it’s about lemony processing his grief over jacques’s death even as he prepares it for public consumption. it’s about lemony describing his own brother’s death. it’s about lemony who has been telling this story through the baudelaire’s eyes having himself bleed into it as he describes the death of his brother. it’s about knowing lemony likely found out the nitty gritty of it through his research. it’s about lemony losing his brother. it’s about lemony losing control of the narrative for just a second.

Kit: In Scooby Doo there is always a hidden door behind book shelves.
Jacques: Can we not base our whole opperation around things that happen in Scobby Doo?
Lemony: Hey, guys, look at this secret door I found hidden behind the book shelves.

The Snicket siblings for your game, to spoil you a bit ;)
Thank you so much for your ask and for feeding my (probably unhealthy) obsession with complicated fictional sibling relationships, Anon! I adore the Snicket Siblings and would be happy to provide a song and a headcanon for them (below the cut)! Thanks for playing my song + headcanon game! 💖
I know I never shut up about this song, but seriously, "Forest Fire" by Brighton is probably the tragic, complicated sibling anthem and it works so incredibly well for the Snickets! The fire imagery, their lost childhoods, the tragedy of it all... I feel like L.S. himself would probably approve given the grief and the guilt he feels in having lost his siblings (and vice versa when Jacques and Kit think that they've lost Lemony). It just fits them so perfectly in a sad but beautiful kind of way.
And how was I to know I'm not strong
I should have saved you
And oh I hope you know that you're my home
But now I'm lost, so lost
Brighton - Forest Fire - YouTube
I also highly recommend, "Burning House" especially the Tyler Sowards and Mass Anthem cover (YouTube link to original Cam version since I couldn't find this cover there). This song was probably a love song in its original intent, but I don't think necessarily has to be taken in a romantic and obviously in this context I mean it in a completely platonic sense. Again there is lots of great, fitting fire imagery and this deep sense of loss, sadness, and bittersweet regret in this song that I really feel is characteristic of the Snicket siblings who, despite their best efforts, were never really given the chance at a normal family life but still care for each other very deeply.
Related Headcanon:
All of the Snicket siblings suffer from recurrent nightmares about fires (among other traumas they've suffered during their time in VFD). When they were particularly young and all together, they used to comfort each other through them, without ever really discussing it. They just quietly knew that their siblings were suffering from the same kinds of nightmares they each were themselves. When they grow up and are forced to go their separate ways, these nightmares always make them think of each other. When Lemony can't sleep from them, he'll fix a cup of Kit's favorite tea. Jacques will try to think of outlandish definitions for words that Lemony might come up with. Kit will practically hear Jacques' voice trying to cheer her up by playing Beethoven with the words in her internal monologue/thoughts. And they'll each hope that wherever their siblings are in the world, that they are happy and safe.

There is something so tragic and tender in the way Lemony describes Kit’s death. “Her mother, and my sister” is just a gut punch bc yeah, she’ll always be his sister to him. Biologically speaking of course bc that doesn’t change when someone dies, but also bc Lemony continues to love her as such

UNRELIABLE NARRATORS; FINALS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eugenides Propaganda:
the entire plot hinges on a detail he lets the reader (and every other character) assume is true. I don't want to spoil it because it's a really fun reveal but he is lying from the first second he appears on the page and you can't trust him to tell the full truth about ANYTHING related to himself and his goals. he mostly does it to keep his advantage and not have other characters be suspicious of him but it's just so fun when you realise he's been lying the whole time
Lemony Snicket Propaganda:
(I would like to preface this by saying that Lemony Snicket is the author's pen name, not a real person, and he exists as a character in-universe as well as being the one in-universe who writes the books!) I'd say he's unreliable because he spent time collecting information about the Baudelaire kids and then... wrote books about it. He has no idea what any of their dialogue actually was, what they were thinking, or even the whole plot, he's just doing research into the incidents and then filling in the gaps to make it a story. What ACTUALLY happened to the Baudelaires? Nobody really knows for sure
While the Baudelaire siblings are in potentially life threatening danger, he will randomly start talking about his own life and just leave the siblings hanging. For example, once Count Olaf was threatening to kill Violet, and then Lemony randomly began talking about how he met the love of his life at a costume party. This man CANNOT stay on topic. Usually when a new character is introduced, Lemony tells us right at the start that they’re either going to die or that the Baudelaire siblings will never see them again. Foreshadowing is not subtle in these books. CONSTANTLY emphasizes how miserable he feels while writing these books. At one point he admits that he had to put his pencil down and go cry for a while because of how sad it made him. Once he filled an entire page with nothing but the word “ever” to emphasize how dangerous it is to put forks in electrical outlets. He also repeated a paragraph about deja vu later on in the book to give the reader deja vu.

STEM SISTER SCUFFLE: ROUND 1 MASHUP 4
Violet Baudelaire (A Series Of Unfortunate Events) vs Ema Skye (Ace Attorney)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Violet Baudelaire is an Inventor!
Ema Skye is a Forensic Scientist!
Why you should vote for each contestant:
Violet Baudelaire:
"She is only fourteen (later fifteen then sixteen as the story goes on) yet here she is straight up going around solving stuff with her (equally as smart) brother with inventions she makes. "Anyone who knew Violet well could tell she was thinking hard, because her long hair was tied up in a ribbon to keep it out of her eyes. Violet had a real knack for inventing and building strange devices, so her brain was often filled with images of pulleys, levers, and gears, and she never wanted to be distracted by something as trivial as her hair.” - Lemony Snicket, The Bad Beginning"
"She makes inventions to get herself and her siblings out of scrapes all the time, she's excellent and we love her"
"Excellent at engineering tools/inventions in crisis situations with whatever resources are lying around. (And she built a telegraph machine at age 7, to give you an idea of what she can do when she *does* have sufficient resources)"
"Violet is a very resourceful young lady with a fantastic mind for inventions out of anything and everything available. We see her building really intricate Rube Goldberg machines in the Baudelaire mansion pre-fire, and afterwards she uses her inventiveness to get the siblings out of all sorts of difficult situations, including breaking a baby out of a cage. She's very cool."
"She's fourteen years old but her ability in mechanical engineering saves her and her siblings from numerous terrible situations. She can work with limited materials to find ways to get out of any scenario and never gives up, even when the odds are against her."
"She’s like 14 years old and can design and make machines out of nothing in a very short amount of time (literally was hurtling towards certain death by falling off a cliff and managed to save herself and her brother)"
Ema Skye:
"I love her a lot and she's very important to me. We get to see her story from being a high school student who's really into science, to becoming a detective, to then finally passing her forensics exam and becoming a forensic scientist like she always wanted. I cosplayed her before"
"Ema has been interested in forensics ever since she was a kid. She's extremely passionate about it. She works very hard and despite bumps along the way she does manage to achieve her dreams/career goal and get into forensic science. She is amazing and I love her enthusiasm and I love her :D When she was like 16 she personally had her own spray bottle(s) of luminol testing fluid, what a dork (in the best way!). Forensic science is practically her whole life. What an inspiration. The first thing on her wiki page is the quote "Yes! Isn't it amazing? Ah, the power of science. It's my life." Bless."
"this girl is so silly. Her favorite thing is luminol. You have an ace attorney pfp you know her. She is my favorite ever. She calls Klavier Gavin a "glimmerous fop" (accurate description). She wears a lab coat over her school uniform. She brings snacks to crime scenes.i love her your honor"
"shes like every enthusiastic autism girl with a science special interest who then gors to college and gets a job and is tired and a mean lesbian but still is a freak about forensics. i love her"
"SHE WORKED SO HARD TO GO INTO FORENSICS. SHE HELPS EVERYONE DO FORENSICS. SHE THEN FAILS WHEN IT COUNTS AND BECOMES BITTER BUT GETS OUT OF THOSE FEELINGS LATER ON. I love her dearly she's so silly and fun when she needs to be, and I think her failure is fascinating but I'm SOOOOO GLAD she was able to become a forensic scientist in the end :)"
"Showed up and gave Apollo random forensics supplies at just the right time. Not sure if this was authorized. Does not Mayte though she can do anything she wants. C’mon man you know her you know why she’s the best you get me right"
"She's fun and good at science and has pink lenses in her glasses and I like her a lot"
"She is so excited to be using her fun little toys to solve crimes."
"She’s a gosh darn professional in a house of fops. Is passionate about her work and was inspired partially by a murder case she was involved in as a witness. She’s really cute and really quirky, and ya girl knows how to snack. She accessorizes really well. I cosplayed as her once and found myself more and more impressed with her style choices as I was putting it together. We stan a fashionable yet practical STEM queen."
"she is literally everythingggg to me. she has wanted to be a forensic scientist since she was 16 y/o and introduces forensic investigation mechanics to the series like luminol and dusting for fingerprints. when she does not get her dream job, she becomes depressed and bitter, only cheering up when she talks about forensic science. later on, when she attains the job, she is much happier! science is her entire life and her career and she is tremendously autistic about it. also she's such a girlboss i love her <3 ema must go through btw. she is the ultimate woman in stem"
"Ema Skye has been interested in forensics for many years due to case that occurred when she was younger. Even though she didn't pass the test to become one at first she had still continued trying till she made it. She always lights up at the mention of anything revolving sciene. She gets so happy when she's able to work with her forensic tools and investigate the crime scene <33"
"Teaches Phoenix wright about forensics"
"she wears a cool lab coat and I don't really know what else to put here but she's neat"
"she is so autistic about forensic science. she goes against the police rules to take fingerprints. she infodumps to anyone who will listen about forensic science. ema is so special to me and I love her very much"
"Ema is a girlboss! She started using forensics and scientific investigation to help solve murders when she was just 15 years old. she autistic and bisexual bc I say so :)"
"Literally the only character in universe that uses hard evidence in trials."
"The skyentific detective…."
"Its literally her personality ok. Just listen to her theme(s). I just love her"
"She is literally me <33 I love her. I need to see her grow up happy and healthy and i need to tell my friends and family about her."
"Wants to be a scientific investigator and solve crimes scientifically, forced to be a cop. Goes from teen with a weird hobby to reluctant cop to everything she ever wanted and I am so proud"
"She’s just a little weirdo. And she keeps trying to be a forensic scientist, but she has to finish high school first. She solved the murder her sister was accused of "
"Forensic science fascinates her. She sure is a woman jn stem. I am sorry I am very tired i dn what to write"
"I need to actually finish AA but it’s her. You probably have more submissions with better reasoning but I like her vibes from what I did play."
"She's got all sorts of cool gadgets which utilize the DS touchscreen"

Hi! 👋 Could you please do 20 and 23 for the Quagmire triplets for the character ask game? :)
Hi Ven ! Sure !!
20 (Weird headcanon)
Quigley
i have literally SO many headcanons for Quigley but I'll try and hold back and only share a few. (I'll refer to Quigley with they pronouns because that is my headcanon !)
if they had been raised in the 2000s, would absolutely have thomas the tank engine or cars bedsheets. so embarrassing
couldn't take serious photos, always had to be pulling a face or doing bunny ears or something
tried to pierce their ears with a safety pin and lemon (did not go well.)
disastrous handwriting. Like incomprehensible.
Isadora
gay awakening was Veronia Lake in I Married A Witch (dir. René Clair)
went through a goth phase (after discovering Mary Shelley and Edgar Allen Poe) where she attempted to dye all of her clothes black. They came out brown.
Duncan
tried to pull a prank on Carmelita Spats by balancing a bucket of water on a doorframe and have her walk through, getting drenched. Forgot to let himself out of the room first and drenched himself.
obsessed with lava lamps
23 (Future headcanon)
Quigley
felt so betrayed by Jacques leaving, that they completely turned away from VFD. Lost a lot of their love for cartography and it took a long time for it to come back. They began to prefer sketching landscapes and people they loved.
discovered David Bowie (this depends on your theory of when ASOUE is set) and he changed their life. Became obsessed with Ziggy Stardust and embraced gender fluidity through makeup, piercings, shiny clothes, etc. learnt to love themself :)
finally got that ear piercing they had botched when they were younger.
actually became really good friends with Fiona. She taught them that it was okay to view the world with more criticism. They got along and were actually really similar. Bickered a lot.
moved to a big city with Duncan and Isadora and got really into the world of music, art, freedom, self-expression. They probably joined a band at some point, no doubt.
Isadora
in the big city, joined a sapphic society and made friends who loved poetry (and girls).
got her poetry published in the paper on multiple occasions, but anonymously. She wanted to spread the beauty of poetry without getting attention for it.
opened up to the idea of writing prose too, and learnt that she was really talented in that area, too, joining writing societies and book clubs and learning so much more about literature. it gave her the opportunity to express herself in more ways than one.
her and Klaus (if reunited) absolutely became an unstoppable best friend duo. They were practically unseperable, and he was in a lot of the same book clubs with her. He worked at one of their local libraries and let her sneak in the back to write in the staff room while he ate his lunch or read on his break.
Duncan
aside from writing journalism, he actually got really into photojournalism. He loved the peace of the dark room and the process of developing photos. He got into the habit of photographing his friends and siblings to immortalise them and kept his favourite pictures in his shirt pocket.
got an internship at a newspaper (NOT the daily punctillio, lol) and had a niche in foreign correspondence, (with the rise in use of the telephone) and he made so many connections across the world. Learning about so many cultures gave him a sense of freedom after feeling so trapped post the death of his parents.
and a dunklaus headcanon, since I can't hold back: after he and Klaus started dating, he would very occasionally sneak coded messages into the newspaper, just sappy stuff saying he missed him and hoped he was having a great day :)
interviewed Lemony Snicket once without knowing it was him.
This was so much fun !! Thanks so much for asking :)

Hi! 👋 What are some of your favourite asoue fics/fics you recommend? :)
I'm glad you ask :D!
Awhile back, I made this post awhile back of fanfictions from the old days of the ASOUE Fandom (think Fanfiction Net days). All of them my favorites, but if I have to just link the fics I really recommend you to read first, it would be Fernald's Folly and Hypothetical Situation. Very good fics to see the siblings dynamic/relationship of Fernald and Fiona, and Jacques and Lemony Snicket. I'm a sucker for siblings content, and these two fics deliver, especially the latter.
For fics I recommend on AO3, anything in my bookmarks is a good read! But again, if I have to just link the fics I really recommend you to read, it's On Coffee, Nightmares, and Reasons to Live by gellavonhamster (who also has a tumblr), The Ones that Slipped Away by maybesomeotherday, unofficial chaperone by tangentially (who has a tumblr, with her asoue/atwq sideblog being beatricebidelaire), and the newest one I just read awhile back, How many mirrors did you have to crack for luck like that? by Socks_2789.
On Coffee, Nightmares, and Reasons to Live is a good fic focusing on Hector and Captain Widdershins after they and the Quagmires and Fernald and Fiona survived the Great Unknown. Hector is my favorite adult/SBG character. Widdershins not so much but I am fascinated by the guy. This fic is my favorites of the favorites due to how gellavonhamster writes them in a post-canon life, as well as how they interact with one another (I love it when two people with opposite personalities clash with one another).
The One that Slipped Away is actually part of a series by maybesomeotherday for Angstpril 2022, and honestly speaking, the fics they wrote for Angstpril 2022 are all great (read them if you have a chance. I think you'll find a few favorites of your own). But this fic stands for me to bookmark because on how it focuses on Sunny, and something fandom discuss about her: does Sunny loses her memories of the unfortunate events?
unofficial chaperone is legit a good fic for anyone who loves the Jacques Snicket and Quigley Quagmire not quite chaperone-apprenticeship relationship that is mention in TSS. And if you want good content of their relationship, I highly recommend looking through the 'jacques quigley pseudo apprenticeship tag' on beatricebidelaire's blog; a very good tag to fill that craving.
How many mirrors did you have to crack for luck like that? is honestly speaking my favorite Quiglet fanfic at the moment right now. I won't explain more, because I will likely spoil the whole thing. It's an experience that you need go through beginning to end.
I hope you have some very fun reading, anon!

I need Lemony Snicket and Sunny Baudelaire interactions. She would probably think he is the most pretentious git to ever exist but just imagine. A tired Lemony dealing with little snarky Sunny the whole day and then reading her a bedtime story or probably some old classic to bed when she's tired and his word meanings in between would actually make her understand better and his deep voice would lull her to sleep and in that moment she allows herself to actually be a child who hurts for her lost parents the memories she never got to make, who craves for their love and found it instead in her two siblings, a herpetologist, captain hook and this weird writer/pseudo detective who's her mother's ex-boyfriend.
OH MY GOD IMAGINE

Books for Good Omens fans!
Are you emotionally scarred by the ending of season 2? Is the wait for season 3 going to be excruciating for you? Are you looking for something that’ll fill those voids? Look no further, Good Omens fan! I have some media for you to consume!
The Tea Dragon Series, starting with The Tea Dragon Society, by K. O’Neil
71 pages (first book)
Contains: tea magic!; a cute sapphic romance; queer rep all around :)
If you like Good Omens because of how fluffy it can be (though that season finale was not fluffy), I highly recommend this series! The Tea Dragon Society is a comic book trilogy following Greta, who is swept into the world of caring for tea dragons, tiny little creatures that grow tea leaves on their foreheads.
As is the case with Good Omens, this trilogy includes a lot of queer representation. It’s written by a non-binary author, K. O’Neil, who introduces us to queer characters of all identities. Also much like Good Omens, there is no discussion of homophobia or transphobia. There’s also a sapphic romance between Greta and her love interest, which is very sweet! This is perfect if you need a pick-me-up after season 2, and if the fluffier aspects of Good Omens are your favorites!
The Greenhollow Duology, starting with a Silver In The Wood, by Emily Tesh
112 pages (first book)
Contains: the fae!!; enchanted woods; middle-aged gay people!!
If what brings you joy in Good Omens is it’s middle-aged leads, I give you Silver in the Wood, and its companion Drowned Country. These two stories are quite episodic – much like Crowley and Aziraphale’s little adventures – and feature a pair of middle-aged men who fall in love against the backdrop of supernatural things afoot.
Apart from representing the older portion of the queer community, The Greenhollow Duology is also brilliantly written and very atmospheric. It will place you inside the cottage where most of the action happens, and you will be able to feel the magic in the air. Both of the books are novellas, and so are quite short reads you can enjoy whenever!
A Series of Unfortunate Events, starting with The Bad Beginning, by Lemony Snicket
176 pages (first book)
Contains: adults that are incompetent; children that are very competent; quirky writing!
If your favorite aspect of Good Omens is its quirkiness, I give you: A Series of Unfortunate Events! This middle-grade series follows a trio of siblings as they are passed from distant relative to distant relative after their parents’ mysterious death, all the while being chased by the evil Count Olaf.
This series reminds me of Good Omens for its tongue-in-cheek humor. Mr. Snicket is a master at metatextual comedy, that is, making jokes about the text itself. I’ve always had a lot of fun reading his writing! A TV show adaptation of this series has been made, and it’s on Netflix, but I haven’t watched it all the way through and can’t speak to how good it is, but it’s worth a shot if you’re feeling like watching something! Though I have to warn you: no gay people here :(
A Master of Djinn, by P. Djeli Clark
438 pages
Contains: alternate history; a steampunk Cairo; muslim rep!!
A Master of Djinn is for those among you who want to see gay people save the world. I give you: gay people saving the world. This one follows Agent Fatma of the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments and Supernatural Entities in an alternate, steampunk-y Cairo, where magic was brought to life by mage Al-Jahiz, many years ago. Fatma is faced with a mysterious murder and must join forces with her lover Siti to find out what happened – except it’s waaay more complicated than it seems…
I think this reminds me of Good Omens the most because there’s a very cool dynamic between Siti and Fatma. Much like Crowley and Aziraphale, they have opposing views on a lot of things, religion for instance, and must reconcile that with their love for one another. They’re also very much ride-or-die for each other, and go on many supernatural adventures together, just like our favorite couple in Good Omens! It also features elements of fantasy being woven into a “normal” world, in this case even affecting history as we know it, to build an alternate reality!
But, be warned: there is discussion of homophobia and sexism in this book!
This is part of larger universe, namely the Dead Djinn Universe, which includes two other novellas. You can read them in this order, or choose to start with A Master of Djinn. The novel is self-contained and will explain everything you need to know!
The Mimicking of Known Successes, by Malka Older
169 pages
Contains: a murder mystery; a second chance romance; humans living on one of Jupiter’s moons!
Another one for gay people who just like a nice couple they can follow around as they unravel some intrigue, and who were desperately infatuated with “detective Aziraphale”: The Mimicking of Known Successes is a Sherlock Holmes-like story following Pleiti and Mossa, a couple of ex-girlfriends whose paths cross again when Mossa begins investigating a mysterious murder. This one takes place on a human colony in one of Jupiter’s moons, but, apart from that, is not very hard sci-fi. There’s not really any science-y bits that I can remember. Mostly, it’s just a murder mystery, but set in space!
It’s perfect for Good Omens fans who love following a couple with a long history. Not to mention, it also has an almost grumpy/sunshine dynamic that kinda reminds me of Crowley and Aziraphale. And since I know most of us Good Omens fans were once deep in the Sherlock trenches, I thought I’d add this one to cure your heart’s many, many wounds (oh, Steven Moffatt… One day, one day you will pay…)
This is not currently part of a series, but a second novella,  The Imposition of Unnecessary Obstacles, will be published in 2024.
That’s all I got, everyone! If you’d like some more books that, just like Good Omens, don’t delve into homophobia or transphobia, I have a whole list of books that fit the bill! :)

do quigley or duncan or their sister die? I’m on season 1 but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a clip anywhere of quigley and duncan together 😢
While the books leave it ambiguous, I do believe there is a definitive answer. Major spoilers for S3/all 13 books under the cut.
In the series!canon, Quigley reunites with his siblings on the SSHAM, and the secret code in The Incomplete History references them reuniting with the Baudelaires on Briny Beach.
In the book!canon, well... I have an unpopular opinion on this one; I believe that most, if not all of the members of the Queequeg crash survived. And this isn't just because I love the Quagmires and Fiona... I have evidence!
You see, we know that most of Snicket's knowledge of the Baudelaires' thoughts, feelings and situations were taken from their island commonplace book - A Series of Unfortunate Events- as he mentions them writing in the book. However, they could not write information they were not privy to, and all they knew about the Queequeg crash was that Kit suspected everyone was eaten by the Great Unknown.
However, in an earlier portion of The End, when the Baudelaires are traveling to the arboretum, Snicket says that their friends (the Quagmires, Fiona probably) were "in circumstances just as dark although quite a bit damper than" theirs. "Just as dark" does not qualify death at the moment, as the Baudelaires are simply under a moral quandary and the Medusoid Mycelium has not been released yet. As well as this, they would not know if their friends were in a "damp" situation, just a "dark" one. And who would know better what situation they were in at that time than the Quagmires themselves?
As such, Snicket likely knows something we don't. As well as this, we know Kit's story doesn't always align with the truth- she claims all three Widdershins were on the Queequeg when it crashed, however Snicket stated in The Penultimate Peril that Fernald was fighting the Quagmires aboard the ship (not necessarily implicating Fernald in villainy, it's likely Duncan and Isadora just saw him and heard the kill bill sirens).
Why would he leave their fate ambiguous? Well, considering several villains survived the Hotel Denouement, and many of them are stated to have something against the Quagmires (the Woman and Man send their eagles to sink the SSHAM home, and Esmé was in charge of their estate and helped Olaf capture them), it's likely the Quagmires want to stay as under their enemies' radar as possible.
Adding to this, they could be trying to stay off the radar of VFD itself; VFD does not have a crystal-clear reputation, and in fact seems to have a dangerous cult-like atmosphere (best description here, but also see here, here, here). And seeing as Fernald is very disillusioned with the organization, now an enemy of both sides, he would definitely not want to be seen by them; adding to this Fiona's loyalty to him and the beginnings of her break with the organization in The Grim Grotto, she'd probably want to lay low as well.
Duncan and Isadora also, probably, very against VFD. They found out something about it while researching, and after being captured by Olaf and the White-Faced Women, they shout to the Baudelaires that they learned about something terrible- which they immediately follow up by shouting about VFD. And considering how useless the volunteers were in rescuing them, and how they spent a lot of time with Hector, who seems to have either left the organization or be hiding from them, they almost definitely do not have a good view of it. Even though Quigley was p much successfully inducted by Jacques, he's not going to want to leave his siblings so soon after their reunion.
All that to say, at the very least, everyone but Widdershins has good reasons to want VFD to leave them alone. So throwing out that they're alive would be dangerous for them, especially if Snicket mentioned they'd contacted him. So he likely gave some clues and left it ambiguous so as to not completely lie.
As to how they survived? I've linked to @snicketsleuth a lot but they have a pretty good idea...
tl;dr the Queequeg and SSHAMH crews are probably alive!

woevember is coming!
what is it?
woevember is an asoue fanwork event week, that will take place from november 13th through november 19th, 2022. each day of that week is dedicated to a different group of characters from a series of unfortunate events and all the wrong questions.
what do i do?
the character groups will be revealed now, so everyone has time to make something. between now and the week of november 13th, you’ll create fanworks about the characters, and then post it on the corresponding day during november 13th - 19th!
don’t forget to tag this tumblr (asouefanworkevent) in the post so i can find it and reblog it, and tag the post with #woevember !
what do you mean by fanwork?
everything! fanfic and fanart are of course allowed, but also edits, gifs, analysis posts, even just headcanons!! super short fics!! your sketchiest drawings!! i want people to be encouraged to and be able to create even something small that didn’t exist before for the snicketverse, and share it with other people!
are there any rules?
to keep the event open and comfortable for everyone, no explicit content. also, this should go without saying, but in case it doesn’t, sibling romance and age gaps are not allowed and will not be tolerated.
do i have to make something for every day?
only if you want to! feel free to just make something for one day if you want :) the point of having a different character group for each day is so everyone’s favorite character (or a character you like or find interesting) will hopefully come up at some point, so everyone’s covered, and you can at least make something for one of the days.
what are the prompts?
i tried to get a good mix of characters we already love a lot, and characters who you might not have thought about before!
november 13th – sugar bowl gen siblings
the best siblings. the worst siblings. they’re going through a lot, at all times. "the schism has turned many brothers into enemies."
character options include: snickets, denouements, anwhistles, calibans, sebalds
november 14th – firestarters
what makes a “firestarter”? (besides needing to find seven broad categories in which to fit many, many characters.)
character options include: olaf, esme, the bald man, fernald, the henchperson, the white-faced women, the man with a beard but no hair, the woman with hair but no beard (also related characters, like ernest, georgina, olivia)
november 15th – the city
there is so much in The City! and so much with a deep vfd history, that every aspect of the city must’ve crossed paths with vfd or the baudelaire’s story at some point, in some way.
character options include: jerome, eleanora, geraldine, esme squalor’s fanclub, honestly anyone you would like to stick in a specifically City location
location options include: the punctilio, the banking district, the herpetological society, the hemlock tearoom and stationery shop, the taxi, the opera, the fountain of victorious finance, 667 dark avenue, veblen hall, orion observatory
november 16th – unseen characters
there’s plenty of characters we hear about in the series, but never actually really see. give us your takes on them!
character options include: lemony's editor, the snicket parents, olaf's parents, haruki, the baudelaire's uncle elwyn, madame dilustro, gina sue, whoever beatrice and bertrand invited to their dinner parties besides mr. poe, moxie's mother, ellington's mother, violet's friend ben, lemony's friend playing the sonata on the pipe organ in the cathedral of the alleged virgin
november 17th – stain’d-by-the-sea
what becomes of stain’d-by-the-sea and all the people still living there, after lemony leaves? what happens to wade academy? what happens to ellington?
character options include: moxie, pip, squeak, jake, cleo, kellar, ornette, lizzie, ellington, prosper lost, stew, the mitchums, the talkie brothers, any character from 13SI (theodora can also be included here)
november 18th – the unfortunate generation
what are they up to, post-canon? or what were they up to, pre-canon?
character options include: violet, klaus, sunny, duncan, isadora, quigley, fiona, carmelita, friday, the second beatrice
november 19th – free space!
is there a character you want to make something for that didn’t necessarily fit in these categories? (and my deepest apologies for who didn’t. the duchess? miranda? ishmael? the islanders? widdershins? hector? the village of fowl devotees? jacquelyn? larry? phil? beatrice and bertrand, technically????) is there a character you wanted to do but you didn’t like the group they were in? (you’d rather talk about esme outside of her relation to the firestarters?) do you want to do something centered on a ship? (lemony/beatrice/bertrand? dewey/bertrand? kit/beatrice? violet/isadora? jacques/jerome? olivia/jacques? beatrice/bertrand? monty/gustav? sally/r?) put it here!
can i do ships for other days?
you absolutely can! i’m just giving options in the free space.
can i include other characters that aren’t a part of the group set for each day?
yes, as long as the major focus of the work is still on the designated group! for example, for sugar bowl gen siblings, you could definitely make something about, say, beatrice interacting with the snicket siblings, as long as the focus of the work is still on the snicket siblings. or, for stain’d-by-the-sea, you could definitely write about those characters interacting with vfd characters, or the unfortunate gen, or even mr. poe, as long as the focus of the work is still on the stain’d-by-the-sea characters.
if you have any questions about anything, feel free to drop me an ask or a message!
happy creating and i hope to see lots of you november 13th - 19th!!

I really love your theories about Beatrice surviving the Baudelaire fire and Lemony being the biological father of all 3 Baudelaire siblings rather than just Violet. I never considered that interpretation of the events described in the story related to Lemony and Beatrice, but I think it's very interesting to think about, because I feel like it adds a lot of layers to Lemony's motivation for writing the books. What I want to ask is, why do you think Lemony never tried to reach out to the Baudelaires after he was finished writing the books (other than the fact that he lost track of where they were and that he might have had a reason to believe they died since their boat, The Beatrice, was destroyed)? I see it as his guilt for being partially responsible for what the Baudelaires had to go through and his decision that they would be better off not knowing that he was actually their father (maybe also a bit of guilt related to Bertrand?)
Great questions. I think it's important to highlight something about this in TBBRE. "Tomorrow afternoon, the semi-retired amateur geologist has promised to put me in touch with current members of the F.F.P. so I can determine if there is any truth to the rumor that Violet Baudelaire came into contact with them on her way to Briny Beach for the third time. Interested parties might turn to Book the Thirteenth, assuming I live to write such a book." Lemony actually looked for more information about the Baudelaires. He actually tried to follow their trail. Everything indicates that either he couldn't do it, or he thought it was better to pretend he couldn't do it. I would bet on the second case.
There is a picture of the boat Beatrice, which is apparently a "photograph" of where the boat sank. If it is a photograph, there is strong evidence of manipulation of the location to make it appear as if the Baudelaires had died.
Tumblr media
Notice Violet's bow. What are the chances that this bow came out of her hair (note the bow is in a knot, so it was tied) and landed delicately in a barrel? Where did that barrel come from in the first place? Klaus' glasses: what are the chances that the glasses came off Claus's face and landed on a string? And finally, Sunny's kitchen appliance: why would it be tied with a rope? And what are the chances that this rope, on its own, made several turns around a piece of wood? Fourth evidence: seagulls: they are birds typical of regions close to the beach, not deep waters. For me, this scenario was set up to fake the death of the Baudelaires.
After that, in times another significant image:
Tumblr media
Both images are on TBL posters. From what is written in TBL, I can guarantee that this cave is a hideout for Lemony. Note that Lemony Snicket found that scene, and took photographs of strange features and was studying them. He must have come to the same conclusion as me: the Baudelaires faked their own deaths. I think when he realized this, he stopped publishing the books. But that doesn't mean he actually gave up on finding them.

UNRELIABLE NARRATORS; SEMI FINALS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marvin propaganda:
this bitch is crazy you can't trust a thing she says!!!! but um seriously he is neurotic and while recounting his childhood everything is wack and doesn't make sense and ummm. Idk the man lies he withholds information (such as names of main characters he deems unworthy or important details) he makes he presents his fantasies like actual canon events (how marvin eats his breakfast, rape of ms goldberg) he tries to convince himself and therefore us that he's straight ummm he's just a little freak and an attention whore and a liar and a fugly slut and i love him.
