something just came to mind, iirc in chapter 6 before the last mission or something or during it idk, arthur asks dutch "what about the boy?!" (referring to jack possibly losing abigail) and dutch answers "what about him?" to me this feels like it implied that dutch would take jack in and raise him as his own just like he did with the arthur and john but this time without any of the guidance of hosea (and a mentally stable dutch, he changed a lot over the game) and instead micah's guidance. as in they wouldve raised a "terminator" style jack, a pure meat shield with no distinct wills or wants

not for nothing that roger and jeff are wearing completely identical suits for vicki's wedding down to the same pearl stick pin and it's roger that is distinguished with the accessory and the visual emphasis. that roger wears the pocket square and jeff goes plain without one, without a boutonnière (as feels the most probable and appropriate; they both wear boutonnières in roger's prophetic dream of the wedding). that not only is he wearing the handkerchief, but it's folded in such a way as so take as much space as possible – straying from accepted formality of a neat TV fold, occupying more room on the screen, drawing more attention, pointing among other things to his heart in bright white.

''you mean jeff don't you?'')#this being a wedding that he tried to stop – one in which he sensed disaster – one in which you already have the notion that maybe he does #wish it was *him* instead‚ though he won't say that. but his first and foremost priority in 625 and 626 is her happiness.#he takes the responsibility (and the shame) from vicki's shoulders of telling the guests that jeff left and there's no wedding.#he chases jeff down to the cemetary‚ to try to stop him from digging up a grave‚ and *implores* him to focus on offering vicki a life.#he has a large role in these eps perhaps especially because he's the one that had the premonition against the wedding; but also because #vicki is one of the few people he cares about – and he says as much. all this to say. roger is grabbing attention with his extravagant #pocket square – he's pulling focus visually; narratively; from the groom (in terms of vicki/the wedding – jeff has more to do with eve/#the graveyard/peter) vicki is spending as much time thinking about roger as she does jeff. and the moment where roger comes up to her room #to see her is .... well. there's more shared in the way they look at each other than all v/j's professions of love between them.#(and it's a distant echo of her first night in the house: roger at her bedroom door)#in the ds in my head (my beloved ds in my head) this is where the paths ought to have diverged. that vicki – no matter how much she loves #the past‚ how dearly she remembers the 18th century and peter and their ill-fated jail cell‚ has to choose now. not the grave‚ life.

#vanu is rambling #ok idk this is gonna b a happy post but i think there are lots of people who love me in this world. or at least enjoy my presence.#like i always always always ALWAYS doubt if my friends or family like me and in my head they all secretly hate me #but like for these past couple months things have been different.#i don’t feel so left out (like i usually do in groups) or alone.#like my friends genuinely want me there like they always ask me to go places with them. and i almost always say no because im so busy or #i just cant but they still ask me everytime. yesterday the whole group was calling and playing a game and i got a bunch of texts like hey #where are you u shud join the call it’s rly fun ! but i just couldn’t bring myself to talk to anyone at that moment.#today they were rly happy when i joined the call and idk it made me feel like. oh. maybe my friends do like me #and also i have two moods: i’m either super talkative or i go into my little shell and don’t say anything/add to a convo. and like during #those moments they’ll be like hey u ok? or they’ll just listen to me talk about ceramics and how fun it is or how much i hate eating pears #and like. we laugh so much together. like i have so much fun with all of them i love every single one of them omg #and scary thing is we might not even be friends after we start college. but yk what? that’s okay i don’t wanna think about that.#because like who cares? i’m not gonna let my fears ab the future ruin my friendships. i’ll always love them anyways. and we’ll always call.#i’m glad i met them. they’re all such beautiful and funny and amazing strong willed-people. they are my friends.#it’s just so crazy to me that they willingly want to spend time w me and are sad when i can’t. and they’re so understanding at the same time #they don’t get mad about it. and like they have mad eng last year in high school so much more enjoyable.#someone told me that this is ur last year do things so when you look back you don’t regret anything- so you can be proud of what you did #and my friends helped me with that. and like i still feel lonely the majority of the class because despite this there’s like a permanent #stain of sadness right there at the bottom of my heart. but they make the hard days more manageable.#like i’ve been on call with these people until ungodly hours at night just laughing and i go to sleep feeling a bit lighter.#they introduced me to the tech side of theater which i never thought i’d get into but here i am. they teach me silly facts and words in asl.#they taught me dances- knowing full well i SUCK at it- because we all had fun with it. theyve taught me it’s OKAY to be vulnerable in #friendships and that sometimes being open/yourself is quite literally the best thing you can do for your own soul and others. they’re cool #people really. really cool people

i could...theoretically afford the akudrive stage play bluray

it’s so funny how much kids seem to like me when i struggle so much understanding the words they’re saying if they’re really little and i’m BETTER at interacting with them than i used to be after all these years with my nephew and nieces but still like. kinda awkward

i like them too, to be clear, kids are the fucking BEST even if i don’t want them for myself. but i’m always just kind of stunned when kids attach themselves to me seemingly so easily

#and it's just like?? most of the kids i interact with?#started with my nephew when he was much younger i'd guess not long after we met and started spending time together #and my older niece is much the same way when she comes over she wants to take me around with her #their younger sister not so much but she's still p exclusively attached to her parents it seems #so maybe in a year or two for her #and then my godson sure bc i've gone theirs a couple times a year every year for giving him birthday and christmas presents #but his siblings all get excited to see me too (sidebar his younger sister was dressed so cute today and i'm like #it was not like that when i was 10 oh my god)#and the youngest is more shy in general i think but he was v shy of me when i was over just a few months ago #and today we played tossing coins back and forth to each other and he had the biggest smile on his face #and he wanted to show me some toys in his room #and then he had one of those blankets that's also like a sort of lil costume of a monster #and he asked me to put it on him and then i did the whole pretending he's the monster that's gonna get me #but i was just like omg where did this turnaround come from you didn't wanna interact with me a few months ago #anyway kids are fascinating and also so fun and i love them i love them #i just wish i was better at the play stuff my brother apparently loves doing the make believe stuff with his daughter #which doesn't surprise me he's got a good imagination but yeah i'm always just like. idk how to do this #tbf i don't think kids really notice/care as long as you're engaging with them and all but still i just wish i was better at it #especially bc like if i WERE...working with kids might be fun but idk #personal

Ok so I watched the interview with Stephen Rooney, Astarion's writer, and here are some highlights. (I'm an aspiring writer and current game design student who wants to write for games so I'm sorry if some of these insights aren't as interesting to you as they are to me <3)

He calls Astarion his "horrible little vampire boy"

He loves seeing the fandom around Astarion<3

He did write other characters in the game, but mostly NPCs surrounding Astarion or his storyline, so it mostly revolved around Astarion

Astarion is not as connected to other companions/Origins as, for example, Lae'zel and Shadowheart, or Wyll and Karlach are to each other, but he is still reactive to their stories, even if it's just to stand off to the side and laugh when something terrible happens

He had a clear sense of where Astarion's story would start and end, but it got "muddy in the middle", but those are also moments where the best ideas come from

They write from the general idea that every character has one "good" and one "evil" ending, in order to give the player choice. RIP Ascendant apologists :(

According to Stephen, two of the most important aspects of Astarion's character (to keep consistent when bringing him to Idle Champions, at least) is that he enjoys violence, but is also fun about it

"He has a certain appreciation for violence, I guess? A bit of a murdery streak. [...] He's a vampire, he's all about blood, and he's all about, kind of, those darker sides of humanity. [..] But at the same time, he is ... He is really fun, he's really fun to write, he's really fun to have in your party, and it's very important for me that that is also represented."

"He's gonna stab you, but will have a smile on his face as he does it? I mean, I dunno. That's kind of him in a nutshell."

Larian would not have allowed for Astarion to be a typical brooding Dracula type, and there were scenes that were shot down for not being original enough

The main thing about Astarion was trying to get a "sense of fun." It would be easy to write a character that was very unlikable, and they absolutely did not want to do that

Rooney says Astarion is consistently terrible throughout the game and awful in a whole lot of ways, but he also needed to be charming enough that you could tolerate his presence and wanted him around

Rooney also had a lot of input on Astarion's stats (meaning the 10 Charisma is probalby 100% intentional)

He also had input on how certain lines should be delivered, even though the writers didn't directly work with voice actors

The way Astarion moves and poses is "all Neil"

Apparently, Neil Newbon worked on the character for years and Rooney did not speak to him once, though his voice work did influence how Astarion's lines were written and it became a "feedback loop" (Possible context for "ONLY SLIGHTLY, NEIL")

There were no points where a line delivery drastically changed Astarion's writing; rather it was a constant, slow evolution

However, there was one very spoilery moment where Neil gave such emotion to some "basic" lines that it fundamentally changed the scene (WHAT IS IT OMG)

It's difficult to balance approval, as you don't want to straight up write a monster. Every character needs to have some humanity in them. So if it comes to leaving the party, it needed to be the result of something central to said character. They wanted to be mindful of situations that would cause actual rifts between characters. (I assume this is why most generic disapprovals/approvals are +/- 1 or 2, while character-related ones give +/-5 or more)

However, as they don't write straight up horrible people/monsters, it doesn't come up as often as one might think.

The interviewer makes a point about how characters like Astarion and Lae'zel are good examples of how to play "evil" characters, as they are maybe not the best people but are still eager and willing to stick around the other party members

They worked to make sure the characters would work as a group, no matter the configuration of the group. The characters needed to be on the same path, even if they don't always agree or walk that path the same way.

Stephen Rooney is very proud of the "climactic" scene of Astarion's story. (AS HE SHOULD BE.) He even had to step away from the computer and have an emotional moment. Me too, man.

He's also "extremely pleased" that there's a point where you can punch Astarion in the face. "Actually, that one might be my favorite part" A MAN OF THE PEOPLE!!

Stephen Rooney's tip on what specific thing you should try out with Astarion: When he's trying to get a "sneaky nibble" at night, you should "probably" let him bite you. Way ahead of you there, sir.

No discussion about Astarion's romance unfortunately, but that's that!

Ok looking through OW replay is actually so nice when you're playing with friends. Seeing their POV of things and when there downtime they looking at your character in game and just (:

Im crying #So me roo and fabuan played a lot the last few days nice but like #We had some intense games and some easy ones that was childplay and seeing those played back #From their pov... So precious. When i play tank and fabian support... Him always looking after me #Roo going around to try to find good angles and capitalize on space... Like yeah... Teamwork #I mean im used to being support 80% of the time so i always have the mindset of... Keep an eye on those two #But seeing them in support roles is fun lik ty for caring for me 😭#And the end of games where things went well... Just each of us turning our cams around to look at the others characters #Like yeah... We do like over the top praising to each other when playing. The standard is when someone plays rein #And makes an good shatter everyone just goes 'ITS FAT. ITS SO FUCKING FAT!'#Its honestly the biggest serotonin boost. Especially when i do well on roles outside of support and i had more than one such game today #Wish i could do a playback with our own commentary too lmao #Its such a silly and small thing but... As someone who never got like any encouragement growing up etc #Being part of an group where we give it freely is so amazingly good....#Anyway ive been playing mei and reaper a lot lately and not always doing great ofc but today i had a better day #And the encouragement from them was so big... I know im not a great dps thats my worst role and im like gold at best #But when i get multiple kills and have an good ult etc and having them go 'omg you're so good Miranda! Yeah youre fragging! Youre carrying!#Makes me so happy like.... Its just a silly game but for my barely exsisting ego its so nice to hear the people i love and thinl are amazin #Telling me im doing well :')

#ive shared this on my main blog #but its still funny to me how my last two - uh - special interest musicians have been two guys that I feel like I #missed the boat for - in my 'going out to see music' life #like Phil Collins was sooooo uncool when I was a teenager #but i bet i would have been so stoked to see him play then if i let myself #and mike was really just outside of my radar and somehow when i probably would have seen him on the same ticket #with bands i was seeing at the time....i was traveling a lot and was never on the same continent for those shows!#what a fucking bummer - im sure i would have fell in love instantly #as it is - when i did start listening to him more in 2004-2005 #i was totally in it with my bf and even then the internet wasn't what it is now #so i had no idea what he looked like!#i just thought - wow this guy really has some killer dynamic vocals and that was that #and i had never gotten into fnm at that point - so the reunion tour was not a big deal to me #but anyways what WAS i listening to back when? what do i listen to now?#i have probably seen waaaay more tmbg shows than is healthy - i was obsessed with john linnell as a teenager #and as mentioned i loved tod a and cop shoot cop and firewater #btw did you fucking know that Jennifer Charles of Lovage was ALSO on Firewaters first album??#and i loved stephin merritt and all his various projects #and skeleton key and funny little nyc bands that came and went #omg and fucking gogol bordello! so many good shows from those guys!!#and then there was belle and sebastian #and aimee mann and moldy peaches and y.a.c.h.t. and all that early-mid 2000s shit #and with that same bf we got more into like les claypool stuff #and dead kennedys and black flag and minutemen - but obvs never went to shows for those #and then by like 2007 i was too busy farming and then i settled down a whole lot when i met my spouse #and i kind of lost music for a while bc really i just love live music in small venues and that just didnt happen for me after 2010 or so #so im thinking maybe i should embrace my midlife crisis and start going to see small shows again?#but i dont even know who to see anymore and i AM feeling too old for this shit?!#lordy lord #anyways - time to write emails for work! /rant
