So I'm making a playlist for a party scene in my fic (sorry y'all but it has to happen for the plot) and I think I have to add a Jackson Wang song, because I simply cannot in good conscience write him into the fic as the party host, but I also can't pass up such a hilarious nod to the unhinged nature of fanfiction as a medium.

2, 7, 8 and 23 for misto
I haven’t talked about him in a while I think :0
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
That he can light up and sparkle, and just the fact that he’s magical cat in general. Like, that’s so cool and I get why Tugger admires his abilities so much for it.
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
People who really add that special something to him, whether it’s having him be mute, immortal or and Cryptid being I love looking at the different interpretations or his magic and character.
8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
Despise is a strong word, I’ll use “not exactly favorable towards” instead since my Mistoffelees takes aren’t even close to warm.
I don’t like when people are really policy about him, (and it’s often by people who don’t even like him…) but I’m like that with any character. Like I understand being upset about mischaracterization but at times it’s literally just as valid of an interpretation that some people happen to dislike. Its a very “not my interpretation = mischaracterized” mindset.
I also don’t like the fandom stereotypes that sort of come when you have him as a fav. Which is why I don’t talk about him a lot here cause I know that’ll happen to me to a certain degree.
23. Favorite picture of this character?
Tion <333

@pocket-size-cthulhu
I'm making a separate post bc I kind of sent myself down a rabbit hole. I wanna clarify that I am a Big Hozier Fan and that most country music is a different lyrical ballpark entirely bc of the nature of the genre. (If I had to describe it I'd say it's more literal and storytelling than the whole, like, in-the-woods poetry thing hozier's got going on.)
Anyway I tried to find some that have the same kind of poetry to them or at least aren't about dirt roads and, like, alcoholism. (this is very hard to do there are so many songs about drowning your sorrows in alcohol. I think maybe that's a bad thing but what do I know about songwriting)
Zach Bryan - Something in the Orange
Ryan Bingham - Wolves
Deana Carter - Strawberry Wine
Chris Stapleton - Tennessee Whiskey
Brooks and Dunn - Neon Moon
Uncle Lucius - Keep The Wolves Away
Juice Newton - Angel of the Morning
Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down
The Band Perry - All Your Life
Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance
Josh Turner - Would You Go With Me
I also have a few that I think just have generally clever lyrics that you probably won't enjoy very much if you don't like country music:
Rodney Atkins - If You're Going Through Hell
Sugarland - It Happens
Jessica Andrews - Who I Am
Billy Currington - People are crazy
Blake Shelton - Honeybee
Tim McGraw - Just to See You Smile

Man, sm black artists were absolutely ahead of the game with their creativity back in the day (Missy Elliot, Kanye, Ludacris, and Busta’s videos and music were always so fun… and during the times when they all came out, most of the artists that were popular were the “I don’t smile EVER and all of my videos take place in the club or fucking Miami for some reason because we all like scarface or whatever tf. No, I’m NOT allowed to have any personality outside of rapping about being a murderer or kingpin and the rappers who smile and like to have fun and dance in their videos are also lame-) like… it was always a breath of fresh air whenever artists like these came out. I love seeing artists, especially hip-hop artists, having fun in their videos and you can always tell that they enjoyed working on the projects a lot. It’s been slowly coming back at least. There’s always like one or two fun rappers every decade… I wish they were more prevalent though. I do at least appreciate artists who put more thought into their videos though. Like, the artistry has been off the charts with sm of the new age artists for sure, which I greatly appreciate!

ur post abt the roommate. wow the audacity of white ppl never fails to amaze me. they rlly only perceive the world through their lens and think if someone hasn’t established themselves in their community they’re a nobody. u had to find out abt kanye west due to a white woman prevalent in ur community? what does that say abt u more than anything? it’s so funny how they rlly think poc success relies on whether they’re relevant enough to white ppl. it makes me understand now why a lot of them will be obsessed with and hype up artists like tyler the creator, since 90% of his audience are white. i experienced this first hand at one of his concerts earlier this year.
It def changes the narrative a lot, but I'm also white and I was really shocked, too. I knew it was possible, but I never really thought someone would be so blatant (and intentional, too) in their cultural deafness and blindness about a topic that's not only easy to understand but also... important?
Like... idek know what to say. The fact that there are (white) people out there who have never had to challenge their worldview, even with different styles of art and music... to the point where distinct history, at the very least, isn't even remotely important? Or considered at all?
Not only does it touch upon what you say about it reflecting poorly on them (which, BIG FACTS) but also... you wonder how that's something to even defend or take pride in. It's pure stupidity... and overall just hard to watch, someone having the nerve to so wrongly but confidently have opinions about a topic they never even bothered to learn about.
And exactly as you say about TTC, too. We were just talking in one of my education classes, about how culture can be alienated at the exact same time society starts to accept it. Like, who is truly benefitting from making something mainstream? Not that this is inherently/automatically bad, per se, but when art, music, food, etc, becomes popular at the expense of the people who made it and who it was made FOR... what's really going on? Definitely nothing mutually beneficial, that's for sure... and ESPECIALLY not if this version is the only thing shared, valued, and understood of the culture.
Like Kanye West at the VMAs vs. the impact of his entire discography, for example.
(though it's funny, I said to my roommate, "haven't you heard about stuff like this in passing?" and she deadass said "no."
What. The. Fuck.)
But yeah. People will really value one famous white lady who makes nothing but mediocre love songs about her own life over popular and meaningful expressions of black experience... and then say they aren't racist.
It is depressing. Lol. But thank you for this! I agree + appreciate the insight SO much.

Been so tempted to comment "shut up" under any of Matty's posts at the min, but I don't dare feel the wrath of the fandom. He do be annoying tho
