I just finished Malcolm's novella, and he was a college professor for astrophysicist (from what I gather) and I have thoughts

1. How did the movie go from that to a steel mill worker??

2. That's probably why he wanted Sam to finish highschool/go to college at the end of United as One

3. He got fired because he was an astrophysicist who was adamant that aliens existed (even though that's part of why he was an astrophysicist in the first place).

And 4. Him working at the human garde academy makes much more sense

I feel like theNew Lorien org would end up helping a lot of refugees because a) it’s clear that the teens who find out they are Guarde are at risk of persecution and b) you can’t tell me that they put out the question “How can we help?” and didn’t get a bunch of people fleeing danger coming to them. AND these people wouldn’t really have any local organizations that are more suitable to be rerouted to. The New Lorien org. has a whole division dedicated to refugees.

Also I think they would partner with organizations like the Red Cross to be more effective. They would also wind up searching for local help a lot of the time because sometimes people would need something like legal help and they can’t know the laws of every country. But a lot of places have resources when you know where to look so the folks at New Lorien get really good at looking.

They really have to delegate like that at the beginning because they just don’t have the resources or know how to help everyone. The result is that they have a broad, far reaching network of people in a range of professions in some pretty unlikely places.

Also the people they help sometimes wind up becoming someone they can call on

On the Red Cross note, I think the Guarde probably made the mistake in the beginning of rushing into a war zone in their eagerness to help someone and fucking up big time. Maybe it’s not an international incident but the seasoned folks on the ground are pissed.

Also how do they filter people? Is there anyone they refuse to help? Like a person whose committed heinous crimes? Or maybe they just ignore requests they think aren’t crises (like triaging)?

Okay, so I almost always filter out the “major character death” warning on ao3, and yet I just wrote a fic several thousand words longer than anything else I’ve ever written entirely centered around reacting to two canon character deaths. And I’m actually really pleased with how it turned out. I have a lot of opinions about the ending of RtZ, but one major complaint I have is that, while we do get to see some of the Human Garde’s reactions and settling into New Lorien, we don’t get to see basically anything about the Loric. This is my approach to a canon-compliant closer look at everyone’s headspace in that last chapter. 

Summary: The remaining Garde react to their new scar. Includes lots of introspection, angst, and working through grief and trauma

Personal hc is when nine gets drunk he's much more calm and relaxed than usual instead of super erratic or something. Still flirty. Also he controls all the speakers in his penthouse so everyone is forced to listen to his music taste. Ten and eight outwardly like the music and five pretends not to. I don't know if my previous ask pulled through, but I'm wondering if you have any favorite Human Garde character outside of the Fugitive Six?

It did, but I was debating on waiting on answering until I read Sam and Six's novellas because from what I've heard I think I'll really like Nemo and Max.

But right now I'm really interested in Einar. I don't know if I *like* him, but he's definitely trying to make a positive difference for the rest of the garde. His and Five’s relationship kinda gets me because they both get something out of it (Five gets Einar's legacy to calm him down, and Einar gets Five’s power), but sometimes it feels like Einar is kinda using/manipulating Five a little.

I REALLY like Vontessa (or however you spell her name) and the idea of some Mogadorian's also getting legacies. I definitely think Adam and Rex got some, but they're never mentioned? No one even really wonders about it except for Vontessa?? We don't know if John goes to check on Adam ever again after the end of the first series??I'm kinda mad about that part...sorry for mini mog rant...
