You can love someone so much. But if they don’t want to be saved, nothing will save them. Not even love.

Every person I’ve ever loved has some how become toxic to me. A living, breathing reminder of why I was always better off alone. I love too hard, too quickly and then sometimes I don’t love enough. I guess I’m just bad at love.

With You (Kristie Mewis x Reader)
Tumblr media
A chance meeting in the grocery store brought the two of you together, and it was the cruelest of fates that tore the two of you apart.
A/N: You’ll need tissues for this one, because it’s hella angsty, also thank you to @kj-1130 for requesting angst and helping with this one!
Kristie Mewis stepped out of her bedroom and into the living room, a frown tugging the corners of her mouth downwards.
If it were a typical morning, you’d be singing in the kitchen, most likely burning whatever breakfast you were making, a cheery grin on your face when noticed her, that grin accompanied by a kiss.
She longingly stares at the stove, hoping to will you into existence, though she knew that was impossible.
She shakes her head, her eyes darting around the empty house, a house that would no longer be filled with your presence.
“Kris?”
Kristie jumps, hopeful to see you when she turns around, instead, she finds her younger sister, Sam standing behind her, the blonde frowning as she makes her way towards her.
The second she reaches her, the tears begin to flow, a sob tearing its way up her throat, her sister throwing her arms around her, allowing the older of the two to sob into her shirt.
She’d become accustomed to Kristie’s tears recently, something she never wished to see again, but that wouldn’t be the case, not for months to come.
A particular sob makes Sam’s eyes squeeze shut, the blonde holding her sister with all her might, doing her best to keep the older woman from shattering.
It doesn’t work.
                                                             ***
Kristie’s hands clench around the steering wheel, her blue orbs glazing over as she spots the restaurant, the two of you had frequented often.
“Kristie?” Sam says, the blonde paying her no mind as she stares at the corner nearest to the restaurant, thrown headlong into one of the many memories she’d made with you.
                                                             ***
"I know it was nothing REALLY fancy, but I thought--
Kristie cuts you off, the woman boldly cupping your cheek as the two of you exit the restaurant, coming to a stop on the sidewalk outside.
Your breath hitches, the woman’s thumb brushing your bottom lip as you lean into her touch.
“It was perfect.” She whispers, the blonde grinning.
“YOU were perfect.” She says, leaning in.
You meet her halfway, your lips meeting in the first kiss of many in the relationship the two of you would share.
                                                             ***
“Kristie?” Sam repeats, knowing the blonde hadn’t heard her the first time, several horns blaring behind her as she sits at a green light.
Her throat constricts, her chest beginning to tighten as the blonde remembers the way the two of you giggled after your kiss, the two of you leaning immediately back in.
Kristie blinks back tears as she rolls through the intersection, her bottom lip trembling as she passes the spot you’d frequented so often.
The place where your relationship truly began.
                                                             ***
You’d met in the grocery store, the two of you accidently colliding with one another, both of you on your way to get a tub of ice cream after a bad breakup.
It wasn’t until you caught one another’s gaze that you smiled; a smile that immediately made Kristie’s heart skip a beat.
Approaching her after that had been easy, the megawatt smile not only she wore, but you as well, drawing the two of you into one another.
“Hi.” You said sweetly, unable to take your gaze off the blonde, who’s grin only widened.
“Hey.”
You chuckle, holding up your tub of ice cream.
“Rough breakup.” You shrug.
Kristie smiles.
“Same. Ben & Jerry’s solves everything.”
You chuckle motioning down the ice cream aisle.
“Come on, I’ll show you the best flavor for a breakup.” You smile, the blonde giggling as she moves alongside you, unaware that you’re smiling softly her way, your heart stuttering in your chest.
She grins, the two of you walking side by side down the aisle.
“I’d like that.”
                                                             ***
Kristie’s pulled from her daze, the woman staring longingly at a picture the two of you had taken together, both smiling cheerfully as you held one another tightly.
Her stomach begins to twist violently, the woman knowing she’d never be able to make another memory like that with you again.
She isn’t sure how long she stands there, but when Sam’s hand settles on her back, she jumps, her glassy blue orbs locking with her sister’s for a moment before she turns back to the photograph.
“What do you say we go see her tomorrow?” Sam whispers, brushing a loose strand of hair out of her sister’s face.
Kristie nods silently, tears that had been in her eyes streaming down her cheeks as she looks back at the photograph, your face forever etched in a beaming grin, one you only reserved for her.
“I’d like that.” She whispers caressing the photograph’s surface, the woman attempting to swallow the lump her in throat.
“I think she’d like that too.”
                                                             ***
Later that night, Kristie wakes with a gasp, the sound of screeching tires and the smell of gasoline clouding her senses, her heart pounding as she surveys the room, frowning when she finds your side of the bed empty.
She rolls on her side, tears in her eyes as her hand settles on the cold sheets, the blonde imagining you were fast asleep beside her, her hand on your slowly rising and falling chest.
She grabs the pillow you’d used every night, sending the blonde a cheeky grin as you’d shuffle closer, wrapping your arms tightly around her as she fell fast asleep.
She pulls the pillow against her chest, your scent still clinging to it as she buries her face in it, the woman wishing she had her arms around you instead.
                                                             ***
It was early the following morning that Kristie pushed open the wrought ironed gate leading to the place you were buried, the woman holding a bouquet of flowers, precisely made with a message in mind; I love you, and I miss you.
She makes her way through the graveyard, coming to a stop before your grave, her hands tightening on the flowers in her palm.
She swallows hard, her eyes zeroing in on your name etched across the grey stone, the blonde sighing as she takes a seat in front of you.
“Hey Y/N.” She whispers, stroking the headstone, her throat constricting, tears forming in her eyes.
“I miss you... I miss you more than words can describe; I can’t go a day without thinking about you....” She lets out a sob, leaning heavily on the cold stone, hopeful that, somewhere, somehow, you were listening.
“I love you Y/N, so much, I wish you were here, I wish I didn’t have to visit you here, I just want you to come back home.” She cries her cheek resting on your tombstone.
She isn’t sure how long she lays there, her eyes tightly shut, the woman imagining your arms wrapped tightly around her.
Reluctantly, she sits up, a pressure mark on her cheek from her time laying against your tombstone.
She ducks down, pressing a kiss to your name, her eyes fluttering shut as her forehead rests against the stone.
“I love you, Y/N, and I always will, I’ll be back soon\, okay?” She whispers, moving to her feet.
She stares longingly at the headstone before she turns on her heels, leaving you to your eternal rest in the soil beneath her feet.
                                                             ***
It took over five months for Kristie Mewis to finally get back in her groove, and get on the pitch, the woman staring longingly at the sky as she sunk her first USWNT goal since she’d taken some time off, her teammates surrounding her, hugging her tightly.
She tilts her head back, tears streaking down her cheeks as she looks skyward, up to the heavens, hoping that somehow, you were there, looking down on her.
She glances at the stands, her eyes widening when she spots you in the crowd, a beaming grin on your face, however, when she blinks you’re gone.
She smiles, knowing full well that wherever she went, you were right there beside her, and that you would be with her always.

“Did you sleep well?” Alicent asked cooly, hugging her nephew tight.
“Best sleep I’ve had in quite some time,” Julienna responded as she crossed the distance between them before kneeling down.  She pressed a kiss against her son’s head and then glanced up at her sister. “Although I could have done without the fright of finding my son missing.”
Alicent sighed. “We didn’t want to wake you.  After everything you shared last night, I thought you’d appreciate not having to wake so early.  We thought a little lie-in would do you good.”
“I do appreciate it, my dear sister.” Julienna then pressed a kiss against Alicent’s forehead. “I was worried is all.  I’m always worried about him.  I worry about him getting hurt and not being there to make it better and I worry because he’s a Lannister in King’s Landing with godforsaken scoundrels willing to do godforsaken things.  A mother can only do so much and worrying is one of the few things within my control.  You’ll understand someday.”
Alicent face turned into a pout. “I hate it when people say that. People are always telling me that, like I’m nothing but a child.”
Julienna gently gripped Alicent’s chin, which surprised her sister.  Alicent’s large eyes met Julienna’s. “Don’t be so quick to wish away your youth, my dear sister. Enjoy it while you may because someday you may find yourself futilely wishing it back.”
Alicent’s lips rolled together. “Is that truly how you feel?”
“I love my son and I wouldn’t trade that for anything,” Julienna whispered before she sighed. “But you and I are nothing more than pawns in a game that we have no choice but to play.  Only we don’t make the rules nor do we decide the moves.  It’s all decided for us. For now, consider yourself lucky that your piece hasn't yet been played, Alicent.”
