OH about the finale at the shrine, this completely slipped my notice when we were talking about it, but Ichi says he's "reporting" Jo's verdict to both Arakawa and Masato. It's just not translated that way.

Not too big of a difference (well, it is to me, but I'm insane), but if it was highlighting anything, I'd guess it's probably Masato's change of heart. It would've been fair for Ichi to assume Masato wouldn't care and only "report" to Arakawa, but in the context of Ichi doing his damnedest to show Masato they all love him, it works in terms of, "Maybe I made him reconsider, and maybe now he would care."

Also... I'm looking at it in a "measured" way, since the chapter trophies are always just standard "Nth Chapter Cleared" messages that the localization team just spices up for us, but there's something I find really poignant about the Chapter 13 trophy being worded as "Fate of Our Fathers." The pluralization of both the noun and pronoun. Realizations that come too late.

Of course, Masato definitely didn't "know" and had no real reason to suspect it, but the Arakawas have this bizarre subconscious almost-psychic link. So even if he doesn't really think so, there's this sense that Ichi "might as well" be Arakawa's "real" son because they're so much more alike. And maaaybe he felt that way about Jo and himself at one point, because (as we've discussed) there has to be a reason Jo was Masato's "favorite."

I do feel a little vindictive about the thought of Luceris having any kind of happiness after what he puts MC through. Like, maybe the guy stopped the bullying from the servants and maybe he does encourage MC to get a love of their own despite everything. But that's still far too little for me to see as redeemable; MC did nothing wrong in the first place, but Luceris makes them pay a price that was not theirs to pay. Until the day he gives them their freedom or actual stops his whole kingdom from taking constant dumps on them, I have hard time seeing anything he does as redeemable enough that he should be allowed to have happiness without constantly having to struggle for it, like MC has to do while in Rosea. Again, vindictive on my part (congrats btw, I think Luceris might be one of the few IF characters that makes me feel this way), but that's how he makes me feel.

The following is just my opinion and maybe a bit rambling but oddly enough, I don't think he needs redemption.

I have always disliked when antagonists get a redemption just for the sake of "likeability" or as a way to tie everything together in a pretty bow because to me it takes away from a character. And usually redemption is like a whole turn and it's like "this character is 100% good now! not even 0.01% of bad in him!" which puts me off kahsjs.

I have always said I don't believe any of the characters are 100% bad or 100% good because that's just seeing the world in a black and white way which is kind of naive in my opinion.

If he lets MC go, I don't think that would redeem him. It would simply show he isn't 100% bad but don't we all know that already? If he does 10 good things, do they erase the 10 bad things he has done?

I think redemption is too fickle of a word because then it would feel like it implies MC's forgiveness. "Oh he let you go, he has turned over a leaf, he's good now." It feels so hollow to me, I don't know LOL. Maybe I'm too pro-MC sometimes ajshsj.

If Luceris does good things it's because there are parts of him that are good and if he does bad things it's because there are parts of him that are bad. Both parts of him are real and they coexist, he's not plain black nor plain white, and that is okay! I despise when characters are stripped away of their flaws to be "good." 😭

On the same note, I don't think redemption should be the gateway to happiness because I feel like saying 100% good people deserve happiness would mean none of my characters end up happily which is miserable LMAO. If we did that I doubt even our baby Helios would be happy.

I liked seeing Tanahashi for the whole 2 minutes of screentime he got, the slingblade to Drive was sick as fuck. All of that is not to say that I’m now perfect, cause if anything I’m still flawed, hopefully less from when I was a teen but continuing to learn and grow is the goal yknow but man does Yoongi have to take it easy on himself and having reader by his side, hopefully allows him to see that he shouldn’t dictate his life decisions on what his family thinks of him— heck even “dating” reader is contradictory on its own but we make mistakes to learn.

Minami Anonx7 If it helps Literally everyone I have known ever has brought up that I sound like a literal cartoon mobster henchman every time I call people boss so i've just embraced it now fully. Everyone is Boss To Me as I sling my guns goofily to Get Da Coppers. But I SEE…. i've been playing through the yakuza games chronologically I’m currently watching through y4 right now but id like to watch dead souls afterwards. It is extremely funny though the idea of watching them completely ramshackled out of order. Anyways. 1) I personally would love to play the minami centric side game also + I literally cannot imagine it’s anymore embarrassing a thing to want then me daydreamng abt the side game id like to make for my yakuza OC and 2) SOOOOOOO true I love it when Nishida and Minami are like sort of a awful duo together also I admire your like notes about M construction. I haven’t given it much thought yet on how it actually works but that’s mostly bc I have family who work in construction so I make myself laugh thinking Majima has no idea what the hell he’s doing LOL but anyways real…… Idk if you've ever read it but there’s an awesome fic on ao3 where it’s basically about how Nishida was also a prisoner of the hole and this like sort of implied idea or like at least smth I saw someone bring up before in conjunction idea that “Whilst Minami tries to emulate Majima Nishida actually IS like Majima in a way and the result of that has made him jaded/heavily desensitised” which i think adds a really interesting layer to the Relationship to think abt ep if it were canon. So this is why Desperately desperately I need a M construction side game I need something to focus on the majima family outside of him and honestly especially on Nishida…… tangent but there is so much interesting potential w him I want to see it explored !!!!!! Last note here but have u seen Minami's scene in RGG online before? I just found an English translation of it today and it had me very biting and chewing over A) Minami getting legitimately upset when his fake accent was mocked, not bc it was a slight against HIM but against MAJIMA and B) the sort of self deprecating mention he makes of what good is he if he’s not strong enough / good at smth before it immediately gets pushed aside by him and C) the implication that Minami is genuinely attached to Kamurocho/wants to protect it. If u havent i can try and find the post I saw abt it but. Much to think about

also your point about Nishida is spot on. you don't keep the kind of man who trembles at every conversation he has for that many years without breaking him down and making him (comparatively) jaded in such a stressful line of work. on top of that, Majima literally tests this man like its some sort of divine Greek-mythos punishment put unto him by the gods..... he's absolutely jaded underneath that shaky deadpan stare. Nishida may never outwardly resemble Majima, persona or the genuine self, but he absolutely rubs off on him and influences him heavily. this is the kinda relationship most Gokudo in the series seem to have with their bosses when they're worth a damn, Saejima was ready to walk to the ends of the earth for his patriarch due to the positive impact he had on him, and Majima likewise for his boss, though moreso in the opposite direction. not wholly..... Majima's priority of strength begets some kind of twisted respect towards Shimano. I wonder if he lacks that respect for Sagawa, who as far as I remember never physically overpowers or threatens Majima except for when he's already down and weakened in some form.......? getting off track. point is Oyajis are very very influential to their precious boys, their Family will reflect them (personality, how he runs the joint, etc) regardless if they want it to or not. Majimemegoro has some baller fics exploring all this and it's a large part of what influences me today.....

Speaking of, i would love the title of that fic you've mentioned... i'm a little picky of which fanfic i'll give the time of day but Nishida also having experience with Anagura is tantalising. like that's so tragic.... that's so evil...... i'm sitting here wondering to myself if he was a survivor or.. yknow........ because no one else, in canon, "made it out" of Anagura alive. or, more specifically, no victims make it out of Anagura. Satie really gave all pianists free real estate... so I can play his pieces as sacrilegiously as I want and it'd still sound nice /j. But idk, sometimes I struggle to do my own phrasing and my own expression so it is nice sometimes to play something that is from the Baroque era because I don't have to worry about a lot of rubato ahaha

And FOR REALS I don't know how composers do it! I can barely improvise a phrase, let alone an entire symphony. And to think that Haydn wrote at least 107 symphonies. Most of the composers were prodigies but even then prodigies should have a hard time composing... right? Or maybe prodigies just have something else to them that makes them Ling Ling level shsjddkias and to think I have to make my own compositions in music class next year looool
