So I think in S2 (yes because they need to give us S2) KimChay will be there more because:

Kim's character was in the detective mood the whole time and still, we got nothing about his results. He surely knows the things or at least most of it behind his father's actions.

Barcode finally will be 18, so it gives more space for the directors to work with his character. And yes, we need at least one KimChay kiss so...

Kim was the hottest maffia boi, a protector, a fighter a real killer (just think about it, how many times did u see bodyguards with him?), - and he DESERVES more screentime doin' his business.

Part 2 of sorting Kinnporsche characters in hogwarts houses

Note; Im not in any way a sorting hat so you may disagree, i’m just doing this for fun after all, also i’m not here to offend anyone. If y’all wanna share your own thoughts feel free too, but keep it respectful please

Starting this part with Vegas: Slytherin. No i am not sorting him there because it’s the ‘evil’ and ‘coolest’ house. It actually does fit him. He’s cunning, shrewd and despite being forced to do this he is achievement-oriented. He focus on one main-goal, defeating Kinn, does he care what happens to others? Not really, if it’s not harming those he cares about he’s willing to do nearly anything to achieve his goal. You see that with the way he treats Macau and how in the novel, so i’ve heard at least i haven’t read the novel, he says to all his men that they’d be dead if they put even one scratch on Pete. One thing slytherin is also known for is their deep and fierce loving, which Vegas has shown he is capable of. The love he has for Pete is a raw and real and fierce. Like with Kim, Vegas also has self-preservation, he weighs all his option before acting and aiming for the best possible outcome, not reckless at all like the Gryffindor tend to be, he thinks everything through till he has a nearly perfected plan.

Macau: OKAY honestly i just wanted to include him and i dont really have a clue for him but I think maybe Gryffindor? He has been basically raised the same as Vegas but with a fairly less amount of the pressure Vegas has, not being the heir and all. Therefore he got more freedom to be himself. Macau seem brave and daring. Also sort of reckless? i dont know. Some say Gryffindors are short-tempered which fits Macau. Im just bullshitting stuff at this point IM SORRY.

Pete: ive said Kinn and Tankhun were hard to sort ,but Pete? Pete definitely takesthe crown with how hard he was to sort into a hogwarts house. At first sight you’d say he’s either a Gryffindor or Hufflepuff, judging from his kindness and silly nature he’s been introduced with but if you look further and deeper you’d say he’s more of a Ravenclaw or Slytherin. Throughout typing this i still haven’t really made my mind up because he really has a duality but i think im going with Slytherin. Why? He’s cunning, clever, determined and most of all a good and strong leader. He has proven to be quite a good head-bodyguard and an understanding person, being able to understand people is a very good quality for a strong leader, it makes you connect with people and they will like you for it and Pete knows that and probably uses that. Pete doesn’t appear to have that high self-preservation slytherin has and appears to be more reckless. But i don’t think he’s reckless, he calculates possible outcomes of a situation, that is shown from that one moment Pete is with Kinn asking him to send him into the minor families house. Pete knows the consequences but he just doesn’t care about these said consequences, he doesn’t care about his own wellbeing because he’s loyal to the main family above everything else. This on its own could be said to be a Gryffindor quality and thus would make Pete a Gryffindor but i still think he’s slightly better fit for Slytherin, though i think Gryffindor would definitely be his second house if not his first.

Gun: slytherin. Quite obvious this one i think. He’s willing to sacrifice and do EVERYTHING to get out above Korn. He’s determind, cunning, strong-leader and everything a slytherin is

Korn: also a slytherin. Very cunning and shrewd. Good plan making and predicting the possible outcomes of said plan. No further explanaton needed i think

Chan: Probably a Gryffindor. Immensely loyal to the main-family, strong leader, which funnily enough is also a gryffindor trait even though it’s also a trait slytherin’s are known to have, and brave. Doing things head-on without any hesitation. Chan is not reckless though, he’s quite calculated with the moves he makes

Big: also a gryffindor. Also immensely loyal to the main-family, especially to Kinn, so loyal even that he would give his life for Porsche who is important for Kinn. He’s got nerve. He is brave and maybe a bit short-tempered. Yet again Big isn’t as reckless as most Gryffindors which could be debated because he went head-on together with Kim inside that Storage room to save Porsche and Porchay, which then again was also kind of planned, back-up was underway and they knew Vegas intentions right? Anyway he’s a gryffindor.

Tay: hufflepuff? like im not sure because i dont want to put him in this house because he looks like a hufflepuff, but i think he is one. (He could also sort of be a slytherin, i think that’d be his second house). He’s kind, loyal and trustworthy. He cares about others more than himself, example with Time. He loves Time so much and he wants the best for him, but even when Time seems so uninterested about Tay he still stays by his side even though it’s hurting him a lot.

Time: Slytherin probably, im not sure about this one but i think he is. I dont really have anything to elaborate on this. Just that

General Thoughts:

After a long while, I started watching a show early enough that I had to wait over 2 days for episode 14 to be released.

Extremely weak plot. Extremely weak character development for Kinn and Porsche. How did they manage to make me not at all care about, and sometimes even dislike, KP when I was literally so ready to love them? Many side characters are under developed and thus don't hold any emotional weight (ex. Ken and Big). Also, Kim's love life is a dead-end and also his investigation didn't turn up anything, so there was no progress for him lol. Korn's evil, the audience can tell but the characters cannot for some reason. Also, the weak writing meant the pacing was off and we spent a lot of time meandering or watching stuff I hardly cared about. Not to mention the plethora of plot holes or the many story threads they just dropped/forgot about. If there's a season 2, please get better writers my gosh.

Vegas and Pete were freaking great. Unexpectedly great considering how weak other aspects of writing were. I would've liked more of their storyline and a little more work before that fluffy ending but I'm just amazed they gave me nearly everything I wanted. Not to mention food as a love language! Great acting from the cast, very impressive considering it's the first acting job for several actors. Would be curious to see them in more. It looked sleek and like there was money put into the show, which there was. I think the rating is more like a 6.5 on the enjoyment scale but I'll give it a 7 because I'm reading so much fic, especially VegasPete, meaning the characters resonated with me enough to do so.

General Thoughts: I don't know how they could've made the show less boring but it really was so boring, especially the first half with ghosthunting and side couple drama. I was wondering if I did it a disservice by speeding it up when watching but some episodes were just too boring to be watched at 1x speed. However, I still enjoyed all the friendships and familial relationships! I am truly a lover of such relationships and they showed complex friendships and wholesome families. Also, interesting gender stuff even though they didn't explain anything much.

General Thoughts: It’s fine, wasn’t bad but also didn’t change my life and impact me as much as it could have. I think the fact that it was neither a longer series nor did it have the uninterrupted flow of a movie lessened its impact. The main characters were interesting enough, though I wish we got to see more of their 2017 current versions. I liked the side story fine. It was good enough, fairly typical LGBT youth exploration halted by society then finding each other again type of ordeal. I know Your Name Engraved Herein was released after this one but they're both similar in that sense.

General Thoughts: There's nothing much to say about this story. I didn't care about the main characters or their story, so I almost all of it at 2x and after like ep 6 skipped everything where it was just the 2 main leads. The family and job dynamics/scenes were kinda interesting though.I liked the side couple better with the high-strung divorced father with a routine life being pursued by the handsome, younger bartender who takes everything casually. They were cute and grew with each other and I liked them with the daughter Ling Ling.

General Thoughts: I got the gender shenanigans (the fact that Win was a guy in Lin’s body and we got to see Win and so did his friends ahh so good), I got to see Jan, I got some Thai food, so in those aspects it's good. In terms of writing, characterization and character progression, this show leaves things to be desired. The only character in the show who changes at all in Win and he just... kinda changed and stopped being a dick but I would've liked more introspection and apology and actual progression for him in the last 2 episodes rather than pointless drama, much of which came out of the left field.

General Thoughts More like Live Blogging: lol the Arthit actively avoiding intimacy, including kisses, continues (as does my wish to have them explore it either in an internalized homophobia or ace way). Although it makes things like the hug seem more significant. Damn, Arthit really wants a preemptive breakup - he really is not one to fight for the relationship lol even in the previous installments. Seeing Kongpob cry noo T.T bro this compilation of their relationship moments as Kongpob waits for Arthit? Bro this airport interaction is killing meeee they’re sooo boyfriends. Rings?! So Arthit’s just dropping Kongpob off and coming back to Thailand after a few days right? Seems so. Okay I don’t know what to give it out of 5.5 or 6. Let’s just give it a 6 for the end of all SOTUS things and out of the original projects of the 3 GMMTV pairs, SOTUS is the one I liked most. I wonder if I would’ve liked the episode more/same/less if I watched it immediately after watching season 2.

Random BL show that has been in my mind for the second half of July even though I’m not watching it:

Bro the random ass hold Love Mechanics has started having on me? I had 0 interest in the story when I got into BLs and learned about En of Love: Love Mechanics and that it’s getting a reboot because I don’t really fuck with cheating storylines. Then once it started being released, everybody started talking about how good the acting and story is, so I became a little curious. However, since mid-July (July 16?), I’ve been seeing clips of them on tiktok and truly obsessing because how does it make me so giddy? This is what people mean by sizzling chemistry I guess? From these short clips, they both portray giddiness of liking someone in a way most other actors don’t, so I’m really enjoying seeing them and can’t wait to watch. I think the fact that both of them seem to flirt and be really into it helps because more often than not, it’s one character pursuing the other, while the other might even be resistant; so the clear reciprocity in the giddiness heightens it for sure. Also, most of these clips have been cute and fun, with a sprinkling of a few painful clips. I think the actual show will make me more mad because of all the bad decisions but for now, I’m enjoying the giddiness and need to watch the show ASAP

Also like I’m not even watching the show yet so why is the “Yeah! You’re always easy for me!” in ep 6? by Vee and the “Oh you still love me?” *nod nod* “Then can you do me a last favour? Please get out of my life.” by Mark in ep 7 have me in agony alksjl;sakdfj

Summary and Upcoming Plans

I watched like 5 shows and an episode this month, which is the least BL I’ve watched in a month since I’ve begun lol. I think I’m entering the ‘slowing down’ phase of my fandom frenzy, so in the future I’ll try to be even more picky with shows I pick up OR start dropping shows. It took me forever to finish shows I wasn’t engaged in this month whereas I could still force myself to just finish them before on like 1.5x speed.

I think I’m gonna start with Cause You’re My Boy and Love Mechanics next month, then go to Indian movies (Badhai Do, Jab We Met), then Thai shows again (probably some of the 2022 ones and some older ones). If the month isn’t over by then somehow, I’ll start Korean shows (BLs, GL shorts, but also maybe a het show)

The Paintings

So i think by now we’ve all noticed the Portraits of themselves that Kim and Tankhun have in their rooms (and im honestly holding out hope for a KInn portrait as well), but i havent seen as much analysis for them so far (and i’m very sorry, i’m supposed to do colour theory for ep4 right now instead).

As a small disclaimer i need to clarifiy that i tried my best to adjust the paintings for perspective, light situation etc. but the process can of course also falsifiy the result. Further i want to reiterate that my analysis is very subjective, and i have no formal education in art history/analysis, so take everything with a grain of salt.

Tankhun:

So let’s start with Tankhun’s painting.

His is quite clearly recognizable as being Pop Art, more specifically Pointillism.

Pointillism as a technique isn’t that young by itself, it describes the use of several smaller colour dots to build up a bigger whole, similar to the modern printing process which also uses incredibly small dots, usually only in 4 colours, to create the books/pictures/flyers you use daily. However Tankhun’s painting here is not only made up of several, relatively big, coloured circles, but it is also split up into only 4-5 colours. It’s a bit hard to make out, even after colour correction in post processing, if the painting is made up of Black/Red/Yellow (+White) or if it is Black/Blue/Red/Yellow (+White). The latter would harken back to current printing presses which work with Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black (in short: CMYK), however I actually suspect it is only made with the 3 colours Black/Red/Yellow which would be a hint to a custom, maybe even hand painted/printed piece.

Of course what is interesting about the reduced colour palette in any way is, that these colours should be enough to build up a sufficient spectrum through mixing. Instead we have very clear divisions, think Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol. It creates a similar impression to putting someone in a very overexposed spotlight, harsh contrast and, depending on how much colours are used, can give varying impressions of depth. More colours creates the feeling of looking at a clear cut and straight forward person, less can lead to deeper depths and a feeling of hidden sides. The specififc colours used for him also create a very vibrant and active look, which i think portrays Tankhun’s over active and slightly chaotic personality very well.

Here he strikes a balance, but I certainly think the painting creates the impression of a deceptively simple person, especially if you take the build up through dots into consideration. Stay too close to the picture and you will only be able to see the small points making up the whole, not the portrait itself however. For that you need distance.

Tankhun is more complicated than he looks at first glance. Are his eccentricities just that, unique but mostly harmless quirks? Or do these quirks serve to hide a bigger personality, something we are too close to see in its entirety?

Additionally I want to take the placement in his room into consideration. The painting is hung up on a small wall right next to the entrance, mostly out of the way and not visible upon entry. It is also placed right next to the cupboard behind Tankhun’s couch, which is stock full of more eye-catching trinkets. It feels incongruous how little relevance the painting has in his rooms. At the same time I think this only further supports my reading of it being representative of Tankhun’s character. He stays mostly hidden away in his tower, and even his over the top dramatics are likely a way to obfuscate his true thoughts and feelings. You only really see him on second glance.

(EDIT: I forgot to mention: his positioning in the bounds of the portrait is interesting as well. He is turned away from the viewer, and in fact the perspective suggests us looking down at him from a slight height difference. Yet he may show us his back but he is still looking at the viewer with one eye, there is no trust here despite the implication of 'showing someone your back'. I personally also read his gaze as hostile, but i wouldn't be opposed to reading it as vulnerability instead. Tankhun is, after all, a character that seems to contain multitudes. His apparent weakness (ie. Eccentric behaviour and vulnerabilities/childlike mannerisms) seem to not undermine his authority in the eyes of his family, as seen by Vegas not even trying to verbally defend himself when Tankhun berates him and makes him leave the restaurant during ep4.)

Kim:

Now in contrast, Kim is much harder to nail down.

The only say I can say with relative certainty is that we are looking at an Impressionist portrait, but the specifics I’m less certain about. I feel like his portrait is not quite in line with classic impressionistic pieces, a bit more modern and abstracted. A good style influence could be Olga Boznańska.

Impressionism as a style, as the name implies, focuses on catching and conveying subjective impressions through paintings. They are often loose and the colours carry more significance than in more realistic portrayals. Significant about Kim's portrait is therefore that the colours are washed out, a gold orange is the most dominant colour, though we have some soft blue on the outer edges as well.

Also interesting to note is the way his face is framed. Kim is slightly turned away from the observer, and his face isn’t centered on the canvas. We almost get the impression of a candid photo taken in secret, or in an unobserved moment. However the clearly visible brush strokes (which are really very very big, considering the general size of the piece) disabuse us of that notion.

It’s a very unconventional way to structure a commissioned portrait, even though it fits well into the impressionistic style.

But despite creating this effect of intimacy the washed out colours and the formidable size of the picture bring back some distance. We haven’t yet seen much of Kim, so I can’t say too much about his character. However the portrait itself seems to suggest a division between how he is perceived in his role as WIK and how he sees himself.

WIK is bigger than life, he is to be admired, looked up to, and yet also perceived as authentic, as close to his fans. Likely there is a hint of a para-social relationship between him and his fans, as with so many modern artists or public personalities. Yet he is washed out, a mirage, a glimpse at his reflection more than a look at who Kim really is. The painting wants us to believe there is certainly mystery surrounding Kim, yet not much depth, it’s relatively flat. At the same time his edges are hard to grasp. His form fades at the edges and it’s hard to pin him down.

I’m wondering is this is also how Kim sees himself, he certainly seems to be a bit more removed from the main family than his brothers, a bit of a shade, ready to fade out of the (mafia) spot light.

Also significant, more so for Kim than for Tankhun, is the placement of his painting. It has a very visible place of honour, above a decorative cabinet. More importantly we as the viewer know it is hiding his conspiracy board.

Either he sees himself as eschewing his ‘true self’ in order to better investigate, his public persona just a face to put on to hide his secrets; or he thinks of himself as protecting his family and his secrets instead. He is literally in between his family’s secrets and the world, a smokescreen in front of his true motives. I suspect we will see that Kim, as most other big Players, is more complicated than we initially assume.

I may expand on these at a later date, but no promises. I’m pretty busy as of late, and I wanna wait and see if Kinn has a portrait hidden away somewhere as well. Also big thanks to Senpai @iffervescent for making me think about Kim’s portrait placement!
