The winning team will score not only the respective prize based on how many days the user pays, but 5,000 Gotchi Points!
The next feature in this update is more room for items! Bandai has heard your cries, and they’re making it happen! That’s right, you can now store extra items in what Bandai is called “My Box”. This is where you can store items that you are not able to hold on the device. The My Box feature can hold 80 accessories, 40 items, and 40 pieces of furniture, that’s impressive!
Lastly, there have been some general gameplay improvements. First, if you participate in a Tama Arena event, the daily amount of points you can earn is now tiered. 3rd place will score you 500 Gotchi Points, 2nd place will score you 750 Gotchi Points, and lastly, first place will score you 1,000 Gotchi Points.
Also, based on your feedback, Bandai has adjusted the displays and effects for a smoother gameplay experience.
This is a HUGE update, Tama Portal is now live, a new Tama Arena game is about to start, the new My Box feature, along with some general enhancements. This update truly lives up to its name, and really showcases how much investment Bandai has in the Tamagotchi Uni. The device you purchased months ago and even more new and exciting features today. This is huge!

Every Record I Own - Day 752: Genghis Tron Dream Weapon
This is an album highlight of 2021.
I saw the early electronic grindcore incarnation of Genghis Tron live once back in 2008. I was at Red 7 in Austin, TX with Russian Circles as part of a tacked-on mini-festival at the end of SXSW. My memory of the night is hazy, though the internet tells me that Maps & Atlases, Lymbyc Systym, Caspian, This Will Destroy You, Circle Takes the Square, Constants, Coliseum, Junius, Portugal the Man, Tera Melos, and The Coma Recovery also played. While I realize that in some circles this is a pretty impressive line-up, back in 2008 most of these bands were just starting out, and rather than feeling like an amazing festival it felt like a disorganized show with way too many artists involved.
I remember getting a little fatigued by all the post-rock stuff on the bill, and by the time Genghis Tron set up I was excited to hear a band that had a bit more energy and aggression behind them. Unfortunately, in lieu of a drummer they had a drum machine, and while the PA in Red 7 should’ve been adequate enough to make those mechanized beats sound absolutely crushing, the band was hobbled by a mix that made the drums sound quiet and completely cut-off from the live instrumentation.
For me, this is the big risk when combining electronic elements in a rock band. With the right sound engineer and the right PA, it can sound amazing. But in a small club with a disinterested sound engineer and no real soundcheck, the electronic components often sound detached and separate instead of fully integrated into the band’s sound. I wanted to believe, but I was not made into a Genghis Tron convert that night.
After a thirteen year hiatus, Genghis Tron returned with Dream Weapon. The metal elements are completely gone. The vocals have switched from grindcore grunts and shrieks to layered harmonies and vocoded treatments. The guitars are minimal while the synths take center stage. And though there are still electronic drum patterns, my SUMAC comrade Nick Yacyshyn hammered out live drums on the album. So really, it feels like a totally different band. And while I’m generally down for the mechanized assault of industrialized metal/hardcore (see: Uniform, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Godflesh, Austerity Program, etc.), I gotta say that this new incarnation of Genghis Tron completely won me over in a way their earlier work did not. Dream Weapon isn’t about brute force. While Nick’s drumming definitely lends an aggressive power to the album, the overall vibe of the record is more exhilarating than antagonistic.
I remember driving on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago one night, past the skyscrapers of downtown, the city lights glowing, Tangerine Dream turned up loud on the car stereo. The music paired with the monoliths of concrete and neon felt like some joyride into the future. Listening to Dream Weapon feels a little like that night if you were to add some element of danger and adrenaline---a pursuit, or perhaps a race to some urgent destination but with the full confidence of succeeding in the mission. It’s the soundtrack of accelerating into the night, of feeling in control of the man-made constructs surrounding us, of retaining the sense of self in an increasingly automated world.
Dream Weapon came out when we were all still in the pre-vaccine COVID lockdown, when the idea of live shows returning was still up in the air. And while that generally felt like a difficult time to release albums since there was no ability to promote them through touring, those restrictions might have actually served as a boon to Genghis Tron. This is music from some future world. Its sense of space feels divorced from reality. While I would absolutely love to see this incarnation of the band perform live, there’s also something really special about the fantasy world it creates. Dream World came out at a time when reality was pretty bleak and we were all relatively cut off from each other, and it offered a beguiling alternate world for us to bask in during our isolation.

(I made a fanfic!!! It's also up on whattpad and is far better.)
Saved from damnation chapter 1. (a La squadra x reader fanfic. Any errors shall be duely noted and hopefully corrected!)
Risotto had told you not to leave. That was what you were going to do. He asked that you stay safe because he wanted at least a fraction of the old team to be able to move on. He said that to you before he left to go and fight the boss so you stayed in the hideout waiting on that string of hope that maybe one of them would return.
You laid down on the sofa. Quietly refreshing the message page, waiting for one of them to say something, anything. Just to prove to you that they might just come back. This place was normally humming with Fromaggio’s silly little jokes and Illusio’s snarky comebacks. It felt like a ghost town. You placed the laptop on the coffee table opposite you.
You let out a deep sigh as you snuggled into one of Illu’s spare jacket that you were using as a blanket, pulling it tighter around your shoulders. You really miss them. As you hug the stuffed fish you borrowed off of Pecsi to use as a cushion. You were going to have to apologise for borrowing their stuff without their permission. You had borrowed one thing off of everybody. You were wearing one of Risotto’s hats, he had actually gotten you one of your own but it was just nicer to feel like he was there. You had figured out that Prosci had copies of his necklace clearly just in case his current one got damaged was your best guess. You also borrowed Melone’s laptop to check up on updates on the board the guys where using. The leftover ice cream Giha had made was gone you loved it as always. You had you had a football game on quietly in the background because it reminded you of Froma. You slowly let your eyes close as you fell asleep feeling safe, warm, and like they were all there.
You missed all of them so much.
It was a massive blow when Sorbet and Gelato died, they were the first ones to openly care about you or call you a friend and over the years you knew the pair of them you had never had a bad experience with either. They were the kind, gay uncles you would never replace for the world. One time they were all going to go out on the town for the evening as was very normal for them on weekends because they work stressful jobs that are break-neck not only metaphorically but also quite literally. They live every moment to the fullest as they should. However, at the time you were still only 13 and that meant you had to stay back at home and you insisted that it would be fine. But Sor and Lat decided that they didn’t feel like going out that night. They stayed behind to take care of you. It was a fun evening full of studio Ghibli movies and junk food. Needless to say, these where more of common occurrence between the three of you that started to drag the rest of them in until it was a tradition they all did together, almost as a family. They haven’t done them since.
Not much time had really passed before Fromaggio died. This hit hard as well because he was like your brother. His puns where always the funniest shit to you, especially thinking back to them at 2 am. You absolutely loved watching him get passionate about football because he would talk on and on and you’d listen to all of it. It was fascinating to you in a way it never was before. It made you wonder what had changed in the weeks you’d known him at that point. Maybe it was because you became more open in general. No threat of violence against you was ever actually followed through on and you felt the safest you’d ever felt. It was lovely. You also love to hang out with his cats. They were always so pleasant critters to be around and you often asked to just play with his cats with him. Hoe told you that it was unusual to him. They were always happy around you which he couldn’t say was true for him, because they would scratch and yell when he’s trying to hug them. He said that you, “Have the gift. You can pet the fuzzy babies without them trying to claw your eyes out.”
Then Illusio disappeared. You two weren’t as close but there was still a mutual enjoyment of each-others presence. He seemed to really enjoy doing your hair which was good because you really liked being the test subject for his hairstyle ideas. Seeing new things done with your hair gave you a feeling of warm contentment. Listening to him spreading rumours about his friends, never serious and always rather funny, another highlight was. He could, and would, roast absolutely anyone and everyone. He wasn’t quiet when he disapproved of something, and you’d hear about that too.
Then Pros’ and Pecsi’s remains were found…
Pros’ death hit like a train. It was an odd coincidence because of what you were told about his final moments. You felt like you were being slowly torn apart by the news of your friend’s, no, family’s deaths. Each man fallen left a deep wound on you. By the end of the long week, you had no more tears left as you sat on your bed staring blankly at the faded world around you. You saw him as like your second dad. He may have been snarky and harsh, but it never got to the point where it wasn’t legit criticism. He seemed to know all the best words to keep you going. Pushing the limits of your abilities, to run that extra minute, to do those extra reps. You were driven to near-breaking, but never over. There was always an end, and with him helping you, it became easier to use and control the abilities you seemed to have gained. He called a part of your Stand which Riso had recently explained to you was a manifestation of your spirit and subconscious. Every week you trained the abilities became refined, it eventually got to the point that she occasionally showed herself.
Pecsi was like your older younger brother. His confidence issues had him constantly stumbling over basic interactions that you tried to help to varying degrees of success. You were also very affectionate because it made him become a blushing mess and you found it to be quite funny. He got used to it eventually and it became just another odd thing that you just, did. When you were watching a movie that was even a little scary you two clung to each-other, shaking like leaves. This led to most of the group joking about you two being a thing, earning them a very flustered Pineapple, and scowls that could have murdered from you. The number of times you had to be pulled off the lad because you where petrified by the movie, was higher than the number of times Pecsi had doubted himself. On those nights he insisted on sleeping in your room, because the pair of you were normally too afraid of being on your own. It got so common that you actually asked if you could get a convertible sofa in your room, so he didn’t have to sleep on the floor. It wasn’t too great of an expense so your request was granted. Having him near gave you a certain solace. He was big and he was also rather strong, but he was such a huge teddy bear that he was about as threatening as a kitten. It was comforting, you felt safe.
When Melone and Gihaggio were sent on the suicide mission to go and kidnap Trish. you had tried to beg for the both of them to not go. Both responded that they didn’t have a choice and they had to at least try. Safe to say neither of them came back…
Melo was your favourite teacher because he was funny and always willing to help with anything he could. That ranged from helping you learn more complex Italian that you otherwise wouldn’t have ever gotten, to homework that was otherwise neglected. He also seemed to absolutely adore helping you with the schoolwork that was sent to you, well a post office near you, from a long distance schooling initiative that was set up to help kids like you. Those who couldn’t go to a real school for their own safety. His patience was saintly, and his enthusiasm, seemingly boundless. He never got angry at you for not understanding straight away, and was willing to re-explain everything to you. He also seemed so much happier every second he was with you. You felt appreciated.
Gihaggio was never your favourite person. That was because he was only ever in a bad mood. He was told to help with your education when Melo wasn’t there, this led to quite the tally of near scares. His lashing out was a terror to you, because your father and sister would get like that. When he saw you flinch at his raised fist and yelling, he would redirect and be forced to apologise later by one of the others. It very rarely got to blind rage, and never escalated to violence against you. This was simply due to him knowing that it would be a death sentence from how protective Melone was over her. When forced to apologise he tended to make ice-cream because he: “Has a hard time using his words” as Melone put it.
As Risotto walked out of the door, you couldn’t help but feel as though you were being abandoned. He was the last real member of your family that you had, and he was walking out into a guaranteed death. There was nothing you could do. He was the one who found you; it took a few days to trust him at all. It was a delicate process that took at least four days for you to accept food directly given from him, he had to put it on a tray and step back a few steps. He spoke some pretty all right English so you and him would have fairly regular chats. When you were finally allowed out of the room he helped with translation.
They were your family at the end of the day.
“They would come back eventually. Then we’d all go grab some ice-cream to apologise for leaving me alone for so long.” You muttered to yourself before dozing quietly off.

Hi Simone,
Most of these hairs are actually already converted by the amazing @chazybazzy, @plumdrops, and @nemiga-sims-archive. I suggest you take look at their blogs. You can find a retextured version of Anto Beth here. TsminhSims does not allow people to convert hairs to sims 3, so I won’t convert those two. Simpliciaty Bloom is a Patreon exclusive hair, so I won’t convert that one either. I can look at the remaining hairs, but I am not promising anything because I am still learning and don’t have a lot of time right now.

Wonder Girl #4
Tumblr media
Wonder Girl #4 DC Comics 2021 Written by Joelle Jones Illustrated by Joelle Jones & Adriano Melo Coloured by Jordie Bellaire Lettered by Pat Brosseau    Who are the Esquecida?! With her physical training in full swing, Yara must now look inward. Her childhood in Brazil has always been a mystery, spoken of in hushed tones by her aunt and uncle. What were they not telling her? The answers lie in the Amazon rainforest. But is this young hero ready for the truth? Plus, the two heroes hot on Yara's trail have finally found their target!    Here’s what I was thinking about while reading this: how much time passes on Mount Olympus compared to on Earth?  If she has been training for some time now then that must mean time moves much faster on Olympus.  I say this because seeing her boyfriend in Brazil shows that he didn’t seem to have aged him.  Then again what is the concept of time to Gods anyway?  It is both an odd thing to focus on and completely logical considering what we see within these pages.  Actually I could go on and on about a few other things we see in this book but I don’t want to give out spoilers, suffice it to say however, that learning as much as we do could be dangerous to one's curiosity.  After all, it's what killed the cat once and for all.      I am a huge fan of the way that this is being told.  The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceedingly well.  The character development that we see through the narration, the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how we see them act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter is magnificently portrayed.  That we can see and have such strong views on their personalities is wonderfully achieved.  The pacing is excellent and as it takes us through the pages revealing the story the more pages I wish a single issue held.      I appreciate how we see this being structured and how the layers within the story continue to emerge, grow, evolve and strengthen.  I like seeing how the layers keep opening up new avenues to be explored and the amount of depth, dimension and complexity they add to the story.  How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is impeccably rendered.      The interiors here are mind numbingly bloody gorgeous.  The linework is exquisite and the way it just creates this beauty that oozes off the page through the varying weights and techniques we see bringing this level & quality in the attention to detail to life.  I love seeing backgrounds, although I usually wanna see more but these orange, red and yellow pages don’t necessarily need them.  How they enhance and expand the moments while also working within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and that overall sense of size and scope to the story is magnificently rendered.  The utilisation of the page layouts is innovative at times, and the angles and perspective in the panels shows a masterful eye for storytelling.  The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work shows a brilliant eye for how colour works and how to really make the most impact with their use.     Honestly I hadn’t thought the world needed another Wonder Girl, looks like Batman’s not the only one with multiple folks using the same sidekick mantle.  I was wrong because Yara is a fascinating woman and I'm dying to learn who her father is and where he fits into the pantheons around the world.  I will say that these fine creators have made a convert out of me and I hadn’t thought that would be possible.  Thanks to the quality of the writing, the intensity of the characterisation and these bloody gorgeous interiors really do make for wondrous reading.

Sipping Burgundy and Shotgunning Beers: The Hottest Drinking Trends Inside the ‘NBA Bubble’
Tumblr media
Before reflecting on how Orlando’s Walt Disney World has become the improbable fine wine capital of America, New Orleans Pelicans forward Josh Hart plunges into an 11-minute ice bath. “It is cold alright … shit,” he says, voice rising a few octaves as the sound of ice and water ripples across the cell phone line.
For the next month at least, three hotels at the Florida resort will house the players and staff of 22 NBA teams, with the 2019-2020 season resuming on July 30 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Quarantine life inside the “NBA bubble” has seen the complex’s all-star inhabitants adapt to a surreal new normal: daily coronavirus tests; practice sessions in cavernous, converted conference rooms; pre-packaged meals described as “Fyre Fest 2.0;” and for some, like Hart, nightly fine wine tastings.
“When I’m home, I hang out with my family and my dog, I play video games, and I drink wine,” Hart says. “Being able to share some bottles with teammates and friends from other teams, it gives me a sense of normalcy here.”
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that many NBA stars are unwinding in the bubble with a Zalto glass in hand. In recent years, the blind-tasting skills of players like LeBron James have been almost as well documented as their on-court performances. But with little else to do other than fish, play golf, or stage video game tournaments, players are dropping #bottleshots at the rate they normally convert free throws.
The Yacht Club: the NBA Bubble’s Hub of Fine Wine Drinking
Hart, who is so far topping the leaderboard on wine social media, shares his off-court passion via a recently launched Instagram account, @jhartcellars. Wine-loving basketball fans who’ve caught wind of the account will note that his description of sharing “some bottles” is something of an understatement. Premier cru white Burgundy, vintage Bordeaux (Left and Right Bank), and burly Napa Cabs have taken center stage since #bubblelife began two weeks ago.
How did an oenophile such as Hart prepare for this strangest of summer camps? Well, he started by filling his suitcase with a dozen bottles and scheduled a future delivery. Knowing he would need somewhere to keep those bottles at optimum temperature — something larger than a hotel room mini-fridge — he had a wine fridge shipped to the resort before he arrived. The only thing he forgot? Appropriate glassware. The special 2005 Chateau Montrose Hart packed to get through an initial individual quarantine period sadly had to be sipped from a paper cup. Luckily, Hart has since been able to pick up some crystal stemware. “I wasn’t too much of a fan of the paper cup,” he says
Hart is quick to point out that while he’s brought plenty of choice bottles, he’s also benefited from the generosity of others. Pelicans teammate J.J. Redick has supplied many of the more exclusive wines featured on Hart’s account, such as a 2009 Domaine Ponsot Griotte Chambertin, which retails for an average $400 in the U.S. And when the Disney NBA lockdown reached “Phase 5” on Wednesday, the tasting opportunities seemed poised to increase.
View this post on Instagram
Thanks @jjredick for the wines tonight 🔥 #DomainePonsot
A post shared by Jhart Cellars (@jhartcellars) on Jul 18, 2020 at 3:00pm PDT
Until then, players were restricted to socializing with teammates; contact with other teams was limited to “brief interactions” in common areas. But starting Wednesday, players could socialize with those from other teams based in the same hotel, as long as they don’t enter each other’s rooms. For Hart and Redick, who are based at the Yacht Club, that meant they could now clink glasses with noted wine enthusiasts Carmelo Anthony and CJ McCollum, both of them Portland Trailblazers.
While “Melo” apparently favors ’90s Bordeaux, McCollum brings an even more unique offering to the table. Unlike Hart, McCollum did not have the foresight to schedule delivery of a wine fridge. But in fairness, he was busy making arrangements for another very special shipment: the first bottling of McCollum Heritage 91.
Two years in the making and set to launch to the public in September, McCollum created the 2018 Pinot Noir in partnership with Oregon-based Adelsheim Vineyard. Keen to share his first vintage with fellow wine-loving NBA stars, McCollum says he received permission from the NBA to distribute the wine to players and staff in different hotels when it arrived at the resort.
Sure, there may be some friendly rivalry over who’s opening what — this is a group of cooped-up professional athletes — but McCollum is excited to introduce his wine to the league’s growing ranks of connoisseurs.
“I think people will have a greater appreciation of Oregon Pinot once they taste it,” he says. “If they haven’t tasted [Oregon Pinot] yet, they’re going to get the chance to while they’re here — at least if I have anything to say about it.”
Hundred-Dollar Bottles Beyond the Yacht Club
While the Yacht Club appears to be the hub of fine wine drinking in the bubble, it’s not the only place where exclusive bottles are being dunked.
When LA Lakers center JaVale McGee arrived at the Grand Destino, he shared the goodies waiting for him in his hotel room on a video blog. Included in the branded care package was everything he would need to adapt to quarantine life: official NBA face masks and robes, an Amazon Firestick, a phone sanitizer, a stack of reading material, and a bottle of Freemark Abbey Cabernet Bosche 2013. From the video, it appears that the wine was a gift from the NBA. But it would be nice to think it was instead a “housewarming” present from teammate LeBron James, who has so far been quiet on the Instagram wine front.
Meanwhile, Utah Jazz forward Royce O’Neale, who is also based at the Grand Destino, paired his Friday night dinner with a bottle of former NBA star Yao Ming’s Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Earlier that week, over at the Grand Floridian, Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris toasted his 28th birthday with a bottle of 2018 Caymus, which was gifted to him by Dallas Mavericks center Boban Marjanovic.
Beer in the Bubble
While many NBA players have spent their time in the bubble sharpening blind-tasting skills and sampling classified Bordeaux, not everyone has been drinking wine. Between $400 bottles of white Burgundy, the Pelicans’ Redick also found time to start a bubble trend: shotgunning beer.
It started in the same way many viral social media trends do: Redick was challenged to shotgun a Bud Light by a Twitter account (NBA Bubble Life), if a post received an inflated number of retweets. Redick accepted, setting the limit at 10,000. Twenty-four hours later, he found himself sitting in an ice bath chugging the light beer through a pierced can.
Before long, others got in on the action. That same day, Miami Heat center Meyers Leonard uploaded his own shotgun effort to Instagram. Leonard finished the beer in the blink of an eye after punching a shotgun-cartridge-sized hole in a 12-ounce Coors Light. Multiple other players have since shared their own attempts, with varying levels of success, but often inside the now-familiar setting of the ice bath.
But for the Pelicans’ Hart, fine wine remains the beverage of choice. “The beauty of wine is being able to bring people together, whether it’s people from different teams, different professions, or different racial backgrounds,” he says.
With play set to continue until mid-October for the two teams that ultimately reach the NBA Finals, there will be plenty of opportunities to share more bottles. Hart even has a few “heavy hitters” stashed away in his fridge, which he’s saving for if and when the Pelicans reach the playoffs.
In the meantime, the real winners will be those watching the action unfold as #bottleshots meets #bubblelife on wine Instagram.

Rose’s Captain Swan Fanfiction Treasure Trove
This mainly for my lovely friend Adira (who I JUST converted to OUAT) but might well post it for anyone who hasn’t read any of these fics. I would be surprised if they hadn’t because the majority of these have high popularity and would be what I consider classics. I love them all enough that I’ve downloaded them on my Evernote app and will reread them while I’m flying or on public transit. Anyway, these are my Top Ten favorite Captain Swan fics with my reviews/comments. Enjoy
You Play Ball Like a Girl by welllpthisishappening
Rated: M
Notable Features: Modern!AU, Boss!Killian, Slow Burn, Angst, Baseball & Killian (deadly as hell)
Author’s Description: Emma Swan had a plan. Get the story. Get the byline. Up her Twitter follower count. It was simple – she was going to take over the New York City journalism world. And she was going to do it from the sideline with a credential around her neck and a pen stuffed in her hair and a fierce determination no one was going to be able to put a dent in.It was the perfect plan. That plan just failed to factor in Killian Jones.
Rose’s Review: THIS FIC! MY GOD THIS FIC! I am in love with it and the author Laura (like full one girl crush on lovely lady. She’s just too cool and if I wasn’t engaged and she wasn’t married, I would like propose because this girl is my fanfic soulmate to the point my best friend is jealous even tho I have legit never met this woman, but that’s besides the point. I’m gonna stop embarrassing myself now. I need to shut up.) Anyway, sports centric isn’t normally a thing I go for because I’m a former athlete and the second I catch a mistake it’s an immediate turnoff, but Laura knows her shit. (Like really knows her shit. I can’t tell you how many times I cackled over her references to Melo being a selfish asshole and I love Emma and David’s rendition of the Giants/Pats rivalry! Also her reference to Derek Jeter’s walk up! OMG I promise I will stop right now but I’m so in love) However, you don’t need to love sports to love this fic, it’s just if you do it’s an added bonus. I love the development of Killian and Emma’s relationship even though the angst in this just kills me in the most delightful way. The Henry side story is honestly the best thing over and even though he’s not Emma’s son in this, the relationship between Emma, Henry and Killian really pulls at your heartstrings. I think one of the reasons I really love this fic though is how Laura handles Killian’s injury and how it affected his baseball career. It was incredibly realistic and I would know because an injury ruined my basketball career a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, so the scene where Killian is in the batting cage and hitting for the first time in a long time really hit home with me because I’ve been there. Anyway, why are you still reading this review, GO READ IT NOW! And also go read her outtake collection: Just a Bit Outside.
Breathless by AcrobatElle
Rated: E
Notable Features: Canon Divergence (Season 5), Heart Sharing, Magic, Amazing Amounts of Smut, Angst, PORN WITH FEELINGS
Author’s Description: Emma and Killian share more than just a heart.
Rose’s Review: To say I love smut is an understatement and I’ve been reading it long enough that I no longer have any shame in regards to it. This fic is, without a doubt, a masterclass at what we call Porn with Feelings (IT FUCKING DESTROYS ME). It’s not just smut, but emotional and creative smut which is my absolute favorite. (Dude, I legit fanned myself at Chapter 2 because it was just so smutty and hot. I almost want to beg Elle to write “that one time on the Jolly” scene because my inner perv just needs it because dom!Killian is just as much my jam as baseball!Killian is but she’s got more important things to work on. Harbor in the Tempest? GO READ IT NOW!) Also I never felt so melancholic about smut until reading the later chapters of this fic because the layers of desperation, hurt and brokenness is just so poignant that it just grips your heart. Elle in general though is just amazing at smut and everything else really (just read all of her shit. Do it. And if you’re already read her shit, read it again because she’s amazing) but this is my favorite of her work, though her Wish!Realm AU is a really, really, really close second. (Legit would have made this list if I wasn’t such a lazy bastard. I was going to rec 15 but got lazy and chopped off at 10 because I’m horrible but yeah go read Make a Wish, especially if you were not happy with Wish!Hook because I sure as hell wasn’t.)
Unbreakable by xHookedonKillianx
Rated: M
Notable Features: Canon Divergence (Season 3), Bartender!Killian, Pregnancy, Fluffy Angst, Epilogue that murders you
Author’s Description: What if Hook was able to go with Emma and Henry when they left to escape Pan’s curse? With no memory of each other or Storybrooke, Emma and Killian meet in New York as complete strangers, both with broken pasts, and both with clean slates for their future.
Rose’s Review: I feel think this fic is on every fic rec list and if it isn’t, then it should be because it’s just so well done. It’s just –whale noises- so fluffy but angsty at the same time that it really murders you in the delightful. I personally loved all the references to the monumental moments in the canon being mirrored or echoed unknowingly by Killian and Emma during their time in New York, it’s just a really cool tid bit. Honestly what I love the most about this is the Captain Cobra bonding, even more than the Captain Swan moments. The fact that Killian bonds so much with Henry to the point where they still hung out while Emma and Killian were “on a break” (I refuse to think of it as a break up and wanted to make a Friends reference because I’m lame) just murdered my soul in the best way possible. I love Henry (he’s my little munchkin so I get super annoyed when fics essentially ignore his existence. I have legit stopped reading fics before because they ignored Henry) and he is without a doubt the center of the Swan-Jones family unit in this fic. I really loved the addition of Mac as a supportive character from Killian’s past and almost wish he was featured more in the story. Also I must say this is one of the very few fics that I’ve come across where Neal isn’t a complete and utter douche canoe. This is definitely one of those fics that is like a must-read for the Captain Swanners regardless of what you think of kid!fic.
Beyond the Horizon by alexandralyman
Rated: M
Notable Features: Enchanted Forrest!AU, Pirates, Princess!Emma, Faked Married
Author’s Description: When Princess Emma's ship is captured by the Jolly Roger and Captain Killian Jones, she offers herself as a hostage for ransom if he will let the ship and the other passengers go. With Emma, Killian remembers the honour he once held dear, and Emma catches glimpses of the gentleman Killian had been. Against all odds, the pirate and the princess begin to fall for each other.
Rose’s Review: Beyond the Horizon is the first Captain Swan fic I ever read and it really set the bar high. This is fic is unfinished and I am eagerly, eagerly waiting for it to reach conclusion. I don’t normally recommend fics that aren’t finished, but this is just so, so, so good that I can’t let my hang ups get in the way of recommending it for others to enjoy. I love the development of Killian and Emma in this story, and between Emma and the Jolly crew as she falls into the role as the mistress of the ship. (I legit just want to cuddle Fergus, he’s just so cute.) Anyway, I am really curious and eager to see where she takes the fic because it was my first and without a doubt one of my favorites. I have a massive need for Pirate!Captain Swan (and a massive lady boner for actual Pirate!Killian) and this is what started it.) Just –grabby hands- I want it finished so bad, but regardless this is worth a read because it’s wonderfully written and it will suck you right in. If you’re left begging for more like I was at the end of this, I encourage you to check out her outtakes collection: Interlude at Sea.
A One Time Thing (and Other Untruths) by weezly14
Rated: T
Notable Features: Modern!AU, Pregnancy, Slow Burn-ish, Mild Angst
Author’s Description: "She supposes the reason she tells him is the same reason she kept his phone number after all those weeks." Pregnancy has a way of throwing a wrench in one's plans.
Rose’s Review: Oh man, oh man, where do I start with this one because this is just a pile of angst, fluff and slow burn goodness. I totally get Emma’s headspace in this because if I ever found myself in her situation, I would probably make the same decisions she did in regards to Killian, but KILLIAN, oh man, his thoughts and feelings about becoming a dad slayed me. He just wants to be there and be with Emma so bad. This fic also has probably want I would consider to be the best characterization of Neal. I’m not a Neal fan in any sense of the word, but I’m not a fan over the top villianization (is that even a word? I’m pretty sure it isn’t but if Shakespeare and GWB can make up words, so can I!) of him. This depiction of Neal is perfect in my eyes because it’s very obvious that all of his dickishness based upon genuine fear that Killian is gonna replace him and that Emma is going to take Henry away from him, which in all honestly, as someone who worked in the Family Court system, this is a realistic and very common fear when there is a power imbalance between parents. (Not that I think that the power imbalance isn’t justified because it totally is.) If Neal lived longer in the series, I definitely think the relationship between Emma, Neal and Killian would have been exactly like this. So if you’re looking for realistic parent dynamics and Daddy!Killian feels, this is the fic for you (and even if it isn’t, read it because you won’t regret it.)
I Belong To You, You Belong to Me by phthalo
Rated: M
Notable Features: Canon Divergence (Season 5-6), Pregnancy, Time Travel characters, Bartender!Killian
Author’s Description: Three weeks after dragging your boyfriend's sorry ass out of the Underworld is not the ideal time to find out you're pregnant. It's probably also not the ideal time for Zelena's time portal to spit out some kid...a teenage boy with blonde hair and Killian's eyes.
Rose’s Review: I’m going to admit it now, I was rather dubious about this fic because of the description. I love me some baby!fic/pregnancy fic and I headcanon it all the time, but kids and time travel always stuck me funny (even in Charmed which was my fucking jam before anything else in life was) but I glanced at the kudos and the amount of comments, and thought to myself “well, if this many people like it, then there has got to be something good going on here!” And holy shit, I loved Ian. (I now officially headcanon that Emma and Killian’s eldest son is named Killian David Jones. It just needs to happen because it’s fucking perfect and there’s just too many Liams.) Ian is just a little snarky bae and I really loved the relationship between Henry and Ian. (Operation: Octopus for the win) They’re my perfect little babies. Also the amount of sass Ian sends towards Killian reminds me a lot of my own relationship with my father. (I’m such a shit to him but we’re super close and I’m legit terrified of pissing him off even though I’m fucking 23 years old. Ian also emulates that.)This fic played on a lot of my headcanons (like Captain Swan definitely banging in a field of flowers and totally escaping to bang in the Jolly) and I found Emma’s fears about Dark!Baby and her decisions around that to be completely in character. Killian is just a fucking saint (he’s not, but he definitely has the patience of one) and his understanding of Emma’s headspace in this (and in the show) is one of my favorites. All and all, this story is so massively fluffy that it makes up for all the angst that I read normally. Domestic!Captain Swan is slowly becoming my jam.
With Affection by PhiraLovesLoki
Rated: E
Notable Features: Modern!AU, Secret Admirers, Love Letters, Sassy!Emma, Lawyer!Killian
Author’s Description: Emma Swan isn’t a middle schooler. So why is she receiving notes from a secret admirer? She’s also definitely not a romantic person. So why is she writing back?
Rose’s Review: Oh…my…god…this fic. This fic is just -whale noises- fucking everything. I love it. The snark, the romance and Tink! This is my favorite characterization of Tink! Also this characterization of Emma hit so close to home with me because I legit make up nicknames for everyone in my life even people I never approach (legit everyone in my phone is under a different name. I legit call my mother Madam President Furher because she’s a hard ass and my younger brother is Moose because he’s just a giant but that’s besides the point) so the fact that Emma did that just cracked me up. This is definitely the fic where I bonded the most or felt the most connection to Emma. I love reading for this Emma’s headspace. It’s legit a joy to read. Killian is amazing as usual. I love his letters to Emma, especially the ones where he got more authentic. Walsh, though, gave me flashbacks to my own failed relationships and break ups. I literally had a break up similar to the one that Emma has with Walsh so bravo though for douche bag realism with Walsh. Both of Killian’s and Emma’s backstories are heartbreaking in this and the level of intimacy without actual intimacy (until later on of course) is just astounding. Phira is amazing writer in general and I really recommend you read all of her works, but if you had to choose one, this is the one to read. It just hits you all over the place with feels, humor and realism. Once again, why are you still reading this review, go read the damn fic!
Separate Lives by lenfaz
Rated: M
Notable Features: Canon Divergence (Season 3), Fairy Tale Characters in the Real World, Detective!Killian, Angst,
Author’s Description: Set after 3x20 "Kansas". After saving the town one more time, Emma decided to return to New York, leaving her past behind. Three years later, she realizes that might be not have been the best decision.
Rose’s Review: I’m not sure if lenfaz reads Janet Evanovich or the Stephanie Plum novels, but legit this story was giving me some Stephanie Plum realness with Detective!Killian and BailBonds!Emma. Except this is better than Stephanie Plum because Emma is just far more bad ass and mature (though relationship-wise is very Stephanie like.) Killian as a detective was complete roguish Joe Morelli realness in the best way. I really loved the addition of Killian being adopted into an Italian family and their protectiveness of him. Laura and her family made me crack up with all the references to him getting a haircuit. (Please don’t, Killian, I love you with longer hair.) It warmed my heart in the best way. I also loved the relationship between Killian and his partner. Killian almost never has anyone in his corner (which is a HUGE point of contention for me in the show because despite Emma’s loner-ness, EVERYONE is in her corner and Killian has like zero support and nothing made that more evident that 6x15, which slayed me in the worst way possible because I fucking love Killian.) Mac, Killian’s partner, is one of my favorite OCs of all time and I loved that he calls him “sunshine.” (Dude, I need the story behind that one so if you haven’t written it, please do. I will even slip you a twenty.)

Notable Features: Canon Divergence (Season 3), Kid Fic, Fluff, Daddy!Killian
Author’s Description: In a flash of rainbow light, Emma remembers.
Rose’s Review: Surprise, surprise, kid/baby!fic on my reccomendation list. Yes, I realize that only a niche amount of fans like this type of fic, but honestly this is one of the best done baby fics I have seen. I think the best thing about it is that Emma’s focus the entire time is completely on her children and not on romance, which is realistic and should be expected. Her focus is not 100% on Killian, which tends to be done and honestly those type of fics turn me off. She comes off very realistic to me and that’s what I love the most about this. What’s also really cool about this fic is the engagement with the original source material - Peter Pan and the allusions made between what’s happening in the fic and the mechanics of the original play (clever girl!) Also, the way they deal with Zelena in this fic is honestly how I felt they should have dealt with the character on the show. Not that I hate Zelena (well maybe I do..kinda…sorta…the jury is still out on that one) but I always found their approach to the situation to be strange.
Strangeness & Charm by bluestoplights

Notable Features: Enchanted Forrest!AU, Battle Couple!Captain Swan, Adventure, Slow Burn
Author’s Description: Killian Jones is a pirate captain down on his luck after a falling out with the Evil Queen. Emma Swan just found out she is the Savior. Their shared goals bring them on an epic quest to liberate the kingdom once and for all. It's a lot easier said than done.
Rose’s Review: Not only is this beautifully written and engaging, but I seriously want there to be like a television series based off this one. Seriously, I loved it and the pacing of it would be perfect for season one of a really epic fantasy show (which I would totally watch the shit out of it and that scrape the internet for fic or maybe even finally get off my lazy ass and write fanficfor the first time since high school.) The pacing on this thing is on point. I am completely envious because I am such a slow build up writer that I couldn’t pull off something like this in only twenty-four chapters. I loved Killian and Emma’s partnership in this and how everyone just knew they were a perfect pair…except them. What I also love about this fic is that the author really seems to understand the tone of Once Upon a Time really well and stays very true to it. Not that this is a dig on other authors who go lighter or darker, but it’s a fic that seems very in tune with it’s source material which is a very rare find. I really loved the ending of this fic but at the same time I would be super excited if the author decided to write a sequel.

The Rebooted Carmelo Anthony: Same as He Ever Was
NEW ORLEANS — Carmelo Anthony came to shoot on Tuesday night for the Portland Trail Blazers. And then he shot some more, often from midrange. There was some Good Melo, like when he bullied a defender and hit one of his patented pull-up jumpers from just outside the foul line. There was lots of Not So Good Melo: bricked, inefficient shots combined with turnovers and fouls. But whatever it was, this was the quintessential Anthony experience. As the catchphrase associated with him might put it: Anthony stayed Melo.
“I’m here now. That’s what’s important,” Anthony told reporters after the game. “Portland pulled the trigger and no matter what happens, I will always appreciate that.”
While the Trail Blazers waited until just before the game to announce that he would be starting, Anthony said that the team’s brass offered the starting job up front when they called at the end of last week. Right when Anthony’s long career appeared to be over, Portland offered a lifeline: a one-year, veteran minimum contract that only becomes guaranteed if he stays on the roster past Jan. 7.
“That was a miscommunication about my past couple seasons about what my role would be and what they were expecting from me,” Anthony said, seemingly referring to his two most recent teams, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets, the latter of which cut him after 10 games. “That was a big point, me talking to those guys. Let’s be transparent. It’s not nothing that I won’t be able to do, but just let me know up front.”
It was clear after Anthony’s first performance that he is a work in progress. He shot 4 of 14 for 10 points, along with five fouls, five turnovers and several lapses on defense. Asked whether Anthony would remain in the starting lineup, Coach Terry Stotts said before the game, “I don’t see why not,” and added that it had not been necessary to have an extended discussion with Anthony about what his role was.
It’s easy to chalk up Anthony’s first performance to rust, but he didn’t actually look rusty. He was able to get to his spots — often posting up or in the midrange. He just couldn’t convert very often. His stat line from Tuesday wasn’t too dissimilar from what he was doing for Houston a year ago, and Anthony acknowledged he had some adjusting to do.
“Within a year, the game has changed. The physicality of the game has changed,” Anthony said.
What is clear is that Anthony is not going to fade into the background the way veterans like Vince Carter, Ray Allen and Andre Iguodala have done in their later years.
In Carter’s prime in particular, he was faced with many of the same criticisms as Anthony. But by picking his spots and accepting a bench role with zero complaint, Carter has extended his career well into his 40s.
But that’s not Anthony.
He’s not one to be tentative on the floor. Good or bad, Anthony’s presence is to be felt. On Tuesday, his 14 shots were the second most on the team, despite his playing only 24 minutes with minimal familiarity with his teammates and the offense. He had zero assists in Portland’s 115-104 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. (Part of his high usage was because Damian Lillard was out with back spasms.)
This means that Portland, in a season already teetering on the brink with a 5-10 record, needs to be careful about this gamble. Anthony has nothing to lose. He’s 35 years old without the same athleticism he had a decade ago — and plays a style of basketball more suited for that decade. How much string does Stotts give Anthony if he doesn’t adjust quickly? And what if, despite Anthony’s protestations to the contrary, the ability to adjust is just not there? But as of right now, Stotts is all in.
“I would anticipate that he’s going to play the way he’s played his entire career,” Stotts said after the game. Given what we’ve seen in recent years from Anthony and how basketball has changed, is this a good thing?
In some ways, Anthony, a no-doubt-about-it Hall of Famer, is a perfect fit for this year’s version of the Trail Blazers. He made his living in his prime as a prolific scorer who thrived in isolations — meaning players opting to go one-on-one against man defenses — at a time when this type of game was in vogue.
Portland is second in the N.B.A. this year in isolations, according to the N.B.A.’s tracking numbers, behind only the Houston Rockets. This kind of attack puts less emphasis on ball movement, cuts to the basket and set plays. It has resulted in a league-average offense for the Blazers. Maybe Anthony is the antidote to this, but last year, Portland wasn’t even in the top-10 in isolations and had one of the best offensive teams in the N.B.A.
It’s clear that Portland needs something. Coming off a Western Conference finals run last year, the Blazers are mired in a rut. They will hopefully get back Jusuf Nurkic at some point this season, a bruising center who, in the midst of a career year, fractured his leg last March. But the franchise still looks significantly different from last season: The team traded away role players like Meyers Leonard and Maurice Harkless. Seth Curry and Al-Farouq Aminu left as free agents. None of the players that left Portland are lighting up the stats sheets on their new teams — but culturally, they fit in with what Stotts was trying to do.
In their place is Hassan Whiteside, an excellent rebounder and shot blocker with limited offensive capability. He has been the frequent target of critics who have said for years that his effort is lacking and that his statistics are empty. Other players, like Anthony Tolliver and Mario Hezonja, are also new additions trying to help take the load off Lillard and C.J. McCollum.
So maybe Anthony is the answer. The Blazers certainly need another playmaker, and Anthony is willing to make plays. Sometimes that’s enough to juice an offense. But it is worth considering whether any inefficient shot that Anthony takes is one that might be better taken by someone else — perhaps a better shooter like Tolliver, who did not see the court against the Pelicans.
On Tuesday afternoon, Anthony offered some insight as to why he chose the jersey number “00” instead of his typical No. 7. He posted an image to Instagram — one side of it was his face with a hoodie on (Anthony’s sweatshirt wearing has become ubiquitous enough that it’s part of his image). Opposite that was a list of lines apparently relating to his new number. They included: “A number greater than any assignable quantity or countable number,” “Without end” and “Process that never stops.” There were other, more abstract lines like, “The mysticism of our past and the possibility for an eternal future give the infinity symbol a sense of awe and wonder,” followed by “Infinite Nature of (God)7.”
But one line stood out more clearly than any other: “The chance to have a new and great beginning with the past left behind where it belongs.”
Anthony, and several of his friends from around the league, are thrilled he’s back. As they should be: Talents like Anthony are rare, and it’s a treat to see them when we can. It’s just a question of whether this will lead to wins for Portland.
After the game, Anthony discussed his “low point” since the Rockets exiled him to a Basketball No Man’s Land in November 2018. Teams weren’t calling. His Hall of Fame legacy was at stake.
“There was a time where I actually thought that I was about to let go a love of my life,” Anthony said. He talked about being at peace with whatever became of his career, but that he had to first “get over that hump mentally and emotionally.”
But he got past that point. The exact moment?
“The call, 72 hours ago,” Anthony said with a smile.

Dig into digital illustration with Procreate
While there are plenty of digital painting and illustration apps out on the market today, one that regularly rises to the top amongst the creative crowd is Procreate. With an intuitive interface and (let’s be honest) a cheap price tag, this iPad app is on of my favorites and it empowers artists everywhere to take their digital sketches on the go.
In this article, I’ll go over Procreate’s key features, recommend some of my favorite Skillshare classes to familiarize you with the app, and introduce ways to incorporate it into your workflow.

So, what is Procreate? _
Procreate is a digital painting app designed exclusively for mobile, which means it’s been optimized for you to start sketching whenever the mood strikes. To use the app, you’ll need to have access to an iPad and an Apple Pencil and download the app from the Apple Store.
The app is most known for having an intuitive workflow, where designers navigate through brush libraries, layers and effects using finger gestures and customized Apple Pencil strokes. You can easily save, organize and export your artwork in a variety of file formats. I use Procreate for most of my designs.
Here’s a look at a few of the key features:
Import & export files
Procreate can easily be incorporated into your existing workflow. The app supports most major image formats, so you can bring in photos and existing design files to tweak within the app.
If you want to finish your piece up on a desktop computer, you can export it as a layered PSD file and make the final touches in Photoshop.
If you need to vectorize your drawing (maybe you’re working on a logo, pattern or hand lettering), you can switch off the background layer in Procreate and export the artwork as a PNG. Then simply open the file in Adobe Illustrator and convert it into a vector using Image Trace.
Experiment with brushes
Mix and match the Shape and Grain to create your own custom brushes. Image via the Procreate Artist Handbook.
Procreate has a well-stocked library of more than 130 brushes, so you should be able to find some brushes that suit your style.
Each brush is split into two elements: Shape and Grain. The Shape is the container that houses the Grain. The Grain is what’s rolled onto the canvas (anything from a basic pattern or texture to an imported image or photo).
Once you get comfortable with the default library, the real fun starts. Each brush is comprised of 52 editable settings, including dynamic settings based on things like the speed of your stroke and your applied pen pressure.
From there you can customize the way you want to blend paint colors and build up opacity, charge your brush to naturally run out of paint, and experiment with other techniques.
Save time & design faster
Experiment with an isometric perspective in your next design. Illustration by Maxim Andreev.
Like most digital painting apps, Procreate alleviates many of the common issues you typically hit when putting pencil to paper.
Mistakes can be fixed by simply hitting “undo” or deleting a layer. Small inconsistencies can be manipulated or wiped away using a variety of filters. The StreamLine feature ensures your strokes are smooth and stabilized (this is great for designers who want their lettering to look flawless).
You can also ditch the time-consuming process of building out vanishing points and complicated guidelines by hand. If you switch on the Drawing Guides mode, you can build out snappable grids for all kinds of perspectives. The QuickLine feature lets you snap your strokes into straight lines with your finger, while Drawing Assist will constrain your strokes to the 2D, isometric or perspective guide you’ve created.
Show off your creative process
Let’s be honest… This feature is the crowd favorite by far.
A recorded timelapse of digital wallpaper by Fe Melo
You can switch on Time-lapse recording to create high res, time-lapse videos of your process from initial sketch to final piece. If you want to make a few fixes discreetly, just pause the recording and turn it back on when you’re ready.
Once it’s ready, import your time-lapse into a video editing app to add music, edit the clip and add your personal branding. Then share it with the world!
If you’re building out a professional brand or looking to gain more exposure, consider making these kinds of videos a staple on social channels like Instagram and YouTube. It’s always inspiring for fans (and prospective clients) to see how the pros create their artwork.

Golden State Warriors
So this off-season the Warriors mimicked Thanos in Infinty War to take it’s reign over the league to another level, while the other teams got their Star Lord on, allowing GS to obtain the last Infinity Stone, also known as Demarcus Cousins. Just like fans wanted to slap Star Lord, we should challenge our favorite teams’ GM to a duel for just sitting idle while the Dubs signed Boogie for the mid-level exception. It’s not hyperbole to say this is the best starting five ever. We may only witness this collection of stars for one season, with the rumblings of a KD departure and the inability to give a max contract to Cousins under league rules, this reign could be over with a snap of the finger. If that fate comes to fruition, the damage will already be done, as the Dubs will more than likely win their 4th title in 5 years and cement themselves as one of the top dynasties the NBA has ever seen.
Player to Watch - Can KD win a MVP on this stacked squad Record - 63-19
Tumblr media
Los Angeles Lakers
The Magic Man has been dropping dimes in La La Land for almost 40 years, so it’s only fitting he assisted the Lakers in escaping basketball purgatory. Magic has brought Lebron James aka Maximus to battle in the Staples Center Colosseum. As if Laker Nation wasn’t already entertained by past Gladiators, like the great Black Mamba, the Big Aristotle, or the Goliath known as Wilt the Stilt, Maximus is here to restore past Showtime glory. To earn his freedom he must win the crowd and raise another banner to the rafters. King James will rely on some fiery young fighters looking to make a name for themselves in Ball, Kuzma, Ingram and Hart. He will seek wisdom from another gladiator, Rajon Rondo to help in his journey, but it will be up to Magic to bring in another established soldier to help the true King bring the trophy back to the Roman Laker Nation in the near future. It is why we are here.
Player to Watch - Which Youngblood with be Lebron’s right hand man Record 53-29
Tumblr media
Los Angles Clippers
Jerry West is the Professor X of the NBA, the behind the scene orchestrator of multiple dynastic teams. But he will need to tap into his cerebral vortex to make the Clippers a champs. The Logo will find a way to rebuild this team quickly, his reputation speaks for itself. It’s safe to either rookie Shai Gilegous-Alexander or Jerome Robinson, if not both, will be steals in the draft because West always finds gems. They have set themselves for the future with the space for two max contracts and tradable assets like Tobias Harris, Sweet Lou and Patrick Beverly to land a disgruntled star. The Clippers window to jack the city from the Lakers came and went, so they might as well just head north to Seattle, bring back the Sonics and establish a new where they will be loved and embraced forever. Can’t be a side piece forever.
Player to watch - Will Shai Gileous-Alexander be the best point guard of the draft class Record- 34-48
Tumblr media
Phoenix Suns
GM Ryan McDonough caught the Jim Buss Holy Ghost during the off-season. His grand scheme of paying 35 million for the combo of Trevor Ariza and Ryan Anderson to help lead them to the playoffs was just delusional. It’s reminiscent of the Infamous summer of 16 and the tragedy that was the Deng and Mosgov. Trading an unprotected 1 st to move up 6 spots into the mid lottery is borderline criminal. The Suns won the lottery and added some solid young buildings blocks in Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, Eli Okobo and Deanthony Melton, but Robert Sarver had enough. The fact that McDonough once had too many talented point guards to make happy a few years back to not having a starting caliber lead guard was too much to overcome. Sarver should’ve done it weeks ago so he focus on partying at the country club. Luckily Phoenix has a human bucket machine in Devin Booker, that they can convert to the point and hopefully create James Harden 2.0
Player to Watch - Can Ayton justify being the 1 st of the draft from day one Record 24-48
Tumblr media
Sacramento Kings
This is the dawn of the post apocalyptic season for the Kings faithful and they can look no further than the self proclaimed Vladefather. He is literally out here making offers teams can’t refuse, like giving up an unprotected 1 st rounder for the opportunity to sign Rajon Rondo, Wes Matthews or Monta Ellis. That’s insanity. Clearly Vlade’s favorite of the Godfather trilogy was the third rendition and he’s using his platform to create his own spoof. Yet again the Kings failed to add the necessary talent to even sniff the playoffs so it’s all about development this season. They have a little bit of hope with sleeper prospect Harry Giles. If he can stay healthy and continues to build off his promising performance during summer league they may have stumbled upon a gold mine. Fox has a nice future and Marvin Bagley should be able to score with ease considering his skill set. It’s not all bad for the Kings from a talent perspective but remember they are by far the worst team in the West and don’t have their pick. The Vlad-Father better avoid the desert.
Player to Watch – Will Marvin Bagley’s collegiate dominance translate to the pro game Record 20-62
Northwest Division
Tumblr media
Utah Jazz
The meteoric rise of Donovan Mitchell was one of the highlights of the 2017-18 season. Watching Spida Mitchell during his rookie campaign was eerily similar to Peter Parker testing out his web slinging potential, as he gradually realized he was a problem for the league. His coming out party came during a surprise upset against the Thunder in the 1 st round, where he looked virtually unstoppable. Now that he’s knows he has great powers, he has the responsibility of building on the momentum and lead the Jazz even further in the postseason. When Rudy Gobert is healthy, Utah is the most menacing defensive in the NBA, so as long as he stays on the court they will be successful. The Jazz had a quiet offseason, so they are clearly banking on their young talent taking a leap. We will see if one of the best coaches in the league, Quinn Snyder will help lead them to the next level.
Player to Watch - Is Donovan Mitchell at the superstar level yet Record 52-30
Tumblr media
OKC Thunder
Russell Westbrook isn’t human, he’s not a mutant either, but he is Wolverine. He’s virtually indestructible and although will miss the start of the year no one is overly concerned considering he is made out of adamantium steel. Even Wolverine needs time to regenerate. Year 2 of the Westbrook and PG13 duo will be drastically different and more successful than the first. Now that their roles will be more defined, Russ and George should thrive and play off each other more effectively in the half court without the task of sharing shots with Hoodie Melo. Defensively, this team could be a juggernaut once Andre Robertson gets into the fold, but even without him they can still be great. The addition of Dennis Schroeder was a sneaky move that will no doubt ease the burden of Westbrook and allow him to attack off ball and be able to score more freely. OKC is a sleeper WCF contender.
Player to Watch - Dennis Schroeder can be the third scorer this has desperately needed Record 47-35
Tumblr media
Portland Trail Blazers
The Blazers are wasting the prime years of Dame Lillard. The second round is this team’s ceiling and it shouldn’t be that way. It’s absolute travesty that Neil Olshey has failed to add the necessary pieces to help out his star studded backcourt. Portland needs a third star, but Olshey refuses to go all in to add one. Cough, Jimmy Butler, cough? The roster has an odd mix of players either ready for prime time or years a way from contributing. Portland needs 3 and D wings, but Olshey fails to address that gaping hole. The roster has taken a set back in a conference that is becoming increasingly more difficult to stay afloat. Maybe Mystique can warn Olshey the sentinels are coming to take Lillard to brighter lights and alter the fate of Portland. Otherwise the writing is on the wall. A miracle needs to happen for Blazers’ fans quickly or their future days are going to be spent reminiscing about the past dominance of Dame Time.
Player to Watch - Can CJ McCollum become an All Star Record 47-35
Tumblr media
Denver Nuggets
The Joker is the main reason why we should all take the the Nuggets playoff hopes so serious. Jokic flipped a switch and just blew up last season showing off his unique point-center skill set, reminiscent of another great international center, Arvydas Sabonis. Now it’s up to his backcourt, Jamal Murray and Gary Harris to take this team to the next level. Murray has the ability to be the go to scorer but he has to bring it every night. Denver have a plethora of young players that can get buckets, but they need to buckle down on defense. Coach Malone gained notoriety for his defensive philosophy, so it’s time for him to step up and earn that rep if this squad wants to be a serious contender in the West.
Player to Watch – The Rise of Jamal Murray Record 44-38
Tumblr media
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Jimmy Butler saga has wrecked the Wolves’ season before it even started. When Butler exposed Towns and Wiggins for being shook ones, halfway crooks, scared to death, scared to look, it was a wrap. The stakes were already high for KAT coming off his disappearing act in his first playoff appearance but his reputation as an upcoming superstar is on the line. Is he minor or major, a true star or just a stat stuffer are the questions that will be answered by seasons’ end. Thibs is undoubtedly stubborn but he has pull the trigger on a Butler deal before he loses all the leverage for the All NBA performer. Thibs will more than likely going lose his job after the season and so next just ride or die with Jimmy and disregard the future. If that happens it will this will be a lost year for the Wolves. If KAT and Wiggins have any heart they better show it now or the will never shake the soft label.
Player to Watch - Make or break year for Andrew Wiggins Record 37-45
Southwest Division
Tumblr media
Houston Rockets
Daryl Morey, why not just bring it back, rewind, pon de replay on a roster that was a CP3 injury away from knocking off the evil empire. This was a confusing off-season for the Rockets, by letting Ariza and Mbah a Moute walk, they lost the defensive switch abilities that made them so special. Adding T.R.O.Y Olympic Melo would’ve been perfect if they maintained there defensive prowess but without it, the squad has taken an unnecessary step back. They will still be in the top 2 or 3 record wise in the West but their championship hopes have dwindled significantly. Morey is a wizard with trades, so it’s a possibility the Rockets still have a chance. I highly doubt Houston will stand pat, the question is will whatever move they make be enough to get one of those rings and things they sing about.
Player to Watch - Can Cp3 avoid his injury playoff curse Record 59-23
Tumblr media
New Orleans Pelicans
The theme song for the Pelicans is Biggie’s “One More Chance” but the writing may already be on the wall. Even if the Brow plays at a historic level, New Orleans won’t even make the WCF. Shunning Boogie during free agency was a head scratcher because he was the only chance of pairing the Brow with an elite talent, even with his recent injury history, they had to bring him back. While they were successful without Cousins by playing at the fastest pace in the league and added a perfect compliment to that style of ball in the summer in Julius Randle, it’s just not enough to put them in chip contention. The holes at the wing position and the lack of a second guard will be this squad’s downfall. This season is shaping up to be a long kiss goodnight for the Pellies (turrrbile nickname) with AD signing with Klutch Sports, the rumblings off a Showtime Introduction with the Brow singing “I’m going, going, back, back to Cali, Cali” is on deck.
Player to Watch – Is Playoff Jrue the real Jrue Holiday Record 45-37
Tumblr media
San Antonio Spurs
The death of a dynasty is upon us all. Jay-Z once said “It’s a secret society, all we ask is trust,”and within a season we saw that trust erode in San Antonio, thus tarnishing what is known as the Spurs Way in the process. Acquiring the somehow grossly undervalued bucket getter Demar Derozen for a disgruntled Kawhi Leonard was actually a great pickup during the summer. Ask Thibs if he would take that now. The problem that the Spurs have is surprisingly identity. With Kawhi, Parker, Ginobli, and the long gone Duncan, the framework of the championship blueprint is now absent. Pop is looking around the locker room like Will in the last episode of Fresh Prince. The injuries to Dejounte Murray, Lonnie Walker, and Derrick White couldn’t have came at a worst time, leaving them scary thin of playmakers on the roster. The Spurs 21 year playoff run is officially in serious jeopardy. I’ll never count out Popovich, but he needs to find a point guard ASAP to salvage this season.

Memphis Grizzlies
Running out this Grizzlies team is like churning out another Fast & Furious, we just roll are eyesand say to ourselves “ Really, another one.” The Grit n Grind crew still has familiar faces on the cast, but the culture is gone and it was replace with nothing but random pieces. The biggest flaw with this teamhas been outside shooting which still hasn’t been addressed which is a Tyrese-like head scratcher. Their best bet is to flip Gasol and Conley so they can get value for their aging stars. The West is so stacked, Memphis would have to play out of their minds to sniff the playoffs. Going out on a limb here but the Slow Mo and Garrett Temple acquisitions just don’t seem like enough to do it.

Dallas Mavericks
The Mavs are trying to reboot their success with another international phenom after 20 plus years of the same mega star. Dirk was the Dark Knight of European prospects and nothing will top his epic trilogy. Luka Doncic will have to mimic Bain’s childhood rise from the prison to even challenge the reign of his predecessor. There’s a ton of hype surrounding Luka, but Dallas will be satisfied if he is just a Michael Keaton type of Bruce Wayne, but if he is on that Ben Aflek level, the Mavericks are in trouble. Deandre Jordan finally escaped the barricaded door of the Clippers franchise but it’s couple years too late from him to have a major impact. Dallas has good talent on the roster, the Doncic nd Smith Jr will be fun to watch, but a playoff birth is wishful thinking.
Player to Watch - Will Luka Doncic be the transcendent player his pegged to be Record 30-52

Album Review by Bradley Christensen Cannibal Corpse – Red Before Black Record Label: Metal Blade Release Date: November 3 2017
It’s been a few years since the last Cannibal Corpse album, huh? It’s crazy that we’re getting a new one now, especially because this is the band’s 14th studio record. Red Before Black is an album that I’ve been pretty excited about, mainly because I love Cannibal Corpse. It’s not a secret whatsoever, because I just got into their first few albums, and when I’m writing this, I should be getting 1994’s The Bleeding soon, too, because my girlfriend surprised me with a copy of the record that should be coming soon. Cannibal Corpse is an interesting band, even though their music itself really isn’t that interesting on the surface. They’re interesting, because they’re a perfect example of a “meat and potatoes” kind of band. These are bands that have a very basic sound, but they do their job well, essentially like the aforementioned meal. Meat and potatoes is a very basic meal to have, but goddamn, it’s always great. Cannibal Corpse is a death metal band that’s been around for the last thirty years, give or take, and that’s amazing to me, because they’re still going strong. I’ve seen a lot of hype for Red Before Black, as well as a lot of promotion (Metal Injection posted a video of vocalist George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher shopping at Target, and Corpsegrinder just talks about Target the whole time, and it’s a video that I didn’t know I needed until I watched it; really, check it out, it’s oddly entertaining, and in the best way possible), but it’s great, because this band is still doing their thing after all of these years. I was talking to my best friend Jake about this, and how it’s great that a band like Cannibal Corpse can still crank out album after album, despite being more on the meat and potatoes side of things, whereas a lot of bands that have been around for the same amount of time have either become “legacy acts,” or they’re released subpar material these days. Cannibal Corpse, though, knows their audience. They’re the highest selling death metal band of all time, and they know what their fans want – simple, high octane, and brutal death metal. If you’ve never listened to a Cannibal Corpse album, and especially if you have, you know what you’re getting, but that’s not always a bad thing.
My first experience with Cannibal Corpse was a few years ago, actually. I picked 2014’s A Skeletal Domain when it came out, because I wanted to get more into actual death metal, especially because I was more into deathcore at the time (I still am, but I wanted to broaden my metal horizons). Cannibal Corpse is the most iconic death metal, so that’s why I thought I’d pick it up. It’s a damn good record, too, but that’s besides the point. I definitely knew what I was getting with that record, but like I said, that’s not a bad thing. I like being surprised, just as much as the next guy, but there are some cases where I know what I want. I don’t want any bullshit, so to speak. I just want an album that’ll give me exactly what I’m looking for. Cannibal Corpse is that band. If I want straightforward, brutal, and intense death metal, hey, I know where to look. The thing is, too, though, Cannibal Corpse has throw some nuances in their sound here and there. They have somewhat of a technical sound, especially in certain songs, and they’re a lot of fun, versus being bland, forgettable, and boring. This LP, in particular, is a rather “catchy” album, and the band went on record as saying that themselves, but I can hear that. The guitar riffs have more of a melody behind them, as well as there attempting to be what you could call “hooks,” but my thoughts on Red Before Black are pretty simple – it’s another Cannibal Corpse album, which might deter either longtime fans that are sick of their sound at this point, as well as keep people away that never could get into them, but they have a few subtle tricks up their sleeve, like I said, so in a way, I really like this record. Hell, it’s great, and one of my favorite albums of the year. This LP hasn’t disappointed whatsoever. I can’t say that it’s anything amazing, or revolutionary, especially when the nuances are just that, but at the same time, I really enjoy Cannibal Corpse’s sound, regardless, to I’m what you’d call “biased,” I guess, even though all reviews are biased. The thing about that, though, is that Cannibal Corpse isn’t a band that a lot of their fans take super seriously, because they’re very, very basic, and they’re more into the blood, guts, gore, and brutality of their sound.
I’m a music fan that wants to be both be challenged, as well as just have a damn good time, and Cannibal Corpse gives me more of the latter, but at the same time, they have an interesting enough sound. There are some interesting moments throughout their albums, this one included, but they’re more of a band that I come to when I want something brutal and intense, versus intellectually and musically challenged. I feel like that’s partially why they get a lot of flack, even back in the 90s, because they’re such a simple group. Their sound isn’t complicated, super technical, or even that interesting when you really look at it. They’re basic death metal that’s rather outdated nowadays, because their whole bloody and gory shtick was offensive in the early 90s, but in 2017, it’s really nothing new or unique. Really, it all depends on how you feel about this band already (permitting that you listen to death metal, anyway), because if you’re not into this band, I doubt this record will “convert” you. Cannibal Corpse fans have already listened to this, as well as enjoy it, such as myself. I’m all over this album, and I have been all over it since it came out, but I can’t see people that aren’t into them, or wouldn’t be into them, necessarily changing their minds over this album. Red Before Black is a lot of fun, and it continues Cannibal Corpse’s bloodsoaked death metal mayhem, but it’s not a particularly revolutionary album. This thing kicks a lot of ass, though, just because it’s fine to listen to music that gives you exactly what you’re looking for, nothing more and nothing less. Cannibal Corpse is brutal, intense, awesome, and in your face, but that’s what I expect with this band. They don’t need to blow me away, per se, because that’s not what they are. They’re not a tech-death band, a melo-death band, or even a prog-death band. They’re not a band that’s going to challenge me, or challenge what metal is or isn’t, and that’s fine. They don’t need to, because they’ve been around for so long, that they know what they’re doing. This LP is pretty much more that, but at the same time, they’re trying some things here that really work, so I’m really happy with this record.
