"Durge came back different", "Durge didn't really come back", "the person who Durge originally was is dead" are all good takes, but what if.
If Durge came back exactly as they were? The brain damage, additional trauma and memory loss are the big altering factors, but underneath that it's still them.
They didn't change drastically, their former self is not dead.
How about one single fragile mortal soul still keeping a hold on itself, how about Durge who was never allowed anything for themselves still retaining them.
How about Durge who has lost everything: power, memories, purpose, sense of self, still being themselves, despite it all.
How about not even Orin's daggers, tadpole and Bhaal combined being able to rob them of their core? How about all of that just revealed who Durge has always been underneath all those expectations Father dearest put on them?
How about: "After all this time, it's still you."

actually so fascinating to me to see the difference in reaction in this fandom. the same people who were perfectly content to spread leaked information without the consent of the victim in previous situations playing coy and claiming that any speculation (not accusations, not harassment, not attempts to deplatform) into the identity of the person in question is inherently unethical and disrespectful to the victim. the same people who had shamelessly talked about the need to spread about information sourced from third party actors with personal agendas, who had explicitly gathered the information in question for bad faith purposes, in order to demand answers from a man who wasn't even the target of said allegations now preaching about how awful it is for people to use publicly available, easily accesible information to come to personal conclusions about a content creator in order to then make the decision whether or not to support him. i know that this fandom was a very different place in january 2022 but i highly doubt that time is the only thing that influenced the difference in people's reactions here, tbh.

Also the reason I write Gortash so obsessed with Durge and literally holding them above everyone else is because
Imagine: You meet a child of god. A child of cruel and evil god who is an awful murderer. Killing is their Sole Purpose, the reason why they were even created.
And that person one day REFUSES their father, their GOD. Why? Because of you. A child of god defies a god for you. They are made for killing but refuse to kill YOU when their god commands them to.
They get betrayed and disgraced because of you. You think they're dead. BECAUSE they chose you over everything else.
And then they return and alright, the memory is lost, but it's still them. You know it's them.
Like imagine the power trip Gortash had to have upon the revelation what Durge disobeyed their god for HIM.
Of course he'd be obsessed. The child of god said only he matters.

I suppose you receive like... a lot of love confession messages as a celebrity from random people. Do you keep these messages? Did anyone ever include gifts like chocolate or something eatable? If so, do you eat them or you'd rather be cautious? Someone might have poisoned it.
I'm popular enough. If it's good for Survey Corps funding, then I put up with most of it... But it's the cause of many awkward situations I end up in. Mostly from random strangers. Even though they think they're being genuine, someone who knows me as far as what I look like riding my horse has no idea what they're thinking when they give me things.
If it's chocolate or something... I let Hange have at it. Sasha sucks up anything edible put in front of her. I share the poetry with Erwin... I have a scrapbook of dried flowers that has personal meaning for me, so if it's flowers, I'll keep some of them. Watching them die otherwise is depressing. Sometimes the gifts are something I find use for, though.
The first couple of edible gifts I got might as well have been tampered with or something... But I figured out the flattery is meant to, flatter me, and it's a waste of food otherwise.
It's all annoying to an extent, but I appreciate people who give me something, even if I have no use for it. It's not like they want to offend me.

I feel like some of yall who talk about polyamory dont actually know what "bringing another person into our relationship" actually means cause it is so much more complicated than that and includes alot more than just one person dating more people.
Heres your image: person a and person b are in a relationship while person c is dating person a with everyone's knowing consent.
That is not bringing someone "into your relationship" because person c has no influence on the relationship between person a and person b. They dont have any chips on the table. They dont have any say in their long term decisions such as children, marriage or moving situations. Person c may know about it and it may affect them to a mild degree but they dont have any say in that relationship.
Next image: person a and person b are in a relationship while person c is dating both person a and person b with everyone's knowing consent.
This is also not " bringing someone into your relationship" as the relationship between person a and person c as well as the relationship between person b and person c dose not interact with the relationship between person a and person b. These can still be 3 different relationships and person c still dosent have a say in what person a and person b decide.
Imagine this relationship as three pegs sticking out of a piece of wood with a rubber band wrapped between each peg. Although there are places where the rubber bands attacted to peg/person c do just barely touch the rubber band between peg/person a and peg/person b, peg/person c still isnt in that rubber band. They are still excluded.
The only time your genuinely "bringing someone into the relationship" is when you get rid of all the little rubber bands and wrap all three pegs/people in one big rubber band. This means that person c dose have a say in what happens and although there still are remininets of the other rubber bands that binded each person to one other person, all persons are mostly dependent and loving towards the big rubber band that binds them all together as 3 instead of 2+.
So yes, there is a difference between both members of a couple dating the same person and bringing someone in your existing relationship to become 3. Yes you can still have the little things that only exist between 2 partners but the main relationship is 3 people. Your a throuple, not just 2 people dating the same third person.
I know its kinda complicated but theres a difference in my opinion between seeing yourself as dating 2 people seperately and being all together as a throuple.

god i forgot how fuckin cathartic/painful the end of htn is as someone who grew up very christian and that counts from harrow AND gideon's povs. you spent your entire life (serving god/trying to run from him) and in the end it turns out he's just some asshole with too much power who's been alive for too long. yes, god is powerful, but you have power over him by virtue of being a real fucking person, which is something he could only ever dream of. you were right- god is a fucking asshole and we're going to kill him. god is your parent and you'll watch him be eviscerated in front of you. god would let his best friends watch the only people they loved die and pretend it was necessary for ten thousand years. god killed an entire planet for you to stand where you stand today. you are the undoing of god. etc etc

erwin will always be my son, he is just so compelling. people are always saying that he should have survived, he wouldn't let xyz happen, he got snubbed and all i can say is that you know nothing... if he survived a) his character wouldn't make sense b) the tragedy and pathos that define him would have been severely undercut and c) it just would suck narratively because he literally died seconds before everything went to shit
