As usual, I’m gonna share the parts of this article that resonate with me (pretty much all of it). Several points were made. And the unapologetic queer visibility makes me so proud. Please give it a read 🥲

LD: I also do want to say, even though there is a bunch of awesome overlap with the trans community and the drag community, transness and drag are separate things — but that's the reason why we did it [in Tennessee], is because those things are being conflated here.

It's crazy that we were on tour for all of Pride Month and being pretty f*cking gay, and talking about gay rights on stage. You’d think that the circles that we run in would be like, yeah, cool, but I feel like there is still… Prejudice towards gay people comes from all sides, including gay people.

I have, you know, rolled my eyes at certain aspects of Pride, just the corporate aspect of things. We were hanging out with a friend who was like, yeah, the gas station has a pride flag, but I'm still getting looked at funny in the streets; what is Pride actually doing?

JB: Shell Oil Company is like, happy pride! Like, okay.

LD: It's weird, the more comfortable I am, the more opposition I feel from other people who are discontent with how I qualify as a gay person. I'm like, Do you need a sex tape?

PB: As someone who doesn't qualify as gay, I can't participate in this conversation. I haven't sent in enough chips to corporate. [laughs]

I speak for all of us [when I say] I feel like our communities are so supportive, like f*cking rainbows and buttercups all the time. We're really good at making friends and we have so much support around each of us, and so much privilege, and each live in an accepting place and choose accepting people to be around. But when I or Lucy get hate for not turning in our like, gay paperwork, all I'm thinking is about the way that I would have felt at f*cking age 11 being like, Oh, I'm not allowed to do that. This famous person is being humiliated for expressing themselves, and so I should not, I especially should not express myself.

JB: I don't get as much hate because people are like, there goes a lesbian. You know what I mean? [All laugh.]

LD: It’s really binary.

JB: I've spent a lot of my life being a masc dressing queer person, or just not engaging with gender play at all. It’s like, queer people saying that you have to acquiesce to one of three queer archetypes, or one of a handful of queer archetypes in order to be represented.

LD: That's why our shows are so special to me is that they are very gay. People are throwing flags at us, young people are making out in front of us, it is a space that is precious to me and would have changed my life if I could have been a part of it when I was younger. I'm extremely proud, and I just implicitly love everybody at our shows at a base level. I think we all do. The reason we're doing it is because we care abstractly about all these strangers and want for them what we could have had. Also we're coming from a position where we're talking to a bunch of young people, we do get to put messages worth hearing out there, I think that's not lost on us.

PB: I am mostly proud of the way that I watch the discourse [play out], and I'm proud of the conclusions that these children are coming to. Everybody is sticking up for us and each other and there's just a couple weirdos that are very loud. I think our community is being protected by the people in it. And it is such a safe space show, and I'm so fucking proud. Even the amount of femme people in the audience, screaming at the top of their lungs and having to take up a high octave... It’s a different rock show than I've ever experienced. It’s amazing to me.

JB: The microphone I have with y'all, the reach is wider, it just factually is, and I think a lot about responsibility to hear [others’ opinions…] To be the subject of discourse at all is to live a question into the world, so I will allow myself to do that. I will allow a little bit of my identity — which as a queer person, I've been at once defensive of and fiercely protective of and encouraged to erase completely — I'm like, okay, so I have to exist with this identity subsumed into the culture, into the topic of someone's conjecture. Because it's going to be one case study. That's the whole idea of visibility, visibility doesn't have to be perfect representation.

I was thinking about this too, something that bugged me was that meme that was the talent and popularity graph and it was popularity way above talent, and they were like, “This is boygenius.” You're missing the damn point. [If only the most talented people got to speak,] Steve Vai would be speaking for all f*cking musicians because he's best at guitar. That's not what I want.

PB: But again, that is just Twitter. I think we are as beloved as is possible for any public, femme presenting, or queer, in public. I think we just get an amount of hate because we're stepping on guitar guys. It is fucking dumb, and it is just what is happening. Every time I look at a Pitchfork post of us, it's the most incel f*cking shit ever in the comments section.

JB: I was telling Lucy, I feel like if someone made that meme about me, Julien Baker, on a solo headlining tour, I would be up at four in the morning in the back lounge of the bus running scales. With y'all, I'm like, You're missing the point you dumbass. It's like Kathleen Hanna being like, the Sex Pistols are bad at their instruments. Why can I not just have a band that's fun and cool and angry?

LD: I wanna say, we're a little fed up, obviously, with some things, but I agree with you, Phoebe, the biggest sentence I have to say is we're having so much fun. That is the message that I think people are mostly getting, and the one that I want them to get, is that we are happy and having fun, and that is not frivolous at all. Fun is essential.

PB: Everybody knows every word to the entire set. We sell thousands of tickets. It is going as good as humanly possible. It is insane.

LD: And it's because we feel safe and supportive that we can mostly safely and supportively do drag in Tennessee. It's because we have such a solid foundation of joy we can be in defense of other people's joy, in ways that feel really valuable to me personally, and I hope valuable to other people.

JB: The whole reason why I feel comfortable engaging with this at all and it's not an existential crisis for me is because, what you're saying, Lucy: I have a foundation of joy that makes me convicted that this is important, not frivolous, highly worthy, highly valuable. So when I see us as the subject of discourse I'm interacting with it in a different way that I don't think I'd be able to [alone]. I wonder if kids watching that in third person happen will also be resilient to the same kind of things.

PB: You’re allowed to be bad at guitar, anybody reading this.

LD: I’m bad at guitar.

PB: Other shit, you do have to work so hard. And you have to love it. If you love playing guitar and you're bad at guitar, that rocks.

TV: What other moments would you highlight? I feel like there’s been a lot of good ones, like the t-shirt selling out.

PB: Love, love to just have the power to snap my fingers and mobilize people to give their money away to a cause. That is the best part of my job.

JB: It’s participation. It’s visibility. It's you, outward signaling something you believe in as a principle. It's also literally redistributing funds to us to organizers, nonprofits and legislators that are trying to make the world a better place. And we get to be in charge of that, and also give somebody a gift that's like, you're a country queer! We see you.

TV: Did you expect the fans to be so young this tour? I’ve been really impressed!

LD: It's interesting, I think Julien was saying this, being something through which some kids are learning some stuff. I usually am really upset when I'm misunderstood, but I think that part of that happening now is people on their way to understanding something that I think is important and outside of me, that we are just a case study for, and that is just a really sweet and special position to be in.

JB: This really gets to me, I'll see a group of friends all hugging during our set, a collection of songs about grieving and leaning on your friends. I'll be like, What did y'all go through? Something f*cking horrible.

I think about this with the credibility or the legitimacy of music, like with the whole Pitchfork incel guy, it goes back to that. I'm like, dude, I love that a bunch of kids are at our show. I've said it once, I'll say it again: I took a class in young adult literature. And I was like, wow, this is maybe the most important kind of literature. Paradise Lost is for people who think that their brain is big, young adult literature is for f*cking people who don't know what literature is yet — they need a window, they need a door. They need a pass. Phoebe you were saying, like, music that not-adult cis white guys like.

LD: Those guys are showing up too, and good for them. And if they're the ones that are mad about this, maybe they're on their path of understanding something better, too.

JB: I cry at all the kids, man.

PB: Me too.

JB: My mom texted me and was like, I would have died if there was something like y'all when I was a kid — and I don't even think she gets some stuff we're saying.

PB: It's funny to [realize] I would have bleached my hair and wanted to be me.

JB: Dude, it's so f*cking sick. I think about me at 16 — I was trying to be a hardcore guy, I wanted to get tattoos, I wanted to play guitar in a band. And then I just turned out… me. I used to try to make my hair look like k.d. Lang; I wonder if we're a thing people realize they can look like.

LD: Also, I think being affectionate on stage has been really fun and sweet, and it exhibits behavior that I think is healthy and good. That's another element of it that I think is good to show kids, the way that I think drag is actively good for kids to interact with, because it's this fun way to interact with gender and to explain things like that early to children is really awesome. Just being able to gaily and affectionately kiss your bros, that's a principle that I value, that I wish was more valued for kids. Not saying like, kids gotta go all make out!

I'm proud of the space we're taking up. I think we're using it in ways I'll be able to stand behind when I get older.

PB: There's also such a deep, both fetishizing and desexualizing of lesbians, in a way that I think is ridiculous. Obviously MUNA is standing staunchly against that as well, by being a f*cking boyband. It's just fun to be like, it's not that serious — and it also is deeply meaningful.

Well mostly I was rewatching the movie and wrote down "Kaiju = demons" and THEN it hit me that it's a neat way to add a supernatural element to the AU. As much as Iiked the idea of Eli being a figurative ghost in the machine, being a literal one allows for him to maybe take over Robbie’s body without somehow manipulating him to undergo an invasive brain surgery first 😂

And then @cicada-candy introduced me to LD+R's Sonnie's Edge, where people control monsters via neural links. Which a) slaps, b) made me think of introducing smaller, run-of-the-mill demons into the world. Which led to Amadeus studying the exposure. In PR Kaiju blue is basically a neurotoxin, but if I'm adding Marvel, why not get mutants on board? If you faff around with the corruption, 99.99% of the time you end up puking up your stomach lining, but maybe in some extremely rare occasions your immune system rewrites itself to accommodate some chance of a survival. It's extremely unscientific and drives the likes of Stark bananas.

Robbie has, at some point in his life, survived contact with the corruption. So has Eli. Robbie doesn’t remember that - his mother died in the same event, so he had other things going on - but that would be why he lived through drifting with a haunted jaeger while everyone else to make the attempt died pretty much immediately. He's still at a risk of becoming overwhelmed, but yeah, microdosing is the word - by continual exposure, he's building immunity to the corruption that binds Eli to The Charger. Eventually he will be strong enough for Eli to be able to invade without his body rejecting him, but neither of them know that yet. Maybe if Amadeus gets an opportunity to run those tests 🤔

The fight with Inferno in that bit I posted earlier today would've been like, their third together. Robbie is mostly distracted with trying to keep his head above the water and avoid admitting to anyone that he's hearing voices, while Eli begins to figure out his own abilities - and maybe some other voices he's hearing in the drift, too. Surviving the firestorm was as much a surprise to them as it was to anyone else 🔥

Lower Decks

I'm not gonna liveblog Lower Decks because I only liveblogged Picard to maintain my sanity as I endured it. It was more of a defense mechanism than a plan. The only reason I bring up LD is because I wanted to end the Picard thing on a more positive note. Lower Decks is a much better show, and I dare say watching Picard first made me enjoy the experience even more.

It's a comedic take on Star Trek, and the show could be forgiven for playing fast and loose with the premise, but it doesn't. Lower Decks feels like a very authentic Star Trek expereince, but it just has a comedic flavor to it.

It also does a whole lot of callbacks to old Star Trek lore. The difference is that LD isn't depending on the viewer to get all the callbacks. If you don't notice or recognize Spock Two's skeleton hanging in that display room on the collector's ship, it doesn't matter, because the plot doesn't hinge on it. LD also doesn't pull the Picard trick of making callbacks as an end unto itself, like Adam Soong holding a folder entitled "PROJECT KHAN" and nothing happens. Lower Decks has some running subplots, but it's very clear to its audience about which moments are clues and which moments are fun easter eggs.

Most critically, Lower Decks maintains the optimism of the classic 20th Century Star Trek shows. You watch an episode, and things usually work out by the end of it. More importantly, when people lose faith in the world they live in, there's some moment where that faith is restored. Starfleet stands for something and it's not just empty slogans or cynical public relations. It's not all sunshine and rainbows, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel and the characters generally find it. Except for Peanut Hamper. Fuck you, Peanut Hamper.

The fundamental conflict in the show is that these are all good people who strive to be better, to do better, and they tend to get in each other's way as they try to improve. Mariner defies her superiors because they doesn't always know best, but sometimes her superiors do know best. Boimler (and other characters) crave promotion and recognition, but he sometimes has to take a step back and consider why he wants those things. There's an episode where he joins a group of ambitious ensigns and they practice making inspiring leadership speeches, but he eventually realizes that it's a skill he can't use in the here and now. "We have to inspire the crew!" "We are the crew!"

The show demonstrates just how badly Picard fumbled the ball with its "everything sucks now" philosophy. In theory, you can do a utopia-gone-wrong story with Star Trek, but there needs to be a clear understanding of what went wrong and how it gets fixed. You can't just make a Star Trek story that flat out repudiates the optimistic future. You can just have the characters say "Whoops, that never worked!" That'd be like Batman deciding that crime is actually pretty cool. Shows like Picard try to convince the audience that the only way to tell a story is to break everything and make it miserable. Lower Decks proves that's a lie told by lazy showrunners who only know how to pull one lever.

Part of the problem, I think, is that these studios keep trying to do big events, relying on spectacle over storytelling. That's why Picard Season 2 had to climax with Picard's mother hanging herself. It has to be this big provocative moment, regardless of whether it makes sense or fits the characters. Picard has prophetic dreams of Data, the exploding girl looks just like the one from the old painting, it was the Borg the whole time, and by golly there sure are a lot of decapitations in this show.

By contrast, one of the most powerful moments on Lower Decks is when Captain Freeman finally gets fed up with Mariner and has her transferred to Starbase 80. It's not a big, apocalyptic moment that will Change The Marvel Universe Forever™, but it's effective, because the show took the time to establish that Starbase 80 is the worst assignment in Starfleet, and it's the one punishment Mariner takes seriously, and Freeman must be really upset if she's decided to take it that far. And then later, she regrets her decision, and when things work out in the end, their reconciliation is that much more satisfying. It just works. Not everything has to be a swordfight in a Borg Cube, for crying out loud.

I haven't watched Season 4 yet, but I'm really looking forward to seeing the new Vulcan character, T'Lyn on the show. Now we have two blueshirts in the cast. And they're not doctors or nurses! Nothing against doctors or nurses, but there's a severe lack of science division characters in Star Trek, and that screenshot of two of them doing something involving hydrogen samples is more exciting than a hundred Jack Crushers. I hope they do a whole episode about hydrogen samples. That would kick ass.

Ranking (bullying) LD Curtain's season 2 fashion choices

Because even if the show seems to have forgiven him, I sure haven’t. 

DISCLAIMER: This is in NO WAY criticizing the costume designers of this show- it couldn’t be farther from that. They’ve done an amazing job with every single piece in the show, and all of these fit Curtain’s personality and aesthetic perfectly. This is just me mocking the in-universe fashion choices that the character makes, because he needs to be bullied more. All lighthearted, all in good fun.

Okay, from least heinous to most heinous, here we go! 

First up:

As much as it pains me to admit this. I actually. Really like this one. (”And if you told me I would never say something like that, well, I would never say something like that, but here we are.”) I think the silhouette is interesting, and all of the pieces come together well. Plus, in some of the tighter shots you can see that the fabric texture and detailing is really cool:

The leaves as clasps and that crinkly texture kind of really slap, and I really love the way the collar sort of wraps into the placket.

Interview outfit:

Wow, look! Another one that doesn't inspire immediate feelings of rage! We're doing so well.

This one isn't as visually interesting as the first outfit, but I do sort of like it. The collar folds create kind of a cool shape, and the grey accents under the top is a nice little contrast. I don't know how I feel about the zipper right below the collar, it's kind of a weird choice and might look better if it wasn't so visible, but I'll let it slide for this one since we have a much more heinous zipper situation coming up later.

I like the contrasting shades of blue with the button up shirt, and the lavender shirt he wears under it later in the episode, and the fact that part of the collar can kind of fold down to make a different shape.

So the sleeves on this one are. kind of a lot. But they gain a couple of points for being the only thing in this outfit that really pops. They're sort of weird, but I can see the appeal of them standing out against the black vest, and being a pretty nice contrast that draws the eye.

On someone else I might like this outfit, but on him it just looks so dumb. He looks like he's about to go skydiving with how much he's buttoned up. It's somehow stupidly formal and stupidly casual at the same time, and I just think it's a very silly little outfit. He's joining the army as penance for his fashion crimes. We've arrived. We're finally here. The last one. The moment we've all been waiting for.

The worst of the worst:

I'll be honest, I don't really know where to start this one. There are too many things to choose from. Do I start with the weird asymmetrical pattern on the sleeves, with the red and blue stripes that aren't even made up of the same type of pattern?

Or maybe the fact that the buttons (and the piece of fabric they're attached to) ends too high above the neckline of the top layer?

Or we could talk about the fact that the top layer looks like one of those smocks you'd wear to get an x-ray at the dentist, made in a fabric that must have been rescued from the back of a fabric store after 50 years of not being bought.

I think by far the worst part is the length:

I've had this thought kinda just sitting in my head for a while but I was feeling to lazy to post about it but I kinda feel like this song

kinda fits/describes Peepers' character development/arc in the show

So basically the song how I interpret it is about a person who constantly bends over backwards and sucks up to someone to please them finally snapping and standing up for themselves

This heavily reminds me of Peepers his character development throughout the series when it came to his Dynamic(idk if that's the right term) with Lord Hater

In the beginning of season 1 Peepers can be seen basically sucking up and doing whatever he can to stay on Lord Hater's good side + in the beginning of season 1 Peepers was kinda scared of Lord Hater and didn't back talk him at all.

But as season 1 progresses Peepers gains more of a spine and stops sucking up to Lord Hater as much and starts actually talking back, a good example of his character development in Season 1 in my opinion is in the brain storm where Lord Hater and Peepers quite literally butt heads over which plan to use to conquer a planet, in the episode Peepers can been seen arguing with Lord Hater, an example of this is when near the end of the episode when Lord Hater and Peepers were going back and forth about various ways Wander and Sylvia could ruin their plan and in the end of this bit Peepers ends up snapping at Lord Hater where as Peepers at the beginning of the season probably would've been to scared to even think about talking back to Lord Hater. But despite this Peepers still kind of sucks up to Lord Hater during the beginning of the episode by discarding a plan when Lord Hater finds out a way Wander and Sylvia could ruin the plan.

In season 2 is where we start to see more of Peepers' character development and we start see him really define himself as a character and start taking less of Lord Hater's disrespect, for example in the greater hater when Hater sees all the cool weapons Lord Dominator has Lord Hater yells at Peepers basically blaming him for the fact that they don't have all the stuff LD has instead of apologizing and sucking up to Lord Hater like he would've done in season 1 he instead yells back at Lord Hater blaming him and explaining that they could've had all the cool stuff Dominator had if he didn't need(want) all the stuff he mentioned in his rant. This only one of the many times Peepers has shown this development in his character.

+as the series progresses and we as viewers see Lord Hater become more incompetent we see Peepers fear Lord Hater less and less, and by the time Lord Dominator comes in season 2 all that fear Peepers had towards Lord Hater in the beginning of season 1 is pretty much gone (+ he becomes pretty sick of lord Hater's bs when he's trying to date Dominator)

Quick summary: I believe the song the contortionist by Melanie Martinez describes Peepers' character arc because the song is about someone who's constantly kissing up and bending over backwards to please someone finally snapping. And this reminds me of Peepers because he goes from sucking up to Lord Hater and being low-key scared of him before he had finally enough of Lord Hater's bs and stopped sucking up to him and actually started standing up for himself

DC Character’s dating a scavenger who makes art out of the trinkets they find (Headcanons)

Got this idea since I’ve gotten into a new hobby, it’s basically just wandering around and picking up whatever I find cool that’s been abandoned and is free to take, and of course making cool sculptures/art pieces out of the stuff (cleaning it before I use it of course!)

Also just letting you know, these characters aren’t the only DC character I write for, I just wanted to do these specifically for this “prompt” :))

Characters: Bruce Wayne, Edward Nashton, Jonathan Crane, Harley Quinn

Warning: Slight violence, using R instead of y/n, Excited R (might seem childish but it’s just a person being really excited to do anything related to their interests/hobby), turned into R being just an nerd who’s basically an mechanic (which was not I tried to do but it’s what we got lol), this is really messy sorry

Bruce Wayne 

· He don’t really understand it, but would respect it and like the art you make.

· At first he’d be like, why not just buy the supplies and materials, he could pay for it if you couldn’t afford it

· But quickly would understand that you just like this process of getting the materials and finding the most random things

· He would think it’s so cool that you could come up with an entire art piece just by looking on some trinket you found by a trash can

· He lends you his tools if you ever work with metals and stuff

· He sets up your art with the rest of the other art in his home, so that means whenever someone’s over and they walk down a hallway they might see one of your works and start asking Bruce how much it cost to get it and which “weird” artist he got it from, but that only makes you laugh when you see him try to explain

“oohhhh” R ‘ooed’ as they snook up behind him, “what are you working on?” They asked as they leaned over his shoulder, Bruce looked up from the newest equipment he’s been working on and showed it to his love “it won’t work right” he said sighing “You got any tips on how I could make it better?” Bruce asked looking up at R, they stood still looking over the piece, thinking, “maybe if you turn that one over a little here and fix up the wireing it’ll work, it’s what I usually do when I’m working with ld lights but you know I’m not a mechanic ‘like you’” they smiled squeezing his shoulder as they stood up straight and got a chair to sit down in next to him, Bruce nodded but still gave it to them so they could work on it “still, I think you could fix it, you’ve done it before” he smirked at them as they started to adjust on his messy work. 

Edward Nashton 

· Loves it!

· He would give you the scraps he has left after he has made his puzzles so you could use it in your own artwork

· would most likely ask you to look over his own designs/works and would be open to any suggestions on how to make them better or just look cooler 

· You were probably the one who painted his jacket/logo

· He’ll show off your works to his followers and gush about how creative you are, if you’re okay with it that is · If his glasses ever broke you could probably fix them pretty easily, like if the glass part broke you probably had extras laying around to replace the broken ones or if the frames broke you could just make new one or piece it together again

· He’ll laugh if the Batman finds one of your signature works thinking it has something to do with the riddler

“what is it love bug?” Ed asked as he put down his tools and looked away from the puzzle he was building, R smiled as they showed him what they had been hiding behind their back “it’s for you!” They said smiling as they showed a question mark neon green light they made themselves, Edward teared up a little when he saw it “I love it! Oh gosh I gotta set it up and show it to my followers!” he said as he pulled his partner into a hug “I hope they like it as you do” they laughed a little “i bet they’ll do” he whispered as he tightened the hug.

Jonathan Crane 

· He would absolutely adore your little art pieces!

· He finds it so cool that you could make something out of random things you just found on the ground

· Would give you cool things he stumbled upon when he’s out, like maybe a cool piece of fabric or metal, or maybe just a really cool looking rock :D

· He’s quite the artist himself (have you seen his art skills!? Like come on!) so he probably loves just sitting next to you drawing while you work on your treasures

· If you ever made a Scarecrow doll/sculpture he would just adore it and wouldn’t stop complimenting it!

· And if you ever made him jewelry with the things you’ve found he would never EVER take it off and would cherish it as if it was the world 

· He can easily get startled when you use your loud tools to work on your artwork’s, like the fire gun for the metals or the sewing machine 

“Jonathan!” R ran up to their boyfriend “Jonathan look!” They held out their hands showing their boyfriend what they had found, Jonathan looked into their hand a smile creeping up on his face “what is it?” He asked looking back up at their smiling face “it’s a music box“ they giggled as they moved the broken music box closer to Jonathan’s face “look it still spins” they said as they wind up the box, it started to play a distorted song as the little flower figure in it started to slowly spin in a circle, R looked up from the music box and onto Jonathan with a smile still plastered on their face “Cool! Where did you find it?” He asked smiling at his significant other “oh! I found this really good place, come and I’ll show you” they quickly said as they grabbed his hand to show him their new favorite place for finding trinkets.

Harley Quinn 

· We all know she’s the type of person that would do the exact same thing lol

· Most of the things she owes she has made herself by scraps she found on the street (or stole)

· If she EVER heard someone insult your art she would break the persons hand/fingers and tell them to apologize

· You guys sit around listening to music and making art together when you have free time and she absolutely loves it, one of her favorite pastimes 

· She’ll let you work on her weapons if you wanted too · Has stolen a lot of stuff for you to use but not telling you that she stole it

· She’ll give names to everyone single one of your sculptures, for example “bob” or “Kim” or maybe even a “Sharkboy the second” (idfk)

Harleen and her significant other was taking a walk by a circus when her partner suddenly stopped, “what is it hon?” Harley asked turning towards R who was crouching down picking up something, as they stood up they had a big smile on their face “look it’s one of those cool mirrors they have at the circus!” They said excitedly showing off the mirror that had this diamond affect “Woah that’s so cool, u gonna keep it?” Harley laughed as R nodded and grabbed her hand to keep going on their walk.

Day 19: My Heart Beats 'Till Overdrive @arcvmonth

I really like Yugo. He has such a likable and fun personality that it makes him really endearing and fun to watch. It's funny to think back to Yuto's flashback where he first encountered Yugo. A lot of fans thought that he'd be a more serious character, but then he gets mad at a pole for being in his way and yelled at people to stop being unconscious after he defeats them in a duel. It's just kind of funny how he turned into more of a lovable goofball kind of character instead. He has some good running gags with his name and mixing up Rin with Yuzu and Serena. Even the latter does a good job in showing how much he really misses Rin too. While he doesn't get to interact with a lot of the cast for most of the series, I really liked his relationship with Yuzu. They had solid chemistry and felt like fast friends. Yugo crying when he thought that Yuzu was dead was really touching and showed how much he cared about her too. Yugo had some pretty solid and memorable duels throughout the series too. His match against Sawatari was just fun and having Yuya and Yugo sync up together for the first time was really cool too. His duel against Serena was great and allowed her to understand Yuya's ideals more after enjoying a duel that she still ultimately lost. His duel against Rin was emotional and quite surprising too.

Of course, his rivalry and interactions with Yuri led to some really great and funny moments. Yugo can be hotheaded and has a bit of a one track mind, to the point where he doesn't really factor in anything or anyone else around him. Choosing to fight Yuri at Academia instead of going to look for Rin with Ed made sense with his personality in mind. This is the same person who was so caught up in fighting Yuto that he didn't really register that Yuya was there until well after the fact, completely abandoned the Friendship Cup once he saw Yuri and didn't really attempt to help Serena once he got a chance to face Yuri as well. After all of his attempts to get Yuri back for kidnapping Rin, Yugo wouldn't want to let him go again. He was too focused on defeating his opponent to where that became more of a priority, even over saving Rin himself, which does sound a lot like Zarc in a sense. It was still sad to see Yugo lose to Yuri, but there was really no other way their duel could have ended. They had already hyped up Yuri a lot and they definitely wanted Yuya vs. Yuri to happen.

While I think that Yuya and Yugo could have clicked well with each other, I think it was a smart move to keep them separated until the last stretch of the series. I don't think that their dragons fighting each other in the third opening theme necessarily meant that they originally planned for them to duel. We've had misleading openings/endings in the franchise before and the second Arc V opening had that LDS missile too. Given that the Dragon Boys duel each other most of the time they come across each other and the defeated one is absorbed, I don't think it would have worked out well for them. If they had dueled in the Friendship Cup, then regardless of who would have won, they would have become 75% Zarc. Yuya already had a difficult time being 50% Zarc for most of the series. I think Zarc being so close to reviving would have made things extremely worse for everyone. I think that their personalities could have bounced nicely off of each other and their shared friendship with Yuzu could have been a way for them to bond as well, but I don't think that would have mattered given that whoever lost their duel would have been absorbed by the other. Yuya and Yuto were eventually able to connect with each other, but losing to Yugo still led to Yuto merging with Yuya too. While I wouldn't consider Duel Links canon to the anime for a few reasons, it is nice to see being able to interact in that game.

So many Mormons I've come across seem to follow my (agnostic/atheist) understanding of Christ and his beliefs and it genuinely makes me reconsider my own beliefs. Definitely gonna have to read that Queer Mormon Theology thing. Also if you haven't already come across him I recommend Dan McClennan's content on TikTok and his academic work!

That's so cool that you're finding like-minded people! I think there is honestly a lot of diversity of thought among members of the LDS church, more than the general populatjon would have you believe. But there are quite a few with more progressive mindsets, so if you wanna see that version of Mormonism by all means read Queer Mormon Theology! That book goes into some of the more unique aspects of the LDS church, so it's not exactly meant as an intro but I think that makes it even better.

And yeah!! I follow Dan on tiktok, he's pretty cool. We need more academic theologians in religious conversations I think. I like his stuff.

SPOILERS for Sniper: GRIT! this was my live-cap for my bestie so forgive any rambling or shorthand lol posting for anyone who wants to squeal with me over yet another AMAZING movie!

zero is kinda miffed brandon made friends with his ex wife's husband lol. definitely some bro squabbling there but i love them both so much. ryan's a bit too caveman on the beard but they're both so hot lol. they have a new high tech bunker lol. i love how zero says he didn't know they thought LD was dead lol. the cult is basically similar to the one in iron man 3, that's how i see it. MAJOR show of muscles from both guys omg they make me wanna faint! zero's doing pretty good at taking people out after the last movie, i give him props. alot of the locations we saw in chad's video during filming. I love zero's way with languages, that's definitely his thing. damn brandon shot 2 at once! niice! LD thinks the dr is a nice guy but he's soo not. he sewed a tracker into her bullet wound. ok luna as LD - not completely as skilled as sayaka, she's more of a jujitsu leg kinda girl whereas sayaka was great with hand to hand. but luna is really good at aiming a gun & knife so we'll go with her. not sure if sayaka recommended her or not since there's no interviews. I think sayaka brought more humor to her version of LD, very on point. but luna's a bit more laid back. not bad just different. like steve & billy different as jase on GH. i like how we're getting a bit more focus on zero & how he cares about LD almost as a daughter. hehehe zero hid in the jeep cuz he didn't trust creepy dr. he called pete to track since their new techie wouldn't do it lol. 2nd baddie is LD's dad!! holy ninja!! ok luna's LD is REALLY good aim & the drama. he basically sold her off into being an assassin as a kid. how is that costa lady alive after brandon shot her?! how does that happen! even though the effects seem smaller budget it's still got the same action & humor, i love it! hehehe i love the part where they throw their phones up & shoot em, so cool! hehe the boys squabbling over the bad clothes. aww he got brandon a pair of sunglasses hehehe. pete found a new orange soda he loves lol. oh goddamn brandon laying on the car with his rifle mmm. they just realized they have to dig the tracker out of her wound OUCH!! ok that scene is cringey!!! mmm them all getting ready for a fight. all 3 shot the hitman tracking LD WOW! hehehe the colonel & pete make me laugh. I think the father wants LD dead cuz she tried to kill him first for turning her into an assassin? bit confusing there. ok seriously neither zero or brandon can break out of zipties with those muscles? yea right lol. zero getting all mad at her dad trash talking her, love it! oh here we go with the allout shootout with everyone! this entire scene rocks! brandon's got great skills as usual & zero's just freakin done with nonsense lol. LD going grappling & knife on the baddies, you go girl! aww pete! he took shots at LD's dad to get out of the compound. poor pete but he did really good! zero takes out half the goons with an uzi and gets so caught up in it lol. they all just look at him like are you ok. & when LD's dad is on trial of course she takes the killshot. not my alltime favorite of the series (ya’ll know that’s Rogue & Assassin’s End) & not as much of brandon's sniper skills this time which made me a bit sad but I like how every one of these movies shares each character's story equally and gives each of them awesome stuff. can't wait for another!! & oh damn as if i didn't like it enough ryan did the music for that big take down in the middle, i thought i knew his voice!!!!!!!
