Ok. I am making a separate post about the synesthesia drawings because that post is getting long.

Exercise 1 for illustrating what music does in my brain is making a sound map. (Example here is Cosmo Sheldrake's "Come Along." )

This gives the 2D sense of the shapes that the sounds make and its satisfying to get the song on paper, but it is not an accurate representation of the sound.

Exercise 2: dance it out. The sound makes a 3D shape, and I am a 3D shape in a 3D space- use my body to create 3D shapes that reflect the sound.

This is satisfying to get the sound out of my body, but it is still not accurate because the sound also creates COLOR.

Exercise 3: Long exposure photo with light sticks.

This is much closer! However my camera can only take 30 seconds of this without a remote trigger and it does not represent the whole song, just parts of it. I achieved this by putting one stick on color change and then the other stick on constant green- because the song is overall very green, but because its a complex song with lots of different instruments it needed more than one color.

There are also limitations with the light sticks because there are only 2 modes (color-change and constant single color.) In an idea representation, I would be able to program the light sticks to go with the music, but I don't have that kind of money.

However, this doesn't sound like a song! It sounds like a sound. Specifically, it sounds like the horns in the song and it doesn't take up very much time. We lose the articulation of the chime sounds, the drums, and the syncopation that is present in his voice.

Edit 2:

Layer them on top of each other, then enhance the finer parts of the song with careful editing.

I cut out some of the constant horns so that there's room for the more gentle swoops of the song. You can more easily see the 'come come along' and the 'sound of the birdsong' and 'hesitant skeleton' in this one.

I also adjusted the colors because while the song is, indeed, VERY green- its more of a yellow-lime color and the reds and pinks of his voice are more peach-orange.

This is not perfect, but its a close approximation of what that song does inside the brain: a series of changing shape and color that moves through a 3-dimentional space.

And is why, when someone described synesthesia to me 10 years ago as an 'odd symptom' I was like ... 'that's not a symptom- everyone's brain does that.' And then someone said something about the way that I describe things and then it was like... hey now...

Anyways, that's the thing.

This is a piece about chronic fatigue although the original idea i had for it drifted a bit as soon as I started coloring the linear #(i really enjoy shading and lighting things and got a bit carried away here but i stand by my choice because this is my favorite thing #that i've ever drawn) #anyways. i often feel especially lately with school being back in season that my bones are leaden with this sort of. weariness. theyre heav #it weighs on our mental health and energy a lot and although there's a couple of reasons we have been given for it #that doesn't remove the fact that this is still a thing that affects us in a very real way day to day although we are good at masking it. #often i come home to find that i do not have the physical mental or creative energy to work on things i really want to #especially project: nexus which i feel extra bad about even though i can't help it because i just started it so recently #it is a mild to moderate struggle to make it day to day and i just. wanted to represent this somehow #my original concept for this was a skeleton with some black goop gunk whatever leaking from its joints #but as i started adding the cracks and coloring them gold (a personal touch; kintsugi is a concept that is very dear to us) #i realized that the focus here was less on the condition itself and more on the body that it afflicts. #so i put it into a spotlight. #ironic i know since very little people acknowledge this irl or even know it exists at all but i added rim lighting. I added color gradients #I colored the lineart and made it all fancy and even added a flare for the head to get the point across that even at its core; disability i #a performance. this is not implying that disabilities are fake in fact this is the opposite of that. i wanted to show that with disabilitie #especially i think in my personal opinion the invisible ones #we are all masking at least a little bit during the vast majority of the day. humans are social creatures and it is only when we are alone #or with someone we deeply trust where we allow ourselves to be who we truly are without fear and even then that can be rare #so i wanted to show this bit of the soul in as broad a limelight as i could. idk this is a really abstract piece and i dont know if anyone #will even get it but it matters to me at least. and even though we've been largely bedridden for the past week i think that's okay #we will get it figured out. all of us. okay? okay. i love you. i fucking love you. we are going to fucking make it #(also the xes over the eyes are because i thought they looked cool they have no deeper meaning at least i think they dont #actually i think they do but i cant put it into words idk. well hold on, if we define a character flaw as any limitation a character deals with, regardless of whether it's something Morally Wrong With Them or not, then Ford's paranoia counts as a character flaw since it does in fact negatively impact him and the people around him. Unfortunately, as much as I love this mod - I mean, it’s beautiful! Just look at it! - it does have a game-crashing bug D: For some reason skeletons can’t get jobs, it crashes the game lol, so as much as I’d love to have Gaster in the Science career, he is a stay-at-home parent! That’s fine, nannies suck in TS2 lol. There’s also only a few clothing options but I’m gonna try some poking around to at least expand upon what’s there already :D

I ended up using the stretchSkeleton cheat - hehe, skeleton - to make Papyrus a bit taller and Sans a bit smaller. It’s only really noticeable in their ankles, and their animations are a bit misaligned, but other than that it’s very cute! :D Sans is also chubby but it’s kinda hard to tell :0

rick and morty 6/10 spoilers / talk

i think like... a lot of this season was talking to the viewers as morty. Havent seen many people mention this aspect to it so I wanted to ramble lol I feel like most of season 6 was just set up yeah... people were saying how inconsistent the show was getting, and they decided to REALLY DRIVE IN CONSISTENCY bringing up old bits like sleepy gary and the butter robot. just a lot of the writers having fun yet also driving forward each character, as each character got their own ep this season directly, to add them all back to relevancy a bit more bc the show does, revolve around rick and morty. so it did that a little less this season

im all over the place here sorry lol I still need to recover from this last college semester lmao

ok so the main point i wanted to make, was in 'story train 2' aka the uh. the episode with Campbell that harmon DEFINITELY wrote. there's a point where rick points at the camera but is talking to morty and he was like 'youre what matters' to the camera aka the viewers. and the last scene in 6/10 reminded me of THAT. his ramble that he always does, the rick and morty 100 years rant, it was the writers talking to us, the viewers.

you wanted this. you wanted the dark backstory, you wanted the serialization and the focus on other character arcs. you wanted to see rick change. and here, now you get it all! you get what you wanted despite the warnings. idk I was baked when I saw the ep, I've gotta do a season rewatch and then a series rewatch again to trace it, but it felt DIRECT. that scene was the writers talking to the viewers. a lot of the season was, really? with the story cycle episode and jerrys internet famous arc 'when they start looking for shit to hate you for that's how you know you made it' yeah that feels like a harmon line for sure. i know there was a lot of internal conflict of what they wanted the show to be, but they seem pleased with what they settled on. this year alone harmon and roiland said that the show could easily go on for 1000 episodes. if one arc gets finished, if one UNIVERSE gets finished, they've created a setup that they can exhaust forever. they always wanted to be like the simpsons and tbh I hope they get a long run

but im VERY VERY excited theyre taking this turn, story wise, writers aside. its honestly the best way they've could have gone, I remember seeing the reveals and being like :] cus yeah. we got rick developing. we got rick regressing! we got to see more of the other characters, id say we got very nice storylines as well. i enjoyed it all a lot and I am very scared-excited for season 7. its interesting to see how many mixed reviews they get and how much bad writing criticism when I can literally trace their thought process for it... as this season showed rick trying to improve and grain mortys trust and respect, the writers were saying the same to the viewers. in a similar sense, as rick showed morty that he would always be rick and to watch what you wish for, the writers were doing the same. no more silly random adventures, were going full canon and you wanted this.

They'd be really confused a lot. But the boys do talk to their human coworkers, especially Blue and Papyrus. So they'll figure out something's not quite right here pretty quickly and try to get to the bottom of it.

Black wouldn't be falling for it for a second though, he's spent enough time researching and observing Humans and the Surface that's he's going to be able to sniff her out like a bloodhound. Edge wouldn't be far behind him either.

Then it'd just be a case of figuring out why the hell she's there and what her intentions are. If they're good, then all's well. Just figure out how to be more convincing of a human. Yesterday my mom said we were going on a cave tour but we ended up going to a Racism Museum and then driving a golf cart on long sidewalks for 5 minutes of looking down into a canyon (there was no going into a cave)

#thamkfully the tickets were free. johnny morris gave em to my mom as a gift #wish his billionaife ass would just pay her enough tho #the museum was fucking insulting to mative ppl amd only called them *ndians #they tried to cover their asses some by saying many of the 150-250 yo native clothing was 'gifted' #idk man....the war jackets of well known native chiefs??? #i imagine that many of them wouldnt have willingly gave them to colonizers #not to mention that one of them had a fucking bloodstain on it but that could be from anything ig #there werent labels on every one of them #a lot of the stuff was just recreations #there were a bunch of pictures of native ppl painted by white ppl #lots of stuff about how white people 'improved their lives by bringing items to trade' #they mentioned how they slaughtered ghe bison population....for CLOTHES. no mention of native genocide #i liked seeing the old pictures and stuff. plus they had actual skeletons of prehistoric animals found in missouri #got to see the flag that covered lincoln's coffin & his hair & his wife's acfual clothes (they were v beautiful she had style) #seeing actual tools art and clothing made by natives was pretty cool but i dont trust the way the museum acquired them #like idc if they took shit from lincoln thats fine #i think the most insulting thing tho was a painting of christopher columbus greeting a group of native ppl #in elaborate clothing while the natives were naked and it said #'meeting the savages' #yeah. racism museum

Anyways im just very peeved that my problems with honor mode so far haven't been the fights because I'm very good with cheesing them. It's been with the consequences of failing certain story events.

Like I haven't touched my game with Poetry, my adorable little pink tiefling bardlock, because despite almost being done with act 2, I foolishly decided to talk to Isobel because I thought I could handle the fight. I didn't need to talk to her! I didn't need Selune's blessing! I had the pixie's bell! Yet, for some reason, I decided to tempt fate anyway with an encounter that took me at least 8 tries to get right on my first playthrough. Now I'm too bummed to play the world's cutest bard because I ended up condemning tons of wonderful characters to their death with my hubris. It doesn't matter that I was technically already continuing the run with dishonor (the phase spider matriarch), no reloading allowed ever I suppose.

So I'm gonna probably make an even more wholesome run with a halfling, and I will simply not take any risks that happen to take out an entire village if you fail.

#simon says #I do need to figure out the act 2 final fight as well as act 3 #the first Kethrick fight shouldn't be too bad with Aylin on my side and no drider #but the second fight? im a little worried #i did find out that darkness works REALLY well on the giant skeleton bit though #helps with the accuracy if he's blinded and you're not #and if you have summons in the darkness that dont rely on sight #but act 3 is gonna be a pickle because i have yet to beat the game ever #like I cannot properly think about or plan battles because I simply do not know #like I found ways around a lot of difficult fights #but in act 3 I've basically only did everything outside the lower city #and only Lorroakan's fight (which was tough) #I have technically made it to Cazador's fight but every time I fight him I get beat so I would just reload and put that off for later #i really do want to do a monk playthrough though since the cursed amulet might have fun monk stuff #i might consider a halfling monk tbh but im always unsure when it comes to class #i hate the monk clothes on the body type though so i might just make it look like camp clothes #anyways yall probably dont care about this but I wanna talk about it #it's the only thing i got going on right now besides stress and depression damnit
