Hiya! I’m kind of a small creator on here and trying to get my rottmnt fic an audience but no matter what I do as promo material (art, skits, rambles) nothing ever works to get more than like 2 notes max. I’m confident in my story’s quality so I’m fairly sure that’s not the issue. I was wondering if you have any advice or anything like that? Your stuff is lovely and get a lot of community engagement so I’m curious if there was anything you actively did that helped you grow! I hope this doesn’t come off as rude or desperate, I just wanted to know if I was missing something since I’m pretty new to Tumblr. Enjoy your day ^^

But tbh... you are asking the wrong person here...
I'm going into marketing, and I spent a full school year in high school doing an independent study on social media algorithms. So I know a LOT about how to grow social media followings- specifically instagram accounts.
But I never actually studied tumblr. I used to use instagram as a platform, but knowing how the algorithm worked was too stressful for me... I'd post stuff and be like "the algorithm won't like this because blah blah blah." Eventually I was drawing for the algorithm and not for me, and so I quit because it just wasn't fun anymore...
Which is why I have very specifically not studied Tumblr's algorithm, because I don't want it to turn into the same situation as with instagram. So I don't know a ton about how to grow a following... and also I've only been on tumblr for 5 months...
THAT BEING SAID: I can walk you through my tumblr and how it's grown!
My very first post was of a meme redraw with the 2012 turtles. I think it got around 1,600 likes?
I posted a couple more things, with varying amounts of likes and such. My first comic (which I never actually completed past the first part) got a total of 7 likes within the first months of posting it. Only when I got more followers did the like amount change.
When I posted my first chapter of the Flashbacks AU, I had 33 or so followers. I think I got to like... 300 followers from that first chapter alone. From there it was just... a steady growth of followers I guess. And with followers comes more reblogs, and with more reblogs comes more followers.
I have around 1,600 followers now. Not everyone is gonna like my posts, I think I get around 20 for responded asks and 100-300 for random pieces of art. Comics get closers to 600 or so. It depends on the content.
I think there are a couple of universal things that help grow an account:
1- Making sure your content is reaching the right people. Put the right tags in. Go crazy with them in fact. If I'm posting a piece with Rise Mikey in it, Im gonna tag: Mikey, Mikey tmnt, Mikey 2018, ROTTMNT, Rise Mikey, etc etc. On instagram they are currently trying to get people to limit their use of tags, but I don't think the same thing applies here. Even tho tags don't help as much here, they are still a good tool!
2- Consistency. Idk how it works on this platform, but consistency is generally a good thing! With instagram theres an actual method to it (1 post a day= good, but the more posts you do a day the less people it shows it to), it might be worth it to look up if tumblr has something similar.
3- Have fun with it! I know this is kinda lame to say... but don't change your content for views. Just... do what you like and eventually your target audience will find you :)
4- Engage with what audience you do have! It's fun to bond with people online, and it helps that "community engagement" piece you talked about!
5-... stalk people hehe. (By which I mean: Look at what other artists post! What tags do they use, do they reblog their own posts a lot, etc etc. Also look at artists with similar followings to your own. For example, studying Cass might not be very helpful, because Cass has a large amount of followers and I'm convinced they could post a picture of a blank canvas and still get 1,000 likes hehe... BUT- I mean you could scroll down to Cass' (or other artist's) first posts and see what they were doing then! Just... observe others I suppose!)
Id love to tell you likes don’t matter, that what matters is having fun and loving what you are drawing. But also I do know how it feels to post something you are really proud of and then have no one like it- it sucks.
But just keep on going :) You'll find your people eventually I'm sure.

SEASONS OF LOVE 2022 - MYSTIC OF FALL CHALLENGE
Hey guys so I have been plotting this challenge for a while. I have done it before for SPN and Marvel fandom on my other blogs.
This time it will be open to ALL fandoms. Real People Fics are welcome as well, just no hate towards other real people in them and be respectful. You can write a ships. You can write x ocs or x readers. It can also be generel fics.
It will be a 4 part challenge with 1 part dedicated to each season. Since fall is here, that is the season we will begin with. Each part of the challenge will run for about 3 months - to fit the season.
There will be no extensions or reminders. If you want to drop out for one reason or another that is totally fine. Just sent me an ask and I will remove you from my list.
Do I have to take part in all 4 seasons?
No. You can take part in one, in two ect. Any you would like.
If I do all do the stories have to be linked?
No. They can be but that is not an acquirement.
If I do them all do I have to write the same pairing each time?

Will you read and reblog my fic?
I will reblog. If I will read it depends on the fandom/pairing and warnings. If you wanna make sure I do ask me about the pairing/fandom you write.
Does it have to be Fall themed?

Im a garte fan btw. If you claim to like pathetic men but dont lile garte dni (<-joke) hes like. Okay if harry is a fucked up mess. A pathetic mountain lion. Thats harry, yeah? Garte is like. A cat. In the pathetic scale. He sucks. His name is lawrence garte. Like what do you want from me he sucks hes objectively hilarious. I wish you could force him to accompany you in the place of cuno or kim at the end. This makes the game harder. You cant run or garte will leave or he just disables the option. He does not help you any he makes people lile you less. He tries to sound like a badass he fails. Your beautiful impactful boatride is punctuated by him throwing up over the side of the boat (its the gross sound that harry makes when trying to look st the body that same sound) and then he throws a rock at the phasmid.

I really need to get out of food service/ physically demanding jobs in general. Most of my experience is in the food industry, working with kids, or working with cars. I love all of these things, but I have too many health problems and too much chronic pain that by the end of a shift I feel like I'm fucking dying. does anyone have any advice or resources on how I can find something else that will still help me support my family with the experience I have? I'm more than willing to try new things and put in the effort, and if it happens to be something I can do from home, even better!
Quick overview of limitations:
-i don't have a car
-i can't afford to pay money to start anything or buy equipment that is not provided by a job
-please no mlms or scams

My last post has stopped moving and the situation is even worse than before.
Basically we have until Halloween to gather the funds to move and be out of our apartment, otherwise we will be homeless and lose all our animals and belongings.

Hey so shit went really bad all at once and it's a whole thing.
My gas got shut off for non payment even though I was paying the front office. The lady was pocketing my money and got fired already, but I was paying cash so the apartment complex isn't helping me get it back on since there's "no proof" that it was paid I have $30 worth of overdraft that has to last me until Sunday, including feeding both my partner and I, I need to get food for Sampson (my bearded dragon, all the other animals are good to go and stocked up, but im out of fresh veggies), and I still need to get a ride to work Saturday. So like That's stressful Like this completely fucked me financially and for getting the house, it wiped out our savings and is making rent hard to afford Plus my roommate emptied my change that I was saving up for a car without asking, so the other $347 I had saved in coins is gone now too. Literally Everything was going so good, I was supposed to be getting a promotion, and we were supposed to be moving into a house in December, but the promotion fell through and now our savings are wiped out.I already paid the $500 to turn the gas back on, but I still owe another $500 and I only had half of the rent so I owe the apartment complex like $600 bucks still, plus all of the bills and next months rent are due on our next paycheck and all our savings are gone. it's looking like I'm going to be stuck in this apartment for a whole extra year. I've gotta come up with at least 2 grand by the end of the month to cover the other half of this months rent, next months rent, and the bills, 2500 if I want to pay the remaining lump sum on the gas bill, but that still leaves me at being broke or behind because I still also have to keep the house running, animals and people fed, get rides to work, and buy necessities And like I can do it if I work a shift at both jobs every single day but I'm already so exhausted and overworked I genuinely don't know if I can do that, Idk man I'm just overwhelmed and numb and not really processing anything bc I feel like if I think about it too hard everything that's built up is going to come crashing down and I'm going to break.

i think the thing that makes sibuna so effective is that none of them really wants to be there. amber could be the exception—though it can be argued she really just liked the camaraderie of it all. but the others? they were dragged there by a sense of duty, their inescapable destiny, or some combination thereof; they don’t really want a mystery on their hands every year. whereas the adults willingly dive into it for less-than-noble reasons, which means they’re guaranteed to fail.

DAY 14. WORK VISIT.
A CHALLENGE WITH JAVIER PEÑA. ┃ NARCOS.
❝ words: about 600.
You weren't expecting the phone to ring. You have it for less than a year now and it's isn't very common to call you, since your partners and boss prefer to use the beeper. With your heart racing, you get up from the chair leaving in the background your notes and your studies to attend it.
“Aló?”
“Hey, it's Steve”.
“Everything okay? Why are you whispering?”
“Listen, I've no time, Javier is about to be back. He hasn't had a good day, me either. We… have lost a partner, and he was a friend of Javi so… you know. Do you think you can come to pick him up? Like… casually”.
“Like if you haven't called me”. You add puckering your lips in a thankful smile, even if he can't see you.
“Exactly. You always cheer hi— No, ma'am, we don't take those cases. You should call the national police of Colombia… Uh, yeah… Yeah. You're welcome”.
You can't help but break into laughter shaking your head when Steve hangs up. Their job isn't a bed of roses, fewer still in the times you are living, in the country you were born. You really appreciate his gesture, being able to help your boyfriend with anything he needs, just as he always does. Collecting your things over the table to clean the mess on it, you grab your jacket and the keys of your car before leaving your residence. You don't have anything planned, nor an excuse if he questions what you are doing there, you're aware that he won't care —he'll only care about the fact that you are there. That's all.
It doesn't take you more than five minutes to reach the Embassy, finding a free parking spot sooner than you thought. The fifth floor, at the end of the hallway crossing through the work cubicles and some other offices. Sticking your head out the door, you knock on the oak blue frame to call the two gringos attention. Steve welcomes you raising his chin, pretending he wasn't waiting for you, as Javi freezes on his chair.
He had his face buried in his hands, snorting and cursing himself, with two fingers holding a cig. Same cig that he leaves in the ashtray to stand up and come closer towards you.
“¿Pasó algo? ¿Todo bien?” He murmurs a little mixed up.
(Everything okay?)
You nod your head, showing him a tender smile whilst lacing his hands with yours. “Pensé que querrías que cenásemos juntos por ahí”.
(I thought you'd like to go out for dinner together).
“Yo… Ah… Sí, me haría falta despejar la cabeza”. He sighs relieved, leaning forward to press his lips on your forehead as he squeezes your hands.
(I… Uh… Yeah, I need it).
“Hey, Murphy, wanna come for dinner?”
“Nope, thanks. Connie is already waiting at home”.
“Okay, bueno, dale. Coge tus cosas”.
(Okay, good. Then, pick your stuff).
Once inside the lift with the door closed, Javi wraps his arms around your waist and middle back to hide his face between your neck and your right shoulder. That's his safe place. Nothing bad can happen when he is there. You feel him, and hear him, pining soothingly, tightening the hold and breathing your fruity perfume until you reach the parking. That's also his way to say thank you for saving me from my demons.
“Me alegras la vida…” He hums placing an arm on your shoulders, with a fleeting smile curving the corner of his lips.
(You brighten my life).

I can't believe I ever devoted so much of my time and energy on ships I dislike. How ridiculous? What a waste of time?
Genuinely glad I see sense now and have stopped doing so. Had a very good talk about it with my therapist as well who agrees it was very unhealthy for me to do so and very toxic behaviour. I am glad I recognised this and am working on bettering myself. Because honestly wtf?
And I might never have directly send abusive shit to people (as far as I remember, but I do have memory issues so) and I might never have send anon hate but I was still part of something very toxic.
That hurt my recovery more than someone shipping something. Even if that ship might bring up triggering things for me. Not an excuse to be toxic myself. Not okay to do that ever.

But the things I was saying and doing and the things I see others so directly go against the things I learned in therapy. The things I did and said went against what I learned in trauma recovery.
I was reacting out of trauma and instead of dealing with that, I blamed the wrong people. Strangers. That was toxic and I can't excuse that behaviour. I have worked too hard on becoming a better person to allow myself to slip up like that.
Someone shipping something, even if I dislike it or if it triggers me, is not an excuse to be toxic.
Triggering things are going to exist. No matter what. It is my own responsibility to avoid or deal with those triggers.
I am literally terrified every time I talk about this subject and my insights. Changing my opinion on these things was terrifying too. Because I have seen how people treat people who don't agree with them. It scares me. But I have to say this and I have to admit I enabled that kind of behaviour by being so heavily against certain things too.
And part of me feels like I should have seen it earlier. Because I became scared of posting anything that wasn't a certain ship. And I became scared to speak my mind. And I have learned better in therapy. And I went against the very things that helped me cope with my PTSD. And I became more and more triggered by certain things again, even though I can see now that I wasn't before. And it's scary to say that.
I am done demonising others. I am done blaming others. I have to take responsibility for my own actions and I have to take care of myself. If I look up things that trigger me, proceed to read something that will trigger me or devote my energy to things I dislike(d), that's on me. And no one else.
I am not saying everyone has to like everything. Of course not. But devoting all your energy to things you dislike and being toxic about it? That's just unhealthy.

Hitoshi closed the front door quietly assuming you would be asleep due to the time. So imagine his surprise when he walked into the kitchen to see you leaning against the counter swirling a glass of wine. “You’re up late.” All you offered up was a small hum of acknowledgment taking a sip from your glass. A small audible sigh could be heard from the latter. It had been like this for a couple of weeks. Both of you giving half-assed attempts of affection. It had gotten so bad that other people had started picking up on it.
“I’m going to take a shower before heading to sleep. Come up soon alright?” He placed a soft kiss on your temple. “I love you.” There it was. Those flimsy words. Hearing them made you chuckle to yourself. “Toshi, can I ask you something?” He leaned against the wall giving you a slow nod. “Anything angel.” You took another sip of wine to loosen your tongue a bit more before speaking. “When was the last time you said you loved me and meant it?” The question made him raise an eyebrow. “What do you mean?” You shrugged. “I was just wondering, considering that if you meant it then I wouldn’t have been sitting in a restaurant for over an hour waiting for you to show.”
Looking over you could see him visibly tense. “Y/N I’m so sorry. I completely forgot we had plans today.” You just shook your head. “Oh, no believe me I understand. Besides, going out with a few coworkers is a lot more important.” There was obvious panic in his eyes. The tension in the air doing nothing to resolve it. “This is the third time you’ve broken a promise to me. I’m starting to think you are doing it on purpose.” Hitoshi ran a hand through his hair before walking his way over to you. “I know. I also know I haven’t been a good boyfriend and that’s on me. I love you more than life itself. Please let me fix this.” He watched you ponder the thought. Your whole relationship depended on your response and it was killing him. “One time. You have one more time to fuck up and it’s over.”

hmm according to my tumblr account it’d be 2016 since that’s the oldest post I’ve kept (I deleted everything and revamped this acc in december 2020)
