I will say, the difference between how English professors treat biographical readings of texts depending on their discipline is a fascinating thing to me. This is obviously only anecdotal but I feel like professors are more likely to reject death of the author if they're working within time periods where the authors were considered genius for their background - particularly the modern period onward and times when authors tended to only get famous in the first place because of existing wealth.
