Legacies 1x03 Rewatch

Haven't even made it past the Previously On ... and I'm already rolling my eyes at Alaric's speech to Hope. Like how did the writers think yes, let's sprinkle this all in so heavy handed but next season, when it's his blood daughter doing all that and more, let's have him sit silently and coddle her and force her murder victims to be nice. The character assassination -

I can't be the only one who does not give a fuck about the flashbacks over the season. Like not a single one is memorable except the Ben/Jen ones. I forget they exist and I really don't care.

My chain spell potential. Wasted.

No but why is Lizzie actually so nice to Penelope in the beginning?? Like last episode, she's willing to go along with Penelope's ideas and this episode, of all the people in the room, she's the one to say why Penelope's absent? I know Josie said she used to have a crush on Penelope but GIRL GET UP.

"If it pleases the court." Is this and 4x12 foreshadowing Lawyer!Lizzie? Because if so, I'm down for it.

"If anyone should take the blame, it's Josie." "WhAt?" I mean, look. Did Lizzie need to point it out? No. Bitch move. But it literally is because of Josie. How is she gonna stand there and pretend like it wasn't.

"I promise I'm not gonna betray you by being friends with Hope (who I made you believe hated you and did some fucked up things to you)." The very next morning:

"You only play by the grown-up rules when you don't need something from me." Get him again Hope!

"Baby, I'm a loser, yeah, yeah, yeah." as Lizzie stares at Hope's ass. I can read between the lines.

"Litter, weeds, graffiti." And then they immediately forget about weeds. Like they split into two groups and not a soul went to weed??

"I love trash. As of this moment." "Your sister's kind of a dumpster fire." HOPE. I SEE YOU. I SEE RIGHT THROUGH YOU.

"Daddy's girls." Said the pot to the kettle.

"You run, I run. Period." BRING RAFAEL BACK TO ME ALREADY. THE JOKE ISN'T FUNNY ANYMORE.

"She hates me, doesn't she?" "I don't want him to hate me." Tethered.

As much as I hated it, I miss Kaleb's stance on supernatural-human relations. I hate that it just went away. It made him into a villain-like character, but damn it, it was interesting. Why did Legacies let all their interesting plots go in favor of "immortal man dies again" "the girl who grieved grieves again" "girl who ran runs again"??? I would have rather seen Kaleb start a small sect of students who believed in his idea that supernaturals were better than humans than listen to Josie whine about how she wants to leave again because people don't like that she murdered them for a season and a half.

No because fuck MG and Connor for that one. I will never understand the absurd Lizzie hate in S1. It reads like a bad fanfic where they layer on the abuse to set the tone but it also is wildly unrealistic and not based on anything.

PEDRO! (Side note: Had a dream last night where J*lie appeared to tell me there was a spin off about Pedro coming and I just told her everything she did wrong)

Enough time has passed. Emma and Alaric should've ended up together.

"Hope and Josie are all sisters in solidarity." Baby, just say your crush is picking trash with someone else.

"She has a point." This is gonna be a real controversial opinion here but I think Emma was more of a mother figure to Lizzie than Caroline was.

"People disappoint." "When I let my guard down, people disappoint." How did I not see what they were setting up from the beginning.

Lizzie sacrificing herself for all of Mystic Falls who had done nothing but treat her like shit really get glossed over

"We've known each other over a decade and anytime you get the chance, you poke." Maybe because you've been spreading rumors about her and bullying her since you were eleven?? She heard that shit??? God, I can't stand Josie's fake innocent act.

"I can heal it." BUT YOU CAN'T HEAL THAT BEAUTY OF A SHOE HOPE.

"Sir, we've already taken your money twice." Landon's so soft.

"I just think that that's making me a little bit nauseous." It's called jealousy.

"MG has the impulse control of a pre-schooler." That's such a nasty thing to say about your "best friend" who has diagnosed ADHD?? Open a fucking book.

"He also always goes for the wrong girls." Yeah, you're gonna tell me that wasn't a shot at Lizzie? The one girl MG goes for repeatedly??

"Lizzie has dibs" and mind you Lizzie just arbitrarily decided to try and crush on him

"She always has dibs." So is it canon that Lizzie called dibs on Penelope then?

"Lizzie's sensitive." IF I SPEAK -

"That's why she's extra testy lately." No I'm pretty sure that's because in the last 48 hours, she's been assaulted several times, you've been lying to and gaslighting her, and her father's been a giant hypocrite. But sure. She's not there to defend herself, so keep going.

Josie feels it when Lizzie is attacked by monsters but not when she uses black magic?

Dana and Penelope would have been best friends and she should've been in the Dana x Josie AU.

Standing there silently while Kaleb talks all sort of misogynistic shit on Lizzie. Ooh if I could reach through a screen -

No because Rafael losing Cassie and Hope losing Landon at the same time would have hit hard. And what if I just rewrite Legacies myself? Like damn.

I love that they just leave Lizzie on the floor. Like not a soul even holding her hand as she whimpers in pain. Wow.

Alaric jumps in front of Hope like she wouldn't just wake up a Tribrid if the gargoyle had got her. You're telling me this man was ready to die if his research was wrong just so she could stay human?? I'm not buying it.

"Me being the evil one in this scenario?" and I know she was flashing back to eleven years old hearing Josie make all the witches laugh at her for being a villain

"These secrets are gonna tear us apart." If only she knew.

"In their minds, we're the villains because we won't give them what they want. We don't even know why they want it." Oh the Dark!Josie foreshadowing.

Me, trying to listen while also trying to jam out to Raign.

"I had the kitchen make these. Your favorite. Brownies." "Someone else's baked goods?" Oh Hope was throwing shots and I didn't even know yet.

Also Lizzie's favorite isn't brownies. It's key lime pie. She says so later in the season. Get it to-fucking-gether, MG.

No because Dana running into the Salvatore School to deface it, finding out about the supernatural, and turning THAT into a plot would have hit so good.

No because you know what? My first watch of legacies I thought it was Hosie all the way but now im watching again and NO ONE gets Hope like Lizzie. No one understands her grief, her feelings, not being able to stay in control, and feeling used and manipulated and “handled” by everyone around her. She GETS it. How was I blind the WHOLE PREVIOUS THREE SEASONS

finally doing a f\ull legacies rewatch and getting to mid season 2 (on 2.07 right now) and i’m not saying josie isn’t responsible for her own actions but GOD it is not hard to see how she falls into the dark josie arc based on the events of last season and ESPECIALLY this seven episodes like. she and her family have been put in danger a lot more than has ever been an issue and then she finds out that she and her sister are cursed with an expiration date because one of them is going to have to ‘absorb’ the other one by the age of 22, the ex that she has a complicated relationship with but seems to be one of the only people who really knows/cares what she wants (not saying that’s true but probably feels like it for a little while at least), being told by her new headmaster that her father doesn’t have her best interest at heart and being manipulated, feeling he’s the only one she can turn to when the effects of dark magic are taking their toll, and finding comfort in her new relationship with landon only to feel used (even though of course it’s no one’s fault) and like a second choice once everyone remembers hope and it becomes clear he’s still in love with her, and having to do something she’s established to be extremely afraid of (break the sand clock and absorb all that dark magic) just to save her family and get back home and out of the prison world? like... it’s clear that she simply reached her emotional breaking point and combined with the variable of immense amounts of dark magic, it had disastrous results. i’m not saying her actions as dark!josie were justified or that she’s not responsible for them, but it’s NOT hard to see how she got there.

Ezra didn’t even make it an hour into his first night with the Noti before he felt the walls closing in on him, the darkness crushing his windpipe. It wasn’t that the sleeping compartments were small— they were, but if there was one thing Ezra was good at, it was making do with cramped spaces. The problem, he thought, was the opposite. This small, dark room with incomprehensibly friendly beings resting on the other side of its walls was the safest place he’d been since he’d stepped on the gunship that took him to the Imperial complex. It was the first safe place he’d been in weeks. 

The first place that gave him time and room to consider the enormity of what he’d done. 

It came at him all at once, all that terror and all that hopelessness, and he had to get out, had to see something other than the crushing reality closing in on him— 

He stood before even really making the decision to and scrambled out of the sleeping compartment, doing his best to step softly for his new roommates even as he staggered madly for the door, bursting into the dry, open air. He shut the door behind him, as carefully as he could with shaking fingers, and turned his face to the night sky. To the stars that, for the first time in his life, were entirely unfamiliar. 

He squeezed his eyes shut.

I want to go home.

The wish was childish, and selfish, but he could no longer push it aside. It ached in every part of him, stabbing him with every breath, and the image the words brought to mind was enough to make his eyes sting with tears. He squeezed them tighter— and the image shifted. It was no longer Lothal as he remembered it, dusty grasslands and dark domes, but Lothal as he had seen it in a vision on a dark, all-but-hopeless night much like this one. 

It’s so peaceful, he had said, and the specter of his father beside him had replied, that is all going to change when the Empire arrives. 

Would it change back now, he wondered? Had his sacrifice been enough to take the darkness of the Empire out of the picture, to return Lothal to blue skies and white towers? Would he ever get the chance to find out?

And then he heard the words his father had said next, as clearly as if Ephraim Bridger was standing next to him again. You’re going to need to stay strong. Can you do that, son?

Yes, Ezra had answered then. Even reeling from knowledge that his parents were truly lost forever, he hadn’t hesitated. Perhaps he would have if he’d known what was coming next: that he would see his home razed to the ground and his Master burned to ashes before his eyes, that Lothal’s best hope would be for him to fling himself beyond any sense of familiarity or family with only the slimmest chance of his return. 

He would need to stay strong, if there was any chance of Sabine finding him as the friend she’d loved. But what if he faced life here, day after day after day, and she never came? What if she burned like Kanan had and he never knew? If this was where his strength had gotten him, what good was it?

Without hope, his mother had told him, standing on his other side in that vision of a peaceful Lothal, we have nothing. 

Ezra had no parents, no Master, no family in this galaxy and no way home. He could give up hope— and then he would truly be lost.

Sabine would find him. She would. And he would be waiting for her when she did.

He took a deep breath, and then another.

“Yes,” he told his father again.

And he opened his eyes.

The Dryad, I've missed her

I actually love how they show the evolution of the school with stuff like adapting to monsters and giving the students a voice

No because who takes over Raf's spot on the Honor Council when he dies

Watching Rafael and Jed spar makes me realize that Finch never got to meet Rafael. What a wasted opportunity.

Josie using her father and her sister almost dying since Landon arrived as an excuse to kick him out is kind of funny when you remember that later she kills her sister and doesn't care when her father stuck in a coma and on his death bed.

"This school is family." Guess nobody there can like each other now

That's TWO magical trees in the Legacies universe now ...

"What did I ever do to make you hate me so much?" No because one day I will write an essay on how all of Josie's love interests end up hating Lizzie for no reason and/or misinformed reasons and there's one common denominator.

"It's not about you. It's about how you treat Josie." Is that not literally about her. Like if your problem is that she doesn't exist solely to serve Josie, isn't that having a problem with her??

"Did you think to ask her if she wanted to run for council before you assumed you'd win?" DID YOU?? BECAUSE THAT GIRL LOOKED LIKE SHE WANTED TO DIE AS SOON AS SHE HAD TO MAKE A DECISION ON THE SPOT LIKE THAT.

The irony in Penelope telling Lizzie that she's left Josie with no room for herself when it's actually the opposite way around. Like real quick Miss Park, which one of them are you telling that they can't pursue their interests because the other twin might want it too?

I will never understand why Penelope acted like Lizzie and Josie couldn't both run for council. It was an open election. All she had to do was put her name in.

"She spends all her energy taking care of you." To recap in the past four episodes she has spent her energy trying to win over Rafael, trying to convince everyone to hate Penelope and not talk about her, trying to get offensive magic put into the school curriculum, trying to get everyone to lose the football game, and trying to drive a deeper wedge between Hope and Lizzie during community service. Now which part of that is taking care of Lizzie?

"You are a black hole of time and energy and love." Is the time and energy and love in the room with us right now?

"She won't ever burn you world down." The foreshadowing to her literally burning the school down ...

Every day I wish Penelope would have been around to see Josie in her black lipstick era.

No because what happened to pretty shots like the Handon kiss? When did TV shows stop caring about cinematic beauty and nicely lit shots and fantastic coloring??

"I have a family friend who's expecting you." The fact that we never see Landon with the Mikaelson family friend ...

Every time I see Raf and Lizzie's scene, I think about that post about how lesbians use hetero sex as a form of self harm and there has never been a better example to exist in all of history. Like what part of being told that you're the worst person in the world makes you horny??

Also Lizzie Saltzman kiss a guy without crying challenge. Like sweetie if you're crying every time you have to kiss them, maybe it's for a reason.

Every time I hear Someone to You on the radio I get chills because of this episode

I think it’s funny that golem!Landon is Hope’s “ideal” like all of her perfected memories of him, and he’s the only Landon type that includes her as a wolf, not just “ohoho powerful tribrid girlfriend” like a lot of people wash Hope as a witch only. They don’t take into account her Wolf side either which is such an important part of her (especially since it’s her main link to Hailey). Idk I think that Golem!Landon recognizing that part of her and encouraging it just shows that Hope wishes that part of her was recognized more. Also the show is super selective with WHEN they want Hope to have Wolf powers, like at Miss Mystic Falls when she was dancing and she asked Roman to tell her what the twins were arguing about, but she’s a wolf so she should’ve been able to hear it. Anyway…
