Sorry it took me a few days to respond I got swamped with uni work (swamped meaning I neglected my assignments in favor of reading bbh fics and being on twitter and then school caught up with me) but GOD talking with you is so nice, you're saying everything I've been thinking recently about fics T^T I know exactly what vibe of fics you're talking about, those kinds of fics stay with me and affect me for a while because of how good the writing is, "real stories" is a great way to describe it. I love those ugh I'm not kidding I've been thinking in my mind for like a year or two that I wish people would write some of those kinds of beautiful fics for bbh on here again. I pretty much gave up hope though because exo tumblr writers in general are few and far between, and exo tumblr writers who do series or longer works are pretty much non existent nowadays.. And I feel like these kinds of fics aren't usually requested, more like the authors just come up with the idea for it, at least I think? Anyway hearing you say that you're planning on doing that kind of special gorgeous/longer/ao3 type fic for baekhyun literally made my entire year ngl :') I'm definitely looking forward to whenever you post them!!!!! Like so so much!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure I'll eat it right up. Finally some good fucking food for bbh fans LOL you're doing god's work fr fr ily.. Omg I have a rule of not reading incomplete fics too because if an author discontinues a fic or goes MIA it's too much for my poor heart ahah also I try not to read long fics that end in heartbreak/angst. I get too depressed like let me be happy and end up with my kyoongie baby pls omg... I read felon two years ago by accident because I saw it had so many parts so I thought it was complete so I read it OTL it's so incredible though so I can't even mind that it's without updates. I believe the author said last fall that she wanted to finish it before the end of 2022, so maybe hopefully we'll get an update this year instead, I'm manifesting it!

8. Favorite book read this year?

We're only in February ahah but I feel like "Strange the Dreamer" by Laini Taylor has a very good chance of being a favourite of this year. However, I am only 100 pages in and I can't say that for certain without having finished the book. Currently, my favourite book of the year is a tie between "The Secret Lives of Church Ladies" by Deesha Philyaw, "Lonely Castle in the Mirror" by Mizuki Tsujimura and "Adulthood Rites" by Octavia E. Butler.

10. Favorite nonfiction book?

I seldom read non fiction and I especially always feel a bit uncomfortable reading memoirs and the like. I know people publish them in order to be read by the public but I can't still help feeling I am being nosy and disrespecting a stranger's privacy. It doesn't make sense, but I can't help feeling that way. When I don't feel that way the concern is that I am not being told the entire story and just one incomplete perspective that might not be enough. My thoughts on that are a mess. Still, I find it easier for me to consume that kind of nonfiction if it's in graphic novel format and the story is bigger than just the person telling it ever since I read "The Complete Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi. So, that is my answer.

Sometimes I try to pick something more technical and informative like art, science and books about literature, but those never end up really being favourites. I did love "Color and Light" by James Gurney though. I just feel weird calling it my favourite book and such because there is no story or anything.

11. Favorite children’s book (for little children, not teens)?

"A Floresta" by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen. I don't think it was ever translated so it only exists in Portuguese, but it was my favourite as a kid, besides Grim and Andersen's fairy tales.

19. What’s a book you love that other people don’t “get” or understand?

I really don't like how this question was phrased because everyone has their own interpretation of the story and that it's still true to them even if I disagree. So, I really don't know how to answer this because I've seen people interpreting so many of my favourite books in a way I find odd. Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb and the First Law series by Joe Abercrombie are the first to come to mind, but I believe that happens with pretty much every book. "Klara and the Sun" by Kazuo Ishiguro is another one I saw people have vastly weird and different interpretations from my own. So... the answer is all of them (?)

22. Any book(s) you were surprised to end up liking?

The Xenogenesis trilogy by Octavia E. Butler ahahah I mean, I did think I might like it, but I never expected to love it. It only goes to show I should trust my favourite authors more even if the synopsis of their books looks wild and a bad fit for me. If I pick up a book to read it's because I am expecting to like it so if I do it isn't really a surprise. That's the best answer I can give. A book I was expecting to at least find ok and ended up loving.

wind or rain ~ I honestly love both, but I have to go with rain just because of how happy I get when it’s raining and I can hear the pattering on the windows

closed curtains or open window ~ I think I’m only going with open window because of how much I need natural light. Otherwise, I’d rather keep my windows closed because I don’t want my neighbors hearing my music blaring ahah

tulips or roses ~ I’m honestly not that much of a flower girl (please don’t ask me what type of flower that is unless it’s a sunflower), but of the two - scents and aesthetics considered - I’ll probably go with roses (why? Idk don’t ask me)

lemon & honey or apple & cinnamon ~ Lemon and honey sounds like such a spring/summer theme, and while I like that and all, I just thrive so much more in fall, and I love apples and cinnamon, so so much for that aha

hillside cottage or city apartment ~ I don’t think I could survive in the city. While I’d love the idea of living in a cramped city apartment with annoying tenants on all sides, practicality and reality says hillside cottage for the environment is the more true-to-me choice

warm or cool ~ I need that nice little breeze or chill—I don’t do well in warm weather

book or video game ~ This is kinda tough because I spend so much of my time doing both, but in broadening the term “book” to fanfic as well, the choice is very obvious

organized bullet journal or cluttered sketchbook ~ I actually have a couple (incomplete whoops) bullet journals, and I like to think they’re all nice and organized, but, not as what I want but as what I am, I’ve gotta say the cluttered one. This is also a little different because it’s organized or cluttered and then bullet journal or sketchbook. Can I say a cluttered journal? 😅

smoothie or milkshake ~ Smoothies always seem to be healthy (at least in my experiences), and I have such a strong sweet tooth that it’s gotta be milkshake

sunshine or moonlight ~ I love natural lighting as I said above, but I hate being in direct sunlight because I tan sooo easily and don’t really like it, so for that reason plus my love of the mysterious, whimsical, inhibitions-lowered night aesthetic, I’m going moonlight

relaxing or productivity ~ I love relaxing so much and honestly I could do it all day if not for the fact that I’d feel guilty about not getting anything done. I am very much a self-improvement, goal-setting, to-do list typa gal, so even though I love to kick back and relax, my nature forces me to choose productivity simply because that’s who I am and that’s what I do

holding hands or back hugs ~ My hands are always so gross and sweaty lmao especially when I hold someone’s hand for a very long time, but I’m also short and it feels like everyone’s taller than me, so hugs feel awkward sometimes. Idk I think it’d depend on who it’s with, but I’d probably prefer a hug (where I can squeeze them to death) to a sweaty hand holding

sunset at the beach or stargazing in a field ~ Idk I’ve just seen so many sunsets at the beach that stargazing (WITH BUG SPRAY) in a field either on a blanket or the back of a pickup sounds fun and fresh

poetry or prose ~ Poetry is fine but prose owns my heart—simple as that

candle or diffuser ~ Smells and aesthetics (also there’s so many candles in my house I don’t think they’ll all be burned before I die)

longing for the past or longing for the future ~ I spend a lot of time thinking about the past and the future, but I don’t think I long for the future. I look to it in inspiration and hope, but I don’t wish to fast forward to it. I‘m not sure I long for the past either, but I do look back at it and wish for certain feelings again, so I guess that’s closer than whatever I do with the future

vocals or instrumentals ~ Both are wonderful. This is another complex one that should not be complex. Of my own, instrumentals. Of others, both? If it means vocals as in acapela, then— well idk I like that too. I just love music ugh. Maybe instrumental just because it- no ugh idk. I don’t wanna say both because that feels like a cop out, but I can’t decide there’s too many factors

snowy mountain or rolling green hill ~ The hill just sounds boring to me. The snow sounds elegant

I admit I felt something mighty big the last time Link was shown to feel conflicted about his situation. The only thing he could think of was a smiling Allen sharing a doughnut with him. Aw, those 2 spent all their time together 24/7 for months and now they're so far apart. Allen's definitely not the only one who got deeply attached. Makes me feel so much for these traumatized knuckleheads. I hope they get some good moments together at some point (Based on Zhu's incomplete sentence and Lev's -

2 desire to control humanity's fate. I bet Leverrier plans on somehow making Link Nea's new vessel so he doesn't have to worry about Allen's defiance. As far as Lev is concerned Link will be happy to do anything for him. Which means BIG conflict no matter what since Allen is going to protect Nea and try to keep Link safe from his own fate of disappearing).

Oh yeah!! mood mood mood!! 

Also i’ve checked a bit and I think (?) the donut eating scene was also supposed to be the one right before the Paris arc kickstart where Allen listens to Cross’s last word/recording and says that he will walk his own path. Link was there during that scene and in that scene we see Allen with a donut in his mouth and it seems they were shared with Links. So it could be likely Link also remembers the conversation that went with the Donut sharing, but th efact he thinks about it specifically in a picture of Allen being smiling (despite a hard time), enjoying a donut and sharing it with him, show also that what he would get from this scene is that Allen is sweet and kind and he wants to believe in him.

And that’s ADORABLE and yeah you’re very right they have spent so much time together and we’ve seen how Allen ended up enjoying it to some extend (with how easily he opened up about Mana around Link, even if he teased that was because Link was now part of the fournitures for him - he’s amazing and poor Link ahah) but it’s so sweet for Link to have it... trescend duty while he’s such a duty inclined person. 

And wow for your theory this would be very creepy :O but i wouldn’t leave it past Lveille.... He isn’t exactly the kind to bet on something he doesn’t have a sort of control on. Look at the Third project, he had to inject it to Alma in a coma to be sure everything will be safe. He wouldn’t especially rely on something he has no idea how to control.

Even if it is creepy as hell and part of the dynamic that was imposed on Link all along and this undying loyalty, Lveille believes in Link, he has faith in him, he believes Link is his one ally that will never turn against him, that will always do what he asks. So him asking for this specific sceario wouldn’t be too far fetched to me: it would be the best way for Lveille to try to harnest the 14th in his control. 

And yeah if that’s really his plan, I think it will make Allen furious already ahah and yeah Allen would fight already agaisnt the 14th but now also for Link’s sake without second guessing. What I think too though is that Link wouldn’t be too pleased with this on the long  run as an idea. He has lost people he loved because they accepted the dark matter inside of them as a weapon Lveille came to establish. Now that he also sees specifically how the 14th is taking over Allen I do think he might be more warry about it. 

It would be.. a mess all around orz but it’s a good mess. I’m soo glad the direction Link’s character is going through. It’s so refreshing!

❧ Chloric Cloudtop | CH.3 Trial End II

While you’ve all been left to try and work through the results of the trial, the floor beneath you lights up with a sudden flash. Through the purple miasma, pink lights illuminate the section underneath each of the living students' podiums (including where Haruki stands). As the living Magi look between each other in confusion, Chuubey sits back on their hind legs and regards everyone with their typical placid expression. They had laid down for a while, uninterested in what happened after the voting, but they seemed as startled as the rest of you.

"It... appears Wonderland is going to finalize it's choice. Good luck to all of you."

Like a jeopardy wheel, the lights begin to circle the room. Starting out slow, the wheel quickly picks up speed. You feel the heat of the spotlight flicker onto your podium every other second as you all sit in fear of who it will, eventually, settle on...

And then, it stops.

The Spotlight has chosen Kosuke Nakamura.

It was no secret that Kosuke Nakamura, the SHSL Urban Biologist, was afraid of death.

He’d lied, stolen, and killed to survive. When it came down to the line, when Fate’s scissors had gotten too close to cutting his thread of life short, he’d willingly traded another’s life for his own. A little more time, a few more years - that’s all he wanted. Enough time to prove himself, even if he owed nothing to the world. Enough time to leave something behind, to prove that he was better than where he came from.

That time had run out.

“Ah,” says Kosuke, face blank. He stares at the ground stupidly, blinking a few times as the weight of mortality suddenly settles on his shoulders.

“Ahah.”

Kosuke tips his head back, staring at the ceiling. Then, his shoulders start to shake with the force of laugher - something that might come out of the throat of a cornered animal - rings through the trial room.

“AHAHAH! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!”

The laughter abruptly turns to sobs as Kosuke bows his head over his podium, clutching at the sleeves of his lab coat. His voice catches in his throat as one sentence is forced out.

“...why’s this gotta happen to me, huh?”

Is all, in the end, Kosuke can seem to muster up as a reaction. Different classmates flock to the remaining senior Magus of the group (barring Haruki’s existence, as he sits there uncomfortably) for final goodbyes and lingering promises.

Chuubey, likewise, fell into their characteristic silence as the fallout from the random selection played out. But, as the lit up section of ground under Kosuke’s podium flashes once more before dying out, the Incubator clears their throat.

“Time is up, Kosuke. Say what you must before the end.”

The Incubator jumps off their podium, padding away from the doomed Magus. Kosuke watches them go, something close to hate in his visible eye. But, he turns away, addressing the rest of the class in his final moments.

“I got everythin’ worth sayin’ off my chest. But, uh. Anyone who survives this shit, if ya find my loved one from the motive, some asshole named Kagemori Kanta... Tell ‘em their ugly mug better warn me before peacin’ out next time so I don’t gotta try to play Where’s Waldo with my Wish! Really did, uh… try to find ‘em.”

It’s then that a glow comes from Kosuke’s lab coat pocket. Panic lights up his face, and he fishes out his Soul Gem in its civilian form. The normal yellow-green is already rapidly filling with pitch black, cracking around the edges of the gem.

(CW: self-harm related to Soul Gem damage?)

Then, the Urban Biologist does something unconventional. Throwing the Gem to the ground, he stomps it with the heel of his boot. There’s a CRACK, like crunching glass, and Kosuke doubles over as jolts of pain up through his leg. He raises his foot again, and there’s another crunching sound. Hs form flickers.

“The rest is up to y’all! Get the hell outta Wonderland, tear it apart if ya can.”

He looks towards Hisa specifically.

“But make this quick, yeah?”

Then, his Soul Gem bursts apart with flash of nauseatingly bright light --- The trial room is dimly lit when you open your eyes, sky blotted out by the dark silhouettes of rising buildings. Neon lights pulse to the heavy thump rhythm of electronic bass, and little yellow eyes stare at you from behind dumpsters and other debris. This is clearly some sort of cityscape, but… all around you, barbed wire and chain-link fences block you into a dome of nightlife.

Something rises to its feet in the center of the dome, looming over every Magi. As a light flickers on in it’s head, illuminating cracked glass. A distorted sound echoes through the area, staticky and incomplete.

What’s your current favorite dress-up? Hm. I’m not very invested in dressing up my pets for the most part, so I don’t have many. Maybe this one? It’s just a pet dressed as one of my OCs. 17.) What’s the most funniest dress-up you’ve done? I’m such a boring person, I can’t even remember ever attempting to make a funny dress-up. 18.) What’s your best memory of ChickenSmoothie so far? This one is always difficult for me to answer. There’s a lot of moments to choose from! I already used the 2013 summer event as my answer for the summer event question, so here’s two others: I remember that back in 2010-12 I was very invested in my hoards, often spending all day trying to get more pets. It was a lot of fun to compete for the (then more active) hoard records thread, especially! I met a lot of really cool people among other hoarders; it was perhaps the most social I’ve ever been on CS and it felt great to make friends. Becoming a GH in 2015 was awesome, too. Doubly so because I applied together with my friend Irisidium/aaron, and we both got picked. I think my heart stopped for a moment when I saw the message from Tess, ahah. 19.) What’s your most funniest ChickenSmoothie memory so far? April Fool’s is a blast every year, but the first ‘event’ for it in 2010 was beautiful. Nick pretended to have taken over the site; it looked like our adopts were Nick pets only, and some people got legitimately worried that Tess wouldn’t be coming back. “ Hi there everybody!!! It's Nick here I have so many fans in the "I <3 Nick" club that I decided that I don't need Tess any more. I can just draw all of the art myself! I hope you like April's pets!!” 20.) What’s one positive thing  ChickenSmoothie taught you? It’s going to be a testament to how bad I was at this IRL, but I’m pretty sure CS improved my social skills. I feel like the site encouraged me to be more outgoing, generous and considerate. I was a rather abrasive and blunt person as a teenager. Not saying CS did the job alone, but it definitely contributed. 21.) If you could be a mod, which job would you want? (General helpers, admin assistants, etc.) I was made a General Helper in 2015, and since then haven’t felt like I’d want any other position. I think it’s the best match for me! If I had to choose something else, I guess I’d like it as an Archivist. But Solloby does a fine job at that, no need for a replacement :D 22.) If you could add a whole new feature or even improve a feature on ChickenSmoothie, what would it be? I wish we had a spoiler function on the forums, mainly to make image-heavy threads easier to browse. It would be lovely if all those lists of pet images could be hidden until opened. I can see how it would tempt people to post more rule-breaking content, though... 23.) What is your favorite 2nd Gen pairing? These two were a match made in heaven. 24.) What 2nd gen pairings would you like to see in the future? This dog and either this or this one. Cyborgs, please. 25.) If you could make any new UR, what would it be? I remember talking to friends about this a while ago, and coming to the conclusion that we need more foods like the cinnabun. Coffee, maybe. I’ll take one UR coffee, please. 26.) Who are your friends and buddies on CS? I would have to name so many people, because there’s just so many lovely users I’ve met over the years. Based on which ones I talk to the most, it’d be Thalassic, Raire, aaron and torpor, as well as the GH team (including former GHs like Swiftalu, Aquila, Nadine, Simon and Seasonal). I’m active on a CS discord chat, too, so I talk a lot to the regulars there. There are more people who I consider friends, but trying to make a full list would make me scared to leave someone out :( 27.) What forums do you run/mod? Unsure if that means boards or threads; I’d assume threads? I technically ‘own’ the religion thread on the 18+ board, but I wasn’t the one to create the original, and there’s nothing for me to ‘mod’ because generally, if something happens on there, the actual mods need to get involved. I used to briefly be a mod for Adopt a Newbie some years ago, but school got in the way as I was about to graduate. As a GH, I don’t mod anything, but we are expected to keep an eye on the Help and Intro boards. 38.) What’s your favorite stamps? I’m happy that we have the pronoun stamps! Other than that, I like the bird lover stamp :) 39.) What’s your CS username? ZΕL I used to go by Amazilion before that. To this day I sometimes come across people who didn’t realize that’s me and thought I left the site, whoops. 40.) If applicable, what’s your favorite gift you’ve given/received? I have a friend who currently has the username lkjhgfdsamnbvcxz, but used to be known as Discord for the longest time. They haven’t been active for years, and last contacted me in 2014, but when they were still active they loved to help me with my hoards. Once they entered an art contest and won a Vixen Advent for me. Another time they became the first person to hit the limit on buying a token pet (that wasn’t meant to be hit) because they got me so many vixen bunnies. I am forever thankful to them for how much effort they put into getting me gifts. They’re an absolute angel who I didn’t deserve. 41.) If applicable, what’s your favorite hoard you’ve completed? This one of the entire March 2015 moth bwolf litter. 42.) If applicable, what’s your current on going hoards? I have 16 incomplete and 11 endless hoards at the moment. That’s too many, so let’s stick to the endless ones. Lightning/Arrow owls, Blue Nebula dogs, Microbiology dogs, SoulWings Sundogs, Gummy ponies, Ozone deer, Hummingbird bwolves, Vixen Advents, Vixen bunnies, Vixen rats, and a Bakery themed hoard. Phew! Out of the still incomplete hoards, though, I am particularly proud of the Sushi PPS cats and Conure owls. 43.) What’s the most interesting pet ID you have? I own pets with my birthday and my boyfriend’s birthday as an ID, but I’m not going to point those out. I also have a dog with the ID 6666666. 44.) What’s your favorite April fool’s prank chicken smoothie did so far? Tied between the chicken uprising and Totoro’s takeover. Because birds. It was a lot of fun to bicker with Kyar on the ‘17 April Fool’s thread. He’s a traitor. 45.) Who would win: Avian or Totoro? I think Totoro answered that for us this year :’) Bird all the way! 46.) If you were able to get a custom pet, which oc of yours would it be based off of? If you don’t have an oc, what pet lines would you use? Hm, I don’t think I’d want to use one of my OCs. But I’d probably go for a black/gray/yellow colour scheme. Matches both my favourite character, and that fursona I had when I was a teen. And it’d have to be a chicken! 47.) What’s your oddest CS habit? No idea. I can’t think of anything particularly odd. Some people I talk to find it amusing that I will spend ages in the Pound waiting for a pet with a specific name to show up, though. The longest I’ve had to wait was an hour and a half, I think? 48.) What’s the oddest Ad that popped up on the site? I don’t pay attention to them tbh. They’re usually just for other pet sites or pet care products, anyway. 49.) What’s your ChickenSmoothie username? Last time I looked it was still ZΕL :P 50.) What species (that ChickenSmoothie has available) would you want to see more? It can even be PPS/EPPS lines too! I believe we all need more chickens in our lives. And those sheep bunnies, especially PPS ones.

A Long Way in a Dark World

“I’ll take that base out on my own.”

It had been a few days since Prompto had made his proclamation to his companions. With Noctis missing and the world plunged into darkness, the three had returned to the continent defeated but resolute. It seemed that Ardyn was taking no liberties while establishing his rule, setting countless daemons loose and chasing any countrymen back into havens or towns to cower in fear.

Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto had set off immediately to Meldacio Headquarters, where requests for aid vastly outnumbered the hunters available. The three men hunted as a unit--helping Ignis regain his bearings and fighting prowess after his injuries in Altissia--but without Noctis to lead them, everything felt incomplete.

“So guys… When do you think Noct…” Prompto was lying on a motel bed beside Ignis, staring absentmindedly at the ceiling. He trailed off, already knowing the other two men would understand.

“You’ve asked thirty times, cut it out already.” Gladio shut his book, a little irritated. Previously, he had commented about how nice it was to have a bed to himself, but the joke left a bitter taste in his mouth. “None of us know where he went or when he’ll be back.”

Ignis’ voice was lower than normal as he murmured back a reply. “All we can really do is believe. The rest… Well, it’s up to Noct.”  

After a few weeks of hunts and still no sign from the wayward prince, word came in that Niflheim had begun rebuilding blockades and military bases around the continent. None of the hunters in Meldacio were too happy about the news--as it made their jobs much more complicated--but were powerless to stop it.

However, that wasn’t about to hold back the Prince’s entourage.

“We’ll take out the largest garrison--Fort Vaullerey--first, that’ll make it more difficult for supplies to be transported to the other locations.” Ignis was pacing back and forth between Gladio and Prompto, his walking cane tracing a lazy path in front of him.

Prompto nodded absentmindedly as Ignis continued strategizing. The low skimming of the thin pole against the worn tile was barely audible, but for Prompto the sound rattled in his ears. It sounded familiar, like the dragging of metal coupled with staggered footsteps… The rhythmic buzzing of machinery, the red, hollow eyes, the shivers that were both from the frigid chill and his paralyzing fear, the echoing screams that sounded horribly like his own--

“Prompto.”

“W-wha?” He jerked at the sound of Ignis’ voice. “S-sorry, I guess I’m a little tired.”

Across the room, Gladio’s eyes narrowed slightly and Ignis pressed his lips into a fine line. However, neither of them pursued the issue of Prompto’s lapse in attention. “You mentioned seeing one of the military aircrafts yesterday, did you not?”

“Yeah, it was one of those really massive ones, headed for Fort Vaullerey. Just like the last time, when we first met Aranea.” Prompto gritted his teeth, frustrated with himself. His attention span had never been the best, but after his time in Gralea his focus was all over the place.

“Then they are indeed setting up a supply line. We must stop them, or they will be able to fuel their military exploits right under our noses.”

“And like hell we’re gonna let that happen.” Gladio grumbled. “Doesn’t matter that they’ve technically won the battle, I’m gonna make sure they fight for every damn bullet.”

“Indeed.”

Prompto nodded. “For sure.” His confidence was shaken, but he wasn’t about to let himself get beaten down.

Not this time.

Ignis had moved on, his pacing slowing to a halt. “After that has been dealt with, I believe tackling the base near Hammerhead will be our next priority. It will be more difficult, as the Empire will fortify their defenses once we destroy the first base, but we need the road to Insomnia clear for when Noct returns.”

That was when the idea struck, and Prompto spoke up suddenly.

“I’ll take that base out on my own.”

“The hell are you talking about?” Gladio and Ignis looked incredulous, but Prompto wasn’t deterred.

“Listen, if you two go to Fort Vaullerey and attack there, I can sneak into the other base no problem. Like Iggy said, we need that road to get back home.”

“...You want to use our attack as a diversion?” Ignis elaborated.

The gunner nodded. “Yeah, that’s the plan.”

“Any reinforcements in that area will likely be directed towards us once we launch our attack the Fort… I expect the chancellor will be anticipating a counterstrike from the three of us.” Ignis looked thoughtful.

“Except he won’t be expecting an attack on two fronts. After all, it’s stupid to try and tackle an entire military base solo.” Gladio folded his arms. However, before Prompto could protest, he added, “But that might be the opening we need.”

Ignis frowned. “It’s an extraordinarily reckless plan, Prompto.”

“I know, but I’ve gotta do this.”

“Oh?” He received questioning looks from Gladio and Ignis.

Prompto looked down at his lap. “I’m tired of hiding behind everyone and being the weak link. Even when I got captured, all I could do was sit and wait for you guys to come rescue me, like some damsel in distress…” His hands clenched into fists. “I’ve got to get stronger or I’ll never be able to help anyone… Not even myself, and definitely not Noct.”

The silence that followed the blonde’s words was heavy, but after a few moments, Ignis gave a resigned sigh.

“If that is what you believe… Very well. Do be careful, though.”

“Of course. I’ve gotta make it through so I can help Noct beat the shit outta Ardyn, right? I won’t go dying before that.”

Small smiles appeared on both Ignis’ and Gladio’s faces, and Prompto’s shoulders slumped in relief as they continued hashing out tactics. It wasn’t until everything was set that Gladio reached over and cuffed the gunner’s arm, a proud grin on his face.

“You’ve come a long way, Prompto.”

“Ahah,” Prompto returned the smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes. He could feel his chest tightening as the ghosts of metal and blood clouded his mind, the cold laughter and chilling prison of his old 'home' seared torturously into his memory. He took a deep breath and chased the traumatic flashbacks away, forcing himself back into reality.

“Yeah... I guess I have.”
