@marbleheavy put french will solace in my head and he won't leave
so here, have this
(disclaimer: i took french in elementary school but that was a long time ago. spare me your judgements, this language makes no sense)
someone, i do not know who, responded to Will telling them he was French by saying "that makes sense because you're baguette colored"
wildly inconsistent in his pronunciation of croissant. sometimes he goes full French le croissant, sometimes he just says cruh-SAWNT. depends on how he's feeling
if someone asks him to say something in French, he will swear. how did he learn swear words when he was so young, you ask? foul-mouthed grandfather, that's how.
(mildly related: i love the mental image of him getting pissed and saying "Oui, oui, motherfucker.")
taught himself to mutter in French when he gets frustrated, but he doesn't usually have the vocabulary to express his current feelings so it's a lot of nonsense and vaguely French noises. sometimes he will recite a shopping list, other times it's just adjectives
calls percy le garçon de l'eau (water boy). this is non-negotiable
frequently confused by grape vs raisin vs grappe. "Grape" in French is raisin and grappe in English is "bunch." Has been known to ask for 'dry raisins' on occasion
only knows the French animal sounds, because nobody sits you down at age ten and tells you "the dog goes woof!" so he thinks dogs go ouaf. Below is a list of other animal sounds Will has made, to the amusement of everyone around:
Rooster: Co-co-rico
Bird: Piou piou (everyone thinks he is making little gun noises)
Frog: Croa croa (literally nobody understands him. he has a personal vendetta against the word 'ribbit')
Duck: Coin-coin (unprovoked, he will go on rants about how ducks don't make a 'k' sound so 'quack' makes no sense)
cheese snob. also bread snob. would be a champagne snob if he'd had any at home before leaving
uses alors as a filler word (the way english speakers use 'like' or 'um'), along with english filler words, which is very funny to listen to
is the first person to bring up how awful the French language is, pronunciation wise. people are usually confused, since he is French and speaks French, and he goes "oh, I don't understand the language, I just know it."
his french vocabulary is half-decent, but Italian and French are only somewhat similar, so when Nico is ranting in Italian Will sits there like "that was 'battle' and there was 'competition' and that was definitely 'error.'"
(nico yelling in italian about how his teammates let him down in capture the flag; will, a semi-fluent French empath, sensing he might be upset)
reverts to French when talking to all dogs because (in my own hc) he is massively afraid of them and the farm dog back home only responded to French so now he thinks that's the only way to make dogs not want to eat him. in reality he's just a dog magnet and they love him no matter what he says

André Robert Breton was born on February 18, 1896. He was a French writer and poet. He is known best as the co-founder, leader, principal theorist and chief apologist of surrealism. His writings include the first Surrealist Manifesto (Manifeste du surréalisme) of 1924, in which he defined surrealism as "pure psychic automatism".
Along with his role as leader of the surrealist movement he is the author of celebrated books such as Nadja and L'Amour fou. Those activities combined with his critical and theoretical work for writing and the plastic arts, made André Breton a major figure in twentieth-century French art and literature.
Breton was an avid collector of art, ethnographic material, and unusual trinkets. He was particularly interested in materials from the northwest coast of North America. During a financial crisis he experienced in 1931, most of his collection (along with that of his friend Paul Éluard) was auctioned. He subsequently rebuilt the collection in his studio and home at 42 rue Fontaine. The collection grew to over 5,300 items: modern paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, books, art catalogs, journals, manuscripts, and works of popular and Oceanic art.
French anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss, in an interview in 1971, spoke about Breton's skill in determining the authenticity of objects. Strauss even described their friendship while the two were living in New York: "We lived in New York between 1941 and 1945 in a great friendship, running museums and antiquarians together. I owe him a lot about the knowledge and appreciation of objects. I've never seen him [Breton] doing a mistake on exotic and unusual objects. When I say a mistake, I mean about its authenticity but also its quality. He [Breton] had a sense, almost of divination."
After Breton's death on 28 September 1966, his third wife, Elisa, and his daughter, Aube, allowed students and researchers access to his archive and collection. After thirty-six years, when attempts to establish a surrealist foundation to protect the collection were opposed, the collection was auctioned by Calmels Cohen at Drouot-Richelieu. A wall of the apartment is preserved at the Centre Georges Pompidou.
Nine previously unpublished manuscripts, including the Manifeste du surréalisme, were auctioned by Sotheby's in May 2008.

Tumblr media
另一种解释认为该词来源于三个希伯来词语:即Ab(圣父)、Ben(圣子)及Acadsch(圣灵)。
Wubba lubba dub dub!
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
他认为,只有物质对象才是可知的,所以把 a(希腊语中表示“不”的意思)与 gignōskein(希腊语中表示“知道”的意思)结合起来,创造了agnostic。
Tumblr media
由于沙发椅沾上发油后易留下污渍,所以人们就发明了antimacassar(由 anti和macassar 组成)。
Tumblr media
在建筑物中,atlas(复数形式是atlantes)指的是男像柱,它们被用作上横梁的支撑柱。
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
该词可能源自短语have bats in one's belfry。
类似的词还有batshit(极不合理的),可能源自apeshit(像猿猴一样因为愤怒或兴奋失去控制),以及squirrelly(可能源自松鼠般的不稳定)
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
他这样做是为了希望“以她的封面为护封广告,以期终止此类广告”(blurbing a blurb to end all 封面为护封广告,以期终止此类广告”(blurbing a blurb to end all blurbs)。
Tumblr media
boycott a person,organization,etc.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
其他逆成词还包括 commute(commuter的逆成词)、diagnose(diagnosis的逆成词)和televise(television的逆成词)。
Tumblr media
Busman's holiday
Mad Man's Holiday.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
作为该词一要素的wig可能也与 wiggle(扭动,蠕动)有关。
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
追根溯源,它源自拉丁语intelligentia(感知力或理解力)。
Tumblr media
由于全称表述累赘而形成缩略词的其他科学术语还包括:AIDS(艾滋病),源自 acquired immune deficiency syndrome(获得性免疫缺陷综合征);radar(雷达),源自 radio detecting and ranging(无线电探测与测距);及sonar(声纳),源自 sound navigation ranging(声音导航与测距)。
一般能组成音节的缩写词能容易独立成词,比如NATO(North Atlantic Treaty Organization)、NASA(National Aeronautics and Space Administration)、GIF(graphics interchange format)、不过USA就没人念成u-sa;此外音节也可以组合,例如Gestapo(Geheime Staatspolizei),翻译也很妙:盖世太保。
Tumblr media
其一,一个英国人试图发法语le lieu(地点)的音,have time off in lieu 中的lieu 常发音为loo。
Tumblr media
loo = l’eau,没毛病。
Tumblr media
该词源于希腊语mōros(愚蠢)。
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Nice
Tumblr media
OK
Tumblr media
如buzz(嗡嗡声)、crash(碰撞声)、hiss(嘶嘶声)、moo(哞)、sizzle (嘶嘶声)。
Keeping time,time,time,
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the tintinnabulation that so musically wells
From the bells,bells,bells,bells.
该词源自希腊语onoma 一词,由 onoma(名称)poiein(制作)组合而成。
Tumblr media
英语回文词的例子有 Hannah(人名:汉娜)、level(水平)、minim(微量水平)等。英语中最长的回文词是redivider(重新划分)。
"Able was I ere I saw Elba."
Dog as a devil deified.
Deified lived as a god.
它的开头是Al,sign it,“Lover!”,结尾是revolting,Isla.
另外吉尼斯纪录还认定,芬兰语中的saippuakivikauppias(皂石供应商)是日常生活中使用的最长回文词。
Tumblr media
"A solemn Council forthwith to be held At Pandæmonium, the high Capital of Satan and his Peers."
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
像中文中「机器人」这种翻译,在世界范围内很少见,不过冰岛语总能给你惊喜,vélmenni(机器人) = vél(机器)+ menni(合成词中表示「人」的含义)。
Tumblr media
1754年,英国作家霍勒斯·沃尔浦尔(Horace Walpole,1717—1797)创作了波斯神话故事《锡兰三王子》(The Three Princes of Serendip),从而创造了serendipity 一词。
"they were always making discoveries,by accidents and sagacity,of things which they were not in quest of."
Tumblr media
smog 烟雾
smog(烟雾)是由 smoke(烟)和fog(雾)组成的混合词。 其他混合词还包括:binary(二进制数)和digit(位数)组成的混合词 bit(二进制位),breakfast(早餐)和lunch(午餐)组成的混合词 brunch(早午餐),camera(照相机)和recorder(录音机)组成的混合词 camcorder(摄像机),motor(汽车)和hotel(旅馆)组成的混合词 motel(汽车旅馆),以及transfer(转移)和resistor(电阻器)组成的混合词 transistor(晶体管)。
Tumblr media
Tumblr media

Charging objects
Charger des objets
It's very important for a baby witch to know about charging. The general purpose of it is to put energy in an object. There is plenty of ways you can charge objects. Some ways are easier and some of them takes more time but are much more effective. Some witches will charge only crystals, while others will charge items from their altars and everyday objects, such as rings and other jewleries. I personaly charge items from my altar and my just made pouches and jars. Moon water is also made by charging water with the moonlight. Here are some classic ways to charge  any items:
Charging with the moon:
This is the most comon way to charge items because it's the most effective and easy. During a full moon (or any other moon phase), place the objects you want to charge on a windowsill. Let the items soak in the energy if the moon during the night. You can leave them for more time if you wish.
Charging with the sun:
This is also an easy way to charge objects but be careful because some types of crystals such as citrine will fall appart in pieces at a long contact with extreme light. During the day, place the items on a windowsill for them to soak in the energy of the sun. I usually mix both methods together, for my items to be energized with the moon and the sun.
Visualisation:
Visualisation is a very easy method to charge items in minutes but is often nit as powerful as the moon or the sun. You can use this method in just about everywere, without anyone realising! Normaly you would put your object in front of you and meditate for a bit. Then when you are zen, visualize your object acting like a magnet and pull every energies from the universe. To help a bit with concentration, you can imagine a blue or purple light surrounding your item and nourrishing it.
Charging is something you can do often. Charge your crystals every week or month. Charge some water to make moon water every month, or each time you run out of it. I charge my candles and other altar items just about every 2 - 3 months.
Tumblr media

Kakadu tour - Day 1
3 Septembre 2018
