Raphael certainly didn't know what to make of you, that much was certain. In an effort to dissuade your growing familiarity, he had taken to wearing his much more intimidating cambion form more often.

Much to his chagrin, that only seemed to increase your desire to be near him.

"Might I remind you," Raphael gave you an incredulous look as you slid into Mol's vacated seat, beginning to reset the Lanceboard. "I am a devil, my dear." He waved an airy hand in your direction. "I don't take part in such frivolous displays."

"Hmm?" You said, feigning ignorance, cutting him a furtive glance. "It must say a lot that you're some of the most tolerable company I've happened across."

"You certainly did not 'happen across' me." Raphael shook his head at you, his brows angling sharply. He decided to indulge you, his little mouse and readjusted in his seat and pondered his first move. "Very well. Though don't expect lenience."

"Never." You said with a slight laugh. You watched him smile some in response and felt giddy.

He was watching you, ever so closely. The usual sharp cunning behind those brown eyes. However, by his own deceitful design or not, you saw a hint of another emotion: fondness perhaps.

You made your move on the board, keenly aware he was going to beat you soundly. "It must get lonely at times, even for a devil, to never experience affection."

For the first time since meeting, you got the sense your words had actually surprised him. He huffed a bemused sigh. "I have no desire nor time for such mortal trivialities. You cannot begin to conceive the workings of my mind." He made a move, checking your king.

"I could conceive a lot of things." You said, not bothering to guard your most important piece. "All I ask is more of your time, Raphael."

Raphael's answering laugh was long and rather abrasive. "Such an eager little thing. Darling, really. I admit to not knowing quite what to make of you, pet." He leant forward over the table after thoroughly checkmating you. "Such an eager client should be well rewarded after all."

the fact that in this episode, instead of david tennant being "a british celeb" or just "david tennant" like the british icon actor that he is, he is called specifically "your mate, David Tennant" Michaels 'mate'. now i know this is a synonym for friend but theres just something about them starting to be recognised as a collective unit that... well, people sure are catching on, it feels like am i overreacting to this @ingravinoveritas ?

@fluffyfurbies No, I don't think you are overreacting at all. This actually speaks to something I mentioned on another post just the other day, about how, when it comes to Michael, it seems like David is "his" David now. It also ties into something @cloud-based-and-rainpilled said about "mate" being used very commonly in the UK, yet it has a distinct and specific feeling to it when applied to Michael and David (also as mentioned, Georgia on the Blank Podcast last year is another example). And I think it's because of what you said, of them being recognized as a collective unit in a way they haven't been before.

What's interesting to me is that David has been a very widely recognized actor and public figure in Britain for almost twenty years. (Michael I would argue has less public recognition, but a tremendous amount of industry recognition.) So there is no need for either of them to be so connected to each other for career or professional purposes, which means that what is being recognized by people--inside the industry mostly, but now the public as well--isn't just them as coworkers. It's something else entirely.

David in particular has had much longer personal/professional associations with other actors--Billie Piper, Nina Sosanya, Catherine Tate, among others--but none have really fallen into the realm of seeing them as a collective unit. Nor has it ever felt like something is missing when he doesn't do an interview with one of them. But that is noticeably the case with Michael. And it's hard not to think that that is for a reason...

during the 5 year gap, miles feels very angry and upset at himself after phoenix's disappearance. he lashes out a lot, feeling guilty that he was unable to save phoenix during thorns of the turnabout.

during the finale case of chapter 2, turnabout promises, phoenix is also very angry and upset. during his breakdown, miles can't help but see his 5yg self in phoenix.

mirroring character arcs destroy me. the words in the picture are lyrics from the song 'mercy' by sir chloe!
