last post complaining about genshin's writing for the month Anyway i think blorbofication happening in canon is the best way i could describe a lot of the problems i have with it ex. kaeya's relationship with diluc (or klee) is almost the only focus we get on him now, other than his brief appearance in the sumeru archon quest which was just saying his backstory basically with very little actual reaction or characterization on his part OR dainsleif's (also a problem i have in the albedo homunculus reveal in shadows amidst snowstorms). i haven't done his hangout because i. don't care enough to sit through an hour for each route with the quality of content hoyoverse puts out but looking at the ending options i feel like. they missed the opportunity to expand on things we already had for kaeya in favor of Oh he babysits klee! Oh albedo is here! Spend money to pull albedo!Venti cameo! What do you mean him and amber have a complicated dynamic. What do you mean he's apparently beloved by the elderly of mondstadt and the one who wraps up all the incidents there. What do you mean bennett trusts him as an omniscient big brother according to his official cn character profile. We made him talk to diluc again isn't that enough kaeya for you?
and it sucks because kaeya feels like a rubik's cube with an onion's layers and like one of their best character personalities in content where he's actually kaeya and not just diluc's brother who is sad and also pretty! we never see anything about his relationship with jean, who he is the Most Trusted Aide of, or mondstadt at large! because every day we get closer to fanon kaeya being canon kaeya and it's just. You can have canon kaeya and fanon kaeya will follow but if fanon kaeya is at the forefront you're just immediately losing all that depth and it's going nowhere

ok no im so tired but ive had this Thing a Laughingstock Concept Thing in my Brain for Days Now and its.... basically what if Barnaby adopted a lil caterpillar. like it's not sapient or anything its literally A Wriggly Puppet Prop. but he finds it in his home and it reminds him of Howdy and he keeps it. he carries it everywhere. he treats it so tenderly and names it and everything. his delusional smitten subconscious is like "omg... mine & howdy's <3" he and Howdy are not even together at this point
so Barnaby cares for this lil caterpillar and Howdy ends up getting attached as well, because he's on the same shit as Barnaby. and eventually the lil caterpillar pupates, and they watch over the chrysalis So Excited to see what lil wormie will look like as a butterfly. and it emerges and they're so proud and weirdly emotional. the butterfly takes off on its first flight and lands on a flower patch
just in time for Eddie to trip and fall on the patch, instantly crushing it And the butterfly

I know some fans have expressed hesitancy towards Louis' given memories/experiences in season 1 not being fully true and I know that some of it boils down to racist fans "being given reasons to hate Louis/Claudia" but honestly, I feel like that would also strip them of any chances to be fully complex characters who are also vampires in their own right.
When I consider Louis as an unreliable narrator, I don't think about whether or not this will absolve Lestat of his wrongdoings (which it obviously won't because there were issues with him way before episodes 5-onwards), but specifically about why he's doing this now and why he would specifically need to have such a story to grab onto, so much so that being faced with even just a glimpse of the reality of what happened causes him to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. To me, Louis still carrying shame/guilt over the past, his nature and even his former relationships to Lestat or Claudia, make him a character that is filled with a ton to still deal with. 144 years of life and he still hasn't been able to even break down a small part of his own internalized feelings? That is not something that can be simply or easily fixed or dealt with, and that is what makes him an intriguing character that should be given the space within the show as such.
The same can be said for Claudia. I understand why some fans cling to the repeated notion that she only decided to kill Lestat for Louis (being his knight and savior), but that is frankly a disservice to her as her own person because it renders such a significant choice on her part to solely be Louis' aid/new guardian in his life. Claudia has her own reasons for hating Lestat, she has every right to despise him for condemning her to a life that she wasn't even warned about and for condemning her to a constant in-between state of being in a teenager's body. Add onto that his abuse and cruelly taught lessons to her. From Lestat's perspective, his approach may not seem as harsh as what he has faced, but from Claudia's, there still hasn't been a given reason for it. And even if there was, his approach is still horrible towards her. This is why her relishing in his murder should be for her own reasons for revenge and spite, because frankly she has every reason to be hateful towards him. Making Louis the center of her world and love within his own version of events frankly simplifies Claudia and her existence (and even apparent death) to begin and end with Louis, but even Louis isn't really honest about her or honest to himself about who she really was.
Also, I think it's slightly regressive to insinuate that only the white vampire in this ensemble so far should be as horrible, selfish, cruel and insane and yet still get narrative focus (even during his apparent redemption) whereas characters like Louis and Claudia should only ever have noble and pure reasons for existing and moving about in the past or present. The show obviously has a responsibility to give proper focus to Louis and Claudia, but I think that in such a show where vampires who've lived for so long have done things that seem insane to a normal person, they should also be allowed to be complicated, nuanced characters.

god i really only remembered it & clicked it together when writing that but . rusty really refuses to help brisby w cloning . he turns down a lot of money & opportunity to help brisby w cloning, and this is before the clone thing is revealed & its all just chalked up to his father's research at that point but its really soooooooooo . they're his life work, and it's all just for his boys, its just to keep them alive & around & to let them live when theyre stuck in this life of constant danger and screw ups that rusty didnt want & when he's such a failure he cant even keep them alive so many times that they haunt his mind . its not his failure as a scientist that haunts him, its his failure as a father & how he can acknowledge his father as a brilliant scientist but a terrible father . but what is he bc he's doing what any father would do isnt he? wouldnt you do anything to bring them back? and you succeed in that but youre also haunted by the fact that youve let them die so many times & thats not a successful thing thats also failure .

OH about the finale at the shrine, this completely slipped my notice when we were talking about it, but Ichi says he's "reporting" Jo's verdict to both Arakawa and Masato. It's just not translated that way.
Not too big of a difference (well, it is to me, but I'm insane), but if it was highlighting anything, I'd guess it's probably Masato's change of heart. It would've been fair for Ichi to assume Masato wouldn't care and only "report" to Arakawa, but in the context of Ichi doing his damnedest to show Masato they all love him, it works in terms of, "Maybe I made him reconsider, and maybe now he would care."
Also... I'm looking at it in a "measured" way, since the chapter trophies are always just standard "Nth Chapter Cleared" messages that the localization team just spices up for us, but there's something I find really poignant about the Chapter 13 trophy being worded as "Fate of Our Fathers." The pluralization of both the noun and pronoun. Realizations that come too late.
Of course, Masato definitely didn't "know" and had no real reason to suspect it, but the Arakawas have this bizarre subconscious almost-psychic link. So even if he doesn't really think so, there's this sense that Ichi "might as well" be Arakawa's "real" son because they're so much more alike. And maaaybe he felt that way about Jo and himself at one point, because (as we've discussed) there has to be a reason Jo was Masato's "favorite."
[Follow up to this ask]

i do Not like the ending of a real rain im sorry this may be controversial.
i get what they're going for with hotch shooting the unsub. i get the foreshadowing of the past case where hotch talked a man down who was then acquitted and went on to kill again. i get the parallel of the unsub killing people who he feels were unfairly acquitted and then hotch killing him out of implied fear that he'll be acquitted by a sympathetic jury. but if you're going to attempt a parallel like that and have a character make a choice like that you need to commit to it i think? there's not even a conversation about it. i dont think it's ever brought up again, hotch doesn't even say anything.
one scene on the jet, if it was well-written enough, could make me accept the ending even if i dont like it, but no. the episode ends with hotch shooting a man who is surrendering and everyone is apparently fine with it?
(i'd like to note that this is a criticism of the writing, not hotch. i think this is an out-of-character choice without justification beyond "one time i talked a guy down and he got acquitted so this time ill shoot the guy as he surrenders. and then keep my job somehow". it just feels lazy and weird.)
