Soooooooo mad that Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice introduces the concept of judicial reform when by the time the original trilogy is over, all these characters have been so thoroughly fucked by the legal system that they're not only primed for abolition, they would probably wouldn't be opposed to burning the relevant buildings to the ground. Maya Fey has been falsely accused God knows how many times, has had to stumble across her sister's corpse because the local legal community repeatedly decided it wasn't worth risking their professional reputations to stop a blatantly dangerous and incompetent individual, and now that same legal community is sending the only person within it who cared about this fumble to jail (or possibly death), even though he already died once via trying to carry out justice through that very same the system.

Phoenix only joined the legal system to rescue Miles from it, the system that frames cases as having a "winner" and "loser," thus creating the mindset that rewarded Manfred Von Karma's behavior. Miles spends Game 2 babbling that crap about finding the truth that is no way supported by the system (likely huffing copium tbh) but regardless, by the time Game 3 rolls around, even he accepts that he will have to commit fraud in order for justice to be served, aided and abetted by Franziska. And they get away with it super easily, because the system is as incompetent as it is inherently, purposefully unjust.

And then AA4 has the audacity to ask us to believe a JURIST SYSTEM will help at all?

You think a JURIST SYSTEM would acquit ADRIAN ANDREWS, an unknown, mentally-ill woman, heavily implied to be sexually active, who fans of Juan and Matt would see as disloyal to both? A woman who not only cultivated the persona of "ice bitch," but followed it up with the PR mortal sin of letting her ice bitch persona crumble into tears and begging for help? You think a jurist system would acquit HER, compared to Matt "Refreshing As A Spring Breeze" Engarde? The only reason she gets acquitted in canon is because Gumshoe-- not a cop anymore-- steals from cops, and Franziska voluntarily decides to bring in the completely illegal, stolen evidence, and even THEN, they know they can't get justice from the system. They have to ask for justice from a hitman, who grants it, because even a killer for hire has more potential for morality than the legal system. Maya's rescue and Adrian's exoneration happen not because of the competency of the police system or the court system, but rather, explicitly in spite of standard legal procedures.

So YOU'RE telling ME that when Phoenix gets DISBARRED, not only does he want to get back to law, but his solution after 7 years of scheming is just...the shitty justice system already not working in the real world? REALLY? All this shit happens, and Klavier Gavin is MORE committed to being a lawyer instead of rebranding as an ACAB solo act? REALLY?!?!??

(I cannot even get into the hellscape that is Ema Skye feeling an OBLIGATION to this system in ANY CAPACITY, LET ALONE...)

On the tail end of 3-5 she finds herself sick with the same thing he had and he takes a couple hundred lashings in an attempt to keep an eye on her. Feelings happen. An understanding is maybe reached. The first AA fic I ever wrote! I’m proud of it.

the prosecution rests (in her girlfriend's arms) | Franziska/Maya | 16.5k - Two FranMaya sickfics I wrote for FranMaya week’s h/c prompt! Two different points in their relationship, one where Fran is sick and the other where Maya is. I wanted to write something exceedingly self indulgent without a single apology and that’s what chapter 1 is. Chapter 2 was fueled entirely by my love of the feverish confession trope. 

Strahlender Karmaritter | Franziska & Miles | 15.1k - Long, heavily introspective, purple prose-y character analysis about Franziska von Karma’s life, rising above the immense and unforgivable pain she’s been forced to endure, and learning to let go and heal. Follows her from early childhood and through the events of the OG trilogy, mostly just talking about how much she loves her brother. This is my kindump fic. This is my pride and joy. If you never read any of my AA fics at least read this one. I bled my heart and soul into it. I love this fic like a sister.

i am above you (and i love you) | Miles (& a little Franziska) | 1.8k - Miles takes a rare sick day and reflects on some of the different ways people in his life have cared for him, and what it means to feel home. 

Bare Bones | Franziska/Maya | 1.7k - Franziska thinks efficiently: if you’re sick, you should treat your symptoms in the most effective way, for maximum wellness and comfort, so that you may get on with your damned life. Maya thinks that a paper kitchen towel is an acceptable tissue and that painkillers are a good enough substitute for Coldkiller. They love each other, really they do. 

sing louder than you've sung, for me | Franziska & Miles | 2k - Franziska’s 14 and doesn’t know her limits when it comes to alcohol, but good luck telling her that without getting flayed to ribbons. Miles takes care of her during the inevitable post-christmas hangover. It mostly works.

No Whipping the Sick! | Franziska & Phoenix | 1.9k - Set in the middle of 3-5, Franziska and Phoenix investigate Hazakura while he is still in absolutely no condition to be upright, and something about her--however subtle--is just a little bit softer than usual. 

gone off to the coast | Manfred von Karma | 1.4k - loser old man convalesces alone at his private beachhouse with his shoulder pumped full of lead ‘cause he’s a fucking shit for brains idiot. through the haze of pain and fever or maybe something else entirely, he starts seeing ghosts.

Chicken Soup for the Prosecution's Soul | Franziska/Maya | 2.6k - Franziska, idiot, is standing trial with what is probably the most emphatic headcold to ever grace mankind. Maya decides she’s going to do something about it.

If It Weren't For That Meddling Medium | Franziska/Maya | 5.6k - It’s supposed to be a universal truth to anyone with eyes that Franziska is not someone you should ever attempt to baby or coddle. But... maybe all the poor fools who’ve tried simply didn’t try hard enough, and Maya is not someone who easily gives in. This is another very personal, very special fic to me, one I wrote a lot of my own feelings and desires into. If you’re only gonna read a handful of my sicktember fics this is definitely one I’d recommend. 

Gute Besserung | Franziska/Maya | 2k - You guys ever tried that fucked up ginger tea that the germans make that’s just like. Straight up boiled ginger with like maybe 1 lemon slice if you’re lucky? Is this just me? Just my family? I feel like I’m drinking fucking pinesol. I hate that it works. Anyways I somehow projected onto Maya for this fic, a very rare phenomenon indeed. 

Dry Drowning | Franziska/Maya | 2.6k - Franziska is an idiot who is bad at being sick, and Maya is going to attack her like a wild animal if she does not stop sniffling every five seconds. One of my friends & favourite commenters left on this fic my favourite feedback I’ve ever gotten on any sickfic I’ve written to date, “You made Franziska so gross in this one,” which I think I want tattooed. In 2023 I vow to make her grosser.

You Have the Right to Remain in Bed | Franziska/Maya & Gumshoe | 3.3k - Franziska willingly takes a sick day and Gumshoe, naturally, thinks something must be horribly wrong. He takes it upon himself to do some rogue investigating. This is Ace Attorney, so chaos fucking ensures. 

make me proud / make mistakes / make me laugh | Franziska & Manfred | 3.6k - Franziska overdoes it in her nonstop pre-Bar studying, and her papa looks after her and tries not to think too hard about all the little pieces of him she seems to contain. hugs this fic. I love this fic so so so much, I am so happy I got to write it.

Innerer Schweinehund | Franziska & Miles | 2.2k - The first part of my ‘Franziska has dog allergies’ agenda, a headcanon I am attached to entirely because of how funny it is. This is a fic about her stressing her brother out by shoving her face directly into his dog, and how she does this every time, and how Miles is still somehow surprised every goddamn time it happens. 

Waldeinsamkeit | Franziska/Maya | 4.3k - Franziska and Maya go on a little vacation in a cabin in the cascades, Franziska gets sick and insists she’s fine, and then Maya catches it from her and does not agree. Then they are soft and cuddle in the hot tub.

Red (Velvet) | Franziska & Miles | 4.2k - Through her own typical stubbornness, 13 year old Fran gets a bad sunburn. She does not stop being a brat about this even as it’s worsening, but Miles, at least, is used to that by now. He does his best to tend to her. Officially, he is not her big brother, but every once in a while he comes very close to acting like one. 

(with love) from me to you | Franziska/Maya | 3.2k - When Maya came down sick on their holiday, Franziska was more than welcome to spend it doting and making sure her wife was cozy. She was NOT, however, similarly amicable to Interpol calling her away for necessary business when she explicitly told them she’d be unavailable. Still, she does her best to make sure Maya feels as loved as she is from afar. 

Unter einer Decke stecken | Franziska & Miles | 2.2k - Franziska, even as an elementary school-aged child, is very good at a great many things. One thing she is not good at is resisting to urge to check up on her shiny brand new brother when he’s miserably sick and confined to his room. Naturally this ends up being an illness that they share. It’s ok tho they’ve got power rangers

let the record show (i told you so) | Franziska & Miles | 3.6k - Miles knows how picky of an eater his incredibly autistic sister is, and so when she warns him about the quality of the food at this dive, he is certain that it is just that. Until several hours later when he is thoroughly food poisoned. He expects absolutely no mercy from her, but it seems she’s still got just a little bit to give.

Franziska comes down sick in such a moment and in such a way that she is certain it is meant to be a plot device in the movie that is her life. Every second of it seems better suited to a sitcom episode, certainly not reality. Nevertheless Maya is there to scoop her up and make her feel all better after a long, long, long fucking day. I wanted to write this fic for YEARS and finally getting to it was everything I ever hoped for.

Tender Loathing Care | Franziska & Phoenix | 2.8k - Phoenix finds Franziska in her shitty temp office battling the flu and insisting she doesn’t have the flu. There’s a genuine attempt made to look after her. They are trying their best.

As You Wish | Franziska/Maya | 3.8k - Maya goes overboard with her waterfall thing and catches a cold (again), but this time Franziska is nearby to keep her warm make her feel better. And they flirt lots and are soooo soft and Franziska is really really really butch.

Wintersonnenstrahl, kalt wie Vichysoisse | Franziska & Miles | 2.1k - Miles drives his sister to the emergency room as she bleeds out on his overpriced upholstery and complains the entire time. Set during 2-4, so naturally she is very very rightfully upset with him, but at the end of the day it would take armageddon to fully snuff out the love that’s still there.

Pantoffelheld | Franziska/Maya | 5.7k | NSFW - Surprise! It’s smut! Franziska and Maya have not yet come to truly define their relationship but one thing, at least, is fundamentally clear: they are very in love and profoundly horny for one another. Maya wasn’t really expecting their first time to happen while she was disgustingly ill and covered in vapor rub but a fuck is a fuck and she’ll fuck Franziska anytime anywhere.

Staying awake for 40+ hours, locking herself in a freezing temple, and spending hours with Phoenix while he was sick have not been kind to Franziska. She now finds herself forced into a loud dinner while miserably symptomatic, barely able to stay lucid, but there’s a lot of people looking out for her, doing what they can to make her a little more comfy. She deserves it, after all her hard work.

Earthshaker / Skyquaker | Franziska & Miles | 2.3k - A feverish Franziska is always a little more loose-lipped, a little easier to crack open. Her and Miles bond over two fundamentally different traumas, meeting for a brief moment on some ephemeral horizon. Set in the gap between games 2 and 3, while Miles was vaguely described as being somewhere in Europe.

Fix und Fertig | Franziska & Gumshoe | 3.5k - Taking place smack dab in the middle of game 2, Franziska comes to work sick and Gumshoe hovers in her general peripheral looking like a kicked animal because he can’t scoop her up and make her soup without getting stomped to death by her hooves. Eventually, though, through sheer exhaustion alone, she relents.

Resisting A Rest | Franziska/Maya | 2.9k - Maya awakens to the sound of her sick girlfriend doing whip practice on the balcony despite the fact that she should be doing literally anything else. She wrestles her onto the couch and kisses her until she stops complaining.

State v. Histamines | Franziska & Miles | 3.7k - Franziska loving flowers and being allergic to dogs 🤝 Miles loving dogs and being allergic to flowers. Apparently I thought this was a funny enough concept to carry a fic. And I was right.

Forgetmenots and Marigolds | Franziska & Gregory & Miles | 7.5k - Surprise! I can write things that aren’t sickfic! Miles is finally ready to take Maya up on her offer to channel Gregory, but his nerves are a mess and he’d like his sister there for emotional support. Franziska cannot imagine why he’d ever ask such a thing of her, given everything. Nevertheless, she accompanies him, and not a single one of them come out of it not crying. If my reviews are anything to go by, you will also cry.

What an amazing fucking year for writing! Sicktember was a big challenge to myself this year--I always thought I wasn’t made for monthly challenges, because I always thought I wasn’t made for deadlines, and the idea of writing and completing a piece every single day was terrifying. Turns out, if the prompts are posted early, I’m great at it! I loved planning and executing. It was also a challenge to myself to not force myself to outline things or write profound, deep shit. Sometimes a story can just be light and fluffy like junk food or a home cooked meal, and that is OKAY.

This year I challenged myself to not be a raging perfectionist, and to just write, AND I SUCCEEDED! And I am STILL proud of and in love with everything I’ve written, even if it isn’t up to my own impossible standards. WE LOVE GROWTH!!!!!!

Specifically focusing on the reader and how they deal with being a veteran of WWI, dealing with people either despising them for losing the war (given how fucked over Germany got thanks to the Treaty of Versailles) or admiring them and heroizing them for being a soldier without understanding how hellish war truly is (since All Quiet on the Western Front was published in 1929, not many people beforehand truly understand the horrors of war given how romanticized war generally was, and I most definitely can imagine how frustrated the reader would be when people are just so fucking oblivious)

Or if you'd like since I just finished watching Halloween for the first time (like a loser who has never watched slasher films before) lil bit of modern Manfred fluff where he and the reader are watching the 1978/original version ^^

I. I just finished fully playing through Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, and Kristoph *scares* me. It's one thing to hear about it through fandom osmosis, but to actually see for my own eyes, just how absolutely unrepentant he is for his actions? His theme is calming, his color scheme is calming; hell, most of his expressions are fairly leveled. But the rest of the expressions, his actions, the allergy he seems to have to realizing what he did was wrong? The BREAKDOWN? He's terrifying. Good grief.

Everything you say is true, and there is a reason he’s so damn terrifying in many of his portrayals in fandom, because he IS. (And those of you who enjoy him as a character, please stop reading here - you have your opinion and that’s fine, I’m about to get lippy about a character you like and you probably have better things to do with your time than subject yourself to that.)

(okay, only people who want to see me get sassy at Kristoph? Okay, good, continuing on)

However he’s also a heckin’ spoiled loser-nerd who’s even worse at handling potentially losing a case than freakin’ Manfred von Karma, probably micromanages his law firm with an iron fist, has no idea how to delegate as a result, views himself as infallible while also being terrified of caught by Phoenix to the point that it’s strongly implied that that’s what those black psyche-locks of his are (ie he literally can’t admit to himself how terrified he is of Phoenix getting proof of his crimes), he was so concerned that his seventeen-year-old brother might best him in trial that he got some forgery done (deeper irony: his potential client was freaking innocent (at least in regards to that particular crime) so the forgery wouldn’t even have been necessary if he was as good as he thought he was), he shot himself in the foot multiple times because if he had just left Phoenix alone Phoenix would probably have never found out it was all Kristoph’s fault-

Basically, yes. Kristoph is a freaking psychopath/sociopath/something-that-means-he-has-no-empathy-for-others, he’s wicked smart, he’s highly dangerous, he is very scary. He probably also mainlines coffee when no one’s looking and hasn’t had a vacation day since he started law school through his own inability to trust anyone to help him, and any and every single character trait he has that others use to make him scary, I can and will use to make him look like a total moron without breaking character.

TL;DR: Kristoph Gavin is scary as fuck and I am going to mock him for all eternity because he deserves it. ‘Coolest Attorney in the West,’ more like ‘Paranoid Helicopter Boss,’ back me up on this one, Apollo.

Request: “Can you write Arthur with chronic migraines?”

God, @disabledwarriorwriter​ thank you very much for your patience!! I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it. The song is “Ha! Ha! Said the clown” by Manfred Mann; but I had in mind the tune of “Send in the clowns” sksksks Idkw This is pure fluff (and slight angst at the beggining), so I hope I have fulfilled your request the right way, otherwise let me know and I will gladly modify it.

Also, sorry my English is more basic than H2O, I’m still learning. Here you go!

Arthur hates to worry you, he always tries to act like everything’s okay and whenever he has a migraine episode, he runs to the bathroom as soon as possible. But sometimes it is impossible for you not to notice…

“This whole thing is ridiculous, Arthur, it’s pathetic. What were you thinking, for God’s sake!?!?”

Arthur remained silent, his headache had been killing him since the morning and Hoyt’s screams made everything worse, even making him want to throw up.

Today, his migraine episodes were stronger than usual, the pain had been so sharp that he couldn’t help but have a fit in the middle of a children’s party, causing all the kids to panic and start crying as well. The result? Angry, creeped out parents yelling at him. Oh, and Hoyt speaking to him as if he was retarded:

“Do you even understand what the fuck I’m saying? I swear I’m wasting my time with your dented brain. Look, I’ll make it simple: I DON’T WANT to put up with this kinda bullshit again, got it?”

Screams and more screams, Arthur grimaced feeling he couldn’t ignore the pain.

“What? Are you going to cry? Pfft, not in my office, get outta here, I don’t have anything else for you.”

But Arthur didn’t move a muscle to leave, he stood there with his head down, stroking his arm to comfort himself.

“What ya waiting for, asshole!?!?”

“My paycheck…” He mumbled as he felt a sudden turn in the stomach, fearing for the answer.

Hoyt just laughed and leaned back in his chair: “You kiddin’, right?”

Art smiled uneasy, stroking his arm non-stop, trying to imagine it was your hand soothing him: “No, it’s just I thought that… uhh… since I worked… since I worked really hard during the week, I thought that…”

“Arthur, Arthur…shut the fuck up, k? You should be thankful I didn’t fire you; now get the hell outta here before I do it, freak.”

“Freak” Ugh, he hated when Hoyt used that word, it made his head rumble with helplessness. And the bouncing of the bus only made it worse.

When he finally came home, he hesitated an eternity in front of the door: “How are you going to explain that Hoyt didn’t pay you? She will find out you’re a loser.” Ugh, if his head didn’t hurt so much, he might think of some not-so-self-humiliating way of telling you.

…

As soon as you heard the door opening, you ran to meet him:

“Arthur!! You’re home early today!!”

“Y/N, I want…I have to-to tell you something important.”

You frowned, a little concerned about the earnestness you noticed in his words.

“Uhmmm, okay…? I hear you, hun. What do you have to tell m–”

“I need to go to the bathroom.”

You chuckled a bit at his “confession” and the weird way he said it.

“You know you can go, love. In the meantime, I’ll serve dinner so try not to take too much time there, okay?”

Arthur nodded his face full of concern and walked towards the bathroom, but the throbbing pain that had been increasing since the morning, reached its limit and made him feel so dizzy that he lost his balance and faded on the floor, legs trembling, holding himself vaguely on the center table.

“ARTHUR!! ARE YOU OKAY?!?”

At your screams, Arthur immediately grabbed his head, feeling his brain bounce off his skull. That’s when you realized what was going on:

“Arthur, please tell me that you DID take the pills for your migraines.” You scolded as you helped him get up and guided him to bed.

Artie started to chuckle while you were taking off his shoes, which made you feel like maybe you were pushing him too hard.

“SoHA.. soHA..soHAHAHArry..HAHAHA..” He couldn’t hold back his thunderous laughter, which just made his head hurt more.

“HOYHAHA..HOYT..HAHACHHG” He was choking on trying to explain, so he brought both hands to his throat, looking desperate.

“Artie, it’s okay love, you have to calm down, don’t talk, breathe with m..”

“MY PAHAY… HE DIHAHAHA…HE DIDN’T..” Despite how unintelligible his sounds were, you understood what your Arthur meant, so you tried to put him to bed and ran for his pill.

When you returned he was curled up in a fetal position, his attack had not stopped, but he drowned it covering his head in the pillows, full of shame.

You approached him and noticed that he was burying his nails in the pillows, you couldn’t even imagine the intensity of the headache he was having.

“Love, take your pill, it will make you feel better.” You insisted, stroking his back softly.

He swallowed it and turned to see you, with fear in each of his gestures:

“I won’t make it through the night, Y/N.” He confessed, sobbing and wiping his tears with his sleeves.

“Art, don’t say that, silly, you’ll be fine…” But you doubted your words a bit, seeing your Arthur like this was killing you too.

…

So, you laid down next to him and hugged his head burning with fever, giving him a thousand kisses that allowed you to smell the fresh and peculiar scent of his mane.

You started to gently brush his hair back with your fingers, while he dipped his head into your stomach as if the heat of your body gave him some kind of relief.

You entwined your fingers between his soft brown locks and brought your lips close to his ear as much as you could to whisper to him in a peaceful tone:

♬♫♬ “Feeling low…” ♬♫♬ Then, you caressed his ear with your fingertips, still feeling him sob against your abdomen.

♬♫♬ “Gotta go, see a show in town..” ♬♫♬ You rub his silk lobe with your thumb and continue, smiling slightly:

♬♫♬ “Hear the jokes, have a smoke, and a laugh at the clown” ♬♫♬

♬♪ “In… a…. whirl..” ♬ He utters in a shaky voice, sniffing, you can feel his warm breath against your navel, even when you have your blouse on.

♬♫ “See a girl with a smile in her eyes, never thought I’d be brought right down” ♬♪

♬♪♭♩ “By her lies” ♬♪♭♩ You sing in chorus and it’s almost as if you can hear him smile, which makes you smile too.

You pause, here comes Arthur’s favorite part:

♬♫♬ “Grab the coat” ♬♫♬ And you slide your hand with some panache through his jacket

♬♫♬ “Grab my hat” ♬♫♬ And you give two gentle taps on his head with your index finger, making him giggle a little bit.

♬♫♬ “Look that girl in the eye” ♬♫♬ You command him and raise his face with your hand under his chin.

He smiles at you and continues excited the song, out of tune with how torn his voice is:

♬♯♬ “Where’s your home, what’s your phone number, *ahem* sorry..” He realized how awful he sounded, so he took refuge in your belly again.

♬♫♬ “Stop fooling ‘round, could have died, she replied..” ♬♫♬

You hug his head again to calm him down and plant a long kiss on his warm scalp, now comes the end and your favorite phrase, so your tone softens even more:

♬♪ “…I’m the wife of the clo–” ♬♪

♬♪ “Carnivaaal..” ♬♪ He whispered with his eyes closed, helping you finish the song according to him, hidden in your arms.

He raised his face only to look you in the eye: his messy hair made him look more tender than usual, his face looked tired but his eyes had a special shine, it was as if they were smiling at you.

“You know, Y/N”

He murmured and paused, admitting it was difficult because despite all the love you showed him, there was always that latent fear in his mind that you would realize how pathetic he is and then leave, like his father, like everybody…

“One day I’ll make you my wife”

He finally sentenced, smiling at you proudly, and immediately afterward buried his face in your stomach, feeling shy and vulnerable.

“Like the clown of the song”

He yawned with full happiness, hugging your legs as if they were his teddy bear and letting his eyes surrender to the tiredness that invaded every part of his fragile, worn-out body.

A tear ran down your cheek, Arthur always found a way to make you fall deeper in love with him, every day. And you, you would sing until he understood that you’re there for him, that his problems are also yours, that he doesn’t have to live his grief in solitude anymore, that you two could overcome everything together, because two heads are better than one.

MLB Cheating Scandal Thoughts

As a LA Dodger fan I have been fuming with the not surprising revelation that the Astros and most likely the Red Sox cheated in the 2017 and 2018 World Series. 

For the Astros which have been shown to cheat on a large scale the “punishment” handed down by the MLB was a fucking joke. A fine of 5 million dollars is chump change, loss of 4 picks over two years a total joke and a years suspension for the GM and Manager big fucking deal. Add to it MLB Commissioner Rod Manfred is telling clubs and players to be quiet about this adds to my anger. In my opinion what should have happened and still could is this:

- Astros stripped of the 2017 World Series

- Record books to be left blank with a blurb as to why

- The Astros ALCS championship should be stripped

- Astros players from the 2017 squad made to return the rings

- All hitting and MPV awards stripped from players

- Alex Cora banned from baseball for life

- The same should happen to Boston if they are guilty of cheating

Now I know none of this will happen because Manfred doesn’t have the balls to do this and the punishment so light that other clubs will see this a cheap price to pay for winning. This isn’t just about the World Series, it is about blatant cheating, the legacy of players like Clayton Kershaw ect who are now labeled as losers. When it comes to Kersh I know he has issues in the postseason but if you look at his lines in LA when he pitched and then Houston there is a VAST difference. 

The batting averages of Houston players had an astronomical jump in Houston from playing away. Their catcher had a .036 average away from home, in Houston it was damn near .300. No one’s bat warms up that fast.

However I have come to expect nothing to really be done, Boston to be lightly punished if they cheated and Astros fans to show they are trash still.
