Alena’s head bobbed, causing her to wake up. She blinked her eyes a few times, checking her phone to see Angel texted her once again. She quickly replied to him and looked back down at the enormous amount of folders around her. Why didn’t this person digitize their files? Now she had to go over each and every one of them.
“The more you think about how many files we have to look through the more frustrated you’ll be.” She heard Victor tease her.
Victor Costa was her next door neighbor and Cruz’s occasional babysitter. He was a good guy and Alena got on well with him. They first met on Alena’s first day at the job seven years ago and he had taken her around. He was always sweet to her and Alena truly cherished their friendship.
“I know, sorry.” Alena sighed. “It’s a Friday night, don’t you have plans?” Victor didn’t need to stay with her, but all her other co-workers left as soon as Mr. Johnson left the office.
“Honestly sweetheart, no place I rather be.” Victor grinned.
“I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic?”
“I’m not, our co-workers are awful people who always leave you their work. Stand up for yourself Alena, no one will hate you if you do.” Victor stayed with Alena often since their co-workers were lazy pricks who knew Alena didn’t mind doing the work since it took away from her headache on Monday mornings. “You need to go out and enjoy yourself.”
“Me? You need to go out and enjoy yourself too. Didn’t you say you had a date?” Alena opened another folder, browsing through the paperwork for any discrepancies.
“Maybe, are you jealous?” Victor didn’t have a date, but he did tell one of their co-workers that shows kept asking him out on a date.
“Absolutely.” Alena took notes on a few documents, closing the folder and picking up another.
“You don’t want to go on a date?” Victor knew of Alena’s situation. He’s been her neighbor for years and out of nowhere she was married with a kid. He didn’t push her and Alena eventually told him everything when she became frustrated of Angel’s coldness. Angel could be cold towards her at times and when he did, Victor would be her confidant. Someone outside of their inner circle who had no biases and helped her. Well, he may have been biased towards her, but he couldn’t help it.
“I’m married.”
“Come on Alena, you tell me all the time it’s a matter of convenience. It wouldn’t exactly be cheating if you go out on a date or two.” Maybe he was selfish, he knew that, but he’s had a crush on Alena for years, but he never made a move due to the fear of rejection and he just knew that Angel had Alena wrapped around his fingers and he truly disliked him for that. How could he walk all over such a sweet, kind and beautiful young woman who has given more than enough for him?
“Yes, but I would feel terrible. I know I don’t owe Angel anything, but that doesn’t mean I would disrespect the sanctity of marriage in such a way.” Alena tried to keep her focus on the folders wanting to get through this, Angel was waiting for her and she hated it when she kept them waiting or anyone really.
“Your father.”
“I just, Cruz is my main priority. This whole thing is confusing as it is, I don’t want to add someone else into the mix. Once Angel and I get divorced then it won’t be a problem.” Alena anticipated it to occur next year, which shouldn’t be a problem. If everything worked out, she could transfer to another firm in New York, something Mr. Johnson has offered her numerous times. But at the same time she couldn’t part from Cruz, he was her mother. Maybe she wouldn’t give Angel full custody. They could share. She was Cruz’s parent as much as him. Blood wasn’t what tied people together. “I sound like an idiot don’t I?”
She’s heard it all before.
That she was an idiot for everything she’s done. That no amount of debt to Angel should have had her doing this for him. But Angel was her friend before this whole ordeal. He saved her from being sexually assaulted. He was there for her when his father left and they became homeless for a period of time.
There were just good people in this world, why couldn’t people just take that for face value and not have a reason for helping a friend out?
“You’re not an idiot. You’re a kind person Alena, no one should ever fault you because you are genuine. I think it’s admirable what you’re doing for Angel.” Though Victor wished Angel didn’t lock her in a marriage, then maybe he would have a chance on Alena.
“Thank you,” she shyly smiled. Victor was a good looking man and she always wondered how he was still single. “Enough about me, why are you still single?”
“I’m married to my job, remember?” Victor was married to his job, well not at the law firm, but as an arts dealer. He produced art galleries all over the countries for top notch artists. It was his first love.
“You were married before weren’t you?”
“Puppy love,” he shook his head. “It was a mistake that I greatly learned from.”
“Did she break your heart?”
“Oh, absolutely not, I ran away from her.” Victor chuckled. “I just haven’t found the right person I guess.”
“You’ll find someone, plenty of women in this office are vying for a shot with you.”
“Are you included in that?”
“No, you’re around me enough, I think I’m fine.” Alena giggled. “You’re a good guy, but you know I’m married.”
“So if you weren’t married, you’d give me a shot?” He was pushing it, he knew that but he couldn’t help it.
“Me? You have all these women vying for you, I would not like to fight women for your attention.” Alena shook her head. “I get into enough conflicts due to Angel, I’m honestly good.”
“Women fought you because of Angel?”
“Yes, all the time.” Alena rolled her eyes. “All those women in Santo Padre befriended me because of Angel, then once Angel rejected them or something to that effect, it was a free for all.” Alena laughed. It was always amusing for her. They would just fling words towards her, never actually getting physical. Alright, maybe once she was involved in a physics altercation, but she would take that to the grave.
“Didn’t know your husband was such a hot commodity.”
“Oh, he is, I’m a lucky one.”
“Maybe I should go on a date.” Victor has had a crush on Alena for the past four years. It was time for him to take the plunge.
“You should! Ask the girl you’ve been telling me about.” Alena excitedly encouraged him.
Victor grinned, happy with how excited she was. He didn’t care if she was married, they weren’t actually together.
He was going to ask her out and there was nothing Angel could do about it.
=============
Angel lounged around Alena’s apartment, waiting for her to come home. It’s been an eventful two weeks with the cartel and the rebels taking up a majority of his time. Creeper was out after a wound sustained during an attack so now, everyone was on edge. To top it off, Adelita just kidnapped Cristobal, which made everything that much more stressful. He was thankful for a break.
It was Friday night and to avoid the debacle that occurred two weeks ago, he decided to pick up Alena.
It was ten at night and she was still not home.
She texted him two hours ago that she was finishing things up at the office and would be back soon. It made him antsy, but he saw that in her location on his phone, she was at the office. Cruz was sleeping on the couch as Angel watched television. They might as well stay here for the night since there was no point of going back to Santo Padre when Cruz was resting comfortably.
He heard the lock turn along with the doorknob. Alena walked in, leaning on the door before taking a deep breath. She locked the door and placed her bag on the bench by the door. Making her way to the kitchen, she got a bottle of water before making her way to the couch. She knew Angel was there, she heard the television.
Without so much of a word, she placed her bottle on the table. She straddled Angel, sitting on his lap before wrapping her arms around him and resting her head at the crook of his neck. Letting out a sigh, she felt her body relax. She shouldn’t count on Angel for this, but she would indulge herself this time due to her long day at work.
“You okay cielo?” Angel ran his fingers up and down her back. He loved holding Alena. She always fit so well in his arms.
“I’m tired. We had to finish research for a case tonight and my eyes feel like they’re going to fall off.” Alena snuggled her face on Angel’s neck, making him chuckle. She liked the feel of his beard. “Are sugar daddies an option?”
Angel laughed once again. He pulled her hair softly so she could move her head back. He kissed her, resting his forehead against her and smirked. “Absolutely not.”
Alena wanted to argue with Angel then. The kisses and sex were nice, but she really didn’t want to keep stomping on that line. She buried her face at the crook of his neck once more closing her eyes. She wanted the headache to go away along with the eye dryness. Her eyes opened thinking of Cruz, but she watched him as he slept comfortably on the couch.
“Should we get going?” Alena questioned.
“Ssh mi cielo, go to sleep.” Angel told her, his fingers still soothingly moving up and down her back. Not long, Alena was asleep in his arms. Angel felt more relaxed with Alena in his arms. He closed his eyes then, letting sleep take over his exhausted body.
The following morning, Cruz was the first to wake up. He looked up and saw his father holding his mother as they slept. He went to the bathroom, flushing and washing his hand once he was done. Making his way back out, he took his father’s phone and took a picture. He giggled. He always took pictures of his parents. Angel was holding Alena, both arms around her, head resting on hers, while Alena was still on his lap, head resting on his shoulder.
Cruz crawled over to his parents, forcing his way under Angel’s arms so his mommy could hold him. Angel groaned, wrapping his arms around Alena again, not letting Cruz in.
“Daddy,” Cruz shook Angel. This was unacceptable. It was his time to cuddle with mommy.
Angel stirred, slowly opening his eyes. He blinked a few times before letting out a yawn. “What is it Cruz?”
“You can’t hog mommy all to yourself.” Cruz crossed his arms over his chest, pouting.
Angel chuckled. “Why not? Daddy loves mommy.” He tightened his hold on Alena, causing her to wake up.
“I love mommy more!” Cruz declared.
“Mommy loves you both.” Alena let out a small laugh as she moved, the ache of her sleeping position immediately seeping in.
“Mommy!” Cruz moved Angel’s arm and crawled in between them. He wrapped his arms around Alena’s neck, causing her to lean back. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too baby.” Alena kissed the side of his head. “Good morning.” She greeted Angel as he watched her. His hands were on her thighs and she felt his morning wood against her. He smirked at her as she shot him a look, telling him to behave. “Should we head out soon?”
“No, let’s just stay here.” Angel needed a break from the cartel. A break from Santo Padre. What better way than to stay in San Diego and be with his two favorite people. He had texted Bishop last night and requested if he could have a few days off to spend some time with Alena and Bishop graciously granted him some time off.
“What? They don’t need you?” Angel never took time off, it was rare. He was devoted to the club, which Alena didn’t mind, she understood his loyalty.
“I honestly don’t care right now. I just want some time with my family.” Angel shrugged. “I’m just tired is all.”
“Okay, whatever you want to do. We can stay in if you want.” Alena offered. She loved lowkey weekends. Just to be able to lounge around the house with her boys, she cherished it because there was that thought at the back of her mind that it wouldn’t always be like this. One day, Angel won’t need her and she would just be another distant face for Cruz. She hated thinking that way and she was always able to reason that Cruz was legally her son, but she didn’t want to get her hopes up, it would help with the disappointment and heartache.
“We gotta get some groceries though, I don’t know if you’re aware, but you literally have no edible food here.” Angel teased her. He knew Alena lived off take out since she was usually too exhausted to cook when she got home.
“Haha, very funny. Maybe we can grill some meat for dinner. We can get some meat at the store, just stay in.”
“That sounds fucking delicious baby.” Alena hit Angel making Cruz giggle.
“Daddy said a bad word.” Cruz let out an ‘oooh’.
“Daddy is allowed to say bad words, but who can’t say bad words?”
“Mommy?” He tilted his head.
“Cruz can’t.” Alena playfully narrowed her eyes at him. She looked at her watch and it was only seven in the morning. “Can we sleep more?”
“I’m onboard with that.” Angel nodded his head.
“But it’s morning now.” Cruz argued.
“Mommy is tired, does Cruz want to cuddle with mommy?” Angel knew his son was a sucker for his mother. If mommy wanted to sleep, Cruz was sleeping with mommy.
Cruz climbed off Alena’s lap and took her hand. “Cuddle time!”
Angel chuckled as Alena gave him a look before kissing his cheek. He felt his cheeks heat up at such a simple gesture and he just shook his head. He watched as Alena and Cruz made their way to her bedroom. It was insane for him how attached Cruz was to Alena. He was almost certain Cruz liked Alena more than he liked him, and he couldn’t blame him. Alena had them wrapped around her fingers and she didn’t even know it.
“Angel, are you coming?”
“Yeah babe, I’m coming.”
=============
Angel placed the last of their bags on the table, Cruz was eating the chocolate dipped sticks happily on the couch, PJ Masks was currently playing. Alena was in the room, changing into some shorts and a shirt. Angel just wore basketball shorts and a white tee the whole day, so he was good.
As he was putting away the groceries, there was a knock on the door. But it wasn’t a regular knock. It was a special type of knock. Whatever it was, it made Cruz jump off the couch.
“I got it!” He shouted.
Angel looked at Cruz like he was insane. He knew he wasn’t supposed to open doors without him or Alena. He followed after his son.
"Hi Mr. Vic, mommy is changing." Angel looked down at his son like he was insane. Cruz knew he wasn't supposed to open the door. Might be an old man since he called him Mr. Vic. It was the same man that Alena spoke about a few weeks ago. He thought it was sweet that Alena was helping out the senior citizens. Though, Alena helped fucking everyone, which slightly irritated him every now and then. She could be fucking hurt or something. What if that person was fooling her and hurt her?
"Little man, I told you to call me Victor, or Uncle Victor. Mr. Vic makes me feel old." When Angel came to the door, he almost slammed it shut. It was Valeria's ex-husband, Victor Costa. Victor looked up at him, obviously sizing him up. He nodded his head. “You the husband?”
“You the sitter?” He wondered if Victor knew that Cruz was Valeria’s kid. There was no fucking way this was a coincidence. But at the same time, he knew Victor moved to San Diego to get the fuck away from Valeria and bless him, he couldn’t blame the man. This world was too fucking small.
He couldn’t believe this bullshit. Of all the fucking people to be Alena’s neighbor, it was this guy?
Alena walked out the room and saw that Angel and Cruz were at the door. She walked over and a smile spread across her lips.
“Victor! Hey!” She greeted him enthusiastically. She moved in front of Angel and was going to hug Victor when Angel pulled her back by her shirt, pulling her against him. “Hey, what are you doing?” She murmured at Angel.
“The fuck are you doing?” Angel couldn’t believe Alena was going to hug this man in front of her. This man even fucking knew they were married.
“I’m just gonna say hi.” She tried to take her shirt back but Angel had a grip on it.
“Uncle Victor, do you want to eat? Mommy is making us food.” Cruz invited him. Angel looked down at his son as if he grew two heads. How was he going to invite this man into their home? Sure he took care of Cruz, but that didn’t mean he invited him in without asking for permission.
“Maybe next time little man, I actually wanted to talk to mommy, is that okay?”
Cruz looked at Angel who shook his head no, he turned to Victor and nodded his head. “That’s okay.”
Angel rolled his eyes, letting go of Alena’s shirt. Alena moved to hug Victor then and Angel had to admit, he didn’t like the scene before him. Seeing Alena hugged by his brothers were different, they knew how everything stood, but this man obviously didn’t give a flying a fuck they were married. Maybe that’s why he and Valeria didn’t work out. Though Angel was certain Valeria was more to blame with her psychotic ass. The only good thing that came out of his relationship with Valeria was Cruz. Other than that, the bitch could go fuck herself.
“Keep the door open, you know your door automatically locks.” Angel advised her before he took Cruz back to the couch. At least it appeared so. He was right behind the door listening in.
“What’s up?” Alena asked, slightly coming outside, but holding the door slightly ajar so she can go back in.
“Remember our conversation last night?” Victor questioned.
“We had lots to keep us going and I was also half asleep, you want to remind me which one?” She tilted her head, trying to remember which conversation he was referring too.
Angel paused. Wait, they worked together and lived in the same building? Was this guy stalking his wife? Why was she so chummy with him? The fuck was that? He didn’t like this guy one bit.
“Mommy said it’s not good for us to,” Cruz paused not remembering the right word. “To be a chismoso.”
Angel was amused by his son’s choice of words. Alena spoke Spanish to his son and from time to time Korean. “Well why’d you let mommy talk to that man?” He whispered hoping Alena wouldn’t hear them.
“That’s mommy’s best friend.” He mimicked Angel’s tone, speaking lowly.
“I’m mommy’s best friend.” Angel informed his son. And he was Alena’s best friend. With everything they’ve been through with Cruz and even before that, Alena was the closest person to him that wasn’t blood related. Hell, she was closer to him than his own blood. She knew his deepest and darkest secrets and she never batted an eye. She still treated him the same, touched him the same regardless of how shitty he was.
He didn’t deserve her.
But he wasn’t going to let her go either.
Fuck it if that meant he was selfish.
“No silly, you’re mommy’s husband.” Cruz giggled.
Alena looked at them and they both smiled at her.
“Are you done?”
“No.” She went back outside. “Sorry, so which conversation again?”
“About putting myself out there.”
“Oh yes, did you ask out Courtney?”
Victor chuckled. “Why do you presume I like Courtney?”
“Cause you do? I see you looking at her.” She teased him.
“I’m looking at you Alena. You and Courtney are in the same vicinity, but I’m looking at you.” Victor looked at Alena nervously, she gave him an odd look as if he didn’t understand what he was trying to insinuate. “I like you Alena.”
“Me?”
Alena and Victor both heard a what? And a daddy let's go on the couch.
“So, would you like to go on a date?”
“Who?”
Victor chuckled. “You Alena, who else am I talking to?”
“Oh.” Alena was surprised. Victor never expressed any interest in her and he knew the situation. “I’m married.”
“Isn’t it out of convenience? Come on, one date. Doesn’t even have to be a date, just two friends hanging out.” Victor offered. He’d take whatever he could get from Alena
Angel looked at Cruz and put him down. Who did this motherfucker think he was? He saw Angel, he knew they were married and he had the audacity to say it was out of convenience. And it was but why the fuck would Alena tell him? Was she interested in him?
“Sure, but just as friends.” Alena’s reply halted Angel’s movement, she said yes? Oh, this girl was in trouble.
“Yes, just as friends.”
“Ooh, what’s going on here?” Angel heard Carla, EZ’s girlfriend questioned.
“Where’s Angel?” He heard EZ question.
“You have company. I’ll leave you to it. Next Friday at 6?”
“Sure, I’ll see you at work.” Alena nodded her head.
“Who is that?” Carla questioned watching Victor walk down the hallway.
“That’s my neighbor Victor, the one that takes care of Cruz.” Victor worked with Alena, but unlike her he didn’t need to be at the office everyday. So whenever Alena needed a sitter, Victor graciously offered a helping hand.
“You mean the one with the crush on you?”
“Excuse me, what now?” Angel appeared out of thin air surprising both women.
EZ chuckled. ‘Oh this was going to be a fun night.’
=============
Carla and Alena sat outside at the balcony, overlooking the ocean. Alena was able to land the apartment thanks to her boss, who apparently owned the building. Carla had to say that Alena had one of the best views and she was certain it was due to her boss favoring her. Nothing malicious, but ever since Alena started working for Mr. Johnson seven years ago, the hotshot lawyer took care of Alena. She reminded him of the daughter he lost a few years prior to Alena’s arrival. And much like Angel, he knew that his other employees took advantage of Alena’s kindness, but Alena didn’t want to get anyone in trouble.
Carla and Alena have known one another for nearly fifteen years. It still amazed Carla just how kind and selfless Alena was. If she was being honest, it was irritating at times because people walked all over her and Alena just brushed it off. She didn’t seem bothered by people using her, she just genuinely wanted to help people. She always reasoned with Carla that she was collecting good karma points. But Carla figured it had something to do with Alena not liking conflict. She was a helper, it was embedded in her, but sometimes, it was too much. A prime example was marrying Angel and being a mother to his son. She admired her best friend’s actions, Cruz was an adorable kid, but Angel was also taking advantage of the situation.
Angel was using their marriage as a way to keep Alena to him since he wasn’t ready to recognize his feelings for her. Whenever she would try to set up Alena on dates at the beginning of this whole ordeal, Angel always found a way to block her attempts. At first, it was because he was “clueless” about Cruz, which Carla had to roll her eyes at. Then he would become so sweet to her, Alena would become confused and decline to go on any dates. She’s fought Angel numerous times because of Alena, but it was hard to rattle Angel since he knew Alena was devoted to Cruz and in turn to him.
“So, Victor huh?” Carla raised her wine glass at her. “Not a bad choice, he’s cute, has a good job and he gets on well with Cruz.” She nodded her head in approval. “I’m glad you’re putting yourself out there.”
“What? I’m not dating Victor. I mean, we’re going to dinner, but as friends.” Alena held her wine glass, looking down at it as she swirled the red liquid inside. “He’s just being nice.”
“He asked you out on a date in the guise of being nice?” Carla cackled, shaking her head. “Alena, just because Angel’s head is far up his ass, it doesn’t mean no other man can find you attractive. If you only knew how many people Angel drove away, you would be impressed.”
“What?”
“Come on Alena, you can’t possibly think that no man on this earth finds you attractive. There are plenty of men who are lining up to date you, but it's hard when your guard dog looks like Angel.” Carla shook her head. “You can’t keep doing this, remember we talked about this. You can just keep this up for so long. You gave your twenties to Angel and Cruz. It’s time for you to put yourself out there.”
“You waited for EZ.”
“Yes, well, EZ isn’t Angel. He’s more in one with his feelings that his older brother.” Carla looked back and found Angel and EZ on the cough with Cruz in between them. They were laughing, Cruz making faces at his father and uncle. She liked their small family, she truly did, but as a best friend and fierce protector of Alena, she couldn’t standby and keep watching this shit show.
If Angel would just realize how much he loves Alena, then sure, Carla could support it, but if Angel was going to keep them at this limbo, he could go fuck himself.
“Are you waiting for Angel?” Carla has asked Alena this question multiple times in the past and her answer truly depended where they were at in their relationship.
Alena wasn’t sure.
Was she?
She was coming to terms that nothing was ever going to happen between her and Angel, that she was going to hand him the divorce paper and give him full custody of Cruz. It was the right thing to do, but she would like to visit Cruz if he would allow her. Carla was right, they couldn’t be in this limbo anymore. Cruz was growing so quickly and the last thing he needed was to continue to be fooled by their charade. She doesn’t doubt Angel cared for her, they knew one another way before Cruz came, but she couldn’t just count on that. She wanted a real marriage, kids of her own. She wanted something stable, but until she divorced Angel, she couldn’t do that. She wasn’t a cheater, she wasn’t her father.
“No, I’m not.” Alena gave her a small smile, trying to keep herself together so she didn’t cry. She didn’t want to cry. “I know I can’t be in this situation forever and it’ll be over soon. Once we pass the five years, we can get divorced. It’s just going to be hard letting go of Cruz.”
“You don’t have to let go of Cruz, I don’t think the little guy would let you.” Carla downed the rest of her wine, placing the glass on the table in between them. “I just want you to experience life Alena.”
“I am,” Alena confidently assured her. “It may not seem like it, but I am. I love our family and I wouldn’t trade it in for the world. I don’t need to date people to experience life. Being with Cruz and Angel taught me plenty, for example, no ice cream for a toddler after nine in the evening unless you want to stay up all night.”
The two women laughed.
Carla could tell Alena was trying to mask everything. Letting go of father and son was going to be difficult for her, but she needed to put herself first. She had to put herself first this time around and Carla was certain that Angel would understand.
No, no he wouldn’t, but this may be the wake-up call Angel needed.
Alena wasn’t going to wait forever and it seemed that someone has finally gotten past Angel’s intimidating figure and it definitely won’t bode well for Angel.
=============
They all sat around the table, with Cruz sitting in between Angel and Alena. EZ and Carla sat across from them. Angel was grilling the meat on the portable grill they had, various side dishes all around. It was like a Korean barbecue experience without the bustling noise of the restaurant. Cruz had his training chopsticks with the cute anime characters that he loved to watch on television so much.
"Tell us more about Victor." Carla looked at EZ with a mischievous glint. He shook his head, holding back a chuckle.
“Yeah, why don’t you?” Angel always had the impression that Victor was an old ass fucking man. To know he was around their age, it changed everything.
Alena looked at Carla like she was insane. She didn’t want to talk about Victor. Angel was obnoxiously protective over her and the last thing she wanted to tell Angel that she actually found Victor attractive. It wasn’t hard, if he would hear how she gushed about him, he would be able to tell.
“He’s a co-worker of mine. He lives a few doors down.” Minimal information was what she was going to do. It made things easier that way. “He took care of Cruz a few times when I got called into work unexpectedly.”
“How long have you known him?” EZ questioned, his brother wasn’t even paying attention to the meat on the grill.
“Seven years.”
“Seven years?!” Angel was surprised. He literally has never heard of Victor till maybe three years ago. Otherwise, Alena has never uttered his name. He just felt like Alena lived another life in San Diego.
Everyone looked at Angel due to his outburst. Cruz looked at his father curiously.
“Are you mad daddy?”
Angel looked down at Cruz and shook his head. “No, I’m not mad, daddy is just surprised cause mommy has never talked about Mr. Vic till a few years ago.”
“Mr. Vic is so nice, he bought mommy crayons the other week when we went to the museums.” Cruz proudly shared. “Mommy said we can share when we all paint together.”
It was a favorite family bonding time they had. Sometimes on a Saturday afternoon Angel, Alena and Cruz all painted together, did they get pieces done? No, but just spending that time together was really fun.
“Crayons huh?” Angel nodded his head, turning his attention back to the meat.
EZ watched as the annoyance on his brother’s face became more obvious. Carla watched on with glee, the possibility of Alena having a suitor obviously annoyed Angel.
“Wow Angel, have you ever gotten Alena any crayons?” EZ had to pull his older brother’s leg every once in a while, he wouldn’t be a younger brother if he didn’t.
“Shut up.” Angel put more meat on the grill.
Who the fuck was this guy? Crayons? Angel scoffed in his head at the silliness. He could get Alena one thousand fucking crayons. How the fuck has he not been told about this guy?
“Do you know Victor?” Angel asked Alena’s partner in crime, Carla.
“I’ve heard of him, never met him till today, but Alena, I told you, you’re the girl he was talking about.” Carla was just sprinkling gasoline on the fire.
“I am not, it still could be anyone.” Alena brushed her off.
“What does she mean?” Angel inquired.
“Victor has been talking to me about this girl he’s interested in, but she’s unavailable.” Alena explained.
“If he knows she’s unavailable, why keep pursuing her?” The nerve of this man. Fucking ridiculous.
“Well, if the relationship isn’t real, then why worry? Doesn’t count as cheating.” Carla reasoned.
“I’m not hungry.” Angel handed the tongs to EZ, standing up and stalking off to the bedroom.
Alena watched as Angel closed her bedroom door, frowning at his sudden outburst.
“Babe, that wasn’t nice.” EZ shook his head at his girlfriend.
“What? Did I say something?” Carla knew how to get under Angel’s skin, she was just giving him an extra push was all.
“Where daddy go?” Cruz shoved meat and rice in his mouth, looking around for Angel.
“Daddy wasn’t hungry, it’s okay baby, daddy will come back out.”
Angel couldn’t fucking believe Carla. How could she encourage this atrocity? They didn’t know this guy and to top it off, he was Valeria’s ex. Even though Valeria was psychotic as fuck, there must have been something wrong with this asshole since he married her.
This just didn’t sit well with Angel. He sat down on the bed before plopping down on his back. He didn’t think Alena lied to him nor was he angry with her, he just wanted to know how this guy fucking bypassed him. It’s not like he was always in San Diego with Alena, but she talked to him every day about her day. There was not a day that they didn’t talk, mostly due to Cruz. But this was fucking insane.
“Calm down Angel, don’t be an idiot. Just stay in the room, cool down.” He was talking to himself now. “Fucking great, I’m talking to my self. This is so stupid.”
The rest of the night went without a hitch. Alena brought Cruz to the room and found Angel smoking at her balcony. He didn’t acknowledge her presence, but she told him Cruz was on the bed. She put pillows on either side of him, just in case since Cruz moved around often when he was sleeping.
She was at the dining table, reviewing a few files she took home when she heard the door open. Looking up, she knew it would be Angel. He didn’t eat anything so she was almost certain he was hungry.
“I’m starving, are there any leftovers?” Alena pointed at the refrigerator.
Angel took out some Tupperware and heated up the food. He combined the rice and meat on the same Tupperware, going over to the dining table. He tapped Alena’s arm, helping her up. He sat on her seat and pulled her onto his lap. Looking at the papers, he moved a few around and watched as Alena took a few notes down.
“You feeling better?” She looked back at him.
He shoved a spoonful of food in his mouth and nodded his head. “Yeah cielo I’m good.” Angel answered once the food was down his throat. “Are you good?”
“I’m fine, I’m just worried about you. Don’t lie to me, what’s wrong?” She placed her pen down, slightly turning so she could see Angel.
“Why haven’t you told me about Victor before?” Angel was being unreasonable, but this guy has been a part of her life for seven years. Though he reasoned he may not be important since she never mentioned him.
“I don’t know, I just,” Alena sighed. “He’s my friend Angel, I didn’t know I had to tell you about my friends.”
“If he’s around our son you do.” Good reason Angel, he applauded himself, using Cruz when in reality, he knew Alena would never bring anyone around Cruz that would harm him.
“Angel, you’ve never cared about Victor before, I’ve mentioned him to you numerous times, and you never reacted, why care now?”
“Well he’s never asked you out before, has he?” Angel fucking hated hearing Victor ask her out, especially when he knew you were married.
Angel couldn’t get over that.
“No, come on Angel, it’s just a friendly dinner. I would never disrespect our marriage like that no matter how fake it is.” Alena turned back to her work. She hated talking to Angel about their marriage because it was a constant reminder that she had what she wanted but not exactly.
“Our marriage isn’t fake Alena.”
“I really don’t want to talk about it Angel.” Alena closed her eyes, trying to build her courage for her own sake. She turned to face him and he was shoving another spoonful in his mouth. “I know it’s not much to ask and you do it out of needs and such, but I would appreciate it if you didn’t kiss me unless Cruz is around or we have sex at all.”
Angel almost choked on his food. Did she just say what he thought she just said?
“What?”
Alena didn’t reply and just continued to do her work.
“Hey, you can’t just ignore me after you say that.” Angel pulled her back against him, his warm breath against her neck. “You don’t like kissing me cielo?” He whispered against her ear.
Alena tried to sit up but Angel kept her on his lap. “Angel, please.”
“You found another motherfucker and now you don’t want me to touch you?” Angel was upset again. This guy expressed interest in her, Valeria’s ex-husband, and he didn’t matter now? Fuck that. “You’re my wife Alena, nothing is going to change that. You know you love it when I touch you.” His hand ran up and down her inner thigh.
“Angel, we’re not actually married.” Alena shivered feeling Angel’s hand inch closer to the bottom of her shorts.
“Are we not? We got married in city hall, baby. You’re a Reyes.” Angel was a bastard, he knew that. But he couldn’t let this motherfucker disrespect him like that. “We got your driver’s license changed and everything. You’re Alena Marie Reyes, and it’s going to stay that way. What about Cruz?”
Angel’s fingers made its way under her shorts, Alena placing her hand on his hand before he could go any further. “You’re overreacting. Victor is just my friend.”
“Better stay that way baby, you don’t want me to get involved.” Angel turned Alena’s face towards him and he gave her a quick kiss, pulling away and biting his lips. “You know you love kissing me.”
Alena couldn’t even speak. She just blushed and nodded her head. Angel smirked and continued eating.
He couldn’t ignore the nervousness in his stomach when Victor asked her out and how she entertained that idea. Then when she asked him that they shouldn’t be intimate anymore? That shit made his stomach drop. No matter how confident he appeared he was always frightened that Alena may meet someone.
He’s always been number one with Alena. He was always second best to EZ, but for her, he was always number one. He could hardly do wrong with her. This man was threatening that position and he couldn’t have that.
He couldn’t let Alena go.

Music of My Heart (Ruki)
Tumblr media
Wearing a black fluffy robe, (Y/n) sat on the brown sofa tapping on her white Huawei Mate 10 encased in a pink and blue marble rubber case, typing out a caption for a photo taken just moments ago. It was a picture taken by one of the roadies, where she faced the camera with the rest of the thousands of audience members. Everyone posed for the picture, each of them with a smile and a hand signs like a peace or rock on sign.
After doing a little adjustment on the filters, she logged in to Instagram and typed:
“It’s a wrap! Thank you for an unforgettable evening, Osaka! It was a wonderful way to end the Asia Tour. Tonight, I could feel your that resonated in the whole building. Listening to you sing along made my heart melt because I didn’t expect my music to reach you. I hope to visit you guys more in the future. Until we meet again! ❤️”
She typed the Japanese translation of the text below before uploading the photo on her social media accounts. As her phone kept buzzing from the notifications that informed her of the number of likes and comments the photo got, she went off to change into a new set of clothing before beginning to pack up with the others.
It was the last day of her Asia tour, where (Y/n) performed for millions of spectators. She did the final show in Kyocera Dome Osaka that evening, where she performed in front of at least 50,000 people. No words could describe how she felt; how she started from a young naïve girl who just stood and sang for her small audience, to an international star who wrote and perform her own songs in front of a larger one.
Finally came to the time when she had bid her team goodbye. After shaking hands and hugging each of them, thanking them for their hard work for making the tour a huge success, she boarded the black Honda Accord Sedan with her manager before it drove off to her hotel.
With her manager talking on the phone on her future activities, (Y/n) was scrolling through the comment section, liking the positive ones and ignoring the opposite, until one written in Japanese caught her attention.
ruki_nilduenilun Meanwhile, I’m stuck on the other side of the world and can’t go home to you and our furry babies. 😢
A loving smile stretched across (Y/n)’s face as she typed,
(username) @ruki_nilduenilun Be patient, my darling. Maybe we can celebrate our successes with a nice day out when you come home. 😊
While puffing on his e-cigarette, Ruki smiled at the comment and typed,
ruki_nilduenilun @(username) That sounds nice. Wait for me, then. 😉
Dating another artist can be a challenge, especially when both of them were equally famous and had busy schedules to accommodate their fame. But Ruki expected this the moment he asked to be (Y/n)’s partner, and look at where they are now – four years and still going strong.
He closed the Instagram app and stared at his home screen wallpaper, which was a selfie he took with her on their fourth anniversary in Akita, where they went “onsen hopping” on a beautiful Autumn when the Japanese maple leaves blended with the green landscape with their reds, yellows and oranges. It was after a nice bath they took in the outdoor onsen, and on the way back to their room, Ruki suggested to take a selfie with the beautiful scenery in the background. Right before his thumb contacted the shutter, (Y/n) decided to turn her head and peck him on the cheek, creating a nice shade of red that spread across his cheeks. It was a lovely day to celebrate their love for each other.
If one were to ask how the power couple met, they wouldn’t be hearing the typical “love at first sight” story. They met when Ruki was in search of a female singer who could do the background vocals for the band’s single “Undying”. But it wasn’t easy. One recording after another, he still wasn’t satisfied with the results and kept scouting despite the deadline. But when he heard (Y/n)’s new song “Song title”, he was enamoured by her voice. Besides the wide range of octaves and an amazing head voice, her voice was reminded him of melted rich chocolate; a sensual and beautiful tone that gave him goosebumps right when she sang the first word. He loved that voice so much that he needed it in this song. So he immediately told his manager to contact hers and send out the invitation. From there, after working with her on one song and another, every else became history.
Of course, the whole world got a huge surprise when they found out about their relationship; and do take note there was a considerably large age gap between the couple. It all started when the paparazzi caught them walking out of Gion Roiro, a high-end restaurant in the heart of Kyoto. They weren’t holding hands, and instead walked side by side each wearing a coat to protect themselves from the cool night breeze of Spring and a white face mask. Speculations were all over the internet which resulted in two sides of the argument – one side said they were dating while another said they weren’t and were merely friends (based on the number of selfies they uploaded after each recording session). Unfortunately for many fans, their hearts were broken when the band vocalist spilt the beans on their second anniversary. It was a bumpy ride for the two as they had to fight off the negative comments that flooded each other’s social media; but eventually, their relationship grew stronger with each passing time, and the comments gradually died down, albeit a few naughty ones that managed to pop out.
“We’re here,” announced the driver.
(Y/n) snapped out of her thoughts and looked up to see that they’d arrived at the Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel. She and her manager unloaded their things before thanking the driver and entering the building. They took the elevator up to the floor where their rooms were, and each of them went to their respective rooms. By the time the door locked behind her, (Y/n) immediately hit for a warm shower, brushed her teeth, blew dry her hair, did her daily skincare routine, and finally went to bed wearing her pyjamas. Lights were dimly lit, giving the room a relaxed ambience.
Suddenly, the famous intro of Luna Sea’s “Gravity” went off in the quiet room. (Y/n) forced herself to get up and attend the call, which came from her lover. A smile flickered across her face instantly, and she picked up the call.
“Miss me?” she teased.
“Obviously,” he replied with equal playfulness. “How was the tour?”
“It was amazing!” (Y/n) walked back to her bed and sat down. “I get to learn new cultures in different countries, and even picked up bits of different languages. I ate so much that I think I’ve added an extra kilo or two!”
Ruki chuckled before saying, “I bet you did. No wonder you looked rounder in your recent pictures.”
“Hey!” she playfully whined, pouting for a short while before joining him. “Anyway, how was yours?”
After taking a puff on his e-cigarette – apparently, as she heard him release some smoke on the other line – he said, “Pretty fun, too. I’ll tell you all the stories when I get back. I need to save the best for last, you know.”
“Of course,” she responded. Afterwards, it went silent. Although she wasn’t physically there, (Y/n) could tell that he had something on his mind, and he was having second thoughts if he should say it to her. She knew better than to pry, but somewhere deep inside her heart, it might be important. So she decided to bite the bullet by blurting, “Ruki*, do you have something on your mind?”
The said man kept quiet for a while before a small smile was etched on his face. She knows me too well, he thought. “I was actually thinking about our relationship,” he confessed. “Honestly, I’ve never felt so comfortable in my life, nor did I ever think I would fall in love again. Even though we’ve been together for more than four years, I find myself falling for you all over again. Heck, I don’t know how you do it! But I’m not complaining, because every moment is a new experience for me, and I like how it made me feel young. I know I seldom profess my love for you, but I just hope that you know that I do. I really do.”
(Y/n) could feel tears welling up in her eyes, for she felt so much of genuineness from him. She knew that he wasn’t one to openly profess his love through the common phrase, “I love you.” She didn’t mind, because the things that he did showed her that he truly loved her, like taking care of her when she was sick, giving her advice and comfort she needed, or even attempt to cook something for her; it was these little things that she cherished and appreciated, and there was nothing more she could ever ask for.
“I do,” she finally responded with so much of tenderness. “And I feel the same way, my darling. Even as the wheel of time continues to turn, I will still love every part of you as we age together, until the very end.”
Ruki was about to take another puff of his e-cigarette but he paused, allowing her words to resonate inside his head. Never in his life had he ever thought such words would warm his heart. It sounded comforting, and to him, it felt like home. During the time when he was Ruki the vocalist of the GazettE, he strived to be better than how he was previously; so by the time he went to her, he could feel like he’d his best and would want to share his passion with her, to which she willingly listened. Whether it was an exciting or dull experience, or even a petty argument he had with his bandmates, she would listen and be there when he needed comfort.
“I think it’s getting late over there,” he suddenly said when he took note of the time, even though he was in Los Angeles. “I don’t wanna hog your beauty sleep any longer. Not that I’m saying you’re not beautiful, that is.”
(Y/n) laughed at the last bit. “Of course,” she said. “And I wouldn’t want to hog up your time for rehearsal.”
Smiling, he said, “Have a good night’s sleep, (Y/n).”
“And have a great day ahead,” was her response before hanging up to call it a day.
It was already 2.15 a.m., but (Y/n) found it hard to sleep, as she laid still on her bed staring at the ceiling in the dark. With so many things going through her head, there was no way she could get her beauty sleep, to quote Ruki. And these thoughts weren’t about work or so; it was about her relationship with Ruki, as well as the things he said to her just a few hours ago. She had to get these thoughts off her mind, and so, she decided to sit up. Switching on the lights, she went over to her bag and dug out a dusty rose velvet notebook and a Pilot G2 Black Gel Pen. She went over to the round table and sat on the white leather office chair, switching on the desk lamp. She opened the notebook, flipping through her handwritten lyrics, until she reached a blank page where she clicked her pen and began writing, starting with “Music of My Heart” as the title.
*I would’ve used his real name here, but I’m still not too sure if “Takanori” is the one. So just to be safe, I still used his stage name.

The literary sources of BTS’ “Singularity” (Part II)
Chapter II: Oedipus Rex, the blind who had eyes
* This is a personal and purely philological analysis, that is, centred on the study of literature and/or the language as used in literature.
* This post was originally written in Spanish and translated into English, sorry if there are any errors.
* You can check part I --Narcissus and the problem of self-identity--, here.
* Also, you can check my in-depth analysis of Singularity lyrics here.
Tumblr media
As we established in the first part of the analysis, one of the main literary sources of "Singularity" is the classic myth of Narcissus, established in Western culture through the Metamorphosis by Ovid. Remember that Narcissus, the son of a nymph and a god, ends up so enamoured with his reflection that he ends up falling into the water where his beautiful face appears, dying because of his own vanity. We affirmed that in one of the versions of the myth, the mother of Narcissus, the nymph Liriope, decides to visit Tiresias (in ancient Greek, Τειρεσίας), one of the most famous soothsayers of Greek mythology. This character, present as a prophet in all Greek tragedies related to the founding of the city of Thebes --one of the most important social nuclei of ancient Greece-- is not only considered the mediator between gods and humans but between men and women --by its androgynous nature. and between life and death.
Tumblr media
[Tiresias appears in front of Odysseus during the sacrifice, Heinrich Füssli (1780-85)]
One of the main tragedies, and the one that will centre this second part, is Oedipus Rex (Oι̉δίπoυς τύραννoς), a Greek tragedy written by Sophocles in an unknown date (it is believed that it was composed around 430 BC). Broadly speaking, the work begins during the mandate of Oedipus, king of Thebes and husband of Jocasta. His glorious reign is dying by an aggressive epidemic of plague and he orders his brother-in-law Creon to depart for the Oracle of Delphi (a sacred temple dedicated to Apollo, built in the Villa of Delphi, Greece).
Tumblr media
The prediction is clear: the plague is a divine punishment because the death of Laius, the previous king, has not been avenged and it will not disappear until the guilty party is killed or sent into exile. After this, Oedipus collaborates arduously to discover the culprit -- to who promises to save his life and only punish him/her with exile--, relying on his citizens and the close members of his family. It is precisely Creon who introduces the character of Tiresias since he advises the monarch to come to him to solve the problem.
OEDIPUS: Teiresias, you who understand all things—what can be taught and what cannot be spoken of, what goes on in heaven and here on the earth—you know, although you cannot see, how sick our state is. And so we find in you alone, great seer,  our shield and saviour.
We must bear in mind that Tiresias, who appears in this work as a character already known from other mythological cycles --Greek tragedies were represented in the amphitheatres and used to use dynasties of characters that all the public knew-- is a blind fortune-teller. When he arrives in Thebes, he refuses to declare what he knows, even though he was present at the time of Laius' murder, and he and Oedipus confront each other in a heated conversation. Irritated, Tiresias declares that Oedipus is the murderer that Oedipus himself is searching for and insinuates him that he lives in incest with his mother, with whom he has had children, he is not the Theban as he believes and that, shortly, he will be blind like him. Faced with such accusations, Oedipus does not believe him and thinks that the fortune-teller has conspired with Creon to snatch his throne.
TEIRESIAS: I say that with your dearest family, unknown to you, you are living in disgrace.  You have no idea how bad things are.
OEDIPUS: Do you really think you can just speak out, say things like this, and still remain unpunished?
TEIRESIAS: Yes, I can, if the truth has any strength.
OEDIPUS: It does, but not for you. Truth is not in you— for your ears, your mind, your eyes are blind!
TEIRESIAS: You are a wretched fool to use harsh words which all men soon enough will use to curse you.
TEIRESIAS: You may be king, but I have the right to answer you—and I control that right, for I am not your slave. I serve Apollo, and thus will never stand with Creon, signed up as his man. So I say this to you, since you have chosen to insult my blindness— you have your eyesight, and you do not see.
Tumblr media
Since the tragedy is extensive, I will try to explain the argument briefly. Finally, Oedipus, who was actually the heir of the kings of Corinth, left his city because of an oracle that proclaimed that he would kill his father and marry his mother. He wanted to avoid the tragedy of his destiny and fled. During the way, he's entangled in a brawl in which he assassinates several people ..., one of them turns out to be Laius. With the intervention of several witnesses, it is known that Oedipus was not the biological son of the kings of Corinth since he had been abandoned on a mountain shortly after being born and saved by a messenger from the kingdom of Corinth. Little by little, Jocasta, his wife, realizes the truth: Oedipus is the son that she and Laius abandoned to their fate so that a fateful oracle would not be fulfilled, unaware that the messenger had managed to save him. Oedipus, oblivious to his true identity, had become a brave citizen of Thebes and, after overcoming the enigma of the Sphinx, took the throne. Married to his mother and having killed his real father, Oedipus stabs his eyes, not wanting to see the tragedy of his existence, and asks for an exile with his two daughters, which marks the end of the story.
OEDIPUS: But the hand which stabbed out my eyes was mine alone. In my wretched life, why should I have eyes  when nothing I could see would bring me joy?
Tumblr media
[Oedipus Rex, film adaptation by Pier Paolo Passolini (1967)]
In summary, we can see that Tiresias is the only one, by being ironically blind, who can see the truth in a world full of people who have eyes but cannot see. He's the famous prophet whose true revelation is not accepted when he twice proclaims it. The originality of Sophocles lies in this irony (especially taking into account that Tiresias appears at the beginning of the tragedy), in the belief that the knowledge of the human being is not a simple objective fact that is imposed on us, but a subjective possession before the one we can react belligerently, as a possession that partly needs to be possessed by the one who receives it to become effective. That is why Oedipus rebels against the truth, because he believes more in him than in the gods.
Tumblr media
A fatal love, the intervention of a vengeful divinity or the problematization of sight are common themes between the myth of Narcissus, Oedipus Rex and Singularity. If we stop a bit in the lyrics, we can extract some examples:
A sound of something breaking I awake from sleep
We have the fracture, the rupture of the individual once he realizes he's wearing a mask, he's blind.
Tumblr media
I dumped myself into the lake I buried my voice for you Over the winter lake I was thrown
The lake, an obvious reference to Narcissus and his death. On the other hand, the second verse talks about a certain culprit (that’s why he says 'for you’ or uses passive verbs that exempt him from responsibility: 'I was thrown’), like if he was even talking to a god, maybe to a woman (that's the simplest interpretation). However, he's talking to himself. He's the culprit of his blindness like Oedipus is.
Tumblr media
In addition, another interesting aspect is the last speech of the tragedy. This is said by the chorus, a collective character who comments and judges what happens in the tragedy and represents the Theban citizen, the public. I could not help thinking about the dancers of the video.
Tumblr media
CHORUS: You residents of Thebes, our native land,  look on this man, this Oedipus, the one  who understood that celebrated riddle.  He was the most powerful of men.  All citizens who witnessed this man’s wealth  were envious. Now what a surging tide  of terrible disaster sweeps around him.  So while we wait to see that final day,   we cannot call a mortal being happy   before he’s passed beyond life free from pain.
Also, BTS tends to distort the figure of the idol, that is, the famous singer who is seen as a deity and not as a human being. Oedipus, like Taehyung, is seen by the public as a king, as a divine emissary, but eventually ends up being as mundane as the spectators. He suffers, he has doubts and, sometimes, he doesn't love himself either.
Tumblr media
Lastly (I KNOW THAT I AM WRITING A LOT), among the main themes of this fabulous work of universal literature, we must talk about the problem of the search for truth and the risks and harms involved in achieving knowledge. Nietzsche speaks of this drama in the 9th chapter of the Birth of Tragedy (1871-1872). The main thesis of this book states that art is based on two fundamental notions that the Greeks of the archaic era and the classical era, ie, the Greeks prior to Socrates, knew: the two fundamental impulses of nature that are symbolized by two Greek gods, Dionysus and Apollo.
Apollo and Dionysus symbolize two physiological states of the human being: sleepiness and drunkenness; as well as two vital impulses: the individuation (JUNG'S INDIVIDUATION PROCESS!!!!!) and the overflow. Broadly speaking, Nietzsche makes use of the deities to highlight the human condition in its strictest sense and, in turn, unveil the struggle or opposition of forces that hide in the bosom of nature. Apollo symbolizes the veil (the beautiful forms/artistic creations that adorn life and justify it) and Dionysus symbolizes suffering, death, truth..., the tragic wisdom, that is, the terrible awareness of the finitude of Men and his suffering existence. Nietzsche states that the hypertrophy of some of the elements could be harmful to man, an excess of veil could lead to optimism and rationalism, and an excess of truth could lead to suicide or asceticism. Both elements are necessary so that life can be kept in balance.
To end, Nietzsche presents Oedipus as a transgressor, a hero condemned to fall for having tried to go too far. By transgressing nature and social norms, and wanting to find out what is forbidden, Oedipus discovers a world whose vision is forbidden to the rest of mortals. He commits a masculine, heroic version of original sin by choosing to eat from the tree of knowledge that condemns humanity to abandon innocence. In this case, it is his curiosity and his integrity that encourages him to investigate. That abandonment of innocence, of comfortable ignorance, is the cruel and heroic destiny of Oedipus, and his deed consists in his sacrifice (LIKE IT HAPPENS IN 'DEMIAN'!!!). Searching in ourselves, inquiring into our motives and wounds, has a price, it leads to a rupture of the individual necessary for the rebirth of the being.
Thus the man who is responsive to artistic stimuli reacts to the reality of dreams as does the philosopher to the reality of existence; he observes closely, and he enjoys his observation: for it is out of these images that he interprets life, out of these processes that he trains himself for life. It is not only pleasant and agreeable images that he experiences with such universal understanding: the serious, the gloomy, the sad and the profound, the sudden restraints, the mockeries of chance, fearful expectations, in short the whole 'divine comedy' of life, the Inferno included, passes before him, not only as a shadow-play — for he too lives and suffers through these scenes — and yet also not without that fleeting sense of illusion; and perhaps many, like myself, can remember calling out to themselves in encouragement, amid the perils and terrors of the dream, and with success: 'It is a dream! I want to dream on!' Just as I have often been told of people who have been able to continue one and the same dream over three and more successive nights: facts which clearly show that our innermost being, our common foundation, experiences dreams with profound pleasure and joyful necessity (Nietzsche, The Birth of the Tragedy).
I hope you liked this and found it interesting and easy to read. I’m working in the next chapters, which will talk, among many things, about these works/characters/topics:
Frankenstein (Mary Shelley, 1818): A man can create his own monster
Wuthering Heights (Emily Brönte, 1847): Narcissus and Heathcliff
Jane Eyre (Charlotte Brönte, 1847): Understanding the Double - Jane Eyre and Bertha Mason
Alice Through the Looking-Glass (Lewis Carroll, 1871): The mirror symbolism
Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Robert Louis Stevenson, 1886): Evil in a reflected identity
The Picture of Dorian Gray (Oscar Wilde, 1890): Self-image and ego
Dracula (Bram Stocker, 1897): Innate evil without a reflection
Peter Pan (James Matthew Barrie, 1904): Seeking for a reflection in the absence of shadows
Ophelia (from Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, 1603): Madness, water and suicide
From the myth to contemporaneity: how to codify identity and body in the information age

After The Storm Chpt 7
Tumblr media
Min Ji Ho had never felt special in her life. She was a second daughter and compared to her older sister automatically second best. No, in her eyes third best, their dog was a champion purebred poodle named Xiang; he was definitely before her in the hierarchy of perceived children in the home. Her older sister, Dahyun was perfect in every way imaginable. Naturally beautiful, highly intelligent and poised. She’d won everything from beauty pageants, and spelling bees to national science project awards; she was the crown jewel of the Min children. Min Ji Ho was just as talented and smart as her sister, just not as attractive in the eyes of parents. When visitors would come to the house all of the accomplishments of Dahyun and Xiang were on full display, Ji Ho was barely an after thought. When visitors would ask about her, her parents would gladly speak of the current great thing she was recognized for in school, but when asked to see her, it was always an excuse ‘oh, she’s out studying.’ ‘she is currently not home, at cram school.’ ‘she doesn’t feel well today, we wouldn’t want our guests to get sick’ here parents were ashamed of how she looked. There wasn’t anything physically wrong with her face, she simply wasn’t as beautiful as Dahyun. When she was fifteen and sixteen her mother fought hard to get her plastic surgery to change her appearance. Doctors had declined stating that because of her age they refused because she was still growing and changing and anything that they would do could potentially be undone naturally, they advised her mother that the earliest they could do any work would be eighteen. At seventeen and Dahyun being twenty-two their father passed away; the business he owned was given to Dayhun, but the warehouse spaces were left to Ji Ho. Dahyun was engaged to a doctor and currently living in Busan; she gladly took over the business and moved it, leaving an angry Ji Ho with empty dirty warehouses. After the sale of a few of the warehouses, Ji Ho immediately moved out on her own to attend college, removing herself from her mother’s displeasure. No longer did she need to be reminded that she wasn’t as good as Dahyun, she was free to be on her own. She decided that she wouldn’t get the plastic surgery, that she would use the face that she had to get what the wanted out of life one way or the other. She started watching make up tutorials, master make-up artist for celebrities, studying the techniques used by prosthetics companies, and movie special effects company. She honed her craft like a finely sharped knife, in a few short years she could make herself look like anyone. Creating good looks wasn’t the only skill she possessed, Ji Ho was also a master manipulator. She was always charming, she was taught to be so by her mother before her looks began to change and her attention was full diverted away from her. Ji Ho could sell ice to a polar bear in the middle of the artic circle. She learned early on both men and women responded well to a pretty face, a sweet voice, and a teasing of skin. She’s acquired a string of suitors with enough money to entertain her wants and needs, each one seeing a different face. When she was seventeen, she and one of the few friends she did have attended her first ever concert. It was BTS kicking off their first wave of the Love Yourself Tour; she and Jeongyeon managed to get front seats right in front of stage. It was during the performance of ‘Best of Me’ when Kim Seokjin made eye contact with her exclusively, squatting down to sing before popping back up, winking at her and blowing a kiss. Min Ji Ho was spellbound. She had never seen a more beautiful man in her entire life and he had just winked and blown a kiss at her. With her face and looks, he blew a kiss at Her! That night at home, Min Ji Ho spent hours upon hours researching and learning absolutely everything that she could about BTS and Kim Seokjin; she missed an entire week of school in her pursuit to immerse herself in the world of Bangtan. She vowed that when she was ready, when she was perfect enough and pure enough for him, she would make herself up and go see her Oppa; declare her love for him and he would accept her; because she was smart beautiful and charming. Three years later while working as nurse, she assisted a doctor on his rounds in the prison ward of the mental hospital. She was trying out a new face when a prisoner looked at her, calling her a name she didn’t know and confessed all of his love for her, apologising for hurting her and that he still in fact loved her. She smiled politely at him, comforting him, telling him that everything would be okay. Later that afternoon while the doctor was out, she snuck in to his office to review the file of the man. He was currently fifty-three years old and was a convicted murderer via letter bombing; Min Ji Ho smiled a shy smile to herself and thought that maybe this man could be useful to her in the future. Ji Ho made the decision that every time she would work the hospital she would ensure she was using this face, so that she could further garner the inmate’s affection. She was irate when on her last visit she discovered that he had been discharged. It took months for her to gain access to the prison ward’s record room in order find where he was released too; months track down the group home he listed in the seedier side of Seoul. Ji Ho flew in to a full rage temper tantrum when she discovered the building had been shut down and the residents scattered. Two months later she sat outside a café, studying a new face, when a homeless man wandered over to her. Taken aback she recoiled and grabbed her things until he spoke that name, she recognized him immediately. She wasn’t using the face but some how he recognized her. She cooed at him, offering him food and patted his hand. Fate had smiled on her, because she always got her way one way or another. This situation would be no different, she would have Kim Seokjin come hell or high water. Ji Ho was devastated when she found the news Kim Seokjin had a girlfriend; she knew there was a chance that he would have gotten distracted by another woman while she was finishing the task of perfecting for herself for him. By perfecting herself, she meant being versed in all things Kim Seokjin. She had traveled to his home town, retracing the steps of his childhood, went to his favorite local restaurants, learned to cook all of his favorites from there from the actual chefs and cooks in the kitchen. Tracked down childhood acquaintances and paid out ridiculous amounts of money to find out every scrap of information she could about him. She even managed to find out the location of Kim Seokjin’s family home and take a picture just outside the gate. When she discovered what Kim Seokjin was dating she was horrified and disgusted, that person, wasn’t even Korean! The skin wasn’t fair or light in anyway, Ji Ho simply couldn’t fathom how he could look at it and see ‘beauty’. Her entire life she had been taught that beauty was the fairest of skin, with wide natural Korean eyes, to be small and demure. This person, if she could even see it as one, wasn’t anything like that at all. She had skin like chocolate or a dark pecan shell, she had large breasts, wide hips and a supple ass. She was no where near the Korean standard of beauty and Ji Ho just couldn’t understand how her Perfect Prince could be so enamoured. Ji Ho decided that she would allow Kim Seokjin to have a fling while she finished all her preparations, it won’t last she told herself. Well now things are different, that thing was determined to steal her Kim Seokjin and mock her as well and to add further insult to injury with that gorgeous ring Kim Seokjin used for the engagement. It should have been hers! Min Ji Ho always got what she wanted one way or another and this time would be no different.
You heard the commotion in the hallway, after the phone call. Jin was next door visiting the guys; Song called and wanted to know if you or Jin were expecting a delivery, you weren’t and advised him as so. You heard distinct shouting and froze; had someone managed to breach security and get to your floor, you tried to extend the focus of the camera in the hallway, you could see a figure prone on the floor, then you saw Jin race past the front door and down the hall. Common sense being damned you whipped open the front door to follow after him. Looking over his shoulder Jin yelled for you to go back inside, you tried to protest but he yelled again insisting you return. Going back inside, you paced the hallway in front of the door, desperate to know what was going on outside. A short five minutes later, Jin open the front door, and carried in a large box. “Jin what the fuck just happened?” you were full of panic and seeing Jin walk in with a smile wasn’t answering any questions. “Just a simple misunderstanding, follow me sweetheart.” “Jin what the hell?!” “Babe just follow me, please.” Jin said with a chuckle. Following Jin to the couch he sat down opposite from you. “Okay, small misunderstanding outside; you weren’t expecting a delivery, but I was, I didn’t tell you because it was a surprise. Knowing what we know about the two assailants security is on a high alert so when you said no, they went into action. Seo called me as the package was addressed to me.” “Oh no, that poor delivery person, they didn’t hurt them, did they?” You asked suddenly concerned for the startled deliverer. “They are fine, a little taken aback but no harm done.” You breathed a sigh of relief. “Now, remember I told you last night that I planned on matching this weekend?” “Ugh don’t remind me, I’ve been waiting on you practically all morning to finish up your meeting with the guys, so we can go shopping.” Jin smiled, it slowly slid across his face, you recognized it as his all-knowing smile and immediately knew something was up. “Kim Seokjin, what have you been up to?” “When I decided that I wanted to match you on the red-carpet, I thought that maybe I should be proactive in arranging our clothing. I was leaving set one day and I saw something that caught my eye, immediately I thought, you would look nothing less than gorgeous in this gown. The very next morning, I called and had a dress ordered for you and had them sign a contract that you would be the only one at the premiere in this dress, just in case some one else fell in love with it; and I had a tux made for me to match. I hope you like it.” Jin carefully cut open the box and pulled out a large garment bag. You immediately gasped at the deep purple color before even seeing the dress in full; The bodice was a silk low cut sweetheart neckline adorned with Swarovski Crystal, the richness of the purple made the jewels twinkle like stars in the night sky, the skirt of the dress was long deeply pleated layers of tulle. Jin carefully removed the dress from the garment bag, standing up on the ottoman holding it up so you could see it in all its beautiful full glory. “Oh my God, Jinni, its breathtaking.” You sat at the very edge of the couch, holding your breathe too afraid to move to touch it, you found it so beautiful. “Do you really like it Sweetheart?” Jin asked nervously but with a big smile playing on his lips. “Kim Seokjin if I wasn’t already marrying you, this dress would have sealed your deal! Baby it’s magnificent, oh my gosh!” Finding your legs, you stood up and moaned as your fingers caressed the gently silk of the bodice and the tulle of the skirt. Jin’s smile beamed down on you like the sun itself. “Get down here so I can kiss you properly.” You said, helping Jin carefully step down from the ottoman, and placing the dress back in the garment bag. You draped your arms over his shoulders and kissed him deeply, rolling your tongue with his. “Thank you for being so amazing and so good to me Jinni. You truly are the best did you know that?” “Only because I have you by my side.” Jin said still smiling brightly at you. “Do you know why I choose this dress for you, why you came to mind?” Jin asked. You shook your head no still staring up at his beautiful face. “You told me once, that purple is the color of royalty, and you my dear, are nothing if not my queen.” Jin gently took your right hand, lifting it to his lips and kissed the back of your hand. You swooned. You literally got weak in the knees and melted into the arms of your man, who currently was supporting your whole body weight laughing fully at you. “Why, why are you this way, oh my God Jin!” You squealed, you squealed like a giddy pre-teen girl. “Just when I think that I’m absolutely in love with you to the fullest and it is simply impossible for me to be moony-eyed over you any more than I already am, you say the most amazing thing and literally make me go weak in the knees! I’m so damn lucky I get to love you, I get to spend my life with you. I’m so excited that I get to have a future with a man who makes me laugh, who plays game and not afraid to be silly, and who has the most amazing heart imaginable. I’m so lucky to have you!” You couldn’t help but gush at your fiancé. Jin leaned down and kissed your lips softly a few times, his fingertips gently trailing down your face. “If this is the type of treatment just for buying you a dress, I can’t wait to see what I get when I show you my wedding ideas.” Jin waggled his eyes brows at you and you couldn’t help but giggle. “Now handsome, show me your tux?” Jin stepped away from you, removing the second garment bag from the box, and opening it up to reveal a double-breasted tuxedo jacket in the same shade of purple as your dress. The houndstooth pattern of the jacket not only added texture to the jacket but added a variance of color. The rich black of his shirt were spotted with droplets of silver matching the top of your dress, there was also a bow tie in that same rich deep purple color. You sighed contentedly as you slid your fingertips over the fabric. “Oh my Mr. Kim you’re going to look absolutely stunning in this.” You said. “I cannot wait for Friday to get here.” “Me neither, I can’t wait to show my queen off on the red carpet, this will be our first major public appearance since getting engaged. I can’t wait to gush over you on camera.” “You are such a ham!” You laughed and playfully hit his chest. Jin pulled you closer and kissed your forehead. “Babe, I know that we’re excited for Friday, but I need you to… just promise me you’ll stay by side, you’ll stay with Seo and Song and at will no point will you be alone. Not even to the bathroom, we’ve got Ahn Hyo Jin coming with us just to make sure of that.” Jin stared down at you, face not as full as mirth as it was just a short few seconds ago, eyes searching your for understanding and acceptance; again, you felt your heart tighten at his distress. “I know baby, I promise no rogue heroics from me this weekend I’m going to be glued to you and security the whole entire time I promise.” You tiptoed and kissed the tip of his nose and smiled at him, trying to ease all his fears while hiding your own. “I love you.” Jin’s voice was filled with worried wavered slightly, his handsome features creased in concern. “It’s going to be okay Jinni. This weekend is going to go smoothly. I’m going to be optimistic and say that nothing’s going to happen. But, and this is a very tiny tiny super tiny but, if something does happening the place is going to be covered in police. If they show up they are getting dealt with immediately, we will look crazy psycho bitch and mad bomber in the face and tell both those sorry fucks that 1) they can kiss the dingiest darkest spots on our asses and 2) they did not succeeded in splitting us up and 3) as part of their prison sentences our wedding will be livestreamed in to their cells so they can see just how much they did not win.” Jin gave that full laughed and you felt your heart smile. “You would be crazy enough to get that added to their prison sentence.” “You damn right I am. Now I’m hungry, will you make me lunch handsome?” Kissing the back of your hand and bowing deeply, Jin replied. “You wish is my command my queen.”

Min Ji Ho had a plan. It had taken time, pacing back and forth in the dirty surroundings of the warehouse but it had come swiftly and easily like the pace of the Han River. She would be on the red carpet on Friday night, right in the face of her love Kim Seokjin. It would be difficult, with most of her make-up supplies being left behind when she fled her house, she would have purchase new ones without drawing attention to herself. Using the few supplies that she had in her purse she made up her face, donned a mask and ventured out to the store. Passing the electronic shop and open-air cafes she could hear and see her face along with Jeong’s plastered all over advising that they should be considered armed, extremely dangerous, not to be approached and to notified police immediately if spotted. Ji Ho gritted her teeth and stomped down the street, she could see Lotte in the distance, she just had to get in, get out and not get noticed. She’d had enough make-up to dramatically change up her eyes but with out having any make-up putty to redesign her t-zone and eye shape it was a risk. That was only apart of the problem, it was also the quantity of make-up as well; she needed enough not only for herself but to transform Jeong as well; and then there was the matter of clothing. Ji Ho suppressed a scream as she walked inside the Lotte and headed toward the make-up section. She had to be conservative in what she bought as to not look suspicious; she picked up what she dubbed as the essentials, a palette for eyes, two packs of putty, brushes and styling tools, eye liner, mascara, and false lashes.  She prayed she had enough cash on her to cover the expenses, she couldn’t use her bank account because she knew the police were monitoring it for activity to track her. Ji Ho stood in line trying to act as naturally as possible, her totally came out of 334047.00 won ($300.00) she was short the amount needed she had only 250000.00. She stood nervously in line and did what did best, spotting and older gentlemen in line she pretended to become overly emotional and cry. The older gentlemen approached her. “There there, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” “Ahjussi , I haven’t seen my father in such a long time and I’ve spent all my money on food and one of my bags got lost at the airport and it had all my make up and I’m just short a few won and I just want to look good for him.” She pretended to sob even harder, being careful not to actually cry and ruin her current make-up job. “It’s okay, it’s to see your apa? Here I’ll help.” The older gentlemen paid the remaining balance and even gave her a few won just to make sure she enough to take the train back to hotel room. Ji Ho smirked to herself as she walked down the block back towards the warehouse. This was enough to get started but for the rest of the plan to fully come together she needed to leave the warehouse. She needed to find a new home and she knew exactly who’s home she was going to have. Jeong had done a crude job of painting the van but it was enough for now, packing the few things they had brought with them Min Ji Ho and Jeong Hyun Soo got in the van, Ji Ho doling out direction as the crept through the streets of Seoul to an old neighborhood on the outskirts of the city. They parked the van several blocks away from their actual destination, stealing a license plate from another vehicle and swapping it out and walking to a home in the middle of the night. Walking up to the gate, Ji Ho entered a code she hope had not changed over the years and to her delight it hadn’t; closing the gate behind them as quietly as possible she walked up the stairs, stopping on the third step and opening up the clay pot to remove the spare key and unlocked the door. “You stand right here, be quiet and don’t say anything.” Ji Ho instructed Jeong who simply nodded, arms full of all the belongs they managed to escape the police with. Carefully and quietly Ji Ho climbed the stairs and went to the first bedroom door on the left. “Ee-mo, Ee-mo.” Ji Ho cooed, making her voice sound as syrupy and tired as possible while shaking the sleeping body in the bed. Carefully a sleepy older woman rolled over facing Ji Ho and reaching out looking for thick coke bottle glasses. “Oh! Ji Ho! Sweetie what are you doing here?” “oooh Ee-mo, everything is just wrong Ee-mo. I need help. I just need to stay here for a few days and borrow some money.” The older woman sat up in bed, flashing a smile bigger than her face and pulled Ji Ho in a tight embraced and rocked her back and forth. “There, there auntie’s girl. Don’t worry whatever you need I’ll help.” Park Han Jo was Min Ji Ho’s aunt. More than just an aunt, she was the mother that Ji Ho has wished that she had always had. Park Han Jo understood her, welcomed her, was always proud of her; her pictures were displayed proudly in the home, all of her accomplishments, graduating high school at the top of her class, Ji Ho at her last formal ball, Ji Ho graduating nursing school. She wasn’t hidden or made to feel ashamed that she didn’t measure up to Dahyun, Ji Ho was simply Ji Ho, the apple of her aunts eye. “It is late Ji Ho, why don’t you go to bed, we’ll talk in the morning okay?” Ji Ho smiled and nodded knowing that everything was coming to fruition just like she knew it would.
The next morning Ji Ho explained to her aunt that she was had gotten in to a little bit of trouble and needed to leave Seoul for a while. She introduced Jeong Hyun Soo as a lost soul she had taken in and was trying her best to rehabilitate back into society. In the days leading up to the premiere with the help of her aunt, Ji Ho was able to purchase all the make-up and clothing she would need to look proper for the red-carpet as well as make over Jeong. The last piece of the puzzle was convincing her aunt to leave home for a few days. Ji Ho could honestly say she only loved three people in this world, herself, Kim Seokjin and her aunt Park Han Jo. She understood things could get messy and if they did, she wanted as little, if any, collateral damage to her elderly woman as possible. On Wednesday morning, Ji Ho in full disguise, kissed her aunt on the cheek and loaded Park Han Jo into a taxi to a secluded spa on the coast. Later that night, she sent Jeong Hyun Soo to retrieve the van. As he backed it into the garage, a slow menacing smirk stretched across the face of Min Jin Ho.
Detectives Park and Lee desperately combed the city of Seoul looking for the fugitives Jeong Hyun Soo and Min Ji Ho. The first stop they made was to home of her mother Min Yoon-ah. “Ma’am, do you know why we’re paying you a visit today?” Detective Park began. Min Yoon-ah sat perfectly straight, hands gently cupped together on her lap, legs crossed at the ankle in the Queen Anne’s chair. Her make-up was light and becoming and done in a way that wouldn’t imply an age; her hair was swept up in a perfect chignon with not a single hair was out of place. The only possible sign that she was feeling any type or distress or tension, was the slight way she worried her mouth. Detective Park could tell that she was probably gnawing on the bottom left corner of the inside of her mouth. Before speaking, she took a gently sigh, followed by leaning forward and picking up the delicate antique tea cup and a taking a sip. She closed her eyes as she exhaled, Detective Lee observed how her lids fluttered, unsure of rather it was a sigh of contentment or of exhaustion. “I’m assuming its about Min Ji Ho. I’ve seen the news. I’m sorry but I don’t think that I can honestly help you. We haven’t spoken in quite some time.” Min Yoon-ah stated very coolly. “Well why don’t you tell us about your daughter then Mrs. Min.” Detective Lee stated. Min Yoon-ah once again sighed, but this time both detectives caught the hint of sadness that crept into her eyes. “Min Ji Ho was exceptional in school work. She was smart, she had talents, but she never truly connected well with others. It was easier with her older sister Dahyun; she was gorgeous, outgoing, highly intelligent. She had a secure place in the spotlight and I think sadly we ignored Ji Ho because we were so focused on all of Dahyun’s achievements. After Dahyun graduated high school and started college, the achievements just continued to collect. She got engaged during that time to a medical intern, so the focus just continued to be on her. The wedding took two full years to plan and it was a grand event, we had a full-page announcement in the paper and when the wedding actually took place it took a whole four pages in the newspaper to cover it. Three years after her sister got married, her father passed away. In his will he decided that Dayhun would inherit the business, but Ji Ho would inherit the warehouses. He had thought that this would be fair and impartial. He hadn’t anticipated Dayhun would relocate the business to Busan, where she and her husband currently live, essentially cutting Ji Ho out of the business. During that time, I tried to convince Dayhun not to move the business, but she had stated the whole reason she had cone to college was to be able to run the business her father has spent his life building. She had full control and there was nothing that I could do. This was nearly five years ago, she hasn’t spoken to me since.” “Mrs. Min, your daughter is being accused of stalking and attempted murder, do you believe she’s capable of either of these acts?” Min Yoon-ah hands betrayed her calm façade as the tea cup rattled against the saucer as she set it down on the table; her lips trembling as she attempted to control the sob that wanted to burst out of her. She nodded her head firmly before a statement of ‘yes’ fractured by tears uttered from her lips. “She could. We learned early in life about Ji Ho’s determination. If she put her mind to something, then it was simply a matter of time before it was done. If you believe she’s stalking this couple because she believes, she’s the only one good enough for this young man; then sadly I can assure you she will stop at nothing to get him. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Her first year of high school she became enamored with a second-year student and would make a scene anytime any other girl was seen talking to him. The final straw was when a young attractive woman became their English teacher. One day it was in class all the other students were there but when the teacher called on the young man Ji Ho flew into a rage. Her father paid out a large sum of money to the boy’s family as compensation. We withdrew her from school for the rest of the year and sent her to a private facility for the remainder of the school year; she spent four months there and at the end of the time the doctors said that she had impulse control issues and recommended that she continue to take the medicine and monitored, which we made sure of. After she moved out, there was no way for me to watch her any more. I knew she went to nursing school and graduated so I’d hope that she was still using the medicine and doing well. I guess not.” She has a history of this behavior then. Detective Lee said looking at Detective Park. “Does she have, close friends, family other than you or her sister? Is there someone who would help her?” Min Yoon-ah was beginning to say ‘no’ when her brow furrowed, and her expression changed to deep sadness. “Yes. Possibly, but if the police is involved I don’t think she would get them involved. She has an aunt, my late husband’s sister. She’s older and she’s always doted upon and taken care of Ji Ho. Ji Ho is fiercely protective of her; but Park Han Jo would do just about anything for Ji Ho. If she needed money or food or a place to stay she would do all to provide for her.” “Even though she’s a wanted criminal, she would take that great of a risk?” Detective Lee asked. Yoon-ah smiled softly. “She wouldn’t know that honestly. Park Han Jo lives out in the country, doesn’t have a t.v. she has only a radio that stays on one of those nostalgic music stations. Min Ji Ho could go there, tell her anything and she’d believe her without question.” Both detectives shot each other a knowing look. “We’re going to need all of her contact information.” Detective Park said.
On Wednesday afternoon you and Jin received a call from officer Lee Hoon-So asking if you could come to the station. Once arrived you were directed to his office just outside of the forensics lab “Mr. and Mrs. Kim, thank you for coming so short notice.” Officer Lee said, causing you to blush at the title.  “Not quite Mrs. Kim yet, but soon.” You giggled. “No, he was right the first time.” Jin said, taking your hand and kissing the back of your knuckles; it was now Officer’s lee turn to blush. “Well I asked the two of you here today, to show you the tracking devices we created for both of you. As we know both of your phones will be tracked while you’re at the event, but we also wanted to have something physically on you in the event you get separated. Mr. Kim told me that you two would be wearing the color purple for the evening, so we created these. Mr. Kim, for you, we have a tie pin. And for you, future Mrs. Kim we have this hair clip. If that doesn’t really work for your hair, then we had an alternative idea to sew the tracker into your dress. We wanted to go against anything that seemed like jewelry that could be taken off or removed easily. I’ve seen women who have their hair braided wear little ornaments in them and I thought maybe this would work.” Officer Lee said meekly. You picked up the tiny silver cuff with purple studs over it and sighed softly. It was delicate and beautiful, and it if wasn’t for the nature of it you would have really loved the sweetness of it. “It’s fine officer Lee. Thank you so much for taking the time to create it.” “The night of the event simply wear these, I’ll be with Seo and Song at your place to calibrate them prior to leaving.” You and Jin took your leave and headed back home. “Jinni, do you really think they’ll try something on Friday night?”  You asked voice in between pensive and annoyed. “Honestly Honey, I don’t know but I think so. This has been building to some sort of sick climax and unless the police catch them before then, its got to end somewhere. These aren’t the type of people to just give up and disappear. They tried to murder you. I’m determined to end this for you, with you safe, sound and unharmed.” You turned into Jin and spent the rest of the car ride back home in virtual silence.
As always Min Ji Ho had a plan. The base of her plan may have been the most elaborate part of her master plan, but all plans needed a base, and this just happened to be hers. She was going to kidnap Actress turned M.C Dara. Dara was set to be the lead entertainment correspondent on the red carpet that night and that was going to be her in to Kim Seokjin. Dara was one of the first looks that Ji Ho had perfected. She loved her carefree attitude, her style of dressing and the way everyone simply seemed to love and adore her. She’d copied everything from her style of dressing, to the way she talked and all of her mannerisms; Dara just wasn’t a look, it was a full-on aesthetic, a way of life of which she wanted nothing more than to truly belong too and live in. The only reason in which Ji Ho dieted was that she could pull off the perfect doppelganger to Dara. Min Ji Ho had carefully followed Dara in the past, even gained access to her home, posing as a cleaning lady and knew exactly all the nooks and crannies of her life. The plan, as Ji Ho saw it, was simple. Right before Dara was to appear on the red-carpet Ji Ho would appear, with the help of Jeong they would secure Dara and her camera man Brian, Ji Ho would then strip her, change in to her clothing, and Jeong would already be dressed in his tuxedo and being that they were together, no one would question the larger man. The pair had already stolen another van identical to the ones used by the entertainment crews. Ji Ho had discreetly followed Dara to her hair appointment and saw how her hair would be styled for the evening and replicated it with ease. While Ji Ho was studying Dara, Jeong was hard at work learning how to work the video camera, after all the broadcast would be live and he would need to know how to handle any situation on the fly with out contacting the production team in the real van. D-Day was a mere hours away and they would both be fully prepared for everything that was about to take place. It had taken a few hours for Detectives Park and Lee to drive out to residence of Park Han Jo located in a neighboring city outside of Seoul. Getting out of the vehicle both detectives got out and stretched. The house was large taking up at least an acre and a half of space. Just as they were about to walk to the gate, a neighbor stopped them. “You looking for Ahjumma? She left early this morning.” The woman said walking up to the two men. “I’m Detective Park and this is Detective Lee, we’re with Seoul Police Department. You said she left this morning do you know where?” “No, I did notice she had two suitcases with her. I know she likes to take trips this Buddhist retreat near Gunsan. I only know she’s gone because the taxi pulling up woke the dog its normally pretty quiet here, so it was unusual.” “Have you notice anything else unusual here, any new people?” Detective Lee asked. “She’s gotten a few deliveries. I can’t say of what, but I noticed she got packages on more than one day  last week and that’s not typical. But you know.” The neighbor shrugged. “Have you seen any additional people at her home, had any visitors?” The neighbor folded her arms across her chest and thought for a minute. “You know I thought that I saw some one put her in the taxi and then go inside but I can’t be sure.” Once again, the detectives exchanged looked with each other. “Ahjumma, do you mind we if we step inside and use your home for a minute and talk?” Detective Lee carefully backed the car up into the garage of the neighbor and joined her along with Detective Park. Once in the house, Detective Park called Chief Tuan and advised that they need a search warrant, and a discreet team to show up in two unmarked cars. One car should contain forensics and the other should have members of the bomb squad. There were to bring items with them to make it look as though they were about to celebrate a birthday. “Mrs. Kang, are you familiar with Min Ji Ho? She the niece of the woman who lives across the way?” Detective Lee asked. “Ahh. Yes, yes. Her pictures are all over Ahjumma’s home. She’s very proud of her, she’s the head nurse at the hospital she works, isn’t she? I think Ahjumma said recently that Ji Ho told her she was dating a very nice young man, they had to keep things a quiet because he’s famous. If I recall correctly.” Detective Park’s eyebrow’s met his hairline. “Do you remember when you had this conversation with Mrs. Park?” Detective Park asked. “ Mmm. It was two weeks ago, I remember that because I had just come back from a casino trip and I was telling her all about it and she had received a post card from Ji Ho.” “Mrs. Kang, I need you to listen very closely to everything I’m about to tell you. In a few hours, two cars are going to arrive full of people. They will be police officers and members of our bomb squad unit and forensic teams. Min Ji Ho is a suspected stalker and maybe aligned with a serial letter bomber, who’s been responsible for the death of three people and injuring a fourth. We are using your place to set up a headquarters so that we can investigate the house across the street and hopefully arrest these two individuals.” Mrs. Kang folded her arms across her chest and hugged herself tightly. “Ji Ho dangerous, oh my word! She always seemed like such a sweet girl, she’s had a bit of hard go of things, but she always comes out the other side with a sunny disposition I just simply cannot believe she could be dangerous. There must be some mistake.” “Trust us Ahjumma, there’s no mistake when we attempted to talk to her about this a few days ago she fled from us. She’s very dangerous. If you see her, please don’t approach her; if we’re not here then contact the police immediately.” Detective Lee said. Mrs. Kang nodded her before getting up to pour more tea. “Mrs. Kang, do you have cameras on your home?” Detective Lee ask, noticing the monitor by the front door. “Ahh, yes my kids insisted that I have it, I don’t think its needed by they worry about me being alone. They can tap into me in the home where they live in Daegu and Seoul. It makes them feel better, so I agreed.” “Do you have cameras on the outside too?” Mrs. Kang nodded. “Can we please see your monitors Mrs. Kang?” Detective Park replied. Mrs. Kang got up and ushered the men into her front living room. “The kids connected it to the tv I had no idea on how to work it but if you two know how…” Her voice trailed off as she gestured the remote control for the tv out to the two men; Detective Lee carefully accepted the remote from her hands and started the video feed. Slowly he put the video in reverse until he saw a figure walking out of the gate, and finally a taxi pulling into view. The feed was re-round until it played out fully. Three figures, the taxi driver, Park Han Jo and third heavily covered. The Detectives watched as the taxi driver hurried out of the cab to take the two bags from Park Han Jo, as she and another figured affectionately walked to the car, arms linked, the bundled figured hand patting the top of the older woman’s, hugging her tightly, kissing her cheek and helping get inside the car and closing the door. The figured stayed waving watching as they drove off before walking back behind the gate. The backed up the recording even further to what looked like late Monday night/early Tuesday morning as two figures, one a larger and the original bundled figured walked up to the gate, entered the code and walked inside. The figure was definitely familiar with the place. “That’s definitely them.” Detective Lee said. “Look at the way, the taller figure is walking, that’s consistent with the limp he got after a fight with another inmate in the facility that resulted in a severe injury to his knee.” “Yeah, I agree every part of me is screaming this is them alright. Let’s go forward see if they are still inside or if they have left for the day and how.” Detective Park said. Fast forwarding the tape, the two detectives watched as the two figures exited the home and walk down the block and out of the view of the camera.
“Chief Tuan its been two days and no activity at the home at all. We know they were there but they haven’t returned since they left on Wednesday. It’s now Thursday the premier is tomorrow I suggest we breach the house now.” Detective Park sat across from Chief Tuan at the dinning room table of Mrs. Kang, practically twitching to enter the home of Park Han Jo. “We know they were there, we know they aren’t there now. It’s a perfect time to go in.” Detective Park got up and began pacing. Chief Tuan leaned backed in the chair, steepling his fingers in front of his mouth and he chewed on his lip; face tight in thought. “Okay. Let’s do this right now. Get everyone assembled. We will do this as quickly as possible.” Detectives Park and Lee, along with Sergeant Nam shot up from their chairs and ran through the house gathering up the teams, getting geared up and prepared to enter in the home of Park Han Jo. Fifteen minutes later the two teams were assembled, Detective Park and Sergeant Nam, carefully the electronically picked the lock for the gate before cautiously moving towards the front door in teams of two. Once there the front door lock was all picked, Sergeant Nam began an initial floor sweep looking for any trip wires and using a depth sensory device checked the floors for any pressure sensitive bombs before moving the team forwards in the house. “Everything looks clear, bring it in guys.” Sergeant spoke into the radio. Detectives Park and Lee leading the way followed by Chief Tuan. “Detective Park, this is Sergeant Yoo, located the van in the garage. Bomb squad is currently going over it.” “Be careful and keep me informed.” Sweeping through the house from floor to floor room to room, it was clear both Jeong Hyun Soo and Min Ji Ho had in fact been staying in the home. Several make-up kits packaging was found, along with articles about the movie premier, catalogues with various dresses circled and hair magazines. “She’s definitely planning on attending the premier, the question is will she look like her self or not.” Detective Lee said. “Among some of the items found is a receipt for a gown and work jumpsuits, some one get online and look this dress up I want everyone to have a copy of what the dress looks like.” He continued. Detective Park carefully walked around the van eyeing all the contents displayed by the bomb squad. “More bomb making materials, fast food wrappers. Nothing to really say where they went after they fled from us on Monday. They may have just parked by the Han river and stayed there until they could have made their way here” Sergeant Yoo said. “I don’t buy that. The had to have acquired another vehicle. We say them walk away from the house and they haven’t been seen since and they wouldn’t just leave the van, we’ve already confirmed the plates don’t match, have you verified the whereabouts of the car it belongs too?” Detective Park asked. “I Sergeant Yang is following up with that right now Sir.” The younger male replied. Detectives Park and Lee met with Chief Tuan. “Sir, all that we know for certain is that they are going to the movie premier, we still don’t know anything and its pissing me off” Detective Lee all but spat out. “It’s like they are constantly two steps ahead of us and we are constantly trying to play catch up.” He added, his frustrations mounting; he sighed as he raked both hands through his hair. Detective Park gripped Detective Lee by the shoulders and gave him a firm shake. “Well this is what we do know, they are planning on being at the movie premier and so will we.”
                                   Friday: Premier Day/Night
“Jeong Hyun Soo…” Min Ji Ho cooed at the man as she smoothed on make-up putty and additional make up on to his face. “You are going to be so handsome when I’m done with you; once you’ve got your suit on you will look as though you should be in the movie and not holding a camera in front of all those awful celebrities. Except for Kim Seokjin. He’s perfect remember that, when you are filming him you must make sure he looks like the angel he is. Promise me.” “Will that make you happy?” Jeong mumbled out. “That will make me so happy!” “Then I will do my best for you then.” Jeong smiled showing nearly perfect teeth, the fake dentures Ji Ho insisted he wear impairing his speech. “Today, we will get Dara. Then later tonight we will Kim Seokjin and remind him that he belongs to me and dispose of that thing he’s been associated with.” Ji Ho commented as she applied putty to smooth out the wrinkles near his eyes. “That will make Ji Ho happy, and then we can be together?” Jeong mumbled. “Yes of course.” Ji Ho voice dripped like honey off of a spoon, smiling a smile that didn’t even begin to meet her eyes. Ji Ho had no intention of fulling being with Jeong, as far as she was concerned he was simply a means to an end, and full expendable. As soon as that bitch was dead by the hands of Jeong, and Kim Seokjin was secured she was leaving with him; Jeong would be left holding the bag for murder and kidnapping and she would be on her way to a happy life with the only other person she loved in this world other than her aunt. She’d already made arrangements to travel by boat from Seoul to Jeju Island, and from there to Nagasaki, Japan. In Japan she had already prepared their home where they would live, fully stocked with food and supplies and everything needed to live happily ever after with Kim Seokjin. Later that evening wearing work jumpsuits they knocked on the trailer occupied by Dara. “Delivery Miss.” Ji Ho announced, voice sounding as young as possible. Dara slid opened the van door to the delight of the huge basket of fruit being extended to her; suddenly she was shoved back into her trailer and Ji Ho was on top of her. Dara’s eyes went wild as her arms flailed, she whimpered as the prick of a needle jabbed into the soft spot of her shoulder. Terror filled her eyes as she heard the figures above her speak. “Tie her up good make sure she cannot speak or make a sound.”
“Sweetheart, you are absolutely breathtaking.” Jin smiled fondly at you as his eyes roamed over your sitting figure at the vanity. Jin would never get tired of that sight, you sitting, fussing with your hair, or make-up completing or starting your look, you were absolutely beautiful, and Jin could simply stare and watch you for hours. You turned giggling at him, shooting him a wink as you put on your earrings. You turned back to the mirror and admired yourself, even you would admit that you were absolutely stunning tonight. Femi, Siti, and Sariyah had once again worked their magic on you. Your make-up and nails were expertly done to compliment the purple of your dress. Femi had styled the eighteen inches of box braids you were currently wearing in high bun; the tracking device secured around a braid. “Sweetheart, I’ve got something for you.” You turned smiling at Jin. “Kim Seokjin, you have to stop spoiling me, I will expect this kind of treatment regularly when we’re married at this rate.” You said laughing. Standing up, walking over to you with a box in hand, Jin gently bent at the waist and kissed the shell of your ear. “Well you absolutely should expect it, I’ve got no plans to stop spoiling my girl anytime soon. Tonight, you will be introduced to the world as my queen, and I simply want you to look the part.” Carefully removing the lid from the box, Jin presented you with a silver and pearl accented Swarovski Crystal tiara. The filigree pattern filled with crystal with two tiny pearl accents near the top was simply gorgeous; you sat there utterly speechless as your eyes tried to take in every detail of it. “Do you like (Y/N)?” Jin’s voice full of affection and wonderment. “Jin I… Oh my God, Jin.” Your voice was a breathy sigh. “I showed it to Femi earlier and she said that it would slip right around the base of your bun just like this.” Jin, carefully lifted the tiara from the box and secured it around your high bun, gently pushing it in between the space of a few braids. “There. My Queen now has her proper crown.” Jin placed a sweet kiss against your temple and turned you back to the front of the mirror. The tiara fit perfectly and matched the tear drop earrings you were wearing that night. “Kim Seokjin, I love you!” Your lips crashed on to his as your hands interlocked behind his neck, Jin welcomed the kiss, his hands slipping to your waist drawing you in closer to him. His tongue pulling yours into his mouth, as he began to dominate the kiss; you moaned into the kiss, pressing your body further into his, your hands were making their way to Jin’s belt buckle when the doorbell rang, causing a Jin to groan in frustration. “Worst fucking timing ever!” He said. “Perfect timing actually. I’m not sure we had time for a quickie blowjob anyway.” You stood up, pecking his lips walking out the bedroom, leaving Jin to adjust himself. On the other side of the door stood Seo, Song, and Officer Lee. “Hello Gentlemen, please come in.” Officer Lee stood there slightly frozen, just staring. “Officer Lee is everything alright?” You asked. “She’s gorgeous, isn’t she?” Jin said, snaking his arm around your waist and kissing your temple. “I’m sorry, please forgive me. You look beautiful.” Officer Lee finally spoke, making you blush. Over the course of the next ten minutes Officer Lee calibrated both the physical tracking devices that you were Jin were wearing as well as the software that was being used on your phone. A second security briefing was done with Seo and Song and the two you. Finally, the night had arrived.

These are some more examples of the artist David Ambarzumjans work
David Ambarzumjan is an emerging artist, who currently lives and works in Munich, Germany. His works can be found in private collections and international exhibitions all around the world. His ongoing collection of oil paintings in the series “brushstrokes in time” is about juxtaposing what was, what is and what may be, exploring different landscapes and places to show how the force of nature and humanity shaped our earth over time. In 2020 he had a few exhibitions such as in June 13th- 28th (group show) “small works 2020” beinart gallery- Melbourne, Australia and one in July 30th- august 23rd: (solo show) antler gallery -Portland, OR,USA. He also has a few upcoming events such as a solo show in august 2021 in the beinard gallery in Melbourne, Australia. And an exhibition in 2022 called fall: think space gallery as a solo show in Los Angeles, CA, USA. His work can be found in private collections and international exhibitions all around the world. David ambarzumjan is an oil painter, known for his surreal paintings of brush strokes that traverse time. He also has enamoured with the wonders of our world and celebrates their beguiling essence through surreal paintings. The brushstrokes showcase another moment in time, and they also double as the lightning rods for change, “the collection,” ambarzumjan explains, “showcases how both the force of nature and humanity shaped our planet in sometimes beautiful but also devastating ways.” One of the clearest examples of this is in his painting titled impact. The background of the image features a docile scene of dinosaurs occupying a grassy field that is, of course, until a fiery orange brushstroke roars through the canvas depicting lava and destruction. “We were excited to speak with David ambarzumjan about his ongoing series of surreal landscape art and what it means to him. David ambarzumjan also said in an interview that “I’ve been drawing and painting since I can remember. To improve my skills, my parents sent me to different art schools, where I would learn to work with many mediums and pick up different techniques. That was a long time ago but it laid the groundwork and gave me the confidence to experiment and keep learning for myself, every day, with every brushstroke” what was the inspiration for these brushstroke paintings? “It all began with questions I would ask myself every once in a while: how did this place where I am standing right now look like a long time ago? What did we do to change the landscape around us and how did that impact other places around the world? The nature around us is so colourful yet different wherever we are on this planet. It’s hard to believe that all this originated from nothing but dust in outer space.”
Question to ambarzumjan: You’ve said before that you paint the whole canvas rather than painting around the brushstroke. How do you decide where the brushstroke is going to be? -depending on the subject of the piece, the brushstroke has a different meaning, therefore it requires a certain shape and position. In the human nature painting, the brush stroke represents the “footprint” of humanity, a quick, central and sudden movement to show how in just a couple of centuries the untouched nature would disappear and be replaced with man-made streets and buildings. The brush stroke in the impact painting literally takes the shape of the asteroid, that hit the earth and caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.
What do you hope that people think or feel when they view brushstrokes in time? - with these paintings, I want to emphasise how big, diverse and beautiful our planet is. There is so much life and history inside every brushstroke but there is so much to lose if we are not careful. The past has proven that we are capable of transforming any canvas that is given to us. I just hope that we paint ourselves a better future for our planet.
How do you see your brushstroke paintings evolving the more you create them? - I feel like there are endless possibilities but I’m currently thinking about the series to a more abstract direction, focusing on the contrast of light and dark tones.
What are you working on now? - I’m about to start working on a new painting that explores the future, or rather a possible future. It’s exciting to think about something that has yet to happen because so far I’ve only painted past and present landscapes. Alongside that, I’m constantly working on a few miniature paintings that are being auctioned off on my Instagram account

Tumblr media
It was midnight and Taehyung was in front of the Han river, under the biggest bridge witch cross the river from shore to shore, in a secluded niche where couples usually hide for privacy; It was the perfect spot to watch both the the bridge and the lights city which reflects themselves on the water surface, there are steps to sit and only a low stone wall divides people from the deep waters of the river. He had been sitting on those uncomfortable stairs for two hours and his ass was frozen and sore, but he could’t take of his eyes from the beautiful view before him. He could hear the cars passing by on the bridge, the voices of hundreds of people who combine in a single buzz, a cold breeze hit his face but he didn’t care about the coldness because he was completely lost in his thought, until he heard a loud scream coming from the bridge. Taehyung looked up and saw a young man, who had passed the safe rails, he was there but not even one car stopped to save him, they just went for their way not caring about the scared and lost stranger. Taehyung had observed the young male just for few seconds, before the latest threw himself in the river;
Without thinking twice, Taehyung took off his jacket and shoes, jumped on the stone wall and then in the water, he swam to the spot where the man's body had disappeared, there he went underwater and reached the poor unknown; then Taehyung swam to the lowest part of the wall and pulled the man and himself up on it. Even though Taehyung was completely devastated, without any energy left, he opened the stranger’s jacket and began pushing on his chest, after the third time the guy coughed off all the water he had inhaled.
- Are you ok ? Can you properly breath ?
Taehyung asked with a low tone to not scare the guy, who was shivering from had to toes.
- Why ? The stranger asked instead
- Sorry?
- Why did you save me ?
- it’s simple i just wanted to know why you screamed.
Taehyung’s answer was strange, maybe a little stupid too, but he knew that a simple “i wanted to” would’t have been enough in that moment.
- WTF
The young man had a confused expression on his face, he was not understanding why the other was so calm, he could have let him die or called the police, but he decided to throw himself in the river without thinking about the many risks.
- Hear me out now you thoughtless unknown- Taehyung said with the most authoritative voice he could make - i don't know why you thought that killing yourself was the right way of solving your problems, but it’s not.
- How do you know? Who are you to say that to me? everyone keeps saying those things when a person commit suicide, he gave up, they say, he is just a slacker , maybe it’s true i'm tired of my life and i just want to let go; however don’t think, not even for a second, that it was a simple choice...IT WAS THE HARDEST DECISION I’VE EVER MADE AND I CAN’T LET YOU BELITTLE IT LIKE THAT
He said it all in one go,without blinking, he was so furious and upset that he had completely forgotten his wet clothes and the fact that it was a very cold November night. Taehyung was shocked by the other speech, but he regained his consciousness before the unknown, who had already gotten up, could go away.
Taehyun asked himself how the guy could stand after a fall of 2 meter in the freezing whiter of a river, so he tried to stop him.
- Where do you think you are going all by yourself, you need to go to an hospital and call your family.
He was very scared, the guy was all wet and seemed totally lost, he just wanted to help him...he needed to!
So Taehyung did the first thing that came in to his mind, he grabbed the other guy from the back and kept him tight in his arms.
- LET ME GO YOU FREAK, LET ME ALONE FOR GOD SAKE .
- Why ? - he repeated, with a low voice and without hinting to let go.
- BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW YOU FREAK AND YOU RUINED MA CHANCE TO BE FREE.
- Taehyung
- What
- My name is Taehyung and i understand that now you are scared, but if you don’t want to go to the hospital or to your home, for whatever reason you have, i can bring you to my house and help you....
After those words, Taehyung freed the stranger from his breath taking hug and let him decide; they stayed there for interbinable and long minutes , until the guy turned around and, one more time, on his face there was a confused expression, but this time it was accompanied by sadness and a pair of teary eyes.
- Why are you so eager to help me ?
- Firstly because i know what it means to be lonely, not outside but in the inside, without having anyone that really cares for you, maybe you just want a house, you want to turn back to a person that will receive with a smile, a person you want to ran to or with whom shares tears. We are lonely and although we have different reason, maybe we could help each other...i'm not saying that God or destiny brought us here to save both of us; but i was here, i saw you, i saved you, so why don’t we try to take advantage of this opportunity ?!-
He said it with conviction and a little bit of excitement, because Taehyung knew that they could represent a new start for one another; many things happen in the world without a reason, they didn't happen because they were meant to be like that , those are all bullshit and Taehyung knew it. A person meets many people and lives many experiences during his life, some of those people and experiences are important and some aren't, it is our responsibility to choose wisely between them.
Taehyung was doing it, he might have chose the right person, but for sure he chose the right experience to learn from; because he was sitting there lost in his thoughts...”why am I here if I can’t remember?”....”why I continue to hope that someone will stay by my side, if I can’t even remember their name from one day to the next "...”why keep living alone”...”why don't i just throw myself in the water and leave all my demons behind ?”..but then he heard a scream and to prove to himself that he wasn't the one who had generated the loud noise, he looked up.
Taehyung was very proud of his little speech so proud that he he kept praising himself in his mind without realising that the guy’s expression had changed; he seemed happy and genuinely moved.
- You might be right...you don't look like a bad person and even if you are i don’t have nothing to lose, so i think we could try.
- So will you go to the hospital or you'll come with me ? If you come with me, i’ll offer you the best room i have in my house and i’ll feed you only the best food...i swear on Van Gogh's Starry Night.
Taehyung was dead serious when he said that, so he was caught off guard when the young man let out a little and cute laugh , but then he rapidly joined him.
- I’ll come with you, my weird but funny savior .
At this point, Taehyung took the (no more so ) stranger’s hand and lead him to his car. They practically ran to it, because it was a freaking super cold November night and they were all wet.
In the car, with the heating to the maximum, they began talking about their passions and wishes without thinking about their problems, maybe they had made the right choice.
- From what i understood you have many passions, but they are united by one factor, they are all artistic expressions?
- Yes exactly;
- I believe we have many passions in common, but unlike you I have one that is slightly more important than the others.
- It’s dance right ?
- How do you know ?
- When you mentioned your love for dance, you were not just happy, you were practically glowing, it was like seeing a man speaking about his enamoured.
- Thank you, for saying that and I just remembered that you’ve never finished your beautiful speech.
Taehyung was confused, he had repeated his speech many times in his head and he was sure he had end it in the best and most dramatic way possible.
- You began it with “Firstly” so you have at least one more reason for which you decided to help me.
- Well, when I brought you out of the water and saw you up close, i might have thought that you were the prettiest human being i have ever saw.
- T..th..thank you...
The unknown guy was shocked by those words, many people had said he was cute but nobody had ever said those words without wanting something from him and in that moment, a beautiful man like Taehyung had called him pretty, without wanting anything, he felt nice and warm, it was odd.
He calmed his hormones down and then he remembered a very important thing
- oh you don’t know my name yet...it’s J
- DON’T SAY IT
- Oh...ok..but why ?
- Because I wouldn’t remember it tomorrow....
- I don’t understand, what do you mean ?
- I’ll explain it to you, but you will also have to open up to me
- Deal
They arrived HOME.
A home in which thanks to the right person they will be happy to come back.

Fun and Alternative Things to do in Copenhagen – Perhaps Europe’s Coolest Capital City.
Travelling to Denmark and looking for alternative things to do in Copenhagen? I tried to explore Copenhagen beyond the usual sightseeing and travel advice, and put together this list of the best things to do in Copenhagen. I hope my Copenhagen travel tips – featuring all the fun things to do in Copenhagen and how to explore the city like a local – will make you love the city too!
There are few cities in the world I’ve loved like I loved Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. The capital of all that is cool, eco-friendly and eclectic.
This is a city with more bicycles than cars on the streets; with streets that belong in the museum of modern art; with cute little bicycle traffic lights; with foot rails at bicycle traffic lights to rest your feet! This is a city where no one lives more than 8 minutes away from a green space; where cemeteries are as much for the living as for the dead; where the government has committed to all public transport vehicles being electric by 2020.
Copenhagen – Alive and beautiful in spring!
Flying direct on Air India, from the mind-boggling chaos of Delhi, Copenhagen felt too quiet at first. Too empty. Too sanitised. But getting on a bicycle, like every other local, changed the way I experienced it.
There are plenty of popular things to do around here – visit the museum of modern art, hang out at Nyhavn (the new harbor), take a boat cruise along the canals, catch a panorama of the city from the Round Tower…
But if you really want to get off the tourist trail, take my list of alternative, offbeat things to do in the city and fall in love with it like I did:
Chill along the sand dunes and windmills of Amager Strandpark
Cycling amid the stark dunes and wilderness of Amager Strandpark.
Cycling nearly an hour out of the city, towards the coast of Copenhagen, past colourful little settlements, watching planes landing at the airport nearby, we landed up most unexpectedly at Amager Strandpark (or Amager Beach Park). The low sandy dunes, with wild bushes swaying in the wind and windmills spinning hypnotically along the coast, made me feel like we had arrived in the Scandinavia of yore – where man was yet to settle.
That’s exactly what made me fall in love with Copenhagen – one minute, we were grabbing vegan food at a trendy cafe in town; the other, we were cycling along sandy dunes with nothing but the sound of the waves in our ears and the cool northern wind on our faces.
Tip: In early spring, we only shared Amager Strandpark with a couple of runners and dog-walkers, but rumour has it that it gets busier in the summer, and even plays host to eclectic music concerts!

Catch Japanese sakura across the city in spring!
Under the cherry blossom canopy at Bispebjerg Cemetery.
I totally lucked out with catching the spectacular Japanese cherry trees in bloom a second time this year – across Copenhagen, in the third week of April (the first time was in Japan, where the sakura blossomed a few weeks earlier than predicted). At Bispebjerg Cemetery, a fifteen minute bicycle ride from the city centre, the cherry path, with cherry trees on either side, their flowers forming a canopy over the walking path, is truly a spectacle to behold – but also packed with people out to see this rare phenomenon. The good news is, many parks, gardens and walking paths throughout the city are planted with sakura trees, making the entire city feel alive in spring!
Tip: If you want to enjoy the most prominent sakura blossom sans the crowds, head to Bispebjerg Cemetery or the Little Mermaid Statue early morning.

Ride the Cykelslangen, connecting the old and new harbors of Copenhagen
The Cykelslangen – aka Bicycle Snake – in Copenhagen!
I’ve heard that half the world is jealous of Copenhagen’s cycling bridges, but I had no idea why – or even what a “cycling bridge” really was. Turns out, over 60% of Copenhagen locals cycle to work, and trendy cycling bridges have been designed to connect the harbors better and shorten work commutes! The Cykelslangen – also called the Bicycle Snake – is one such bridge, and I can’t quite express in words the joy of riding our bicycles over it one balmy afternoon, with the water flowing below us.
The Circle Bridge, designed in circles by a Danish-Icelandic artist, who is said to believe that the bridge shouldn’t just connect point A to B but also give the cyclist or pedestrian space to slow down and take in the gorgeous surroundings, like the Black Diamond (a public library in the glass facade of which the water shimmers) too. Well, mission accomplished. I rode across the bridge twice, totally enamoured by the design.
Tip: If you’re short on time, curious to find local spots or not confident cycling by yourself, consider taking a bicycle tour with Copenhagen Cool, set up by a cool Copenhagen local!

Sample local (and vegan) food at Torvehallerne Food Hall
Strolling around in Torvehallerne food hall.
Tivoli Food Hall is pretty popular among visitors to Copenhagen, but from what I hear, also pretty overpriced. On the suggestion of a local, we ended up for lunch (twice) at Torvehallerne Food Hall – split into two glass-walled halls, with an eclectic city ambiance, all kinds of cooked and raw food for sale, and packed with locals, expats and travellers.
While one of the halls focusses mostly on fish, I loved the food options in the other one – where I got an incredible avocado-hummus-pesto sandwich at Vita Boost and a skinny vegan raw cacao mousse at Fresh Market. Other vegan options included falafel and hummus sandwiches, salads and healthy vegan desserts.
Skinny (vegan) chocolate mousse at Torvehallerne food hall!
Tip: Pack your food at Torvehallerne, cross the street behind and enjoy it at the urban picnic spot (with stairs and benches to lounge on) in the warm sun.

Hang out by the Baltic Sea at Bellevue Beach
Hanging out at the lighthouse at Bellevue Beach.
Of all things I expected to be doing in Copenhagen, I hardly expected to be cycling on a nearly empty cycling track along the cobalt blue coast and idyllic countryside of northern Copenhagen, just forty minutes from downtown. Bellevue Beach is a long white sand beach, flanked by an old lighthouse and at the time of our visit, dramatic clouds in the vast skies above. At nearly 5 degrees celcius, the water was too cold for a dip, but come summer (and for the more hardcore ones, come winter), I hear locals plunge in, then warm up at a temporary sauna set up within a container! Copenhagen’s quirky like that.

Loose yourself in the night sky at the Tycho Brahe Planetarium
Another world – 3D movies at the Copenhagen Planetarium.
You can probably tell by the name of this blog how much I love the night sky! So on a rainy evening, we made our way to Tycho Brahe Planetarium, to catch some astronomy exhibits, a short but stunning 3D film about our galaxy and a Nat Geo documentary about the invisible things that happen around us. For those few hours, I felt transported into a different world – a world we’re surrounded by but often forget to notice. If you want to renew your love for our planet, or inspire yourself or your kids to think of the future differently, spare a few hours for the Copenhagen planetarium – I promise it’ll be a day well spent.
Tip: Entry to the Tycho Brahe Planetarium is free with the Copenhagen Card. Movies cost extra, but are totally worth it. The movies are in Danish but English translation is offered through headphone; carry your own or you’ll have to buy a pair. See the movie schedule here.

Check out the “modern art” street at Superkilen
The contours of the street at Superkilen.
When I saw a photo of Superkilen on Instagram, in the hep Nørrebro district of Copenhagen, I was really intrigued. This is an open urban space – its most striking feature a “modern art” street for pedestrians and cyclists – dotted with paraphernalia from around the world, signifying the cultural diversity of Nørrebro. Think Swiss drains, Iraqi benches, a Moroccan fountain and a Tanzanian manhole cover!
Tip: Cool or quirky, you decide, with the handy Superkilen App which has an interactive guided map to showcase its diversity of landmarks.

Introspect about life at Assistens Cemetery, the resting place of HC Andersen
Strolling under the sakura at Assistens Cemetery.
The famous Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen, gave us childhood classics like The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling and Thumbelina. And it is at Assistens Cemetery, in the heart of Copenhagen, that he was laid to rest.
As we strolled through the cemetery, under the warm spring sun, amid gorgeous cherry blossoms, alongside locals walking or cycling through, past barren trees slowly turning green, it struck me that the cemeteries of Copenhagen are not just for those who’ve passed away but also for those who live. At one of the graves, I noticed a small group of friends – there were tears in their eyes but also laughter on their faces, like they had come to see an old friend, to celebrate a life, not to mourn it.
I guess it’s quite apt that one of Andersen’s fairytales said: “Just living is not enough… one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.”
Tip: Assistens Cemetery is still used for funerals and burials; please be mindful of any in progress at the time of your visit.

Cycle to the quirky Hermitage Palace in Dyrehaven
Cycling to the Hermitage Palace in Dyrehaven.
Without a map, we set out past Bellevue Beach towards Dyrehaven – once a private forest reserve with hunting trails and wild deer – and got quite lost on the quaint countryside. The only locals we spotted were two women, seemingly foraging for mushrooms, who set us on the trail to the Hermitage Palace amid the wilderness of Dyrehaven, with no other signs along the way. Built in the 18th century as a hunting retreat for the royal family, the palace is best known for having a dinner table that could be lifted on the click of a button, from the kitchen to the dining room upstairs, so the diners could eat in solitude… inspiring the name “Hermitage Palace”!
Tip: Guided tours of the palace are available on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from June to August, and tickets must be purchased online in advance. Keep some extra time at hand to cycle amid the wilderness and old trees of Dyrehaven.

Feel like you’re in the Caribbean at the freetown of Christiania
Colorful houses in Christiania.
Copenhagen’s alternative neighborhood – with no cars, women blacksmiths, a street where hash is sold (illegal though it is in Denmark), organic eateries, urban kitchen gardens, houses with quirky designs, vibrant graffiti and a laid-back Caribbean-esque vibe – is certainly an interesting place to while away a few hours. Set up by a group of hippies in the early 1970s, it has evolved into an eclectic self-governing township, where decisions are made democratically and freetown shares are sold to generate revenue! I sure hope to go back to Copenhagen someday and learn more about the free-thinking residents of Christiania.
Tip: Consider taking a guided tour of Christiania with a local resident, to learn more about their governance and life philosophy. Note that photography is not allowed at Pusher Street.

Copenhagen travel tips:
When to visit Copenhagen: I absolutely loved spring in Copenhagen. The weather was cool, the wind chilly, the cherry trees in bloom, wildflowers in the forests, parties on the street, the day long with sunset post 8 pm; it felt like the city had just come back to life after a cold winter!
Schengen visa for Indian citizens: I applied at the Danish embassy for my Schengen visa this time – and while the process was short (4 working days) and seamless, I was surprised by the requirement to submit a colour photocopy of my ENTIRE passport; what a waste of paper and money. Read all my tips to score a Schengen visa.
Direct flights from India to Copenhagen: Air India now offers direct flights between Delhi and Copenhagen every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Where to stay in Copenhagen: I stayed close to the Copenhagen lakes and liked the location for being pretty central to everything. Next time, I would love to stay in the hep neighborhood of Nørrebro. I mostly use booking.com to find good deals for city stays; if you haven’t signed up yet, use my referral to get 10$ off your first stay!
Where to rent a bicycle in Copenhagen: We got a good deal for bicycles at Baisikeli – 80 DKK for 24 hours + 35 DKK for each additional day. It’s a bit of a walk out of town though.
Simple words to know in Danish: Hej = hello (pronounced like hi); tak = thanks; hej hej = bye bye!
