Do you have any more headcanons/thoughts about your Steph and Max as half-siblings AU? :)
BRO IVE BEEN OK
ive been wanting to discuss this for so long but for ppl who want to know (mostly background)
-i think that max and steph share the same dad, he seems like the one to sleep around. however, he settled w steph's mother and a secretly pregnant max's mother ended up w his ass of a dad.
-for a while, maybe 13-14 years, they never knew about their relation to each other. however, max and steph definitely saw the other one in school. max was praised as a football prodigy and steph was infamous for being a slacking and skipping mayor's daughter.
-they look somewhat similar. from the nose, ears, eyes, hell even the hair? there are small differences here and there, but they were definitely called siblings by their classmates
-they were also quite good friends. apparently, once u find out both ur dads are assholes, u bond. max would invite her to all his football games and she somehowb goes. these two were best friends, practically inseparable.
-one day in 7th grade, solomon was complaining to ms tessburger abt his affair. steph was overhearing about how it's odd to see one of kids succeed at something, while the daughter he has is doing nothing of importance.
-like any teenage girl w a completely shitty relationship w her father, steph was enraged, and a bit jealous. finding out she was related to max unlocked a bit of a one-sided hating towards him
-max however, always knew that he had a sister. before his mom divorced, she told him stories abt his birth father, and how when she was with him, she had no idea solomon already had a girlfriend.
-she reached out to steph's mother and had informed her of what happened. however, since she couldn't get out of the marriage jst yet, her mother instead acknowledged and thanked max's mother.
-ofc, max's mom never told him who his sister was. knowing him and his father, she feared that sudden new relation between him and the mayor's daughter may get to his head. so, instead she jst told him that he had a sister in hatchetfield.
-from around mid 7th grade to early 8th grade, max noticed how whenever steph was forced into a group w him, she'd always looked pissed off. annoyed. generally angry.
-in the 8th grade during lunch, max came up to her table, asking "the hell is wrong w me??? we used to be close u fuckin', uh... DINGUS!" this offended the hell out of steph and she umped out of her seat and started to swing punches at max. as any middle school in america does, a bunch of students started recording and posting it.
-steph and max sat in the principal's office, both with a lot of bruises and some bloody hands and noses. as solomon lauter and jagerman's father walked in, both of them stared at each other. eventually, max's father got into a full blown yell w solomon.
-as the two kids watched their fathers yelled at one another, that was when steph turned to max and finally revealed why she was so distant. "apparently, ur my fucking brother or smth."
-max sighed, looking at steph w a disappointed glare. "im sorry for being.. ur brother, i guess?" he replied, the two laughing as he explained his side of the story, and further strained the relationship between steph and solomon
(alr onto actual headcanons)
-they do love joking abt being half-siblings around their friends. despite it being true, theyre all so confused on if either max or steph is lying or not.
-the first person for max who found out that his sister was steph was kyle. he couldn't rlly believe it, but he jst kinda vibed. so max telling him went rlly chill.
-on steph's side however, when pete found out she had max jagerman as a brother, she was immediately bombarded with questions and pleas from pete. she tried offering these ideas to max, but he dismissed them, telling her "i need to remain on top, steph!" secretly, he does go easier on the nerds. by a little bit.
-max and steph spend the most time together outside of home, more at school or wherever. whether its going bowling w max's teammates at some bowling lanes, or hanging out in the lakeside mall jst the two of them.
-neither of them ever had a proper enough relationship w their family, so spending time w each other relived them of that disappointing truth a little bit.
-one time, max got so pissed at steph he threw a football at her from like, 40 yards away in order to get her attention. unfortunately, steph being preoccupied on her phone did not notice the absolute perfect throw coming right into her head.
-safe to say, he apologized and ran to her, trying his best to relieve her of a bruise.
-because of this incident, steph had wanted to begin learning how to play football. max was her teacher, and he sucked at it. like, explaining anything to her was alien to steph. however, over time, she slowly got the hang of it, and was good to a point when max stopped teaching her
-sometimes after a nighthawk game, if u stay jst long enough, u can see steph and max throw a football at each other from pretty far. and if ur lucky, seeing steph trying to tackle max. but most of the time, that mostly leads to the funniest image of steph falling ever.
i have a lot more, but my ask IS open yall lmaoooo

tae's solo has been everything i wanted and more so far!!! i can't wait to see the rest of his album.
but a lot of the negativity is throwing me off and i feel like people sound so defeated way too early when his debut has just started. like is he not doing extremely well objectively? i do think when it comes to kcharts they could be better but i've also heard people say the kcharts heavily rely on gp, not fandom. so i'm not surprised with the charting since the songs were announced less than a week ago and have received practically no promo. but the songs have been steadily rising! a lot of people have also been upset about the youtube views, but i think lma did pretty well and rainy days was about on par with the other member's solo releases so i don't think it's super disappointing. and it's no secret that less "flashy" mvs get less views and considering the mvs are both more slow paced i think this is still good!! and let's not forget he was able to get #1 on itunes in all major music markets and dozens of other countries, and the songs were often blocking each other. and now for spotify he pulled almost 4 mil each. and these are bsides!!
and maybe i'm not as disappointed because i knew they were bsides and so i was ready for most people to treat them like bsides. im hoping there'll be more momentum for slow dancing since it's the title track, and by then hopefully there'll be more promo as well.
like i get why people are disappointed but when you consider the context, i think tae has done really well so far. and i think this negativity isn't good for anyone. now if we see similar energy towards slow dancing then i'll be angry but i think we just need to wait and see how things play out. it can only get better from here and im so excited for taehyung!!
i completely agree! the negativity won’t help anyone and in general terms WE DID WELL because we got like 14 hours for love me again mv and 48 hours for TWO bsides, and we know the fandom is kinda bad at multitasking so it’s not that shocking, also two bsides that got no teasers or anything so.
To be honest, i am disappointed in kcharts but at the same time not really because karmys really never stream, we hold them on such a high pedestal but they’ve been slacking off so much recently (past year) and it’s concerning, like at what point will they realize that we can’t be the only one streaming and that they should do their part? like BUGS is such an easy chart, but the numbers were disappointing there too.
spotify usa streams also disappointed me… 300k is a bit low and i understand the timezone, being busy and whatsover, but still. spotify global streams have been good in the end, i mean layover alr at 10M streams and it’s prior release too. i’m gonna hope we get some teasers and some hype for slow dancing, major playlisting and some good promotion so that we can aim to big numbers and maybe give taehyung a high debut on hot100 because thats what he truly deserves but we need to motivate eo and not bring eo down bc that just won’t help. so yeah stream and have fun! :)

vro0m’s rewatch - 99/301
2012 British GP
Disclaimer for this season. It turns out that I only have the footage of the race for a lot of the GPs (no build-up, no post-race content) so there will be way less GIFs unfortunately. I will let you know for each of these reviews if there are GIFs or not. THIS ONE DOES NOT HAVE GIFS.
Silverstone! I only have access to the race again! Honestly it sucks.
So. Alonso is on pole. Jenson is somehow 16th on the grid?! Lewis is 8th... Seb 4th. Schumacher 3rd. Webber 2nd.
Formation lap.
Very mixed tyre strategy...
And they're racing!
Ohhh Alonso and Webber each went for the other side of the track so they crossed each, it was very close. Seb overtook Raikkonen who was in front, since when? So we have Alonso, Webber, Schumacher, Massa now?, Seb in 5th, Lewis lost a place. Di Resta has a puncture. Jenson has gained 4 places already.
Loads of overtaking in the midfield. Jenson got squeezed out of two places by a double overtake from Grosjean and Kobayashi. Grosjean just went wide. There's debris on the track from Di Resta's tyre. Grosjean pits, he must have sustained some damage. Lewis is back in eighth. Massa attacks Schumacher for 3rd but can't quite make it. And Seb attacks Massa for 4th but he can't quite make it either! Di Resta had managed to pit for new tyres but the next lap he retires anyway. There's more damage to his car.
Perez is closing in on Lewis who radioes that he has no pace and is struggling to keep up with the others. He's on hard tyres and those around him are on softs. There's a bit of a train behind Schumacher and Massa is at it again. A couple of laps later, Lewis' engineer answers him : "OK Lewis our pace is as good as if not better than everybody's ahead of us apart from Alonso who's also on the prime tyre. Everyone on the options, we're looking good compared to at the moment."
Perez almost overtook Lewis but Lewis is very close to Maldonado in front as well. Seb pits. It's early. Massa has done it! He's past Schumacher. Maldonado and Perez both pits! That's Lewis up in 6th. Schumacher pits. There's yellow flags and the DRS has been disabled. That's because Perez is stopped on the grass somewhere. Maldonado collided with him. Massa pits.
Ted tells us it turns out the hard tyres are doing surprisingly well and it favours those who started on other compounds so... Not Alonso and not Lewis.
15 laps in, Alonso is in the lead followed by Lewis who is almost 14 seconds behind. They both still have to pit. Then there's Kobayashi who I also don't think pitted yet. Webber, who has, then Hulkenberg, Jenson, Seb, and Massa. And Alonso pits. Lewis in the lead then but it won't last. Seb overtook Jenson and Jenson locked up trying to come back at him. And Massa also overtook him. Kobayashi, Hulkenberg and Jenson all pit.
Lewis' engineer tells him he really has to push now and to not worry about Alonso, who is half a second behind him. What a weird thing to say to your driver. I mean of course he's not actually racing him in the grand scheme of things but yeah. Anyway they're telling him he's doing a really good job. Alonso is attacking relentlessly and he overtakes him. No Lewis got it back, no Alonso got him again! Incredible.
I don't get McLaren's strategy right now. On the one hand they told him he's making a gap where he should and it's all good for the strategy but on the other hand it's been two laps since Alonso overtook him and they haven't pitted him yet while Massa is now lapping 2 seconds faster than him. Doesn't make sense. What are they waiting for.
Ah here we go, we're back on the Italian radio bs from Ferrari to Alonso.
Lewis pits finally! He's out in... 7th... Behind Raikkonen. He's on soft tyres now and he has to clear both the Lotuses and Schumacher ASAP. And his engineer tells him exactly that, he urges him to overtake them. And he does overtake Schumacher, whom Raikkonen had already gone past.
Perez called Maldonado "just a very stupid driver" in his interview with Lee Mackenzie.
Lewis pits AGAIN already?! He's back on the hard tyres but he'll have to make them last for 23 laps... Isn't that a bit much? Plus he's out in traffic. Seriously wtf McLaren. His first stint on the hards lasted 20 laps. His engineer tells him he has 23 laps to go, he won't stop again, and he's doing a great job.
Lewis overtakes Rosberg for 11th, so does Grosjean, who's faster than him... Lewis is now stuck behind Jenson. But he overtakes him with the DRS. But again so does Grosjean! Seb pitted for the second time. Now Jenson does as well. Lewis has doubts about the strategy but again his engineer says he's done a great stint on these tyres before and they can do it again. Webber comes in from P2. He's out in 4th, still in front of Seb. And Grosjean overtook Lewis...
Alonso pits. He's now on the softs then with 14 laps to go. Wow Kobayashi almost ran over some of his mechanics coming in! They had to jump out of the way... He apologises on team radio. One of them is receiving medical attention, says Ted.
Ow. Lewis set his personal best in the race, and that's 1 second slower than Grosjean's time at the moment. The McLaren's performance seems to be tanking throughout the season. Schumacher is now closing on Lewis.
In the meantime Webber is gaining on Alonso. 5 laps to go. And he does it, Webber leads.
And it's the end of the race.
So Webber P1, Alonso P2, Seb P3. Lewis P8.
AND again no GIFs. I don't like this season very much. I’d have loved to hear what Lewis had to say after that fiasco.

Longtermism: The Future Is Vast – What Does This Mean For Our Own Life?
If we manage to avoid a large catastrophe, we are living at the early beginnings of human history.
— By Max Roser | March 15, 2022
The point of this text is not to predict how many people will ever live. What I learned from writing this post is that our future is potentially very, very big.
If we keep each other safe – and protect ourselves from the risks that nature and we ourselves pose – we are only at the beginning of human history.
Our actions today impact those who will live in that vast future that is ahead of us.
Our impact can be negative – for example when we degrade the environment that future generations will inherit from us, or when we develop technologies that create risks for them.
But our impact can also be positive – by developing science that allows these future generations to live healthier lives, or by building a culture that enriches their lives in the way that our history enriches our lives.
The fact that our actions have an impact on the large number of people who will live after us should matter for how we think about our own lives. Those who ask themselves what they can do to act responsibly towards those who will live in the future call themselves ‘longtermists’.Longtermism is the ethical view that we should act in ways that reduce the risks that endanger our future, and in ways that make the long-term future go well.
Our Past
Before we look ahead, let’s look back. How many came before us? How many humans have ever lived?
It is not possible to answer this question precisely, but demographers Toshiko Kaneda and Carl Haub have tackled the question using the historical knowledge that we do have.
There isn’t a particular moment in which humanity came into existence, as the transition from species to species is gradual. But if one wants to count all humans one has to make a decision about when the first humans lived. The two demographers used 200,000 years before today as this cutoff.
The demographers estimate that in these 200,000 years about 109 billion people have lived and died.
It is these 109 billion people we have to thank for the civilization that we live in. The languages we speak, the food we cook, the music we enjoy, the tools we use – what we know we learned from them. The houses we live in, the infrastructure we rely on, the grand achievements of architecture – much of what we see around us was built by them.
Our Present
In 2022 7.95 billion of us are alive. Taken together with those who have died, about 117 billion humans have been born since the dawn of modern humankind.
This means that those of us who are alive now represent about 6.8% of all people who ever lived.
These numbers are hard to grasp. I tried to bring it into a visualization to put them into perspective.
It’s a giant hourglass. But instead of measuring the passage of time, it measures the passage of people.
Each grain of sand here represents 10 million people: each year 140 million babies are born. So we add 14 grains of sand to the hourglass. Every year, 60 million people die; this means 6 grains pass through the hourglass and are added to the large number of people who have died.
Tumblr media
Our Potential Future
How many people will be born in the future?
We don’t know.
But we know one thing: The future is immense, the universe will exist for trillions of years.
We can use this fact to get a sense of how many descendants we might have in that vast future ahead.
The number of future people depends on the size of the population at any point in time and how long each of them will live. But the most important factor will be how long humanity will exist.
Before we look at a range of very different potential futures, let’s start with a simple baseline.
We are mammals. One way to think about how long we might survive is to ask how long other mammals survive. It turns out that the lifespan of a typical mammalian species is about 1 million years. Let’s think about a future in which humanity exists for 1 million years: 200,000 years are already behind us, so there would be 800,000 years still ahead.
Let’s consider a scenario in which the population stabilizes at 11 billion people (based on the UN projections for the end of this century) and in which the average life length rises to 88 years.
In such a future, there would be 100 trillion people alive over the next 800,000 years.
The chart visualizes this. Each triangle represents 7.95 billion people – it is the green triangle shape from the hourglass above and corresponds to the number of us alive today.
Each row represents the birth of half a trillion children. For 100 trillion births there are 200 rows.
If you disagree with the numbers I use in my scenario it is easy for you to see how different numbers would lead to different futures. Here are two examples:
If you think the world population will stabilize at a level that’s 50% higher than in my calculation, then the number of future births will be 50% higher. The chart would be 50% wider. It would show the births of 150 trillion children.
If you think the world population will have a size of just one billion people, then the chart would be only an eleventh as wide and would show 9.1 trillion births.
The chart shows how many children might be born in the next 800,000 years, a future in which humans survive for as long as a typical mammalian species.
But, of course, humanity is anything but “a typical mammalian species.”
One thing that sets us apart is that we now – and this is a recent development – have the power to destroy ourselves. Since the development of nuclear weapons, it is in our power to kill all of us who are alive and cause the end of human history.
But we are also different from all other animals in that we have the possibility to protect ourselves, even against the most extreme risks. The poor dinosaurs had no defense against the asteroid that wiped them out. We do. We already have effective and well-funded asteroid-monitoring systems and, in case it becomes necessary, we might be able to deploy technology that protects us from an incoming asteroid. The development of powerful technology gives us the chance to survive for much longer than a typical mammalian species.
Our planet might remain habitable for roughly a billion years. If we survive as long as the Earth stays habitable, and based on the scenario above, this would be a future in which 125 quadrillion children will be born. A quadrillion is a 1 followed by 15 zeros: 1,000,000,000,000,000.
A billion years is a thousand times longer than the million years depicted in this chart. Even very slow moving changes will entirely transform our planet over such a long stretch of time: a billion years is a timespan in which the world will go through several supercontinent cycles – the world’s continents will collide and drift apart repeatedly; new mountain ranges will form and then erode, the oceans we are familiar with will disappear and new ones open up.
But if we protect ourselves well and find homes beyond Earth, the future could be much larger still.
The sun will exist for another 5 billion years. If we stay alive for all this time, and based on the scenario above, this would be a future in which 625 quadrillion children will be born.
How can we imagine a number as large as 625 quadrillion? We can get back to our sand metaphor from the first chart.
We can imagine today’s world population as a patch of sand on a beach. It’s a tiny patch of sand that barely qualifies as a beach, just large enough for a single person to sit down. One square meter.
If the current world population were represented by a tiny beach of one square meter, then 625 quadrillion people would make up a beach that is 17 meters wide and 4600 kilometers long. A beach that stretches all across the USA, from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast.
And humans could survive for even longer.
What this future might look like is hard to imagine. Just as it was hard to imagine, even quite recently, what today might look like. “This present moment used to be the unimaginable future,” as Stewart Brand put it.
Tumblr media
Our Responsibility is Vast
A catastrophe that ends human history would destroy the vast future that humanity would otherwise have.
And it would be horrific for those who will be alive at that time.
The people who live then will be just as real as you or me. They will exist, they just don’t exist yet. They will feel the sun on their skin and they will enjoy a swim in the sea. They will have the same hopes, they will feel the same pain.
‘Longtermism’ is the idea that people who live in the future matter morally just as much as those of us who are alive today. When we ask ourselves what we should do to make the world a better place, a longtermist does not only consider what we can do to help those around us right now, but also what we can do for those who come after us. The main point of this text – that humanity’s potential future is vast – matters greatly to longtermists. The key moral question of longtermism is ‘what can we do to improve the world’s long-term prospects?’.
In some ways many of us are already longtermists. The responsibility we have for future generations is why so many work to reduce the risks from climate change and environmental destruction.
But in other ways we pay only little attention to future risks. In the same way that we work to reduce the risks from climate change, we should pay attention to a wider range of potentially even larger risks and reduce them.
I am definitely frightened of these catastrophic and existential risks. In addition to nuclear weapons, there are two other major risks that worry me greatly: Pandemics, especially from engineered pathogens, and artificial intelligence technology. These technologies could lead to large catastrophes, either by someone using them as weapons or even unintentionally as the consequence of accidents.
Large Risks are Not Only a Problem in the Future — They are a Reality Now
We don’t have to think about people who live billions of years in the future to see our responsibilities. The majority of today’s children can expect to see the next century. Some of our grandchildren might live long enough to see the 23rd century. A catastrophe in the next decades would be horrific for people very close to us.
The focus of this text is the long-term future, but this shouldn’t give the impression that the risks we are facing are confined to the future. Several large risks that could lead to unprecedented disasters are already with us now. The use of the nuclear weapons that exist at this moment would kill millions immediately and billions in the ‘nuclear winter’ that follows (see my post on nuclear weapons). Not enough people have registered how the situation we are in has changed. AI capabilities and biotechnology have developed rapidly and are no longer science fiction; they are posing risks to those of us who are alive today.15
Similarly this text focuses mostly on the loss of human lives, but there would be other losses too: nuclear war would devastate nature and the world’s wildlife; existential catastrophes would destroy our culture, our civilization.
The point is that even if we only consider the impact of these risks on the present generation and only consider the potential loss of lives, they’re among the most pressing issues of our time. This is much more the case if we consider their impact beyond mortality and their impact on future generations.
The Reduction of Existential Risks is One of the Most Important Tasks of Our Time, Yet it is Extremely Neglected
The current pandemic has made it clear how badly the world has neglected pandemic preparedness. This illustrates a more general point. By reducing the risk of the catastrophes which would endanger our entire future – for example the very worst possible pandemics – we would also reduce the risk of smaller, yet still terrible, disasters, such as COVID-19.
As a society we spend only little attention, money, and effort on the risks that imperil our future. Few of us are longtermists. Only very few are even thinking about these risks, when in fact these are problems that should be central to our culture. The unprecedented power of today’s technology requires unprecedented responsibility.
Technological development made the high living standards of our time possible. I believe that a considerable share of the fruits from this growth should be spent on reducing the risks and negative consequences from particular technologies.
More researchers should be able to study these risks and how we can reduce them. I would love to see more artists who convey the importance of the vast future in their work. And crucially I think it needs competent political work. I imagine that one day countries will have ministries for the reduction of catastrophic and existential risks and some of the world’s most important institutions will be dedicated to the far-sighted work that protects humanity.
It will be too late to react once the worst has happened. This means we have to be proactive; we have to see the threats now.
The current situation in which these risks are hardly receiving any attention is frightening and depressing. But it is also a large opportunity. Because these risks are so very neglected, a career dedicated to the reduction of these risks is likely among the best opportunities that you have if you want to make the world a better place.
Our Opportunities Are Vast Too
So far I’ve only spoken about the risks that we face. But our large future means that there are large opportunities too.
Problems are solvable. This is for me the most important insight that I learned from writing Our World in Data over the last decade.
Compared to the vast future ahead, the two centuries shown in this chart here are only a brief episode of human history. But even in such a short period we have made substantial progress against many large problems.
Given enough time we can end the horrors of today. Poverty is not inevitable; we can achieve a future where people are not suffering from scarcity. Diseases that are incurable today might be curable in just a few generations; we already have an amazing track record in improving people’s health. And we can achieve a world in which we stop damaging the environment and achieve a future in which the world’s wildlife flourishes.
Our children and grandchildren can continue the progress we are making, and they may create art and build a society more beautiful than we can even imagine.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
The point of this text was to see that the future is big. If we keep each other safe the huge majority of humans who will ever live will live in the future.
And this requires us to be more careful and considerate than we currently are. Just as we look back to the heroes who achieved what we enjoy today, those who come after us will remember what we did for them. We will be the ancestors of a very large number of people. Let’s make sure we are good ancestors.
For this we need to take the risks we are facing more seriously. The risks we are already facing are high. Giving this reality the attention it deserves is the first step, and only very few have taken it. The next step will be to identify what we can do to reduce these risks, and then set about doing that.
Let’s also see the opportunity that we have. Those who came before us left us a much better world; we can do the same for the many who come after us.

Whumptober Day 14 – Popsicles
Fandom: Stray Kids
Sickie/Little: Felix (4-5)
Caregiver: Chan (+ Seungmin & Jeongin)
It had barely been a month since Chan had become Caregiver to the most adorable little he could imagine. By accident he had walked in on his fellow aussie-liner sitting on the bedroom floor seemingly in his on world. The younger boy had a pacifier between his lips and was happily working on a coloring book with crayons strewn everywhere. Chan had stopped dead in his tracks, confusion evident on his face.  Felix had started to panic the second he noticed the leader standing in the doorway and between hyperventilating and sobbing had struggled to explain the situation. Luckily Chan was very openminded and had supplemented the small amount of information Felix had been able to give him that day with his own internet research about little space. A few days later he had a calm conversation with the younger aussie and learned that the boy usually regressed to around 4 or 5 years old. Felix loved coloring books and pacifiers, preferred chocolate milk over unflavored milk and couldn’t sleep without his bunny plush. Knowing those facts warmed Chan’s heart and when he remembered what he had read online he had immediately asked about the Felix’ caregiver. That was a topic Felix really didn’t like talking about, he had been craving someone who would watch out for little Lixxie and make him feel safe. Chan had noticed how quiet Felix had turned avoiding his leader’s eyes, so he guessed the younger was on his own. Long story short, Chan had taken it upon himself to care for his friend and the little couldn’t have been happier.
After much gentle persuasion Felix at outed himself as a little in front of the other members and though it took a lot of explaining all of then were very supportive. That gave Lixxie more chances to regress since he didn’t have to wait for the rare times that he’d be alone at the dorm. The first time he regressed in front of them they were immediately whipped for little Lixxie and gave him lots of love and affection. As much as Felix enjoyed his members cuddling him and playing with him, at the end of the day there was only one person he wanted. Chan had been over the moon as the title daddy had slipped from the little’s lips. From that point on it was a common occurrence that he’d wake up to a sleepy Felix cuddled up against him. The older for sure didn’t mind.
Today Felix woke up regressed in his own bed and if there was something little Lixxie really hated, it was waking up alone. He should have had expected this after going to bed early last night due to a heavy exhaustion that had settled over his body. Just as well his blocked nose and sore throat shouldn’t be as much of a surprise considering he had been feeling a bit off for the last few days. Feeling icky and alone was not how he wanted to start his day, especially not given today was a rare day off and Chan had promised to take him to a playground close by. He gave a frustrated whine, immediately tearing up as the action sent a sharp pain through his throat. Silently sobbing he reached for his bunny and clutched it tight to his chest. He was scared being unable to produce a sound no matter how hard he tried. Being involuntarily silenced, he had no chance of grabbing his caregiver’s attention who was supposedly a few rooms away. With a sniffle the little wiped his tears and decided to go looking for his daddy. Taking his bunny with him he slowly made his way to the living room. Much to his disappointment the desired member wasn’t there and he was only met with Seungmin and Jeongin. Hearing quiet sniffles the two looked up and spotted a teary Felix standing in the middle of the room looking a little lost. Seungmin was the first to react, getting up and slowly approaching his hyung. “Good morning, Felix. Are you ok?”, he chose not to use any honorifics, being unsure how old his friend was feeling at the moment. The little buried his face in the other’s chest starting to sob again. Panicking Seungmin wrapped his arms around Felix rubbing his back and guiding him to the sofa. Jeongin disappeared to get Chan suspecting his Australian friend to be regressed. Seungmin tried calming the upset little down by holding him in his lap rocking gently from side to side and ensuring him everything would be ok. His attempts were rather unsuccessful as Felix only seemed to get more worked up. The singer was confused at how quiet Lixxie’s cries sounded. Usually he would wail rather loud to emphasize he needed something. Something turned out to be his caregiver most of the time. Just as Seungmin was about to despair, a hurried Chan walked in followed by a worried Jeongin. The leader picked his little up bouncing him on his hip while Felix hid his face against his caregiver’s neck. “I’m here sunshine, Daddy’s here. It’s ok”, Chan tried to soothe but the little shook his head unable to calm down. “Can you tell daddy what’s not ok?”, again just a short shake of the head. The caregiver sighed taking his baby back to his bedroom pulling out a pacifier, Felix loved his pacifier. Sitting down on the edge of the bed, he placed the paci between the little’s lips and started humming softly. However, he didn’t expect Felix to spit the paci out not shortly after, gasping for breath. He also didn’t realize that the little wanted his paci but with a blocked nose it was just too difficult to breath. Chan frowned running out of ideas to comfort his baby, so he just continued humming and stroking his back. After a while the younger had exhausted himself and was reduced to silent sniffles. “Are you ok now? It’s only Minnie and Innie home with us right now, so it’s alright if you’re feeling a little shy today. The others went on a shopping trip and will probably gone till the evening. We can just stay here, we don’t have to go to the playground if you’d rather have some privacy.” Felix shook his head, lips starting to wobble again at the mention of the words trip and playground. How impatient had he been looking forward to going to the playground. Quickly changing the topic the older announced it was time to have breakfast receiving a small nod.
After a small trip to the bathroom to clean Lixxie’s tearstained face, they were on their way to grab some food. Walking to the kitchen Chan wracked his brain to find an explanation for why his little was acting so strange. “So, what do you want to eat baby?”, he asked but received no answer. The little just blinked at him sadly. The other two maknae-liners walked in as the leader placed Felix down on the countertop. Seungmin was carrying the stuffed bunny the little had dropped on the sofa earlier as he got picked up by his caregiver. “Is he alright now?”, Jeongin asked worriedly. “I’m not sure. He’s acting really strange and hasn’t said a single word yet. Hm, Lixxie, you’re worrying us, baby”, Chan replied cupping the little’s cheek and noticing his skin felt a bit warm. Holding the stuffy up, Seungmin stepped in front of his regressed member: “Cutie, can you tell Minnie how old you are?”  Felix stopped making grabby hands for his bunny and held up four fingers. “Hmm, I thought he might be younger than usual, nonverbal…”, Seungmin explained his question. Since Felix still hasn’t voiced his desired breakfast, they had just settled for some toast. The four sat around the breakfast table, each of them deep in their own thoughts. Three of them trying to make sense of the young aussie’s actions, said aussie trying to figure out how he could make the others see what he was struggling with. Chan cut the toast into small bitesize pieces and went to feed his baby. Lixxie opened his mouth wide suddenly realizing how hungry he was and forgetting about the ache in his throat. He was painfully reminded when he attempted to swallow, gagging on his food and only managing to get it down with a cringe. Tears streamed down his face again and made grabby hands for his caregiver. The older sat him on his lap and picked up another bite but Felix kept rejecting every kind of food they offered to him. Seungmin decided to give it one last try and filled one of the little’s sippy cups with chocolate milk straight from the fridge. It seemed like a success when the little immediately started drinking. The cool milk wasn’t hurting him as badly and the sweetness gave him a sense of comfort. Sadly, when he had finished the pain came back and he put the cup down flinching. This time though it didn’t go unnoticed how his hand went up to rub at his throat. “Sweetie, is your throat hurting?”, Chan concluded gently. Sniffling Felix gave a small nod and turned around to press his forehead against the caregiver’s collarbone. “Aww, is my sunshine feeling icky?” Again, a nod followed by a weak cough. The leader got up with a sigh and carried his little over to the sofa. “Sorry it took me so long to figure it out, bub. Can you wait here for a minute? I’ll just go grab you a blanket so we can get comfy and watch some cartoons to take your mind off. Alright?” After receiving a confirming nod he hurried off and soon returned to the ailing little waiting patiently on the sofa. The remaining two members finished their breakfast and cleared of the table.
While Chan gathered Lixxie up in a blanket and allowed the younger to get all cozy in his arms, the maknaes thought really hard to think of something helpful to do. Jeongin’s face suddenly lit up and he started rummaging through the freezer with Seungmin watching over his shoulder curiously. After some digging the youngest held up a popsicle and smiled. “Hey, Lixxie, look what I found for you”, The maknae beamed as he walked into the livingroom. Felix’ smile mirrored Jeongin’s and given he was still hungry he started to suck happily on the popsicle right away. Chan rewarded I.N. with a grateful and relieved smile patting the sofa next to him. As much as the two maknaes wanted to join the pair with their cartoons they already had a different plan. A quick check of the freezer proved they had now officially run out of popsicles which seemed to be the only thing their baby could eat at the moment. Whether it was a good idea to let the two use the kitchen on their own might be debatable but that’s what they did. Gathering different fruit they found they started chopping away. By blending the fruit with some yoghurt and honey before freezing the mixture in plastic cups with a spoon in the middle they managed to make their own homemade popsicles. In the end they were really proud of the result and knowing their version of the treat would provide their beloved little with proper nutrients and the vitamins he’d need to get healthy again filled them with joy. It took some time to clean the mess in the kitchen but after finishing they finally got to join their friends and watch cartoons. With some persuasion Seungmin got Felix to climb into his lap instead of Chan’s so the leader could have a well needed bathroom break and grab a bite for himself for which he didn’t have the time earlier. Upon returning he found his little fast asleep in Seungmin’s arms with Jeongin drawing shapes onto his back through the blanket. To say he was proud of his group and their dynamics didn’t even get close to what he felt as he took in the sight and was finally able to relax himself.

15 Hardest PlayStation 3 Games of All Time
https://ift.tt/3vtwp5A
The PlayStation 3 ranks below the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 4 in the minds of many fans, but it has to be said that the sometimes maligned console is also the home of some of the most notably difficult video games of the relatively modern era.
While I don’t think that Sony and their studio partners simply woke up and chose violence in regards to how difficult some of the PS3’s most notable games are, it’s kind of amazing to think that some of this console’s best titles helped change the conversations we have about the very concept of difficult video games. For that matter, some of the PS3’s best action games are the hardest we’ve seen since the arcade era.
You can probably already guess the names of two of the games on this list based on the premise alone, but these are the other most difficult PS3 games ever made.
15. Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Solid 4 is challenging in all the ways its predecessors were (stealth-based gameplay is usually pretty difficult), but this sequel’s level design and additional mechanics make this entry a much more complicated overall take on the Metal Gear series.
The steep learning curve of Metal Gear Solid 4’s opening area is enough to throw anyone off, but what’s really shocking are the various ways this game manages to challenge you even after you assume you’ve “figured it out.” I can’t imagine beating this game on Big Boss Extreme Mode where getting caught means almost certain death.
14. God of War 3
God of War 3 is an interesting example of a difficult game in the more modern age. It’s not as challenging as the previous two major games in the series, and I could honestly see someone arguing that the “Normal” mode version of this game doesn’t even belong on this list.
However, the moment you decide to explore one of this game’s harder difficulty modes is the moment you agree to enter a world of pain. Simply put, God of War 3 serves up some of the most punishing supplementary difficulty modes in video game history. You really have to experience them to appreciate just how hard they are.
13. Heavenly Sword
Developer Ninja Theory’s first major game is a real mixed bag. While it features quite a few early glimpses at the creative powerhouse this studio would eventually become, it’s also a sloppy action game with bad controls and a terrible camera that often contribute to its overall difficulty.
Honestly, though, the final battle against King Bohan is reason enough to put Heavenly Sword on this particular list. Imagine trying to fight a particularly difficult Dark Souls boss without the smooth controls and incredible combat mechanics that FromSoftware games are known for. That’s about what you get here.
12. Trash Panic
This mostly obscure puzzle game that asks you to stack pieces of trash on top of each other may initially come across as a Tetris rip-off. However, Trash Panic actually encourages you to bend, smash, break, and jam every available piece of trash into place rather than worry about everything lining up cleanly.
That emphasis on “sloppy” puzzles combined with the game’s unique physics-based piece manipulation system means that Trash Panic forces you to think well outside of the genre box. Trash Panic is relatively easy to learn, but the game’s later levels will leave you wondering what (if anything) you can possibly do to survive.
11. SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs
The SOCOM series is generally underrated in terms of both its overall quality and how difficult the entries in this franchise tend to be.
SOCOM 4 isn’t necessarily the most difficult SOCOM game, but drastic improvements to this game’s enemy AI compared to previous SOCOM titles mean that this game’s tactical, trial-and-error-based gameplay is just a little more infuriating than ever. It will definitely give genre fans the challenge that they’re looking for.
10. Vanquish
I could spend the rest of this list talking about how brilliant Vanquish is and the many reasons why you should play it if you haven’t already, but in order to stay on target, let’s just talk about this game’s brilliant difficulty options.
Depending on which difficult mode you choose, Vanquish can either be so easy that it essentially plays itself or possibly the most difficult third-person shooter you’ll ever play. What’s truly remarkable, though, is that this game remains an expertly balanced and well-constructed action experience regardless of how punishing you want it to be.
9. Warhawk
Warhawk is a strange game to talk about in terms of difficulty. Not only was it an online multiplayer game, but because its official servers were shut down years ago, you kind of have to take our word on the matter regarding how challenging it was (if you never got the chance to experience it yourself, of course).
Warhawk’s unique multi-front combat required you to master a variety of gameplay styles in a way that only the most complicated Battlefield titles could possibly prepare you for. Warhawk is a piece of beautiful chaos when it all comes together, but part of what made this game such a unique multiplayer experience was Incognito Entertainment’s commitment to encouraging players to master everything it threw at them.

8. Catherine
There is just no good way to accurately describe Catherine in a few mere sentences. It’s a social-sim love story with psychological horror elements that requires you to navigate a series of twisted dreamscapes that take the form of puzzles. It’s…a lot.
As you’ve probably already guessed given the context of this discussion, Catherine is also an incredibly difficult game. The title’s bizarre gameplay is difficult enough to overcome, but the moment you kind of figure out what you’re supposed to do is the moment that this game cranks up the difficulty to an almost comical level. It’s a brain teaser combined with a mind f***.
7. Killzone 2
Killzone 2 is best known for that “fake” trailer that helped change E3 forever, but it’s actually an incredibly good FPS game that also happens to be stunningly difficult.
Killzone 2’s brand of run-and-gun gameplay was challenging enough at the time of this game’s release, but I’d argue that this shooter is harder than ever for the simple fact that there are so few modern FPS titles that properly prepare you for this kind of mayhem. It’s a wonderful action experience.
6. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
While Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance deserves more love than it ever really seems to get, I’ll be the first fan of this game to admit that this game’s difficulty is severe enough to probably chase away people who might otherwise love it.
This is one of the best examples of a fascinating era in game design when developers were trying to reimagine the days of old-school difficult action games for the 3D era. This game refuses to accept anything less than your absolute best, and that’s part of the magic that makes the whole thing so satisfying.
5. Wipeout HD
While most games with the Wipeout name deserve to be in any conversation about the most difficult racing games ever made, Wipeout HD ups the ante in a way that you just have to respect.
What I “love” about this game’s particular brand of difficulty is the way it forces you to learn to recover from your mistakes rather than simply try and try again until you achieve that perfect run. You will bounce off the walls time and time again in this game, but the trick is finding a way to maintain your cool and get back into the race.
4. Dark Souls
The gold standard for difficult games in the modern age has kicked off numerous compelling conversations about accessibility, gatekeeping, and the role of difficulty in video games. The one talking point I often find most interesting, though, is the idea that Dark Souls isn’t actually that hard.
Well, Dark Souls is, in fact, very hard, but what I will say is that this game deserves all the praise it can get for the way it turned difficulty into an adventure rather than a roadblock. This epic journey through a world that wants you dead is uniquely capable of sweeping you off your feet one moment and then empowering you in the next.
3. Demon’s Souls
To get to the point you’re all probably wondering about, this particular choice does mean that I think Demon’s Souls is slightly more difficult than Dark Souls.
Demon’s Souls may be easier to “cheese” than Dark Souls, but Demon’s Souls more confusing design combined with its punishing levels and absurdly difficult standard enemies mean that it really emphasizes the more “troll-like” design elements that this series is sometimes famous for.
2. Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Ninja Gaiden Sigma is essentially the PS3 port of Ninja Gaiden Black (plus or minus a few features), which means that it’s also a port of one of the most difficult 3D action games of an era famous for difficult 3D action games.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma isn’t quite as “fast” as titles like Devil May Cry or Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but its slightly more methodical style of gameplay and its comparative lack of evasive options means that you really have to carefully consider your every move. There’s just something so satisfying about locking yourself into this title’s gameplay “zone” and getting to feel the weight of a properly executed sequence.
1. Hard Corps: Uprising
Not only does Hard Corps: Uprising not get enough love for being one of the 2D action games of the last twenty years (Arc System Works’ interpretation of Contra is just a beautiful thing to behold) but I’m starting to feel like people have forgotten just how difficult this game truly is.
Some of this game’s later levels essentially feel like you’re trying to play a Contra game in the style of a bullet hell shooter while also trying to navigate the speeder bike level from Battletoads. Call it a throwback to the era of “NES Hard” if you want, but with the possible exception of Contra: Hard Corps, I’m not sure I’ve ever played a 2D action game from any era that requires the reaction times and precision commands that this game regularly demands.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
In a world where people love to insist that difficult video games aren’t that difficult, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anyone argue against this game’s difficulty with a straight face.

#66, Surah 10
THE QURAN READ-ALONG: DAY 66
Tumblr media
Get into the TARDIS because we’re headed back to the middle Mecca days. Surah ten is called Yunus, or Jonah, as in The Whale Guy. It’s a very boring surah and largely a complete waste of your time. You will not remember a single thing here within two weeks’ time, I assure you. It’s at least not violent, compared to the hot-ass mess that was the last one, and it’s not too long, around 100 ayat. I think we’ll be able to move through it pretty quickly, well under a week.
Because it’s so boring, I didn’t really know what the header image should be. Jonah himself only shows up in one ayah and isn’t really the focus of the surah--the surah doesn’t particularly have a focus. So I chose this thing. The Quran repeatedly challenges people to produce a surah similar to those Mohammed recited, including in this surah (10:38). This is, of course, a moronic challenge, because as we’ve seen, the Quran is full of nonsense. Muslims typically say in response to this: “oh, but it’s meant in a poetic way, the challenge is to produce an Arabic surah that is just as lovely!!”. This has been accomplished many times, and one of them is in the header up there. It’s a Christian prayer book written in Quran-style poetic Arabic. Read here on scribd if you would like.  There are many other examples of a surah “the like thereof”. I may link to some others in a later section.
The basic divisions of surah 10 are disbelievers go to hell -> polytheists suck -> Biblical stories. Let’s get started.
Random letters start us off, ALR this time. 10:2 reminds us that Mohammed is a prophet and says that the disbelievers refuse to believe him. Allah is god. Neutral, but for those of you playing the “how many ayat until the first bad one?” game at home, if you guessed four, you won!! 10:4:
Lo! He produceth creation, then reproduceth it, that He may reward those who believe and do good works with equity; while, as for those who disbelieve, theirs will be a boiling drink and painful doom because they disbelieved.
Kuffar hell counter (1) rises to fight another match! This is the second time the boiling drink thing is mentioned; we previously saw it in 6:70, which was also a middle Meccan surah. Mohammed didn’t come up with his more inventive hell imagery until later. Bad regardless, obviously.
Allah made the sun shine and made the moon a light (hrm...) so that people could use it to measure the year. The Islamic (and pre-Islamic Arabian) calendar is a lunar one, if you didn’t know. Everything that Allah creates is a sign. Fair enough so far, neutral. But then!!! 10:7-8:
Lo! those who expect not the meeting with Us but desire the life of the world and feel secure therein, and those who are neglectful of Our revelations, Their home will be the Fire because of what they used to earn.
Wow, two kuffar hell counter (2) entries less than ten ayat in! At least 10:9 says that good Muslims go to heaven, which I will, as always, label good, even when it follows a “disbelievers are doomed” ayah, like this one does...
In heaven, Muslims will praise Allah, which is neutral. I mean, jannah is basically just that, eating and drinking, and screwing pretty heavenly virgins, as we’ve seen. 10:11 is a bit grammatically confusing. Pickthall translates it as:
If Allah were to hasten on for men the ill (that they have earned) as they would hasten on the good, their respite would already have expired.
I think this basically means that people pray for good things and want Allah to deliver them, but they deserve bad things (for being disbelievers, etc), and Allah is being merciful in not immediately slapping them down? Eh... this ayat gets a bad label for its second half, as it continues:
But We suffer those who look not for the meeting with Us to wander blindly on in their contumacy.
[contumacy (noun): stubborn refusal to obey or comply with authority, especially a court order or summons.]
The disbelievers are refusing to believe in Allah, so Allah makes them spiritually blind so they will continue to refuse to believe in Allah. Again, this makes no sense, but we’ve been over this already.
10:12 is a neutral complaint about how mankind is ungrateful to Allah when he answers their prayers. Then 10:13 is a bad recap of all our adventures in surah seven:
We destroyed the generations before you when they did wrong; and their messengers (from Allah) came unto them with clear proofs (of His Sovereignty) but they would not believe. Thus do We reward the guilty folk.
Allah tells Mohammed that he is now observing how this current generation behaves (and will determine if they deserve to be destroyed or not).
Something to keep in mind as we move back between Medina and Mecca suwar is Mohammed’s changing definition of The Doom. In his early days, he promised the evildoing disbelievers of Mecca that they’d be wiped out by Allah if they didn’t convert. This is typically framed as a natural disaster or some such--Noah’s flood, the earthquakes and “shouts” that destroyed the other Arab disbelievers, the hailstorm of Sodom, etc. But that.... did not happen, and by the Medina days, Mohammed began conceiving of himself (and his army) as Allah’s punishment. Most of the violent ayat in the Meccan suwar are referring to essentially supernatural events. In contrast, the later chapters of the Quran are violent on a literal level, in part because Mohammed started casting himself as The Doom personified.
Anyway, in 10:15, Mohammed complains that the polytheists don’t care for his “revelations”, and tell him to “Bring a Lecture other than this”. Of course, he says that he can’t change his boring-ass lectures, because Allah is sending them to him. So the polytheists should start believing him immediately, because no one does a “greater wrong” than those who deny his revelations. The last one is bad, the other two are neutral.
Finally, in 10:18, Mohammed informs the polytheists that their gods are fake. Before people started going astray, everyone was the same religion (Muslim, of course). Allah has sent Mohammed to bring them back to the correct path. Solidly neutral.
So there’s our intro to surah ten. Thus far, this is all very much a repeat of stuff we’ve already seen, and a boring one at that. There is a tiny bit of new content later on, so hold tight.
NEXT TIME: Mohammed challenges polytheists to a rap battle!!!
The Quran Read-Along: Day 66
Ayat: 20
Good: 1 (10:9)
Neutral: 13 (10:1-3, 10:5-6, 10:10, 10:12, 10:14-16, 10:18-20)
Bad: 6 (10:4, 10:7-8, 10:11, 10:13, 10:17)
Kuffar hell counter: 2 (10:4, 10:7-8)
