Oh this is something I'm awfully excited to ask you but I keep on forgetting!! But anyway, if you'll create an alien race based on bugs in dragon ball how would you go about it? Like what would be the most important detail do you think they should have? (I want to ask you about specifics of that race too but I don't want to pressure you on answering since I'm sure that would be long. Just an idea of what an alien bug race can be would be awesome!)

THIS IS SUCH A GREAT QUESTION..... because it makes me think so hard i can't think of anything conclusively :') first up is- would this insect race be one species? one family? one order? or just a mix of all different kinds? there's literally around a million insect species and almost 30 orders that are INCREDIBLY diverse in form. i don't want to paste every single example here but here's just the silhouettes to give you an idea!!

but also i could just. make up a new bug entirely?? 😳 like just smash together my favorite characteristics from across the insect world... what sounds good to me atm is cool wings (i like plain membranous more than the scaly wings of butterflies/moths, you can get cool patterns with them too), the general horse shape of a mantis/snakefly and sound producing organs (insects make noises in different ways! crickets stridulate by rubbing their wings together, cicadas expand/contract their tymbals, hissing roaches compress air through their spiracles). i like the idea of insects singing to communicate, it's pretty much only to attract mates or scare predators but i think it's a generally romantic idea :'3 i also think it's cool to consider aspects of physiology, like insects have an open circulatory system (their organs are bathed in hemolymph instead of supplied by vessels), they have a more decentralized nervous system (can still get around despite lots of their body missing), they can overwinter, among other things. oh i think i'd also like them to be holometabolous (larva>pupa>adult rather than a nymph that gradually sheds into its adult form) because i want to see proud parents holding their cute little worm babies :3c

in terms of dragon ball i can say what i won't do- toriyama i'm making a callout post on tumblr dot com- there are insects other than cicadas (although i LOVE cicadas) but i am tired of these things

it is a real structure found among the true bugs (order hemiptera, includes aphids, leafhoppers, cicadas, etc.) called a cibarium which basically houses the big muscles the herbivorous members use to suck up plant juices. SUCK, you say?? yeah these things don't have chewing mouthparts so shut your weird beak mouth, cell. you're supposed to be sucking up people with that instead. their mouths have been modified into straw things called a rostrum which you can barely see under the cibarium of that cicada. if i had to make an alien race based off these kinds of bugs, their mouths would remain rostra and i'd definitely have them communicate through sound production only. that would be hella cool.

(also while we're on the cell callout train, cell's wings are based off the shell of a beetle which are technically called elytra but THERE'S ALSO SUPPOSED TO BE MEMBRANOUS NORMAL WINGS UNDERNEATH! insects typically have two pairs of wings and the shell of a beetle is just the hardened first pair.)

Goku would plant the flowers, he wants them to last forever. I think he’s the type that appreciates permanence where he can get it. Also he likes the flowers and wouldn’t mind seeing them every day for the rest of his life.

Goten would smell the flowers. He would not know how to plant them, and maybe the smell is really good, but the longer he stares at them, the more his thoughts tell him he will get in trouble with his mother if he tries to eat them.

Gohan… Gohan will eat the flowers. He knows most flowers by their scientific name and he knows which ones are edible or not. He will be the first to test whether they will best a half-saiyan digestive system or whether he now has poisoned himself

6) Which saga is your favorite? 

UHMMM Right so - The Great Saiyaman Saga is my favourite because of the low-stakesness of it, and seeing Gohan interact with the rest of the world, I love all the worldbuilding snippets! But, I don't think it would work as a standalone series, as I feel you need the rest of the show to really understand why it's a good breather? It's the eternal conundrum of loving slice-of-life fantasy, really hard to pull off without knowing the full stakes.

So if I was going to pick standalones, I'd pick the standalones that I did watch, which was The Saiyan and Namek Sagas. I hadn't seen Dragon Ball when I started watching DBZ but picked it up quick, and I thought the arc of Goku "suddenly you're an alien and dead", and the Vegeta/Goku battle, and how Vegeta grows into the main cast and is against Frieza making this complex set of alliances, I thought that was smashing! Plus Frieza was great to hate!

9) What is your favorite fight?

If I had to rewatch or reread, I'd probably go for Cell Saga Gohan fight, as it's so gut-wrenching. But if I have to pick one that's stuck with me, it was Trunks' entrance in "Another Super Saiyan?". Imagine watching that at like, 12 or 13 with no idea who Trunks is, just this cool dude with a great haircut (for the time) who shows up and one shots the guy they barely took out in the previous saga? That sword slash is iconic, and it blew my fucken mindddd

How it was summarised at "real speed" in SuperHero really gets it across, too - that cut cut cut lull - BLAST - yea! So it's fave for being so out of nowhere :)!

17) Which anime ending is your favorite?

I don't recall the DB/Z/GT ones, I'm not sure what we had in the UK as we'd have to be dragged out of my grandparents' house a few minutes before the show ended so no nostalgia there!

So my love is with the Super ones! I love the video for Hello, Hello, Hello by Good Morning America the most - that beginning montage (though I can never work out Goku's neck at the end? I think his chin makes his neck look h e n c h haha)This song is also super uplifting to me? Very hopeful.

im a namek saga stan for real. yes i know cells my fave but like. ohhhh namek saga is so good. first super saiyan, the vegeta angst and the stakes getting raised are reasonable. truly if the pacing was better it'd be the best of all time. mmmaybe i'd say android saga for the piccolo swag but really namek is top for me

56!!!! How many people have you fist fought? & 30. Whats irritating you rn?

LMAO. oh my god i've never physically fought someone. i do think about it sometimes though because i commute through the city although it's very short and straightforward. even then i don't think i could technically fistfight them, the only self defense i know is a couple judo techniques that throw the opponent

thankfully nothing is irritating me actively rn but i guess to go back to a previous question, i was mad at myself earlier because there was a visiting scientist at work who seemed like i'd get along with well but we only had one conversation (which i sorta stumbled through because i was nervous), i wish i talked to him more before he left yesterday!! i think given more time we may have been friends :')

And while I'm here. I totally would prefer if Gohan wouldn't be in any fights anymore but if they did force him, I think he shouldn't get anymore crazy transformations that's obviously hard on him mentally (esp since they're all just nostalgia trips anyway). I have an HC that the transformations tunes up their senses to the max and that's why Gohan can see better after transforming and why he turns arrogant and/or wild in battle, being more reckless and making ill decisions. The toll on his mind and body is preventing him to make sound judgements. The other saiyans have less problems with this because they love almost everything that a battle brings and makes them feel, but Gohan is different. His complicated relationship with fighting prevents him to find the mental balance that the others have. He did choose a grounded lifestyle for this reason.

This is a SUPER interesting headcanon, and def makes a lot of sense

Gohan’s emotions have always seemed pretty highly linked to his powers, and well. Power upgrades clearly effect everything else on the body (they get all big and muscly, their eye color changes, hair grows and changes color) so it would only make sense that their senses get better too !!

And to constantly go back and forth with that, maybe it *does* take a toll on gohan— he’s the first half-saiyan-half-human, so he’s pretty much setting every precedent. Maybe he’s a lot stronger but his body/ psyche isn’t as built to handle it, or he was traumatized too much too early and wasn’t able to build his way to enjoy fighting, so it took a toll that way—

Either way I agree, he did choose a more realistic lifestyle because he didn’t have an interest in fighting for the rest of his life lol

Absolute Leader of the Pitch

Name: Lights Out

Thank you so much for helping me name this one!!

Dribble/Steal Hissatsu

Description: Kidou gives an opponent a knowing smirk as he stops in front of them. He snaps his fingers confidently and the light disappears within the few meters around them. With confusion comes panic for the player under his spell and he takes this as an opportunity to disappear from their eyes as two giant yellowgreen orbs with vertical slits take his place. The orbs emitted a sickly glow as the slits turn wider and wider until a mouth with bared fangs appear under them. The eyes turn playful as the opponent feel their knees tremble at the slowly approaching predator, fangs dripping off some fluid and heaves a touch breathy. As they make a move to run, the predator--now they can clearly see as a black cat-- slams them on the ground and stretches its mouth to show a set of sharp teeth that attacks the screaming player.

Weakness: Anticipating the attack before he starts it

Inspiration: Kidou likes making his favorite animals his hissatsu (he likes penguins who are cute with a scary side so i know he likes cats).

Effective on: One to four opponents

Name: Knife Darts

Dribble/Steal Hissatsu

Description: Either an opponent approaches him or he approaches the one with the ball. As soon as Kidou is only a small distance from the other player, he crosses his arms over his chest to show knives that appeared between his fingers. The startled opponent slows down and feels a wall behind them. The monochromatic wall that looks like a target with a red dot at the center corners them and Kidou throws the knives in one fell swoop. His opponent instinctively guard using their forearms, covering their own line of sight. As the knives fly, the player feels the gravity shift from something that's attracting their weight to their feet to now the wall behind them. Sounds of knives hitting just a centimeter from their sides brings them back to the match where they realize they're now laying on their back against the ground and Kidou has just run pass them.

Weakness: Multiple opponents

Inspiration: He used to watch a lot of illusionists after a long week of study and training when he was younger. This move, along with Illusion Ball, is very dear to him since they made him not think of the expectations of being a Kidou during a time when he had to get used to it.

Effective on: One opponent

Name: Koutei Penguin: It's Feeding Time

Shoot Hissatsu

Description: He stands face-to-face with the goalkeeper, kicks the ball straight upwards, and whistles. He shouts Koutei Penguin in a low tone and quickly afterwards enters a giant and angry emperor penguin that came out of the ground behind him, only its head and a portion of its upper body for everyone to see. As the ball drops and bounces to Kidou's level, he kicks it on the side, making it spin very fast until it turns into a fish that then points towards the goal. With an apathetic stare, he points at the goalie and whispers behind him, "It's feeding time." The fish shoots where he pointed and the penguin screams as it opens its mouth to chase its food. The goalkeeper is forced to watch what looks like long sharp pink spines inside what usually seems like a tamed creature. The nightmare-inducing sight usually leads the keeper to retreat and let the ball hit the net to save themself from the horror.

Weakness: A strong-willed goalkeeper who can go head-to-head with that abomination (/pos) and has the strength to push it back.

Inspiration: Well. Let's just say he was angry in a match once and it reminded him of what a penguin's mouth looks like and wanted to be generous; so, he shared the beautiful knowledge. Please do not search that unless you can take it.

Note: Those things are not teeth!! They just look like teeth but their papillae. They're not sharp either, their growths of some sort. I understand nothing about penguins but I know Kidou loves them dearly.

Related Kidou Headcanons:

In a story I concocted in my mind, Lights Out is a move inspired by a black cat he adopted named Hecate that he brings with him wherever country he goes. Hecate is a master hunter of every unwanted little creature in his current home or outside of it. She likes showing them to Kidou first before she eats them in front of him to his digust and fascination (Kidou allows this because she gets in a sour mood when she couldn't do it at least a day). The main Kidou mansion and all of their vacation homes never stay filthy but Hecate always finds her prey.

It's Feeding Time is a technique Kidou only uses on people he doesn't like and was created in the middle of a frustrating match with a condescending goalkeeper. He has never and will never use that on Endou and Tachimukai unless they requested themselves. Genda personally asked to try it (he was also frightened the first few times) and was able to catch it after many attempts. The name ended up sounding ridiculous because he came up with it in the fly (and fuming).

Notes from Lore/Fritz:

Knife Darts is originally a move I created for Gouenji under the name Flaming Knives (yes, it could sound lamer) because I wanted a non-shoot hissatsu for him. I got him something else that fits him better. I gave this one to Kidou as a callback for his magician theme for Illusion Ball. I think he should have more magician-themed ones.

Lights Out is a mix of the magician theme and his love of animals and I'm really in love with it. Did Kidou transform into a cat using the move? Wouldn't you like to know, weather boy?

I always wonder how the audience in the stands or at home see a hissatsu technique. Let's just assume they can magically see Lights Out in the dark and never ask me about it /lh.

You're probably thinking that Knife Darts should have been the move I made a poll about and honestly I was planning to but the wait period is driving me insane so I didn't bother ashashadhas. But if any of you have some ideas for a better name, I'm all ears.

*grabs mic* Alright, I had to think on this a bit. I always seem to have a hard time picking definitive favorites. (Also it took me a while to word everything just right.) Also, gonna add a read more since I think this is gonna get long.

5) Dragon Ball

The irony of this being being in my top five is that I remember when I was a dumb child who thought I wouldn’t like it.

Literally. When I was in early elementary school, my best friend and her younger brother were sleeping over one day; so we were in the basement and watching TV, and there was en episode of DBZ on that they wanted to watch, but I did not. Like, to the point of looking away from the TV with my hands over my ears. (Young me was so dumb.) All I remember was that it was an episode with King Kai in it.

And then in 2014, my older brother got into Dragon Ball, so he was telling me about the characters and stuff; and then one day he decided to show me a clip on YouTube, and that clip was Goten vs Ekosa (idk why that one). And the he introduced me to Abridged, so for a while all I watched was random clips on YT and Abridged.

And then later that summer Battle of Gods came out in theaters in the US, so we went to see it. A bunch of his friends were supposed to see it with us, but they didn’t buy tickets ahead of time and it was sold out by the time we got there, so it was just my brother and I. And then on the way home, he was telling me about this website (that has since been shut down I think) called dbz.tv that had all of DB/Z/GT and all the movies in English.

So it was with that website that I watched all of OG DB. But this was back when I had my old desktop computer with the 8pm curfew and all these website restrictions. So what I did was sneak downstairs whenever possible and watch it on my mom’s iPad. And then after that, I went on to Z, which I never fully finished; I either stopped at the filler episode of Gohan and the robot, or after the fight with Vegeta when they were loading Goku onto the aircraft to go to the hospital.

And a couple month ago, I thought to myself “I should revise DB” and now I'm here, spiraling in brainrot.

4) Fairy Tail

The second anime I’ve ever seen. Also I don’t remember if I knew that Pokémon was an anime when I got into Fairy Tail, so this might’ve been my introduction to anime in general.

I was introduced to Fairy Tail one day at a friend's house. Their family actually had Netflix so we watched the first episode together. And then I went looking for somewhere to watch it online, and I just ended up down the rabbit hole. (This was also the first show I ever made an OC for; if I ever revisit her, she's gonna need a lot of reworking.)

I’ve also been considering rewatching some time soon, and I gotta get caught up on the sequel manga, so probably expect more posts/reblogs on it some time soonish.

3) Fire Emblem

Another one I got into via my brother. I think Awakening had recently come out, and he was telling me about the plot, and then one day he let me do a playthrough on his copy. I remember after I got Donnel, he did the grinding for me to get him to a point where he’d be usable and good in battle.

Although, I was not very good at the game back then. I sucked at strategy and knew NOTHING of other class lines to reclassify into or skill inheritance, which is why my Donnel!Nah got Sol instead of Aptitude and my Frederick!Yarne got Luna (they did wreck quite a bit of shop on the battlefield though). And there were a number of characters that I never used, so there were a number of 2nd gen units that I never got. Like I said, I sucked.

That save file is long since gone. And over time, as the years have passed and I’ve played more games, I've gotten somewhat better.

2) Lilo & Stitch

A classic. I have seen the first movie so many times; I used to quote it with my best friend all the time; I still quote it quite often. I remember waking up real early some Saturdays just to watch the TV show. Also I recently got the remaining two movies that I did not already own on DVD for my birthday.

1) Pokémon

This may be kinda cliché, but I just really love Pokémon. Maybe it’s the nostalgia, but I can’t see anything else topping the list anytime soon. It’s always been there for me and always given the whole range of feels. Idk what more to say about it.
