This reminds me of I think it was corrin's birthday audio thing where Laslow hugs Xander after him fighting in the arena.

I can just imagine Laslow and Peri randomly hugging Xander. Soldiers just see their scowling crown prince and then his goofy retainers hugging him like he isn't one of the most intimidating people in Nohr.

Laslow/Xander

It was late at night when they finally got the time to be together. A light workload and settling peace made the long work days even easier on them. No longer did Laslow have to spend hours trying to convince his husband into bed, now Xander went willingly after the first prod, almost excitedly.

They had even less time to truly explore each other like when they were younger. Duties of a king and consort over a rebuilding nation took their full concentration.

But some nights they were able to seek each other out and spend the waning candle light remapping out every curve and dip of each other. Tonight was one of those nights, where Laslow had gotten an itch under his skin. A need to remind his husband that he too deserved to be pampered and taken care of so he could relax.

The fact that Xander has let himself be stripped and laid out on the bed makes Laslow shiver as he climbs up next to him. The dancer takes his moment by settling next to the blonde, humming as he traces cyphers with soft fingertips over trembling muscles.

Xander lets out a soft breath and Laslow grins to himself, spreading a hand over abs, and grabs Xander’s left hand. He brings it to his lips and kisses each fingertip, his palm, wrist, and down his arm.

There's a huff, and Xander cups Laslow’s cheek. “I am not some fairytale virgin. I do enjoy a bit of pressure, if this is about me.” He chuckles with an amused look on his face. Fond but exasperated.

Laslow rolls his eyes and bites into the meat of Xander’s hand with a childish pout. “Hush. You can’t tell me what to do tonight. You just lay there and let me do my thing.” Laslow coos before flicking at a nipple.

He does take mercy on his husband though, once the blonde resettles, swinging his leg over wide hips, to sit on Xander’s stomach. He chuckled as Xander lets out a soft “Oof” but listens for once and stays still.

Collecting Xander’s other hand, Laslow sets both of them above the king’s head, “Keep them there please.” He mumbles, blushing at the needless politeness. He glances down at his husband’s face and quickly realizes he’s being laughed at. In retaliation, the dancer gently kisses both eyes, the tip of his nose, and just barely passes over his lips. Both of them still for a moment breathing each other in, before Laslow keeps moving, to his cheek, jaw, neck, behind his ears.

He moves lower, and bites into the junction of neck and shoulder, sucking gently until the skin turns bright red under his lips. His hands have been trailing down Xander’s sides, pressing lightly between each rib, until they connect with Laslow’s own legs, then they turn and go back up the chest, grabbing at the pectorals and massaging them.

Laslow pulls his teeth away from skin as his tongue dips into Xander’s collarbone, lapping at the small amount of gathered sweat. Brown eyes close as he moves further south, fingertips and tongue tracing every muscle, every scar.

He heads lower, lifting his hips to move to straddle Xander’s thighs instead. Abs, hips, pelvic dips, then thighs. Knees, shins, ankles, everywhere except the spot that Xander was groaning for, his body trembling with every soft touch.

“Ok, ok, you were right. Please Darling…” Xander begs, nudging his legs closed slightly to jostle Laslow closer to the prize.

“Oohhh, that is my favorite sound. Say it again Sweetheart.” Laslow purrs, kissing at Xander’s hips again, hand trailing down the powerful thighs.

“Laslow… please…”

“Ah, ah, you know what I want. Say it again, make that sound for me.” He bites at Xander’s inner thigh, so very close.

It seems to take tremendous effort before Xander cracks, “You were right. Darling you were right. Soft and slow ruins me, and I crave it everytime. Please, please touch me.”

“Good boy. Very good.” Laslow coos, before fulfilling his husband’s pleas.

Entry 88: The One With Queerbaiting and Gay Conversion Therapy

One more child soldier and we’re done. Also, yes, I am aware I mistakenly did Soleil and Nina’s Paralogues out of order. Who cares.

Paralogue 21: A Bright Smile

Laslow’s daughter Soleil and her soldier friends are attacked by an army of bandits. Soleil tells her men to face battle with a smile and tells the bandits to bring it on. Silas and Laslow, who are there for some reason, hear about the battle and rush in when Laslow finds out Soleil is in danger.

This map is set in a walled city being attacked on all sides by enemies. There are some obstacles you can move to change their paths into the city, which is neat I guess. I didn’t use them. The main thing in this chapter is Soleil’s dumbass friends who you have to go out of your way to keep from dying. When Laslow talks to Soleil, she breaks down and stops smiling because she’s terrified. Laslow says it’s okay to be scared and fights alongside her.

After the battle, Silas says they should recruit Soleil because she’s cheery. A female villager comes up to Soleil to thank her and Soleil asks her out. Laslow says his daughter has good taste in women and Soleil tries to give him dating advice.

Soleil

Laslow’s daughter, a young, cheery, hero who tries to keep her troops happy. Also she’s gay. Like really gay. And, in case you haven’t been paying attention, that is raising alarm bells in my brain because this game’s track record with LGBTQ characters has been pretty terrible so far. Her design is great, like all Mercenaries in this game. I especially like the return of Olivia's pink hair and ribbon, giving Soleil a connection to Awakening. The white shield also looks great agains the black armor and pink hair. Her personal skill, Sisterhood, strengthens her when she's paired up with another girl. Because she’s into women, a trait no other character in this game possesses apparently.

Also the boss was capturable.

Zhara

A Hero boss. Not like Hero as in good person, like he's the same class as Selena, Laslow, Arthur, Charlotte, Soleil, and Gazak, because we certainly needed another Hero. He has a good design but is also a flat character. He has like one line about wanting to test his opponent's strength and that's about it. You know, the capturable bosses thing was a cool idea, but honestly they didn't do much with it.

Support: Laslow/Soleil

C: Soleil picks up chicks. Laslow dotes on her and she asks how her parents got together. This Support does not change based on Laslow's wife so he doesn't answer. Soleil and Laslow decide to make up for lost time by having tea.

B: Soleil gets injured in battle protecting her father. Laslow orders her to protect herself instead of him. Soleil says no because she spent years worrying if her father was alive. Laslow, who watched his mother die as a child, sympathizes. Laslow admits he was worried about losing Soleil like his mother and says he understands Olivia's choice to die protecting him.

A: Laslow says Soleil reminds him of his mother. Laslow chokes up while talking about how he might have to leave Soleil and Soleil decides they should drop the subject and have tea. And also pick up cute girls.

Review: Laslow being afraid to lose Soleil because he’s an orphan, while Soleil risks her life to protect him because she’s spent years fearing his death? Steller writing. Also they have one of the healthiest parent-child relationships which is great.

This is the only good Soleil Support in this entry.

Support: Soleil/Mother

C: Soleil talks about how hot her mom is.

B: Soleil sits their writing poetry about how hot her mom is.

A: Soleil vows to be as hot as her mother. Her hot mom. Who she thinks is hot.

Review: Did fucking Freud write this game?

Support: Corrin/Soleil

C: Soleil changes clothes in public, shocking Corrin. Soleil isn't embarrassed.

B: Corrin sees Soleil flirting with another girl and asks about it. Soleil says she likes women. Corrin admits she sucks at flirting and Soleil offers to let her practice on her.

A: Soleil tries dancing in private but is bad at it. Corrin sees this and Soleil is embarrassed. Corrin thinks Soleils embarrassment humanizes her. Soleil hits on Corrin and Corrin threatens to tell other people about the dancing.

S: There is no S-Rank because Intelligent Systems is kinda homophobic.

Review: I mean if you’re not going to pair up two WLW in a game where literally every heterosexual pair who aren’t very close blood relatives get together if they talk once, then yeah that’s kinda shitty. Other than that, this one is fine; Soleil being shameless then Corrin turning the tables is okay and the chemistry is there, but there’s no payoff because that would be a queer relationship that didn’t feature a creepy predator and we can’t have that.

Support: Moron/Soleil

C: Soleil tells Corrin that she wants to be a great warrior, but loses her mind when she's around cute girls.

B: Corrin puts a blindfold on Soleil and asks her to picture him as a woman. Much like a lot of the Fire Emblem fanbase, Soleil prefers Corrin this way, so much that she almost faints. Soleil begins fantasizing Rule 63 content.

A: Soleil saves a village and is greeted by a pack of grateful girls. She faints. S: Corrin says he loves Soleil, but understands she isn't interested. Soleil says she's bi and that she should start picturing the real Corrin.

Review: This Support isn’t as bad as I expected, considering the horror stories which I will cover in a moment. It isn’t great, but it's mildly amusing. That said, I’m not fond of how they treat Soleil as bisexual, but only have her get together with men, but also portray her as not being into men except in S-Rank Supports.

So, elephant in the room. I don’t talk about the original Japanese version, because I don’t speak Japanese, unless it's such a big change that I have heard about it. Let’s talk about the gay conversion therapy scene in the Japanese version of this scene.

From what I’ve read, in the Japanese version, instead of using a blindfold, Corrin secretly drugs Soleil with a magic drug that makes her see men as women and vice versa, so Soleil can date men. And holy fuck that is messed up. A, don’t fucking drug people Corrin, you’re awful enough in Conquest already. B, that’s fucking gay conversion therapy. Like, drugging queer people to make them comply with heteronormativity is really fucked up! And Soleil is okay with it in the conversation, but still what the fuck?

Now, there is one more thing to say about Soleil. From what I understand, Soleil is supposed to be an example of a Japanese trope called Class S Relationships, which features young girls engaging in flirting with other girls as a practice thing, then growing out of it. And that trope sounds incredibly problematic, but I’m not familiar enough with it to do a full rant. Regardless, a lot of this was toned down in the English translation, by making Soleil a bisexual woman who usually prefers women and then only putting her in heterosexual relationships. Which is better, I guess.

So, after recruiting all twenty-one child units, I’m gonna be honest, most of them are terrible. They did not need to be in this game, they mess up the worldbuilding, and the resources spent on them could’ve been spent better elsewhere. I’ve said my piece on child units. They worked in Awakening because they were tied into the story, in this game they’re tacked on characters I don’t have a reason to care about. A few of them have good Supports, but others have the worst Supports in the game.

But, who knows? Maybe I’ll like them after I read a hundred Supports and play Heirs of Fate. But first, we have some DLC and an entire other Route to take care of.

Okay so something has always felt off about Laslow's fates portrait and I finally figured it out while looking for references of him. He always looks like something is missing but I could never put my finger on it.

The way his collar and hair are positioned as well as the shadow means his ear ring isn't visible in his portrait! It's not like he took it out, you can still see it in his my room portrait (Though you do have to squint because it's being blocked by his hair).
