thinking about how people arguing about rory and jess doesn’t have a “you jump, i jump” moment but like. have you ever been 17 and a guy bought your home made basket for $90 and sat with you on a bridge by the lake, look into your eyes and told you “you know, ernest only has lovely things to say about you”? because tbh, it changes everything.

Oh wow Henderson/Martha as bad end Twiyor. Henderson so focused on his ideals, on conquering ignorance, that he doesn't look at what's in front of him. "Ignorance is a sin", "they wouldn't do this if they were educated correctly". Those ideas taking precedence over any kind of personal life for both Twilight and Henderson. And so Henderson and Martha miss their chance because Henderson is so caught up in his own cause and Martha doesn't recognise her own feelings for what they are. Just as how Twilight is so focused on his mission that he deliberately tries to clamp down on his own connections with others and sees them as a weakness. As he too could miss his chance and leave one day without warning.
It's not technically the end of either of their stories. But the parallels at present read as very deliberate.

the thing about post-rose ten is he IS casually cruel. he tells donna to her face that she's not clever, not special, not important - and gets slapped for it, which to my mind is kinda the reason the doctor-donna relationship works. he tells martha's coworker not to waste his time, to stay behind, she'll only hold them up. leaves her crying. and like, devoting his energy to the problem at hand (the hospital is on the moon, there's an alien situation going on, everyone here and possibly everyone on earth is at risk) is the practical move at the time. but there's an obvious casual cruelty to it that he wouldn't have stooped to before.
and I'm just reminded of the way donna forgot all her loudness and bluff and immediately snapped to empathy when there were people hurt. you're a doctor, you can help. I remember her watching in horror as the doctor presided over the execution of children and the destruction of a species - and telling him he can stop now. I remember her saying that yeah, her ex-fiance, the man who poisoned her and used her and secretly looked down on her all this time, he didn't deserve to die like he did, which is a pretty big admission given the freshness of that betrayal. she has a good heart. and I can see why she would be good for this new, cruel, forgotten-his-kindness-in-all-his-pain doctor.
and I'm just so, so sorry that martha had to know this version of him in the meantime.

Was reading some of the yj comics and got to the part where Kon revealed he had a wife and she was holding a baby with dark curly hair and when I tell you that I just about lost my mind alongside Bart bc where did this baby come from???
ah yj19... yes that was one hell of a red herring skjdfh but also genuinely if i think too hard about kon, lophi, and babymartha i will lose my mind. lophi felt so strongly about kon that she let him suggest (and ultimately went with) the name of his (grand)mother for her child. her husband was murdered and this other man showed up and said hey i'll look out for you and the baby because it's the right thing to do and she let him pick the name for that child. there was love in this house. there was LOVE in this house BENDIS. YOU CAN'T JUST ABANDON THEM OR ACT LIKE KON WOULD ABANDON THEM AT THE DROP OF A HAT LIKE THIS???? BENDIS WHAT WAS THIS SUPPOSED TO BE??? BENDIS THERE WAS SO MUCH LOVE IN THIS HOUSE WHAT THE FUCK

There is something so reassuring when you see that someone made a post or a youtube video about a very niche not at all popular cartoon that for some reason you watched all the time as a kid because your country aired it all the time for some reason and you have so many vivid memories of it and thought everyone else also knows it but you had never seen anyone talk about it ever online. Like, THANK GOD, I didn't just hallucinate or dream this cartoon. That WAS a real show that aired!!! YES, pleaseeee talk about the lore!! And yes, every kids media deserves attention and appreciation, not just *instert whatever cartoon that is popular today*. The weird, obscure or forgotten ones deserve love too. Even if they were bad. Ohhh they definitely were kinda bad sometimes. But also like good, you know?

Ten makes inside jokes that no one but Rose could have the slightest chance of getting. Amazing. Stellar. 10/10. This was supposed to be funny but now I’m just sad

@alltheladiesyouhate admittedly i haven't rewatched the moffat seasons as much as i have the rtd ones but the biggest difference i think that the rtd companions actually had lives. the opening sequence of the renewed show was rose and her going about her day. we learned more about her in the first 10 minutes of that one episode than we do amy and clara all of their seasons. same with martha in smith and jones. and donna partners in crime. we know these people's families and and interpersonal dynamics and get to know them as people seperate to the doctor. meanwhile moffat era companions are only people in relation to who they are to the doctor. moffat is so obsessed with mysteries and 'don't you want to keep watching to know what this is about' that he neglects to make characters compelling without that information. moffat cannot make a scene like the one in marthas brothers birthday party where the entire family starts arguing moments before martha reunites with the doctor.

there’s a progression in there, somewhere, of even going from ‘the master might kill me any day now :(‘ to ‘the master is going to kill me :) she’s not going to let someone else do it after all this time’
#i wouldn’t call it hubris exactly. more like this pretty secure surity that that’s how they’re going to die.#and to them that makes sense. they chose this. they keep choosing it after the doctor offers them a way out.#because this is. they understand this. and they feel safe in the reprieve before their death.#how do you control death? choose who kills you. the last defense of a prey animal.#something something dark mirror to clara’s ‘i am owed’ speech for even is if this ever. doesn’t work out the way they thought it would.#clara tried to threaten the doctor so that he’d reverse death for her. even would turn on the master if she tried to spare them.#i am owed better. i am owed the death you promised… i am owed the knowledge that you don’t care enough to save me… you know. something like#that.#even is. kind of. meant to mirror the doctor’s companions at the time. they are a martha who can’t leave him. they are a donna who has to#remember and never speak about everything they know. they are clara if during deep breath clara reached back and truly didn’t expect. truly#hoped. that no one would take her hand. because if they can be certain it will happen they can know never to reach again.#jesus christ. go to therapy boy. you have so many trust issues.#but that’s why they’re Like That with the master because at the end of the day. who is easier to rely on? the guy who comes in to put out#fires but only sometimes. or the guy who. really really fucking likes starting fires.#better to get burned hoping someone is coming or get burned knowing that’s what would happen. and even. chooses the latter.#AND ALL OF THIS. for me to say thats why i cant actually let the master ever kill them.#i think she needs to do something worse to even. i think she needs to abandon them.#and that will either set them free to go have healthy normal relationships or. lets be honest much more likely. completely fucking break#them. which would be fun :) for me.#dw oc

the man who falls – secret origins (1989)
[ID: Two cropped comic pages of Bruce Wayne as a child after falling into a cave and being ambushed by a swarm of bats. There's multiple narration boxes over the pages:
Page One: a three panel sequence of Bruce being rescued by his father. In the first panel, Bruce is screaming with his eyes squeezed shut in fear. He has his fists clenched in front of him and is wearing a reddish pink turtleneck sweater. The narration says, ‘Again, he shrieked — not in terror, but in despair...’ In the second panel, Thomas Wayne is shown from behind in a low angle. He's wearing a red sweater similar to Bruce and is holding a flashlight as he jerks Bruce into him. Above them is bats surrounding them and the broken wood floors that Bruce fell through. The narration continues, ‘The arm curled around him, muffling his voice, and his cheek rubbed against the rough wool of his father's jacket... He squeezed his eyes shut, willing himself to be away from here—’. In the third panel, they're standing outside. The narration reads, ‘When he opened them, he was in the area behind the mansion, in the pale light of the autumn afternoon, and his father's words pounded at him—’. Thomas is kneeling down in front of Bruce in front of the hole he fell in. He's gripping the child's shoulders as he scolds him, “Idiot! I told you never, never to go off alone. Didn't I? Didn't I?” Martha Wayne is behind them with her hand on the side of her face as she looks at them with relief that Bruce is okay.
Page Two: Martha is defending Bruce as Bruce has his head down. Thomas is still squeezing Bruce's shoulders as Martha tells him, “Thomas, he's frightened.” Thomas replies, “He damn well ought to be. He could have been killed.” Martha replaces Thomas's spot in front of Bruce, kneeling to gently place a hand on his upper arm and using a handkerchief to wipe his forehead. Bruce is standing with his fist still clenched and grimacing as Thomas angrily says, “He's got to learn.” Bruce is shown in a low angle, looking up at his mother with wide eyes. The narration continues, ‘He listened to his father's boots crushing the dead grass, and when he could no longer hear them, he dared to ask:’ “Mommy, was I in hell?” Martha soothes, “No, baby, that was just some old cave. You're safe now,” as she hugs him. His cheek is pressed against hers and she has her eyes closed as Bruce still looks uncertain. END ID]
#once again pushing my 'thomas wayne was a piece of shit' propaganda#tied in with the panel of him hitting bruce#and then the alt timeline where they live and martha expresses concern that her eight year old has an obsession with criminology now#and stopped being talkative or wanting to see some train (his special interest) and thomas says good and that it was worth the scare#and ! being autistic. for me when im emotional all sound is so much louder and more overwhelming#the fact that he waited until he couldnt hear his father walking away before asking his mother if he was in hell....#and being no older than 8 and still waiting. just tensed and taking the verbal lashing and them fighting before speaking up?? yeah.#also think it'll be interesting in the 'bruce is constantly seeing the best in people even shitty people that dont 'deserve' a second#chance or for someone to fully believe they can change. that you do bad things but aren't a bad person. that you can do good and not#be a good person. that its making a choice and that anyone can choose and decide to do better than they were yesterday'#sorta deal yknow?#just the conditioning of forgiveness for something theyre not sorry for and wanting to believe everyone is capable of being good#that traumatized 'mommy was i in hell' like god sorry brucie for the trauma but itll have a payoff in a decade or so trust me kid#also martha?? love her. hes the biggest mama's boy you cant change my mind.#bruce wayne#thomas wayne#martha wayne#baby brucie#crypt's panels#c: secret origins | the man who falls#bruce & martha#bruce's childhood

thinking again about jo and the master's relationship.... how jo visted the master in prison.... how by "frontier in space" they're literally trapped in a cell together bantering... how jo is absolutely the reason for the master's subsequent obsession with the doctor's companions and deep unacknowledged desire for a companion of their own...
