Summary: (An "everyone but her" oneshot from this request) Someone from your past comes by Nevermore for an unexpected visit. When Enid can't calm you down, it's up to Wednesday. And Wednesday is furious.

Larissa didn’t know. She couldn’t have known and that was what was killing her.

All she had wanted to do was talk with you in her office. You weren’t in trouble, you had been doing well in classes, she just wanted to talk. It had been a few weeks after your date with Miss Addams and she wanted to know how it had gone. While she assumed it had gone well based on how much happier you seemed, she wanted to hear it from you. She wanted to experience for herself how you were finally healing and living a normal life.

If she had known, she wouldn’t have pulled you into her office. She wouldn’t have unintentionally trapped you as Kristi had walked into the office as if she owned the place. There would have been no chance that she would have frozen for just a fraction too long, giving Kristi the opportunity to speak to you and instill that same fear and anger she so enjoyed striking within you.

“You look rather normal today,” Kristi told you in that posh accent that haunted you so. The moment she opened her mouth, your entire body went rigid and you stopped breathing. “Unlike Nicholas, I’m afraid.”

“Y/N, darling,” Larissa said as she stood tall directly in between you and Kristi, “why don’t you go find Miss Sinclair?” She turned her head just enough to give you a smile that she hoped would calm you for the moment; it didn’t work. “We will catch up another day.”

Not once did you meet her eye, still keeping your eyes glued to Kristi; in fear, in anger, Larissa couldn’t tell. She gave you a quiet “go on” that finally drew you out of your thoughts. You locked eyes with her for only a moment and she could see the glassiness before you dragged yourself out of the office.

You gave Kristi a wide berth when you passed her, flinching and stumbling over your feet when she stared you down as you left. The fake smile fell from Kristi’s face once you were gone and she turned to look at Larissa.

She needed to watch herself before Larissa followed in Morticia’s footsteps.

There was something so nice and carefree about being in the gym with the rest of the furs. No, Enid refused to get in there with them because it was dirty and they were far too rowdy, but it was nice. It reminded her of the good parts of home, however rare those were. Just watching in mild annoyance and utter devotion as the boys rolled around on the wrestling mats without a care in the world.

She was sitting on the side of the gym with a few furs when you walked in. You frequented the gym as well, usually joining in if the furs were going, so your presence was almost expected. But when Enid raised her hand in greeting and smiled at you, you didn’t even bother looking up. With fists clenched at your sides, you practically stalked over to the speed bag and got to work.

Enid knew something was wrong the moment you groaned in frustration and started rewrapping your hands for the third time; it only took you a minute at most. Your stance was sloppy and your movements were rigid, and she knew. She could see in the way you couldn’t catch the rhythm and would have to restart time and time again. With another frustrated noise, you hit the speed bag as hard as possible before walking over to the thai bags.

She flinched when you landed that first punch. In horror, she watches as you go on a rampage, throwing punch after punch with as much power as you could physically muster. The muscles in your arms strained and your wings begged to be let out as you continued. But when Enid noticed the dark spot growing on your wraps, she knew this wasn’t your usual training session.

“I’ll be right back,” Enid told her companions as she hopped up and did her best to walk casually over to you. “Rough day?”

You didn’t even acknowledge that she was nearby, let alone that she had said something to you. But being this close, she could finally see the dark red blood spots that were still growing under your wraps as you continued. Every few hits, Enid would hear a wet crunch and a wet spot would be left on the bag, but you kept going.

“You need to take a break,” Enid said as she did her best to tear her eyes away from your hands. “We can clean it and wrap you up a little better.”

Still not a word, not even a sound aside from the occasional grunt.

Enid stood back and watched you. It wasn’t like this had been the first time you had done this; the most notable had been after the accident and you broke three fingers and fractured your wrist. Sometimes it was better to let you blow off some steam and patch you up after, but when she saw the single tear roll down your cheek, she knew she had to do something.

With one final look at you, Enid turned around and started making her way through the halls. There was only one person that had even a chance of trying to get you to stop, or at least to let up, but she didn’t know where to look first. It wasn’t writing time, classes were over for the day, there shouldn’t be a Hummer’s meeting. The dorm or the library would probably be the best bet.

When Enid stepped out into the quad, her claws extended and her blood boiled at the sight of Weems escorting Kristi off the grounds. As far as she knew, Kristi and Marcus were practically banned from Nevermore - rightfully so, of course. She felt such a strong desire to just rip the woman apart limb by limb, but the image of your bloody knuckles and teary eyes stopped her.

She had to find Wednesday. With one little growl in Kristi’s direction, she took off back to Ophelia Hall. There was no guarantee Wednesday was there, but it was worth a try. If nothing else, it was the most realistic option; she knew Wednesday had already finished studying for the rest of the week so there was no need to be in the library.

And when Enid threw the door open to their shared room, she was found to be correct. Wednesday sat at her desk with a book spread out before her; was she vandalising Frankenstein? Whatever, Enid let out a rushed sigh before practically running over to her roommate.

“You could try to be a little quieter next time,” Wednesday said without looking up.

“It’s Y/N.” The speed in which Wednesday’s head shot up would’ve been adorable in any other situation. “She needs you.”

Enid had never known Wednesday could move that fast for someone else. She would have to keep that in mind as a teasing topic for later.

“Nicky, look out!”

The deafening sound of bending metal drowned out any other noise in the gym. You lashed out with a roundhouse, ignoring the sharp sting as you hit another bruise. An ache had become far too common in your shoulders as you continued your onslaught. Your eyes fell to the splotches on the bag before another pain stabbed through the back of your head.

“I said to keep those abominations hidden.”

“I told you, I can’t!”

“No child of mine is going out like some sort of demon.”

Your punches were getting harder. One solid punch to the side of the bag made your finger crack; if it was broken, you couldn’t tell. You didn’t even care. Why would you care when they didn’t? She wouldn’t care, she had said multiple times that pain is necessary, pain is required.

“No one will want you now.”

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck!

Something slick and warm coated your palms when you pushed your hair back from your forehead; it felt like sweat, but a little thicker. It hurt to breathe, every inhale was a struggle, but you got back into your stance and started again. Hook, hook, upper, jab, cross, roundhouse. Combo after combo, going until every inch of your body hurt.

You just wanted it all to hurt.

“Y/N.”

No.

Every muscle in your body locked up at the sound of her voice. What’s she doing? You swallowed thickly as you stared, unfocused, at the bag in front of you. Make her leave. But you couldn’t, because you couldn’t even get yourself to breathe. No, you just stood there like an idiot.

The moment you felt her small, cold hand on your shoulder, it was like she had released you from some spell. You let out a shaky exhale as your body unfroze and your knees buckled underneath you. All adrenaline faded from your veins, and you finally turned your head to see Wednesday standing there with the most concerned look on her face.

You had never seen her like that.

Please don’t.

You terrified Wednesday, and she wasn’t easily scared. It was the red splattered bag, the stickiness of your fingers as blood dripped to the floor, the red you had smeared across your forehead and in your hair. Something in the droop of your shoulders and how obviously, painfully tense your muscles were.

It was in that faraway, unfocused look in your eyes.

“Let’s go,” she said, far softer than she would ever be with anyone else. Wednesday knew the furs were watching, but right now it wasn’t important.

Your eyes trailed to the side as you nodded once, so slight she almost didn’t even notice. The majority of her brain screamed at her as she reached out and gently took your hand. They’ll see your weakness, it said, you’re vulnerable. Yes, holding your hand in public made her vulnerable. But now, in this moment, she would look past it.

As gently as she possibly could, she pulled you along behind her. She could hear your feet drag across the floor, and you didn’t hold her hand back, but you were following. The blood on your hands was warm and sticky, and for the first time, Wednesday didn’t think she liked it. It was a terrible feeling, sticking not only to her skin but to her very soul.

She hesitated only once as she tried to decide where to take you. There was a lot she didn’t know about the situation, only that someone from your past had shown up unexpectedly. So should she take you to your dorm? It had things from your past, but it was also filled with things you loved and enjoyed.

Or, should she dare to take you to her dorm, where there was nothing that could remind you of whoever that person was. It was new, but you were still familiar with it. Surely that would be the better option, would it not? Wednesday decided it would be and led you to Ophelia Hall.

You still hadn’t said a word, hadn’t even looked up from the ground as Wednesday sat you down on her bed and grabbed the first aid kit. She dug around for the supplies and used that time to study you. There were stains on the legs of your pants, hopefully not wounds. It was hard to tell before taking your wraps off, but at least two fingers were crooked and the amount of blood was telling.

“I’ll be gentle,” Wednesday said. She wanted you to look at her and at least acknowledge her.

You didn’t.

With a single sigh, she reached out and took your right hand first, unwrapping your hand like some kind of horrific present. Each moment uncovered more damage, more absolute carnage. You inhaled sharply as the wraps peeled off the open skin of your knuckles with a sickeningly wet sound. As much as it pained her, Wednesday repeated the action with your other hand until they were bare.

They were no longer dripping blood, now simply caked in the gelatinous, half-dried ooze. She could see the damage, the two now-clearly broken fingers, and she would have sworn she could practically see the bone of a knuckle. Your right wrist was swollen and you just sat there without flinching as if you couldn’t even feel it.

Maybe, in your catatonic state, you couldn’t.

“It’s going to sting,” Wednesday said. Still no reaction.

It was a tedious process, cleaning you up. She wasn’t even looking at the rest of you, simply focusing on your hands. Even when the antiseptic and rough gauze touched the open flesh, you didn’t react. Not even a blink of your eyes. The only thing that proved you were even still alive was the occasional tear that fell down your cheeks.

Wednesday put your broken fingers into splints and finished tying off the gauze around your hands before holding them in her lap. Your face was still marred by dried blood, but she didn’t care. On another day, another time, she would have found it attractive. But this? No, this broke her heart.

She wanted to ask you about it. If you would willingly do this to yourself after simply seeing this person, surely it must be terrible. As much as Wednesday loved the macabre, this was different. This was you hurting, this was your way of screaming out without saying a word. She so desperately wanted to know what you were thinking, what was pulling you apart atom by atom.

But she didn’t. She didn’t say a word as she grasped your forearms and pulled you down onto the bed with her until you were laying your head on her chest. You were so much bigger, she was sure it looked rather comical. But finally, finally she got something out of you as you grabbed her shirt so tightly she could hear the gauze pulled taut.

“You can rest,” Wednesday said, wrapping her own arm around your back and running her fingers up and down the little bit of wing that wasn’t contained.

And just like that, you fell apart. You hid your face in her neck and cried. Loud, painful sounding sobs as you pulled her closer. Crying until your body was shaking and you were no longer making sounds, just holding Wednesday and being held in return.

As Wednesday’s own eyes started glassing over at the sounds, she swore right then and there she would find whoever had done this to you.

And she was going to kill them.

I’m so curious about the culture around queerness at Barça and in European women’s soccer in general. It seems like only a few players are loudly out (Mapi’s coming out being a whole thing like 5 years ago), but that a ton of other players have come out in more discreet (and maybe plausibly deniable) ways.

I’d imagine many don’t speak about it publicly bc they don’t want to attract even more hate or “distract”from the cause of women’s football. But to me it feels like the elephant in the room on some level, bc I’m sure at least some of the cultural pushback they face is because so many of them are gay, but no one really talks about it out loud. (That i've seen.)

In my understanding Spain is legally quite supportive of lgbt rights but that culturally, the catholic influence and machismo remnants remain strong. And football culture in general seems super homophobic—like the comments on the fcbarcelona post a couple months ago for a lgbtq+ day of support were vile.

I am so curious about the super-specific subset of player relationships that develop in that weird combination of repression(?) and normalization. It seems like riding the line of discreetness and being obviously super queer could cause tension between players or partners, but they all seem to handle it at least well enough to keep playing together. Like, how do they do that? Are there like, rules of conduct? Do they all just agree to not talk about their partners and how those relationships impact the team? do exes just have to get over it really fast and in silence? like.. I know it’s so classically lesbian to be friends w your ex but also sounds hard to not acknowledge breakups/heartache being part of how a team functions. (Especially when everyone thinks you’re moving on with another teammate @ Lucy & Ona 👀)

Idk, maybe I’m just a water sign lol and maybe these conversations are happening behind the scenes. But it makes me wonder if Barça has like, hired relationship counselors bc this seems like a lot to handle alone.

oh wow, thank you and thank you for your long message. you raise so many interesting points to unpack.

queerness at barça/european football - honestly, i think your questions/comments are not specific to spain/barça but are questions to be raised across the entire world of futfem/woso. because barça is comprised of staff from all over spain, not just barcelona, and has players from all over the world, who are bringing their own cultures, biases, backgrounds into this environment.

i just don't think there are that many players *anywhere* who are the out and proud types like megan rapinoe or even magda/pernille with their hangOUT show. it's more so people living their lives and not making a big deal of it, kinda like sam kerr/kristie mewis, mapi/ingrid engen, and alba redondo and her gf. and it may also be a generational thing too. where younger players like cata coll just casually and nonchalantly mentions she has a gf when asked to show her phone lock screen or jill roord and jana fernandez post vacation tiktoks with each other and family members.

and at the same time, barça and the spanish national team have a very high percentage of gay players, especially compared to uswnt, canada, etc. so i don't think it's spanish culture that's necessarily dictating things one way or another.

locker room dynamics - again, i don't think this is specific to barça because there are teams with even more intra-squad relationships (cough*arsenal*cough 😂).

at the end of the day, these are professionals and you have to act in a professional manner and set boundaries if players from the same team are dating. and you have to learn to compartmentalize and not let your personal life affect your performance on the pitch. and if it does, then it's important to speak up and take time off or remove yourself from that situation (as we have seen players do from time to time as well). so i highly doubt barça has hired relationship counselors because these players are (mostly) adults and can handles themselves as adults.

if nothing else, barça is made up of some of the most hypercompetitive people ever 😂, and they are not going to let squabbles or exes interfere with the main goal - winning that quadruple!

Look I don’t want to get into this whole wag discussion. Right now I’d rather focus on moving forward and if you follow me for my Kristie content then stay. But I’m not a Sam and Kristie blog. I love both of them separately and together but I don’t live for their relationship. I realize they are two different people and hope that everybody can see that. All that being said I hope Australia wins this whole fucking thing😂

Something I think would be helpful would be to include at the top of your "Fundies and Adjacent I Follow" type posts a summary of what makes them fundie or adjacent. I haven't heard of the majority of them, so I can't tell if it's a friend of the Duggars, someone with a blog that spouts hate in the name of Christianity, a vlogging family, or just a random family that just so happens to have a bunch of kids. Maybe for the lesser known follow up pregnancy or engagement announcements where most fundie followers would go "who is this...?" linking back to the main post? Thanks for all you do!

Alexander Family:

The Alexander Family of California is headed by father Ken Alexander and mother Lori Falk. They have been married since 1980 and share 4 children, 4 children-in-law, and 16 grandchildren as of 11/20/2023.

Lori Alexander runs a blog and Youtube channel called "The Transformed Wife" where she discusses biblical womanhood, marriage, and motherhood.

Anderson Family:

The Anderson Family of Arizona is headed by father Steven Anderson and mother Zsuzsanna Toth. They have been married since 2000 and share 12 children as of 11/20/2023.

Steven is the New IFB movement and pastors the Faithful Word Baptist Church.

Zsuzsanna runs a blog called "Are They All Yours?"

Andregg Family:

The Andregg family of Arkansas is headed by father Dwayne Andregg and mother Melanie McPherson. They have been married since 1999 and share 6 children, 1 son-in-law, and 2 grandchildren as of 11/20/23.

They are connected to the Wikstrom family as their daughter Lauren married the Wikstrom's son Devin.

The Andreggs have also been notable friends with the Duggar family for years and are members of the IBLP. They were featured on the Duggar's TLC shows.

Dwayne is the former campaign manager for Jim Holt.

Baird Family:

The Baird family of Texas is headed by father Michael Baird and mother Heidi Mick. They have been married since 1982 and share 8 living children, 6 children-in-law, and 9 grandchildren as of 11/20/2023.

Balka Family:

Ballinger Family:

The Barrett family is headed by mother Gabby Barrett and father Cade Foehner. They have been married since 2019 and share 3 children as of 11/20/23.

Gabby Barrett is an accomplished country music singer who originally gained fame on American Idol.

The couple was good friends with Jeremy and Jinger Vuolo while living in LA. Jeremy officiated their wedding.

Bates Family:

The Bates Family of Tennessee is headed by father Gil Bates and mother Kelly Jo Callaham. They have been married since 1987 and share 19 children, 11 children-in-law, and 29 grandchildren as of 11/20/2023.

The Bates family rose to prominence via their friendship with the Duggar Family. They have since gone on to have their own shows with TLC and UPTV.

They are long-time members of the IBLP and Gil Bates is on the board.

Many of the children have popular social media presences.

Bontrager Family:

The Bontrager family of Iowa is headed by father Marlin Bontrager and mother Becky. They have been married since 1989 and share 10 children, 7 children-in-law, and 14 grandchildren as of 11/20/2023.

The Bontragers are friends of the Duggars and sons Carson and Joshua are married to Bowers girls.

The unmarried Bontrager children are in a band with their parents.

Bowers Family:

The Bowers Family of Alabama is headed by father Curtis Bowers and mother Lauren McAlvany. They have been married since 1989 and share 9 children, 2 sons-in-law, and 6 grandchildren as of 11/20/2023.

The family is friends of the Duggar Family. Daughters Carolina and Cassidy are married to Bontrager boys.

Bure Family:

The Bure family is headed by father Valeri Bure and mother Candace Cameron. They have been married since 1996 and share 3 children as of 11/20/2023

Candace was a main cast member of Full House and is now an outspoken Christian actress and sister of Kirk Cameron.

Burnett Family:

The Burnett family of Oklahoma is headed by father John Burnett and mother Cheryl Clay. They have been married since 1981 and share 8 children, 8 children-in-law, and 19 grandchildren as of 11/20/2023.

They daughter Abbie married John Duggar in 2018. They were at one point members or running in the circles of the IBLP, but I am unsure of the Burnett family affiliation now.

Caldwell Family:

The Caldwell family of Arkansas is headed by father Paul Caldwell and mother Christina Hamrick. They have been married since 1998 and share 9 children, 1 son-in-law, and 4 grandchildren as of 11/20/2023.

Paul Caldwell is the former pastor of the Duggar family church. Their daughter Kendra married Joseph Duggar in 2017. The family was at one point in the IBLP. I am unsure of their current affiliation.

Cameron Family:

The Cameron Family of California is headed by father Kirk Cameron and mother Chelsea Noble. They have been married since 1991 and share 6 children and 2 children-in-law as of 11/20/2023.

Kirk is a former main cast member of Growing Pains and was an actor in the Christian film FireProof. He was featured on several episodes of 19 Kids and Counting.

Clark Family:

The Clark family of New Jersey is headed by father Charles Clark Jr. and mother Aprile. They share 3 children, 2 children-in-law, 9 granchildren, 6 grandchildren-in-law, and 7 great-grandchildren as of 11/20/2023.

The family runs a church called Solid Rock Baptist Church. They also have a band called Clark Family Band.

Grandson Travis is married to Katie Bates.

Collingsworth Family:

The Collingsworth family of Ohio is headed by father Phillip Collingsworth Sr. and Kimberly Keaton. They have been married since 1986 and share 4 children, 4 children-in-law, and 9 grandchildren as of 11/20/2023.

The family makes up the Collingsworth Family musical group. Daughter Olivia has made music with Lawson Bates. The family also rubs shoulders with the Duggar family.

The Collins Family:

(Also I know that I'm not really involved in this discussion but I feel like I need to say for the record that while Raphael is *definitely* the best turtle, Michelangelo is a respectable choice too. Sometimes you meet people who say they love Leonardo and it's like...bro, who hurt you? Plus I'm legally required to link to this XKCD comic anytime the Ninja Turtles are mentioned.)

Three Ships: Well, I write RPDR fic, and seeing as how my avatar is Courtney Act, it would be wrong not to mention the two main ships I write with her: Bianca Del Rio/Courtney Act (Bitney) and Adore Delano/Courtney Act (Adorney). Third places changes a lot based on what I'm reading/writing but I always really love the Sasha Velour/Shea Coulee (Sasha) dynamic. (Also, @theartificialdane and I just wrote a few scenes where Pearl and April are highkey flirting and I'm pretty into that.)

First Ever Ship: As a kid, I was really REALLY into TV couples with strong bisexual energy. Jessie and Slater from Saved by the Bell, Max and Kyle from Living Single, Clare and Steve from OG 90210. I was also very hyper fixated on The Baby-Sitter's Club books for like, years, and really just always felt a *spark* between Dawn and Kristy. (But seriously, go back and read how Kristy describes Dawn compared to how she describes anyone else, or how other people describe Dawn for that matter. And fun fact: Ann M. Martin is in fact a lesbian. So...)

My 5-Star Review

Delicious Monsters was one of my most-anticipated reads of 2023, and boy did it deliver! I was so ready for a creepy, horror-filled tale, and that’s exactly what I got -- whether it’s body horror or birds (oh how I hate birds, and this book did not help!), it’s all in here. We’ve got the tale of a mansion we keep hearing is “dangerous,” told from the POV of two teen Black girls a decade apart: Daisy, in the past, and Brittney, in the present. Daisy and her mom inherit the cursed mansion and move up to live on the grounds and turn the house into an Airbnb. Brittney, who grew up with an awful, abusive mother who has since become famous for “turning her life around” after a stay at the mansion, is a YouTube documentarian. She and her partner are working on their show, “Haunted,” with a season she wants to be about forgotten Black girls. Slowly, slowly, the story unravels before us, alternating timelines and POVs, and I swear you will be unable to look away from the horror that you know is around the corner.

This story is creeptastic and spooky and just fabulously horrific, and I mean that in the best way. We need more YA horror like this! Also, I have to mention *that cover*, which I’m declaring now as my favorite cover of the year. I can’t imagine *anything* coming along that will beat the creepy beauty of this one!

Rating: 5 stars!

Kristie wrote something about never in her life wanting to live with Steph again, that she was messy and couldn’t do her own laundry, I even think she used the word pig 😂😂 poor Steph, I do think she was a bit lazy though.

I think I’m gonna start using this blog again. I’d be absolutely shocked if anyone was still here after all these years, and even more shocked if anyone remembered me.

I’m Kristie, if that rings any bells. I once was a flute studio loser at SUNY Fredonia, and then a Music Therapist in NJ, and now an almost-social worker living in New Hampshire. Outside of Nathan and Mariah, who are your favorite skaters (pairs/dance, other singles skaters)?

OH MY GOD, where do I even begin. There are almost too many to count, but.

For "this era" skaters, I am sort of obsessed with Gabriella Papadakis and think she is like, the most gorgeous, fascinating human who walks the earth. (There may be a fic about her in the future of this blog, look out.)

And the gems simply do not come any more bright or beautiful than Jason Brown.

My original skater crush, when I was a younger, was Paul Wylie, and yes I have stayed mad about his silver medal for whole decades. He remains adorable, FYI. And I loved that whole generation of skaters around him -- Nancy Kerrigan (I will fight anyone on this), Kristi Yamaguchi (Queen), Midori Ito (so badass), Kurt Browning (hot).

I am also a great fan of hot mess skaters of all stripes -- Philippe Candeloro is their undisputed king.

And Scott Moir is the sexiest person who has ever lived, but you all knew that already.
