i'd like to think chuuya knows bits of french to some extent bc rimbaud would often randomly exclaim smth or mumble to himself in his native tongue and chuuya would overhear and pick up the little phrases and store it in the back of his mind unconsciously bc of his intrinsically observant nature, only for those phrases to resurface again when he's fighting verlaine and verlaine goes "sacre bleu!" or some shit and chuuya's like "Oh. OH. IVE HEARD THAT BEFORE...WASNT THAT WHAT SUB EXEC RANDOU ALWAYS USED TO SAY...." and verlaine completely halts with a nebulous expression on his face before going "who?????"

Okay I’ve been thinking on it and

I don’t think coach Ben set the fire.

We see him take the matches and an axe from outside the cabin, and then we see him watch as everyone bows to Natalie. Later the cabin catches on fire, almost kills the girls, and the conclusion most of us have drawn was that coach set the fire.

I think it’s a misdirect. Earlier in the episode, we see coach hiding out in Javi’s cave area, and he’s using flint to (unsuccessfully) start a fire. He takes the matches and supplies bc this man can’t start a fire!!

What happened when Laura Lee tried to escape using the plane? Her teddy bear burst into flames, taking the plane down. We know that the wilderness can spontaneously combust things, and that fire? The cabin was covered in snow. It was wet wood, damp at the very least. We see the fire spread to completely engulf the cabin in a matter of minutes. Maybe it’s tv magic, but fire doesn’t spread that fast on wet wood.

There’s spirituality and there’s survival. Lottie taught them how to listen. The cabin taught them how to survive. They don’t need the cabin now like they used to, the same way they don’t need Lottie like they used to.

I believe Theo not only can speak french, but is even MORE fluent in reading french than english. The Doctors may have talked to him in both languages but I bet most of their books and notes were in french and Theo got used to only reading in this language

listen man i am in shambles about this story line if i am understanding it right:

duolingo is great bc i had to call a client today to yell at them politely ask why they were ghosting me, and when i got through to their office and asked to speak to my contact they just made confused noises at me THEN HUNG UP

so fuelled by the power of indignation and duolingo i immediately called back and once again oh-so-politely asked if i could please please please speak to their colleague BUT IN ITALIAN THIS TIME

and lo and behold i got an answer that time. grazie mille 💚
