this is such a weird niche thing, but as I’ve made friends that write fic too, I’ve noticed how much we borrow from each other and it’s just the sweetest thing. like we see someone’s headcanon and adopt it, we see how someone describes a character and mirror it, we see someone’s idea and elaborate on it. and it’s just the best part about having yall.

When I came across that "joke" from Tav to Quill and Z'rell's comment (plus Halsin), I had to take a minute to process what happened. Gale might be a bit silly and eccentric but he's the kindest, sweetest and most passionate character in that party. No wonder the poor man has deep insecurities to solve, so many people reduce him to an easy target! Ofc one of the side effects would be overconfidence and ambition as a defense mechanism. He's obv lonely; only Tara and Morena ever loved him for him.
his eccentric nature might be a part of it. he is loquacious, outgoing, and doesn’t see the point in hiding his enthusiasm. he is considered to be the weird one. naturally, wizards in general being seen as somewhat squishy and physically weak might also add to it.
personally, i really don’t like the implications of the (widely considered) autistic-coded character being the one who faces the most ridicule by far by other characters and fans (and larian) alike.
some might disagree with me on that, but i don’t find it funny by any means either. mostly it just makes me feel bad. “he deserves it. cocky, arrogant, hubris-ridden wizard needs to be taken down a peg” like he isn’t… y’know… already at his lowest. it also disregards the fact that much of his bravado is part of his carefully curated Great Wizard of Waterdeep™ persona that he has skillfully adopted to mask his general feeling of being defective. being fiercely proud of your skill and knowledge and being doubtful of having something truly worthwhile to offer are mindsets that can coexist. according to fandom, gale is either secret hubris incarnate that is only waiting to be unleashed upon the world or pure baby that can do no wrong. instead of a character that is just as flawed and traumatized as all the others, but no less deserving of genuine love.
to me, the constant ridicule just reads as further feeding into his deep-rooted insecurities and his belief that he (as gale, the person) isn’t someone who holds inherent worth. it really, really doesn’t sit well with me.

I have a HC that Vax appeared at Velora’s wedding like he did at Vex’s, but it was a small private moment for them. Like she was getting ready and she just sees him in the mirror with a smile on his face. Before Vex comes to get her and he leaves he just whispers to her “if they hurt you, I’ll fucking kill them” 😂
Also, at the moment of writing this, I’m waiting to hear if I’m going to be working as a preK teacher!!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you on the job!!!
I love that hc so much oh my godddd. And like Velora would see that as confirmation that even though she didn't know him as well as she wanted to, he still sees her like a sister. And when she hears when she says, she just bursts into laughter. When Vex walks in, she asks her what's so funny.
Velora tells her, "Our brother is threatening my partner from another plane."
And Vex laughs and says that that very much sounds like him. When they get back to Whitestone, she goes to the shrine and thanks him for being there for their little sister.

@thehelplessmortals shared this with me and...Penelope coded.
She definitely tried to gross out Odysseus in a dumb "You think you can handle me, idiot? >:) " way. (She's stubborn and in denial at first. When she realizes she actually likes him, she's a mess.) And while eating raw fish is normal for naiad-born in Sparta, when she learned Odysseus wasn't used to naiads in daily life, she just really went wild with it.
He's just staring at her kind of expressionless and she thinks "Ha, see? You don't really like me."
But he's just like
"You like carp? Cuz if you do, we got plenty on Ithaca! Many more fish too! And if we don't, I'll get you some!"
And she's annoyed because her plan didn't work. Girlie is self-sabotaging even though she thinks he's neat.

Joly + 18, 22, & 12 for the ask game!
Nonny that was so fast omg
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
All of the Amis keep some secrets from their parents but Joly just. Lies constantly. So So So Much Lying. He's honest about his illnesses and his problems with studies but everything else is just shameless prevarication all the way down. it's not that he thinks his folks would be mad about anything , although something ah hahaha yyyyeah they would , but mostly he just know they'd fuss. They'd Worry. They'd have So Much Advice. It's just so much easier to lie! He is not a writer but he's made up more stories than Prouvaire and with a more complex interconnected backstory. At this point his friends also enjoy hearing about what Hypothetical Joly is getting up to.
18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?
I like most of the people he actually has a relationship with in canon so let's go with Mother Hucheloup: I think he's her favorite of the group, because he's mostly well behaved--for a Parisian college student-- and he Actually Pays For Things, but more than that he's just kind her favorite--not like a kid she might have had but like a favorite nephew, maybe, not that she's had a nephew, but she can guess. And his jokes make sense, not like those two friends of his. Hmph.
22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?
I like it when people make him cheerfully Very Weird :D He's Eccentric! quite a loaded term for his era! Nearly any Harmless Weirdness works for me with his character, especially if can be health focused-- syncing sleep to moon phases? Environmental Sound Sculpting? Dying his hair for Color Therapy? Sure! Anything! Although there's a special place in my heart for Joly looking utterly normal/bourgie and only upon entering conversation revealing that he's a complete freak (extremely affectionate <3)

i know everyone wants the legendary stalker to be cool but i'm obsessed with the fact that besides being like, badass or whatever, the only things we know about her is that she a) liked fancy wine, and b) was rude to a kid. PLEASE if we ever see her let her be the most competent stalker of all time AND a disaster as a person. just unpleasant vibes all around.

something about how ep 3 of lis1/lis2 ends with Max/Daniel using their powers in risky, extreme ways to do what they think is the right thing for Chloe/Sean, only for things to go sideways to an extent that leaves Chloe/Sean with a permanent physical disability. the main difference being that Max can erase the entire thing an hour into the next episode, while the Diaz brothers (both brothers) have to actually deal with the physical and psychological fallout from the incident and their respective feelings on it for the rest of the game.
like, what Max inadvertently does to Chloe is a smaller part of a larger plot involving the threats to Arcadia Bay and Rachel's disappearance--what Daniel inadvertently does to Sean is the plot all the way through. it's why he flees in a guilty traumatized panic (even if he can't remember exactly what he did until he sees Sean again) and Sean has to find him again while dealing with his new disability, thus setting up everything that happens in the fourth and final episode.
it's so clear in lis2 ep 4 that Daniel's guilt and trauma are distorting his perspective and making him vulnerable to Lisbeth, leading into his self-destructive quest for purification as an "angel." Max's own guilt is visible from the inside looking out, shaping her tangled efforts to save (or "save," depending on how you feel about the whole euthanasia shitshow) Chloe from her altered reality. meanwhile, Sean has to save Daniel from the longterm psychological effects of what happened during the heist before he falls too deep under Lisbeth's spell.
this bleeds into the way that both ep 4s are episodes about deciding whether to take a life (singular, unlike the mass death you deal with in ep 5). only lis1 deals with Max deciding how her guilt and love for Chloe should affect her decision about Chloe's euthanasia request, while Sean and Daniel are confronted with Lisbeth taking advantage of Daniel's guilt to abuse him and almost kill Sean, and have to decide whether to kill her out of wrath (because that "it was her or us" excuse is pretty much bullshit) and love for each other.
it isn't a question--at least not in this episode--of whether Sean's going to be allowed to live with how his life and body have been altered by Daniel's accidental actions, but how he lives. not to mention that while Max's decision about killing Chloe here may not affect her final decision to kill Chloe or Arcadia in ep 5, Sean's decision about killing Lisbeth/letting her die absolutely shapes how he and Daniel will live with themselves and each other and the world around them at his own final decision.
it's all just two dramatically different ways to deal with the same question of superpowers slipping out of control, and I don't know how to be normal about it.

my most important apollo headcanon is that his online presence is like. absolutely nothing & it makes him dating klavier so much funnier. personally i think social media in the ace attorney universe is like permanently stuck in the 2000s era but like the important thing here is that tabloids catch wind of their relationship & naturally its SO exciting because apollo got klavier’s brother double arrested and you’d think there’s SO much you can do with that but then they try & dig into apollos past and just find absolutely nothing because the single personal anecdote you can find about apollo online is on clay’s instagram that he hasn’t used since high school (trucy sometimes talks about apollo but the only social media she has that isn’t on private are work accounts so it almost doesn’t count). the only thing left to do is talk to people who know him but all they can find is trucy & phoenix, who would respond to questioning like this by straight up lying & telling people he was raised by wolves. at some point lamirior does a press release saying apollo is her son & every news source starts kicking themselves that they didn’t figure this out first

Malistaire 1000000% definitely had constantly cold hands and feet because 1) necromancer and 2) shitty circulation and no meat on them bones. So I say he was Notorious (to just Cyrus and Sylvia) for being the one who when in bed just pushes his cold feet against them. Cyrus learned of this as a child and suffered for years and is glad that it is mostly Sylvia's burden now. Thankfully she runs warm and will burrito bundle her husband in blankets.
