La Scarzuola, Montegiove, Terni, Umbria, Italy,
It was originally the site of a 13th Century convent associated with St. Francis of Assisi, but was partially abandoned in the 19th Century.
In 1957, the Milanese architect Tomaso Buzzi purchased the convent site and converted it into a multi-faceted architectural complex mainly built with the remains of the convent.
Buzzi built the complex as his interpretation of the ideal city.

IDEAL CITIES
You might say that our city (like so many others) is losing its soul, not because of development, which we need desperately, but because of cheap development. The glory of historic Philadelphia is being replaced by a sea of metal and Dryvit boxes. Yet some individuals, obsessed with the loss, have devoted their lives to building monuments to the desire for something better. One such astonishing monument is LA SCARZUOLA, in the Umbria region of Italy.

The ideal city exists: and it is an all-Italian surreal dream
A garden, a park, a dreamlike and visionary dream that becomes reality, but which confuses and stuns in its surrealism.
A garden, a park, a dreamlike and visionary dream that becomes reality, but which confuses and stuns in its surrealism. This is what Tomaso Buzzi’s ideal city is. (more…)

These are the main references I used for the main characters of The Six when considering their homes in their upbringing. More descriptions and also what real-world places I’m referencing under the cut:
Constanta [Tyniec, Poland]: Constanta was orphaned when she was very young, around five, and she was raised in the Abbey of the Night Queen in the Janurian Province of Isara. The Abbey and its village, Rylec, are pretty isolated regardless, hence why Raza’s hanging out there.
Elene [The Alhambra, Granada, Spain]: Elene was born before the Janurian Empire conquered Cazador. Her childhood home was a royal palace complex, since they were often living spaces for many people. Elene’s childhood home, Lindaraja, is still her home as an adult.
Odetta [Aragonese Castle, Ischia, Italy]: Odetta is one of the princesses of the night elven kingdom Ilargia. Ilargia is centered on the Ilargi Isles, and Odetta was raised in the Crescent Palace on the main island of Ilgora, which is the royal residence. Odetta’s home as an adult is still the royal residence in Ilgora.
Loretta [La Scarzuola, Umbria, Italy]: Loretta was born to the Capulet family of Deaterra, a powerful noble family. As a result, Loretta grew up in one of Deaterra’s most prominent castles, and spent time going between her home and the royal residence in Dellaquila.
Tzivya: Tzivya’s people, the dawn elves of the Tasigun Desert and Sultanate of Qadahan, are largely nomadic, peacefully moving between the desert kingdoms of the south, though recently their traditional migratory pattern was cut off when Cazador was conquered.
Adela: Adela was born in Astel, a small kingdom-turned-oligarchy, to merchants. When she was thirteen, her parents disappeared while away, leaving her permanently in her Aunt Marlena’s care. Marlena’s countryside house is still Adela’s home.
