It's too late, I'm talking about The Canary Curse again.
Jimmy's curse is contagious. And it isn't just Martyn.
Every single season one of Jimmy's team mates, in fact, Jimmy's Closest team mate, has died early.
Obviously, in secret life Jimmy's teamed with Martyn, whose somehow doing Worse than him. First yellow, first red, loosing hearts left and right , worse. Absolutely wet catified.
Keep in mind, this is the same man that won Brutally last season. He's gotten into the top four as many times as Scott, whose almost comically competent at the game. Second he has a season teamed with Jimmy? In place to be the first perma-death-before-Jimmy's ever.
Limited Life Jimmy has two team mates. Grian and Joel. Now, Grian did decently but he wasn't the closest to Jimmy. (In fact he caused his death multiple times). That was Joel.
Joel who teamed with Jimmy first, Joel who was completely dedicated to the bad boys, Joel who was going to sacrifice himself. That Joel, who went out third, in the same episode as Jimmy, just blocks from where he fell.
Double life hardly counts right? I mean, obviously Jimmy dies and then his soulmate dies right? Except... isn't it interesting that Tango has his soul tied to Jimmy and immediately goes yellow? First yellow of the server in fact.
Last Life Jimmy spends a portion of the game isolated, when he isn't he's with a team of five. A very unstable team of five. By the end of the season Jimmy's closest ally is Mumbo, the man he's running around as a red life with causing trouble. The man he quite literally gets Killed with, seconds from each other, by the same man.
Finally, third life, the wrench. After all, Jimmy's teamed with Scott, as we said before, Comically good at the game. The man has gotten into top four, Every Single Season- except third life.
Third life Scott doesn't do quite as well for himself. Not poorly, but average. This, from the man who needed to be killed multiple times in limited life to make it a fair fight? Something's up. Something like being married to the canary, the one doomed to die first.
(wonder if Jimmy's noticed yet-)

Secret Life finale highlights for me:
- "My strategy: Kill Skizz and Tango. Will happen at some point... Or, just maim them and watch them die in a corner." - Scar
- Scott on Grian's loyalty: "I have never seen a man drop a pair of sunglasses faster in my life [than last season after Joel died]."
- I think I reblogged someone's speculation weeks ago that at the dawn of final session, everyone's task book would just say "Win Secret Life." Congrats to them for Apollo's gift of prophecy.
- Martyn's beat of pause before saying to Joel "Welcome to the Out of Context video."
- At the start of the season, Etho said Joel was the first one he wanted to kill because "He's cheeky." When Joel is asked who he wants to kill, he says "Etho." Glad you're enjoying your rivalry, boys, smh...
- Joel, once again giving into his Shrek origins, watching Bdubs' wool globe go up in flames and chirping "My world's on fire; how 'bout yours?"
- Tango does not break his "pathetic death" curse. Just blipped out of existence. Love that for him.
- Spitting, crying... BigB panics and flees into his creepy backrooms for safety. Immediately vanishes into the tunnel maze. Scar pursues and skids to a halt because he hasn't seen it yet and is thoroughly creeped out.
- Scar coming up to surface and trying to describe how BigB disappeared. Martyn looks down at where they're standing and is just like "Oh, that's the backrooms." Mental image of Scar as that meme that goes "The. what."
- Scar describing BigB as a sneaky squirrel. "Squirrel" was the name of BigB's horse in Double Life.
- Joel's anxiety about entering a Nether portal on the final episode, specifically because of how he and Etho perma-died in Double Life
- Whatever was going on with Martyn flinging ender pearls up the ladder seconds before he died
- Additionally, people in the background commenting that they think Martyn's teamed up with Cleo and the only reason he was near them was an attempt to bear down and kill them
- Scar to Bdubs, watching Cleo and Etho from a distance: "Look at this- Mom and Dad are bringing their new ugly stepson to meet us, Bdubs." /camera pans to the warden chasing them
- Bdubs tells Scar that Cleo said he was her favorite son and Scar IMMEDIATELY, without responding or even waiting for Bdubs to finish his sentence, jumps a wall and books it to Cleo to confirm... Mental image of him swinging dramatically over it with one hand, his shawl billowing behind him
- Scar chases Cleo while they're both being pursued by a warden, asking her if he's her favorite son. Doesn't let up until she assures him she "just said it to keep Bdubs happy." what is wrong with the Clocker family.
- Joel somehow pulled off a beautiful PVP kill on Skizz despite having only 2.5 hearts
- In earlier episodes, Joel had people say "The florist sends his regards" on his behalf before striking. Before killing Skizz, he says "Scar sends his regards" since Scar really wanted to kill Skizz but bequeathed the fight to Joel instead.
- Scar trotting up to Etho and Cleo, who are watching him from a cliff, and announcing "I am not up to anything nefarious!"
- Scar's weird spiky wall design is really pretty
- slkdjfskldjfsklj?!?!?!? I had a bullet point on this list that said "Honorable non-finale mention to Scar getting both the Green and Yellow kill on Etho this season" but now I see I need to correct that:
- Shout-out to Scar killing Etho - in Etho's front yard - THREE TIMES this season. Etho rushing back to his base, tripping over his feet and saying "I'm going home, everybody- I'm dying at my home-"
- Scott to Scar: "I went down to BigB - to get him - and I see what you mean; he does just talk his way out of things so you feel bad; you just leave him." / Scar: "That's why you don't let him speak. You just inner monologue. You start talking about Star Wars so you can't hear his charms."
- As Scar drives his sword into Cleo, he says "Good-bye, Mom- This is for you telling Bdubs [he's your] favorite." Geez, dude. Scar killed both his parents; this family is a mess. Bonus points for Joel fumbling in the background like "Oh my gosh- Scar, you savage-"
- I watched multiple POVs until I was caught up to the standoff between Gem & The Scotts vs. The Mounders... So picking up from there with Scar's POV b/c his is the one I randomly started with today: I love how Joel basically went "I am once again throwing caution to the wind and charging into battle with a murderous Red rage in my eyes and no one behind me" like he ALWAYS does.
- Bdubs and Scar decide to back him up... Amazing.
- Scar has gotten 4 kills (Tango, Etho, Cleo, Impulse) and he was super close to getting BigB as well before Scott sniped the kill. Geez... The man is vicious today. During Limited Life, Grian made a comment that went something like "Of course Scar is only destructive / successful when I'm not on his team" and honestly? Yeah...
- Pearl begging Scar to kill her- Pearl warning Scar that if she perma-kills Gem, she'll go up 10 hearts- Scar refusing, insisting that he doesn't want to turn on her because it feels lame...
- Scar got Gem, he got Gem... GeminiSlay is DOWN!
- SCAR SWEEP WITH THE BOW!!
Oh my goodness, I saw his episode title ("Can Villain Scar Win?") and the words that went through my head were "Welp, that's a spoiler that he's dead." I see I was wrong.
GG, SCAR WIN!!! Man who wanted so desperately to have friends, only to trip and fail time and time again... GoodTimesWithVictor!!
My heart, Scar letting that zombie knock him down to half a heart... playing up like he didn't just watch the lightning bolt mark Pearl's demise. He wanders, calling out to Pearl, asking where she went... quietly giggling and muttering to himself as that zombie pushes at him... GG, Scar. GG.
My goodness, is this the only time we haven't seen the winner die in their perspective? Scar slams that success button for winning the game, gets 5 hearts, turns back, and that's it... That's the game. End scene.
What a LAD!!

canary curse things. thinking about canary curse things
i'm hesitant to say the canary curse has been broken—what, no, of course it has been, jimmy died second instead of first, and the canary curse is all about dying first— okay hear me out i swear i make sense
my thought is that patterns can change. patterns aren't always static ones. just because something new happened this time around doesn't mean the pattern's been broken, it may have just changed its rules a bit.
joel had a pattern of having no true allies up until double or limited life, where it instead became a pattern of being isolated, for example
now, before we get into the canary curse specifically, let's talk about some other patterns
scott and martyn tend to drag themselves as well as their allies up the leaderboard. they both tend to outlive their allies. grian tends to kill his allies. ...i feel like i should put more here but that's all i can think of right now
now, the way i see it, is scott, martyn, and jimmy in particular all have some sort of weight to them. positive meaning they drag themselves and their allies up the leaderboard, negative meaning the opposite. scott and martyn have a positive weight, whereas jimmy has a negative one.
what i think's happened here is that martyn and jimmy's weights have tugged on each other, and as a result, martyn turned yellow and red first instead of much later on, and jimmy died second instead of first.
jimmy's pull is strong, i think, and so he tends to die first every time. just because he tends to die first every time doesn't make that a rule, though - it just makes it a pattern, one that's been broken. the pattern that hasn't been broken, though, is jimmy being one of the earliest to die, and jimmy dragging his allies down the leaderboard with him.
jimmy died first in 3rd life, and dragged scott down to 10th, and scott finally turned yellow right before jimmy died. jimmy died first in last life, and dragged mumbo down with him, and they were a similar color pretty much the whole time. jimmy died first in double life, and dragged tango down with him. jimmy died first in limited life, and joel died quickly after. jimmy died second in secret life, and dragged martyn's color down with him.
martyn, though, doesn't die yet, because of his positive weight. he's often tugged further up the leaderboard, and so while jimmy may drag his color down and martyn ends up first yellow and red, martyn still manages to stay afloat.
martyn is stubborn is the thing, lmao. he stays alive out of spite and just because he wants to, and so he does, and he makes sure he does. now that the stakes are higher and one wrong move could mean losing everything, he's being a lot more careful than he was earlier on.
and let me just reiterate for a second - he's stubborn. once he's got an idea, he's locked onto that idea until he gets it done or literally can't anymore. martyn will drive himself up the wall before he gives up on something and even then he'll need convincing or more likely a distraction. he didn't give up on ren in third life til he died and couldn't do anything anymore. he didn't give up on trying to kill scott in last life til he died and couldn't do anything anymore. he didn't give up on getting a diamond chestplate in secret life until he got it despite how much it cost him in the end. outside the life series, even, i'm rewatching rats right now- martyn will try to climb a wall over and over and over until he gets it or something gets in the way. he'll be texturing a model and complain to chat about how painful it is and still decide to spend the next hour and a half getting the damn thing done even though he should've logged off for bedtime 2 hours ago. (yes martyn i am calling you out, enjoy)
and so martyn doesn't die! he's yellow first, he's red first, and all other red names die, but martyn doesn't. because yeah, maybe he's impulsive, but he's in this for himself and himself alone and there's no way in hell he's dealing with a wither and a warden that's just killed three people. (he did try and steal the kill though. martyn do you remember what happened last time you tried to steal the kill, you fell into the void and died)
jimmy isn't as stubborn. jimmy's a lot more forgiving, a lot more lenient, and as much as he's being more aggressive this season, he's reckless about it and impulsive and his reputation isn't helping him here.
jimmy lets things happen to him. as upset as he might act about it, he never actually does anything about it, and it gets him killed. he's afraid to break the rules, he's afraid to make people uncomfortable or upset or hurt, he starts genuinely tearing up at the thought of pulling a bait and switch on skizz, and that's the kind of thing martyn does on a daily basis lmao
jimmy is forgiving and passive, martyn and scott don't forget so easily and aren't afraid to make people upset, grian's somewhere in between.

Life Series Scarring Headcanons: Part 5
The final installment!
If you haven't yet, check out Part 1 for a full explanation and context
This one covers the last three players, Solidarity Gaming, TangoTek, and ZombieCleo
Jimmy Solidarity
Tumblr media
Like the other Assigned Birb Man, fall damage is arguably his nemesis
Third Life: Somewhere along the way it became fanon that that arrow from Skizz caught him in the throat and when I decided I was sticking with that I did not yet realize what that would mean for his death scars and the pattern thereof.
Last Life: He died to fall damage trying to escape from Grian (after accidentally initiating combat by jokingly hitting him with a baked potato) He fell from the roof of Mumbo's house down into a space by some wooden stairs, and with the angle it looked like he would have hit the side of his head on the edge of the stairs. So that's what he did :)
Double Life: He was killed by an enderman. In Everen's animatic he is basically strangled by it, and Mr. Gaming blue-screened because, as he said, that is his visualization on how that went down so. Canon.
Limited Life: Fall damage again, on the other side of his head this time, he landed on rock after falling/being pushed off of/whichever version you prefer Skynet. RIP canary man. Better luck in Season 5? (I kind of don't want him to have better luck tbh. The narrative consistency is very satisfying.)
The other half of Team Rancher
Tango of the Tek Variety
Tumblr media
Squeaky cartoon man is right up there with Scott on the "someone please help him" front tbh. Cringefail Flower Ranchers Hours apparently.
Third Life: He died at the battle of Dogwarts to fire damage from behind that finished him off after a lot of cumulative damage, mostly from Martyn.
Last Life: The famous last words of "I know what I'm doing". Blown up by his own trap. The scars are centralized on his arms and the front of his torso, with a space where his arms shielded his body. This was his only kill of the season.
Double Life: He has phantom scars from Jimmy's enderman death.
Limited Life: Fall damage claimed yet another victim. He landed feet first and so his ankles shattered nanoseconds before he hit his head and was officially out of the series, leaving him with a scar both on his forehead and thin lines up his lower legs, similar to the ones from Grian's wrists.
Cleo
Tumblr media
Third Life: Skizz killed them while they were making a (very nearly successful) attempt to kill Ren outside the Crastle. Skizz came from behind while they were focused on Ren and killed them with The Skizz Blade. They deemed it "worth it" for the chance to almost take Ren out.
Last Life: She was killed by Joel while she and the other late-game red lifers were hunting him and Grian down. He had a terrain advantage that allowed him to reach that high, since she is significantly taller than him. EDIT: When I get the opportunity I'm going to be updating the diagram to include the blow from Boogeyman!BigB that killed her, because that falls under the category of "important enough thematically and character-wise with long enough lasting impact" that it gets a scar.
Double Life: They died from fall damage during the final confrontation with Pearl. This is one I took some creative liberties with and interpreted "fall damage" as "accidentally fell on a sharp branch". This killed both them and Martyn.
Limited Life: She was killed by Pearl with an axe during a fight with the Nosy Neighbors in the endgame of the season.
It is also worth noting that most of Cleo's scars from the games are either only partly, or barely visible, due to the whole Zombie Thing and the fact that in some of the places the scars would be she just...doesnt have skin.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
~
there is a ticking clock
~
Etho walks through the forest with a clock in his pocket.
It’s a standard clock made of gold and powered by redstone, no bigger than the palm of his hand. He’s attached an iron chain to it, because he knows its intended recipient prefers to have a clock within view at all times instead of hidden away in an inventory. It’s easier not to lose track of time that way. Because if it’s out of sight, it’s out of mind.
Another clock is ticking against Etho’s wrist, beating with the same rhythm as his pulse. The numbers are green. The game’s just started and he has plenty of time. This is what he tells himself as he tugs his sleeve down to cover up the timer. He can still feel it, though. Always ticking.
‘You have twenty-four hours to live,’ Grian had said. ‘Good luck.’
Etho’s luck has held pretty well so far. He hasn’t died yet, he’s found a good team, and he’s even gathered some decent resources. Including enough resources to make a clock. Just four lumps of gold and one handful of redstone dust. Redstone is more precious to Etho than gold, maybe even more than diamonds at this moment, but he hadn’t given it a second thought as he put the clock together.
Like the other players, Etho has lived countless lives in countless worlds. But one thing that remains constant is that whatever world Bdubs is in, he needs a clock. It doesn’t matter if he’s in a world where he can’t sleep- which is a special kind of hell for Bdubs, Etho knows- he still needs to have one.
It helps him, Etho thinks. Knowing when the night will come.
Etho knows what happened on Third Life; Scar gave Bdubs a clock, and Bdubs killed Impulse for him. Etho also knows what happened on Double Life; Bdubs and Impulse were soulmates, and Impulse gave Bdubs a clock as a token of their bond. Forgiveness and a promise all wrapped up in one gesture of kindness- and perhaps, something more.
They were married, back then. Etho doesn’t know what that means, now that they’re in a new world.
(The clock’s always ticking.)
Etho’s already found Bdubs in this world, but they’ve ended up on different teams. Bdubs with Scar and Cleo, Etho with Tango, Skizz, and Impulse- ironically. That doesn’t bother Etho. He’s never had a problem with Impulse. The guy is too earnest, too kind. Even when he and Bdubs were soulmates, he’d welcomed Etho’s allegiance with open arms- and perhaps, something more.
If Etho had been brave enough to ask. If Joel hadn’t been so committed. If things hadn’t gone so badly so quickly. That’s always how it goes, isn’t it? They think they have more time before it all goes to hell, and they’re always wrong.
But this time will be different. This time, Etho knows exactly how much time he has left.
(The ticking clock won’t let him forget.)
It wasn’t that hard to track down Bdubs. Etho follows his voice like a compass, weaving through the dense oak trees, ducking under branches, hopping over small craters in the dirt. He slips a hand into his pocket as he goes, just to make sure the clock is still there. He wraps the chain around his fingers. The metal’s cool against his skin.
He doesn’t call out to Bdubs, not yet. He only catches brief glances of the other player, a flash of red and white against the green forest. Bdubs is talking to himself, oblivious that he’s being followed. Or maybe he’s not. Maybe he’s just humoring Etho until he can get the drop on him, turn the tables on him. It’s a game of cat-and-mouse they play often, a thrilling dance. Etho’s always loved the chase, and Bdubs knows it.
Bdubs disappears around the side of a peninsula with a modest hill on it. The hill where Etho is currently setting up for a mob farm. Etho holds his breath as he follows, inching across the sandbank. His ears are pricked and his eyes are up, muscles tense, waiting for a possible sneak attack- but he hears Bdubs continue on the other side.
Etho steps around the corner.
Bdubs is walking towards the small island that is the top of Etho’s underground base- his and Impulse’s and Tango’s and Skizz’s. Impulse and Tango are currently working on it, flattening out the terrain to make room for the future structure.
Etho pauses, only a few blocks from the narrow sandback that leads to the island.
He’d wanted to do this in private. Like a secret pact, just between them. Impulse and Tango are on his team, the TIES. They’re allies; he shouldn’t be keeping secrets from them. But deep down, Etho knows who he’d choose if it came down to either of them or Bdubs.
If it came down to anyone or Bdubs.
They haven’t noticed him yet. Etho takes a step back, watching the trio. Bdubs has made it across and is chatting to Impulse from behind an abruptly placed door. Tango is still clearing land away. None of them notice as Etho turns around and sprints down the coast, his footsteps light on the sand. He leaps over the river and darts back into the forest, back into the trees.
No voices call after him. He stops to catch his breath.
Later. He’ll do it later- he’s got plenty of time.
(The clock on his wrist is ticking.)
He ends up going to Bdubs’ base at the top of the mountain, because- well. They have cows. Etho’s own team has tried multiple times to acquire two cows, to no avail. If Etho takes two now, he’ll have solved his team’s problem and given Bdubs a reason to come after him. He just knows it’ll tick Bdubs off. So he’ll take two cows now while no one is home and then Bdubs will come for him later and Etho can give him the clock then.
Except Cleo’s home, actually. And she makes it quite clear that the only way Etho is taking any cows is by force. Etho doesn’t want to get into a fight with Cleo; not this soon, not over this. So he concedes defeat and returns home.
He’ll figure out another way to get Bdubs alone, to give him the clock. He’s still got time.
(Always ticking.)
When Etho reaches the end of the forest that overlooks his base, he pauses. He can hear faint voices, and peeks out from behind a tree, not yet willing to reveal himself.
Bdubs is still on the island, talking with Impulse while Tango lingers beside them. Etho can’t make out what they’re saying from this distance. He tries to listen anyways, and catches only snippets. He watches intently, noting who has a weapon equipped, just in case anything should go wrong-
Something familiar is in Impulse’s hand. Something gold.
Etho’s heart jolts. His pulse thrums in his ears, beating in sync with the ticking of the clock. He can barely hear the loud exclamation Bdubs lets out, breaking into a wide grin as his face lights up with joy.
Impulse has given Bdubs a clock.
Etho’s heart drops into his boots. His grip tightens around the clock in his pocket.
The three of them are still talking, out of earshot. Impulse’s face is happily flushed as he rubs the back of his neck. Bdubs is nodding enthusiastically, clutching the clock to his chest. Tango is watching with folded arms and an amused expression. Even without words, Etho knows what it means.
Suddenly, they’re turning towards Etho. He jolts in surprise, body tensing up as he’s split between running or freezing. He isn’t sure if they’re actually looking at him- Bdubs seems to be pointing more towards the mountain.
But he isn't going to risk it; spying from the treeline is a bad look. He emerges from the forest at a jog, casually making his way down the hillside, into the water, and is thankful that he’s wearing a mask that conceals most of his expression. They notice but don’t acknowledge him as he climbs onto the bank of the island.
“Yeah,” Bdubs is saying to Tango, “just right up the hill. Me, Cleo-
“That you?” Tango asks, glancing up at the mountain.
“-Scar. And- yeah.” Bdubs blinks, nods his head. “Uh, and, we’re gonna-”
“B- Bdubs?” Etho calls softly, stepping forward to tap him on the shoulder.
His other hand is in his pocket, holding the clock, fingers twisted in chain. It ticks against his skin, like the clock etched against his wrist. His next sentence is already on his tongue, a sheepish yet amused, ‘Guess Impulse beat me to it, huh?’ as he pulls the clock out. It’ll get some laughs, but hopefully it’ll also get his point across to Bdubs. Hopefully he can still save this.
It takes Bdubs a second to process that Etho’s talking to him. “Yeah, we’re gonna create a-” He breaks off mid-sentence, head whipping over his shoulder to gawk at Etho. “Uh- may I finish?” he asks incredulously.
The words die on Etho’s tongue. Bdubs’ tone is- well. It’s Bdubs. All loud and brash and full of unrestrained emotion, never holding anything back. But something about it is different. Something about it is wrong. There was a very real shock there, almost a panic. Like he doesn’t want Etho to be here right now-
“For goodness sake,” Bdubs continues grumbling, face red, “come in an’ interrupt me, n‘less it’s an emergency, a creeper behind me…”
He’s still holding the clock in his hand.
Etho just stands there, blinking. Impulse and Tango are snickering behind their hands, mistaking the situation as humorous. Not realizing there was anything behind Bdubs’ tone behind a teasing annoyance. Maybe Bdubs doesn’t even realize it.
(The clock is still ticking.)
Seemingly satisfied, Bdubs turns back to Impulse and Tango. He finds his train of thought, starting again. “Uh… I just-”
“Bdubs.” Etho finds his voice, stepping forward again. “I just- I just wanted to say-”
Bdubs fully whirls around this time. “Would you please?!” he shouts.
It should be funny. That’s how he means it, Etho knows. That’s what they do; they banter, they jibe. That’s just the dynamic they have. Etho picks at Bdubs, and Bdubs reacts. He pretends things annoy him more than they do. It’s funny.
Unbeknownst to Bdubs, he’s given Etho the perfect setup. All Etho has to do is pull the clock out of his pocket, hold it out, and deliver his line. But the joke will stem from Etho’s lateness, the hilarity and redundancy of him giving Bdubs a clock right after Impulse already has.
And a joke like that hits a little too close for comfort.
Etho backs off, managing a chuckle. “Sorry, sorry…”
Bdubs smoothly picks back up his conversation. “We’re makin’ an amphitheater,” he tells Tango and Impulse, “and we’re just gonna sit and watch and wait when people die, and come back. It’s fun.”
“I like it, I like it.”
“Oh, great!”
“It’s nice…”
A small pause as the conversation lulls. Finally, Bdubs turns to face Etho. He puts his hands on his hips, one eyebrow quirked expectantly. “Yes, Etho?” he asks, like an exasperated school teacher. “Goodness.”
Etho’s heart pounds. The clock ticks.
(It’s always ticking.)
Etho shoves the clock deeper into his pocket and withdraws his hand. He shrugs as he turns away.
“Nothin’,” he breathes finally. He grins, letting the curve of his mouth shape a humor into his words that he doesn’t feel, and is once again thankful he’s wearing a mask. “Nothin’.”
Scowling, Bdubs throws his hands in the air. “What?” he demands, stalking a few steps after Etho as Etho retreats further; a shallow imitation of their usual dance. “All that for nothin’?”
A comical response, as expected. Impulse and Tango are laughing, oblivious. Etho makes himself laugh, too. He can’t feel the clock in his pocket ticking anymore, but he can feel the one on his wrist, beating with his heart.
(Tick, tick, tick.)
He’s out of time.
Etho doesn’t really pay attention to the conversation after that. He wanders into the shallows around the island, collecting kelp. It’s not cows, but it’s something. And after just a couple more minutes, Bdubs starts ambling back towards the shore, not even addressing Etho in his farewell.
Etho wonders if he’s the reason Bdubs chose to leave now. He wonders if Bdubs would’ve stayed and talked more with Impulse, had Etho not arrived when he did. He wonders what would’ve happened if he hadn’t left, if he’d approached Bdubs at the start and given him the clock before Impulse.
He thought he’d had more time. That’s always how it goes, isn’t it?
(Yet the ticking hasn’t stopped.)
The next day, Etho walks through the forest with a clock in his pocket.

Tango shrugged. “Yeah, I guess I did. Xisuma’s teaching Impulse some Galactic Standard so he can cheat at enchanting or something. Apparently Xelqua’s, like, some sort of god in Xisuma’s culture? It was kind of unclear, I wasn’t paying attention when Impulse told me.”
“Huh,” Grian said vacantly. “How about that.”
oops! Grian is Xisuma's god. amazing

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Techno says frankly.
“You know,” Grian says again. “Your- Watchers.”

These Days I Don't Feel Like Myself At All / Mercury (No One Can Unring This Bell) (Series Ongoing) - RoguishOne (DarkWolfMoon)
TommyInnit had died. Again. To Dream. Again. And it sucked exactly as much as he thought it would because he'd wanted to move on and have a chance to actually live this time. Seems he won't be getting that.
Then he gets pulled out of Limbo, but he doesn't wake up back in the cell with Dream or next to his bed on the server. He doesn't wake up on the Dream SMP at all.
Little does he know that this is the least of his worries.
i want to scream and cry and hypervenilate thinking about this fic series. literally cannot recommend it enough. your life will be ROCKED. THE WRITING IS SOOOOO OGOOOD . i just want to shake. i cannot put into words what this fic makes me feel.

Shells in the Foam (a Hermit!Tommy fanfic) - Cedarwhisp21
When Dream attacks Tommy in Logestshire, Tommy runs. Badly injured, he somehow manages to slip between worlds and wakes up in a badlands biome, on a server far from home, with no other players in sight.
The Hermits are surprised when a new player logs in, and confused when no-one's at spawn. Five days later, after waiting for the new player to introduce themselves, Xisuma uses his admin abilities to access their coordinates. He takes Impulse with him to welcome the new player to Hermitcraft, but instead of the beginnings of a base, they find something a lot more concerning.

If someone asked Grian why he was relentlessly pranking Etho now that he was finally back in Hermitland, he'd say it was just for pure fun.
To Etho, it meant Grian was mad at him.
To everyone else, Grian had a huge crush on the redstone user and obviously didn't know how to communicate it.

Tango is a phoenix. A creature of fire and death, the symbol of all that refuses to perish. Everyone knows this. In the past, when Tango lost a life it was laughed off, brushed to the side as no big deal. He dies constantly, right? He's used to it at this point. Well, he may be used to it, but that doesn't mean he doesn't hate it. On Hermitcraft, while all the other hermits only feel a momentary shock of pain before the respawn clears their slate, reworking their troubled particles to avoid death, Tango feels it all. Lost lives mean lost lives for him, not just a restart- he dies, feeling all the ripping, tearing, screeching pain that comes with that. And to a certain extent, yes, he's used to it. He knows the pain, he knows how to grit his teeth and stand back up, get back to work and back to life. But it still hurts. And not only does he have to hurt for it, but he still gets dragged to an infuriating respawn point like everyone else, his ashes blown to whatever inconvenient location his bed was left at, or even worse, main spawn. Death is a pet peeve that brings the utmost frustration for Tango. There is nothing that makes him more angry than to think, "Another stupid mistake, another stupid death."
So when he dies for the first time on Double Life, he ought to be aggravated like usual. If this was any other time, he would punch a fist into the ground and push himself to his feet with gritted teeth, fire smoldering as the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end like an angry dog. But he did this to someone else, and all he can think to be is sorry. This is a hardcore server, where everyone feels the pain of death the same as him. And another of his stupid mistakes, usually just an annoyance for him, dragged someone else through that. And worse of all, he's sure whoever it is will say, "Oh, it's alright Tango, if I'd known I was bound to you I would have seen it coming! You always are one to die easily, huh? Death must be practically a joke to you, at this point."
But when he turns around to find Jimmy Solidarity getting to his feet behind him, Jimmy is angry.
If he was anyone else, Tango would probably be a little defensive. He hadn't meant to, it was just a dumb accident (because of course it was). But Tango knows what anger means. It means you care. And to have someone care that he died, even if it means Jimmy, his soulmate, speaks with a raised voice and a frown overlaying a disbelieving laugh-
It makes Tango smile.
"What happened Tango?!"
Jimmy is a canary. A creature of death and faded song, the universal symbol of warnings with a price. Everyone knows this. Having played in these games before, Jimmy knows what his role is. He falls first so everyone finally starts taking things seriously. He's done it so many times before, right? He's used to it at this point. Well, he may be used to it, but that doesn't mean he doesn't dread it. On every server, he gets laughed at constantly, told how everyone's expecting him to trip at the worst possible time and be out before anyone else has even gotten started. And as a canary, he feels it coming to a certain extent. There's a tingling in his feathers, almost a magnetic property to certain deadly omens. He knows what his role is, he's learned to expect his own death. But it still hurts. The way his life is almost a toy to others, not really anything of substantial value on its own. Even Scott, his husband from another life, had gone off to Cleo in anticipation of his early demise. Even he hadn't really believed Jimmy would get far past the starting line. But that's just what he's come to expect. To accept. Death is an expectation of the utmost embarrassment for Jimmy. There's nothing that makes him feel more resigned than to think, "Another little mistake, another little death."
So when he dies for the first time on Double Life, he ought to take it quietly like usual. If this was any other time, he'd groan in embarrassment and anticipation of the teasing, heave a sigh, and pull himself to his feet, a defensive, dismissive laugh readied on the tip of his tongue to try and defend his dignity. But someone else did this to him, and all he can think to be is angry. He usually feels a bit defensive after dying, but this time around he won't let anyone get away with regarding his life as a joke. Whoever it is who did this, he's all too ready to hear, "Oh, I hope that's alright Jimmy, I'm sure you knew you'd die first anyways. Not like we ought to expect anything else from our trusty old canary, huh?" and this time he's not going to have it.
But when he turns around to find Tango Tek standing behind him, Tango is sorry.
If he was anyone else, Jimmy would probably be expecting that. Tango hadn't meant to quicken his fated canary’s end, it was just an accident, he's sure. But Jimmy knows what those shuffling feet, the rubbing of the back of the neck mean. It means you wish you hadn't done that. It means you care. And to have someone care that he died, even if it means Tango, his soulmate, flinches a bit and laughs an embarrassed laugh Jimmy knows all too well in response to his short words-
It makes Jimmy smile.

Double Life One-Shot!
Before Reading:
1. This is the first time I’m sharing any of my work on here so I apologize if it’s not a good format
2. Some of the events from Double Life were changed a bit to fit the narrative of this one shot
ENJOY!
—————
Grian didn’t even have time to think. He knew somebody was coming up to kill him and the others and that they had to be stopped.
The stalagmite on the top of the ceiling was put there as a trap before in case something like this were to happen.
Without hesitation, he took his pickaxe and swung right through it. A crunching sound as the pickaxe scraped through the stalagmite and came apart, falling to the floor below.
A loud crash could be heard. As Grian looked down, he could see a body lying beneath the stalagmite, a small pool of blood pouring out from behind them.
He smiled and laughed, sounding both relieved and maniacal. He climbed down the ladder and observed the body closer.
It was Ren. He wasn’t a friend, but also not a foe. But at this point in time, anybody could be his enemy.
Grian could suddenly feel a sense of emptiness overcome him. He had never felt this before. It wasn’t like any sort of pain he would feel when Scar would do something stupid and cause an arm or a leg to snap. It felt like a part of him had suddenly left. But Scar was technically his other half, and nothing had happened to him, otherwise he would be dead as well.
Just then, the announcement could be heard:
“RenDog was killed by a Stalagmite. BigB died.”
BigB. Ren’s other half, his secret lover. He had killed him as well.
Grian fell to his knees. Etho and Scar both ran down to help him. They saw the look of defeat across his face. Etho immediately knew, Scar wasn’t sure.
“Grian, what’s going on?” Scar asked.
“BigB…” Grian mumbled, tears filling up in his eyes, “I’m so sorry…”
Etho placed his hand on Grian’s shoulder. Although he could never get Bdubs to be his secret lover, he would’ve felt the same exact way if it were him. He slowly helped Grian stand up. Grian kept his head down, tears strolling down his face.
Grian looked up at Scar, “We need to have another funeral…”
“A-Another one?” Scar asked, raising an eyebrow.
“For BigB…” Grian nodded, “I just… can’t believe what I’ve just done…”
“But we just killed Ren, why would we—?” Scar paused, slowly but surely putting the pieces together.
He slouched, shaking his head and sighed, “Fine…”
He walked out of the castle.
———
There was no body to bury. All the bodies just disappeared a few moments after they died. Grian simply took out some stone and carved Big B’s name on it like a gravestone. After he was finished, he sat down and just stared at it. He sat there silently for several moments before he finally spoke.
“BigB… I’m so sorry…” Grian said, “I hope you’re able to forgive me… I never intended for you to get killed…”
He felt a soft breeze pick up from behind him. His eyes suddenly glowing a bright purple, and he could hear voices in his head.
It was going to happen either way… With or without you…
“Well I’m not going to let this happen to me as well… As long as I’m staying alive, I’m keeping a part of BigB alive as well…”
Scar… He’s a part of you as well…
“He is… but not by choice…” Grian responded.
He has been of great help to you…
“He almost got us killed quite a lot! That’s not very helpful if you ask me…”
The voices grew silent. The purple in his eyes faded away.
He could tell they wanted to say more. That usually wasn’t a good thing. But what was wrong with what he had said? He wanted to stay alive. That was the whole point of this!
He needed to come up with something. Something that would potentially cause everybody to lose lives, possibly even permanently.
Tango had brought up the Warden before. However it wasn’t very successful. Grian knew he could pull something like that again, and with more lives on the line this time it could work.
But that would mean he would have to go all the way down to the deep dark to get it. That in and of itself was going to be risky, but he wanted to do it.
And he has never wanted to do something that risky before, at least by himself.
He should at least tell Scar what he was doing. He knew he wouldn’t care. But they were on their last life together, what if he did? What if Scar tried to stop him from going down there?
No, he was just going to go.
As he finally stood up and walked past his base, he saw Scar tending to his pandas.
Those damn pandas… I don’t understand his fascination with them…
Scar noticed Grian standing behind him out of the corner of his eye.
He frowned, “Are you done with the funeral?”
Grian was caught off guard, not knowing he would actually say anything to him. He thought he would only smile and wave, maybe be completely oblivious altogether.
Grian simply nodded, “I’m… going to talk to Joel real quick…”
Scar was silent. He knew Grian was plotting something. What it was, he couldn’t tell. He knew that they were on their last life, and that they both should be cautious.
“Maybe I should go with you?” Scar suggested.
“I won’t be long.” Grian said, “It should only be five, maybe ten minutes.”
He couldn’t tell whether Grian meant it or not. If he was telling the truth about anything.
He sighed, “Alright… just be careful, it’s getting late.”
Grian stood there for another few seconds, took a deep breath and nodded as he ran off.
Scar turned back around, tending to his pandas, and hoping that this wasn’t going to be a mistake.
———
Grian made his way down the long stairwell that led down to the deep dark.
As he turned the corner, he stared into the ancient city. He watched as the sculk sensors were swaying back and forth, the shriekers only a few feet away.
He didn’t have to go too far, he just had to summon the warden with the shriekers and run out of there.
This might be easy. It could be done.
He stepped foot onto the sculk, the sensors going off.
RRRRAAAAAAHHHH!!!!
Grian’s heart began racing, chills going down his spine as everything grew pitch black before what small amount of light was inside the ancient city returned,
He took another step, the sensors triggering once more.
RRRRAAAAAAHHHH!!!!
Everything grew dark again. He knew the third time he moved, the shrieker would go off and the warden would be summoned.
His mind was racing with second thoughts. Maybe he should turn around and run. Even though the sensors would still trigger the shrieker and summon the warden, he still could run out of there and have a chance at making it out alive.
The other part of him, however, told him to stay. That he’s made it this far and he shouldn’t turn back now. He could make it through this, get the warden onto the surface and hopefully cause as much harm and chaos as possible.
RRRRAAAAAAHHHH!!!!
Grian’s eyes widened. How did the shrieker go off again? He hadn’t even moved!
He could feel the ground shake beneath him and could hear the loud, thunderous noise as the warden came out from the ground only a couple feet away from him.
His legs started trembling, feeling like Jell-o, he couldn’t move them. The warden appeared much more ominous and threatening than it had the few times it had been summoned before.
The warden slowly started moving towards him.
I need to move! Why aren’t I moving???
Finally, as if a snap of a finger, he could finally move again and began running out of the ancient city and towards the long stairwell.
Nothing else was on his mind at that moment, he just wanted to get out of there, with or without the warden following him.
He suddenly heard a large gasp that almost sounded like it came from directly behind him.
Before he could even turn around to see just how close the warden was to him,
BOOOOOOOOOMMM!!!
A loud, thunderous, almost explosive sound erupted from the warden. Everything around him started to shake. His eardrums popping inside of him and everything within his body violently shook back and forth, several bones snapping, his organs beginning to melt inside of him.
He was still alive while all of this was happening. His unheard cries of pain and help echoed throughout the stairwell. He kept stumbling, trying to regain himself but it was of no use. Blood started trickling down from his ears and from both nostrils.
His body no longer had the strength to keep climbing. He just laid there, almost in defeat.
He couldn’t hear or see anything, but he could feel the vibrations of the warden continuing to climb up the stairwell.
Please… spare me… I’m sorry…
Another explosion rang throughout the stairwell. This time, it had finished him within a second.
———
“He’s not here?” Scar asked Joel.
“No, we haven’t seen him since he had killed Ren…” Etho shook his head.
“He told me he was coming to talk to you, Joel.” Scar explained.
“To me?” Joel asked. “What about?”
Scar sighed, giving a shrug, “I don’t know… but I think he lied…”
“I don’t know why he would lie to you and run off.” Joel said.
Etho thought back to when he saw Grian last. He looked heartbroken, almost defeated for having killed BigB. He knew with Grian disappearing so suddenly it wouldn’t end well for Scar.
“I think I might have an idea…” Etho said. “And I would try to get to him as quickly as possible.”
“Where do you think he could’ve gone?” Scar asked.
“That I don’t know but you need to go now.” Etho responded.
Scar had more questions, but Etho’s urgency kept him from doing so.
“Thank you.” Scar said as he ran outside and went on his horse.
Well, it wasn’t his horse, but that wasn’t important.
As the horse began to gallop away, Scar suddenly grew an uneasy feeling. Was it Etho’s words? Or was his connection with Grian warning him of something?
Almost as quickly as the uneasiness grew on him, he suddenly felt everything in his body tremble. Bones were snapping, his organs felt like they were burning and melting away. He fell off his horse and rolled down the hill as he lost his grip. He slowly began loosing his ability to see, hear and feel anything.
His body was in fight or flight mode, trying to do whatever it could to stop him from dying but it was no use.
He was so confused and scared as to what was happening to him.
GRIAN… WHAT ARE YOU DOING??
Everything around him was now blurry, and sound was muffled.
He saw two figures running towards him from a distance. The voices were muffled, but he could still recognize them calling his name.
“SCAR!” Etho and Joel shouted as they ran closer to him.
Scar couldn’t even move his mouth to ask for help, and just as they made it to him, everything grew dark.
Joel and Etho froze as they saw Scar go limp, his lifeless eyes staring back up at them.
In the distance, they could hear an announcement.
“Grian was killed by a sonic boom. Scar died.”
The two of them looked at one another.
“What the hell was he trying to do with the warden?” Joel asked.
Etho didn’t respond. He just shook his head and walked off.
———
Grian opened his eyes. Darkness surrounded him. He couldn’t tell whether he was alive or dead.
It wasn’t until he saw the purple glows around him that he knew where he was.
“What am I doing back here?” Grian asked.
You’ve disappointed us, young Grian.
“All I did was try and win…and the Warden killed me.”
The warden didn’t kill you… it was you who did that to yourself.
“I… was upset that I had killed BigB…”
And you chose to end your life and Scar’s in the process…
Grian nodded.
Have you no shame?
“…If I’m being honest, I really don’t know…”
You will make this right.
“How?”
That is up to you. But you will not let us down again…
The purple glow disappeared once more, Grian sat in silence. He thought back to the first trial. It was just him and Scar. He had grown an almost familial, loving bond with him and couldn’t bear to live with the thought that he had to kill him.
The second trial, he never really had that same bond with him. In fact, he almost bullied him a few times, only reaching out to him because he was desperate for more lives.
This, the third trial, he never even gave Scar a chance. He just kept running off to try and avoid him as much as possible and deny the fact that they were partnered together. Even going so far as to start another relationship to try and make up for it.
He understood now. Why they were paired together, and it only took until now to realize it.
Grian felt guilty. He felt terrible knowing he couldn’t go and apologize to Scar now or give him a hug. He had to wait until the next trial, and hope that by some miracle Scar doesn’t want to kill him for what he’s done. Although he wouldn’t blame him if he did.
He knew what he had to do now.
The fourth trial, that one was going to start soon. He couldn’t interfere with that one.
The fifth trial, everything was still being worked on. He didn’t have much control over these trials, but every once in a while he could suggest something and it was up to them to approve or deny.
I’m sure they wouldn’t deny this…this is my way of making things right…
The fifth trial… being Secret Life.

I was thinking about the winners hanging out, and then I was thinking about Scott borrowing Scarlet Pearl's cloak, and then it spiraled into this.
So, a little bit late Life series roleswap AU. All the Double Life soulmates swap places with each other, and that carries through the other series.
Some highlights I was thinking of:
Last Life:
Aha-lliance consisting of Cleo, Tango, Lizzie, Scar, and Bdubs. They're terrifying. They have no clue what they're doing. Cleo is the only thing keeping these fools alive. They're her fools. Half the server lives in fear of them.
Moon fairy King Mumbo and his loyal knight BigB. And their tentative allies, Martyn and Ren.
Etho, the terrifying sorcerer in the mountain, and his partner, Grian, with too sharp teeth in a jagged smile and lives to spare for the sake of claiming a life or two.. Care to make a deal?
Third life:
Red king BigB, and his most vicious protector, loyal, burning Cleo.
Scar accidentally gets Grian killed, so he swears to stick with him. Despite Grian's best efforts.
Red Grian with a massive body count, and Scar who keeps accidentally murdering people, he is so sorry, but those were his orders. Would some reputation points make it up to you?
Tango and Pearl, fireworks duo. They're either going to be your best defense or the most annoying duo you've ever had to deal with. There is no in-between.
Pearl dies, so Tango sets the world ablaze before following after. She's got an eternal fireworks show going on in their afterlife, with his red stone and all their hard work finally coming to fruition in a way it never managed to in life.
Double life:
Martyn and Pearl decide they don't need Scott and Cleo after the two team up to check out the Nether. So Scott and Cleo decide that's just fine with them, actually, and are low key terrifying for the rest of the series.
There's a tower in the woods where the air is frigid and the shadows are long and the undead linger. A flash of dull orange through the leaves. The crunch of snow on green grass. The glimpse of a red cloak before the night swallows it up, starless and starving. Something red and dark blocks out the moon above your head.
The dye won't stay in Scott's hair anymore, despite his numerous attempts. Eventually, teal seeping between his fingers, he gives up.
There's something so deeply unsettling about seeing him with only the bright crimson of for color.
Are Pearl and Martyn going to ask their soulmates to come back? No. But if Scott and Cleo chose to, then they would not stop them. Out of the kindness of their hearts.
Limited life:
Mean gils Pearl and Cleo.
Bad boys Etho, Tango, and Scar. They lack a moral compass.
Scott and Ren vibing. At some point Mumbo swaps with Scott? Or however that was interpreted. No clue who we swap Gem with, but they swap/possess Martyn.

The Ultimate Comprehensive Guide to the Forty-Six Deaths of Limited Life Session Seven
Well, that session was quite a ride, wasn't it? Between TNT minecarts, rocket crossbows, glass-lined traps and a general devil-may-care attitude towards gravity, the Life Series Players managed to rack up an astonishing forty-six deaths during the three hours of play this week! For those keeping score at home, that is more than double the entire total of kills from the six weeks of Double Life, all in one day.
It's no wonder that the action is hard to follow, especially if you're only watching a few POVs. With that in mind, here is my comprehensive guide to the whos, whats, wheres and whys of all the Session Seven deaths, in order. If you notice anything wrong, or if I missed any deaths in all the excitement, please reply and let me know!
The Bad Boys ascend the ladder to their skybridge, M-Rye-5. Joel misclicks while turning around on the ladder and falls to his death.
Grian, distracted by Joel’s sudden departure, wanders off the side of the ladder and falls to his death seconds later.
The Bad Boys regroup at the bottom of the ladder, where Jimmy accuses his teammates of playing a prank and using /me commands to make it look like they died. He’s really mad about it and shoots the others with a crossbow as they ascend again, knocking both Joel and Grian off the ladder. Joel nails an MLG bucket clutch and saves himself, but Grian falls to his death again.
Irritated with Jimmy, Joel and Grian use fishing pole and crossbow to bring Jimmy down from the ladder. Grian hits Jimmy with his sword, apparently intending to knock him off the platform and into the water, but Jimmy’s health is low enough that it becomes a PVP kill instead.
Scott realizes that he is being pursued by half of the server because he is the yellow with the most time still on his clock. To take some of the heat off, he allows Scar to kill him so long as he does it before the Bogeyman is assigned. Scar shoots him several times with a bow.
Scott is chased off of Skynet by Etho and TIES, but enderpearls safely to the ground. They follow him and Etho and Impulse shoot him with rocket crossbows. Etho tries for a Bogey kill but Impulse accidentally kill-snipes him.
Etho returns to Skynet with TIES and attempts to Bogey-kill Grian with a rocket crossbow, but Grian kills him in self-defense.
Scott enters a temporary alliance with TIES and follows them up onto Skynet. He fires into the TIES-Bad Boys melee and kills Grian, who was very injured from fighting Etho.
Scott also manages to kill Jimmy with a bow shot into the same combat, kill-sniping Tango.
TIES and Scott celebrate their victory over the Bad Boys while all clustered together on Skybridge. Grian drops a TNT minecart on them from M-Rye-5 and kills Scott.
He also kills Impulse.
He also kills Tango.
He also kills Etho.
Joel and Jimmy go to spawn for a bit of lighthearted mockery of the respawning TIES. They are shot at with bows, which don’t do much damage until Scott’s arrow knocks Joel off the single-wide bridge between Clockers Tower and the remains of Bread Bridge, sending him falling to his death.
With Joel gone and Jimmy undefended, Etho chases Jimmy up onto the flooded remains of Bread Bridge and finally scores a Bogey kill by way of crossbow rocket. It is unclear why this did not take Jimmy out of the series. It may have been a clerical error, or could mean that a Bogey kill bonus cannot take someone out of the series.
Impulse and Tango follow Etho onto Bread Bridge but are met by Jimmy and the Clockers, who are desperate to get a kill for Jimmy before his last seven minutes run out. Impulse tries to dodge by enderpearling off the bridge (despite multiple nearby water streams off the bridge) but misjudges somehow, bounces off a mushroom and falls to his death.
Jimmy begins frantically messaging Scott to come and give him the thirty minutes he promised. In the meantime, Bdubs demands that Jimmy kill him in order to save his life. Jimmy shoots him with a bow and gets 30 minutes.
Jimmy and Scott meet up in the wheat fields on M-Rye-5, along with the other Bad Boys. Jimmy escorts Scott a little ways away and then pushes him off the bridge, sealing the promise Scott made to give him time as Scott falls to his death.
Grian and the other Bad Boys return to M-Rye-5 for more TNT minecart fun. A very fortunate accident of timing lets him drop a TNT minecart right onto Tango, who blows up.
The Bad Boys realize that it is difficult to get ground kills from M-Rye-5 and descend to Skynet, where they can at least see the ground. Joel runs to the Clockers base and pushes out a TNT minecart, which kills Cleo.
It also kills Martyn.
Flushed with success, the Bad Boys attempt to reset their minecart push when they realize that Martyn is once again standing under the Skynet bridge. Grian encourages Joel to let Jimmy push the cart because Jimmy is still badly in need of extra time. Joel lets him push the cart but Jimmy gets a bit too enthusiastic and falls off the bridge after the minecart. The minecart detonates harmlessly, but Jimmy falls to his final death and is out of the series.
Skizz pursues Martyn off of Skynet and into the ruins of Bread Bridge, hoping to get a kill. Martyn jumps off the side of the manor and into the water, but when Skizz tries to follow, he bounces off a lower roof for half damage and dies when he hits the treeline. Martyn gets credit because they were in combat.
With Jimmy dead, Joel and Grian split up and Joel returns to the now-moldy Sub Sandwich. He finds Tango there and chases him out onto the platflorm, where he tries to jump-crit him with a sword. The knockback from his own jump attack sends Joel off the platform and falling into the water, which Martyn has laced with panes of blue glass. Joel falls onto glass and dies.
Joel sees that people are congregating around the Frog Tower and approaches it on Skynet with some TNT minecarts. He cannot actually see the ground but blind-pushes two minecarts where he thinks people are likely to be. The Nosy Neighbors see and avoid the first minecart, but the second one blows up BigB.
Team TIES invades the Clock Tower and engages in a shooting battle with the Clockers. Impulse is injured during the shooting and then dies from fall damage when someone (Scott takes credit) shoots him off the ledge he is standing on.
During the shooting battle, Skizz pushes four or five TNT minecarts out of the Clock Tower, all in the same place. Scott gets distracted enough by attempting to shoot Impulse that he wanders straight into the blast path and gets blown up.
The shooting battle continues outside the tower as the Clockers fend off TIES. Scar tags Etho with a weakness potion and gets in several good hits but is hampered by Bdubs, who does not want Etho dead despite his general murderousness. Scott snipes the kill on Etho while Scar is distracted.
During the fight, Skizzleman jumps into the melee and begins fighting Scar as well. Scar scores several hits, as does Cleo. Both of them also hit Bdubs as well as a cow who happens to be in the waterlogged hole where the battle I taking place. Scar kills Skizz with his sword.
Meanwhile, Martyn finds himself treed in Frog Tower and pursued by Joel, Pearl and Grian. He escapes into the woods and attempts to set a minecart trap to kill the others, but it blows up in his face and kills him. Pearl gets credit because she got the last hit in on him.
Skizz respawns and notices he was not carrying his totem in his offhand. He equips it and dives straight back into melee combat agains Cleo, apparently maddened by bloodlust. He jumps off the bridge after her and takes significant damage. Scar follows them and hits Skizz with a sword in defense of his Mom, popping Skizz’s totem.
Skizz chooses not to take the opportunity the totem provides to retreat, instead attempting to kill Scott when he joins the fray. He is quickly killed again by Scar.
Joel is pursued across the server by Scott and Scar, who is determined to introduce Joel to Mrs. Puffy the pufferfish in retaliation for Joel’s kill on Cleo. Joel is unable to escape and is eventually worn down by the pair of them and Martyn. Scott snipes the final kill off Scar, but all is forgiven when he gives Scar another Mrs. Puffy to replace the one that perished.
Scar returns to the Clock Tower, where he and Bdubs are surprised when Etho MLG buckets out of the sky near them. Scar moves in to attack, but Bdubs says he cannot possibly kill their dad. He does not get in the way this time, though. Scar takes Etho to very low health, but the kill is sniped when Etho dies to fall damage with a skeleton nearby to take credit.
Etho respawns and the fight is back on, this time with Martyn trying to kill Etho as well. Etho gets the upper hand against Scar but Scar accidentally shoots one of his own wolves, aggroing it. The wolf snipes the kill on Scar and gets the credit.
Skizz assembles TIES at Windsor base one last time. He distributes his valuable possessions, explaining that he has been unable to score the kills he needs to survive and he refuses to give their enemies the last of his time. He orders his teammates to help him sacrifice himself in the hopes that someone in TIES will make it to the end of the game. Etho, being the TIES member with the least time remaining, kills Skizz with his own axe, taking him out of the game.
The newly-reduced Team TIE faces off against the Clockers on Skynet. Impulse leads the way because he has the most life remaining, and after a long-distance battle kills Bdubs with a bow.
Injured from the fight, Impulse bricks himself up long enough to eat, then tries to get off Skynet when it’s clear he’s still under fire. He uses an ender pearl that puts him on the ground with half a heart remaining and flees, then dies to the fall damage from a two-block drop.
Scar climbs up onto M-Rye-5 where Grian and Joel are hiding in the irrigation holes of the wheat field. Grian gets the drop on Scar and after a pitched two-on-one PVP battle, Scar attempts to jump to safety but is killed by Grian at the last moment with exquisite comedic timing.
Joel and Grian travel on M-Rye-5 looking for targets on Skynet. They choose to ignore Pearl and focus instead on Martyn, Cleo and Scar on the platform above the Clock Tower. Grian pushes a minecart onto them which obliterates the platform. Martyn and Cleo blow up, but Scar merely falls off and is saved by a timely bucket clutch.
Joel encounters Scott and Scar in the ruins of the Bad Boy base, after almost dying several times to forgetting about the glass in the water. Scott is annoyed about Joel griefing his base, and Scar would like to show Joel the new and improved Mrs. Puffy. They fight in the flooded remnants of the Bread Bridge and Scott gets in the final hit.
The kill from Scott takes Joel to seven minutes on his timer, leaving him desperate for more time. He tries unsuccessfully to kill Scott with a crossbow, then engages with Scar at the base of the Clock Tower. They do a lot of damage to each other, but Grian intervenes and insists that Joel kill him rather than risk dying to Scar. Joel kills Grian and gets thirty minutes back.
Moments later, Joel also finishes Scar off for another thirty minute gain.
Moments after that, Scott catches up and kills Joel with a bow, taking Joel back down to five minutes remaining.
Grian and Joel reunite at the Sub Sandwich where they’ve both respawned and decide they can’t afford for Grian to give Joel more time. Grian gives Joel TNT instead and they head for the Clock Tower where the Clockers and Scott are grouped up and waiting. Joel is desperate for a kill despite the odds stacked against him and tries to speed-build a platform to push a TNT minecart from. Joel is unsuccessful and ultimately falls to a bow attack from Scott, taking him out of the series.

"Y/n!" Grian exclaimed. He was on his knees trying to beg you to join his new server and you sat declining
'Double Life' he called it
It was a death game, everyone knew that and even if your home server was FAR from nice, you at least had more than three lives to live.
"Grian, if I join, then the number will be uneven. Do you have another person to make it even?"  You asked softly and brought Grian from off the ground
"Well yes, but they haven't answered yet." Grian said, "They should answer before it starts though!"
You let out a sigh and said "Fine. I'll Join."
"Yes!" Grian said under his breath "I promise you won't regret it! You'll love it! There are thrills, guts, and glory!"
"I'm sure it will be wonderful. Maybe I'll meet a life partner there. Who knows?" You entertained the avian but somewhere deep inside you actually hoped your words come true
=====
When the time came, you quickly walked out of your home server, it was mainly dead anyway but there were rumors that there would be an activity minimum for it, and into the new server. It was there where you were met with everyone else and you began to count
15...
There were 15 people on the server including you.
"Y/n!" Grian smiled and walked to you "You're the last one on!"
"You said there wouldn't be an uneven number!" Y/n said and grabbed the avian by his shoulders and shook him
"Mum- bo- could- n't- Jo- in-" Grian said as you shook him and soon escaped your grasps with a breath of relief
"It'll be fine, Y/n." Scott came up to you "All it means is that the code will match one of us to an already existing couple."
You lean into him with a pout and say "I hope I'm at least paired with you. I know literally no one else except for you and Grian."
"You need to meet some new people." Scott said, "I mean, I see a pretty canary staring straight at you."
When Scott said that he dragged your eyes from his to another man. One who flushed a bright red once he realized he was caught looking at you and you held back a coo. With beautiful chocolate brown eyes shining in the sun, golden hair and wings fluttering and being ruffled with the wind, and the gorgeous flush across his face, you murmured
"I wouldn't mind being paired with that cutie."
"Our resident canary in a coal mine." Scott murmured "Jimmy's got this weird thing where he's the first out every season. Maybe you can change that."
"I don't know. I think he's fine just the way he is. I mean I'm here for a good time not a long time." You winked at the cyan-haired male
Soon their attention was directed to grian who explained what was going on and what would be happening and the group split their separate ways.
Hours later, you were very grateful you came back to spawn to scope out some places to live because one minute you were walking under the spawn trees, and then next there was a sharp pain in your right side, ringing, and then it stopped.
<Tango> was blown up by a creeper
<Y/ndoesthings> died
<SolidarityGaming> died
When you opened your eyes, you were in a tree and there was a shrill voice going "WHAT HAPPENED TANGO?!" and a dull pain rushed into your ankle, someone must have jumped down from their tree
"Is Everyone okay?" You asked and saw both tango and Jimmy
"Oh! Hi! Hi- I'm so sorry!" He cried out and placed his face in his hands to hide
"Take me through it, What- What's happened there?" Jimmy asked
"There was some caving and then there might have been about seven zombies and a spider and- You're being butted!" Tango said, still atop one of the many trees at spawn.
Jimmy was the one that jumped down and was currently holding his stomach from being headbutted by a stay goat. Tango jumped down and You followed his lead. Once you were down from your tree you went up to each of the boys and asked
"Is everyone okay?"
The two nodded in response and you used both of your hands to cup one of their cheeks, which is a touch they melted into. Once you let go, they continued with their conversation and You went to grab your things, which were thankfully only like 10 feet away. Once you came back, tango was apologizing again and Jimmy is pacing around.
"All right, let's go meet up in a bit, I need to go grab my stuff before it despawns!" He said
"I don't even know where I was!" Tango realized "I just lost everything, yeah- I have no idea where I was."
"You two go and try to get your things back. If anything, come back here and I'll have extra supplies for you guys." Y/n spoke up and placed a gentle hand on both of their shoulders "I snagged a bunch of iron so don't worry for now. just try and grab your things."
But your words were barely heard as the boys panicked and laughed. After a minute, Jimmy and Tango decided to head up on a tree for a better leverage point to look. You followed the two boys as they talked and made what they needed for a hiding spot in case they die again.
Once they did that (and tango placed a stick in to claim it), Jimmy went his separate way and left Y/n and Tango together.
"How are you feeling?" You asked softly
"Guilty," Tango admitted and his shoulders slumped "this was the worst way to meet me- to meet us."
"Maybe," You hummed gently and picked a stray Daisy and gave it to the man, the piping hot blaze rods burning brighter as Tango took it and flushed a pink "But we didn't have to find each other by running around like headless chickens and while we might be yellows now, I don't think I'd rather be yellow with anyone else."
Tango made a flustered noise and You could help but find it so endearing. This man, who was at least a good two feet taller than you, was burning bright red, golden hair flickering as if it were going to burst into flames and smoke coming off his back.
Actually, now that you looked at him you noticed he wore a tight-fitting black crop top (that did wonders for his lean figure hubba hubba-) that had dipped down into a point to connect and clip onto his black cargo pants with cuffs around his wrists and the top of his bicep but the ones around his wrists were loose and had short chains dangling from them.
When you finally looked at his face, Ruby red eyes glittered with amusement and an open mouth smirked and showed off sharp canine teeth.
"Like what you see?" He grinned and you swatted at him
"Yeah, you look fine as hell," you winked and he laughed
=====
Hours later, Jimmy came back with nothing and a disappointed face only to find out you had a chest full of items for him ready and to see that you and Tango were suited up in Iron gear.
"What-" He said and You saw his shoulders sag "How-"
"Check the chest Jimmy," You said and watched as he opened it
Sunlight beamed onto his face, blinding him for a second.
"My bad, probably a bad idea to face the opening of the chest to face where the sun is shining. It was supposed to be for dramatic effect though." Tango said and turned the chest away from the sun and spilled all the goods inside. Iron armor, a diamond pickaxe and sword, food, and small trinkets the two had piled up for Jimmy fell from the chest.
"is- Is all this for me?" he asked softly and knelt to the ground and grabbed the sword with a shakey touch and his eyes shone with unshed tears "Why- You didn't have-"
"We wanted to. It's not much but we hope you enjoy it." You smiled and kneeled in front of him "Most of it I already had in my inventory so..."
"Y/n actually put the whole chest together," Tango pointed out with a satisfied smirk, and watched as a bashful flush spread across their cheeks and to their ears "They thought of the idea and organized everything. I just added in two things you might've liked."
"Would it be too early in our relationship to kiss you two?" Jimmy asked, eyes glittering like topaz with the sun shining its golden rays on his already sunkissed skin
"I wouldn't think so," You smiled and cupped his face with both of your hands to pull him into a gentle kiss, electricity burning through you when your lips brushed against his, Tango coming up beside you to steal Jimmy away for another soft kiss to his lips and to press a chaste one against yours.
Jimmy tasted like bubblegum and Tango tasted like cinnamon.
You just found your two new favorite flavors.
=====
A day or so later, the home you and Tango had been constructed and Jimmy had brought in cows and some other essential things needed.
The three of you deemed yourself, The Ranchers.
A silly nickname but you can't bring yourself to protest as Jimmy and Tango have their hearts set on making a monopoly on getting some farm animals and how can you say no to your Ruby and Topaz?
Your precious jewels...  Oh how you love them so.
As the three of you took a break though, Jimmy asked about Tango's choice of shirt wear.
He wore crop tops like there weren't any left in the world
And there wasn't anything wrong with it, in fact, both Jimmy and You had admitted to the man that you loved the fact that he showed off his lean and slender frame and his tummy in general.
Although, there were multiple times where Jimmy has been extremely flustered at the sight of Tango.
Once, When tango was doing his redstone while you and Jimmy were watching, the blaze hybrid has asked for a comparator and while You were drooling over him, Jimmy grabbed a bucket and attempted to give it to the man.
"Jimmy," Tango said as he perched his red goggles on his head "That's a bucket."
With those words, The avian flushed a bright red and placed the bucket upside down on his head, and bolted having You and Tango run after him laughing and attempting to calm him down.
He was wearing his favorite shirt then, just like he was now.
"Powered by Redstone"
That had to be one of Tango's favorite phrases, especially when he's planning out his next masterpiece for his other dimension.
At least he thinks.
He doesn't quite remember, no one does. He says it's blurry and that he knows he was working on some huge build that needs a lot of redstone and attention but he can't quite remember what. He barely remembers friendships and relationships from people except those that are in this game right now.
The game was fun like that. it gives you an almost entirely blank slate, but it keeps important things and fears near your heart.
But you never would have thought you'd find love in a death game.
Sure it had only been a few days and it may be the red string of fate connecting you two but it felt so real and You know you would do this a thousand times over if you'd be able to feel like this again in your home server.
"yeah- Actually this shirt was once full length," Tango broke through your daze and you focus on him, He's gripping the bottom of his 'Powered by Redstone" crop, and a blaze rod is hovering over his shoulder when He says "But sometimes by blaze rods catch stuff and-"
And The shirt was up in flames before fluttering to the floor, a pile of ashes that was once his favorite shirt.
"AWWW MAN!" Tango whined as Jimmy looked away, face flushed the same shade as Tango's eyes and You oogled at the bare chest of Tango with a satisfied hum
But as much as you liked the show, You knew you'd have to talk with Jimmy later about this situation. Tango was already making a pout and sad noises escaped his lips. You couldn't bare to see the blaze hybrid like that.
=====
Hours later, in the dead of night, You whispered to the Avian in his ear "Jimmy? My Darling Topaz? Are you up?"
"Yes, my Love?" Jimmy groaned quietly and suddenly you were thankful, the both of them insisted you lay in the middle of your shared bed and that Tango sleeps like the dead "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine Topaz, I just wanted to ask if you wanted to do something for our Ruby. I feel bad that he lost his favorite shirt." You whisper and pull him close enough so that your lips brush the shell of his ear. A shiver ran down his back and he nodded.
"We could recreate his shirt again," Jimmy said and began to press soft kisses to your face "This time with a more durable fabric?"
"That works," You hummed and cupped his face to press a soft kiss to his lips "We can talk more about it in the morning. I love you My amazing Topaz."
"And I love you, My precious diamond." He whispered into your mouth, never stopping his gentle kisses and you couldn't help but melt into his touch
The next day, You awoke to Jimmy and Tango holding you tightly and you sighed with contentment, how you wish you could stay here all day, but the gods of old had other plans.
So you squirmed out of their arms, both shifting to hold each other and the pillow between them as if you were still there. You smiled and went to the kitchen to make a simple breakfast. Snagging some eggs from the chickens you guys are hoarding and carving some bacon off the carcass of a pig you slaughtered this morning, you made some bacon and egg and cut up some day-old bread for toast.
Jimmy was the first one up of the boys and watched as Y/n plated the breakfast as he leaned against the doorway, arms crossed over his bare chest, a soft smile gracing his lips.
"Good morning Topaz," You hummed and smiled at him before placing his plate on the table "Go eat, I'll wake up our ruby."
"You are the best," he said and pressed a kiss to your cheek "We can talk more about the shirt after breakfast when Tango goes out?"
"Alright," You smiled and placed a gentle hand on his chest before pressing a kiss to his lips "Enjoy."
You walked past him after he kissed back and went to wake up Tango.
"My lovely Ruby," You whisper in his ear as you crawl on top of him to sit on his waist "Time to wake up Tango, I made breakfast."
Tango groaned softly as his eyes fluttered open. Twin red jewels stared back into your eyes as a smile graced Tango's lips and he pulled you down to smother you in kisses, laughs bubbled from your chest as you playfully fought from his grip.
After a few seconds when he calmed down to just kisses, you heard his stomach rumble and he laughed.
"I think that's my cue to eat the breakfast you made," He said and swung his legs over the edge of the bed to get off "Come, Topaz is waiting."
"He's only waiting because you pulled me in to smother me!" You playfully whine out and allow him to drag you off the bed you share
After breakfast, Tango cleaned up the kitchen and Jimmy lit the fireplace. Y/n pulled Jimmy to dance with her while Tango cleaned and listened to their hushed giggles, They swayed in the warmth of their home, Jimmy humming into your ear as the sun dawned upon their home and the rooster crowed. Out of the corner of your eyes, you saw Tango watching from the kitchen with a gentle smile as he dried his hands and you beckoned him over. He and Jimmy switched spots and you swayed with Tango who whispered sweet words into your ears and eventually dragged Jimmy into the swaying, The three of you holding each other and talking softly. At least until Tango had to leave the house and You and Jimmy were left to your own devices.
"Okay," Y/n murmured and caught Jimmy's attention, "I know where to find and how to get fire resistance clothing. Only thing is, I don't know how to sew words."
"I can do that part," Jimmy said "It should be just like weaving a nest. Plus, my mom taught me how before I left her home."
"Perfect," You grinned at him "You are so great Jimmy."
A wobbly smile spread across his face as he flushed and covered his face with his hands. "You're too nice to me." He groaned softly which elicited a laugh from you
"No such thing as ever too nice. Now, let's get Tango's present together." You smile and hold out your hand to him
=====
Hours later, Tango came home calling out to the two who sat in the living room that he was going to take a shower and then probably nap. You and Jimmy sat on a rocking chair, you on Jimmy's lap reading and Jimmy rocking the chair, humming and peacefully stretching the words 'Powered by Redstone' into the shirt.
"Hey, Jimmy!" Tango's voice called out but the two were in their own world "Do you know where-"
Tango trailed off as he peeked into the living room and almost melted at the sight of his two lovers sitting together, his gems...
His home
A soft gasp snapped Tango out of his stupor and bring his gaze back to his partners. You were clutching something to your chest and using your body to hide it while jimmy tried to cover you and himself with his wings while exclaiming "Wait no! Wait! Don't look! It's not done!"
"Aww," Tango cooed and stepped closer to you and Jimmy "What is it?"
With a deep sigh, Jimmy unfurled his wings and showed you. You held out the shirt with a bashful expression while Jimmy explained "You were so sad after your favorite shirt got destroyed. So we thought we'd make you a new one."
Tango looked taken aback and turned red and you and jimmy immediately panicked.
"Oh god, you hate it!" You frowned and fiddled with your hands "I'm sorry, this was my idea and it was such a bad-"
"I don't know why I thought-" Jimmy cut himself off as he pouted and began to cover himself with his wings, an embarrassed blush spreading across his cheeks "I'm not even that good-"
This time Taango cut off Jimmy by lifting you up and kissing you... hard. Hard enough that you were dazed and had to stumble to another couch. Tango pulled Jimmy up by the collar of his shirt and kissed him with the same passion he kissed you with. Now that you were less dazed, you saw smoke rising from Tango's back in curls that looked like hearts and his red flush was still there and Jimmy's wings were flapping like crazy once he realized what was happening.
When he pulled away from Jimmy, He kept the avian close, his left arm wrapping around Jimmy's waist. "Come here Y/n," Tango whispered and you obliged
When you came close enough, he pulled you closer and wrapped his free arm around your waist, and pressed another kiss to your lips. You melted into his touch and leaned your forehead into the crook of his neck while he whispered
"I love it. It means so much to me that you two did this." He pressed a gentle kiss to yours and Jimmy's foreheads before continuing "Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you."

Right, walk with me as I dive into Canary Curse/SecretLife Martyn lore.
The current working theories are:
A: Jimmy is a sign of doom to his allies. Most of his allies have done poorly when partnered with him (Scott, Mumbo, Tango, Joel, and now Martyn), at least in reference to their usual abilities.
B: Watchers dislike Martyn. (And Jimmy)
These are valid in my mind and pair well with the phenomenon. However, I don't think it's exactly what is happening.
Which leads me to a mildly popular theory I'm still debating about (which will be my main point of this post):
Martyn is actively sacrificing himself for Jimmy.
It's not a poor theory, but I don't think it's accurate. For one, it doesn't fit wonderfully with Martyn's character (in game), which is untrustworthy, turncoat, and survivalist among other things.
But lets talk about why I DO like it first.
So this theory is similar to a different situation that happened in limited life. When Joel famously said after Jimmy died 'I was going to sacrifice myself for him, so he wouldn't go out first.' Most people have taken that to mean 'I was going to give him my time/let him perma-kill me.'
What's interesting about this is Joel is going about it in a very productive way. He is gathering time from other players, which he will then give to Jimmy to further Jimmy's odds. It could technically also imply that Joel doesn't plan to die instantly. If he has enough time he can share with Jimmy without full sacrifice.
Joel never got a chance to do this. Making the words tragic and full of broken hope, especially considering how he was then hunted by the majority of the server. Soon dying near where Jimmy fell.
Martyn's actions would be tragic in a very very different way.
This isn't a man being productive. this is a man actively self destroying. looking the universe in the face as he chooses to beat it just seconds before it can kill it's favorite punching bag.
I can not begin to describe how much this feels like a man clawing victory out of a race only he knows he's participating in. (Only he knows hes Winning)
Martyn is not Helping Jimmy's case. He isn't somehow giving him more time on earth or showering him in diamond armor until he's safe. This is not a story where the victory will come sweet, this is one where the victory is death. Not more time with friends and family. Death.
I genuinely love imagining that. Full stop.
However, I don't think it's the Reasoning behind Martyn's actions. (at least partly)
Martyn is known partly for Rebellion. Or at least, THINKING about rebellion. (see, that's an important detail)
Character Martyn always planned on betraying Ren. Always. He was going to mutiny, coup, whatever you want to call it, from day one.
In Double life he doesn't live with his soulmate. Actively, killing them at one point. In Last life he begins talking to Them, beginning his journey into becoming a Listener agent.
In Limited life he actively disobeys the unspoken rules of conduct. (Which, to be clear, I do not think actually EXIST). He steals peoples kills, he acts amicable only to knife people in the back seconds later, he killed people that are supposed to be his allies. In a game where everyone was loyal he he betrayed his closest ally to win the game.
Now. Here's where the Thinking comes into play.
Martyn is never actually rebelling.
Not in any meaningful way at least. It's like the crab in the bucket example, he's pulling other crabs down to get to the mouth of the bucket (winning) and in doing so he Thinks he's rebelling. But he's actually just playing into the Death Game.
throughout this whole thing the ONLY thing he can do to rebel would have been to simply not play the game.
(Which is technically true from a Meta stand point as well)
Martyn could have let himself die. Could have refused to kill. In doing so he is causing the most active form of rebellion against the people Watching, in that he is giving them nothing to watch. He is refusing to PLAY the Death Game.
Now. He didn't chose to do that...
But what if he did THIS time?
Martyn has succeeded his goal, he's won. He is the fourth winner of the life series. And guess what?
It got him SHIT.
An hour and a half of abject loneliness in an abandoned war torn server, all while he slowly waited to die. And after? No escape. No nothing, just right back into the Game.
It's a little like the universe is laughing at him.
"Oh, you thought this would make you Special? You thought this would beet us? This is exactly what we always wanted"
So that one goal Martyn's had since the beginning? Gone. Out the window. And if THAT option is gone, there's really only one left:
I don't think Martyn is trying to die first to save Jimmy. I think Martyn is trying to die first to beet the Watchers/Universe.
(After all. What's a bigger fuck you than breaking the most solid curse in the game?)

So I decided to listen to the two songs from the movie Bolt and I've decided they're both Rancher coded. The songs in question are I Thought I Lost You and Barking at the Moon. The first one could also be argued for Clock Duo because I love making everything them coded BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT OF THIS POST anyways for the first song:
Tumblr media
So this starts from Jimmy's perspective. Anyone who knows me and my Rancher writing (which how could you I've yet to post any) knows I love making Jimmy this pathetic man (I love my pathetic men <3) who - because of all the toy comments in Empires S2 - is constantly teased and lowkey bullied but not full on completely but he's kinda sensitve about it. Anyways that's what brings up the first two lines. Beyond that, this would be set after Double Life and poor Jimmy just can't stop thinking about his rancher! He's not completely sure on his feelings because typically relationships that form - whether it be positive or negative - stay within the traffic smp series and never follow the characters back home. But he's home and he's still got Tango on the brain. ALSO if you listen to the song, on the line "anything to get you from my head" there's this guitar riff and that's symbolizes Tango because when it comes to music, Jimmy is country and Tango is rock. Does that make sense? Does any of this make sense?
And so we continue! So with the soulmate bond gone, it's hard for JImmy to go day to day as if he doesn't miss that strong bond the two of them had. The line "Like somehow you could be the break" refers to how a part of JImmy hoped Tango would help him break his curse. The "promises" were most likely Tango one, vowing to help him stay alive and two, after they died, promising to somehow find him again before the next traffic smp season so they could be happy together in peace.
Tumblr media
This is the chorus! It's very much as seen; all Jimmy has of Tango are the memories they made on the ranch, and he thought that Tango wouldn't be able to find him again but he still held onto that hope. But as the lyrics say "and now I got you, but I thought I lost you" surprise! Tango IS there now! I'd say this would be the Empires crossover, like when they met in the tunnel aka the moment that has never left my mind ever and I always think of. Also in the chorus is when John Travolta joins Miley Cirus in singing, so that further adds to the reuinion!

So this is Tango's verse, and like with the chorus, it's pretty "as seen" with my interpretation. Tango is determined to find a way back to Jimmy despite not knowing how at all, maybe he'd see the open rift as an oppurtunity to. And he's referring to that second promise but also the first one as he's still anticipating when the next traffic season will happen aka lim life.
Then we jump back into the chorus, which stays the same.
Tumblr media
This is both of them, with Tango being the first two lines, Jimmy the second two, and both of them as the last two. This is them after the big reunion hug that shook the world. Tango's eagerly explaining how he never gave up, Jimmy's assuring him he never lost hope.
And then the rest of the song is essentially them being all gay and excited because they're together again yippee!!
That concludes my explantion of the first song so naturally, because this post isn't NEARLY long enough, we're doing the second one too!
Also with this second song, I'm kind of ignoring the allusions of cats and dogs just fyi
Tumblr media
This is so so Tango. He's a hard worker, married to the grind. The sun? Who's that? The guy who gives all his attention to his Decked Out 2 project (much like in S7 with the first one and the among us minigame) doesn't take much time to appreciate the simplistics of life. But having the ranch with Jimmy kind of forced him to sit back and take in the world around him and kind of slow down. It's like he's truly been reborn into a new life when he's with Jimmy and that doesn't mean his life before him was bad, but his rancher makes him feel more, understand more.
Tumblr media
Very much on point; the only place Jimmy and Tango truly feel at home is when they're with each other and on the ranch. They dream of running away together and living out the rest of their lives on a big ranch with enough plants and animals to keep themselves self-sustained. And with Tango's redstone prowess, they totally could.
Tumblr media
THIS IS JUST JIMMY THIS IS SO JIMMY YOU CANNOT CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE because this verse refers to his canary curse, how each season built up this hopelessness and depression. "I have been a lot of things, they may not all be true" is him saying that he's not defined by the canary imagery, by the canary curse that follows him. He's also not defined by the toy titles the other Empires members would throw at him. "My experience was so mysterious, till I met you" once again referring to the canary curse and Double Life with Tango. Being with him, not just as soulmates but with him as a romantic partner, suddenly everything in his life made sense. Tango was that missing puzzle piece that somehow ended up under the couch even though the puzzle was opened on the dining room table. And now that he's found him, his life is whole.
Anyways the rest of the song is just repeating the chorus, which just doubles (haha) down on the points I made earlier with the chorus. But at the end of the song, when Jenny Lewis sings "there is no home like the one you got, cause that home belongs to you" one final time, the song is like, slowing down. That's Tango and Jimmy finally settling down together on their dream ranch, feeling content with the life they're going to spend together.
And that concludes the longest tumblr post I've ever made to date. Am I mentally well? Should I look into being diagnosed with literally anything? Are there probably songs that fit them so much better? These sure are questions!
What mainly inspired this was sincerely-nines asking for songs that made people think of Ranchers, and then I saw a tiktok reminding me of one of the Bolt songs, and the pieces connected and here we are! If you read the whole thing, I award you a farm animal sticker of your choice.

huge fan of how they did this 1.20 update so far. the changes really do feel like “they are doing things to make minecraft more minecraft”, just adding several small things that makes everything feel nicer is exactly what i want from an update. just… small details! huge fan of that! also a big fan of them going “we are only going to show you features that are done”. it does mean we don’t actually get to know what they’re planning until it’s about to be in a snapshot, which will be an adjustment, but it’ll prevent all the nonsense that happened around 1.19, so I’m a fan. overall, like how 1.20 is looking!

genuinely all the pairs are insane. shoutout, for example, to tango and jimmy, the single most doomed pair of people i can possibly imagine. mr. “dies with tragic futility” and mr. “dies first despite his best efforts” are on the same team AND one of them was already blown up by a creeper. i cannot imagine a more “will die first” pairing. those poor boys i’m already planning their funeral,

“Alright,” Jevin says, “now you just have to give the egg basket back.”
Grian stares at him with big, black, soulful eyes, and holds the basket closer to himself. “...give... you... the eggs...?”
Jevin closes his eyes and mentally counts to five before opening them again. “Yeah. That was the point of the game, right? Collect the eggs and then give them back to prove you’d found them.”
Grian continues to stare.
“So you hand me the basket...”
“Are... are you keeping an eye on them?” Grian asks.
“Keeping an eye on the eggs.”
“Well, it’s a dangerous world out there,” Grian says. “You never know when some maniac with TNT might show up. Probably best to just keep these in my ne- base. Keep these in my base.”
“A maniac with TNT?“ says Jevin, in a tone of voice he hopes conveys exactly who the maniac with TNT normally is on the server.
“You never know,” Grian says. “You’ve seen the eggs now. You know I found them. Really, what do you need all those eggs for? Surely you won’t miss these, right?”
Jevin sighs. “Yes, but I need the eggs to prove you didn’t cheat. You can’t win unless you turn them in.”
Grian stares blankly at Jevin, big black eyes watering as he tries to decide between winning (a thing Grian is very bad at giving up on) and, presumably, some stupid bird instinct that’s refusing to let him let go of the eggs. Jevin’s not sure which one is winning. He is sure, however, that he is slightly regretting making the egg hunt actually use eggs.
Because, he thinks wryly, it’s hardly just Grian.
“Jevin,” Doc says, landing on the platform to the egg hunt central area. Grian makes a sound somewhere between a hiss and a squawk and pulls his shulker full of carefully-padded and protected eggs closer to his chest. “I have found all of my eggs.”
“Excellent! Now, if you’ll hand them over -”
Doc is holding a shulker close to his chest. “Give you my eggs? Don’t be ridiculous.”
...the worst part, Jevin thinks, as he tries to figure out how to negotiate with a bunch of hybrids who haven’t slept in too long and therefore don’t realize they’re being irrational, is that the others are almost certainly going to insist on playing again next year. Something about optimal hiding spots. Next year, though, he swears: he’s not calling them eggs.

general writing advice, actually: you don’t need an excuse beyond “BUT WOULDN’T THIS BE COOL” to write something into your fic. write things in solely because they make you cackle with the delight of a 12-year-old-boy playing with his dinosaur toys. it’s fun and there’s nothing stopping you or any of us at all any longer.

fights (p1?)
this might be a two parter but idk tell me if you’d want a p2
anyway I thought this idea was cool so here you go
scott has been acting.. odd lately. tango can’t quite understand it, but he keeps shooting him suspicious looks and seems weirdly defensive around him.
he hasn’t mentioned this to anyone— not even jimmy. he’s pretty sure he’s just imagining it. it’s double life after all, everyone is slightly mistrusting of each other. but it feels weird; almost pointed.
of course, everyone has been slightly wary of him since he brought the warden up to the surface, but scott has been acting like that for a while, and he isn’t sure how to respond to it.
so, of course, he ignores it. and it works. it works, that is, until everyone on the server groups together to make a plan to take down the warden.
“okay, so it’s currently stuck in the ravine.” etho says, addressing the circle of people. “we know it has that sonic boom thing, so we can’t get too close.”
“and it has like 500 hearts.” joel nods. “so if we’re gonna take it down by arrows, it’s gonna take a while.”
“this seems like a job for hawkeye!” scar announces. grian laughs and the hermitcrafters nod appreciatively.
“I mean, that might actually work.” impulse says.
“yeah, you’d be surprised what this guy can do with a bow.” pearl agrees. “killed me, like, twice in a row.”
tango notices the glare scott shoots her. he’d heard about their.. ah, breakup.
“I won’t believe it until I see it.” joel grins. “this is the man who died in hardcore because his wings broke.”
“and took my helmet with him.” grian grumbles.
“is that why you won’t let me wear a helmet?” scar asks.
“partially.” grian says.
“okay, okay, that’s not the point.” etho interrupts. “shooting it seems like a good idea right now, unless anyone has any other ideas?”
“we could drop tnt on it?” tango suggests. “I know it doesn’t break blocks in water but it might hurt it.”
scott is frowning at him. “the tnt would explode before it was halfway down the ravine.” he said.
“actually, it might not.” grian pipes up. “I know a considerable amount about tnt and the ravine might just be the right height to drop some in.”
“well, we don’t have any sand.” scott shoots back. “it’d be too expensive.”
tango glances to his side at jimmy, who looks just as confused as him when he mouths ‘what’s his problem?’
“well, we know one person with the stuff for tnt.” joel looks pointedly at grian.
“oh, no, we don’t have any sand.” grian says smoothly. “someone mined it all out before we could find any.”
“mhm.” martin says. “and this isn’t at all reminiscent of the desert.”
“guys, guys, if we had any tnt we’d be using it to help defeat the warden!” scar cuts in. he’s using his salesman voice. “you know we’re honest! uhm- mostly.”
no one seems convinced, but they drop the topic when etho says,
“alright, so currently arrows are the biggest priority. we need to get a lot— it’s not like we can go down there and collect the ones that miss.”
“this is all assuming the warden won’t climb the ravine and get us.” jimmy says. “i may be mistaken but didn’t it follow you guys up the 1 by 2 staircase one time?”
“it almost did.” martin says. “it just sonic-ed us.”
jimmy looks unconvinced. tango takes his hand and squeezes it, making him smile. when tango turns back to the group, scott is glaring at him. if looks could kill, tango’d be dead.
apparently it’s not unnoticed by the others, as cleo asks, “scott, are you okay?”
“i’m fine.” he says stiffly, turning away from tango.
“o..kay.” etho says, looking slightly awkward. “so, we should go and make as many arrows and bows as we can. meet up back here when we call you.”
they all disperse, jimmy and tango headed towards their ranch where they have chickens. they’re still holding hands, and neither of them think anything of it until scott comes up behind them and places a hand on tango’s shoulder.
“can I talk to you for a minute?” he says in a tone of voice that makes it sound very much not like a question.
“uh, sure.” tango says.
“i’ll wait for you here.” jimmy says.
tango smiles “sounds good.”
scott takes him out of earshot, behind a straggle of bushes.
“what are you doing?” he demands. “what are you planning with him?
tango is taken aback. “you- what?”
“don’t pretend you don’t know.” scott growls. “what are you doing with jimmy?”
“i’m.. building a ranch with him?” tango says, unsure if that’s what scott meant. what was going on?
“like hell.” scott spits. “you’re using him, I know it.”
“using him?!” tango steps backwards. “what are you on about?”
“i’ve known jimmy longer than you.” scott says. “everyone he’s ever partnered with has underestimated him or used him for some kind of labourer. I won’t have you doing that to him.”
“you think i’m using him for- for labour?!” tango exclaims. “what, because i’m nice to him? because we’re in a healthy relationship?”
“you know damn well-“
“look, just because you used him in 3rd life doesn’t mean I will.” tango snarls, his chest growing hot with anger.
“you dare-“
“you are such a hypocrite.” tango says. “didn’t you just say everyone he’s partnered with used him?”
“I obviously didn’t mean me.” scott scoffs.
“oh, didn’t you?” tango steps forward, his eyes blazing. “why are you so concerned I will too then?”
“because everyone else has, and I can’t deal with seeing him treated like that again, okay?!” scott shouts. “he died first, no matter how hard I tried to protect him. then he died first again, because everyone abandoned him. I won’t have it happen a third time, do you understand me?”
tango’s anger subsides slightly. “well, i’m not the southlanders.” he says defiantly. “and i’m not you. we may have died first, but we will leave last.”
he turns away from scott. “and let me make one thing clear. you stay away from us with your ‘relationship ranch’, or i’ll throw both you and cleo to the warden.”
he stalks off, knowing his hair is burning with fury.
jimmy jogs up to him, worry on his face. “what happened?” he asks, taking tango’s hands.
“your ex is salty.” tango spits.
jimmy’s expression hardens. “of course.”
“I told him to stay away or i’d feed him to the warden.” he says, noticing that his hands are shaking with anger.
“i’ll add him to the banned board.” jimmy says.
tango feels his rage slip slightly, and he thinks about what scott said. a tinge of guilt pangs in his chest, but he’s still angry enough to ignore it.
scott would not assume something like that about him and get away with it. not on his watch

I had an epiphany while taking a shower and couldn't stop thinking about what if Martyn, as a Listener, could hear all the deaths in the life series. Long story short, I blacked out and when I woke up I had written 5000 words about minecraft men. Enjoy!
SPOILERS FOR LIMITED LIFE
---
"Why don't we all just die, and then we go down to less than an hour each?"
"No armor, no shield."
Martyn says something, a joke perhaps.
He still feels the sound of the deaths echoing in his ears.
Jimmy had been the first to fall, the song of a terrified canary falling in a swirl of feathers.
Then it was Skizz. Martyn had never heard such a peaceful death. The tolling of the bell had sounded like a promise.
Joel had died trying to avenge his fallen ally. There was a desperation in his Sound, a frenzy that somehow carried over into the wolf howl that lingered for hours in the air.
And so it went, one after the other. Each with its own Sound, and Martyn had Listened to each and every one of them. Bdubs was an ancient clock. Tango had been sudden, muffled scream that died away almost at once. Scar sounded like a betrayal, an explosion and then nothing. He'd known right away when Cleo died; after all, they had been soulmates. Martyn would never forget the zombie howl that had accompanied him throughout all of Double Life, even if he wasn't always on better terms with his partner. Bigb and Pearl; always nosing around, always Watching. Their Sound, like Grian's, was as old as time itself. Etho's death he himself had been a part of, but he had heard nothing in the end. Bloodlust had overcome him, like a true Red, and Etho was always very stealthy anyway.
Martyn Listened to each and every death, and tried not to let the rage get the better of him.
In a server full of death, being a Listener is like torture; sounds everywhere, the ticking of all the clocks at once as if they were one. Martyn had retreated to shore in the hope that the waves would block out the cacophony of death, but it barely covered it.
That isn't the worst of it though. No, that would be the murmurs. For beings meant to only Watch, boy are they loud. They are particularly noisy now, clearly interested in what Scott is proposing.
His blood boils under his skin, but he barely manages to control himself. He returns to the conversation and tries to ignore the voices.
"...like our forefathers," Scott says.
Impulse nods, solemn.
"For those that have fallen before us."
Scott keeps talking, oblivious to the voices surrounding them. Martyn feels himself nodding, but he's on autopilot. He can Listen to Them. The Watchers are elated, he can hear them anticipating the slaughter.
They had been so excited with each kill, cheering with each Player who disappeared in a blaze and a scream on their lips.
He could almost see it; one of them, standing still before two cold bodies of those who used to be his enemies, his allies. Hands and eyes dripping crimson blood.
The Watchers would cheer, once again basking in death but too cowardly to engage in it. There would be a winner, once again, but it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter and it never mattered because the Watchers don't care who lives and who dies, only that something happens, that it's entertaining enough and worth Watching. It doesn't matter. Nothing matters.
His vision turns red.
He won't let them win, not again.
"Nah, I don't wanna play this silly game."
He punches Scott, pouring a bucket of lava over his head. Before he can scream, he's already plunging his sword into his ally's stomach.
A sea wave fills his hearing for a few moments. Martyn shakes his head.
He feels a pang of remorse, but he can still hear the murmurs. They won't give up, not unless he ends this. He grits his teeth.
He turns to Impulse. He can hear their shouts of surprise, vaguely, but refuses to listen. He has heard enough.
"I wanna do it this way. I wanna do it exactly this way! It doesn't matter if you're a Mean Gill or a Bad Boy or a Neighbour or a Clocker!"
He chases Impulse for a while, the unarmed man is hardly a match for his full gear. His sword pierces Impulse through the back. The echoing thunder blankets everything, and Martyn allows the bloodlust to overcome him for a moment. For a moment, he is a Red, and blood covers his vision.
"YOU'RE ALL GOING DOWN!" he roars, euphoric. "NONE of these niceties! This is a death match for a reason!"
The Watchers are not happy. Their murmurs no longer ring in his ears. For once, he Hears nothing, not even his own ticking. All is silent.
He grimaces to the sky, baring his teeth. His red eyes sparkle. His head is beating; he can barely feel his limbs. He is the pure image of a Red, the bodies of his once friends at his feet. It feels amazing! It was so easy!
"Oh that feels GOOD! Time is delicious! HAHAHAHAHA!"
He doesn't know how much time he spends laughing, shouting nonsense at the clouds. There is a strange fog covering his mind, getting thicker and thicker. He vaguely hears his own ticking, time descending further and further, but Martyn knows it doesn't matter anymore.
He hears a countdown. It's Them, of course it is. Dozens of voices singing in unison, waiting. Watching.
The countdown ends.
One second, he's on the battlefield, blood staining his hands. The next, he's falling.
The laughter dies on his lips.
He can't hear the ticking at all. His time is up.
They are gone.
They are gone, and Martyn is falling.
He's a comet, and he's falling.
Martyn is free.
