listen. I don't just love father brown because I first saw it while ill with the flu or because it's consistently kind to the outcast in a way that has reviewers calling it Too Woke, obviously a vote in its favour. or because the recurring thief character is very pretty to watch. though those are significant parts of it.
I love it because after eight seasons father brown sits down with the village drunk (a munitions expert in the war, has a soft spot for the parish secretary, name of harold or blind harry) to find out why he gave a murder suspect a false alibi and harry explains to him, calm as you like, that seeing the life leave someone's eyes changes a person, that it's what he reckons brought father brown to his faith, that it's what drove him to drink, and he didn't see that shadow in the guy the police are chasing this time. and father brown, rather than justifying or correcting or dodging or doubting him, says he knows how unjust the situation is. that he got something good out of the horrors of the war. that harry really didn't.
it is not a perfect show and yes I have problems with it but gosh, this is a character who's largely used for comedic beats, albeit kindly, and a scene like this isn't out of place at all but it still takes my breath away. we could've been left with this as subtext, y'know? I hadn't even put together that his alcoholism must have been trauma. but instead harry tells us this directly, tells us it's about guilt, that that's something he shares with father brown, who is competent and so often cheerful and I can't even imagine when he was younger, and it's a moment of such unexpected humanity and respect. and it's such a strange thing to see these characters side by side like that.
the scene ends with father brown calling harry a good man, and harry denying it ("they was only young lads" "so were we, harold. so were we.") and the two them sharing a drink as father brown gets a bit watery-eyed and I'm crying too over my nice cosy 'this is a concerning number of murders for a sleepy english village' show and just. hi. what. ow.
I also haven't recovered from the episode that turned into a heist halfway through but frankly I'm only mentioning that because I don't know how to wrap up a post like this. (it was good though. there were two separate honeypots, three if you count the impromptu replacement, one character terrible at grifting and one unexpectedly great at it, and, somehow, a con within a con. it was really very fun. get a show that can do both, I guess?)

thinking about her... FDB!Elentari...
she'd have to be one of the very first bretons, or a snow elf (since she does have distant snow elf ancestry on her mother's side, inheriting the pale hair, skin, and eyelashes, but none of the tolerance for the cold, poor thing).
she's a wolf priestess—worshipper of Mara the Wolf-Mother—and both this and her natural compassion would lead her to begin rebelling against the dragon cult. of course, when the Dragon War kicked off and mortals brought the first dragon down, she'd be as surprised as anyone when she absorbed the soul. she'd be quickly positioned as a figurehead of the rebellion, and much like her LDB self, she'd see it as her duty: save everyone, however she can.
but what if she accepted the Nord Heroes' pleas for help and was there that day atop the Throat of the World?
what if, when all seemed lost, after she determinedly refused to let Gormlaith Golden-Hilt die of her injuries, she sacrificed herself to enter the Time Wound with Alduin? knowing that she'd be leaving her world and her people behind, not knowing when—if ever—she'd return?
and what if she emerged four thousand years later in that same spot, exactly as the wheel turned on the Last Dragonborn... a golden-haired farmer's son turned mage and musician, who is given the name "Miraak" in another life, another universe?

if you’re having a “really bad day” maybe don’t get online or answer inbox messages. then you won’t come off harsh. regulating yourself and setting boundaries for yourself is healthy.
Thank you dr. Phil do you take cash or check?
I actually got online to put my energy into something like drafts because i love being here and i love writing. I hadn't been on all day. I wanted to get on and do something i love to help the bad day. I also tend to answer anons on the snarky side anyway given the immense amount of hate that i get, especially the ones that sound like bait.
Yea im sure you have some advice for those too like "dont answer bait anons" i dont. That one was on the fence so i tried to be straightforward, and apologized if it sounded harsher than i meant it.
If you like to give out advice so much maybe consider a blog that offers it where people can come to you if they want it.

schools don't really teach critical thinking they say they do but never explain What critical thinking is and also don't tell you how to practice it Unless you get the one teacher who actually teaches you and also. He never actually describes it as "critical thinking". And this might be my autism or some other shit but it's really hard to understand that you are being taught critical thinking when no one ever fucking defines critical thinking. Even when you're LEARNING CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Don’t know if you plan this, but will spamton eventually tell the other 3 Ads about how his glitches feel? Like the “burning/hot plate sensation” I don’t think Survey ever told them, and doesn’t want to say things on spams behalf, but I am curious on how their reactions will be in that area!
Also! Do you plan on introducing Kris back into the story later on? As spams whole “being pardoned by them” thing? If not, that’s totally fine as well!
Another thing! Do you view Gaster as Mike? Or a another party? I know that Gaster and Spam have a connection, no doubt about that, but I just wanted to hear your thoughts!
rlly good question! honestly i have an answer for that first bit in the next chapter when some of the adds talk about, well, the complicated things that they've seen from spamton. The terms and conditions here. unfortunately for surv, they got some of the most heart wrenching info, but i'd feel they're rlly talkative and communicative in nature, telling the others the latest Spamton Revelation Of The Day
(i plan to put more of their convos in the next chapter, which is almost done as i've had it set aside a lot in lieu of a new job lol but i'm gettin there)
I dont plan on bringing kris into this fic, mostly because i'm unsure what canon will do, and this fic is like an au equivalent of a waiting-room-for-chapter-3-to-come-out-for-me like we know for the lightners it's over the course of the week, but for darkners, so little has been said about how their world works it's the creativity juices coming into play. Though he eagerly awaits their return and to be his best self just in time to be a better ally to the party than jevil :D
speaking of not knowing what canon will do, I've definitely been alluding mike to being gaster, but only because that was my favorite theory at the time of writing srpsb. After sweepstakes, it's changed a bit, or i've become a lot more open minded about all the possibilities about who mike really is. Still, I'm committing to keeping Mike as the one who was the one behind the phone and the strings, at least in this au, despite it one day maybe being turned all on its head (but hey that's the fun of fanfic lmao). Though you won't see me saying Mike=Gaster for sure, it's my favorite theory, and one i've been sold on since moment one, but one big thing in my writing is keeping many things vague since the UT/DR fandom is rich with theories and headcanons and i keep a lot of things open to interp (except acid theory like i can't get behind that one at all but yet i never have. absolutely no shame but i like the light/puppetification theory a LOT more just cuz of Spamtons plethora of themes. this isn't a surprise but ya the fic isn't friendly to acid theory lol).
