Plot twist: demigods not being able to use ADHD meds because of whatever reason, I can't remember (monsters were secretly making them or something?? Or do ADHD meds just not exist in PJO canon, like I do not recall them ever being brought up 😂), was actually the result of some Apollo child who got really into the natural health movement and started preaching to other demigods about not taking vaccines or pharmaceuticals and really pressed the idea of herbalist medicine, and since some of demigod healing magic DOES include using different "natural" ingredients (natural to them, maybe, but not always to us regular ol' mortals) it caught on like wildfire, and, now, if any kid shows up to camp on ADHD meds, they're immediately razed for trying inhibit their natural survival instincts.

I'm rewatching Spreen's Egg event day VOD and taking notes because, as is the case with Fit and his original thoughts about the Eggs and Ramon, a lot of people don't do a Great Job depicting him in fanwork (q!Spreen was kind of a dick, he wasn't straight up Evil like some people make him out to be) but o o f... There are some things he says that are such gut-punches.

I think in DCMK the one that possessive are the boys rether than girls. Shinichi claim to Eisuke that he will not permit him to take Ran away, Heiji jerks to all guys that try to flirt Kazuha and Kaito bet on someone else (KID) just because Hakuba offer himeself to go to the concert with Aoko. Yeah they jelous and possesive.

I get where you're coming from. But.

The girls are 100% just as jealous as the guys.

The only real difference is that the guys are 'subtle' (okay not really but give me a sec) and direct about it. In the context of how their defensive feelings trigger, they'd probably view themselves as protective, because other guys are the ones initiating things and not the girls, and they go 'not on my watch' without really thinking about why they're defensive sometimes. -pointed looks at Heiji and Kaito-

The girls (mostly Kazuha tbf, Ran a bit less so) don't tend to notice that they're jealous, but clearly act on jealousy when they think the guys are hanging out with other girls. Kazuha especially acts super possessive of Heiji under the thought process of 'well, she's like his sister, so of course she's going to come and judge whoever he might potentially be dating', when we the audience know full well she just has a crush. Ran gets mad at Shinichi if she thinks he's secretly going out with another girl, which while we can assume most of it is jealousy and 'are you lying to me just to (in imaginations) sleep with someone'. Ran may be more betrayed than jealous, but Kazuha pretty much carries the 'jealous not-quite-girlfriend' trope often enough to cover anyone.

(And then there's Momiji, who was so convinced that her ship is the canon one that she doesn't even get jealous, she just assumes it won't work out. But props to her for shifting into a somewhat friendly love rival, even if her having that role along with her confident rich girl attitude causes other problems with her specific bahaviour.)

Granted, every relationship is written by a guy, and that guy may or may not have a pattern to how he decides to depict either sides of his (mentally) committed couples. There's variety in personalities, and a little variety in how their romances progress, but 'protective' seems to be baked in. Which inevitably will get labelled as 'possessive' when most couples weren't officially together.

(And I've had posts that touch on all of this before, but they're not coming up easily with search so. A summary that: Shinichi with Eisuke is the only time he's definitively spoken his stance over what Ran may have decided, and only because Eisuke wanted to ask him, specifically. We see with Araide that, while he might get jealous, Shinichi wouldn't stand in the way if it seemed like Ran were the one initiating things. He'd be sad, but he wasn't going to continue getting mad at Araide when Ran was the one who kept approaching him. Overall, more protective than possessive.

Heiji is possessive, though half of that time has been the most basic 'I don't know how I feel but I don't like seeing her with other guys, which frustrates me and I'm taking it out on the guy'. Boy has many issues, though his self esteem may make the problem worse now that he is aware of his feelings. Even before romance was involved, he's already bristled when he felt threatened. The need to prove himself is friendly with Shinichi, but with other guys, it just probably won't ever go well atm.

Kaito is just oblivious. We've only really had that one time with Hakuba to point to, so it's hard to pinpoint if it was him not wanting Hakuba to date Aoko, or just pure pride that led him to wanting to win the 'bet' on who goes to the concert. There's literally only one panel to suggest that he might not like the idea of Hakuba dating Aoko, and that was after Kaito himself suggested that they would be a good match. (In typical Kaito fashion of making fun of them both with regards to Kid frustrating them both.)) So it's. Hard to tell if Kaito would get upset at the idea of Aoko dating someone else or not. The only other time we get any indication of any of his feelings was when Aoko said she would ski with Fujie, and Kaito... seemed more confused than anything. He wasn't mad at either of them, more just generally grumpy for reasons he might not fully can admit to himself. Could go either way, not enough evidence to make any solid claims about all that.)
