When Madeline first met Quinn she started crying, not because she disliked him, but because he had stepped on her hand with one of his skates. Of course, there wasn’t any blood because he still had his skate guards on, but 5-year-old Maddie didn’t know.

From there, their meetings became a much more constant thing until the point where 13 years later they were in his dorm room, preparing for his draft day.

“Are you sure you’ve got everything in there?” Maddie asked Quinn, doubting the boy’s packing skills.

“Yes Mads, I’m sure. You can stop worrying about it”—he said, caressing the crease between her eyes with his thumb, relieving the stress he noticed she had accumulated in the past few days.

“I know, I know. But I can’t stop worrying, it’s the most important day of your life so far and I’m not gonna be there”

“I already told you it’s fine, You’ve got work here, and besides, you will be with me” Quinn assured her.

"Yeah but through the TV" she sighed, stuffing her face against her hands.

“Hey, no moping around. I need you to be happy” 

“I am! I swear. Now you gotta go, or you will never catch your flight” she said standing up and pushing him out of his room.

“Fine, I’ll go. Promise me you’ll be fine” he said, wrapping his arms around her shoulders.

“I should be the one telling you that, but yes. I will be fine” the sound of her voice coming out muffled by his chest.

When the next day came, Maddie was all over the place. Every time they showed Quinn on the TV she felt how her nerves grew and another feeling she couldn’t quite decipher yet, but she brushed it off as Vancouver was the next team to select.

When they called Quinn’s name, Maddie couldn’t contain her happiness as she watched her best friend climb the steps of the stage and put on his Canucks jersey. She couldn’t be prouder. Her best friend was selected 7th overall, he was going to play in the NHL, and he was going to fulfill his dream. 

A few hours later, Maddie was in her room yet to hear a response from Quinn when her phone rang signaling the arrival of a text, she couldn’t help but get excited when she thought it was from him.

But her smile nearly dropped as she saw that it was Jack who had texted her. Opening the text she felt how her stomach dropped. It was a video that Jack took, clearly after taking one too many shots, but that wasn’t the issue, the issue was at the back of the video as she saw Quinn dancing with a gorgeous girl with her arms draped around his shoulders and his around her waist.

She didn’t want to watch the video anymore so all she did was like it. That’s when she deciphered the feeling she was having earlier, she was in love with Quinn Hughes. She had always been in love with him, but she hadn’t noticed until now when she thought it was too late.

She then realized that she would never have a chance with him, let’s be honest, he just got drafted into the NHL, and it was a matter of time before he had thousands of gorgeous girls dying to feel his touch, wondering what would be like to love him. 

Meanwhile in Dallas, Quinn was too intoxicated to see that the girl he was dancing with wasn’t his Mads. The Mads for whom he had always felt more than a friendship.

In a lucid moment where the alcohol lowered its effect, he realized the girl wasn’t Maddie so he excused himself and decided to put an end to his night. He went to the hotel with his family to finally rest and then return home to Maddie.

When the Hugheses returned to Michigan, Quinn could only think about going to Maddie’s house and spending time with her. So when he finally arrived at her house he was more than disappointed when he saw that Maddie was acting distant.

“Mads, look at me. Are you okay? Did something happen while I was gone?” he said putting two fingers under her chin so she would look at his eyes.

“Uhm…I wanted to tell you something. I know you just got drafted and that you’ll be staying here for another year and all that, but I feel that the best thing for us would be to distance ourselves, you know so your departure doesn’t hurt as much in the future” she said still trying to avoid eye contact because she knew that wasn't the truth, the truth was she couldn't handle being with him and not doing anything about her feelings.

“Where is this coming from? Do you think I could go to another country without you? Mads, I was planning on taking you with me” he said worried about her reaction, thinking it would be too much for her.

"I don't think I can Quinn," she said playing with her bracelets, a habit that Quinn didn't let go unnoticed since she did it every time she lied.

"I know you're lying! Just tell me what's wrong, I'm here for you" he pressured her to the point where she couldn't handle it anymore.

"I saw you after the draft dancing with that girl Quinn, and I know I don't have any right to be like this but I'm out of my mind in love with you, and-"

She couldn't finish her sentence as Quinn's lips crashed against hers. It was like everything they both had ever desired was there, everything was as it was supposed to be. It was the kind of kiss to create stars and they would climb into the sky and light up the whole world.

That kiss made Quinn know that he would never be as happy as he was kissing his Mads, the girl he had always loved.

"God I've waited a whole lot of years for this" Quinn confessed as he pulled his lips from hers, closing his eyes to savor the moment.

"Wh-what do you mean? What about the girl?"

"I'm gonna sound like the shittiest human alive but I thought that was you. Mads, I've loved you since you read that corny poem about butterflies in 3rd grade. At that moment I noticed how your eyes twinkled so beautifully that I swore I could drown in them"

"God you're cornier than that poem," she said as she giggled.

"I don't care, I finally have you," he said while pulling her into another kiss. "I've never felt or seen love as pure as ours, Mads. I love you"

"I love you too, Quinny. Now keep kissing me, you've got a lot to catch up on" she said smiling, never being as happy and loved as at that moment.

Annabeth Tries to Swim Home

FADE IN: INT. DARK VICTORIAN HOUSE - NIGHT. 

A YOUNG ANNABETH runs down the hallway. A storm can be heard outside. She stops, looking behind her, then frantically all around. 

YOUNG ANNABETH: Luke? Thalia? 

Someone in the house screams. 

Annabeth begins running again. She turns a corner, finding herself in a study. The walls are lined with half-empty bookshelves, books and loose pages all over the floor. The antique desk in the middle of the room is broken, the chair overturned. Heavy velvet curtains block the light out, but one sways, as if the window behind it is broken. 

Annabeth backs out of the room slowly, then runs back the other way. 

She gasps for breath, but makes very little noise. 

Annabeth runs up a flight of stairs, into a new hallway that looks just like the one she just came from. As she enters different rooms, she hears her friends over the storm. 

GROVER (O.S.): Luke!

LUKE (O.S.): Thalia!

THALIA (O.S.): Annabeth!

Annabeth is still running, turning corners over and over. She enters a nursery with a broken crib and wooden toys strewn all over the floor. She runs through a dressing room with a mirror shattered on the carpet. She backtracks out of a bathroom with a cracked claw-foot tub and blood dried on the floor. 

THUNDER crashes outside. 

CYCLOPS laughs ominously off screen. Annabeth runs faster. 

She turns a corner and has to catch herself with her hands to stop from running into a wall. She pauses, breathing heavily as she looks down another dark hallway. 

THALIA AND LUKE (O.S.): Annabeth!

THALIA (CONT, O.S.): Run--

Annabeth starts running again. 

DISSOLVE TO: EXT. QUEEN ANNE’S REVENGE – NIGHT.

Camera pans down from black sky, pausing on Hercules constellation. ANNABETH and PERCY are standing on the deck, near the steering wheel. 

ANNABETH: (Turning from the stars to look at Percy) Percy.

Percy, who has been looking out at the sea, watching for monsters, looks at Annabeth. 

ANNABETH (CONT): Can I ask for a favor?

PERCY: You just saved my life.

ANNABETH: Soon... We should be coming near the Sirens’ Island. When we’re in range of their song… (Staring at the tub of candle wax across the deck) I want to hear them.

PERCY: Why? Don’t their voices kill people?

ANNABETH: They lure people in, Seaweed Brain. The song doesn’t kill you, you die when you jump overboard. The myths say they’re so enchanting because they sing the truth about what you desire. Things you don’t even know about yourself. If you survive...

Annabeth looks out at the sea. Percy looks at Annabeth.

ANNABETH (CONT): You become wiser. I want to hear them. (Makes eye contact with Percy) How often will I get that kind of chance?

PERCY: (After a thoughtful pause) Okay.

ANNABETH: Okay?

PERCY: Okay. It makes sense. If anyone would want to hear it, it would be you. What’s your plan?

ANNABETH: You’ll have to tie me to the mast. And, Percy, I’m going to want to get free. I’m going to beg, but you can’t untie me. I’ll just go straight over the edge to drown myself.

PERCY: (trying for levity) Are you trying to tempt me?

ANNABETH: Promise me, Percy.

PERCY: You don’t have to worry about it, Wise Girl. You won’t get away from me that easily.

They look at each other. 

PERCY (CONT): How long until we get there?

ANNABETH: A few hours, I think. You should go below. Get some rest. (before Percy can argue) Go, Percy.

Percy heads below deck, settling into a hammock in the Captain’s Quarters. He closes his eyes and falls asleep.

CUT TO: INT. PRINCESS ANDROMEDA STATEROOM – NIGHT

PERCY stands alone in the dark room. Near the windows is the golden sarcophagus, glowing faintly.

VOICES (INDETERMINATE): Beware. 

VOICES overlap and echo.

KRONOS: (laughing) You don’t have the courage, young hero.

Percy uncaps his sword, but remains frozen in place.

KRONOS (CONT): You can’t stop me. 

Percy struggles against his frozen legs, clearly frustrated. 

THALIA: (appearing suddenly) Well? Are we going to stop him or not

Voices continue their echo in the background. Percy stares at the unknown girl, clearly trying to solve the puzzle of who she is. 

THALIA (CONT): Well? Come on, dude.

Percy remains frozen. THALIA approaches the sarcophagus, sword and shield at the ready. Percy tries to call out for her to stop, but no sound comes out of his mouth. The voices crescendo. 

Thalia opens the sarcophagus, staring down at the golden glow in horror. 

THALIA (CONT): No. No, it can’t be.

Kronos’ laugh echoes as Thalia screams. The light grows brighter.

Toto is in his office in Brackley, behind his big desk, glass walls, open door policy, looking out at a bunch of his employees steadily working away and none of them realise, none of them understand what is happening in the very moment he picks up the phone, what it does to him to hear the words, “I’m sorry man” and “I don’t wanna be the next Alonso” and “I can’t do another season of this” and “I need to let it go”. Toto’s world shifts, bends, and slowly glides off its axis. A funny joke, he thinks at first, before the realisation hits.

Toto has experienced many a crisis in his life. Some of them more serious, more real than others, but each one of them prepared him for the next, for what’s to come. His body catches up quicker than his brain. It’s the physical signs first, of going into fight or flight. Blood pumping, trouble breathing, sweaty hands, mouth dry. Racing heart. Funny expression. A racing heart. He’s always thought of himself as having a racer’s heart, especially in moments like this. He can calm himself, he can self regulate. He can manipulate himself, breathe through it, pretend he’s behind the wheel, pretend this is a life or death split second kind of decision calling for nothing but calm and steady hands.

He does; breathe through it. If there is one thing he is, steadfast and unswerving, it’s a leader. Responsibility sits tight in his neck as he seeks out his team, first the closest five, then senior personnel. He is not going to make this into a huge thing - it is - but he will have to make his people aware before Lewis lets the rest of the world in on his secret. Word is going to spread fast.

It does; spread fast. Toto was given an hour. He uses it wisely, types out a company wide announcement, and then another email, a more personal one, to the PR department. Tells them to leave things until tomorrow. There is no point in rushing this.

Toto leaves his office at 5 on the dot. Turns off his computer, does not take any documents, does not take any work to look at later, just shoves his travel mug into his bag, grabs his jacket and makes sure to turn the lights off on his way out.

When he gets home, Christian’s Range Rover is parked where it’s always parked, in the left space next to the stone steps leading up to the front door. It stands a little wonky today, the left front tyre kissing the grass. It’s an unusual sight. Christian is very particular about his car, and his lawn.

The dogs yap at his feet when Toto walks through the door, drops his shit on the sideboard with no mind to clean up after himself. He drags his feet through the foyer and into the kitchen. It’s still light out, it’s July, and Christian has opened the patio doors to let the warm summer breeze in.

His face has something critical to it when he locks eyes with Toto, crow’s feet deeper than usual as he watches him approach. Toto can feel the weight of his gaze on him, how he drags it up his body, down, up again, only to settle on his face for good.

“Colleague or husband?” Christian asks.

How do you have time to read at least a book a day? Do you work in publishing or is it like a championship level speedreading thing? (I am the world's slowest reader, like a book a month if that, so I am kind of in awe of your over 400 books so far this year stat. I think I've read somewhere around seven.)

It’s a couple of different things. The first one is that yes, I am a pretty fast reader, especially when it comes to fiction that I don’t have to expend a ton of extra mental energy on. I don’t work in publishing, but my job does involve a lot of reading and a need to be able to read expeditiously but thoroughly. So when I’m reading for fun, a book that’s, say, a 250-350 page rom com might take me 2-3 hours.

The second (although related) is that it’s sort of a law of averages point—during the regular work week I might read 1 book or so per day (which is easy enough to accomplish on days I’m in the office especially because I have a 45-minute commute each way, so that’s most of a book right there) although sometimes more, but on a Saturday where I’m relaxing/not doing anything else, I might go through like 3-5 books in one day. Just as a recent example, I was on vacation last week and on one 6-ish hour flight I got through 3 books and was just starting a 4th when we landed.

The third is just that not all books are created equal by page count. If I read a single book that’s a collection of novellas for example, I wouldn’t count each one as a separate book for purposes of my tally, but if I read a short or novella that I bought or checked out of the library as a stand-alone, I do count those separately. And while works in the 50-150 page range are probably only about 10% or so of my total, they’re not insignificant either.

And finally…I have ADHD and it’s not uncommon for me to find a new (to me) author and hyperfixate until I’ve run through a good amount of their backlist, sometimes even at the cost of, you know, appropriate amounts of sleep, especially if I’m in a period of high stress and burnout in other parts of my life. I’ve definitely done that a decent number of times this year, with, for example, Grace Callaway (15+ in a span of about a week or so), Kristin Callihan’s Darkest London series (7 books ~3 days), Bec McMaster’s London Steampunk + follow-up spinoff series (11 books in about a week), Sierra Simone (Thornchapel (4 books) followed by New Camelot (5) also over ~3-4 days). New York Day One

I was set to fly in to New York for business on the 11th and stay for a week.  Well, anyone watching the weather knows, my trip was extended due to the snow.

You can barely sleep that night, but you know you need to in order to refresh your brain for the morning. Stark had said twenty-two hours. That gives you till five p.m.

The morning takes too long to come, so you’re up before the sun, mulling over your options while you eat breakfast. Flight also crosses your mind. It’s practical in some ways. You consider the advantage to dodging, and then an even better thought comes to mind: heightened reflexes.

Having powers that aren’t apparent at first would be good for hiding in plain sight or keeping a secret identity. On top of that, a danger sense of some kind would make it easier to make split-second decisions.

It’s barely six a.m. when you realize you’ve decided on your second power. To make sure you’re certain, you let yourself think about it for a bit longer while you finish getting ready for the day. And besides, you don’t know what time it’s okay to call.

It’s five to seven when you can’t stand it anymore and call the number for Avengers Tower.

“Morning,” greets Stark. He sounds like he’s been up for a while. Maybe he hasn’t even been to bed at all.

“I’ve decided,” you say.

“Perfect. How soon can you be here?”

You look at the clock. “I don’t have work today, so… twenty minutes?”

“Alright. I’ll let Banner know to expect you at the lab.” He hangs up without a goodbye.

You frown a little but don’t take it personally. In the brief time you’ve known him, he appears to be a bit brusque with everyone.

As promised, you arrive at the tower within twenty minutes. You pass by very few people on your way up, including Natasha. When you make it to the lab, Bruce is the only one there.

He greets you from the far end of the room and then asks, “What other ability have you decided on?”

“You know how Spiderman just kind of… knows when something bad is about to happen?” you say, unable to hold back a grin. “Something like that. An extra sense for danger.”

He furrows his brow and nods. “I think I understand. Unfortunately, it’ll take some time to program the device given your specifications. Probably at least a couple of hours, give or take.” He looks you up and down. “If you want to spend some time in the gym, or up in Clint’s archery range, that might be a good way to let off some energy.”

“Oh,” you say, somewhat disappointed. He’s not wrong, though. You’re feeling pretty amped up. “That sounds like a good idea.”

You haven’t been to the archery range yet, and you doubt Clint is here this early to show you around, so you head back down to the gym and find a treadmill. You figure if a brisk jog doesn’t help, there’s always a punching bag you can beat up.

Steve shows up about thirty minutes in while you’re taking a break and just lying on one of the mats. He reaches out a hand, and despite your desire to stay on the floor, you grab it and let him pull you up. “Are you okay?” he asks.

You smile. “Yeah, just nervous. And excited.” You pause at a thought. “How did it go when you got your . . . ?” you gesture to all of him.

He chuckles. “It hurt like hell, and I wanted to sleep for a week straight.”

Your face pales. “Oh, is that all?” you ask weakly.

He claps a hand on your shoulder, laughing. “You’ll be fine. It’s a different process, and it shouldn’t make any drastic physical changes if you didn’t ask for them.”

Relief washes over you. “Thank God.”

You spend some time watching him, fascinated, as he lifts weights labeled in the triple digits. “What are those things made of?” you ask after a minute.

He finishes a set and sets them down before answering that it’s adamantium.

You gape at him for a minute before you find your voice again. “I know Tony has money to burn, but that is a lot of money to burn.”

Steve nods. “I know. I told him it wasn’t worth it, but he had them made anyway.” He shrugs sheepishly. “Now I use them all the time because I feel guilty that they cost so much.”

You go back to your own workout, now and then glancing over to see what he’s doing. You tell yourself it’s curiosity. You’re lying; it’s his muscles. Fortunately for you, he doesn’t seem to notice, but you have to stop when Nat comes in because she absolutely would.

During another break, lying on one of the mats, you doze off a bit and only wake up when Natasha says your name.

“Are you ready?” she asks, squatting by your side.

Anxiety twists in your chest. “I think so. Is it already time?”

She nods and stands, offering you a hand to help you up. “Bruce is waiting for you.”

Working off nervous energy has made you sweaty and sticky, so you’re hesitant to go directly back, but you’re also too anxious and excited to stop and shower before you go. You take the elevator, nervously rocking on your feet until the doors slide open.

Banner greets you again and ushers you deeper into the lab to a large machine that kind of reminds you of an airport metal detector, except that it’s fully encased in glass. He presses a button on the control panel and the front of the glass opens up.

“I’m ready when you are.” He gestures toward the open door.

You take a breath and step inside, and he closes the glass door behind you.

“Stand in the white circle,” he says, voice muffled.

You look down and center yourself.

“Ready?”

You take another deep breath and flash a grin. “Hit me.”

He hits a few keys and the machine whirrs to life. The very air around you begins to vibrate, and the sensation reverberates through your bones. It’s not pleasant, but it isn’t painful either; it’s just really weird.

You open your mouth a little, but forget what you’re about to say when you feel your teeth rattling against each other. It’s unsettling enough that you opt for closing your jaw tightly to prevent it from happening again. You realize after what feels like a solid five minutes that you never asked how long the process was going to take. But you’re not willing to open your mouth again to ask, so you just shut your eyes and wait for it to stop.

Another strange sensation takes you: a warmth that blooms from beneath your sternum, and slowly spreads to your extremities. Again, it’s not awful, just strange. Once you feel it in the top of your scalp and the ends of your fingers and toes, it grows uncomfortably warm before fading almost instantly, along with the deep vibration.

Your ears start to ring, and your body feels as though it’s still buzzing, even though you know it’s stopped. It takes a moment to relax your jaw, which is stiff and painful now, and your voice creaks when you speak. “I forgot to ask how long that would take,” you croak.

The door opens, and you step out on shaky legs.

“That was twenty-five minutes,” Bruce replies, “but it’ll take a couple days for the powers to kick in and your body to recover. You’re going to be pretty lethargic and weak, but functional till then.”

You laugh a little. “I didn’t think about that either. It’s a good thing I don’t have to walk home.”

“We’ll have someone drive you.” He helps prop you up and leads you to a nearby chair. “Your legs should be back to normal, more or less, in maybe thirty minutes. You can sit in here until then.”

You nod, sitting back. “I think I’ll take a little nap, if you don’t mind.”

He smiles. “That’s fine. I’ll wake you when you’re good to go.”

Your eyes are already shut. “Mm-hm. Thanks.”

Hi, allow me my 5 cents according to the last questions/submits about airport pics.

It fascinates me how many assumptions people can make from a few pics (not only here but, generally on fan pages and IG comments) all because it's more their wish or fantasy than any tangible evidence says.

What can we see from these recent images?

Emma and her friend Nupur arrived in a car at the airport. Emma checked her luggage and helped to load/unload it herself. She met other people at the airport (one older man, one younger man and a grey-haired lady standing behind him). Emma smiles at the older man and communicates with them. Emma boards the plane with Nupur. These are the only facts based on the pictures we have so far, and everything else is (so far) a baseless fantasy.

The bearded man is not Brandon Green by any means. Brandon is much shorter (similar in height to Emm; check pics from Venice 2022), and this one is at least 180cm tall. Facial features - a completely different man (look at the HD pics on PicturePub). If it's enough for someone that when a man has a beard and long hair, it must be B.G., okay. Oh wait, it can be Leo as well, right? This is reasoning, like when a white person says all Asians look alike.

(We can go further with assumptions: Emma obviously has a type - a bearded man with a man bun. It must've been her other boyfriend while she was in LA for a month, and now she is leaving him for another bearded man with a bun waiting for her in Mexico. ;-) Sarcasm used)

I'm more inclined to the fact it was just a random unexpected meeting with someone familiar (Emm firstly mainly smiles at the older man when she spots him), or maybe they were getting to know other passengers of the plane. I'm unfamiliar with renting private jets, but perhaps you could share the flight with someone else if you are flying in the same direction.

And an observation about the plane - when Emma's boarding, you can clearly see the Mexican flag and the "FlyMex" label on the plane (next to doors), which after a while of googling, shows that it is an air charter company based in Mexico. So, it wasn't Brendon Green's private plane, and Emma is probably heading to Mexico again with her friend Nupur. Btw. small jet like this won't make a flight from LA to Europe without some stopovers, and it's indeed pricey - an average of 10k USD per hour of flight for long-range privFlyingts. Flight from LA to Paris with a small private jet like this will last 13 hours at least.
