Accept MY Love - Zenon Zogratis
Tumblr media
(Authors note: First off I really wanted to say thank you to everyone that has stuck around and enjoy my book! I’ve reached 20k! I know it may not be a lot but I’ve enjoyed writing black clover and it’s always nice to have support! And second this is my first time writing Zenon so if he’s a little OC... mind ya business haha)
She was given to him as a toy, his servant, slave. She didn't want to be labeled or cared for it, all she wanted was an escape plan. She was weak, a girl picked off the streets for her looks as she was told.
(Your Name) was sitting hugging her knees staring out of the window. The pale snow falling onto the ground effortlessly. "Women." Zenon says from across the room but she refused to look at him. After a few more minutes he roughly grabs her face and she struggles to pull away. "Don't touch me!" She screams as he quietly loses patience with her.
Zenon strikes her right cheek as she gasp and fell to the floor. The blood spilling from her mouth as she looks up to him in fear. "You monster, just get rid of me already! Kill me if you must!"
"Clean yourself up and lay in bed." He says before walking out.
Sniffling she cleans the wounds and takes a bath, the warm water was welcoming especially since the snow had been falling all day.
Taking the only belonging shes had left which was a few clothing and a personal journal she set it hidden under the bed.
Zenon doesn't say a word as he calms his head a bit.
This women had the nerve to defy him and all he could do was snap her neck to end it all.
"It's time for bed." He tells her as she carefully walks into the bed before he stops her. "This isn't the attire I gave you."
A fear comes across her face as she backs away from him. Zenon roughly tears her clothing off, they fall one by one as she picks up the pieces. "These were all I had left of home." She whispers as he hands her something more revealing to wear.
"You are to obey me."
(Your Name) angrily looks up to Zenon and slaps him across the face. "This gives you a reason to kill me now."
Zenon darkly smiles to himself. Oh how he liked to torture her.
"Bedtime." Is all he says and drags her into the bed next to him.
Zenon happened to walk past her home when he saw her. She was shining in the snow and her beauty was mesmerizing.
Carrying the fire wood for some elderly she was smiling kindly to them. Zenon was surprised how gentle he was feeling. He hated it. Why did this women make this affect on him?
He wanted her... no he needed her. For what? He had yet decided but he got what he wanted.
The way she smiled and effortlessly showed kindness was something he could never do. Zenon wanted that from her. That's when he decided she was going to be his.
Zenon was one to rarely sleep these days, he wasn't known to having a women in his bed unlike his brother. The first few nights she refused to sleep so he had to knock her out. Looking at her reflection from the moon her weight had drop dangerously low. The cold wind blew into the room as she shivered and turned away from him.
His body moved unwilling from his mind as he covered her with more blankets.
Zenon craved love, he didn't know how to describe the feeling. To be cherish or a warmth that was never settled in him. He wanted that affection from her yet everything he asked of her she refused.
Tracing her hair to her shoulders he kissed it softly till he craved her body and bit down harshly.
(Your Name) yelled in pain as he held her body close to his. Removing his teeth from her shoulder the thick blood fell as he licked them away. The look in his eyes scared her. He was enjoying giving her the pain.
"You are tempting women." Zenon lustfully whispers as she throws the covers off and tries to find the closest exit.
"At this point I don't even care how I die."
(Your Name) looks towards the window and back at Zenon. She tries to run out the window to end her misery in this room of his. Zenon wouldn't allow it as he grabs her back knocking her out cold.
That night Zenon dreamed of them as they happily lived together and how she was happy with him. He dreamt that they were making love from the pureness of their hearts. How hot she felt around him and the ecstasy they both felt from the closeness of their bodies.
Until it turned into a nightmare of her blood running thick in his hands as she laid lifeless in his arms. Her cold eyes staring up at him, blaming him for her death. She was trapped.
Zenon wakes up in cold sweat as he looks around to find her sleeping soundlessly again next to him. She was uncharacteristically cuddled up next to his body for warmth.
The next morning there was food laid out for her but no sign of Zenon, this was the best part of the day for her. She was alone and not being watched like a hawk. (Your Name) chows down the food, she was starving. The only time she refused to eat was when he ordered her to.
(Your Name) was curious to why he picked her, his brother Dante had many beautiful women surrounding him. Everytime she hoped he would trash her out already but he refuses each time she brings it up or if Dante tells him his 'toy' was boring.
"There has to be a reason."
The door opens as he walks in and changes out to more comfortable clothes. (Your Name) avoids his eyes staring at her as she clears her throat and set the empty tray out the bedroom.
Walking back to the window seat she watches the snow fall again. There was nothing to do, no fun. Her family was gone and she wouldn't dare try to talk to Zenon like she knew him.
"Are you not happy?" He asks her making his way to the window as she softly laughs and grits her teeth.
With venom in her voice she says "clearly I'm a prisoner and there's nothing to do here."
Zenon gently grabs her head and kisses her neck softly from behind.
"Stop it." She whispers as he lightly sucks on the precious skin.
"What will make you happy."
Her eyes widen as she turns her head to look back at him, he was emotionless. The look of his eyes held no warmth or comfort. It was as if he lived everyday to die.
"I want to leave! I want to go home! I'm sure there's other girls who would rather be in my position!" She raises her voice to Zenon as it slightly cracks from fear.
"She wants to leave me, I can't understand why she is so unhappy? I give her food, shelter and all the attention but she refuses everything!"
Zenon eyes grew dangerously dark as he kicked the chair across the room and dragged her to the bed wrapping his hand around her neck. She protested the whole way.
"Do I not give you everything you need?" He asks in a low voice as she swallows the lump in her throat and he finally loosens the grip around her neck massaging her bruised hickey.
"I don't want everything Zenon." She whispers back with tears falling from her eyes.
He lets go and kisses her tears away as he leaves the room locking it behind him.
(Your Name) finally manages to pull herself together when he left the room, her hands were shaking from the anxiety she got from his close they were. Truthfully she was scared he was going to choke her to death. Even though she wanted him to kill her she didn't have the guts for it.
Zenon was with his other two siblings as they mocked him in his misery.
"I told you to get rid of her, she obviously a nuisance to you." Dante says with a smirk as he shakes his head in disappointment.
"Or she can be my toy and I can torture her till she's crying to just end her life." Vanica suggest with amusement in her voice.
Zenon mentally rolls his eyes at his siblings, he was always the different one from the three.
"Don't tell me she's already begged you to kill her." Dante smiles deviously at Zenon who doesn't usher a word but let his silence speak for itself.
"Ahaha brother you sure are a cruel one!" Vanica says licking her lips before leaving the two behind.
"So what are you going to do? I suggest throwing her out in the snow and let the starving dogs get her."
Zenon gives Dante a icy glare as he makes his leave. Going to his sibling for help was not the brightest idea.
Back in the room (Your Name) was laying in bed and reading a book that Zenon had in his shelfs. It wasn't completely boring, the story she was reading at least but being trapped was driving her crazy. He walks in as she tenses up a bit.
Sitting beside her on the bed she backs away from him slightly.
They stare at each other in silence as she turns towards her book once more.
"You can't leave." He tells her as she covers her face with the book. She wanted to avoid his sorrowful gaze.
"Why me?" She whispers as Zenon lowers the book from her face and traces her facial features.
"You are the most exquisite creature I've ever laid eyes on. I have been enchanted by such beauty. I mean no harm to you but you refuse to accept me."
She looks at him sadly and holds his face.
"I can't give you what you need, I am terrified by you, if I am to be the light of your life it is not a gift but chosen by the heart."
Zenon holds her hand on his face before giving it a light kiss.
"Your fate as been determine, if I let you go my siblings will kill you but if you stay with me here in this room I can give you the ever most love in the world."
(Your Name) eyes fell, the light shining in them were gone. Did she want to be set free but die in the hands of his siblings are be in his company till she accepted his love.
She felt disgusted with herself as she answered him.
"I'll stay with you."
With a shaky voice he pulls her into his embrace as she fought to keep her tears in and he devilishly smiles to himself.

Kagome couldn't remember the last time she had laughed so hard.
Sometime between the moment she met the arrogant, rude man known as Inuyasha and the three shots she had consumed, they had fallen into a flirtatious banter that she rather enjoyed. Gone was the pompous jerk who had so rudely called her audacious names, replaced by a man who proved to actually be decent company.
No, she hadn't forgotten about their initial meeting, but as she downed another shot of whiskey, she realized she didn't much care. For the first time in months - maybe longer - Kagome found herself enjoying her evening. With her shackles removed and her inhibitions lowered, she relished in the sweet taste of freedom that had been sorely lacking from her life.
"You did not!" she squealed with absurdity in her tone, clamping a hand over her mouth.
Inuyasha chuckled, tilting his glass and giving a half-shrug. "I did," he confessed sheepishly, but not at all ashamed of his actions. "Miroku ran down the dorm hall, completely naked, screaming after me."
Kagome shook her head. "I can honestly say I have never stolen my roommates clothes while they were in the shower. Or pulled any pranks on them, really."
"To be fair," he continued, signaling the bartender for another round. "He actually met his girlfriend that way."
"By running naked down the hallway?"
He nodded. "Knocked her down and stopped to apologize."
"Still want to leave the tab open?" Kouga interrupted.
"Yeah, that's fine." Inuyasha finished off his beer. "Another round of whiskey shots while you're at it."
Flashing Kagome a smile, Kouga took their empty glasses. "You're going to dry me out."
"It's still early," Kagome barbed playfully. "Your bar will last until midnight at the very least."
He chuckled, filling up their shot glasses and handing them another drink. "Oh, thanks. I was afraid I'd have to close up soon."
Leaving with a, "flag me down if you need me," Kouga wandered to the other end of the bar where a busty blonde waved at him.
Typical, Kagome thought sourly. On the one hand, she didn't like the way her thoughts were turning, considering she didn't really know Kouga, and hated grouping him in with the rest of the spineless male population she had become accustomed to - especially since he was a bartender and it was literally his job to tend to the needs of his customers. But on the other hand, she couldn't help but feel bitter about his attention leaving her. Maybe it was because she had so blatantly been deprived of it for so long, that her longing for companionship had been exacerbated ten-fold.
Taking a sip of beer - which she had switched to once they started doing shots - Kagome heard her phone buzz in her purse again; it had already gone off several times during her conversation with Inuyasha. She finally pulled it out and unlocked it, frowning at the array of messages popping up on her screen.
Inuyasha raised a brow at the irritable look that overcame her expression before Kagome sighed and locked her phone. She quickly downed her shot of whiskey, not even bothering to 'cheers' him.
"Everything okay?" Inuyasha questioned, against his better judgement. There was a reason people showed up by themselves at a bar on Friday nights - either to drown their sorrows in whiskey or to find company for a few fleeting, midnight hours.
Kagome pressed her lips together. She didn't come to the bar to talk about her problems. She wasn't some sad case that needed a therapist to pour her drinks. If anything, she wanted to forget about the emotional damage that had been inflicted earlier that day. Her heart had been broken, her ego bruised, and no matter how many times her friends had told her he wasn't worth it, their sympathies didn't make her feel any better.
But, alcohol had a funny habit of turning into truth serum, and she found herself spilling her guts before she could stop herself. "Just my ex-boyfriend - er, fiance - blowing up my phone."
Inuyasha chuckled. "Can't take a hint, huh?"
Kagome shrugged with a bitter smile. "I mean, he broke off the engagement. Not sure why he can't follow through with his decision."
She had expected sympathy, perhaps even empathy. That's what most people offered in a situation like this, when they didn't know what to say or how to react. But Kagome was caught off-guard by Inuyasha's next question.
"How long were you together?"
Kagome eyed him curiously, his honey gaze hiding a wealth of understanding. "Five years," she answered him, twirling a strand of her dark hair around her finger. "Planned our life together, put a ring on it, and even booked the venue. But… I suppose he got cold feet a long time ago."
"His loss. What kind of bastard would put someone through that?"
She hummed thoughtfully, but didn't answer. It wasn't in her best interest to start talking about the past now, and she would rather take the spotlight off of herself all together. "What about you?" she asked her barstool companion as she took another sip of beer. "Any lucky ladies in your life?"
Inuyasha chuckled mirthlessly. "Nah, not anymore."
Kagome arched a brow. "Dare I ask?"
"Not much to tell. Her career and ambitions drove a wedge between us, and she decided they were more important than me. Simple as that."
"Sounds high maintenance."
He grinned. "Something like that. I mean, she knew what she wanted and didn't care what stood in her way. Even me."
Kagome felt an ache beneath her breast for the man beside her. She knew the pain of rejection very well. "Put out in the rain just like a dog. Doesn't that bother you?" she asked, tilting her head.
He frowned at her choice of words, and Kagome knew she may have touched a nerve then, but the alcohol had stripped her of her filter apparently.
"Well, I guess we're all damaged somehow," he replied with a shrug.
She scrunched her nose. "That's a bit thoughtless."
"What can I say? Shit happens. Get over it."
And then Kagome suddenly remembered the arrogant, rude, condescending jerk she had met when she had sat down at the bar earlier in the night. She narrowed her eyes. "Why are you such an ass?"
Inuyasha smirked while bringing his beer to his lips. "You are what you eat?"
Kagome let loose a growl of frustration. She had only known him for a short time, but she had quickly learned that Inuyasha was the most infuriating human being on the planet! "Your immaturity is revolting," she stated matter-of-factly, waving down Kouga for another shot of whiskey. She was definitely not drunk enough to deal with the way the conversation had turned.
"I'm not known for my friendly disposition."
Kagome glared at the man sitting next to her. "Is it fun being a jerk to me? Does it satisfy you?"
Inuyasha chuckled. "Actually, it is pretty entertaining."
She rolled her eyes. "You know, Inuyasha. You can hide behind that fake bravado all you want, but I know you're just a big softie underneath."
"Keh," he grumbled, finishing off his beer.
Kagome threw him a glare. "What? No witty repartee?"
He set down his empty glass with a little more force than usual, grabbing Kagome's attention. "I know your type, wench," he snapped, his amber eyes boring into hers. "I know exactly the kind of person you are; all high and mighty, acting as if you're better than everyone else. You think you can show someone how great life can be and how fantastic it is if I would just try. Well, sorry to break it to you, sweetheart, but not everyone is worth saving, all right?"
His words left Kagome stunned into silence for a brief moment. How did their witty banter only a few minutes ago turn into this? This… This denied anger and unadulterated cynicism had Kagome reeling, her thoughts turning to what exactly had penetrated Inuyasha's life so completely that he had such a negative outlook on such.
She pursed her lips. "How much do you think you're worth?"
Inuyasha shrugged. "Like twenty bucks. Or two twinkies." He grinned at his own comment, but Kagome didn't find it very funny.
If anything, Kagome felt pity for him. No matter how bleak her life became, she always managed to find the good in it. If a person couldn't do that… Well, that was a pretty sad way to live. "As much as I would love to hear you divulge all of your secrets, this is a great song and I feel like dancing."
"Look, wench," Inuyasha barked out, his anger palpable. "I'm not looking for your validation. I'm pretty fucking happy with my life of dirty pennies and whiskey bottles. We don't all need to be Barbie."
She looked over at him, the low dim of the bar lights shining off his silver hair, and found she could only nurse one wounded heart at a time. "I just wanted you to leave tonight and think the world is a little less horrible than you thought."
"Hey, pretty lady," Kouga greeted as he appeared at the perfect time with another shot of whiskey for her and a full beer, stealing her full attention away from Inuyasha.
Kagome immediately downed the shot and chased it with her beer, ready to forget half of the night and lose herself in the music pounding through the speakers. As the evening wore on, the bar became busier, and the DJ had started up a round of tunes that had half the customers on the dance floor.
Kouga watched her curiously, arching a brow. "You alright there?"
"Dance with me?" she called over the bass pounding through the speakers. Oh yes, it was now the time of the night in which she had no qualms for asking for what she wanted.
He chuckled and glanced over at the other bartenders who appeared to have things under control. "You can steal me for a few minutes."
Kagome grinned and giggled like a school girl, leaving Inuyasha behind without delay. Kouga met her at the end of the bar and took her hand in his as she pulled him out onto the dance floor.
Some upbeat dance music blasted through the speakers. Kagome moved and swayed through the bodies crowding near the DJ, the vibrations of the music becoming part of her energy, raising her up several levels at once. Gone were her heartbroken wallows and the biting arrogance of her barstool companion. Her mind buzzed with pure joy. She moved in her dress like her hips were made to sway, the black sequins catching the disco ball that twirled above, causing her to glitter on the dance floor.
Kouga pulled her close, his strong hand pressed against the small of her back, his chiseled chest pressed against hers. She ran her fingers through her messy hair and pulled it to the side, feeling the beat of the music pound with each beat of her heart. Bodies pressed in tighter all around them. Kagome felt the part of her that was really her come out to play, to feel the vibe of the music and let her body go free.
"You're beautiful," Kouga's voice whispered in her ear, sending shivers down her spine.
His lips looked soft and very kissable, and Kagome knew her decision-making skills were indeed hindered by the alcohol that buzzed through her veins. And then his attention was caught by something else, his royal blue eyes pulling from hers to the outskirts of the dance floor. He said something to her, attempting to shout above the music, but his words were swallowed up by the electric beat that kept her entranced.
Kagome felt his hands slip from around her waist and he disappeared into the crowd. She didn't bother to follow, her hands playing with her hair, her hips moving to the music as she lost herself within it. This was what her heartbroken soul had fiercely needed; a night to forget all the troubles of the day.
Large, meaty hands found her waist, but they were unfamiliar and too warm to the touch. Kagome felt a warm flush find her cheeks as she gazed up to meet a stranger's hazy stare. He pulled her in close - too close - and even in her alcohol-ridden mind, she felt mild panic begin like sparks in her abdomen.
She tried to push him away, first gently and then forcefully, pretending to laugh at his behavior. "Thanks for the dance, but I need some fresh air."
"C'me on, baby," he slurred, pulling her tighter to his sweaty frame, his hot breath rolling over her skin. "We just met. Let's dance s'me more."
Kagome frowned. "I said no." Before she could stomp on his foot and fight her way out of the throng of dancers, the man was forcefully pulled away from her. They became separated by another man, one with very familiar silver hair who had his back to her. She didn't hear the words exchanged, but whatever was said was enough to send the man scampering off to the other side of the bar.
Inuyasha turned around, his piercing honey eyes studying her expression, before his hand gently wrapped around her waist. His grip on her wasn't strong like Kouga's, or possessive like the stranger. Inuyasha's hand was warm against the small of her back, and the anxiety she felt moments ago melted away.
"You okay?" he asked, swaying his hips in tune with hers as they continued to dance to the beat of the music.
She grinned up at him. "Were you worried about me, jerk?"
"Keh," he grumbled, his lips pulling into a smirk. "I despise you more than any other human I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. You're loud and wild and apparently have no sense of self-preservation. You also act like you have the mental capacity of a five year old."
"Are you flirting with me?" she barbed in return.
"Maybe."
His hand found the back of her neck, his fingers finding purchase in her hair, his hips grinding against hers. Warmth pooled into the pit of her stomach, his breath caressing her skin, and she moved her lips to find his.
Kagome barely had a moment to react before he pressed his tongue to the seam of her lips and delved inside her mouth. It was a very sloppy kiss with the strong scent of beer being exchanged between their billowing breaths. Her arm reached up and tangled around his strong neck. She pulled away and arched up into his broad chest, letting a moan escape in the contact of body heat against her own, before she drew back into his lips.
She could nearly taste the slight bitterness of the beer as it rolled off her tongue and seeped down her throat with every push of his tongue against hers. The kiss coupled with the beer and whiskey humming through her system obliterated every thought. For the first time that day, her mind was locked into the present. Her usual concerns for her life were suspended, and she had no wish for the kiss to end.
But as the music changed, they pulled apart. Inuyasha's skin shimmered with sweat and his amber eyes flecked with gold held her gaze. The beat of the music consumed them under the crazy neon lights, and Kagome felt alive during a night that was still so young.

That G-D Ring of Yours
High Fidelity’s Robyn Brooks X Female reader

There's probably gonna be a part 2
Word count: 2.5k words
Warning(s): +15 | implied cheating, internalized homophobia, heterosexism, author and Rob swearing, no hate to polyamorists but major hate to bad faith players, shameless self insert, no beta, barely edited, long as fuck I'm so sorry
Tumblr media
Author's note: I'm having anxiety for no discernable reason and my brain has decided this is ideal fuel for a fic, so please enjoy. EDIT: ha ha yeah still anxious but we're doing stuff about it
-------------------------------------------------------
"-- And she just touched my hand by accident and I just felt this–  this spark between us…"
It was so sweet how he was talking about it. Or at least it would be were this not your fiancé explaining how he had been seeing another person behind your back. Had you rushed into things with him? Gotten hitched after three months because of familial pressure to settle down and start your family? Quite possibly.
But it didn't make that stabbing in your gut hurt any less.
You had been a little gung-ho from date number 1, but he had been right there with you the whole time. Date number 2 happened the following weekend and then you just kept seeing each other more and more until before you knew it you had been introduced to each other's extended families and announced your engagement on Valentine's Day.
You started to suspect something was amiss on Sunday, when you were braiding your hair on the bed and he had gone to take a shower. He accidentally set his phone screen aside with a text chat still open. Thinking nothing of it (he had already told you he was talking to Mark about getting drinks tonight), you looked at the name and saw it belonged to a woman you had never heard of before. Your immediate reaction was 'she must be a new coworker or a cousin,' but then you glanced again and saw the text conversation mirrored the same kind of ‘sentiments’ he texts you.
The dirt burned into your brain for eternity:
Tumblr media
You had looked away then. You were actually not going to say anything at all to him that night– had planned to bring it up after Tuesday dinner with your auntie's family, but something came up. It turns out that Jessabelle also frequented the same Starbucks as you (and she's your age, not a teen like you worried). You can't even find it in you to be mad at her since it seemed like she had no idea who you were when she showed you the picture of her date at a baseball game. You tried not to puke as you asked for her number and to send her that picture "for her contact profile."
You hadn't heard a word your fiance had said since the beginning of the phone call and you cut him off with some excuse you barely remember. You tossed your phone carelessly onto the couch and laid back on the cushions in defeat. What now?
You weren't really a drinker or a smoker, and you didn't exactly have friends who would be supportive right now. You could hear them now, your family too– asking you what you did wrong, telling you to just forgive him or how to get even, or simply saying 'well what do you expect? Boys will be boys.'
Maybe… no, you definitely need to get this off your chest before you do something stupid like pretend to forget about it. You had a bad habit of that because you tend to fall fast and hard. Perhaps your neighbor could give you some advice.
Thank the Lord for fire escapes. Rob lived on the floor beneath you, always playing something good from her huge collection of vinyl records. You've told her at least a hundred times before if she played nothing but Phil Collins for the rest of eternity, you could die happy. You crossed your fingers and hoped you weren't being weird or invading her privacy.
Thankfully, she seemed to be expecting you. She even motioned that the latch was undone and waved you inside. Ok the second wine glass made your face grow hot.
"I'm not interrupting am I?"
Rob gave you a warm smile. "I could hear you pacing around your kitchen for about an hour. Was about to come and get you actually."
She pressed the glass into your hand and you made an effort not to grimace. Rob liked her drinks cheap and strong and she never held back. You tried a sip just to be polite, and she snorted at the face you pulled.
"That's right, you like that sweet stuff. What's it called again?"
"Stella Rosa," you mumbled, grateful when she takes the glass back and hands you a water to replace it.
"Favorite flavor," she asked looking at her phone.
"Uh… the peach and the rosé. They're all pretty good, not gonna lie."
"OK, take this, grab a blanket from the hall closet, and tell me what's going on."
You curled up on Rob's couch and put your feet up. There were piles of records all over the place, empty beer cans and a pizza box or two on the coffee table. Your neighbor tapped away at her phone screen before silencing it and slipping it in her back pocket. She gave you a minute or two to speak up, sipping her drink like you two had all night. Which actually you did as you did not want to see your fiancé right now.
You felt two fingers gently tap your forehead. "Come on, dreamer, tell me what's going on in that head of yours."
You swallow the lump in your throat. "I feel a little over dramatic saying my life is about to fall apart."
Rob raised her eyebrows at you. "Damn, OK."
You rush to correct yourself– explain your weird sentiment in more detail but you end up just vomiting words until your voice is hoarse.
"I mean– like– like it's not falling apart per say or whatever– I… the rest of my life is fine its just my relationship that's screwed. Which I guess I'm more worried about because it's gonna screw up all my other relationships for a while too– dang it, let me start over–"
"Babe! Slow down. Breathe." Rob switched drinks with you and against your better judgement you took a sip. Oddly enough it did calm you down. "So… it's your fiancé, right? What did he do?"
You stared at her trying to unscramble your thoughts. "He… I found out he was kind of... dating another person. After I found out, he tried to explain that he didn't think I would mind–"
Rob barked, "let me guess: he didn't think you were exclusive? Pull the Main Chick, Side Chick schtick? Tried to claim 'polyamory' after he got caught?"
Two and two clicked together at last. "Yeah… yeah, he did!," you scoffed, "and it's not like it didn't ever come up in conversation: we spent our third date talking out our, like, sexualities and fantasies and fetishes and shit. If he was polyamorous, wh- why wouldn't he have brought it up then?"
"That is so fucked."
You took a deeper draft of her wine, coughing before setting it aside. Up until now, you've been numb. Now there's this wave of anger boiling up to the surface and you hear yourself getting louder. Rob doesn't flinch but she does give you this look of empathy unlike anything you've seen before.
"If he– if he would have just asked me, I would have told him it was fine. My family does shit like that all the time: nobody bats an eye! If he really thought I wouldn't mind, he wouldn't have been so freaking sneaky about it. He literally lied, Robyn!"
You whipped around and for a brief moment you knew you looked crazy. "He said he was going out for drinks with his guy friend, but he was making plans to go to a baseball game with a girl I've never heard of! If he really thought I wouldn't mind, or if he 'thought I would understand,' then why would go out of his way to lie about who he was with?"
Someone buzzed Rob's door and she left you on the couch momentarily, coming back quickly with two bottles of your favorite wine. "Damn girl, these are kinda bougie: Peach or Rosé?"
"I--"you choked, "Robyn you didn't have to–"
"Peach it is!" She unscrewed the caps and handed you the whole freaking bottle of white, downing the last of her merlot and getting a fresh glass for you.
You felt a little guilty she had spent money on you. But then again it had been her choice. If she didn't want you there, Rob wouldn't have let you in in the first place. Maybe you were just a tinsy bit worried you shouldn't be here.
You and Rob took a break from talking to put on music and get a little tipsy. It came much easier with the help of the Stella Rosa, though Rob initially complained it was 5.5%, she did get accustomed to the sweetness pretty fast, and after consuming half the bottle, realized it was a little easier to get carried away with a drink like this. She admitted it was her first time trying rosé and now she was hooked. Eventually you started talking again, just spilling your guts out with no filter anymore.
"I really think I just hate myself," you said cuddling the cool glassware. "When I found out, I wasn't even thinking of it as a betrayal of my trust– it felt like I was trying to come to terms with it so I could continue with the relationship. Not because it would make me happy but because… I don't know… it's what everybody else wants me to do. They don't even know about it and I was fully prepared not to tell them even though they'd want me to marry him whether they knew or not."
Rob barked a laugh of surprise. "Doh-K!"
"What?"
"Nothing, nothing…" she said, "keep going."
You stared off into the middle distance and leaned into her side. She was a tiny bit warm despite her lithe figure. Made you want to throw your blanket over her shoulders and share your greater warmth.
So you did (you're not great at acting out your desires but this is nice!)
"It's just easier," the words left your mouth unbidden, "I don't even know what that means, but it's true. I don't want to marry him anymore but I don't want to break it off. Not marrying Fiancé means disappointing my family. It means having to find an entire new man to marry sooner rather than later because I'm already 'behind' and lowering my already low expectations.
"It's not gonna make me happy, but I just think it's easier to keep this wedding going because at least I won't have to find somebody new who might not be as good for me just because I didn't want him. Another man won't make me happy so there's no reason to drop him... except that I don't want him."
Rob's brow furrowed. "Are you saying it's easier for you to please your family than it is to be happy?"
"Yes? I– no, I– … I don't know," you sigh. "I guess you could say my priorities are a little… mismanaged."
"Sure, you could say that." Rob wrapped her arms around your shoulders and you inhaled the scent of her soap and cigarettes. "What if you tried… like… not doing that anymore...? You just said you do whatever your family wants you to do. So, just like do what makes you happy for a change."
It really does sound so simple the way she puts it, doesn't it? Why are you doing this to yourself? You're not dependent on them for money or security or happiness for that matter. So... why has your whole life been centered around pleasing them?
"I think… I think I've never really sat down and thought about what makes me happy," you admitted. "I think it's just been that way forever and I might have been too scared to try anything else."
Rob hummed. "Are you still scared now?"
Are you? You look into her eyes and ask yourself a question that has never crossed your mind with such depth. You used to be scared– but what is it about your happiness that you are so afraid of? OK, let’s start a little simpler: what are things that make you happy?
“I like…” you swallowed, trying to break down the barriers you’ve built years and years ago. “I like… coffee. I like… short skirts. I like… girls– I like… my job. I like… music. I think I’d enjoy camping, you know, some day…”
Your words… these things seemed so arbitrary and trivial. But in your house, these things cause dissent. “My family has an opinion about everything. There’s no right way to live in all of their eyes, but I think I figured out a way to get past it. Keep my head down and do what’s expected of me. Graduate college, get a respectable job, find a man to marry, drop the job and become a mother. Just… don’t make waves. It seemed better because the cousins who didn’t or couldn’t… well they became the butt of every joke at the family dinner. Lisa had one miscarriage so she was a ‘failure’ and Don never dated girls so he was gay and that was ‘bad,’ but grandma Zelda did everything a good Christian woman could do and they still gossiped about her behind her back…
“And I just… I just let their ignorance control me for my entire life.” God, you could cry right now, but somehow it just felt too good to say it outloud. “That.. that is so fucked.”
Robyn snorted, and you turned to her as if you’d forgotten she was there. There it was again, that sympathy. Not pity, she did not burden you with tears of her own or try to be angry for you. She just listened and understood. You twisted the diamond encrusted ring on your finger and stared at her. You felt it, that feeling in your heart. No one else had given you that look, like she could really see you.
“You’re not going back to Fiancé, are you?” Her question was equal parts worrisome and hopeful and you already knew the answer in your heart.
“No.”
And that was it. Decision made. Actually easier than you'd thought. Maybe not down the road but it felt good for now. There's the telling your fiancé it's over, the moving out, the public announcement, the inevitable feeling of failure, your family, god, his family too. Untangling your lives would be long and hard. You're not sure if you have that level of commitment and motivation in you but fuck it. Problems for tomorrow.
You rest your head on Rob's shoulder and hope your not pushing any boundaries. She doesn't stop you though, in fact she snuggles you deeper into her. You get the feeling she's been here before though your not sure which side or how bad it was for her.
"I like you way more in the few times I've met you than any man I've ever dated," you heard yourself say. "I'm sure that means something but I'm too tired to decide anymore. No tonight at least."
Rob chuckled. "I like you too, sugar."
If you made it this far, hi 💛 appreciate you, leave me a comment! Or just comment "💛"

4. Is this a date or what?
Solana
This morning I woke up around nine o'clock and stayed in bed for a while. Oscar wasn't coming until 12:30 and currently it's only 10.
I got out bed with a heavy sigh, and walked to my closet looking for an outfit. I wanted to look good but not like I'm trying too hard. However, I don't want to look like I didn't try. I decided on a cropped thin strapped tank top with ripped jeans and a light flannel shirt. I looked in the mirror and paused thinking about the weather. I checked my phone and it said 85 degrees. I went to change my outfit, but took a picture first. I ended up trying on three different outfits, took pictures of them, and then sent them to the group chat before hopping in the shower.

After punching the air a few times I got dressed and put some mousse on my braids to lay down any flyaways. I didn't do any special makeup just my eyebrows, some lashes and some lip gloss. I walked out of my room to see Jamal sitting at the table eating cereal.
"Where are you going? Did you put sunscreen on because last time you didn't you got burned and then you cried and had me rub aloe all over you and I don't want to do that again." He got up to put his bowl in the sick and crossed his arms across his chest.
"Yes Jamal, damn." I walked around him to the fridge to grab a water.
"Where are you going?" He continued watching me from the counter.
"Out." I sat on the couch and turned the tv on. Reruns of love and hip hop were on so I decided to just watched that until it was time to go.
"Where?" I sighed and threw my head back on the couch.
"What is this? And interrogation?" I tossed the remote on the coffee table in front of me. "You're not my dad! You always tryna hear something."
Jamal gave me a straight face and I couldn't help but bust out laughing. He did this to himself asking all these damn questions.
"Chill out J." I giggled to myself. "I'm a big girl, I can handle myself."
He rolled his eyes and walked down the hall to his room. I stayed on the couch watching tv for the next hour. I was hungry but decided not eat because I'm pretty sure I'll eat with Oscar.
~
12:30 came and went, Oscar still wasn't here. I waited until 1 o'clock to text him, it's only been thirty minutes but Oscar is very punctual it's sickening. I checked my phone again and seen that my message was left on read.
I twisted my face up and locked my phone. I sunk into the couch thinking that maybe he's busy right now and him leaving me on read is his way of telling me he's still coming.
Unfortunately that wasn't the case, I've sat here for another two hours. I laid down on the couch still watching tv, upset. I heard Jamal come out of his room and into the living room.
"I thought you were going out." He came and sat on my back.
"Yeah me too." I groaned out from under him. "Do you wanna go out? Like to eat or something?"
"Really?" His whole face lit up at my question.
"Yeah," I giggled at him, "why wouldn't I be serious?"
He shrugged his shoulders and got up to put his shoes on. I squint my eyes not believing him then got up myself to put my sandals on.
Before leaving I made Jamal take a picture with me for Snapchat. I captioned it with a red heart and posted it. I grabbed my keys from the key hook and left with Jamal behind me. I waited in the car while he locked the front door and pulled out when he got in the passenger seat.
"Where to brother?" I glanced at him but still kept my eyes on the road. Safety first.
"Let's go to the state fair." I stopped at a red light and looked at him surprised.
"Are you sure because last time you told mom and dad you were going to sue them for child endangerment." I laughed and pulled off to get on the freeway.
"I'm a new man now. I'm stronger," he flexed his arms to show his nonexistent muscles, "I'm taller."
"Right." I nodded at him slowly. "We'll see how much of a 'new man' you are when it's time to get on rides."
For the rest of the drive we sung most of the songs that came on Spotify together. Moments like these are my favorite because as we get older we started to drift apart doing our own thing.
About 45 minutes later we parked and hopped out to get to the ticket booth. It was almost 4 o'clock and the park didn't close until 8 so we had some time. For Christmas last year we were gifted membership passes so we didn't have to pay as much and I'm so thankful for our rich family members.
Looking around the park we tried to decide what we wanted to do first. I haven't eaten yet and I was super hungry, like hungry hungry. I looked around for the food truck that I wanted. They served these really, really good buffalo chicken calzones and then I would just get a bucket of fries from another truck and fried Oreos from another. Be honest, who comes to fairs to ride rides because I don't, I come to eat.
Jamal and I sat at one of the free tables and he watched me eat with a disgusted face.
"You know none of that is good for you and with the pace you're eating at, you're bound to choke." He stopped talking abruptly. "I'm not CPR certified." He whispered to himself.
I rolled my eyes at him. "Oh come on J, chill out. It's like I have to constantly tell you this. Enjoy and indulge in this while you can because once we go back to school it's back to eating prison food."
"I'm pretty sure school food is better than prison food." I huffed and stopped eating.
"That's not the point." I wiped my mouth with the napkins I grabbed. "My point is, enjoy yourself. You're too uptight to be only 14, that's not good. It gives you grey hair early."
"Fine." He sighed and went to reach for my food but I moved it out of his reach.
"What are you doing? All of these vendors and food trucks, and you want my food?" I looked at him like he had two heads. "Go get your own, loser."
~
We've been at the fair for almost four hours and we've ate and played more games than we can count. So far we've won a huge unicorn, big enough for me to sit on, a huge pillow pet and just a bunch of small and medium sized stuffed animals. Since we weren't ready to go yet, I put all of the prizes in a storage locker until we left.
"You ready to go yet?" I looked at Jamal and he looked like he was ready to pass out, truth be told me too. We've been walking around for hours, bumping into people and vice versa, quite frankly I'm tired of it.
"Yeah, you?" He looked back at me and I nodded back at him.
"Let's get a funnel cake before we go?" We both stood up and walked to find the booth that sold funnel cakes. Eventually we found it and stood in line waiting for the few people in front of us.
From the corner of my eye I could see Jamal fidgeting like he wanted to say something. I could feel him glancing at me but not saying anything so I thought I should say something first.
"What is it J?" I turned to him a little, it was enough to let him know he had my full attention.
"What — I don't — what?" He stuttered out.
I pursed my lips and rocked on the heels of my feet waiting for him to tell me. "I don't believe you. So just tell me or rather, I don't know, ask me like a normal person."
He took a minute and finally asked me. "Who were you going out with today?"
I stared at him in disbelief, "that's what you wanted to ask me?" I snorted out a laugh. "I thought you were gonna ask for money 'cause you're in trouble or something. Jeez, J."
He huffed and moved up ordering the funnel cakes for us. I had a feeling he already knew the answer so I didn't bother answering it.
"Are you gonna answer me?" He handed me my cake and we started walking to the front of the fair to grab our things and leave.
"No." I led some guys willing to carry all of the prizes to my car. "I'm pretty sure you already know the answer so...you tell me." I put one hand on my hip while the other held the rest of my cake.
Once the guys were done I tipped them and got in the car. We had a long drive back home because of traffic and it's dark out and people don't know how to fucking drive.
"How did that even happen? Why him of all people?"
To be honest I don't even know myself. Yeah I had a crush on him and yeah he's attractive, very attractive whew. But, the lifestyle he lives is very dangerous, he's older than me, which isn't really a problem I'm eighteen, and he's not really someone my dad would want me to bring home.
"I don't know." I pulled onto the freeway. "It's a long story I guess."
"We got time."
~
We finally arrived home after I spilled my guts about my feelings for Oscar. Surprisingly Jamal didn't say anything about how I felt, because we all know he always has something smart to say.
"I know you're older and you're supposed to look out for me but, you're my only sibling," he took my hand in his, "and I just want you to be safe."
I nodded and squeezed his hand. "Of course. Always."
He nodded back at me and got out the car making his way into the house. My parents were home, I could see their bedroom light on.
I sat in the car for a little while longer not ready to get out yet. My phone went off in the cup holder telling me I had a text message. I looked at it and seen a picture from Braelyn. In the picture it was Oscar, who looked way too high to function, and a girl sitting on his lap. The picture was screenshot from Instagram and it was captioned "Mine 🤪".
I couldn't help but laugh, out of both humor and stupidity. I text back the group chat, "Lmfaooooooo. Bet.", and got out of the car and went inside. I'd get the stuffed animals tomorrow or something, right now I just want to go lay down.
"Hey babygirl." My dad hugged me as I walked in the house. "Jamal told me y'all went to fair. That was nice of you."
"Yeah I thought we should hang before school starts." I kicked my sandals off at the door and grabbed a water from the kitchen. "I'm gonna go to bed, I'm tired.
"Ok, I love you." I repeated it back and went to my room. Today has been a long day.
~
I changed my clothes and then got in bed. I put on Netflix for background noise and check my socials. There wasn't anything special but I watched Jamal's snap and noticed he posted a few pictures of us from the fair.
One picture stood out the most though. It was a picture of me playing the basketball game, I was mid shot with a big smile on my face. It was about 6:30 when it was taken because the sky was a pink-ish orange color and I looked like I was literally glowing. I screenshot it and posted it to my story and locked my phone.
I got another text and seen it was from Oscar. I rolled my eyes and opened it to leave him on read and went back to watching tv. I didn't have time for the tomfoolery, if he didn't want to hang today that's all he had to say instead he stood me up.
"Can I watch tv with you?" I looked up and seen Jamal standing at the door with a disgusted look on his face. "Mom and Dad are...busy and your room is the farthest."
I chuckled and made a space for him on the bed. He climbed in and we watched tv for the next 2 ½ hours. When Jamal got up to leave to his room I laid my head on his shoulder.
"You're my favorite brother."
"I'm you're only brother, Solana."

Collarbone | Na Jaemin
Tumblr media
genre: soulmate au
wc: 1.8k
summary: to your surprise, your soulmate’s that jerk you encounter at a club
warnings: swearing
a/n: thanks to @youkidding-me for the idea (I don't want to put the whole scenario here or it’ll give it away) Not my best writing since it’s just something I spewed out.
You didn’t learn about soulmates from your parents but through movies you watched as a child. It wasn’t that hard of a concept. The moment you come in direct contact with your soulmate, a birthmark located anywhere on your body would appear multicolour for a hot minute before it goes back to normal. The only hard part of it all was wanting to know how it felt when you did somehow bump into your soulmate. Would your birthmark feel warm and fuzzy? Did it hurt or electrocute you?
“I think it really does depend on the person,” your mom replied when you built up the guts to ask, “And where your birthmark is.” Your mom’s birthmark was located at the nape of her neck.
“So did it hurt for you?” you traced your mark gently. You weren’t too sure if your hands had a low or high pain tolerance. But it probably did depend on the person like what your mom said.
“No. It was like a warm hand was touching the back of my hand, to describe it easily. I haven’t met anyone who’s birthmark hurt when they met their soulmate,” she explained.
There were days when you would stare at your birthmark that covered the entire palm of your right hand. At times you would see it as an advantage to have it on your hand. Hands were mostly used to touch. It would easy to know if someone was your soulmate the exact moment you touched them unlike the people who’s mark was etched on places like their back. Sometimes, you saw it as a disadvantage, since you couldn’t completely hide the mark if it did decide to change colour.
“I think you’re lucky you have it on your hand,” one of your best friends, Lia, pouted, “I wish mine was easy to see. Out of all the places on my body, it seriously had to end up at the bottom of my foot.” “True she would stupid if she wanted to check,” Yeji laughed, “Just hope your soulmate’s mark is somewhere you can see. That way you don’t have to be going around looking at your foot.”  You agreed with Yeji, trying to stop yourself from laughing.
-
“Park here!” Lia aggressively gestured at a car that had been turned on and ready to leave. It seemed like she was the only one excited to actually go to the club, while you and Yeji were basically dragged into this. She convinced you to come since she needed a driver home and Yeji just came since she didn’t want to be alone on a Friday night.
“Calm down,” you groaned, “I can’t believe I actually came. I could be at home and watching a drama right now.” You hated clubs. It was where perverts decide to gather and the reek of vomit filled the moist air. That and you hated the fact that your body could be touching someone else’ almost constantly. It wasn’t a place where you could be comfortable. You just hoped there were chicken wings.
As you waited for the car to back out of the spot, another car approached the departing car. They stopped right at the edge of the lot, which made no sense since there were no cars preparing to leave. Your signal was on, you were here first, they better not steal your spot. Without knowing it, your eyebrows furrowed as you tried to burn holes through the driver’s forehead.
“This bitch better not or I’m actually fighting,” you muttered. Your grip around the wheel tightened. The beat of your heart quickened out of subtle anger. You were not in the mood to deal with anyone’s shit right now. You already had been driving in circles for twenty minutes looking for a parking spot. If this spot was unfairly taken from you, you were surely not going down without a fight.
To your dismay, the car decided to back out the spot so that you were unable to inch in as they left. This gave the other car the opportunity to slide into the parking space like they were there before you were. You growled lowly, shifting to park and unbuckling your seatbelt to get out. “Wait, let’s just look for another spot,” Yeji attempted to stop you, but you were already out of the car. You had left the door open as you stomped over the parked car.
You knocked roughly at the driver’s window. Your knuckles hurt, but you continued to knock until they finally decided to open it with a shit eating grin on his face. He wore dark sunglasses that covered his eyes. His friends looked somewhat frightened, but you had no idea if they were just playing or not.
“You really have the nerve to park here, huh?” you banged the frame, “Anyone with eyes can see that I was here first.” You didn’t care that you were making a scene and that you probably looked like a madman. You didn’t care if the group of boys would laugh about this as soon as you were gone. You just didn’t want to look weak.
“Is that so?” he kept the smug look on his face while he slipped his sunglasses off.
“Yes, now I want to kindly ask you to please look for another one,” you ordered through gritted teeth, “I’ve been driving around fo-”
“Sorry no can do, I got here first,” he turned the engine off and let out a low chuckle, “I want to kindly ask you to please move from my door so I can get out.” His friends had already gotten out of the car, which caught you off guard. This gave him a chance to push the door open, dragging you along with it.
You scoff and walk off, “Fucking jerk.”
“Bye!” he snickered. He was a perfect example of why you hated the club. This place was probably filled to the brim with people like him.
Frustrated, you stormed back to your car, Lia and Yeji full of questions. If you ever saw his face again, you knew damn well you wouldn’t be able to control yourself.
-
Your mood for the rest of the night was ruined. Yeah, you didn’t want to go in the first place, but you were excited for chicken wings. Now you couldn’t even enjoy the taste of chicken wings because of one single jerk who could be anywhere in the same place as you. You had seen his friends pass by a couple times with numerous drinks, but you hadn’t seen him at all.
“Want to dance?” Lia offered, “Shake out the anger. At least we found a spot not too long after that. Don’t let one asshole wreck the whole night.” You wanted to say no but she was right. It wasn’t like he and his friends ganged up on.
The next thing you knew, you were on the dance floor alongside your best friends just bopping along to the songs the DJ decided was perfect for the night. It was hit after hit, and they were all perfect songs to dance to. You loved how happy Yeji and Lia looked. You couldn’t believe you were going to ruin their night just because of some boy.
“I have to go to the bathroom!” Yeji yelled over the music. The bass of the song could be felt strongly in your chest and your ears could be ringing, but you just couldn’t hear it over the music. You and Yeji followed Lia, making sure she was safe and fine. She could randomly pass out or vomit for all you knew, which was actually worrisome.
On the way to the bathroom, you tried to avoid passing by suspicious looking men, taking detours past some of the security guards that stood there and by some other groups of girls who danced and drank. You kept your eyes on Yeji in case of getting lost in the crowd.
As you mouthed the words to another well known song, you couldn’t help but suddenly gasp at the boundary that was suddenly broken. It was such a typical move, someone grabbing your ass like it was normal, gone just as fast as it came.
You spin to your left and without thinking, you brought your hand up to slap the person who just made you feel so uncomfortable that you wanted to go back to your car.
“You!” Your mouth dropped at the sight of the same person who had caused problems earlier.
“Fucking hell! You again?!”
He was grabbing his cheek like he was a baby who had gotten hurt. His squeezed his eyes shut, hoping the pain would go away.
“Look, lady, I just stole your parking spot, and I know that was rude of me, but I don’t think I deserve a slap to the face,” he looked at you, eyes drooping. His voice was much calmer than earlier.
“What are you talking about? You just grabbed my ass!” you jammed your finger into his chest, causing him to stumble back a bit.
“I didn’t grab your ass, I would never do that!” You didn’t respond and he found your staring down at the palm of your hand, mouth agape.
“Hello? Are you even listening to me?” He could have just left then and there, but he was too curious as to why you were acting this way. Why weren’t you yelling at him the same way you were earlier?
Your birthmark glowed. It looked like a rainbow was spilling out of your hand like you were some sort of light fairy. This can’t be. He couldn’t be your soulmate. This jerk? Your soulmate? Funny. The colours were probably just from the disco lights. “Did you hear me?”
You looked back up at the boy who was standing there with genuine concern. Though you originally looked up at his face, your eyes were suddenly drawn to his collarbone, which had been glowing the same way your hand was. Your hand hurt, but it was mostly likely from slapping the boy and not your soulmate mark.
“Why are you looking at my- Oh…” He stared at his collarbone the best he could for a short moment before taking your hand to get a good look at yours. He pulled you outside by your wrist, but you didn’t object. You couldn’t get any words out.
“We’re soulmates,” he stated nonchalantly.
“No shit. I can’t believe my soulmate is a perv,” you turned to go back in.
He grabbed your wrist again, not letting you leave, “I never grabbed your ass. I would never do that willingly. It was just unfortunate that I was standing behind you when you went to slap whoever the hell that was.” The boy dropped your wrist and held his hand out, “I’m Jaemin.”
You eyed him carefully. This boy was your soulmate. The same guy who you told off earlier and the same guy you slapped because of a sad misunderstanding. He looked at you with a warm smile and sincerity in his eyes. He looked far different from the guy you first saw at his car.
You sighed out in defeat and look back at him, this time making proper eye contact. Taking a step forward, you placed your hand in his and shook it.
“I’m Y/N.”

They Don't Love You Like I Love You 4/? (katlaska) - kamylove
“There is absolutely no factual or metaphorical fucking going on.” Not yet, anyway. Or, Katya and Alaska take the slow train.
It helps Alaska to know she’ll be seeing Katya soon, to know she’ll be able to look into Katya’s eyes with no camera in between, to make sure sure Katya’s as okay as she claims in the days after their phone call. Not that she’s ever known Katya to lie about her mental health; Katya’s more open about it than almost anyone. It’s just that Alaska knows what it’s like to lie to herself.
And Katya hasn’t been dumping her entire psyche on the internet as often lately, so there’s less information to go on.
Alaska turns down the offer of a ride from the airport. Instead, she waits 83 minutes for Katya’s plane to arrive, and buys an iced coffee the way Katya likes it, to take to the gate.
She doesn’t get a chance to hand it over. Katya walks right up to Alaska, pulls her close, and buries her face in Alaska’s neck.
Alaska hugs back, careful not to spill the coffee. “Hey,” she says, and Katya sighs like she’s put down a heavy load.
Are you okay is such an empty question. Alaska says, “Missed you,” instead.
Katya squeezes her tighter and just breathes. Alaska rests her cheek on Katya’s head and they stay that way for a long time, just two gay boys in the sea of travelers that, for these few moments, is passing them by.
<><><>
“I really am okay,” Katya says, as they head to baggage claim. “It’s just nice to have someone who won’t judge me.”
“I judge you for all sorts of things,” Alaska says. “Like that fucking raccoon.”
Katya, waving her drink around in a way that often leads to a big mess, fakes an insulted gasp. Alaska laughs and takes the cup away from her, just in case.
“That fucking raccoon is my best friend!” Katya says. “Don’t insult her, she’ll hear!”
“Is she in your backpack? Is she listening right now?”
“No, but we share a deep, devoted, psychic link.”
“That makes it even more-”
“I lied,” Katya says. She stops without warning in the middle of the concourse, annoying the family behind them.
“What?” Alaska says. Usually she can follow Katya just fine, these days.
Katya looks her in the eye. “I’m a shitty liar. I don’t care who judges me. I just wanted it to be you.”
Alaska feels something warm and unexpected bloom in her chest. Honestly, it hadn’t crossed her mind to question why Katya had called. “I’m glad,” she says. “I’m glad you called and I’m glad I could help.”
Katya smiles at her, and they keep walking.

They are, thankfully, not performing that night, so it’s almost the reverse of that first night in Aspen: room service, a couple movies, and Katya falling asleep sooner than either of them expects. Alaska watches her sleep longer than she thinks she should.
In the middle of the night Alaska hears a text notification on her phone, and decides to ignore it. But a few minutes later the phone actually rings and she reaches for it blindly, moving nothing but her arm.
It’s Roxxxy, who must have just arrived, and who sounds wide awake. “Where are you? I went to your room. Are you in there and being rude?”
“I’m in Katya’s,” Alaska says without thinking.
“Really?” Roxxxy says. “You and Katya? You might be skinny bitches, but that’s just hot.”
Katya stirs and throws an arm over Alaska, but Alaska, not wanting to wake her, slips out of bed and into the bathroom.
“It’s not like that,” Alaska says. “She needed a friend. I fell asleep.” It isn’t true; she’d never intended to leave. But she’s not ready to open it up to questioning.
“Okay,” Roxxxy drawls. “So, how many times have you fallen asleep in Katya’s room?”
“Oh, my God,” Alaska groans. “Leave me alone.”
Roxxxy’s still laughing when Alaska hangs up.

It’s a short series of shows on the East Coast, just a couple weeks, with most of the All Stars 2 girls. They know each other so well by now that they can just relax and have fun and make people laugh.
Katya can’t even explain to herself what a relief it is to have Alaska there. She loves all the girls, and she’s happy to have them around, too. They keep her busy and entertained. They’re family.
But it’s so nice, and so easy, to have somebody who can keep up with her no matter what, somebody who won’t ask her to slow down or repeat. Their brains spark off each other, like fireworks. If left to their own devices, which happens more and more lately, they’ll take off down a rabbit hole and look up to find hours have passed.
All the Ru girls are smart. Many of them are brilliant. But there aren’t many who are as quick as Alaska.
They rewatch Katya’s episode of Hey Qween together, and Alaska laughs and laughs at how shell-shocked Jonny looks. “You broke him!” she says.
Katya preens. “ADD is my superpower.”
“You can leap 20 topics in a single bound,” Alaska says.
Katya preens some more, but she can’t keep it up. She laughs instead, flailing a bit for effect.
“It’s disturbing how easy it is for me to follow you now,” Alaska says.
“Agreed,” Katya says. “I worry about you.”
“When did I start liking you so much?” Alaska asks.
“I have no idea,” Katya says, “because I am a heartless, hateful bitch. And I’ve never even eaten you out, which is usually what makes me so popular.”

Alaska colors in pages from Katya’s coloring book, making them as garish as her imagination can come up with. She likes to practice keeping a straight face when she hands them to Katya, who always pretends to be offended.
“I really question your taste level,” Katya says.
Alaska just gives her another.

“So, Miss Alaska,” Alyssa asks her while they’re in line at Starbucks. “Tell me the truth. What is going on with you and Katya?”
“I hate her guts,” Alaska says. “Everyone knows that.”
“All right, all right, if that’s the way you want to play it. But there’s something there.” She points at Alaska’s eyes, and then her own, with two fingers. “I can see it.”
“Well, then, you need to explain to me what that is,” Alaska says, “because I don’t see it.”
Alyssa makes an Alyssa face, but it quickly shifts to something more more mischievous as she says, “She likes you, too, you know.”
Alaska groans. “Will you stop?”
“Okay, I’ll drop it,” Alyssa says. “I can take a hint.”
“Since when?” Alaska asks.
“You shady bitch,” Alyssa says cheerfully.
“If you want drama, you’re going to have to stir it up yourself,” Alaska says. “Try Phi Phi.”
“Ooh,” Alyssa says. “Seriously shady bitch.”

“Tell me the truth,” Ginger says quietly, as she and Katya touch up their faces in the same mirror during a show. “I already know you’re sharing rooms.”
“Friends with room sharing benefits?” Katya says.
“Is that the only benefit?”
“Is having access to her wig wardrobe a benefit?”
“You tell me,” Ginger says.
“Honey,” Katya says. “Look at this tragic thing I am wearing.” It’s intentionally ugly, to go with the rest of her look, and she twirls to show it off. “What do you think?”
“Tell me you don’t have a fetish for those long, blond locks?” Ginger asks suspiciously.
“Is not fetish,” Katya says in her Russian accent. “Is obsession. Why you cannot keep straight?”
“Ain’t nothing straight about that,” Ginger says.

After the tour, half of the girls, including Katya, are off to Europe for a month, and the rest, including Alaska, go their separate ways.
Alaska has a week in LA and too many things to squeeze in: meetings, interviews, a recording session, dry cleaning. But Willam talks her into going out by saying, “Support your local queens,” which Alaska can never resist.
Standing there, cranberry juice in hand, sighing the occasional autograph as Willam flirts with everyone in a twenty-foot radius, Alaska has trouble keeping her mind on the show. The drag is good, and she claps and cheers and tips, but she reluctantly admits to herself that it’s not where she wants to be.
She’s home so rarely now that she feels out of touch. But she doesn’t think that’s the real problem.
“What’s with you?” Willam asks eventually. “You’re a real downer tonight.”
Alaska just shrugs.
“It’s not right, working as much as you do. You need to say fuck it sometimes.”
“Fuck it,” Alaska says.
“Weren’t you seeing a guy?” Willam says. “The one with the glasses? He was hot. I would have done him.”
“That was months ago,” Alaska says. “I don’t know. He was nice, but he couldn’t hold my attention, you know?”
“Been there, done that,” Willam says.
(A long time later, Katya will say, “You’ve held my attention for at least .09 seconds, which is impressive considering my average is .03,” and Alaska will say, “I’m three times more interesting than average!” and Katya will look at her like she’s an idiot and say, “Duh. Everybody knows that.”)

Alaska stays just long enough after the show to say nice things to all the performers, and to demand that Willam give her phone back. (“Be in the moment,” Willam had said. Alaska had rolled her eyes.) She’s performed here many times; she knows where all the exits are, so she sneaks out while Willam’s not looking.
When she turns the phone back on, on the way to her car, she finds just two texts from Katya, which is a surprise.
“Bored. Lonely. Bored,” says the first, and “Need constant entertainment,” says the second.
Alaska facetimes her, and finds Katya just waking up, her hair sticking out in all directions.
“You need a constant audience,” Alaska says.
“That too!” Katya says, pointing her finger at the screen like Alaska’s said something earth shattering.
“Trade?” Alaska asks.
Katya makes a face. “Not that kind of audience,” she says. “Or that kind of lonely.”
Alaska knows exactly what she means.
