Right, this is gonna sound really fucked up — and you're all going to hate me for this — but I actually want Lloyd to die at some point in the show.

And that...is because of these two:

Give me a dumb scene about Kai and Garmadon yelling at each other because of each other's grief and eventually having this moment of clarity where they realize that Lloyd wouldn't want them to do this and all that shit. Give me Kai spitting out "he was my brother" and Garmadon replying with an anguished "he was my son" and them connecting with one another through their grief. Give me a plot of a season that doesn't end with them bringing Lloyd back. Get Garmadon and Kai to sort out their differences throughout their shared loss or whatever. Y'all don't understand how much I need this.

Obsessed with Lloyd never mentioning his grandfather is the First Spinjitsu Master, apparently to the point even Arin didn't seem to know, because "eh, it never came up". Cause like, yeah, sure, my grandfather is God, what of it? Normal day for me. Shit happens. My dad is also evil, you wanna talk about that? I sure don't.

It's also funny from a character arc perspective. Here's itty bitty baby first season Lloyd, loudly proclaiming he's the son of Garmadon, and probably also making sure everyone knows he's God part 3 electric boogaloo. And then one Tomorrow's Tea and a few more years later and he's doing everything physically possible to NOT care about his heritage. In fact he'd probably rather his parentage was literally anyone else. Dude could care so less he forgets about it most of the time. King behavior.

Details:

Eclipse:

Takes place after crystallized, the ninja have recovered their powers and got back to the status quo.

Rumors start spreading on the Internet that Kai is actually useless because he's never defeated a supervillain on his own. Kai gets insecure about his worth to the rest of the team, acting more and more rashly out of the need to prove himself. However, everyone else thinks he's overreacting for attention, so in a mission with Lloyd and Nya, after trying too hard and messing up, they snap at him, thinking he just wants to regain his popularity disregarding people's safety.

Much later, Kai is injured on a solo mission and is saved by a mysterious woman (the villain) who secretly aims to manipulate him to turn against the ninja and Ninjago as a whole, taking advantage on his past hardships as a child and his current mixed feelings towards them. She uses dark magic (sort of like Clause) to take and amplify what little is left of the corruption from Chen's elements staff into a mask, to slowly make his own thoughts turn against them all, eroding him from inside out.

At first she convinces him to become a kind of vigilante, killing criminals who might have used him in the past under said mask as Akatora ("Red Tiger"), steadily growing more corrupted.

Once the ninja discover Akatora's true identity, they believe he's being forced to betray them and try to "save" him, which only angers Kai further for not realizing how badly they've treated him.

But when they realize that they're at fault, the team splits in two: Cole, Jay and Pixal can't see a way of saving Kai on time before he self-destructs and takes the entire city down with him; while Lloyd, Nya and Zane try to get him back at all costs.

At first, the villain didn't care which elemental master to use to get the ninja to destroy the city. But upon finding out more about Kai's past, she decides the Ninja are no good for him and wants to "save" him, to get him out of that toxic environment. She even confronts them more than once after taking him under her wing. However, later on she changes her mind...

I have many more details but this is all I'll say for now. I want to make it a realistic and morally grey season where neither the ninja nor Kai are the villain, because the ninja do love Kai, they just have to show it. Also Kai's corruption is going to be slow where you don't really know how of it is Kai's true intentions.

On the road:

This AU is set years after Kai and Nya's parent's disappearence. Despite still living at the blacksmith off Kai's odd jobs, the siblings are fairly neglected by the townspeople of Ignacia. After getting seriously beat up in a fight with some kids who had been passive-agressively bullying Kai for years, they go a little too far by almost killing him and threatening to do the same to Nya. Kai is forced to abandon the hope of their parents ever returning and leaves for Ninjago City with Nya, hoping for a better life.

After travelling for a while they stumble across Ronin. They somehow convince him to take them in for a while in his rudimentary shed and to teach Kai how to hunt and be more self-sufficient for the journey. In the meantime, Nya shows off her handiwork, making toys off scraps for Ronin to sell as thanks. When they decide to part ways, Ronin gives them a map, setting them on the right direction (he's no babysitter, but hey, he actually cared).

Days later, Nya finds a hungry and weary Lloyd along the way, lost after escaping Darkleys and looking for his uncle Wu. After some convincing from Nya, they agree to take him in and start travelling together, eventually bonding and becoming a found family.

The Au is mostly about their (fun) little adventures and Kai being an overstressed mom trying to keep their younger siblings alive and relatively out of trouble (but don't worry, he's actually enjoying it).

In the end, after having taken their shot in Ninjago, they find Wu and are taken in at the monastery. Yes, Wu is actually a good uncle here. They deserve it. Especially Kai.

Kai is 13, Nya 11 and Lloyd 9 (older than canon, no tomorrow's tea)

In my opinion, the reason the reunion scene was skipped was because the author couldn’t figure out a way to write it non-romantically and gave up after a while

honestly. i kinda agree with you nonnie.

it just. the set up to the scene is sooooo romantic. you have lloyd being absolutely devastated at the thought he's not going to see any of his loved ones ever again and that he's been dropped back into his terrible life, to the place he admitted he'd rather die than go back to,,, and then someone knocks at the door and when he opens it this is the sight that greets him:

his best friend, the person he's closest to, the one he's spent years with, the one he promised a peaceful life at his side, the one he wanted to grow old with, the one he sacrificed everything for, the one he effectively gave his life to save, the one he thought he'd never see again, standing at his door, having crossed literal dimensional barriers to get to him, a soft and teary smile on his face as he tells him "i missed you"

like. c'mon.

i'm all for platonic interpretations, i'm aroace, i love me a good best friendship as much as the next guy, but,,,, isn't this,,, like,,, really fucking romantic??? extremely so??? am i??? reading too much into it?? because it feels really, really romantic to me.

and like you say. where do you go from there. what response could lloyd give that doesn't involve throwing himself at javier and clinging to him with all of his strength. what conversation could these two have that doesn't involve them seeing how truly devoted they are to each other. what resolution does their arc together have that isn't them spending the rest of their lives together, at each other's side, like they so dearly wanted to.

but. alas. that wasn't the story bk moon wanted to tell. and that's very much his right. i just think that if he didn't want me to assume there's no in-character and narratively satisfying version of that conversation that doesn't end with them kissing he should've at least tried to give us something. and not completely skipped it lol

Lloyd immediately deflates, bending over with a heavy sigh. His heart is thrumming so violently in his chest, he thinks it might jump out. “Please, don’t scream unless it’s actual danger. You scared me.”

“Sorry.” Arin and Sora apologize in unison.

“But, seriously, look at the bug.” Sora chirps and Lloyd takes a peek at it.

“It looks like a bug.” Lloyd answers simply, still shaky from adrenaline.

“He’s a fancy bug.” Arin smiles, pointing at its little brown shell and pinchers. “Hes got pinchers and a cool shell.”

Lloyd nods numbly, watching the two kids. They seem so enamored with the little things in life, adoring it with everything they can muster.

Childlike wonder…

He can’t remember when he lost that…

Wait, he can…it was after Misako left.

Pain gouges in Lloyd’s chest, making it hard to breath, the sadness squeezing his lungs like a ruthless python.

He allows it to set in like before, let’s it burn, let’s it steam, let’s it fade to smoke.

“You know who this bug reminds me of?” Arin remarks.

“Who?” Lloyd asks, wincing at how scratchy his voice is.

“The brown ninja.”

Lloyd bursts into laughter, the tightness from before lifting as if a giant weight was taken off his chest. “He-he does.” he looks to the brown bug, giggling again.

He can imagine Dareth’s face on the insect now and he can’t help, but laugh more.

“He was so cool.” Arin murmurs.

Ninjago characters and how they feel about lofthouse cookies:

Kai:

He pretends to like them for Lloyd. He doesn't like them, but he doesn't dislike them either.

Jay:

He fuckin loves these guys. He claims the different frosting colors have different flavors.

Cole:

This is the one cake-like thing Cole doesn't like. He thinks of them as a disgrace to cakes.

Zane:

Never actually had one

Nya:

She doesn't like them, but I don't think she'd like many sweet foods anyways?

Lloyd:

He used to Love them, but stopped loving them as he got older. He doesn't understand why Kai keeps eating them when they're around, but he doesn't really have the heart to tell Kai he doesn't have to pretend to like them anymore.

P.I.X.A.L.:

She can't eat, but she likes the way they look.

Arin:

Would kill for these.

Sora:

Would kill Arin for eating these.

I’m procrastinating on making the part two too “Lloyd knows too much” so take my headcanon design of Lloyd.

The second one (the one without the notes) is wayyy better quality cause my airdrop is bugging out and stuff.

Anyways, the notes from top to bottom, right to left+some more detail i couldn’t write directly onto it:

Baby Horn’s (he keeps them on sometimes to get used to having horns if he ever needs to go oni or is forced in to it, he often gets headaches so thats why he trains with a mini version of them, in full oni they are much bigger)

Brown hair caused by Lloyds Oni blood awakening, which brings out the dna or genes or whatever in his blood to make his hair brown similar to his father Garmadon. Lloyd is naturally blonde, and tends to get insecure about how much he doesn’t look like his parents. So when the brown spurted out and just chills where his horns tend to grow, he like to think its the one positive thing about the whole Oni thing.

I saw this headcanon on a tiktok too but don’t remember which one, but Lloyd has one scar from when he first grew his fangs and was testing them out. He’s able to easily retract them nowadays.

The white scars on his body are scars from battle. Pretty self explanatory.

In this design Lloyd has neck horns too, but one left a purple scar from where it forcibly grew out of his still somewhat human skin.

Last but not least, Lloyd has a burn on his shoulder caused by evil Kai (the corrupted Kai with Chen’s elemental staff). Lloyd actually likes the scar and thinks its cool, especially since Kai didn’t mean to. He likes to think its one of those physical marks left on him that not only shows his journey against evil, but his journey with the ninja themselves and their development into friends, and then family. Every time any of the ninja injure him, whether its through sparing or through small “HAHAHA I AM EVIL NOW!” Moments, he tends to hope they scar over permanently on his body. So yeah, Lloyd loves the scar, and Kai definitely does not. (Made this one on the spot i cannot lie and i may be projecting, i have two tiny scars from my siblings (caused by accident) and i hope they stay there forever)

And one last one i forgot to write down: Lloyds horns are crooked on purpose. Even though he didn’t develop the horns until later in life, due to his multiple head injuries through battles his horns ended up growing crookedly in response. Wu had a tiny chuckle at that.

OOO ALSO I MADE HIS FACE SEEMED A BIT TANNED OR SUN BURNT, i feel like due to his childhood on the streets and since he was always a more outside person his face tanned a whole lot on his cheeks.

Anyways enough of my rants, I’m thinking of doing this for each ninja, do any of you have an idea on the next one?

Season 8 was like 6 years ago(I feel old) and I know ppl have differing opinions on the Mr Echo thing (but it was intended, made it to storyboard and blocked animation and then dropped, soooo) but. I can see his recruitment p easily tbh. Bc the whole reason Dr J was in that lighthouse was because he was resurrected, forced there, and ordered to build Skulkin vehicles by Samukai. But Samukai in the flashback we see has already been deposed as leader of the Skulkin/Underworld. Which means the orders to do so most likely came from Garmadon.

And since Mr. E is one of the head honchos, he's likely an early arrival to the team, so I don't think Harumi has a whole lot figured out at this point, she's just got her Trauma and some Bad Influence Friends and an obsession with Lord Garmadon. So. Like. Plausible deniability road trip that she's just visiting important markers of Ninjago's recent past, all of which involve Lord Garmadon in some meaningful way; its sightseeing, its cathartic, and it gives her time to develop her dream Motorcycle Gang/Resurrection Cult. She's not looking for anyone at the Lighthouse, but she is looking for vehicle blueprints so she can be the Koolest leader on the block. But oops she looks in the basement and there's an Echo.

And she's flipping out bc??? A Ninja???? In the Lighthouse basement??? I mean it makes sense that it would be this one but???

Except this rusty old robot has no idea what she's talking about with this Ninja stuff, he's just waiting for his dad to come back.

And Harumi pauses.

Because how long has he been waiting? He's not sure, he had no proper way to measure time in the basement, and he doesn't have the best view of his clockwork heartpiece. But it was after his father saw a strange ship docking; Echo was worried it was the People who had locked up his father in the first place, but instead his dad sounded happy when he saw whoever was out there. It could have been a front, though, as clearly it was never safe to let Echo back out. Then Dr J popped down briefly, while everyone above was resting, to tell Echo he was desperately needed elsewhere, that it wasn't safe to bring Echo, but that he'd be back in no time.

And the pieces are fitting together for Harumi. And she's like. Your dad's dead, bro.

And he's like. What? Did he die doing what was needed of him?

And she's like. Oh, no. He died a few years later.

And he's like. Why didn't he come back for me????

And she's like. Probably because they kept him away.

And he's like. Who's they?

And she's like. The Ninja I was talking about earlier.

And it surely can't be hard in universe to find pictures of Zane and Dr J post s2-pre s3, so she pulls one up and shows Echo who is freaking out bc why is that one kind of like him and Harumi explains that that was the droid his father created first, that he became a Ninja, and that hes probably the one who took their father away and kept echo waiting for years.

But Echo has doubts, shocked as he is abt a new older brother, he wants to believe the good in the situation so he's unsure. But Harumi mentions that the Ninja's failures to uphold more than their self preservation/interests has led to uncountable losses and devastation in Ninjago time and time again, before delving into her own story. And she seems so kind, and so hurt, and I do think there's a genuine connection btwn these two that forms from this shared emotional torment that they decide came from the Ninja, and now Echo is more receptive.

And then Harumi gets to start her Garmadon pitch because wait! If Echo was made here, then that could only have happened because of Lord Garmadon. And she reiterates that he's the reason she and her city could have even survived The Great Devourer. And maybe Echo's family-by-creation left, maybe they were untrustworthy and lacking, but that's OK bc if you look at it all a certain way, Garmadon is more of a father to Echo than Dr J was. And Echo is a vulnerable, overwhelmed mess who just found out his dad fucked off for years without him and also died, and also he has a brother??? Who their dad clearly seems to have favored??? Did they even know about Echo??? Did they delight in their life free of him???

Basically. Kinda Spinel-core but getting abandoned and left completely alone does that to you. Especially when the first person to find you after being abandoned is a deeply hurt and misguided teen who is probably kinda desperate for someone, anyone else to see the Ninja the way she sees them.
