The difference in headcannons between people who’ve romanced Lae’zel and those who haven’t is so funny to me.

People who didn’t romance her: She’d rather turn into a mindflayer than even think of touching you in a loving way. She lowkey hates you and only ever tops. She will never comfort or soothe you. If you try to dom her, she’ll stab you.

People who romanced her: Yeah, so she’s totally a bottom and has a praise kink. She also thought it was hot when Shadowheart attempted to murder her. Likes cuddling, but will never be little spoon. Melts completely when she’s around you.

Like??? Are we talking about the same character? What do you mean she hates being gentle, she literally asks if the two of you could cuddle in the actual game😭

(Side note: I feel like no one talks about how Lae’zel wants her partner to protect her. Like???? The strong scary gith warrior who’d never admit any weakness wants her lover to protect her. It’s so fucking cute!!!)

I'm on my phone rn and don't have the brain power to arriculate my feelings well rn but to people who say lae'zel is "mean" really puzzle me. like did they play the game? and then half of them turn around and are like "omg astarion is so cute and traumatized." tbh it kind of irks me because lae'zel is such a well written character. yeah she's mean but she's scared. I don't think enough people realize that lae'zel is terrified. she grew up in a society where the weak were killed and where their queen's word was law, no matter what. she wasn't supposed to share the githyanki purification with non-gith, let alone complete strangers. she could be killed for her actions but she still helps you. and when she realizes that vlaakith has been lying and she's now a traitor to her people, she's upset. she's so upset that she doesn't even know what she's feeling. it could be anger, it could be sadness. neither she nor tav can really understand what she's feeling. her life was suddenly flipped into an entirely new perspective and she realizes that she has been lied to since before she could read. and when she figures out that orpheus is still alive, she is willing to do anything to free him and find a new purpose in her life. she doesn't take even a moment to consider what will fulfill herself, she moves on to a new purpose that she can serve.

so yes I like lae'zel and have some strong opinions about her

i think lae'zel has the most normal backstory of the origin characters. she seems unusual because she's a githyanki, but for a githyanki, she's pretty average. she's a warrior who wants to one day ascend and ride a big red dragon of her very own. as far as i can tell, that's like a normal irl human office worker who dreams of being the boss of the office.

So I’m obsessively playing baldurs gate 3 and the only thing I’ve noticed unfortunately for my ass only has two modes: special interest (aka Homestuck) and current hyperfixation (Baldurs Gate 3.

I feel like Lae’zel asking her lover to protect her is severely under talked about in the fandom

The strong githyanki warrior, who will never admit weakness, telling her partner that she wants to be protected. Her going from seeing them as weak and inferior to seeing them as someone who can provide her safety. Seeing them as someone she can be vulnerable and soft around. Someone she can trust to save her when she gets herself in trouble and that she can trust to watch over her when she sleeps.

And they’re probably the first person she’s ever felt this way around. All of her classmates could slit her throat at any sign of weakness, her teachers could beat her for the smallest mistake. But her partner? She can make mistakes around them. She can be vulnerable without fearing a dagger to the heart.

And no one ever talks about it. It’s so good, but it’s completely ignored.
