Blog Update!
Hello everyone and Happy Mother’s Day! Hope those who celebrate it have a wonderful day with their moms/celebrate if you are one! I am making this post just to give a general update on things since my summer semester is starting tomorrow.
First, my schedule is actually a lot more hectic than I thought it was going to be, with my Mon-Weds super booked up till the late evening hours with everything from work to meetings to preparation for my PH.D program (which I didn’t actually mention that when it happened but I got into my dream PH.D program that I’ll be starting in the fall!). I also have a heavy meeting filled day (4 over hour meetings) on Thursdays bi weekly, and while I have Fri-Sun off every week, that time is either gonna be spent traveling (like I have a memorial day weekend trip I start on the 25th, which happens to be my birthday actually, to see family), doing thesis work (which has been the biggest source of stress for me, especially with participants continuing to drop out or not respond to me), or the rest of my coursework stuff so I can hopefully graduate with my masters this summer!
What that means for my bloggos is that I’m going to be probably very sporadic/low activity, even more so than before. I am planning to set aside at least one day as a me day to just relax (probably going to be Saturday), but honestly with how hectics things are getting, I wonder if I’ll even be using that day for something.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know what's going on. That doesn’t mean I still don’t want to write, I do! But just expect things to be slow.
I also took the chance to clear out my drafts of things I have not responded to yet (not my inbox) that had been building up for months that I’ve lost motivation for. I would love to start new things with people, plot new things, and do all the things with my mutuals! I definitely are going to need the stress relief from school for sure, and this is a main way I relax.
Thank you all for understanding and being so patient with me. I very much love and appreciate all of you for sticking with me, even with my random changes in muse status, fandom interests, etc.
I hope you all have a wonderful day, and know that you’re all amazing and keep doing what you love. <3

Fastdrafting HtDO: Week 1 Summary
Sorry I've been so quiet, but I swear it's for good reason! It's been a FANTASTIC starting week, let me tell y'all. By focusing on "writing ANYTHING" over "writing perfectly," I've partially drafted up to Chapter 4 and completely finished Chapters 5 and 6. I'm going to list my word progress, goals for next week, and then end off with a little excerpt!
Sun 2/20 | 1064 / 950 Mon 2/21 | 1070 / 950 Wed 2/23 | 955 / 950 Thu 2/24 ( not a required writing day! ) | 543/0 Fri 2/25 (not a required writing day! ) | 702/0 Saturday 2/26 | 776/950 Total word count: 5100 / 3800 WIP grand total, including pre-FD: 7375
Next week and weeks after, I can lower my weekly word count to 3600!
I have found I LOVE pre-writing. I just start by commenting a little paragraph of what Vibes I want the chapter to have and roughly what I want to accomplish, and it makes everything after so much easier.

Excerpt below the cut. Content warnings: death, grief, food.
EXCERPT FROM CHAPTER 5: IN WHICH RIMON AVOIDS THEIR GRIEF (AND THE SHIVA) BY DOING DISHES
The hours ticked by, swathes of people pulsing in and out of the arteries of the house. At one point, Rimon wasn’t quite sure which, the hand-washing pitcher at the door was emptied, and, extracting themself from the wet embraces of the Rosenbaums, retrieved it. The kitchen, blissfully, was still, and Rimon navigated the mighty porcelain under the arching neck of the faucet, setting it on the bottom of the sink. They stared into the abyss of the jug’s mouth as it filled. The void rushed with tap water, bubbling on the sides from the force of the spray. As it threatened the rim, Rimon shut off the water, and maneuvered the pitcher with shaky hands. The pitcher trembled in their unsteady grip, a force to behold.
Gaze finally broken from the trance of the water, Rimon glanced back to the sink. It was a double one, and on the righthand side, dishes stacked despairingly, unaddressed for who knows how long. Someone should really do those, Rimon rolled the mental image over in their mind as they returned the pitcher to the foyer. The dishes repeated in their mind like a roll of film, still image after image, but as they turned their heavy frame to return to the sanctuary of the kitchen, a tiny figure swept in front of them.
“Rimon,” croaked a tiny little woman happily, clasping their hands. “My dear! It’s been so long.”
“Ah,” Rimon forced a smile. “Mrs. Feldman, it has... I’m sorry, I—”
But alas, it was too late. “My, have you gotten even taller?” The tiny elf of a woman peered up through lenses as thick as Rimon’s wrist. “How is work in Te’ena going? I was talking to Devorah earlier, and...”
Rimon’s mind was blank except for the roaring of the kitchen sink and the image of those dishes. Mrs. Feldman spoke in a trembling tone for several minutes, delicate but unbroken. Minutes that soon felt like hours, a cycle of nods and half-formed excuses to leave the conversation. The topics trudged aimlessly through Te’ena, the sweetness of Jake’s life, and Mrs. Feldman’s grandchildren. Finally, the internal noise, rushing desperately to keep the fragile peace in Rimon’s vacant mind, could bear it no more.
“Mrs. Feldman,” Rimon said, gripping the elderly lady’s paper-thin wrists with urgency and care, “I have to see to the mourners, I’m so sorry.”
“Oh yes, yes of course my dear,” Mrs. Feldman replied, clasping Rimon’s wrists back and making tiny steps toward the next target of her “quick catching up.” “Take care, Rimon, and say hello to your family. Oh, they are doing well, I hope? Is—”
“Yes,” Rimon replied hurriedly, already halfway across the room.
Scrtch, scrtch, scrtch.
Lavender-scented suds enveloped the sponge wand as it traced ritual circles in the deep serving tray. The water was impossibly hot, hot that penetrated down to the bone. Yet Rimon's beige hands proceeded gloveless, unfazed.
Fsshhhhh. The steam curled into the air. Rimon's mechanations continued, scrubbing spirals until the volcanic water washed the dish clean. Then it was set aside on the counter, joining the others in neat rows. A private mortuary of clean china.
Rimon's side hummed with the static electricity of a companion; Dev had joined them. But she said nothing, and so Rimon's focus remained on the assembly line. Biggest platters first, cooking utensils next, traditional dishes, glassware, ending with the cutlery.
Dev swept a methodical dishrag over the sudsy counter lip, brushing Rimon's linen shirt. Though hidden well by the onyx weave, it was now soaked with dish water, hot and clammy. Dev's jaw twitched, and she leaned in, keeping unbroken eye contact with the outline of Rimon's pupil, averted to the sink.
"Have you eaten?"
Rimon halted, trance broken, before shaking their head. As if summoned, the snarl of hunger washed over their stomach. Dev tsked and welcomed herself into the kitchen, opening cupboards in brisk succession until she found the pantry. She disappeared behind Rimon's broad shoulders, out of their line of sight. The thnk, thnk, thnk of metal striking wood filled the quiet air. Heady scents of onion, dill, chives, and garlic engulfed the room. Rimon breathed deeply, ushering the scents in like old friends, and closed their eyes. Oil sizzled in a pan, volume rising sharply as ingredients were tossed in. The fridge door creaked open, snapped shut. Eggshells crinkled under the guidance of Dev's measured hands. The hinge of the toaster locked into place.
And so a different rhythm was established; crackle, thunk, sizzle, creak. From pan to counter to fridge and back again. Rimon opened their eyes and turned to watch. Dev moved less like a chef, more like a surgeon; precise, diligent, unyielding. A spoon in the mixture to taste, the ke-sha, ke-sha of a salt shaker. crackle, thunk, shhhhh, thunk. The dial in charge of the gas flame snapped into the off position. The clink of fork and china on counter, retrieved from the army of clean dishes. The contents of the pan were transferred onto the plate. Dev set it on the island in the center of the kitchen, and with a firm hand on Rimon's back, she compelled them to sit at one of the clustered bar stools.
The white plate lay solitary on the marble. Upon it was rich, golden egg crowned with chives and dill, encircled by wedges of blistered tomato. Scattered into the omelet was crisp, diced garlic and honey-colored onion. Rimon's mouth watered, and they barely registered Dev pushing the fork into their hand before they were practically inhaling the first bites.
"Slower," Dev snapped, and Rimon had no choice but to obey as the first taste burned the lining of their mouth. They breathed through their nose, as if that could possibly help. When it inevitably didn’t, they chewed more rapidly and swallowed, looking sheepishly up at Dev. She rolled her eyes and turned her back, returning from the sink with cold tap water in hand.
The next bite, more than a minute later, was small and calculated. As Rimon relished in the flavors rolling over their palate, they glanced up from their eggs to meet Dev’s gaze. As Dev gazed back, an unspoken exchange of gratitude and understanding settled between them. They wouldn’t have to share, or portion leftovers, or feel as if they were taking from those who truly needed it. A slice of sanctuary, all to themselves, cooked not for the mourners but between friends. A selfish piece of serenity in the midst of ceaseless grief and chaos.

CHERRY MAGIC TIMELINE (DRAMA CANON)
I rewatched Cherry Magic over the last couple days as one does and thought it’d be fun to keep track of the dates/when things happen. For the most part it’s very easy as there are several very specific dates mentioned in the show.
You might notice several Saturdays where they’re at work-- this seems to be pretty standard in Japanese office culture, to work a couple Saturdays a month.
You also might notice a very major time jump that would have happened between Episodes 10 and 11-- I could write this off as a suspension of disbelief type thing, but since there are so many specific dates referenced in the show, and going off Adachi’s pain at keeping his secret from Kurosawa for so long in Ep 11 I think it might be accurate. Please let me know if I missed anything!! :)
Sometime in 2013 - Adachi and Kurosawa are both hired at Toyokawa. The dinner with President Matsuura happens and Kurosawa falls in love with the first person who's ever told him he's more than a pretty face.
Feb 14 2020 - Kurosawa gives Adachi some free chocolate he got off the street.
Oct 1 2020 - Urabe teases Adachi for never having had a girlfriend, tells him of the urban legend of becoming a 30 y/o virgin wizard.
Fri Oct 2 - Adachi's 30th birthday, he discovers his powers.
Fri Oct 9: this is the day the episode aired, and it also works with the timeline in later episodes - Adachi bumps into Kurosawa in the elevator and discovers his feelings. That night Kurosawa offers to help Adachi with his extra work, they're there so late Adachi misses the last train and Kurosawa insists Adachi stay over at his place. We get scarf wrapping, geeking out over manga, Kurosawa fantasising about Adachi in his jammies, neither of them can sleep.
Sat Oct 10 - Kurosawa makes them breakfast. At the office Kurosawa scolds Urabe for putting down Adachi's work. At the end of the day Kurosawa offers some files to help Adachi with the extra work Urabe gave him. Adachi chases after him and asks him out for dinner, but Rokkaku interrupts before they can go and tells them to come out drinking. We get Kurosawa lamenting over the lost date, Adachi helping out Rokkaku, The King's Game drama. Adachi goes to comfort Kurosawa and we have Kurosawa being sad and gay and Adachi assuring him he's just an anxious virgin and Rokkaku interrupts an almost kiss.
Oct 11-Oct 25 - Adachi avoids Kurosawa.
Mon Oct 26 - Urabe asks Adachi and Fujisaki to go buy desserts, they talk about love and life, and are harrassed on the way back to the office. Kurosawa comes to the rescue. Adachi discovers Fujisaki is the aroace queen of our dreams. Kurosawa patches up Adachi’s hand. Kurosawa has trouble with a big client and Adachi uses his power to help. Kurosawa thanks him and gives him a couple mochi cakes as thanks. Rokkaku invites Adachi for lunch, giving him a bunch of food and snacks in thanks for his help at drinks a couple weeks ago. As the two are leaving work that night they see a beautiful woman run up to Kurosawa and beg to stay the night with him. Adachi walks home in the rain and falls asleep in his wet clothes in a fit of despair.
Tue Oct 27 - Adachi is sick all day, and goes to leave work early. Kurosawa notices and insists on taking him home, and as they’re getting into a taxi the woman from the night before jumps in. She turns out to be Kurosawa’s sister and demands to stay over at Kurosawa’s again, making him go home with Adachi to care for him. Kurosawa spends the whole night nursing Adachi back to health.
Wed Oct 28: Kurosawa directly references the date, and it retroactively works for all the previous dates - Kurosawa makes Adachi porridge, and the “day one of our private sweet life!” fantasy. Rokkaku interrupts again, and asks to join Kurosawa and Adachi for the night. We get Kurosawa being adorably jealous, Adachi being a very sweet and supportive friend. Kurosawa thinks about how special Adachi is to him and wonders what he’s doing to himself and leaves in the middle of the night.
Thurs Oct 29 - Adachi is worried over Kurosawa leaving early and his distance throughout the day. As they leave the office Adachi awkwardly talks about how he’s never had anyone to take care of him other than family, and Kurosawa tells him he can’t stay with Adachi anymore. He confesses his feelings and claims the next time they see each other everything will be back to normal.
Fri Oct 30: When Adachi is confessing, he mentions “yesterday” so this does happen the next day - Kurosawa is away in Osaka for the day and reflects over his history with Adachi, and how he has to let go of his feelings. Adachi realizes how much he enjoys Kurosawa’s company and how he’s always thinking about him, and runs to meet Kurosawa on his way home. He confesses his feelings and they hug and we all cry, and as they walk home Adachi asks if he wants to go out to eat and Kurosawa teases him about going to his place.
Sat Oct 31 - Kurosawa bought a one-way ticket to flirt city this morning. He finds Adachi in the break room and asks him to spend the day together tomorrow.
Sun Nov 1 - Tsuge shows up at Adachi’s right before Kurosawa, and we have some prime clown to clown communication while Tsuge talks about how he agreed to go watch Minato dance. Kurosawa suggests they all go and we get: Tsuge being awkward around his crush, Kurosawa and Adachi giggling over Tsuge being awkward around his crush, a fight and Kurosawa blanking out for a solid four seconds over being called ossan. We get some more clown to clown communication, Adachi and Kurosawa walking home and having a very sweet conversation about taking things step by step, Tsuge catches Minato’s friend kissing him and runs away.
Tue Nov 10: Adachi refers to how they’ve been dating for 9 days - Kurosawa apparently stayed the night and they played video games together aww, they have a goofy morning together being in love. Urabe points out how happy Adachi is lately. Kurosawa and Adachi share onigiri for lunch and Rokkaku interrupts again. As they’re leaving the break room Kurosawa asks Adachi to have another go at their date this coming weekend and they see the poster for the design competition. Rokkaku later finds Adachi and angrily asks him to contact Tsuge. That night after work Adachi, Kurosawa, and Rokkaku meet Tsuge at a coffee shop and Rokkaku immediately starts a fight with Tsuge over his apparent homophobia, since he’s been avoiding Minato ever since he caught him kissing his ex. Tsuge assures them he has been avoiding Minato but not because he’s gay, and runs off to find Minato and they confess to each other, and later that evening have sex. As Kurosawa and Adachi walk home Kurosawa gives him the forms to sign up for the design competition, saying he’ll be rooting for him if he gives it a try. Adachi says Kurosawa has given him the confidence to try and they hug.
Wed Nov 11 - Rokkaku thanks Adachi for his help with Tsuge and Minato. Adachi hands in his application for the design competition.
Sometime in the next couple days - Adachi and Kurosawa go for coffee after work where Adachi apologizes for how much of his time the competition will take, and Kurosawa says their date can wait, but he’ll be expecting a reward later. Tsuge calls Adachi to gush over his relationship with Minato and tell Adachi not to be afraid of losing his magic, and Adachi starts to really think about being intimate with Kurosawa.
Sat Nov 14: Adachi mentions how there’s only three days until the deadline for his proposal. On the application form, it says the proposals are due by 5pm Nov 17th - Adachi shows his ideas to Fujisaki and Kurosawa, but Rokkaku calls it boring. Kurosawa tells him not to worry about it, that inspiration sometimes comes from nowhere.
Sun Nov 15 - Adachi and Kurosawa are hanging out at Adachi’s place, and they talk about the expectations of other people. Kurosawa suggests they get out to clear their heads and have a “practise date”. We get the sweetest montage of them having fun at Tokyo Dome, and then when Adachi gets sick Kurosawa privately worries about not being able to always keep Adachi happy. That night Adachi finishes his project proposal.
Mon Nov 16: Adachi refers to their date as “yesterday” - Adachi hands in his proposal, and asks Kurosawa to have another practice date with him that evening. He takes them to the bookstore and izakaya, and Adachi shows Kurosawa his proposal. They have a conversation about communication and how they should be able to relax around each other. As they are walking home Adachi accidentally responds to Kurosawa’s thoughts and thinks about how if Kurosawa knew they couldn’t be together in the same way anymore.
Sun Dec 13: This one is mostly speculation, but I feel it works as the conversation between Adachi and Tsuge is so fresh in his mind the next day, and Adachi also refers to Tsuge’s problems when they see each other on Christmas Eve - Tsuge and Adachi get lunch and Tsuge talks about his relationship troubles, and warns Adachi about not relying too much on his power.
Mon Dec 14: Kurosawa mentions how they have a week to prepare for Adachi’s presentation - Adachi has passed into the second phase of the design competition, and Kurosawa promises to spend all their time special training for his presentation. Adachi apologizes for how much of Kurosawa’s time he’s taking up, but Kurosawa assures him it will all be worth it to enjoy their “first Christmas together and the best date ever”.
Dec 16/17/18 - Montage of the two of them preparing for Adachi’s presentation. It’s also at some point during this week Kurosawa talks to Fujisaki about a restaurant for his date with Adachi.
Mon Dec 21 - Also known as Kurosawa and Adachi’s Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Kurosawa gives Adachi a bento reminding him to believe in himself, Adachi uses his power to connect with the planning and development committee and then feels guilty for cheating and then doesn’t pass anyway. Adachi tells Kurosawa about his powers and then admits he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to be in a relationship with him if he doesn’t have them, and they break up :(
Dec 22/23 - Kurosawa and Adachi are very sad and literally everybody knows. Urabe and Fujisaki both have conversations with Adachi about being happy/true to himself.
Thurs Dec 24 - Tsuge goes to see Adachi and tells him that he has to learn to communicate with the people he loves, even if it’s hard. Adachi races off to meet Kurosawa, they reconcile and hug and Kurosawa asks Adachi to be his office pal for life and fireworks go off and everyone’s cryin’.
Fri Dec 25 - First day of the rest of their private sweet life!!
Sometime over the next couple months - Rokkaku tries to suss out what Adachi and Kurosawa’s relationship and determines they’re just really good senpais to him... truly pure of heart, dumb of ass. Tsuge and Minato have a misunderstanding and then talk it out.
Feb 14 2021 - Kurosawa is in a jealous fit all day over himself, and then he and Adachi exchange true love chocolate <3

RWRB Timeline
I originally worked out the timeline for Sep. 27, 2020, and when people suggested I post it on tumblr, I said fuck it and did the whole book.
Go big or go home, right?
I have spent the past 3 days working on this. It’s half summaries of the events of the days in order, and half “here’s a one sentence summary of the day”.
Whenever possible, I’ve detailed out when things happen by the hour, like the day at Wimbledon, or the email leak day, including guesstimations on flight times, and what time EST and BST Alex is taking off and landing. I often forgot to add vague things like “morning” in, so sorry about that.
I’ve bolded all the dates I’m sure of.
Bold and italics means an official date: emails, text threads, tweets, holidays, Georgetown, etc.
Two asterisks ** = official dates.
Just bold means a day I’m sure of, based off of official dates: Two weeks later, day one post lake house, “a tuesday”, etc.
One asterisk: * = something I’m sure of based on official dates.
I’ve also bolded days of the week I’m sure of, even if I’m not certain of the date.
I’ve left a few things vague. Like, October 2020 is a lot of “sometime between these days, this happened”. Feel free to pick a day in that range to your heart’s content.
If you don’t like the day I picked for little things like Bea walking in on face time, or coming out to June, feel free to change it.
I didn’t bold everything I’m certain on, as I technically don’t have textual evidence to back it up. (Things like the wedding day, Alex and Henry’s texts at in the beginning, some things during the campaign.)
I’m 100% willing to answer questions on why I chose certain days, and any other questions or comments you may have!
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD
**Aug. 28, 2019 (Wed.) — Alex starts classes at Georgetown, Winter Semester 2019
Sep. 7-Sep. 8, 2019 (Sat.-Sun.) (p. 5-6) — Alex and June attend an event and listen to an hour and a half of speeches about carbon emissions. June is whisked away to a star studded gala. Alex shows up to the presidential suite with a bottle of champagne. Around 4 a.m. Alex leaves after fake hooking up with Nora.
Sep. 12, 2019 (Th.) (p. 3-8) — June and Alex go over the tabloids. Alex has been working on a research paper all week
Sep. 13, 2019 (Fri.) (p. 8-12) — The US crew flies to London.
6 a.m. EST: Take off.
5 p.m. BST: Land in London. (Wiggle the take off time to your heart’s content. Flight is around 6 hours give or take for Air Force 1, plus time to and from the airport, plus the time change. The flight time is “11 hours” with the time change if that helps you calculate the landing time in London.) They potentially have 1-2 appearances that evening.
Sep. 14, 2019 (Sat.) (p. 12-20) — The royal wedding. The US crew has 1-2 appearances before arriving at the ceremony. The ceremony happens. Reception happens at a Buckingham ballroom. The White House Trio chats, Henry dances with June. Alex finds Henry hovering by the champagne fountain and they argue. Evelyn sighed. She wasn’t sure when time had crept up on her so stealthily, so steadily. It seemed like only yesterday that she and Frank were wrangling the kids in the back of the old Ford wagon, driving across several states to see the Grand Canyon. Now Frank was gone and the kids had kids of their own, and she could no longer remember the route from the house she’d lived in for fifty years to the supermarket around the corner, where she’d shopped for as long a time.
The Pines boasted a wide lawn, backed up by seven acres of woodland, and a glassed-in deck overlooking it all. Deer and birds and squirrels were all regular visitors, with the occasional fox. The residents would crowd around the windows in the winter and enjoy the sun in the warmer months, wheelchairs locked in place.
Evelyn couldn’t remember when she’d gotten this old.
The shrill ringing of the phone pulled her from her ruminations, and she pulled herself slowly from her chair by the window to amble slowly to the desk.
“Hello?”
“Good afternoon, Ma’am. How are you today?”
The young man on the other end of the line had a pleasant, rolling voice, she thought as she answered his polite query. He reminded her of her eldest grandson, although it was rare that Patrick ever lifted his head from that confangled smartphone long enough to have a conversation, on the occasions he visited with his mother and sister.
“And who am I speaking with? May I have your name?”
She was smart enough to be weary. Time might have stolen her youth, her Frank, her ability to get around on her own, but it hadn’t stolen her wits, Evelyn thought proudly. She answered with her first name only, telling the young man flat out that she wasn’t giving him her social security number or credit card card information.
“Evelyn, I’m not interested in any of that,” he laughed in his silvery voice. “I’m merely calling from a quality control center, ensuring that you’re happy with your phone service and not experiencing any issues with your line.”
She could hear the smile in his voice, and felt her own mouth raise in response. He was polite and well-spoken, and hung up with only a few minutes later, after wishing her a lovely day. There. Not so feeble at all.
.
.
“Hello?”
Your voice was sharper than you intended it to be, but you were long past caring at that point. It had been a grueling few days. Moving mom should have been easy, should have taken a few hours at most, or so you’d thought: pack her clothes, a few framed photos, the afghan from the sofa, and then settle her into her new room at The Pines.
Things had not gone according to plan.
Your good-for-nothing brother was missing in action, probably off at the track, and you’d been stuck hauling out the recliner Ma insisted on taking with her, not wanting to have to “break in” a new chair in her room, alone. Sorting the clothes had taken an entire afternoon: a pile for the church, a pile to give to your sister Mary, who lived clear across the country and surely wouldn’t want an octogenarian’s wardrobe, but you couldn’t tell your mother anything.
Then there was the kitchen. “Ma, you don’t need to bring any of this stuff! I’m going to get it all packed up for you, I promise!” It had been no use. Your mother had come to terms with the fact that she couldn’t live alone anymore, not after her recent fall and the broken hip that had resulted. You traveled too much for work to be a dedicated caregiver and your brother couldn’t be trusted. Moving her into The Pines was the best solution, and one she’d accepted, eventually.
Evidently that didn’t mean she was willing to accept anyone else going through the entire house, divvying up donations and bequeathments, things she could have been doing for years, and not the weekend she was meant to be moving.
“Ma, it’s not like we’re going to be selling anytime soon! I can pick you up on Sundays and we can go room by room!”
As a result, you were cranky and tired and not in the mood for whoever the hell was on the phone.
“Good afternoon ma’am, how are you today?”
The voice on the other end of the line was pleasant and crisp with a generic friendliness, reminding you of a banker, or worse, a lawyer. You frowned in response.
“I’m fine, what’s this about?”
It was good you were still here, you thought. Your mother had let those smooth-talking bastards at QVC convince her to buy truck loads of their crap in years past, and now she was even more susceptible to their schemes.
“May I have your name, ma’am?”
“You may not,” you said testily, setting down the framed family photo you’d been holding, “not until you tell me what this is about.”
“I’m merely calling from a quality control center, ma’am, but I need to ensure I’m speaking to the right customer. Your name, please?”
The kid was unflappable, you’d give him that. His voice had never lost its smooth, rolling quality, but the joke was on him. You’d been born at night, but not last night. “You’re calling this number, don’t you think you ought to identify yourself first? How do you know you got customers here in the first place? Customers of what, by the way? ‘Cause we’re not interested in buying whatever the hell you’re selling.”
“Ma’am, I understand your concerns, and I assure that nothing is being sold and I’m not collecting any personal information, other than needing you to confirm your na—”
“Are you friggin’ hard of hearing? I’m not telling you anything until you tell me who you are and what this is about.”
A pause on the other end of the line was the only indication that you’d ruffled this smooth-talker’s feathers. You had the momentary thought to simply hang up, but decided that was just an invitation for them to call back. Call back and talk to Ma, and she’ll wind up giving this guy the security code to the house.
On the other side of the line, unbeknownst to you, the coolly-composed man rolled his eyes. Relatives. For the humans, time marched on. Time and technology, he’d learned. They’d wised up to the email schemes, over the years. His newest dabbling was the dating apps—Bumble and Tinder and Grindr and the rest of their ilk—he had accounts on each of them. His profiles were vague, giving just enough false information to lure in some unsuspecting human, and his smile was, obviously, irresistible. It was a reliable channel of names, that often came with the benefit of sexual dalliances, always a nice way to pass a few hours on this plane, but they also took work, more work than he was always willing to invest.
It had been a goldmine, this retirement community. Right on the edge of the forest, he could work from home, so to speak, dialing from room to room, collecting names and building his coffers. The residents changed often enough, and were always happy to hear from him.
They were all so worried about their precious Visa cards that they never stopped to consider the most valuable thing they possessed, they gave away freely.
He decided to try a different tactic, as you filled the dresser with clothing, aggravatedly shoving handfuls of slips and socks into a drawer.
“May I speak to the resident at this number, please?”
A red haze seemed to settle over your gaze, as the implication behind the politely-worded question revealed itself. The resident...of a retirement home. They want to talk to someone old and confused who won’t push back, not your cranky Hanover ass.
“What is your name?” you gritted out, barely keeping your composure as your mother piped up from the corner.
“Gloria, who is it? Tell them I only want the newspaper on Sundays!”
“I want your name, and I want to speak to your supervisor right now.” Silence met you for several heartbeats. “Hello? I said—”
“I’m sorry ma’am, but there’s no supervisor on this line for you to speak to. If you would just—”
“What. Is. Your. Name.” You didn’t need to speak to anyone, you thought. You’d just reverse dial as soon as you hung up on this punk, getting the company’s name when they picked up again.
“You can’t just ask me that,” the smooth voice laughed on the other end, all traces of friendly professionalism gone, replaced instead by a hint of malice. Silvery and cold, all warmth gone, and you fought the instinct to throw the phone across the room. “You don’t ask me questions, I’m the one who—”
“Gloria, who was it? Did you tell them about the paper?”
You stared down at the disconnected receiver, quickly bending to unplug the cradle before you had to hear that voice again.
“You know what? Joey’s right. We don’t need to pay for a phone line. I’m going to get you a cell phone, one with big numbers, and one of those alert necklaces. That way you don’t have to worry about falling. You can call me and Mary anytime you want, okay? Put your sweater on, let’s go to the store right now.”
You didn’t know who the creep was, and you didn’t want to find out, you thought, lifting the disconnected cordless phone base up. You wouldn’t even leave it for the staff to plug in.
They were going to have to try a lot harder than that to get one over on Gloria Boniface. Let them try their scheme on somebody else. Not today, Satan.
On the other end of the disconnected line, the silvery-voiced man sighed. It didn’t matter, he thought. One room outside of his grasp, and it would change over soon enough. Time, for the humans, was a a raindrop in the sea for him, and time, as it always did, kept marching on.
There would be a new name to gather tomorrow.

Saturday Blog: Kickstarter and Promotion
This is the fourth installment in Allison’s blog series on editing the anthology “Who is the Silhouette?” which is currently funding on Kickstarter.  To read the rest of the series, visit who-is-the-silhouette.tumblr.com.
From the beginning of the project, we knew we would be going to Kickstarter.  As much fun as making a book is, it’s not really real until we can get it into readers’ hands.  Kickstarter lets us manage preorders so that we can fund the print run with book sales and get a good idea of how many books we need before we place the order.
To calculate our base goal and our stretch goals, we did a bunch of math.  We needed to take into account the cost for printing, the cost to ship the books to us, the cost of packing those books and shipping them out to our backers, the money we had spent to pay our contributors for their work, the additional money we wanted to pay them if we could get past the minimum goal, the price of ordering extra books if we exceeded our initial goal, and the fees from Kickstarter.  It was a lot of math, and a lot of approximation and guesswork, but we came up with our numbers based on how much we could afford to pay out of pocket to make the book a reality, how many books minimum we needed to order, and all of the other factors that I named above.
Tom and I aren’t great at promotion.  We’re much more interested in making comics than we are in marketing them, but we have to get eyes on the project to get books into hands.
One of our first (and very achievable!) goals was to post something every day on our social media, with Tumblr as the content hub.  We decided that Saturdays would be blog posts by me, Mon/Wed/Fri would be interviews with contributors and Tues/Thurs/Sun Tom would put together posts with sketches, pencils, excerpts and other visual teasers.
Our small marketing budget was focused on ad space.  We boosted Facebook posts, with mixed success, and identified affordable ad space on comics we enjoyed with Project Wonderful.  We shared the links with our friends, family, and fans (probably to exhaustion, apologies to folks who are sick of hearing us promote this project--we promise we’ll start talking about other things soon!).
Running a campaign is stressful.  The kickstarter for my graphic novel, Wit’s End, had prepared us for some of this so we were much more confident than we might otherwise have been.  The first week pledges came in quickly, with friends throwing us their support, and then everything slowed to a crawl.  During the middle of the campaign, even a single pledge was something to celebrate.  In the last few days, pledges started coming in again, the curve of the graph moved upward, and the hope we had clung to throughout the slow middle weeks started to manifest.  In our experience, the majority of pledges come in the first few days and in the final week and a half.
It’s still stressful.  We’re still waiting with bated breath, watching every pledge bring us closer to the finish line.  We want to get this book into print, into hands!
You can back Who is the Silhouette? on Kickstarter through March 3.  The final installment of this blog series will appear next Saturday, and will look to the future of this project!

What to see in Tallinn in 1, 2, 3 days
New Post has been published on https://tripsterguru.com/what-to-see-in-tallinn-in-1-2-3-days/
What to see in Tallinn in 1, 2, 3 days
Tumblr media
The capital of Estonia – a kind of oasis of the Middle Ages, has always been and remains a desirable place for filming many feature films about the past. It is the particular flavor of Tallinn (former Revel) with its architectural and cultural monuments, with narrow cobbled streets that conveys the atmosphere of past eras, ancient tales. The combination of nostalgically sweet patriarchalism with vibrant modernity makes visiting Tallinn extraordinarily interesting. We will tell you what to see in Tallinn in 1, 2 and 3 days. Also, we marked all the interesting places on the map.
What to see in 1 day
The Dome Cathedral
Dome Cathedral – the oldest temple in Tallinn (1229) – a visiting card of the city, a world-famous religious building dedicated to the Holy Virgin Mary. It contains the burial places of great personalities, knights and eminent nobles, as evidenced by tombstones and sarcophagi (107), which are works of sculpture art of their time. A special atmosphere reigns here, imbued with the high spirituality created by Saturday concerts of organ music.
Tumblr media
Church of Olevist (St. Olav)
Church of Olevist, considered until the 19th century. the tallest building in the world, built in the 13th century. This is one of the main symbols of the city, famous for its unsurpassed spire (124 m), makes an amazing impression.

The Kadriorg Palace, built under Peter I as a gift to the Empress wife, was a royal residence until the 1917 revolution. The magnificent Baroque building is surrounded by a park whose landscape beauty strikes with the beauty and perfection of the lines. Now the palace has a rich collection of foreign art.
Tumblr media

Opening hours: Thu – Sun, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Ticket Price: 5 Euro
What to see in 2 days
For 2 days there is an opportunity to see a number of other, no less interesting, objects shrouded in romance.
Viru Gate
The Viru Gate is a symbolic “door” to the Old City, a once-powerful entrance building with thick walls and towers, erected in the 14th century. The initial view of the gate has been lost, only 2 towers and the wall of the small entrance, from which excursions in medieval Tallinn begin, remain. But even the remains of the ancient gate are very impressive.
Tumblr media
Katarina Kain
Katarina Kain (Katarina Lane) is also called the Courtyard of the Masters because of the various workshops in it for the manufacture of glass, leather and ceramic souvenirs. At first, the lane was named after the church of St. Katarina, built 7 centuries ago. Here the spirit of the true Middle Ages reigns, thanks to the ancient monastery and the same houses located in a row. A lane tour is an exciting journey into the past and present.
Tumblr media
Dollhouse
Dollhouse – a museum of author’s dolls, opened in the Old Town in 2010, began with the organization of an international doll exhibition in Tallinn. The purpose of its discovery is not only the popularization of the art of making dolls, but also a charity event. It regularly hosts exhibitions and workshops where you can see real puppet masterpieces.

A three-day stay in Tallinn is a happy opportunity to see the most significant historical and architectural monuments of world significance.
Town Hall
The Town Hall, whose Gothic building was erected 600 years ago, is the only well-preserved instance of such structures in Northern Europe. Each century added new elements, and as a result, an architectural masterpiece appeared, with a high spire topped with a unique weather vane in the form of an Old Thomas figurine. Skillful Revel craftsmen decorated the town hall with copper forged weirs – the heads of dragons. You can climb up from the basement on the stairs (115 steps) to the tower and from there, from a 64-meter height, you can see the amazing panorama of the city.

Dominican monastery
The Dominican Monastery is the oldest Catholic monastery in Europe, founded by St. Dominic in honor of St. Catherine (13th century). The sacred remains of the monastery buildings, the garden, the chapel, the ruins of the church, the barn located in the Lower City, now serve as a museum. The works of stone-cutters from medieval Tallinn, monastic household items, symbols of spirituality and other exhibits are stored here. In summer, various concerts and theatrical performances are organized in the courtyard. A visit to the monastery is a touch of the mysterious past.
Tumblr media
Great Guild
The Big Guild is a 15th-century building with a Gothic portal, massive doors and lancet window openings, built by Tallinn merchants. Trade meetings, lush festivities, sumptuous feasts were held here, the scope of which amazes with the amount of food eaten and drunk (according to archival data). Visiting the Great Guild, in which the Historical Museum is now located, you can learn a lot of interesting things about the merchants, trade, cultural, and family traditions of Estonians. The expositions of the new exhibition “11 thousand years of Estonian history” tell about this.

There are several advantages when you choose a Subaru certified body shop. Most of these advantages from the fact that your mechanic has already been evaluated by people who are in a position to know the good from the bad. You just can’t beat the peace of mind that only comes from knowing that your vehicle is in the right hands.
Collision repair shops like Fix Auto are also certified by an organization called I-Car. This certification is given by a private company, but that company works in close cooperation with auto manufacturers to ensure that their knowledge is always up to date. The I-Car certification is something that you should always look for when shopping around for collision repair services. Without that training certificate, there is nothing to guarantee that your mechanic actually knows what they are doing.
Best of all, we are I-Car Gold certified. This means that we are one of the best collision repair centers in the nation. Only 8% of certified Subaru mechanics earn this designation, so you can see that we are experts when it comes to any model of Subaru.

Week 2.
With preparation for camp (April 13-16), my workouts haven’t been as often as I’d like. Normally I lift Sun/Mon, Wed/Fri (tues and thurs are rest days), but I’ve only been able to do 3/4 days. At least I got all the cardio in...
Maybe it’s because my sleep schedule is off-kilter and I’m mostly sedentary, but 1850kcal a week isn’t cutting it. I cut my carbs down again but we’ll see how everything is post-camp. I might have to cut down to 1700 for a few weeks and then down to 1600 after that.
This past Saturday night I celebrated a birthday with family and friends, so I didn’t track and I focused solely on enjoying the time with people. That’s what it ultimately boils down to: improving the quality of life. I’m not gonna beat myself up over dieting and birthdays and whatnot. I’ll just plan ahead and eat wisely in the days prior so in the end I’m not gaining fat.
Cutting weight is kinda like a science experiment, like- your body doesn’t want to lose fat, it doesn’t need to. So you have to hit the numbers and be diligent in your work. Results will always show.
Here’s to me hitting 163lbmaybeidk.

“I live in a condo and have a good sized patio. I wanted a gas grill, but did not want to spend $300+. The Weber Q is a fantastic grill for the patio. The set up was simple, and all the materials are high quality….”
Read the rest of the review HERE!
“I don’t have a ton of grill experience but I wanted to get a portable-style one that would fit nicely on the balcony of my apartment. I’ve heard great things of the Weber brand and was originally looking at the Q100, but decided to splurge and go for the Q220 instead. What a great choice it was!
Setup was super easy, you have to assemble a few pieces but it’s very easy to do (just attaching the handle, lid and thermometer). You will notice at this point though how heavy this grill is, but that’s a good thing, the build quality is fantastic…”
