A snowny kiss
Tumblr media
Okey, I know I give it late, but I hope you like it. @madelineorionswan, I was your Secret Santa. I inspired in your one-shoot "A Snowny Kiss". I'm better drawing than writing in English (I do in Spanish language, but I didn't think you like to translate first my fic to understand it), taking the decision to do this image where the love between Charlie and Madeline could feel. I admit it's the first time I draw a kiss, it was a challenge for me, and with the landscape, I remembered when I painted with oleo. I wish you Merry (late) Christmas and a Happy New 2023!
Thanks to @hphmsecretsanta for the opportunity to be part of this event and waiting me a little more.

May's entry for @hp-12monthsofmagic
A/N: This story is my first hphm story after a long while of not writing any of it, and I hope everyone enjoys this. Also, the topic of this story is fascinating to me as I have just gone through this scenario in my life, and I'm sure everyone has had this particular experience. That being said I hope you guys enjoy this story 😊.
Summary: After the OWLs, it is finally result-time for the students of Hogwarts. But before the grande finale, the students go through a series of tension-filled moments.
Warnings: Mentions of exam stress, exams and stress in general.
It was another day at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Great Hall was filled with students, busy chatting and having breakfast. Madeline and her friends were among those students. They all were laughing and talking, as usual, occasionally bringing up their ideas about the cursed vaults, as they always did.
Safe to say that the Great Hall quite literally sounded like a busy marketplace.
"Attention students Professor Dumbledore has an important announcement for all of you," The Great Hall was suddenly silenced by Professor Mcgonagal's loud and clear voice. The students faced the Professors expectantly and silently as Professor Dumbledore nodded at Professor McGonagall, who moved aside to let him address the students.
"Allow me to be the first to congratulate you all on a momentous occasion", Professor Dumbledore said with a small smile gracing his face, "all fifth years have survived your OWLs, thereby taking a significant step in your journey of learning here, at Hogwarts. Your results will be out soon, but till then, all classes will be held as usual."
The Hall immediately broke into collective gasps of excitement and nervousness as everyone started to whisper amongst themselves. Professor Dumbledore smiled to himself and stepped back to sit at the teacher's table. He couldn't deny that the circumstances were quite amusing to watch as they had been for the past couple of years. And this year was going to be quite an intriguing experience to see.
---
"Can you believe results will be out soon?" Penny gushed as the girls walked out of the great hall after the bombshell had been dropped about the results.
"I know. Well, I just hope I pass," Madeline concluded, not expecting much in the first place. But she hoped that her results were at least decent.
"I'm really hoping to get at least exceeds expectations in all of them," Penny said and Madeline and Rowan nodded in agreement.
"I always said that marks do not matter in life. At the end of the day, these marks are just writing on a piece of paper," Charlie shrugged while the others agreed with him.
"It would've been fine if it was just that, but this "piece of paper" decides our entire futures at our jobs and our life," Talbott pointed out as the others sighed but mentally agreed with his point. Even the most nonchalant person would have to admit that the results would have a significant effect on their careers and lives.
"You've been quiet, Ro. Is everything alright?" Madeline asked her best friend, who had been silent since this morning.
As if she had suddenly been brought out of deep thought, Rowan nodded briskly in reply.
"If you say so," Madeline narrowed her eyes with suspicion, not believing that Rowan was fine. But she knew Rowan wouldn't open up right now so she let it slide.
"Alright then, see you guys at the Three Broomsticks as usual?" Madeline asked her friends, to which they all agreed to meet as usual that evening after classes.
But who knew that the rest of the day would end up being an excruciatingly long one.
---
Madeline, Andre and Barnaby were in their charms classes, practising defence spells which Professor Flitwick had demonstrated earlier. After successfully executing the hexes when Professor Flitwick reviewed them (save for Barnaby accidentally almost freezing the professor with Glacius, which he narrowly escaped), they were all allowed to return to their places and unwind.
"Now that everyone has executed the hexes more or less successfully," Professor Flitwick glared at Barnaby from the corner of his eye, making the boy chuckle and scratch the back of his neck nervously. The professor then continued, "Since we have a few minutes at hand, I suggest we all discuss the questions of your OWLs."
Everyone groaned with annoyance, causing Professor Flitwick to tut at them. He used his wand to summon a question paper from one of the many stacks of books in his hand and started to read the questions aloud. The students all took out their books and their scrolls to note down some key points of the answers.
But every question and answer the professor read aloud differed from what most students remembered writing in their answers. Madeline and Andre scrambled to write down the answers on their scrolls while Barnaby looked at them, confused.
"I thought you said, marks didn't matter to you?" he asked, confused.
"I have a reputation to maintain Barnaby. What do you think people will say when they hear that the next biggest fashion sensation got trolls in his OWLs?!" Andre replied pointedly. Both the boys then turned to Madeline who was busy writing down the answers in her scroll.
"What?" Madeline looked at the boys incredulously, when she felt them staring at her, "just because the marks doesn't matter to me doesn't mean that it won't matter to the person who's gonna check my files for when I apply to be an auror."
"It would matter?" Barnaby asked, muddled.
"I think she means that the marks matter when it comes to getting a dream job, Barns," Andre explained to which Barnaby replied with a silent "oh". Soon everyone was starting to feel the pressure of receiving their expected marks. And they all started to think about what would happen if they didn't get what they had expected. They would surely have a lot to think about then and they certainly wouldn't be nice thoughts.
---
In care of magical creatures class, the students were going through a similar turmoil, except professor kettleburn wasn't the one adding fuel to the fire. It was the students themselves.
Some students were busy tending to the magical creatures as they had been intsructed by the professor before he whisked off to god knows where. Other's on the other hand were busy talking about how the "OWLs had been so easy even a baby could easily solve without even breaking into sweat". And among those students was namely Merula.
"Oh please! They couldn't set a harder paper? I was expecting some intense questions my way!' Merula scoffed loudly. Ismelda chuckled dryly as some of the other students started conversing about the papers.
Penny had been rather cool minded this morning. But Merula's constant mocking comments wasn't helping her stay calm like before. Charlie on the other hand, well, Penny wasn't even sure he had payed attention to who else was in class.
"Atleast some of us are actually confident in what they wrote in their answers rather than some who pretend to be confident," Merula rolled her eyes, "Isnt that right, Haywood?"
Penny humphed and turned to feed the bowtruckle who had been distracted while playing with her hair. Merula was clearly getting under her skin and she was started to get frazzled.
"How are you dealing with the stress Charlie?" Penny asked, trying to defuse the tension.
"What stress?" Charlie asked, furrowing his brows a little.
"What do you mean? I'm sure you're at least a little nervous about the results," Penny said, chuckling nervously.
"Well, whatever I wrote in the test is what I'm gonna get. I don't really bother much about it," the ginger-haired teen shrugged as he tried to feed the baby Diricawl, who was apparating and disapparating, "besides, these marks won't affect my work skills. The work is what really matters after all."
Penny scoffed and stood up to pick up the animal food bucket, making Charlie chuckle at her antics as she stomped off to return the bucket.
"Look who seems frazzled," Merula smirked and stopped Penny in her path.
"Go away Merula," Penny protested, trying to move aside but Merula just blocked her way again.
"Not so confident about your results, are you, Haywood? Well, at least some people know their true worth, unlike you," Merula mocked
"Maybe some people who know their worth, don't feel like flaunting it," Charlie shouted back, making everyone face him.
"Besides, if you're so confident about knowing all the answers, I'm sure you would be open to discussing it in class, Merula," Charlie challenged Merula, who seemed to have backed off.
Not wanting to ruin her reputation, Merula frowned angrily and let Penny go. Penny smiled proudly at her friend, who smirked confidently. After returning the creature's food, Penny and Charlie left to go to the castle
"You know, What I meant by saying that these marks don't matter, ain't that the work you put in doesn't matter. It's just that, if you did bad on this one, it doesn't mean your world is over," Charlie said.
"Yeah, you're right. It only matters if I let my failures define me. And that is something we do not do," Penny replied, smiling and high-fived Charlie. The two then snuck off to the kitchens to grab a snack before their next classes and a few more hours of terror.
---
After climbing a lifetime of stairs, Talbott and Rowan finally reached their astronomy class with Professor Sinistra.
"Take a seat, students. Today, we will learn about different star formations and their relations to the muggle zodiac signs," Professor Sinistra turned to the open night sky and began pointing to different constellations and describing them.
Talbott and Rowan, as usual, answered most of the questions asked by the professor, seeing as they were the only ones who were interested. After a long star-gazing session, she dismissed the class. Rowan and Talbott picked up their books and scrolls and left the towers to go to their common rooms.
"So, how are you feeling about the results Rowan Khanna?" Talbott asked out of the blue.
Rowan stopped for a moment and looked at Talbott. "I guess I feel okay," She replied and started to descend the stairs.
"You don't feel... anything? Like excitement or nervousness?" Talbott asked.
"Are you nervous, Talbott?" Rowan asked back. Talbott was a little taken aback.
"I guess I feel this nervousness, not about what I'm gonna get, but more about what's gonna happen afterwards. It's intimidating but exciting at the same time," Talbott replied with a sigh and shrug.
Rowan nodded in agreement. She too had a similar feeling. She knew that she wouldn't be getting less than exceeds expectation, but there was this odd feeling. Almost like a rock on her chest when she thought about her results. But she couldn't exactly pinpoint what she felt like. Talbott had just put the feeling into words for her.
"The only way to overcome it, I guess, is to experience it. I've read several books that say once you go through an obstacle, you get more used to the emotions associated with it," Rowan concluded, Talbott nodded in agreement but then replied, "I guess I'll just walk it off for now."
He descended the stairs before disappearing near the Ravenclaw Tower's entrance. Rowan turned left for the Gryffindor common room, feeling like she might be coming to terms with her emotions about this experience.
---
It was late in the evening when Bill had completed his homework. He looked at the clock in his dorm and, realising how late he was, quickly threw on a shirt and trousers and jogged down the stairs. What he saw when he went down to the common room, amused and confused him.
Madeline was lying on the couch in front of the fireplace with a book on her face while Rowan sat at her feet, meditating, her face scrunched up in concentration. Charlie, on the other hand, was busy studying some old diagrams of dragons with Ben, who was nervously biting his nails.
"Please don't tell me the other like this too", Bill said, shaking his head dismissively.
"Unfortunately, everyone decided to bail out and stay back at their dorms", Rowan replied, not bothering to open her eyes to look.
"And with good reason! You should have seen Professor Flitwick's class today", Madeline groaned with annoyance.
"Madie, you can't change what you did in the test," Rowan tried to console her, but Madeline groaned with defeat.
"Rowan, how can you be so calm when we are about to face one of the biggest changes in your life?!" Ben asked, confused as he started to get even more nervous.
"Ben, buddy, you need to calm down. Getting back your OWL results isn't that big of a thing, y'know," Charlie patted Ben's back to calm him, although it didn't help much.
Bill chuckled amusedly, shaking his head as he sat on a couch beside the bigger one. "You guys are acting just like us back when we were going to get our results," he said, "now do you get what we had to go through," Bill looked at Charlie pointedly. Charlie just rolled his eyes in reply, now regretting the times he had told Bill he was overreacting. He knew his older brother was going to tease him nonstop after this.
"Look, guys, there's no use worrying. You can't change what you did in your test. It's best to just not listen to what anyone else has to say and just go through the thing personally,” Bill advised. But all he got was a nod from Rowan while the rest just groaned.
Bill shook his head. He knew they needed to hear this, whether they liked it or not. But he also knew it would be hard for them to accept it. It had been the same for him. Soon it was time for dinner, and the group headed downstairs with the rest of the students to receive their much-dreaded results.
The Great Hall was silent and oddly so. It was very rarely that everyone remained quiet in there. But the impending news of the results had everyone busy with their thoughts. After a hushed and anxious meal, everyone turned to the teacher's table expectantly. Professor Dumbledore looked at the other teachers with a smile which everyone answered with a nod. Finally, Professor Dumbledore stood up in his place to make the much-awaited announcement.
“To all fifth years, when you step out of the Great Hall, don’t forget to collect your results from the professors. I have been reminded to tell you to be a little less boisterous, but there won’t be any consequences if you are. But I would remind you all that whatever result you receive, I want you all to know that this isn’t the end of the world. These marks are an indication of what you are capable of achieving, but they do not represent who you are and what you can become,” Dumbledore spoke solemnly, but the twinkle in his eye never faded nor did his small smile.
After dinner, everyone was escorted back to the common rooms by their prefects. After completing their duties, Charlie and Madeline went to get their result papers from Professor McGonagall at her office. The professor handed them their results, her expression not showing any of her emotions. They then returned to the common room to find it to be a literal circus. All the Gryffindor fifth years were busy conversing about their results. Some faces were bright with excitement, while others showed disappointment. The pair looked around for a bit and found Ben, Bill and Rowan waiting for them at a corner.
“It’s now or never, I suppose,” Madeline sighed once she and Charlie approached the group. They all shared a look between themselves before nervously ripping open their envelopes.
When Madeline looked at her results, she couldn’t believe what she saw. She had gotten “Exceeds Expectations” in all of her subjects! Even in potions! She let out a relieved breath that she had unconsciously held onto, her eyes lighting up. She looked to see the same happiness on Ben and Charlie’s face. Charlie smiled brightly as he showed Bill his result card. Bill smiled proudly and hugged his brother tightly. Ben too looked happy although mostly relieved.
But Rowan’s face showed disappointment and shock. Madeline quickly moved to sit beside her and looked at her results. As expected, all of them were brilliant as usual, except one. In Transfiguration, one of Rowan’s favourite classes, she had gotten an “Acceptable”.
“I-I don’t know what went wrong. I was so confident about this," Rowan couldn't complete her words because of Madeline’s tight hug.
“It’s okay, you did your best,” Madeline said hugging her best friend, “Besides, this test can never justify how brilliant you are as a friend and as a student. Let bygones be bygones, Ro.”
Rowan nodded as a small smile crept upon her face. Although she wasn't fully convinced, Madeline's words provided her with some comfort. Madeline knew she would get over this. It would take some time but eventually, she would get better.
“This victory calls for a celebration,” Madeline declared, “Butterbeers on Bill, no questions asked,” she pointed at Bill, who laughed but agreed to the terms.
It indeed was the greatest victory of the month.

HPHM MC BIRTHDAY LIST
PLEASE READ!!!
MC or OC MUST be Jacob’s younger sibling. If they do not have an older brother named Jacob, they have to at least be your in-game character.
MC or OC MUST be your in-game character or avatar. This is the most important criterion.
MUST be born between 1 September 1972 and 31 August 1973 (I guess I will be lenient to those born on September-December 1973). This is canonically their birth date so it’s only appropriate.
If MC or OC is a twin, their twin sibling will be included.
Adopted sibling/s may be included as long as their birthdays fall on Jacob’s sibling’s canonical birth date
Jacob himself and any other older or younger siblings will not be included in this list. Cousin/s will not be included, as they are not even Jacob's sibling/s. Any other HPHM OC/s who are not Jacob's sibling/s or who isn't your in-game character will not be included either. I may put their names on the list for a certain amount of time but I will remove them eventually
Thank you for understanding

A Fiery Surprise.
@hp-12monthsofmagic prompt for this July, surprise.
Summary: Long after the second wizarding war, Charlie decides to have his own dragon sanctuary in Southern England. But what is a dragon sanctuary without dragons? A new friend of Madeline's might just be the solution to this problem.
Warnings: Adorable dragon family and Madeline and Charlie, Fire, mentions of blood and injury but nothing graphic, Dragons... LOTS of dragons.
A/N: This was such a fun story to write! But honestly, any story I write about Charlie and Madeline and their future quaint family life gets me so excited, and it melts my heart🥰🥰. Hope everyone likes this!
"Did you take an extra water bottle? An extra shirt? Oh, and are you taking your gumboots? "
"Yes. Yes. And I don't need the gumboots, Charlie! We're not going to Dartmoor."
Today was like any other day in Madeline and Charlie's household. Chaotic, rushed, messy and homely. After a long while, Madeline received a new mission abroad. Needless to say, Madeline excitedly accepted the offer and took Harry, Ron and Edward on her team. Charlie was happy that Madeline was so excited about her mission and helped her by staying up nights with her and keeping Aro away from her work files ( The last time he had been near those, Madeline had to delay the entire mission and redo every single document, because someone thought eating the paper and sneezing fire at the rest was a good thing).
Today Madeline was going to meet her team and head for New York. Charlie had been busy doing a last-minute check through Madeline's luggage. But Charlie was only slightly worried for her (which was his way of saying he was Significantly worried). After all, l the wizarding world wasn't as safe as it had been once. While things were better than during the war, crime was still widespread. Many of the previous death eaters had escaped and wanted to gather power.
The entire ministry had been busy trying to arrest these stray death-eaters, but so far, they had had very little luck. So the ministry decided to investigate further away from England, hence the search in North America had been proposed.
After a final check, Madeline was ready to leave. She petted Aro, who had been sneaking around the living room all this time, although he had his own pen in Charlie's sanctuary outside. "I'll be back soon Aro, lovey," she murmured with a smile and the dragon, satisfied with the affection, skipped off through the open door.
"Looks like I better be off now," Madeline said to Charlie, a hint of sadness in her voice. Charlie brought her into his arms and hugged her tightly as Madeline kissed his lips deeply. For a moment, they both stood in each other's embrace, not wanting to let go. But Madeline reluctantly pulled away.
"Be safe there dragostea mea. And don't forget to make those bloody death eaters regret everything they did," Charlie joked, making Madeline laugh as she shouldered her bag. But before she could walk out, Charlie grabbed her wrist and pulled her to him, pecking her lips one last time with a grin.
"I'll take that as a request to send letters daily?" Madeline teased with a giggle.
"Please do," Charlie grinned and let go of his wife with a smile, albeit unwillingly. Madeline then quickly put on her shoes and bid farewell to her husband before leaving their home. But when she took a quick look at her watch, she dashed to catch the portkey which she hopefully didn't miss.
---
For a second, there was utter silence. But then, all that could be heard amongst the shadows of the tall birches and pines were sounds of spells being shot violently at each other. Hexes clashed midway as Aurors and death eaters tried to defeat the other. Although the Aurors were outnumbered, they weren't proving easy for the death eaters to defeat.
"Harry! Behind you!" Madeline shouted a warning at Harry, who whirled around just in time to deflect a spell being shot by a death eater.
Madeline shot Bombarda Maxima at another one of the death eaters, who fell from the slope of the hilly forest along with two more of their cronies. Madeline backed up against a tree when she saw the coast was clear and sat down at the base of it. She wiped the blood that had trickled down her nose and let out a shaky breath. For a moment she observed the fight between the boys and the rest of the Death eaters when suddenly she heard a loud growl.
Her brows furrowed as she looked to the north of the forest from where the sound was heard. But she didn't get another chance to listen to it as she felt a massive blow against her and fell to the forest floor.
"Madeline! You alright?" Edward asked with concern and helped his senior up on her feet.
"I'm fine, don't worry," Madeline weakly said as she tried to regain her footing, "let's finish these blokes, so we can get this over with."
Edward firmly nodded and blasted a spell at a group of death eaters who were approaching them. He then dashed to Ron and Harry who were being surrounded by the remaining death eaters.
"This fight is getting tedious," Madeline thought to herself. She looked around and saw they were surrounded by the death eaters, despite the innumerable times they had defeated them. Suddenly, an idea struck her mind.
"Harry! Give me your wand!" Madeline yelled at Harry.
Harry flung his wand towards her, which Madeline caught in her hand and turned to face the looming shadows of people encircling her and the others. With two wands in her hands, each pointing towards the enemy, Madeline cast Bombarda, blinding the surrounding grove in orange rays.
It took a moment for the light to recced, but eventually, it did, and everyone could finally look around. Harry, Ron and Edward looked around and were astounded when they saw all the death eaters lying on the charred forest floor, groaning weakly in pain.
"That was bloody amazing!" Ron told Madeline, still a little awestruck.
"Well, I don't usually do this, but looks like it still works," Madeline shrugged and tossed Harry his wand, "Let's call in some support from the MACUSA."
It took them a while to contact the MACUSA, but eventually, help was reached. The team took a few minutes to round up the death eaters before they left for the headquarters in New York, leaving Madeline, Harry, Ron and Edward in the half-charred grove.
The walk back to their campsite was quiet and boring. Madeline was busy observing the lofty trees surrounding the camp while the guys walked ahead as they chatted about the mission review they would have to write later.
As Madeline strolled along the winding path, she abruptly halted and turned her attention towards the bushes nearby. She had picked up on a faint, quivering sound emanating from somewhere in the vicinity and slowly tiptoed towards it. She looked once towards the guys and found them strolling ahead, probably having forgotten her. So she moved aside the dense green foliage, and the scene she saw wasn't something she had expected.
A beautiful Antipodean Opaleye rested by her nest, which held three stunning pearly eggs. The sun's rays made her white scales shimmer brilliantly. She was snoring peacefully, entirely unaware of Madeline's presence. That is until Madeline stepped closer towards the nest and accidentally stepped on a branch.
The mother dragon's sensitive ears detected the quiet snap of the branch, and she woke up. She lifted her head and saw Madeline standing motionless near the nest with her rainbow eyes.
Seconds passed as Madeline and the dragon kept still and stared at each other. Madeline was no dragonologist, but she knew that if she kept stationary long enough, the dragon would perceive her as unthreatening and go back to sleep. Maybe she would let her pet her. But this Antipodean Opaleye clearly didn't trust her and kept on staring.
Madeline eventually gave up and stepped back, raising her hands to indicate to the dragon that she posed no threat. The great creature narrowed its eyes for a moment, but she quickly turned her attention to the nest. One of the pearly white eggs was shaking. Suddenly there was the sound of cracking. The mother quickly got up as Madeline too tiptoed closer to get a look.
Madeline witnessed a miraculous event as cracks appeared on the egg, then multiplied until the shell finally shattered, revealing a precious baby dragon. Despite spending nearly a decade at the Romanian sanctuary, Madeline had never witnessed a dragon egg hatching before. She was filled with awe and wonder at the sight. Soon after, the other eggs started to shake as well and the mother dragon snorted with excitement, whilst nudging the first little one out of its shell.
Without delay, Madeline dashed outside to search for the guys. Luckily, they had already realized she was missing and were on the lookout for her. When Madeline emerged from the bushes, Harry spotted her and signalled the others to join her.
"Thank goodness we found you, Madie. We thought one of the bloody death eaters might've kidnapped you," Ron said.
"Guys! I found something really cool! You've got to see it, but be extra quiet," Madeline said in one breath, quickly pulling Harry, Ron and Edward to the bush.
Before going through the foliage, she put a finger against her lips and walked through the leaves. The boys shared a look of confusion before Harry shrugged and followed Madeline along with Edward and Ron behind him.
Their jaws dropped in amazement as they gazed upon the scene before them. The mother dragon was lovingly attending to her newly hatched babies, with the third and final egg still nestled in the nest, yet to hatch. Madeline was crouched beside the two dragonlings as they waddled around. The dragon was still icy towards her but seemed to understand that she meant no harm.
But the second the boys tried to step forward, the dragon growled, her vivid irises darkening with anger. Lifting her head, she bellowed so loudly that all the guys stumbled back. Madeline quickly moved to caress the dragon, but she was still heaving with rage. One guest was fine, but 4 was an unwelcome party for her.
"Woah, girl! Easy, please, easy," Madeline gently stroked the dragon's scaly snout. The dragon initially gave Madeline a suspicious look but eventually appeared to calm down after she attempted to comfort it. She signalled the boys to come closer, and they tiptoed up to the dragon.
"Now, girl, it's alright. They're not going to hurt you. They're here to help you," Madeline whispered to the dragon. The dragon looked at the three men, who were standing as still as sticks. Then she laid down her head and looked at her dragonlings instead. The buys then let out a sigh of relief
"Blimey, Madeline! And here I thought we were going to be roasted like Mum's Christmas turkey!" Ron exclaimed, making the others chuckle.
"I still can't believe you found an actual antipodean opaleye here! Shouldn't they be New Zealand?" Harry said while walking toward the nest and egg with Edward.
"I'm not sure. But Whatever it is, we've got to get them to a safer place. With the babies, it's not safe here, nor is this climate suitable for them," Madeline said with concern.
"But where can we take them, there's no Australian dragon sanctuary," Edward pointed out.
"I might have an idea-
A loud crack was heard, and everyone turned their attention towards the remaining egg. There were a few cracks on it, and everyone waited with bated breath for the last little one to hatch. This little one certainly took its sweet time, slowly chipping away at the shell. Eventually, it made a small hole in the top of the egg and poked its head out. Everyone awed at the little guy who attempted to wriggle free but failed miserably. Edward picked cracked the remaining eggshell and took out the baby, handing him to his mother who gurgled happily.
"Looks like a happy family then," Edward concluded with a smile and the others agreed with nods.
"Then let's get them back to a safe place," Madeline said as she contacted the Ministry of America and England.
---
"Hi, love! I'm so glad you're ba- WHAT IN MERLIN'S BEARD ARE YOU DOING WITH FOUR DRAGONS?!"
Madeline smiled sheepishly and said, "Surprise...?"
Charlie couldn't stop gawking at the sight in front of him. In front of him stood a magnificent Antipodean Opaleye, accompanied by three adorable babies.
"What, How, why, when?" Charlie asked with excitement and confusion on his face.
"Madeline found this mama and her nest in the forest where we were rounding up the death eaters. We couldn't leave them there, and so we brought them here," Harry said while trying to keep one of the babies from running away.
"And I would say that it's a bloody brilliant idea mate," Ron said, smiling proudly. He too had a baby dragon in his arms, although this one was asleep.
"Oh, I don't need you to convince me. I'm just shocked, is all," Charlie said with a smile and walked to the Mama dragon. She seemed uncertain and started to fidget and growl. But Charlie's careful steps and soft voice worked wonders on her and within seconds she grew fond of him.
"How about you guys go and sit in the living room, we both can take the little ones and Mama to the sanctuary," Madeline suggested. The guys nodded and let the three little ones follow their mama. Madeline walked behind them, making sure none of them would get lost.
Charlie and Madeline closed the gates to the grove enclosure where the dragons would reside. Madeline was fond of the little dragons and kept playing with them, while Charlie had a constant smile on his face that made his cheeks hurt. He had been searching for an additional dragon to join the two already present in the sanctuary. The sight of the previously empty sanctuary now housing dragons filled him with excitement and joy. It made his heart beat with renewed life and his eyes sparkle with delight. This unexpected surprise was truly the best he could have hoped for.

A new partner in Crime.
Summary: As Rowan starts to get better, Madeline is keen to get to know Bill Weasley better. The red-haired 4th year is the most popular student at Hogwarts but is he willing to help in Madeline's search of the vaults?
A/N: After a million years, I'm back with the next part of Madeline's journey in opening the cursed vaults. I must warn everyone that I'm a tad bit rusty now 😅but I hope this chapter is enjoyed by all.
Warnings: Duelling, Rowan obviously crushing on Bill
A couple days after Madeline and Rowan's conversation in the Great Hall, Rowan was finally allowed to stay in their dorm room. The day after she moved back to her dorm room with Madeline, she was officially dismissed from Mdam Pumphrey's care.
On the other hand, Madeline hadn't yet talked to Bill Weasley. Rowan had tried to convince her to approach him during one of their back-to-back charms classes, but she refused to speak to him, saying she didn't want to drag anyone into this mess.
The truth was, Madeline, was still feeling guilty after Rowan's accident. The thought of injuring her friend because of her adventure made Madeline feel selfish. And she definitely didn't want to drag anyone else into this. But Rowan decided to take matters into her own hands and wrote Bill a letter asking him if Madeline could meet him. He agreed and wrote down the time and place of the meeting.
That happened two days ago. In the rush of completing all the assignments she had missed, Rowan had forgotten to tell Madeline about the letter she had sent him on her behalf until the day Bill had told her to meet him.
Rowan suddenly remembered the letter when she saw Bill sitting at Gryffindor's Table with his friends. She quickly told Madeline about the letter, to which the latter reluctantly agreed to meet with him at the training grounds that morning.
After her first few classes, Madeline left for the training grounds. While treading on the grassy field, she heard loud banging and the whooshing sounds of spells and hexes. She quietly walked further down the field and saw a tall, auburn-haired guy practising spells with four training dummies.
For a moment, Madeline stood afar and observed the effortlessly smooth motions of Bill's wand. Rowan was right; he really was very talented. The spells he was practising weren't she had seen any other students exercise.
After a moment, Madeline coughed a little to clear her throat. "Uhm... Hey! Did you get my owl?" She called out loudly, although a little sceptical. Bill neither turned nor replied but continued to practice his spells as if he had heard nothing.
After an awkward silence, Bill suddenly turned to face Madeline just as she was about to leave. He smiled politely and extended his hand to shake.
"Hey, I'm Bill Weasley. What can I do for you, Madeline Orionswan?" He spoke as Madeline shook his hand with a smile.
"You know me?" Madeline asked as she quirked her brow incredulously.
"Your brother was the talk of the Weasley household when the daily prophet published an article about his search for the cursed vaults," Bill remarked, "Rumour is that you're following in his footsteps."
"Yeah... that," Madeline pursed her lips in a tight-lipped smile, "But I wanted to see if I could ask for your help,"
"I might be able to help you. But first, tell me what you want with the Cursed vault," Bil spoke seriously.
Madeline momentarily thought before replying, "I just want to understand what's happening. Not just the vaults and the cursed ice, but why my brother was so obsessed with them. And maybe that way, I can stop all the chaos it causes."
Bill nodded solemnly and said, "I'll help you, Madeline."
"You will?" Madeline asked incredulously, not really expecting him to agree with her.
"Of course," he said with a smile, "This cursed ice is a danger to all of Hogwarts, and breaking a cursed vault might stop it from spreading." "Besides," he added with a hint of enthusiasm, "I've never been on a curse-breaking adventure before."
"Brilliant. Thanks, Bill," Madeline smiled.
"Don't thank me yet. It will take hard work and even a little pain to prepare to break a cursed vault," Bill pointed out, earnestly. He checked his watch before saying, "Meet me here this weekend at the same time. And practice some of your spells in the meantime. I'll train you to duel then." He then quickly jogged towards the castle entrance. Madeline heaved a sigh of relief before realising she had to attend McGonagall's classes and thus dashed back inside the castle.
Suffice it to say, she wasn't spared by Professor McGonagall.
---
For the next two days, Madeline spent all her free time practising spells in the training grounds or any old classroom she could find. On Saturday morning, during breakfast, Madeline got an owl from Bill telling her to meet him late during the day. And within a few minutes after breakfast, Madeline left for the training grounds to meet Bill.
Just like last time, Madeline found Bill busy, firing spells at the training dummies. But when he heard her approaching, Bill turned around to face Madeline.
"Hey, Madeline. Are you ready to learn how to duel?" Bill asked
"Sure am," Madeline said with eagerness.
"Now, I know you are no stranger to duelling after what happened between you and Merula Snyde-"
"You were there?" Madeline asked, a little stunned.
"Sad to say, no, but my brother Charlie was there. He's a second year Gryffindor, just like you," Bill chuckled. "Oh," Madeline replied with a nod.
"Right, before we get started, how would you rate yourself as a dueller," Bill asked.
Madeline shrugged, "Dunno. I guess I still need to learn some stuff."
"Great! Then that's what I'm here for. Let's just start by duelling," Bill said rubbing his hands eagerly.
"Brilliant!" Madeline said, whipping out her wand from her pocket along with Bill.
"Good luck, Madeline. I'll try not to hurt you," Bill said, flashing his characteristic smile confidently.
"I'll try not to make you lose too," Madeline smirked, making Bill chuckle.
The pair took 20 paces away from each other, and the moment they turned to face the other, there was a blinding light accompanied by the blaring sound of spells colliding.
"DIFFINDO!" "BOMBARDA!"
Both the duellers were thrown back due to the impact of the collision. Although Bill held his ground better than Madeline, she was quick to recover. Before Bill could comprehend, he was thrown back by a jet of water, completely drenching him.
But he wasn't gonna be overpowered that easily. Before Madeline could shoot again at him, he conjured a blue shield with Protego. He then hit back with Baubillious making Madeline stumble back and fall. He shot another hex at the same time she did, and just like before, two jets of light crashed against each other.
For a couple of seconds, they held their stance against each other, not letting go. Bill forced the jets of light apart, giving Madeline the chance to disarm him, making Bill collapse as his wand flew out of his hand.
Madeline sighed tiredly and walked up to Bill as she helped him get up. He was panting as he picked up his wand but was smiling nonetheless.
"Not bad, Madeline. Not bad at all," Bill said whilst massaging his sore shoulder, "You say that you have a lot to learn but, honestly, you could teach me a thing or two."
"You were a pretty strong opponent, too Bill," Madeline said with a smile.
"But do you think we're ready to return to the cursed vault?" Madeline asked solemnly.
"Not yet. I've got to teach you one of my favourite spells first," Bill clapped a hand on Madeline's shoulder as the two walked back to the castle together. Before going to their dorms, Bill and Madeline agreed to meet again in the evening after Bill finished his extra classes.
The two then parted ways, Madeline to her dorm where she would work on some more tips on duelling and Bill downstairs where he secretly went to the infirmary to get his shoulder checked out, just to make sure everything was alright because Madeline had really messed him up. That girl was something else!
On the other hand, Madeline found Rowan busy studying on her four-poster bed. The bespeckled girl immediately sat up excitedly once she saw her friend.
"Madie! How was it like training with Bill Weasley?!" she asked eagerly, "Did you learn advanced magic?! Did you discuss the weather?! Did you get his autograph?!"
Madeline chuckled at Rowan's excitement and said, "Bill was awesome! We duelled and he agreed to help me try to get in the cursed vault."
He even said he would show me one of his favourite spells," she said, mirroring her best friend's excitement now.
"I'm so jealous. Do you think he knows me?" Rowan asked.
"I don't think so, Ro. But I'll surely introduce him to you," Madeline promised.
"Yeah. Hopefully, we can be friends," Rowan replied, smiling wistfully whilst writing down some notes on a scroll.
---
The evening soon came, and Madeline again left her dorm and went downstairs to the courtyard, where she found him reading a book of spells. He put aside his book and got up when he heard her footsteps approaching.
"How you feeling, Bill? Hope I didn't hurt you too much," Madeline smiled sheepishly.
"Much better. I certainly won't be in a hurry to duel you again anytime soon," Bill chuckled.
"But anyways, let's start with the spell. I'm assuming you haven't learned incendio in defence against the dark arts?" Bill asked.
"Well, the professor is hardly ever around, and even when he is, he isn't teaching," Madeline shrugged, "It honestly feels like I've learnt nothing there."
"Yeah. And that's why the library is where I learn most of my spells," Bill snorted with a shake of his head.
"So this is a fire spell which is the best spell when dealing with ice, especially one which is cursed," Bill spoke, "It is dangerous, but at this point, I think you're pretty used to it."
"That's about right," Madeline chuckled.
"Alright then, I've never taught anyone before, so please be careful. I'll go first," Bill warned Madeline, who nodded in agreement.
Bill stood away from the bushes in the courtyard and took his stance. "Incendio!" he said boldly as flames burst from the tip of his wand and onto the cobblestone. The fire crackled brightly for a few seconds before Bill cast Aquamenti to put it out.
"Now you try,"
Madeline nodded and copied Bill's stance from before. "Incendio!" she cast boldly while impersonating the wand movement Bill had shown. It took a few seconds, but eventually, flames sparked out of the tip of her wand. Madeline smirked proudly at her attempt whilst Bill nodded with approval.
"Great job, Madeline! A few more tries, and you'll be an expert in no time," Bill applauded Madeline.
After practising a few more times, Madeline and Bill decided to head back inside as the evening started to get darker. As they returned to the Gryffindor common room, Bill suggested researching the spell together.
"There should be a copy of the Standard Book of Spells in the Common room," Bill suggested.
"Yeah, my friend has at least six editions of it. I can ask her to help us..."
"Cool. She can join us if she wants," Bill said.
Madeline asked him to find a quiet place to sit in the Common room since it was bustling with people, whilst she went upstairs to call Rowan. She excitedly agreed to help them and brought out not just the six editions of the Standard Book of Spells she had, but also a bunch of other books, which Madeline helped her carry.
"Woah, those are a lot of books," Bill remarked, amazed by the number of books Rowan had.
"Yup! And that's why she Rowan to help me with everything," Madeline chuckled, making Rowan smile bashfully.
"Nice to meet you, Rowan," Bill smiled, extending his hands to shake hers.
"H-hi Bill Weasley!" Rowan smiled widely and shook his hand vigorously.
"That's me," he smiled, "you know, it's great to see someone your age studying so much."
"R-Really?! I-I mean, yes! Of course! If you want, I could even help you study. That is if you want to." Rowan fumbled through her words, clearly excited to meet Bill.
"Great! I just may do that with you after we're finished with the cursed vaults. I'm keen on becoming a prefect and Head boy," Bill said, proudly.
"Sure! I'd be glad to help!"
"Okayyyyy, now can we get back to studying?" Madeline suggested, sensing that Rowan and Bill had clearly forgotten that she was there.
Bill and Rowan nodded in agreement. The three then sat beside the fireplace and started researching spells and hexes that may help them in their endeavour while also studying Incedio. However, they couldn't do that for too long as they had to head down for dinner.
Bill got up first and stretched his arms, saying, "It was great studying with you guys. It's actually been a while since I've had fun while studying."
"Glad you had fun, Bill," Madeline, too, got up while dusting her trouser.
"Also, is there anything else I should do to prepare before heading to the Vaults?" Bill asked.
"Honestly, you should do everything to keep yourself prepared. But the most important thing to do is to wear loads of warm clothes because that place is freezing cold!" Madeline shivered at the thought of the dark and frigid corridor.
"Thanks. I'll keep that in mind," Bill said with a smile, "I'll send you an Owl when I'm free to join you guys."
"Sure! It was great to study with you too!" Rowan said grinning.
Bill left the girls when he found his mates going for dinner. He bid them farewell, to which the girls waved back (Rowan did it a bit too enthusiastically), and they left for dinner after a couple of minutes. At the end of the day, Madeline and Rowan crashed into their beds after dinner and were asleep within seconds.
After all, it had been a long and exciting weekend for them.

Warnings: fencing(?) a pinch of angst and a ton of fluff, swearing(like once)
A/N: The exciting part has officially arrived, and the much anticipated Charlie Weasley has entered the scene!!!!!! I'm internally screaming as I wrote this chapter, cus this is way too exciting !!!!! Hope you enjoy this chapter guys!
Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. All of the characters in mention (Except the ones from history) are fictional. The relationships mentioned among these characters aren’t real. I respect all of the characters from history mentioned in the story; the story is in no way written disrespectfully. I am not an expert on history and politics hence the mentions and portrayal of these two subjects are based on my imagination and are not real.
Some time had passed since the coronation and the opening of Parliament. Slowly but surely, the royal household slipped back into the normality of its daily routine at Eallesborough Castle.
Madeline had been rather desolate, always busy with the many new duties her day had been flogged with, never getting a moment for herself. But whenever there were days when she had to only affirm and sign documents or meet the prime minister, Madeline was left to herself, in the eerie silence of her bedroom or office room, where only the scratching of a pen against paper or the rustle of sheets at 11 pm could be heard.
This silence would consume her in depression, like an ominous and dark storm cloud which engulfs every inch of the sky in darkness in its wake. Nights went by without Madeline getting a wink of sleep, staring at the ceiling fan, driving her mad internally, but her face didn't give a single emotion away. After weeks of sleepless nights, Madeline conceded to Rowan's pleading to visit a psychologist for at least one consultation.
Madeline met up with the so-called "Headshrinker" (her words, not Rowan's), with whom, she thought, the meeting would be an absolute waste of time. But surprisingly, it proved to be quite likeable. The doctor diagnosed her with anxiety and depression, prescribing her some medication, and for a while, life went on well.
It was early in the morning when Madeline got up. No one knew where she went, but the moment the staff member, who came with her coffee, was flabbergasted to see her bedroom empty, the whole palace went into panic mode.
---
Rakepick got up from her desk abruptly as the head of the household, Mr Hudson, confessed about the missing queen. She immediately ordered Rowan to look around the front entrance of Eallesborough, along with the extra apartments, while she searched around the castle, followed by a bustling group of staff.
Rakepick rolled her eyes, annoyed as she tried to shoo away the annoying staff, whom she found to be like a comb of noisy bees. The staff were quick to scurry away when they saw her furious expression. Rakepick let out a sigh and returned back to search for the missing queen.
While searching around the back hallway leading to the backyard gardens, she abruptly stopped when she heard grunts and the sounds of a sword's movement. Rakepick opened the door and sighed with relief and annoyance when she saw Madeline fencing with a wooden mannequin.
As the tall redhead approached the queen, she quickly ducked away as Madeline made a feint with her sword. Madeline smirked to herself from inside her helmet.
"Care to join me for a round of fencing, Madam Rakepick?" Madeline quirked a brow. She used the tip of her sword to pick up another fencing sword by the handle, spinning it around the tip and then tossing it over to the older woman, who caught it skillfully.
Rakepick quirked her brow at Madeline, who just shrugged and spun her sword in her hand. Taking the opportunity, Rakepick smirked to herself and charged forward with her sword. Madeline quickly blocked her attack and twisted her blade to turn the charge on Rakepick. But Rakepick too proved to be skilful at the sport as she deflected the attack. The two women went on for a couple of minutes, only focused on the other and the movement of their Epee.
In under fifteen minutes, Madeline had gotten a lead, lunging forward with her sword. But Rakepick, taking advantage of the flexible blade, flicked it in such a manner which disarmed Madeline, declaring her the winner.
Madeline gasped as her sword flew out of her hand and fell beside her, the pointed blade sticking to the ground, making the sword stand as straight as a stick. Rakepick smirked to herself as Madeline sighed, but with a smile on her face nonetheless.
She took off her helmet and mask, placing them on the table beside the mannequin and dropped her sword into a bin full of swords as Rakepick did the same with her sword. The pair quietly walked back inside, not quite sure how to start a conversation. When Madeline shut the door to the back yard she let out a soft breath and turned to face her secretary.
"I'm assuming you didn't just come to have a round of fencing Madam Rakepick," Madeline said. Letting a sigh escape her lips, Rakepick cleared her throat.
"Your majesty, it is simply not acceptable that you leave the household for such a long time without anyone's knowing. You have no idea how much it delayed our schedule," she said with a stern voice.
Madeline scoffed, "I'm sure it wasn't as huge of a problem as you make it sound. Besides, I hadn't left the castle. Is it really that hard for the castle to function for at most an hour without me?"
By this time, the two women had started walking, Madeline walking ahead of Rakepick. The latter frowned at the young queen's disregard and sped up her steps to walk beside Madeline, who pretended as if she wasn't annoyed by the women.
"Your majesty, I do hope you remember that you have a meeting with the prime minister in an hour," Rakepick reminded Madeline. She smirked internally knowing full well that the queen had been too busy in her musings to actually remember the meeting.
Not that she cared about her mental state anyway. She only bothered about getting the work done.
Shit, Madeline thought to herself, why does she always end up forgetting meetings? But she didn't show it. As they walked into the main corridor, Madeline sped up her pace and turned to go to the breakfast hall. Before going inside, she turned to speak to Rakepick.
"I think, as the monarch, I'm quite aware of my duties. But I appreciate you reminding me of them," Madeline pressed her lips into a thin smile before heading inside.
"Absolutely ma'am, after all, it is my duty," Rakepick commented, knowing she had irked Madeline. She smirked and left to prepare her files at her office.
---
After a hurried breakfast, Madeline was quickly escorted to the study room, where the Prime minister was waiting. She entered the Drawing room, where she saw the Prime Minister sitting with her pet dog, Almond. He was happily lying on the sofa next to Mr Richardson, getting belly rubs from the latter.
When he heard the sound of Madeline's heels clicking on the floor, the dog turned around and looked up at Madeline, launching off the sofa. Madeline laughed as Almond snuggled against her leg. She smiled and ushered him out of the room.
"Good morning, Your Majesty", the Prime Minister, Mr Richardson, said as he got up.
"Good morning, Mr Richardson. I'm sorry for the delay, I was a bit busy earlier", Madeline lied through her teeth and sat down on the single sofa opposite the prime minister, "Now, how about we begin where we left off?"
The prime minister gave a curt nod and brought out a file full of newspaper articles and certain documents passed by the parliament that needed the approval of the Monarch.
The morning passed almost instantly with the discussions of economic fluctuations in the market and diplomatic relations with other countries. While Madeline understood a little of everything, certain aspects of economic disparities and political decisions confounded her.
And she hated it.
She drifted off into her thoughts as Mr Richardson continued talking about financial issues. It annoyed her when she was not sure about all the subjects of discussion. While Mr Richardson had helped her a lot to understand many subjects, Madeline felt it was her duty, as monarch, to be aware of all of the aspects of the political, economic and cultural situations that affected the country, her country.
She was brought out of her thoughts when Mr Richardson closed shut his binder full of documents and pushed it forward to Madeline.
"That's all we have to discuss today. These are the papers that need signing, ma'am", Mr Richardson said.
Madeline smiled and got up from her sofa along with Mr Richardson. She extended her hand towards the older man. He smiled and shook her hand before collecting his files.
"I hope to see you at the Prybush ball this weekend then, ma'am", Mr Richardson said as he was heading out. Madeline sucked in a breath with a smile and replied with a curt nod.
"I'm not looking forward too much about the press coverage, but I definitely am looking forward to a nice evening of dancing and music", she chuckled, making Mr Ricahrdson laugh along.
"It's true. Being Prime Minister has been hard work. Every other day I feel like going to a nice country retreat for a holiday! I can't imagine how hard it is for you, ma'am!"
"Yeah, it's been harder than I... anticipated", Madeline said quietly.
"I'm sure you will do alright", Mr Richardson rubbed the back of her affectionately as he held it in his own. He then bowed before her and left the room.
Madeline left the room with her equerry closely following behind. She went back to her study room with the stack of documents. She sat down behind her desk and started studying them closely. The more she sifted through them, the more she started to get confused.
Prolonged and complex words and sentences all firmed a tangled web of confusion in her head. Madeline groaned and fell back on her chair with a sigh.
It was only the first document.
Having no other choice, Madeline went to the library, followed by her butler. Both of them brought back a stack of dictionaries to her study room. Madeline skimmed the first document, letting the stack of books fall with a dull thump on her desk. She marked some of the complicated terms with a pencil and searched the dictionary for their meanings, eventually piecing together the meaning of the statements.
Even though it took a long time, Madeline eventually finished signing and reading all the documents, although it took her 5 hours to do so. She sighed and fell back against her chair, rubbing her eyes. Suddenly there was a knock.
"Come in," Madeline said. the door opened and Rowan entered the room, making Madeline smile a little.
"Long day?" Rowan asked as Madeline nodded.
"I think I need thirty hours a day now. Half the time I know nothing about what the documents are talking about. They all seem like Hebrew to me", Madeline groaned.
"Hmm. All could be resolved if you could've had a tutor though", Rowan half joked as she sat opposite Madeline.
"Yeah", Madeline muttered, dismissing the thought as a joke.
But the more she thought about it as she and Rowan sat in silence, the thought started to make sense.
A tutor! Why hadn't she thought of this before?!
"You know you're a genius, Rowan", Madeline said, getting up abruptly from her chair and standing beside her friend.
"Uhm, Thank you?" Rowan answered unsurely.
"We should hire a tutor! It would be a great help. They could teach me everything and I'm sure no one could refuse the offer of the Queen of the country.
"You're right. I am a genius!" Rowan exclaimed, agreeing with Madeline's idea.
"But Madam Rakepick would never agree to this", Rowan said, her excitement dying.
"Who says she has to know?" Madeline smirked, "While I'm slowly growing to...trust her possibly, at the end of the day, it is my decision about who gets to know what."
"So, Ro, could you please possibly hire someone appropriate?" Madeline pleaded.
"But... Madie... you know this is very risky..." Rowan tried to refuse. But Madeline's puppy dog eyes finally made her agree.
"Fine", Rowan said, a slight smile creeping up her face as she got up to leave.
"Oh, Rowan", Madeline interrupted before her she could leave, "make sure the tutor isn't too old and grumpy and has a sense of humour at least."
"Go it!" Rowan put her thumbs up and left the room as Madeline started to put aside her documents and get ready for a much-needed hearty dinner.
---
It had been a couple days since that conversation. Madeline waited nervously in one of the many palace living rooms, shaking her leg impatiently. Just as Rowan had promised her, she had contacted multiple tutors who were more than willing to help the Queen.
Needless to say, most of them were grouchy-aged men. But with some scouring, Rowan had found a professor at the Royal Oakland University willing to tutor the young queen.
But when Madeline had asked Rowan about the professor, she had refused to tell her more about him, except that he was the same age as her and taught Law and Political Science.
Today Rowan had arranged for him to meet with Madeline hence her being nervous. But she didn't need to wait much. Within a couple minutes of her wait, her equerry pushed open the door and informed her that a "Mister Weasley" was waiting for her. Madeline let out a breath she wasn't aware she had been holding and asked him to escort the latter in. Within a couple minutes, Madeline's equerry returned, followed closely by a young man.
The first thing Madeline noticed about him was the fiery red and unruly curls that framed his face. His honey-coloured eyes were warm and friendly with a hint of mischievousness. His smile was honest and charming. All of these features were unfamiliar to Madeline and she was intrigued by them. She had never seen such comfortable and kind eyes save for Rowan and Penny.
Madeline felt her lips tug to form a smile and extended her hand to shake his. He gladly shook her hand.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr Weasley-"
"Charlie is fine, Your Majesty. Charlie Weasley," Charles Weasley said with a smile as he bowed, although awkwardly.
"It's quite alright, Mr Weasley. There's no need for that. And call me Madeline", Madeline said with a chuckle when she noticed that the man clearly didn't know how to properly bow.
"Please take a seat", Madeline said, sitting on the sofa. Charlie sat opposite her, putting aside his leather rucksack.
"Before we begin, I saw these and thought it would be a nice gift for you", Charlie said, bringing out a small chaplet of White Lilies and White Roses.
"Oh, thank you", Madeline said with a smile, pleasantly surprised. She got up and put the flowers in an empty vase.
Once she returned to her seat, she asked Charlie, "Now, where do we begin?"
"Perhaps you can begin with your problems. Which areas do you face issues in?" Charlie suggested. He brought out a notebook and looked expectantly at Madeline.
"Well... where to begin?" Madeline started with a nervous chuckle, "When I enter a room full of ministers and highly educated dignitaries, it feels like I know nothing. Even though I'm of a higher rank, I can't even hold a decent conversation with them about politics or culture or administration, things that I'm expected to know in detail. So if you ask me, I barely know anything."
Charlie frowned a little and put aside his notebook at Madeline's answer.
"Do you know what educational qualifications you have?" he asked.
"As in?" Madeline asked, confused.
"As in, what level of education have you completed? Like junior level, secondary level or senior secondary level? Maybe any equivalent?" Charlie asked.
Madeline felt embarrassed. She understood that these were basic educational qualifications that any person, especially someone holding such a high office, should have. But she shook her head, denying that she had any formal education throughout her entire life.
Charlie nodded carefully. There was a moment of silence between the two as Charlie thought to himself.
"Well, let's start from the beginning then, with political science", Charlie said with a smile as he brought out a thick book from his rucksack. He placed it in front of Madeline and opened up the first chapter.
Madeline was a bit taken aback. She had expected him to judge her or pity her. But all she saw in his face was an eagerness to teach and a friendly smile. Madeline felt herself start to feel comfortable in his presence. Something about his friendliness and warm smile made her feel relaxed. She listened intently to his lesson, noting some of the main points in a notebook.
Charlie was undeniably a good professor. He made the dull lesson enjoyable with occasional jokes and fascinating stories. Madeline was in awe of the complex and intricate world of politics that she had never been able to understand completely, which started to become more and more familiar to her.
Unfortunately, Charlie had to leave to attend a seminar at the university. Madeline got up along with him as he gathered his belongings.
"Uhm, before you leave", Madeline interrupted Charlie just as he was about to walk away. He turned to face her as she continued.
"I wanted to thank you for agreeing to tutor me. I know it was a bit odd but I found myself enjoying your class very much so thank you", Madeline said with a smile, "I hope we can meet again for our classes?"
"With pleasure Madeline," Charlie said with a charming smile, "I hope we can be friends, more than just being teacher and student."
"I would bet on it", Madeline said, making Charlie chuckle.
"Also, Uhm, could this and the future meeting stay a secret?" Madeline said. Charlie signed, zipping his mouth shut. Madeline laughed a little. The two walked to the door, after which Charlie left with a last smile.
After Charlie left, Madeline felt a sense of excitement for their next meeting, which left a permanent smile on her face for the rest of the day.
---
It was the evening before the Ball at Prybush, the Capital city. It was Madeline's first public Ball which would undeniably be covered extensively by the media.
Madeline was busy practising her speech for the opening of the Ball while Penny helped her dress, so she could charm the crowds. After she helped Madeline get into a chemise and an underskirt, Penny left to find a dress from the selection provided by some designers.
"Which one do you think we should go with?" she asked Madeline, holding up a sleek wine-coloured dress in one hand and a light pink A-line gown in another.
"Uhm... the pink...maybe?" Madeline said unsurely and quickly returned to murmuring the speech under her breath.
Penny sighed exasperatedly and went back to looking through the gowns again. She audibly gasped with delight when she saw a pink floral gown with off-shoulder bell sleeves. It was simple yet romantic, just what the ball needed.
With the dress and a pair of matching flowery gloves in hand, Penny came back, only to see Madeline pacing around in her room, busy memorising the speech. Shaking her head, she approached the young queen and took the sheet of paper from her hand eliciting a groan from the latter.
"You won't be getting that back from me now", Penny said with a mischievous smirk, "Come now, into the dress you get."
After a moment of annoyance from Madeline and some struggling, Madeline finally got the dress on. Penny pushed her in front of the mirror, forcing her to look at herself as she did her hair.
It was gorgeous. She looked gorgeous.
Madeline looked different. The dress was not something she would have picked for herself. It was unlike the darker colours that she usually wore. It added a certain softness to her features which was complimented by the soft smile which had crept onto her face.
"I would say I've outdone myself this time," Penny smiled proudly as she to looked at Madeline's reflection with a proud smile.
"I second that," Madeline said with a chuckle.
Penny then put a dainty diamond chain necklace and matching earrings on Madeline. She then sat Madeline down in front of the vanity. She handed her the gloves eliciting a groan of annoyance from the latter.
"Do I have to put these on? You know how feel about gloves," Madeline protested.
"I do, but it is the protocol that you wear gloves during evening balls," Penny said as she did Madeline's makeup.
"I know, I know. It's just... they're itchy and annoying. And they make me feel more upper class than I'd like to admit," Madeline muttered with annoyance. She begrudgingly put on the gloves as Penny tutted and continued to put on Madeline's makeup.
After a couple minutes, Madeline was ready to go to the ball. She walked down the grand stairs to the entrance of the Palace. There she was met by the ever-serious Mdam Rakepick. They both got into the black cars and set off for the city.
It was only a few minutes until they reached the City Hall. The moment Madeline stepped out of the car, she plastered a smile on her face and turned to face the cameras and media.
For a moment, she was blinded by the constant camera flashes. But after a second to adjust, she focused her eyes on the crowd and waved at them. The throng of journalists and paparazzi cheered for the young queen, boosting her confidence.
She waved one last time at the people before climbing up the stairs and into the City Hall. On entering the hall, she was greeted by the sweet yet intoxicating smell of champagne as the soft ballroom music flowed freely.
The guests inside stood when Madeline walked in. Everyone smiled in awe at the young queen and clapped at her entrance, making Madeline smile too. The Prime Minister, his wife and the Mayor and his wife stood up to greet her.
"Your majesty", The prime minister said with a bow. Madeline smiled and nodded her head curtly in a reply
"Your majesty, it truly is an honour to have you here," the mayor greeted Madeline after the Prime Minister stepped aside.
"It is me who is honoured, Mister Mayor," Madeline said, smiling politely. The mayor bowed and offered his arm for her to take. Madeline accepted and linked her elbow with his. They both walked to the centre of the hall. Everyone clapped as the young queen waved at the guests with a wide smile.
A young waiter handed her a glass of champagne for her to toast. Taking the crystal goblet in one hand, she began her speech.
"Mr Mayor, Mr Prime Minister, ladies and gentlemen, it is my pleasure and honour to be a part of this incredible Ball, which has been hosted in honour of a long line of sovereigns. After today, I hope that I do all of the people proud as sovereign of this country. But for now, I hope everyone enjoys themselves tonight," Madeline finished, raising her glass for a toast. The guests all toasted their glasses in unison before returning to chatting or feasting.
Through the next couple minutes, Madeline was greeted by the nobles and dignitaries who were attending the ball. She made polite small talk with all of them under the watchful eye of Rakepick, although she felt bored and out of place in most of those conversations.
Stepping aside after some time, Madeline decided to munch on some of the locally sourced food. While taking a bite of her food, she saw Madam Rakepick approaching from the corner of her eye. She stuffed the last bite of the ceviche into her mouth before walking up to the older woman.
"I hope you're enjoying the party", Madeline remarked, not exactly hoping to get an answer.
"I've never been one to enjoy parties, ma'am," Rakepick scoffed, "to me, it is a waste of time and words, something which we are already in a deficit of."
Madeline pursed her lips and nodded in agreement. "You know," she said, "I don't particularly enjoy these parties and balls either."
Rakepick looked at the young queen from the corner of her eye with a hint of suspicion, not expecting her to agree.
"You don't have to agree with me," she replied emotionlessly, sipping on a glass of champagne.
"I'm not," Madeline replied, "has it occurred to you that we might share the same opinion?"
"... It's not something I expected," Rakepick replied briefly, "but I suppose it is a possibility."
"Look, Madam Rakepick, I know you aren't quite as friendly with me. But I do expect us to at least get along," Madeline sighed, frowning.
Rakepick remained expressionless for a second. Then she nodded, with what appeared to be a small smile.
"I too hope that we can eventually form a friendship, ma'am," She replied, shocking Madeline a little, but she smiled in reply.
"I hope you enjoy this event, ma'am," the auburn-haired lady said before curtsying and leaving Madeline to continue to mingle with the guests
While conversing with some people, she noticed a young man with messy black hair, round glasses and mossy green eyes standing in a corner by himself. Recognising the young noble, she walked towards him, glad to have seen a familiar face. The man noticed the queen approaching him and straightened himself. He bowed before her, making Madeline smile gently.
"Lord Potter, fancy seeing you here," Madeline said, a smirk forming on her face.
"Well, I-I had a free evening, so I decided to stop by," Harry replied sheepishly.
"It's good to get away from duty for a while, you know. Even if it is only for one evening," Madeline smiled. Harry replied with a nod and the pair turned to look at the crowd.
A peaceful silence fell between the two as people danced the night away. Madeline soon noticed Harry smiling, looking at a young red-haired girl dancing away on her own amongst the people, her smile bright and carefree. Madeline smiled to herself. Then an idea struck her.
"Go talk to her," Madeline encouraged Harry. He looked at her with confusion for a moment before refusing. Seeing that he was too shy to approach her, Madeline grabbed Harry's hand and pulled him to the dance floor, ignoring the younger man's confused reluctance.
"Listen to me, go and ask her to dance with you, Harry," Madeline said almost sternly.
"But-"
"No buts, go ahead! She looks to be free now. Go, will you!" Madeline said, ushering him to the dance floor. Harry sighed and looked at the girl he had been admiring. With one last encouraging smile and nod from Madeline, he left to approach her.
From a distance, Madeline saw Harry approach the girl shyly and ask her to dance, to which she happily agreed. She smiled to herself, satisfied, as she saw them dancing away, dreamy smiles on their faces.
"Young love's always adorable, isn't it?" Madeline turned around and saw the warm and friendly hazel eyes with which she had first familiarized herself a few days back.
"Professor Weasley? I wasn't expecting to see you here," Madeline said with a surprised look.
"Please don't call me that, makes me sound ancient," Charlie said, feigning annoyance.
"Then I shall make it my ultimate mission to call you that always," Madeline joked, making Charlie and her laugh.
"You still haven't answered my question though," Madeline pointed after they both recovered from their fit of laughter.
"I actually came along with my family. That's my sister dancing with the young lad," Charlie pointed at the red-haired girl chatting with Harry. He then pointed her to his family who were standing amongst the crowd. From there she noticed Bill Weasley too standing with them.
"Oh, so Bill Weasley is your brother," Madeline remarked with a smirk, "didn't he ever mention meeting me?"
"Actually, he did, but I guess I never knew which "Madeline" he was talking about. He said her identity was a secret," Charlie remarked.
"All good things said, I hope?" Madeline quirked a brow at him.
"Only the best, Madeline," Charlie replied with a playful grin.
The pair continued to watch the crowd of dancers at the ball. Suddenly, the music changed from the merry tune being played earlier to a more slowed and romantic waltz. Many couples started to dance to romantic music.
"Dance with me?" Charlie suddenly asked Madeline, a lopsided grin gracing his face.
Madeline smiled to herself and replied, "With pleasure," as she accepted his hand and let him lead her to the dance floor.
Charlie looked at Madeline for a split second, silently asking permission as his hand hovered beside her waist, to which Madeline nodded and placed her hand on his shoulder as he gently placed his on her waist. Taking his hand in hers, the pair spun in circles, shuffling their feet to the slow, rhythmic music. As she sensed herself getting lost in the rhythm, Madeline's chocolate brown eyes connected with Charlie's hazel eyes, a mix of warm honey and cinnamon with a hint of grassy green.
"So, how did you enjoy our first lesson?" Charlie asked, breaking the silence, a hint of nervousness evident in his voice.
"I actually loved it! It was brilliant learning about this subject from you. I hope we can do it again," Madeline replied with a smile, making Charlie let out a breath he unconsciously held onto and smile. Charlie then spun Madeline in his arms, almost making her trip, but he quickly helped steady her. The two went back to swaying casually to the beat.
"I'm glad you did, cus I did too. I'm looking forward to doing it again... this Thursday maybe?"
"It's settled then. I'll meet you this Thursday." Madeline smiled, "I'm actually surprised you liked teaching me," Charlie frowned with confusion at Madeline, the song playing in the background long forgotten by them.
"I mean... I know nothing, and you know so much. All I do is cut ribbons, smile agreeably and wave at people. My life is defined by what dresses I wear and whom I smile at, while yours is represented by the vast world of this incredible and convoluted subject" Madeline heaved a sigh, her emotions unclear from her expression.
"Hey, give yourself some credit," Charlie said softly. He slowly moved his body closer to her and continued, "What you do is something very few can do. It's admirable how you keep yourself so composed after all you've already been through. So I disagree about you being bland because you are one of the most fascinating people I have ever met in my life." Charlie replied with firmness and confidence.
Madeline felt blood rush to her cheeks and a smile form on her lips at Charlie's words. It was true that she barely gave herself any credit for what she did. But hearing Charlie's words solidified how little she gave herself credit for. Yet his words provided her comfort and faith about her work, a compliment, something that anyone rarely told her, let alone actually mean it.
"Thank you for that, Charlie," Madeline replied softly.
"I consider it my priority, my Queen," Charlie winked at Madeline with a playful smirk making Madeline chuckle and shake her head dismissively.
Suddenly, the music changed to a classic Mozart piece, one of Madeline's favourites. The melody was gentle yet romantic, making one lose a sense of reality.
Madeline and Charlie continued to dance the night away in their careless dances. They weren't sure what style of dance they were doing. Between Madeline tripping constantly and Charlie almost confusing the right from the left, it was an absolute mess. But they didn't care. It was the company that mattered. They spent the rest of the evening laughing at random jokes and talking about their lives. It was as if they'd known each other for years. It was a magical night for the start of a new friendship.
And maybe something more.

Rowan's Recovery.
Summary: After finding a secret hallway staircase and mysterious magical ice gate, Madeline helped Rowan back to the hospital wing, where madam Pumphrey took the latter under her care. While Rowan healed, Madeline continued to find and practice spells to break the curse of the ice door. And Rowan had the perfect person in mind her do so.
A/N: Finally!! I completed this in time for my hiatus. Hope you guys enjoy this chapter.
Warnings: mention of blood and injuries.
A while after the duel in the secret corridor, Rowan started to gain consciousness, after which Madeline helped her up and to the infirmary, where she found Madam Pumphrey sipping on a cup of tea at her desk.
The matron immediately got up, when she saw Madeline kick open the door and hobble inside while supporting Rowan.
"My! Ms Orionswan, what happened?" she exclaimed as she helped Rowan onto a bed.
Madeline didn't reply and helped the matron, lifting Rowan's feet onto the bed, also trying to think of an excuse.
"Uh... well, we were practising spells and while doing so, we came across this really cool ice spell and I wanted to try it and well," Madeline said, not attempting to finish her words.
Madam Pumphrey surprisingly seemed to be convinced with her excuse, shaking her head dismissively and quickly started to disinfect Rowan's wounds and bandage them.
It was silent for a few minutes, with the occasional groans emitted by Rowan and the taps of Madam Pumphrey's shoes as she ushered Madeline onto a bed and bandaged her bleeding elbow, shoulder and cheek.
"Alright, you look good to go back to your dorm Ms Orionswan. Make sure you come back in tomorrow so that I can change the bandages," the matron said, getting up.
"Can I stay tonight?" Madeline said abruptly, fiddling with her finger.
While Madam Pumphrey would have rather shoed her away, Madeline's pleading expression made her agree, although not without warning her not to disturb Rowan and the other sick students (of which there were surprisingly many😂).
Madeline sat beside Rowan, staying up the entire night to make she needed any help. To say that Madeline was scared for Rowan when she got hurt would be an understatement. The whole night she stayed beside her, but as the first rays of dawn began to shine through the elongated windows, sleep took over her as she was lulled to sleep on the chair beside Rowan's bed.
She was deep in her slumber when she felt someone shake her gently on the shoulder. Madeline squinted her eyes and saw Penny smiling sadly at her.
"How long have I been out?" Madeline asked groggily.
"About two hours," Penny said.
"What happened, Madeline?" Penny asked with concern, "Madam Pumphrey said Rowan hasn't moved since you both came here!"
"We were close to finding the Cursed Vault and obviously didn't think things through. As soon as we got close to the door, it blasted Rowan with ice," she said, with a sigh.
"Why didn't you tell me about this? I could've helped you out!!" Penny exclaimed.
"I- guess I hadn't thought about it," Madeline said with remorse, "Ugh it's all my fault, I was too desperate to find out what happened with Ben and my brother that I hadn't even thought about Rowan's safety and now look what happened!" Madeline groaned with frustration, burying her face in her palms.
"Hey don't blame yourself Madie," Madeline's eyes shot up and she penny both looked at Rowan's bed, where they saw she was awake.
"Rowan! Are you alright?!" Madeline exclaimed and Penny moved to her bedside.
"I feel like I got run over by the Knight Bus," Rowan groaned, shaking her head a little.
"And with reason Ms Khanna," The girls all looked up to see Madam Pumphrey standing at the foot of Rowan's bed.
The matron moved to take Rowan's temperature and tutted with concern when she saw the reading. Madeline and Penny waited as Madam Pumphrey continued her check-up of Rowan. When she finished, she turned to the girls, who were looking at her worried, yet expectant.
"Unfortunately, I think Ms Khanna will be indisposed for the week," she declared.
"What?! What about my classes, I-I've got homework and I can't miss an entire week's work!" Rowan exclaimed!
"No no, It's alright. I'll take the notes for you," Madeline said, holding Rowan's hand, "You just focus on getting better."
"If you say so Madie. The best way to honour my memory is to take down all the notes like I do. Colour coded of course," Rowan replied with a happy sigh and chuckle, making Madeline and Penny chuckle with relief.
The girls bid Rowan goodbye before heading off to potions class, which Madeline wasn't excited about... as usual. While turning around the alley to potions class, Madeline met with Merula and her group, cackling with laughter. Merula stopped laughing when she saw Madeline and quirked her eyebrow with a smirk.
"Look who decided to show up!" she said haughtily, "what've you been up to Orionswan? Some of us have really missed you," she mocked and her group laughed along with her.
"If you must know, I've been avoiding you," Madeline said not bothering to stop and talk to her and walked inside the classroom alongside Penny.
"Try all you want orionswan. But when my plan comes to fruition no one will be able to deny my power," Merula said out loud from behind Madeline, to which she rolled her eyes and sat down beside Penny.
And just as Madeline's luck would have it, Merula was able to find her place right beside Madeline.
"Is that why you make such a point to bully others? To get attention?" Madeline asked sardonically, making Merula almost growl with anger.
"Like everything else in your life, your search for the vaults is doomed. You'll see, I'll find it before you!"
"What makes you think you've even got a lead, huh?"
"Now now, let's not fight Madie," Penny said, trying to pull aside Madeline and stop her from aggravating the situation further.
Right then, professor Snape walked into the room, making a beeline for Madeline, his cape gliding dramatically, with his sharp turn to her desk.
"I've received information that will have dire consequences for you. We will discuss it at the end of the class," he said, emphasising every word as he does.
"You are in for it now, orionswan. I wonder... will Snape expel you or murder you?" Merula mocked. Madeline scoffed and turned back to her and Penny's cauldron, making sure to focus on that for the rest of the class.
At the end of the class, Madeline walked up to Snape as the rest of the class dispersed, but not before Madeline heard, Merula and her group snickering at her, which she ignored.
"You wanted to see me, professor?" Madeline asked.
"Not long ago I visited your dormitory, orionswan," Snape started, a deep scowl etched on his face.
"Uhm why?" Madeline frowned.
"I received information that you have been stealing supplies from my classroom," Snape said.
"What ?! That's ridiculous, sir. I would never do that!" Madeline denied it incredulously.
"Then explain why potion ingredients were found in the drawer next to your bed," Snape said, raising his brow.
Madeline stuttered for a second, before quickly realising why Merula had been making it a point to tease her.
"I believe Merula had a part in this. Honestly, she has made it a point to do anything and everything to get me expelled," Madeline said, making Snape frown.
"Then how do you presume she got into the Gryffindor common room?" Snape quirked a brow.
"I wouldn't put it past her to try and blackmail or bribe someone to get in there, sir."
Snape's eyes went towards Merula, who had been standing at the door of the class, snickering at Madeline along with her mates. Snape walked over to Merula and her gang, who immediately stiffened as they saw him approach.
"Is it true that you sabotaged Orionswan, Ms Snyde?" Snape asked darkly.
"O-of course not! I mean e-even I want to see orionswan expelled, but only because she's a disgrace and a danger to everyone at Hogwarts," Merula said, trying to appear as if she was blameless.
Madeline rolled her eyes. It was pretty obvious that she was lying. Snape sighed, "I genuinely wish you weren't lying."
"What?" Merula asked, taken aback.
"Your eyes dart back and forth ever so slightly when aren't telling the truth Ms Snyde. You are an absolutely atrocious liar. Especially for a Slytherin," Snape said. Merula was about to protest but Snape continued.
"You will stay after class for the rest of the year and clean and organise all of the supplies as punishment for attempting to frame Ms Orionswan," Snape declared, making Merula turn red with anger.
Madeline chuckled to herself, as Snape dismissed her and she headed for the hospital wing as Merula continued to throw a fit about how "innocent" she was.
---
Madeline was quick to notice Rowan reading to herself in the hospital wing. She smiled and walked up to her, gently tapping Rowan's shoulder to grab her attention.
"Madeline! You came to visit my sick old bones!" Rowan said, enunciating her words with a cough.
"At least it's much better than listening to Merula grumble all day about how she deserves better opportunities than mingle among us lowly half-bloods and Mudbloods," Madeline said, rolling her eyes and making both the girls burst with laughter.
"And I also brought you this book about Wendelin the weird, from the library," Madeline handed the dusty old book to Rowan, whose eyes sparkled with delight.
"Thanks, Madie! She's one of my favourite witches from the middle ages," Rowan said gleefully, making Madeline smile.
"I wanted to ask how you're doing?" Madeline asked, her voice filled with concern.
"I'm doing better...but not great," Rowan sighed, "I think that Cursed ice did something to me. It felt like the longer we were in that corridor, the more the cold drew my strength."
"We're definitely dressing warmly the next time we go back," Madeline said, holding Rowan's hand, a small smile on her face.
"Yeah, next time..." Rowan drifted off, making Madeline forwn.
"Is something wrong, Ro?"
As if breaking out of a trance, Rowan shook her head and forced a meek smile, "I think I'm just tired. Let's talk about what you can do differently when you return to the vaults, other than dressing warmly and practising Incedio."
"It's alright, we'll think of something else," Madeline said, placing a hand on Rowan's shoulder, "You should go back to resting Ro."
"Yeah... I should, Ro muttered tiredly.
"Good night Rowan," Madeline smiled softly and got up, as Rowan smiled meekly and started to fall asleep.
Madeline smiled to herself as she left the hospital wing. But her smile slowly dropped as she thought to herself about Rowan's demeanour as they talked. But then again, she had been through a lot. She would ask her about it the tomorrow, Madeline thought to herself as she walked up to her dorm room and crashed straight into her bed.
It had been a pretty long day.
---
The next morning Madeline had breakfast with Penny in the Great Hall before the blonde headed to Charms class while Madeline headed to Flying class at the Training Grounds.
Madeline had hurried down to the grounds, excited to let off some steam while soaring in the air with her broom. But someone and her group of friends had to ruin her idea of relaxation.
"They say your little friend Khanna ended up in the Hospital Wing, trying to help you find a cursed vault," Merula sneered as Madeline walked onto the ground.
"Don't pretend as if you care," Madeline seethed.
"Oh, don't worry. I don't care about your friend. At least not as much as the Cursed Vaults," merula rolled her eyes, "though not as much as your brother."
"Why do you think he was so obsessed with them, orionswan?" she asked mockingly.
"Maybe he was interested in gaining knowledge rather than power, unlike you," Madeline said through gritted teeth.
"Only if you know what actually happened to him," Merula mocked. Madeline whipped her head around at Merula, who had a proud smirk on her face.
"You know about my brother?" Madeline asked, her brows furrowed in disbelief.
"Tell me what you know!" Madeline exclaimed, making Merula roll her eyes.
"Later Orionswan, class is about to start," Merula dismissed and went away with her gang, leaving Madeline alone, her mind clouded with questions.
The class was DEFINITELY not as relaxing as Madeline had hoped it would be. Although she did have a moment to relax while she was floating up in the air on her broom. She did have to keep an eye on her friend Ben, who was like a cat in water when left to fly on his broom.
After class, Madeline was quick to catch up with Merula. She smacked her shoulder to catch her attention and pulled her aside.
"Now, will you tell me what you know about my brother's disappearance," Madeline pushed.
Merula pretended to think for a bit, at which Madeline glared at her.
"I will... as long as you do something for me."
Of course. There had to be a but for her. Madeline mentally smacked herself as she thought of how dumb she'd been. Obviously, Merula was going to have a plot twist.
"What do you want?" Madeline sighed, exasperatedly.
"It's unlikely, ineptitude, but I want you to tell me whenever you find a cursed vault," merula said with a smirk.
Madeline thought for a second, to herself, before smirking. "Deal," she said, if Merula could add a plot twist, so could she.
Merula seemed to not believe her for a second, but shrugged and continued, "alright then, I'll tell you everything about your brother as soon as you find and tell me about the cursed vault."
Madeline groaned as Merula walked away with a laugh.
"I'd hurry if I were you, Orionswan. From what I heard, your brother doesn't have very long in there," Merula taunted back, which Madeline decide to ignore. She was going to make sure she got that bit of information from Merula, by hook or by crook.
---
The entire day Madeline tried to focus her mind on her classes and trying to find spells to break the curse on the vault. But Merula's remark kept on ringing in her head.
From what I heard, your brother doesn't have very long in there.
What did she mean by that?
Was he still out there...somewhere?
Madeline shook her head and let out a sigh. These thoughts had bogged her mind for the entire day. Clearly, her brain had decided to annoy her. She snapped shut the hefty book on charms, pushing it aside. She grabbed her pillow and let out a frustrated groan into it. For a moment, it made her feel better.
Honestly, Rowan was better at dealing with these things. It was during these times Madeline really missed her friend's company. She got up from her four-poster bed and put on a robe over her t-shirt and pyjamas before heading downstairs to grab dinner with Rowan.
Rowan was allowed to sit in the Great Hall, courtesy of Madeline's request to Madam Pumphrey, who, grudgingly, let Rowan sit in the Great Hall for the night. The girls smiled as they relaxed in their seats and enjoyed dinner. It had been a couple days since they had their dinner together, but it felt like ages.
"How're you doing now?" Madeline asked as she took a bit of her shepherd's pie.
"Much better. Though, I still get a chill up and down my spine every once in a while," Rowan mused, sipping on her warm soup, forcing a small smile.
But Madeline sensed an uneasiness in Rowan. She could have chalked it up to her just being tired and uncomfortable after her accident, but she knew it was more than that.
"You still seem sorta down. Are you sure you're alright?" Maeline asked with concern.
Rowan sighed. She knew she would have to talk about this sooner or later.
"Madeline, I've been wanting to tell this you for a while but I guess I've been thickening out..."Rowan started nervously, "To put this straight, ever since last time, I don't want to return to the vaults."
"What-"
"Every time I go I feel as if I can't help you in all of the action and I just hold you back with my eagerness to discover the corridors. So I think it's better if I don't accompany you." Rowan said with a sad sigh.
"Ro, don't say that! Without you, I don't know what I would do in the vaults," Madeline said with a slight smile.
"Who's going to help me figure out all of the clues when I'm in there? And you know full well that I can't even complete Snape's potions homework without your help, let alone solve cryptic messages in an old room," Madeline said, making Rowan chuckle.
"Thanks, Madie, I needed that," Rowan said, feeling reassured.
"And don't you dare say you're not strong enough, because you're the strongest person I know," Madeline reassured her while holding her hand across the table. Rowan grinned and squeezed Madeline's hand back.
The girls continued to talk about how Madeline could break the curse of the vaults throughout dinner while brainstorming other related ideas. Madeline made sure to not pressurise her friend to join her next time, all the while making sure that Rowan knew how much Madeline appreciated her, making her feel much more confident in herself.
"I think you should go back to the wing now. Otherwise, madame Pumphrey will have my head," Madeline said when she noticed the hall only consisted of a few other 7th years other than them.
"Yeah, you're right, let's get going," Rowan said, getting up from her place.
The girls slowly walked to the now silent hospital wing. However, before they reached Rowan asked Madeline what she planned on doing the next time she went to the vault. Both of them knew that it wouldn't be the best idea for Rowan to be there right now.
"I'm just probably going to head there alone. It's not worth the risk of bringing everyone along right away," Madeline mused.
"But you still need someone to help you, what's going to happen if you get hit by the curse?" Rowan fretted. Madeline just shrugged in reply, making Rowan shake her head.
"You need someone to help you, Madie. Someone who's an able wizard and good at spells, especially defence ones," Rowan robbed her chin in thought.
"And who do suppose that would be?" Madeline raised a brow incredulously.
"Bill Weasley, of course!"

Thank you for the tag @madelineorionswan please accept this doddle of Madeline and the trio. Since Sadie is close to Madie, the duo huddled close like glue. Hector and Jamie joined in.
Jamie: Get close everyone, ready? Say "Crows!" Everyone gave their brightest smile*
