"I have been addicted to golf ever since I remember" - AB de Villiers

The inaugural Icons Series event concluded recently with a hugely successful tournament staged at the Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, NJ.

The Icons Series brings bonafide global icons together for an ultra-competitive team match-play tournament featuring Team USA against Team Rest of World, with Fred Couples and Ernie Else as captains and squads composed of the biggest names in sport.

One of the Rest of the World team is former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers, widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time.

The former South Africa captain, he was named the International Cricket Council’s Cricketer of the Year three times across his 18-year career and averaged more than 50 in both Test and one-day international cricket.

It speaks volumes for de Villiers that he is a highly accomplished golfer, and he explained why golf has always been part of his life, having been playing golf twice a week since his retirement from cricket and in turn reducing his handicap from seven to two over the past year.

He said: “I have been addicted to the game ever since I remember. I became good at it at a young age. I recall watching The Masters growing up and from the age of three I have not missed a major.

“The Big Easy Els is one of one of the guys, who is amazing and a very kind human being and someone I always looked up to I am very fortunate to have him as a friend.

“Even before I got to know him he came and watched a couple of South Africa games live at The Oval and Newlands knowing he was there was a huge honour. The Oval he came to the year he won the British Open it was quite special knowing he was there.”

With so many sports legends appearing, de Villiers admitted that he had a touch of nerves ahead of the event.

He added: “I’m quite nervous, I almost feel embarrassed to be on that list, some of my heroes are playing. I’ve been watching Harry Kane in the Premier League these last few years. Ash Barty, I met a few years back when I played in the Big Bash. What she’s achieved is just amazing.”

The prospect of playing at the Liberty National, overlooking Upper New York Bay is another famous course to add to his collection.

He recently played at Seminole in Florida and lists the Old Course at St Andrews and Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland among his favourites.

De Villiers first visited Portrush, which proved such a popular venue for the Open Championship in 2019, while he was playing club cricket for Carrickfergus as a 20-year-old, an experience he looks back on now as formative in his future career.

The event saw Team USA, which featured the likes of Michael Phelps, Michael Strahan and Ben Roethlisberger beat Team Rest of The World, which included Ash Barty and Harry Kane, by a 21.5 to 11.5 score with eight single wins in the final grouping.

Did the event whet AB’s appetite to play more golf or even try it as a second sporting career?

“I think I’ve missed too many years now,” he adds. “It was one of my dreams growing up, but it’s something I want to keep casual. If I was to try and crack it as a golfer, I’m back as a hamster running on that wheel. I want to keep it casual, see how well I can play, but playing with my mates and in tournaments like this, that will be as serious as it gets.”

like imagine saying this when you know you're gonna play against the team who has not lost a single match in the entire championship and is at the top spot in the ICC rankings and you're playing on their home ground in front of 125k people, all of whom are fans of the team you're gonna play against (and most have spent ridiculous amounts on the tickets)

Ravindra Jadeja is angry at the unfair treatment of Ishan Kishan

With the Board of Control for Cricket in India preparing a contract extension for head coach Rahul Dravid after the ICC World Cup 2023, the chief of the National Cricket Academy and batting icon VVS Laxman coached a second-string Indian side for the entire five-match T20I series against Australia. Under the leadership of new captain Suryakumar Yadav, a second-string India side defeated Australia 4-1 in the bilateral series.

Superstar Shreyas Iyer, who was rested for the first three T20Is, joined the Indian squad as Suryakumar's deputy for the final two encounters against Australia. While Iyer was roped in as the No. 3 batter for the 4th and 5th T20I, India decided to release Ishan Kishan from its playing XI after the third encounter of the five-game series. When Ravindra Jadeja got asked, “Was Kishan really that tired after three matches?’ Jaddu said, “There was a series right after the World Cup. Ishan Kishan played three matches and went home.

Was he really that tired after three matches that he needed rest? He didn't even play a lot of games at the World Cup. He deserved his spot in the playing XI for the first few World Cup matches. How many Indian players have scored a double century on a good day? He can change the game on his own. When will he get ready? Will you keep him on trial all the time? In the last two years, how many games has he played? This problem of Indian cricket is not of today; it is very old that we don’t select players but reject them.”

Security Breach *bad ending* SPOILERS AHEAD! (And it's a mini-story so enjoy)

In the bad ending, Cassie uses V.A.N.N.I.E on a Freddy cutout, and it reveals Vanessa, Gregory, Helpi and Freddy under a tree on a hill. Cassie dies, right? She's panicking, breathing heavily as a nice thought goes through her head.

At least Helpi was allowing her final moments to be something nice, calming.."H..icc–" Cassie sobs, fumbling forward, gripping the Freddy cutout.

The mimic nears, gears clicking as it readies for a bite. "Goodbye Cassie." Helpi utters, the icon sad, ears drooped.

"T..hank you H..lpi.." She whispers, lowering her head.

The mimic roars, a series of clanks and crashes following. "CASSIE!" Roxy.

Cassie perks, screaming as she's scooped up, holding onto Roxy tightly. "Roxy!-"

"I gotcha kid-" Roxy gulps, taking the mask. "I'm sorry, I need this."

She slides it over her muzzle, Helpi ringing in Cassie's ear, "Animatronics are not allowed to wear maintenance personnel!"

"Shut your pie hole you tiny bear." Roxy turns, side hitting a corner. "These eyes stink! Buncha rotten wires."

"Excuse me!?" Helpi gasps. "Cassie, remove the V.A.N.N.I.E mask from Ms.Roxanne Wolf's muzzle!"

Yet Cassie just covers her ear, the other being muffled by Roxy's arm. She breathes softly, slumping, "Thank you Roxy.."

The mimic roars, not far off, clearly catching up. "Don't thank me yet Kid, I have to get you out and get rid of that thing."

"Cassie! Why are you leaving me!" The mimic roars, using the voice of Gregory.

Roxy jumps up, grabbing a metal bar, pulling herself up, toppling a cabinet over the hole. Helpi squeaks, "Someone is trying to reboot me! Roxanne Wolf, remove the V.A.N.N.I.E mask if you do not wish to be reboot."

She removes it, setting it back over Cassie's face, Helpi doing a little dance as a loading bar appeared under him. He babbled the daycare theme, spinning around as if he was doing balet. The mimic cries out, slicing through the cabinet, hitting the walls with its side. "All done!" Helpi cheered. "Please find your way to the nearest exit. Please find your way to the nearest exit. Please find your way to-"

"I get it!" Roxy hissed, kicking down a door, setting Cassie down. "Kid, you need to run. Run as fast as you can out of here. Don't stop, and alert authorities when you're safe." She turned, metal ears flicking. "I've got a last job to do.."
