i've never read a warriors book but i'm aware of like, aspects of the story. i've seen some of excerpts from the newest book (??) and nightheart seemed so....whiny?? idk if that's the word i'm looking for but i can't tell if it's on purpose or if he's just written weirdly. like, it seems like he's suppose to be someone that doesn't get any love from his family but he comes off the opposite way and that he's just spoiled

Welcome to warriors. I dont think its on purpose that hes whiny (them trying to make an unreliable/cunt narrator) i think they think this is good dialogue/we should agree with him because the website seems to be pushing this “oh that rash Flamepaw always in firestars shadow poor him!” angle. Its also a very weird character arc for them to choose when we’ve had PO3 OoTS and AVoS from a Firestar grandkid, TBC from a great-great-grandkid (Bristle<Fern<Lion<Leaf<Fire) and now Flamepaw as a great-grandkid like… the chance was there. They failed to do it with Alderpaw and this just feels like a rehash.

As for the actual character arc… No one in River was mean to him, no one compared him to Firestar directly and told him he had to be like Firestar- it was gentle encouragement if anything- yet the Erins are insisting hes some poor victim of legacy. The subtext of the series/promo material (so far) is that Flamepaw is a poor widdle baby not ‘Flamepaw is a dumb fucking kid/unreliable narrator plagued by insecurity who needs to grow up’ so. I don’t need the narrative to hold my hand and tell me he’s wrong becoz its currently grabbing my throat and demanding i should feel bad for some spoiled kid. The “squirrel and spark have always been this way” kinda doesn’t work becoz Squirrel is nothing but understanding to Hollypaw when she stresses about being a good warrior/deputy/having kids when shes brambleclaw/firestar descended in The Sight (Dark River?) and “traditionalist” Sparkpelt is… a HC if anything.

Uno what i actually typed up some longer “i understand the nightheart sympathisers/squirrel + spark have always been this way camp” “the series is poorly written, the erins will make characters act in extreme ways to push a story” “the erins are pushing for him to be Right” discussion but actually i think hes just fucking whiny and spoiled because nothing that bad has happened to him, the sparkpelt as neglectful is a retcon, and here he is whining about firestar and how dare his mother want him to look up to/be like her esteemed grandfather. And anyway bruv its just a name its literally not that deep its never been that deep before. Cringe!

Several days of research, drafting, and meticulous nitpicking has brought us here. As much of a family tree fix as I can manage alone, including over 200 cats!

There are NO OCs in this graph. Everyone you see here is from Su Susann's Missing Kits, mentioned in a field guide, or directly from forgotten allegiances. A few characters have been renamed, shuffled, or intentionally removed.

REMOVALS: These may be shuffled to another litter at a later time, but for now, are effectively cut or combined with another character.

Lilyheart needs no children and the clan had more than enough cats already. Honeyfur, Leafshade, and Larksong are cut.

Larksong's roles have been absorbed by the composite cat, Hollylark.

On that note, Hollytuft is the other half of the composite.

Brightheart is a frequent surrogate for cats in other Clans; Snowbush, Ambermoon, and Dewnose may show up elsewhere, but NOT in ThunderClan.

Eaglewing is cut.

CHANGELOG: When a group is referred to as "Characterkin," it refers to the common ancestor with that suffix. For example, Firekin refers to cats with Firestar as a common ancestor.

Daisytoe and Flashnose COULD still be siblings without issue but I decided to leave it off for better visibility

Squirrelwhisker and Beetail are probably siblings but Re: better visibility

Icecloud is now born AFTER the Great Battle; they are named after Iceheart, the cat who was Scourge.

Foxleap is now a CloudxBright child

Rockfall becomes the mate of One-eye, and attains an Honor Title; White-eye, for losing an eye to infection.

One-eye's pre-Honor Title name was Pheasantfeather, she also lost an eye to infection.

They both found this VERY amusing.

Halftail is now a child, not One-eye's mate, fixing a very frustrating retcon where One-eye was not the oldest cat in ThunderClan.

Mistlekit becomes a warrior named Mistleclaw, who died in a very serious sickness during Spottedleaf's Plague

Graystripe is now Dappletail's son, and his littermate Featherkit died in Spottedleaf's Plague

Cricketkit becomes a warrior named Cricketclaw, and was the littermate of Darkstripe.

Tulipkit and Chestnutkit were taken from other litters and given to Robinfuzzy, to create an in-between generation for Dustpelt and Raven, as Robinfuzzy would be too old.

Tulipflight and Chestnutface died in, you guessed it, Spottedleaf's Plague.

Though he was ultimately renamed for conflict reasons, Rabbitbone is sporting an Honor Title. He was made the head chef after Mumblefoot became deputy.

Speckletail is the niece of Doestar now, and strongly desired to carry on her legacy.

Oatbell's name refers to the bell-shape of some flowers, such as bluebells, gorse, and oat berries.

Hazeltail does not die of greencough, she is saved by Jayfeather. Mousewhisker is going to leave for RiverClan in ASC (minnowmouse shippers stay winnin'), and Hazel will be taking any noteworthy actions he does in ThunderClan

Fernsong is now an ex-kittypet who joins along with Stormcloud and Jessy. His old name was Fiddles.

Blossomfall's kits were conceived during a stay with The Kin, the father(s) are not known.

Redtail and Spottedleaf are now the children of Rosetail

Redtail and Runningwind are the parents of Sandstorm and Longtail.

Patchpelt is now the father of Willowpelt, adding a generation between Willow and AdderSwift.

The Three Seedpelts

There were THREE Seedpelts to begin with. I decided to split them into 3 characters.

The oldest Seedpelt keeps her name; she was deputy of ThunderClan when SkyClan was exiled, and stepped down in protest. She joined Ripplestar's Rebellion, and was condemned to the Dark Forest when she died.

She has a striking resemblance to her descendants, Ferncloud, Elderberry, and Ashfur.

The next was Seedwhisker. He was the brother of Mapleshade.

He lived the rest of his life in regret at his cowardice, having not spoken up for his sister or nespring, and became a supporter of the Queen's Rights in spite of Oakstar's opposition to them.

His new name comes from an accidental misprint, he was called Seedwhisker once in canon.

The last was Seedfall, who could have plausibly been Seedwhisker in the timeline, but I decided that Adderfang could use a sibling.

Firekin is now HARD defined

It means that you are directly descended from Firestar and Sandstorm. (Who were btw in a QPR)

Cloudtail is not counted in this category because Fireheart botched the claiming of the Queen's Rights when bringing him to ThunderClan, admitting he was his nephew and voiding his right.

Firekin only tracks through direct descendants as a result.

Squirrelflight is infertile and will always be. All Firekin can trace their way through The Three, and ergo Leafpool.

Ivypool and Dovewing are technically the bio-offspring of Poppyfrost and Jayfeather, but this is not widely known, and they are raised by Cinderheart and Lionblaze.

Sparkpelt and Alderheart are no longer Firekin. Nightheart and Finchlight are Firekin through their other parent, Hollylark.

Hollylark was conceived through supernatural methods (and by accident).

Flywhisker and Snaptooth were foundlings adopted by Toadstep and Lionblaze; but they are leaving the Clans in a similar way to Canon.

The Tigerkin Family

Goldenflower's only mate was Tigerclaw, unlike canon where she was with Patchpelt to have Swiftpaw and Lynxkit.

Brambleclaw becomes Bramblestar just after BB!Po3, and Squirrelflight doesn't get back with him after the secret is revealed

His kits are from Jessy, who was temporarily named Sweetbright.

She cat-divorced him shortly after their kits were born, taking Alder with her. The human named him Louie; Bramblestar changed it back when he returned

Both of them have a very complicated relationship to their father.

The Dustfern Fixes, Fernkin Broadly

Elderberry was saved to fix an age gap; Ferncloud is closer in age to Dustpelt, and Ashfur is from a litter born just before Brindleface's murder. Elder was the sibling who was part of the Dog Relay Race.

Dustpelt was also not a mentor yet, as he was too young. Instead, he was undergoing a secondary apprenticeship under One-eye for construction work.

Cloudtail was Elder's and Fern's best friend growing up, but NOT an adopted brother. This is to avoid Whitewing x Birchfall being adoptive first cousins.

Because Brackenfur dies in BB!Po3 and wasn't alive to sire them, Seedpaw and Lilyheart have been swapped over to Dustfern.

Dustpelt died saving them in the Great Battle, reinforcing a den wall against invaders.

Spiderleg and his children are not dying unceremoniously as Greencough Fodder and a TBC kill. All three are alive to the current arc.

Lilypaw watching her sister die to save her was formative. She has no interest in romance, but is much more caring and nurturing than her grumpy face suggests.

Because Whitewing and Birchfall no longer have Dovewing and Ivypool, they get Spotfur and Duststripe instead!

Because Sorreltail didn't die in the battle, Duststripe is named after her grandfather instead.

For a similar reason, Spotfur's child Graykit is now named after their great-grandmother instead. Graystripe lives out the rest of his days in the mountains; Ferncloud must confront her brother.

RazorVerse: Name Changes

I want to have a place to keep all my name changes hehe. Again, this is all just a WIP and is subject to change (and I am open to recommendations!)

Going to try to go in chronological order here.

Frecklewish (TC) > Frecklefur. Reasoning: Sorry yall I know she's more popular than the SkyClan one, but SkyClan Frecklewish came first and that's muuuuch more of a SkyClan name to me than a base clan one. Frecklefur is still cute and has a nice ring to it to me.

Rainflower > Rainstar + Hailstar > Hailstep. Reasoning: Simply to reflect the new ranks. In flashbacks and references, that's what they'll be referred as.

Bluefur and Snowfur > Blueflower and Snowflower. Reasoning: Matching names with their mom!

Ravenpaw > Boo. Reasoning: He becomes a kittypet instead of a barn cat.

Brambleclaw > Brambleblaze. Reasoning: Matches Hawkfrost. Fire theme- Firestar offers it as a sort of apology. "You take after me more than you ever did him"... which Bramble would go on to challenge over the years. Also, makes it so Lionblaze is named after both his ex-adoptive father and grandfather

Tawnypelt > Tawnyclaw. Reasoning: The "honoring your father as the warrior he was, not his crimes" reasoning was moved to her, Blackstar names her. This is meant to be evidence that the clans have not moved on from Tigerstar and his ideology even if they try to show otherwise. This gives Tawny issues!

Jayfeather > Jayflight. Reasoning: Named after Squirrelflight as opposed to his father because A) Leafpool really regrets her time with Crowfeather and B) he isn't getting named by her anyways, and all of the three are named after their family in some form.

Tigerheartstar > Goldenheart/Goldenstar. Reasoning: Taking away the duplicate name, and she is now a FeatherTawny kitten so naming her after the man who tried to kill her mother as a baby is sorta in poor taste anyways. (i mean it was always in poor taste but. yknow.) She is now named after Goldenflower.

Ivypool > Ivyleaf. Reasoning: Named after her biological mother and grandmother. This gives Ivy issues!

Snowbush > Snowfall. Reasoning. I mean. It's Snowbush. (Note: Here he's named after Snowtail, who's a grown up Snowkit and his adoptive grandfather.)

Sorrelstripe > Honeystripe. Also Man Beamed. She, Honeyfur, and Fernsong got combined together (possibly Larksong as well depending on what I decide. Tragic fates for both of the siblings :( ). Reasoning: Hollytuft and Honeystripe are now Jaypoppy kits. neither Ferncloud nor Sorrelstripe die in The Last Hope, so this final child is named after Honeyfern, whose death is moved here. The kits are named for both of their deceased aunts. Name is pending.

Sparkpelt > Sparkstorm. Reasoning: Named after Sandstorm. Also I just think -pelt is about the lamest suffix ever for her and she deserves better.

Twigbranch > Twigshade. Reasoning: Sisters gotta match!

Birchkit > Whitekit. Reasoning: Dovewing's relationship with her (adoptive) parents is changed here. Birchfall was not the father to any of Whitewing's kittens because they were simply friends and he wanted to help her, but he really only played father to her bio kits, Ambermoon, Snowfall, and Dewnose. He distanced himself from Dovekit and Ivykit when Hollyleaf revealed she was their biological mother, and was embarrassed. Dovewing was instead much closer to Whitewing, who she herself was named after. (NOTE: May change this to Willowkit, after Willowshine, due to her dying in TBC.)

Characters that may get renamed but I haven't really figured them out yet.

Crowfeather. Reasoning: Feathertail lives in this AU and she and Crowfeather don't have their brief romance. So he doesn't really have a reason to request the name Crowfeather here, and it loses meaning. (Best I can think of is that he had a one sided crush and this was his way of coming onto her one last time before they went to the lake, which is..... ehhhhhh. It's unnecessary and creepy and he really doesn't need it.) Can't quite figure out a good alternative that holds a similar meaning to the original name though, besides Crowstorm which I don't really like for him.

Ooooo Rosetail as a sunstar kit is such an awesome idea. Sunstar should’ve had kits (hell even had Thistle be Sun’s in my au) and Rosetail as his daughter is so cute. Also, love the growing hc of Rose being RedSpottedWillow’s mom, it just fits.

Hey, I'm really out of the loop and haven't read River yet, if you're up for it what's going on with Nightheart? I tried checking the tag and it didn't help.

so, flamepaw is the son of Sparkpelt/Larksong (dead) and has a pretty rocky relationship w her - he feels abanonded because of when she left (read: was exiled from) ThunderClan and has a big disconnect from her. He doesn't remember much of his father. Because he is Sparkpelt's kid and therefor Firestar's kin he has all this "Oh My God He's Firestar's Kin" hype but it's honestly... half just internalized? there's some comments about him having a great family etc but there's much more of him going "GOD it's so STUPID i'm named after firestar i don't even LOOK like him". he basically has two big character Things which are his messy relationship w Sparkpelt and his negative feelings towards being legacy named. he also has a delayed warrior ceremony because he keeps being an actual tryhard when assessed (like pulling truly risky things that backfire).

this is all fine to be clear - he's not like, badly written. i do think he reads like an extremely biased POV, but the trouble is that a lot of people take his thoughts and feelings at the Most face value they can. there's not much thought given to if his view of sparkpelt is accurate or fair (she was EXILED.), and there's been a lot of fair fandom critique over the writing and how it's veered into misogyny territory in the usual vein of how the erins just treat mothers weirdly and poorly. it's not the worst example ever, but the "story team" at least seems to explicitly side with Flamepaw given the recent article they posted where they sing his praises as a character (by citing several character traits he TRULY does not show, ever, in the book).

basically when he becomes a warrior he objects to being given a warrior name as Flamepaw - he doesn't want to be named after Firestar, he wants to be named for himself. squirrelflight and sparkpelt are written very unflattering-ly in how they object to this and Bramblestar's "compromise" is making him Nightheart - 'night' to reflect his appearance (and the fact that he looks like Larksong) and -heart after Firestar which felt like such a weird way to handle someone going "PLEASE don't name me after him this is a big deal to me", but whatever. I felt like he was going to be a really interesting foil to legacy naming and the way that it took over TC culture and then they were like "sike, fuck you - here's a different legacy name". I have neutral feelings towards legacy naming but LIKE when cultural stuff is addressed and treated as complex and the resolution was kind of flat for me.

in short Nightheart is written as grumpy, irritable, quick to take things personally, impulsive, etc (for shoddy reasons, not actually grounded ones) - all things that I find fun in a POV character! - but then his perspective is treated as 100% accurate and justified by the "story team" and by some fans, particularly when ppl post relatively mild critiques of how Squirrel/Spark were treated by fans and River.

*River is a pretty GOOD book, btw, and I don't dislike Nightheart as a character. I just find the handling of him incredibly weird and the assertion from the "story team" outside of the book that he is a Good Upright Virtuous Character to be really... out of touch? Part of the trouble with Nightheart specifically is he adds nothing PLOT wise to the book. His arc is really not needed and so I feel gets more scrutiny than the other POV characters, fairly so.

ThunderClan family tree draft 1, part 1: Firekin

Gonna do separate trees for all the different TC families, since I tried and can assure you that just isn't really possible without making it look like a mess. I had this one done for quite a while but forgot to post it oof. Anyway, Firestar's line. He and his direct descendants are highlighted in orange -- Cloudtail doesn't count as firekin but I still put him there.

Firestar and Sandstorm aren't mates, just really good friends who both wanted kits. Besides, Fire is aro and gay as hell, and Sand's aroace.

(Sandstorm and Longtail's parents are Redtail (who is not trans) and Runningwind. Longtail was either from an older litter or aged down to be an apprentice in ITW)

Dewnose is shuffled over to another parents, there was no need for BrightCloud to have 4 kids

Ivypool doesn't have a mate she doesn't need one she is perfectly capable of fucking up her kids on her own

Lionblaze is transmasc, and Cinderheart is a vaguely cis lesbian that actually respects herself, so he needs a new partner to raise his million kittens with. I mean he could be a single dad but Lion strikes me as a person that needs another guy to make out with thrice a day in order to keep going. Leaning more towards Toadstep, Icecloud was also an option since he was implied (or just stated?) to also have a little crush on Lion as an apprentice, but he's also transmasc so idk about the lionkin babies, plus I feel like he grew out of it pretty quickly and doesn't really care about Lion that way anymore.

Anyway, regarding the ToadLion kids: Sorrelstripe got shuffled over to another family, Fernsong is a single dad of Myrtle and Bay now. Snap and Fly can stay as Lion's kids because they left TC and thus cannot fuck up the tree's gene pool anymore.

Sparkpelt's mate will either remain Larksong, or be changed to Stormcloud, depending on whether it may fuck up the tree (one again) when I get around to picking Lark's parents. Plus, Stormcloud is clean and can be basically any cat's parent.

This is one I've been thinking about making for a bit, for reasons that I'll explain a bit further down. I finally found what I needed to complete this ref sheet, so here he is, the calm and noble Fuzzypelt!  Or at least that's how he always seemed to me.

You can find the reverse side of his design here.

First, you can see that I've picked out a family for him in his bio. I wanted to make Hollypelt his mother since she's the only plain black cat in TC at the time, but she died during the sickness in GC, and no other kits were mentioned to be born at that time, so I scrapped that. I really love the idea of Mumblefoot being his dad for some reason, so I decided to have Larksong take him as her second mate after Flamenose died somehow, since she has black fur in her tortoiseshell pelt and could pass it on to him. He was the only kit in his litter.

For his physical description, Fuzzypelt is described as a tom with fur that stands on end and a thick-furred tail. Now for some context - growing up, I had a pet cat named Fuzzy. He was born before I was, and he was a big, fluffy black cat. He was my mom's baby and was the sort of cat who just wanted to be loved on and pet and admired all the time, and didn't really care about chasing mice like his brothers, or doing anything other than looking beautiful and being pet. He died when I was in high school.

Ever since Bluestar's Prophecy came out, I've always pictured Fuzzypelt as looking exactly like Fuzzy. They're both fluffy plain black cats, and the names are so similar, so it fit pretty perfectly. So I recently decided to make a ref sheet for Fuzzypelt using an old photo of Fuzzy as the reference. I went poring through some old photo albums and finally found a couple of photos of Fuzzy to work off of. this is the main one I used, but there's also this, and this one to give you an idea of Fuzzy's size (the cat next to him, Shadow, was pretty average in size). I had to wing the body a bit since I couldn't find one of Fuzzy standing perfectly to the side like that, but I think it turned out pretty well. I only gave him a few scars, since it felt kind of weird scarring up a picture of such a softie of a cat as the real Fuzzy was.

For his pattern, he's described as a black cat with yellow eyes. I went on the greener side of yellow for his eyes, since Fuzzy had green eyes.

Overall, I'm really happy with how this turned out.  I think I did Fuzzy justice - I hope I did, anyway.

Been quiet because I got started on the TC family tree again and lads, it's time to finalize something

So by now, regulars will probably know that I'm combining Hollytuft and Larksong (AVoS). I was calling the composite character "Hollylark" to make this combination clear.

But now I'm sitting down to lock in the choice forever; have you all gotten used to the name? Or does it still not look right and youse think I should change it.

(NOTE: Please vote for your favorite choice and do not worry for the spoiler effect, if Hollylark is not the winner, I will whittle this poll down to 2 choices and you can vote again)

Before you vote, things to know;

This character is going to be they/xem (though I am tempted to make them any/all). Though Clanmew doesn't have gendered pronouns anyway, Unnamed Composite is Meewa-gendered

They are the child of Fallenleaf and Cinderheart. They were conceived magically and by total accident, because Fallenleaf does not know how to control her powers and sneezed Cinderheart pregnant.

There are no siblings; Snaptooth and Flywhisker were foundlings adopted by Lionblaze and Cinderheart and ergo are their cousins.

Lilyheart will not be having children in BB; Honeyfur and Leafshade are also eliminated for now.

Unnamed Composite is the other parent of Nightheart, Flickerkit, and Finchlight, and the mate of Sparkpelt, just like canon. Xeir kittens look a lot like xem

Xey will, sadly, be dying in a way similar to canon. Prey poisoning during a very tense part of Squirrelflight's Horror (Squilfhope Reduxed)

Thoughts of RoF

so hey everyone! First post here, right after finishing River of Fire... here we go.

-Needletail has got some seriously awesome sass in that prologue (though why was Yellowfang hanging w/ ShC, she doesn't usually do that???). Plus her visiting Alder in SC was beautiful

-Also, I heart Tall Shadow/Shadowstar

-I may have had a freak out when Bramble told us Ivypool had kits. I mean, Ivypool is tied for the position of fav character (along with Jayfeather) so I take her shit seriously. I wasn’t originally a huge fan of her being with anyone, independent girl badassery for the win and all, but if she had to be with anyone Fernsong is actually not that bad. He respects her ya know?

-Briarlight’s death was... heartbreaking. I know there are some posts here about it being ableist and while I do have some thoughts on that I don’t feel entitled to share on that issue. Look up the posts yourself and read the book and make your own decision :)

-That said, Jayfeather’s reaction BROKE MY GOD DAMN HEART. In fact, everything to do with Jay in this book was fucking awesome. We got to see his vulnerable and caring side, along with his usual sultry and sarcastic self. Jayfeather, who always acts like he doesn’t care, who pushes away offers of help, who stood up to the FUCKING TIGERSTAR (-claw) with relative ease and confidence, was at a loss for words. He was blaming himself when he always pushes himself forward. If that isn’t shattering I don’t know what is...

-Rowanclaw/star... I don’t know what to think. I haven’t been his greatest fan through AVoS, but he didn’t completely fail in this book. I don’t agree with his decision to let ShC fall apart but I can, at some level, understand it. And his death was decent enough.

-On one hand, screw Velvet X Alder. I wanted to tear my eyes (and the pages) out. On the other hand, it was at least surprising in that it seems that there will be no follow up and that Alder actually knows what the right thing to do is and is willing to stand by it.

-Okay, I... please tell me I was not alone in expecting Ivypool to lose her ever loving mind when Dovewing reappeared only to defect to ShC? I am ambivalent towards Tigerstar (-heart) but Dovewing has always annoyed the shit out of me. I have only seen 1 real idea about Dove that I agree with and that is that she actually would have made a really good kittypet. Also, I still hate the name Shadowkit (breaks conventions of not naming kits after clans... come on, follow your own rules). Also, Tigerheart’s Shadow REALLY should not have been published until AFTER RoF. It ruined the climax.

-Kits... way too many kits, especially for an overpopulated clan. I mean COME ON there was FIRE and there was SICKNESS and the only TC cat to die was fricking BRIARLIGHT? They had opportunities, and they squandered them. Also, these names are getting ridiculous. And speaking of names...

-ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME BRAMBLESTAR/ERIN HUNTER? WHAT IN THE NAME IN STARCLAN PROMPTED YOU TO NAME DEAR, SWEET, INNOCENT LITTLE TWIGPAW, TWIGBRANCH????????? FML

-Ummm at least we got cannon recognition that Tawnystar could totally kick ass... Tigerstar (-heart) better make her leader.

-Mistystar should die (too old).

-Leafstar is unpredictable as shit

-Going back to Jayfeather, he had such sweet concern about Alderheart’s romance but he wasn’t even his usual crude and sarcastic self about it. Like, omg, he was kind and gentle (if firm) when he brought it up and genuinely was worried about Alder while still understanding his feelings (Half Moon anyone?)

-Breezepelt getting dirty looks from literally everyone at the gathering gives me joy.

-”Larksong, I caught a leaf!” Finpaw (I already forgot his warrior name, it was obscured by my hatred of fucking Twigbranch) is precious and adorable and must be protected at all costs. I didn’t catch as much romance btw him and Twig as in before, however.

-Also, Twig +Lilyheart mommy-daughter conversation was precious. As was Lilyheart and Ivypool going out to meet her when she finished her warrior assessment

-WTF is wrong with Sparkpelt? I like her less and less each book. At least she warmed up to Twig... (Yes I am now calling her Twig not that monstrosity of a warrior name)
