There's nothing wrong with cottagecore as an escapist fantasy, but it's important to remember that moving into a cottage in the woods will not fix the systemic issues that plague urban environments, and the flight of wealth from cities will only lead to further degeneration of urban conditions (see white flight).

Addressing some reasons people feel drawn to cottagecore and why these are non-unique:

Feeling closer to nature. Bring nature into the cities, not perpetuate the ideological divide between what it means to be urban and rural.

Cleaner environment. Cities don't have to be dirty. I've been to clean and walkable cities where the predominant mode of transportation is the bicycle and (protected) enormous old growth forests are only a few minutes away.

A sense of community. Atomization is a function of capitalism, not urbanity, and running away into the forest or small town will not fix the feeling of alienation from your community. A community doesn't just happen. It takes consistent effort on everybody's part.

Food security. Community gardens. Prevent the desertification of cities and the lack of affordable fresh produce instead of moving away to start a farm that helps only yourself. It's no better than the billionaires trying to colonize Mars.

Cottagecore is nice for daydreaming, but solarpunk is better praxis, as it uplifts entire communities instead of just one person/familial unit.

I really like “pretentious” writing styles. Complex language, labyrinthine sentences, long parenthetical asides... I love them. It’s like going on a scenic tour and encountering strange and wondrous new sights and sounds. Language is beautiful and words are free, so why be economical? Indulge! Be decadent!
