a further incline if he's going to be fed.

Gaius refusing to outright expose Merlin as the sorcerer but nonetheless letting Gwen figure it out on her own warms my heart.

My God Arthur is sitting there dying, feeling betrayed about his best friend 'lying' to him, and still he can't stop himself from looking at Merlin's mouth.

Hey um random but why does Gwaine even know where Merlin and Arthur are headed? Why would Gaius tell him?

Arthur looks at Merlin so lovingly after he's killed Morgana 😭😭

And now he's literally grabbing at the man's hand 😭 "just hold me, please"

That's gotta be the gayest death scene in television history. If you can watch that without thinking Arthur puts his hand on the back of Merlin's head because some part of him wants to bring him down for a kiss, or that "just hold me, please" is in any way shape or form a 'bros' thing, and certainly not at all an intentional mirror/callback to Isolde dying in Tristan's arms, then I'm afraid you are what we professionals refer to as a dumb-as-nails fucknugget, more commonly phrased as 'willfully ignorant'.

"All that you have dreamt of building has come to pass" yeah except for the whole, y'know, magic still being illegal thing.

I've said this before, but, while I'm sure there was a determined intention to have Arthur die in his armor, probably in some kind of attempt to make sure the audience knows he's died a warrior's death, I *really* think it was kinda stupid that Merlin never removed it, despite Arthur being weak, despite the fact that there was something like five days between him getting stabbed and him actually dying, despite that for the duration of that time they were traveling or hiding out. Merlin managed to produce a cloak to put on Arthur, why did he need the full armor on that whole time? Like even if they left the chainmail on, those plates on his shoulder were just getting in the way, and it looked quite uncomfortable.

Also not for nothing but Lancelot got like, every flower in the forest surrounding lush verdant greens in his death boat, Arthur gets a bunch of sticks.

It suddenly occurs to me, watching this now, that the reason Leon/Percival is such a common side pairing in Merthur fics, is because these two motherfuckers are the only original Knights of the Round Table to survive the series. 🤦‍♀️ I dunno how I failed to notice that before now. My stupidity amazes me.

I'm *really* glad they decided to do this scene with Gwen wearing the Pendragon red dress instead of the black mourning dress. Yes she looks fabulous in it but it's more the symbolism than the 'reality' - with Gwen wearing her house's colors it represents a continuation rather than a finality. Camelot will go on, Gwen will undoubtedly end the war on magic and with Morgana dead (and frankly, I think by now she already brought about the death of all the angry incel type rulers in Albion) there stands to reason her reign will begin with a period of peace, possibly longer than Arthur's. We kind of have to assume that the 'time the poets speak of' is, inevitably, Gwen's reign - which only came about through Arthur's death. It's a little bit toooo subtle in my opinion, but at the same time, I understand the need for the focus on Merlin and Arthur - after all, this show was their journey - not leaving much time to focus on Gwen and Camelot in the aftermath of Arthur's death.

I will just say, the first time I watched this that fucking truck scared the ever living shit out of me. I also just immediately, viscerally hated that scene and declared it invalid - but I think it was because the truck made me jump out of my skin. It has since grown on me, particularly once I started reading 'Arthur Returns' fic.

Everything beyond this point is post-series spec and headcanon, so if that's not your jam you can exit safe in the knowledge that as usual, if there's anything worth commenting on in the S5 extras, I will create a separate post!

I have a lot of thoughts about Gwen and Merlin post-Camlann.

For one, poor fucking Gwen. She's lost her father, her brother, and her husband, all by what, age 30? That's rough. And who knows what happened to her mom, that was pre-series and I don't think it was ever mentioned.

Merlin, dear god poor Merlin. First of all, I just wanna say straight off that my instinctive headcanon about Merlin was that he never returned to Camelot. I couldn't really say why exactly. I just don't think he could stand being there after Arthur's death. But practically speaking, Merlin's still got Aithusa to deal with, that dragon needs some godsdamned house training asap. He's still the last Dragonlord, it's reasonable to assume he'd immediately take that on considering Aithusa is partially responsible for Arthur's death (the sword Mordred killed Arthur with, only succeeded in killing Arthur because it had been forged in Aithusa's fire-breath) so he's either going to attempt to train the bad behaviors out of Aithusa, or...well...

The only thing is, I do not believe Merlin would abandon Gwen, or Gaius. So my hc is inherently flawed. I do think Merlin probably spend a couple months with his mum, and I do think he ultimately settled near lake Avalon waiting for Arthur's return.

But I do wonder, what must their relationship have been like? Gwen, surely, would've sought his guidance in establishing laws governing the use of magic. And surely, peace cannot last indefinitely, so Merlin absolutely would've defended Camelot and protected Gwen. There's just no way he could've completely turned his back on them, but I doubt he could bear living in Camelot. And Gwen is both strong and practical enough to get on without him there 24/7, even though I'm sure she'd miss him.

I also think she would've found love again. Whether with Leon, as many people hc, or someone else not in the series.

I've been wanting to ask you this for a while, how do you think Kai and Nya handled that they couldn't just go and rescue Lloyd in s5? Also I'm in love with your writing! You write these three beautifully! Have a nice day!

Oh, thank you so much!! :D and aHA you have hit on my weakness, I have two answers for you:

Short answer: I think they handled it terribly, we actually get to see Kai having a nightmare and for Ninjago that’s a lot! Very Concerned Siblings.

Long answer: I rewatched this scene and realized something about Nya so. Fic, aha. 

Kai doesn’t even think of running.

He knows he’s out of his depth, he knows he hardly stands a chance without his powers, he knows he doesn’t know who he’s even up against—

But it doesn’t occur to him to flee. Not as Sensei calls the retreat, not as his brothers break for the ship and leave him alone, not as Nya screams for him to run. He doesn’t listen to her, because he can’t. Kai can’t run, because if he runs, he’s leaving Lloyd.

I failed you once, Kai thinks as he grapples with his brother, Lloyd’s skin unnaturally cold under Kai’s hands, his golden hair dyed black, his eyes cold and empty. Lloyd’s body writhes against his hold, clawing at his arms, but Kai’s grip doesn’t loosen. I won’t fail you again.

A screech of fury tears from Lloyd’s mouth, harsh and grating and wrong, and he lashes out at Kai so viciously he almost loses his grip. Instead, Kai grits his teeth and pulls his own leg up, before sending his heel into the back of Lloyd’s ankle, the one he knows is weak. Lloyd’s leg buckles as his ankle rolls, and Kai tightens an arm around him in what could be an embrace, if whatever had Lloyd in its grasp wasn’t forcing cold words from his lips.

“I know you’re in there, Lloyd,” Kai says hotly, refusing to budge. “Fight him, I know you can, c’mon Lloyd—“

Lloyd’s body spasms in his hold, bucking against him as a horrible choking sound tears itself from his lips. For a terrifying second, Kai thinks whatever’s invaded his mind is killing him — but then Lloyd goes still, slumping bonelessly in his hold.

“Kai?”

The words are mangled, terribly strained and off-tone, as if forced through two voices at once, but they’re so obviously Lloyd’s that Kai falters.

“Lloyd!”

“Kai, help me—“

Kai’s stomach drops. He’s heard Lloyd scared before, plenty of times. He’s heard him despairing, broken down in tears. But he’s never heard this level of gut-wrenching terror—

I won’t leave you, is on Kai’s lips, a reassurance, a promise. I’m going to save you, I won’t abandon you, I won’t—

Something snags him from the back before he can open his mouth, and Kai’s words strangle into a cry as he’s torn from Lloyd, the ground fading away as he’s lifted higher and higher. Below him he can see Lloyd’s body collapsing, fists bracing in the dirt as he grows smaller and smaller the further Kai’s taken.

“No!” he cries, pulling at the anchor he’s caught on, as if it’ll obey him. “No, go back! Go back, I saw Lloyd!”

Cole calls out to him, but all Kai hears is the no in his words. His vision blurs into red, and he roars at him, desperation leaking into his voice even as fury threatens to choke him.

“Go back!”

They don’t listen to him. Not his brothers, not his Sensei, Lloyd’s uncle — they’re all set to flee, faces drawn and white as they leave Lloyd behind. Kai wants to scream at them, even as they haul him onto the ship deck. How could they, how can they leave, they made the same promise as him, is it not tearing them apart like it is him—

Nya’s voice echoes in panic from the control room, and Kai’s head whips around. He shoves past the others, racing for her before anyone can call at him to stop.

Nya, he thinks, in dizzying relief. Nya understands, Nya will get it, Nya will listen to him.

“Nya,” he gasps, as he stumbles into the control room. “Nya, Lloyd’s still down there, we have to go back for him.”

Nya doesn’t look at him. Something in Kai’s stomach twists, and he suddenly feels cold.

“Nya?”

She shakes her head. “Kai, we—“

The ship lurches, and they’re both thrown from their feet, tumbling against each other and screaming as the ship tilts backwards, dragged by some unseen force. Kai’s hand seizes Nya’s before she can fall any further, his other hand catching the edge of a panel and jerking them to a painful halt. The abused muscles in Kai’s arm scream in pain, but it barely registers among the blaring panic in his head, the desperate need to get to Lloyd.

He shifts his grasp on Nya’s hand, their knuckles both bone-white as they cling to each other. Biting his lip, Kai strains, his shoulder burning as he hauls Nya’s deadweight up, throwing her forward with the last of his strength, until she stumbles far enough to grasp the ship’s wheel, grabbing hold of it as the ship jerks wildly. Kai breathes a sigh of relief. Nya’s in control now — Nya can bring the ship around, Nya can save Lloyd—

Her fingers shake as they hover over the controls, and Kai’s stomach turns. The wind outside howls violently as it rages against them, matching the tempo of Kai’s pulse. She shouldn’t be hesitating, not now, not with Lloyd on the line, why could she possibly—

She throws the lever forward. The ship roars, wood shrieking and engines screaming as they blast forward, tearing free of the wind and rocketing into the night sky, leaving the monastery far behind.

Kai stares at his sister, his chest hollow even as his mind screams Lloyd’s name over and over at him.

“How could you,” is all he can whisper at her, his hands cold.

Nya’s lip trembles. Her eyes, bright in the flashing lights of the cabin, don’t meet his.

Nya is the first to run for the ship, back at the monastery when everything went to pieces, and that knowledge is going to burn right through her skull and out her head.

But it can’t, because they’re already down one of their family, and if they’re going to get him back, Nya needs her head.

If she can just convince her hands of that.

Her hands shake even after they’ve left the wrecked ship for solid ground, leftover adrenaline refusing to leave her system. She focuses on that, on the steady tremble that runs through her, on the even voice of Sensei Wu. She focuses on the ground beneath her feet, on each pacing step. She’s calm, she’s rational, she’s in control, just like a ninja.

Kai is not.

Kai won’t even look at her.

“They decided. We’re not going after him,” Kai bites out, fury barely simmering beneath the surface as he stalks away from the others. Nya hadn’t joined them, unable to face them knowing the gaping absence—

“What?” Nya rasps, his words sinking in. “What, no, we have to — we have to move now, we have to get him back!”

Kai’s eyes turn on her sharply, then flick away. Nya’s breath falters.

“We could’ve.” The words sizzle from his mouth like burning coals. “We could’ve turned around. Back there, we could’ve.”

Nya looks down, and her eyes sting. “I know,” she bites out, but her voice wavers. “I know I failed him, Kai, you don’t have to—“

“Then why did you leave him?” Kai snaps, whirling on her. His eyes are hot, burning and bloodshot, and Nya’s heart stutters.

“I had to,” she gets out. “I had to, Kai, we weren’t — we weren’t going to win that, you know we weren’t, Lloyd would’ve—“

“Lloyd would never have left you behind!” Kai hisses at her.

Nya recoils, flinching back. He may as well have slapped her in the face, though she knows that’s not his intent.

“I know,” she whispers, her eyes welling up. “I know, Kai.”

She knows, she knows too well Lloyd would never leave her. Lloyd, her best friend, her baby brother with his big heart and his honest sincerity — Lloyd, twisted and warped and mangled, everything she loves about him drowned out in those cold eyes—

Nya drops, sitting hard on the ground as she plasters her hands over her eyes. You failed him, you failed him, you failed him, beats through her chest like a drum, loud and painful where it rings all the way up to her ears.

You lost him, hovers at the edge of her mind, along with a sense of nausea so strong, Nya fears it will make her sick if she lets it in.

Kai gives a sharp, broken breath, and Nya hears the thud as he sits next to her, as if his limbs have failed him. He exhales, long and tired.

“I’m sorry,” he murmurs, his voice hollow. “I just. I made a promise.”

Nya’s eyes burn. So did she. Lloyd is hers, her brother, hers to protect, and she left him. Just like his mother, just like his father, just like her own parents—

“I’m so sorry, Kai,” she whispers, her voice trembling.

Kai’s breath hitches, and his hand snakes out to hold hers tightly. She clutches back at the offering, the words unspoken.

“We’ll get him back,” he finally says, and his words are smoldering, burning white-hot from his throat. “We’ll get him back, and we’ll make him pay.”

Nya doesn’t doubt him. Elemental power or not, Kai is fire itself.

He’ll burn half the world down to get his brother back, one way or another.

Sorry you've probably addressed this before but I'm honestly dying to know what your impression of the movie was without having seen the show first? Were there things that you felt lost by or did you just vibe with it regardless? I binge watched the show just before the movie came out but honestly kinda wish I went in cold!

i haven't much!!

so i saw it with my mom, who did see the series, like, as it was airing. so now i know more about it than she does lol

i'm gonna be completely honest, the movie made like no goddamn sense to me at all.

like, the plot was ok to follow but character wise i could not keep track of them all. and for that reason i don't think it stands alone — i knew what was going on but they didn't do an excellent job of establishing who these people were and why i should care (having since seen the series this straight up could have been like, idk, 2017 special event christmas special given how it carries on)

the only character plotline i was fully on track with from the get go was edith & bertie's, actually. understood that from start to finish which was nice. did i know their names, no, but i knew what was happening and how i was meant to feel about it. also laura carmichael is gorgeous

only names i knew walking out were..... tom (branson) and (thomas) barrow. my mother informed me the latter was also thomas. and i liked daisy for her political apathy even if i thought her love subplot was wonk? which oh i was able to follow that but only bc it was extremely formulaic ajdjd. but i didnt know her name leaving the cinema

carson coming in seemed really weird snjfkd i was like WHO IS THIS GARDENER MAN

i had no clue who thomas was or felt any reason to follow him until webster was like You Know You Want To and i was like. my jaw literally dropped

so, thomas's plotline i obviously started to pay big attention to from there on out and i uhhhh literally starting crying when he walked in and had the never seen anything like it line because that's like. you don't need to know shit about downton abbey to be affected by that if you're gay and have a modicum of historical / sociocultural awareness.

i spent most of the movie trying to remember who was who in the beginning and matching them up with who was in the scene i was watching?

uhh the social class themes were fucking insufferable, i rolled my eyes like every time anna or mary opened their mouths. and for this reason i walked out and spent the next day and a half like, ok i like the irish guy, the gay guy, and the kitchen girl, i doubt i'll bother watching the show, and AS WE ALL KNOW

that isnt quite what happened

i have my chrono tag linked in my bio which i've been told is an adventure

my mom sort of explained some things to me as we left and i remember she was like, it didn't really stand alone and there are some things that mean more when you know the series, and then she got all julia roberts mom on me and was like Thomas, The Gay One, Attempted Suicide and it took everything i had not to be like. mom his plotline makes sense to me without knowing that.

also i really liked tom branson and then watching the series he was just meh. actually? the way everyone has told me like, oh you saw good thomas first that must have made the series feel different!

i actually feel that way about branson ajfjfkdk bc i expected to like him and then i like, didn't til about s5-s6

but yeah no i'm a character driven audience member and i really felt lost on that front.

moooost of my problems were resolved when i saw it the 2nd time, but that time it was sort of still like. wow some of these people are blink and you miss it. like i had no fucking clue who bates was walking out the first time because he didn't do literally anything (not that i am complaining)

also sjfjdj watching it a 2nd time and being like oh the hallboy wasnt in the series huh

i would like to say that i wouldnt have watched the series if i hadnt seen the film already, like i know for a fact i never would have intentionally, but if like, a friend sat me down and made me sit through episode one, i would have had the exact same reaction i did about halfway through the movie

that reaction being, WHAT, there's a GAY ONE, SUDDENLY I CARE

so starting and ending your series with gay action is how you draw me in hook line and sinker is the moral of the story here!
