my midst evangelist mutuals will be happy to know i started listening today! it's very good so far. really cool worldbuilding, very interesting setup getting slowly dripped in over time. they do a great job of setting up the tension where i'm sure that these background class frictions and political motivations are going to boil over at some point in the near future but as of right now, i can't begin to guess what that tipping point's going to be.

Another reason why the the Circle of Magic is so so good: the teachers and the school setting are done perfectly!
There is none of that Harry Potter bullshit where the teachers and adult figures were neglectful, incompetent or abusive. The teachers in Circle of Magic are amazing. They all have different teaching styles, but they dedicate themselves to their students and do a wonderful job. They make mistakes, but realistic ones and then they fix them.
Not only are they great teachers, but the Winding Circle Temple isn't just a school, it's a home. Hogwarts was a school, and the students lived there, but it never seemed to be a good home. There are very few adults, all intimidating and not very personal. There is unchecked bullying and very little free time. It's just never ending school with some holidays thrown in.
The Winding Circle Temple, on the other hand, feels like a home. First, a temple is such a neat setting for a children's book. They actually talk about midnight service, religious figures and holidays, and philosophy. It's very neat.
The kids have plenty of lessons, but they also have free time, and the teachers are also good caretakers. Lark teaches the kids handstands and tumbling. Frostpine told them stories. Rosethorn taught them how to make sun lotion. Gorse gives them treats whenever they drop by. Lark and Rosethorn take the kids to markets and festivals. Throughout it all, the adults are responsible, teach the kids all sorts of life lessons and skills, and are really amazing adult characters.
This is how a school type book should be written.

My feelings about Rebecca are more complex then my feelings about Lark and Sparrow
With what we know I hate the twins a lot, like they would be the antagonist in one of those revenge comic thingys.
Rebecca on the other hand, we don’t know what she knows. She could have been the world’s worst enabler. Normal loves his mom dearly, but earlier on in the season he was right to be pissed at her for never taking a side. Normal is a push over, always lets others have what they want? Normal and the vulture mascot incident. Cheating on your husband with his twin brother. Hero hasn’t really said much about her so I doubt their relationship is great.
But on the other hand
Is very proud of normal (probably Hero too.) Is the literal money maker so there is a chance they went behind her back. Hero may have just not had anything bad to say about her. Probably made all of the big decisions in raising their kids cause it would have been too awkward for Sparrow. Probably tried to keep Lincoln and Normal friends. Would definitely pay for Hero’s college no strings attached. In normal’s 2000s gay kid movie arc she is the supportive parent.
I don’t even mean this in like a Rebecca hate way, but like I wanna know other peoples thoughts.

[ID: A digital drawing of Lark Oak-Garcia, who has long brown hair, freckles, and is wearing a black hoodie and black pants. He's shown slightly from behind, hunched over uncomfortably and staring behind him, looking paranoid. He's cast in a dull, dark light, and in the background behind him is a blood stain. end ID]
RIP sunny with its go hyperfixation, you would've eaten lark oak alive

If Anthony Burch is here then I’m going to do what he hates which is genuinely complimenting him
The reveals with the doodler and the oak family was so incredibly well done, the doodler always felt a little removed the themes of generational and family trauma and the way it actually is fits into those themes perfectly. It also gives everything so much complexity, why is lark trying to kill the doodler if that’s what he saw, things like that. The parallels between the oak family particularly the twins and normal are fantastic and it makes sense the twins “made” the doodler. I think this is genuinely one of the greatest episodes and while all the players had plenty of hand in that Anthony’s writing and planning is the real standout and he is fucking fantastic at characterization and getting themes across and it’s just great and I’m losing my mind

Criminally Underused Bird Nicknames for Jaskier
I love "Lark" as much as the next Witcher fic reader, but there are so many more options we could explore! Here are a few:
Jay / Bluejay This one has excellent potential because 1) jays are incredibly beautiful, colorful, intelligent, and social and 2) their songs are terrible. (Examples here, here, and here.) As such, it'd be perfect for a fond-yet-teasing nickname for Jaskier. Plus, it sounds like the first letter of his name!
Magpie Magpies are corvids like jays, so they're similar in many ways. This one has the extra connotations of collecting shiny things for bonus fun teasing <3
Sparrow Sparrows have lovely songs! They tend not to be very colorful, but they're very cute and the name sounds endearing. I've seen this one used in fic occasionally and I like it!
Sanderling Sanderling is an adorable name for an adorable bird -- they're little sandpipers that run around on beaches! It works perfectly as a reference to Jaskier's role as the Sandpiper and I think it's really sweet.
Peep Peep is a general term for the smallest few species of sandpipers (they're hard to identify at the species level, so calling them peeps is most convenient). It's similar to Sanderling in that it references Jaskier's role as the Sandpiper and sounds adorable!
Bonus: Songbird I have seen this one used in a few fics and I love it every time! It's vague enough to let you imagine whichever bird you want while also sounding very sweet.
Extra options include, but are not limited to: warbler, finch/goldfinch, nightengale, robin, kinglet, titmouse, mockingbird, and starling.
