you said you like my eyes
its been a while since i’ve done a narration
alex wanted to run away as soon as nico opened the door
“well it was about time you showed up” nico smirked
“im freaking out” alex whispered
“chill it will be fine by the way chase is getting ready so he’ll be out in a couple of minutes” nico pat his arm
alex decided to head in where chase’s mom and nico’s dad were and luckily they welcomed him with smiles
“alex its great to see you” chase’s mom was probably one of the sweetest human beings he had ever met and that’s where chase gets a lot of his personality from
“hey um what you most comfortable with me calling you” alex asked
“you can call me janet besides you’re family now” alex was so thankful for the easygoing personality that janet had
“mom is alex here ?” chase asked coming out from what would be his room
“he’s right here sweetie” janet called out to him and chase turned towards him and smiled
“hey alex” he was blushing
“chase hi” alex looked at chase up and down
“can you two stop gazing at each other” nico rolled her eyes
“you can’t even admit your feelings to karolina” chase stuck out his tongue
“whatever” nico flipped him off
dinner was actually not bad, chase told his mom about the things that they had done together as of now and occasionally nico would chime in and make a comment
“now nico” her dad just shook his head smiling
“dad you literally don’t see the pda they do everyday its exhausting” nico emphasized
“its fine mr. minoru, its a running joke between us” chase said
“what have i told you about calling me mr. minoru chase, just call me robert because im basically your step father now” robert just squeezed chase’s shoulder
“wait so chase is essentially my step brother” nico asked
“yes” alex rolled his eyes
nico just sighed and chase once again stuck his tongue out at her
after dinner, alex was waiting for chase to finish cleaning his room when he felt janet come up to him
“i haven’t seen chase this happy in months”
“really” alex asked
“when he and mateo broke up, chase was a wreck and he wouldn’t eat and he slowly started losing a lot of that light he had before” janet admitted
“i didn’t think it hit him that hard” alex mumbled
“it had more to do with the fact that his father just always saw something wrong with him. chase never felt that love from him” janet sighed
“look i want you to know that i would never hurt chase, i care about him a lot and i know he has a lot of insecurities and if i could take them away i would but just know that i care about him” alex wanted to clarify any kind of feeling up
“i know that and you don’t need to tell me anything. by the way chase talks about you, its clear to me how much you care” janet assured him
“well im glad” alex sighed with relief
just then chase’s smile came into the living room
“hey alex do you want to come in” he asked
“of course i do” alex nodded
chase’s room was very big to say the least, there was a lot of engineering stuff and music vinyls and a record player
“so this is the famous emails i can’t send vinyl” alex teased
“yeah” chase laughed
“might have to play it for me sometime” alex looked at him
“so what were you talking about with my mom” chase asked sitting on the bed
“just about how she’s noticied how happier you are now” alex sat down next to him
“she’s right” chase nodded squeezing his hand
“what’s making you happy” alex asked
“i mean just you and the fact that you decided to be with me, having nico around. she’s like my sister now, robert is a much better father figure than my dad ever was and just you know having gert and molly around and befriending karolina” chase listed
“you know i would choose you would no matter what” alex told him
“there’s a ton of other people you could have chosen” chase noted
“but i want you and everything you have. you mean so much to me” alex took his hands
“look ive always been compared to other people by my dad, by mateo and its difficult to understand how anyone could like me” chase admitted
“i wish you could see yourself through my eyes” alex said
“maybe i will at least you know i can see a little bit now” chase softly smiled
“i like your eyes” alex blurted out
“really” chase asked curiously
“they feel… like home. its like a soft warm color” alex mused
“i am fucking crazy about you” chase giggled and kissed him
“so am i” alex said in between kisses
they continued kissing for a couple of minutes until nico interrupted them
“stop the pda and get some hot chocolate that your mom is making” nico addressed chase
chase just laughed and pulled alex up and grabbed his hand as they headed into the kitchen
and that’s when alex realized something
he was super fucking in love with chase

LGBTQ+ Novels/Memoirs
Here is the book list from my LIS 618 class. The links will bring you to their Goodreads pages.
The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater (2017) *based on a true story* "One teenager in a skirt. One teenager with a lighter. One moment that changes both of their lives forever. If it weren't for the 57 bus, Sasha and Richard never would have met. Both were high school students from Oakland, California, one of the most diverse cities in the country, but they inhabited different worlds. Sasha, a white teen, lived in the middle-class foothills and attended a small private school. Richard, a black teen, lived in the crime-plagued flatlands and attended a large public one. Each day, their paths overlapped for a mere eight minutes. But one afternoon on the bus ride home from school, a single reckless act left Sasha severely burned, and Richard charged with two hate crimes and facing life imprisonment. The case garnered international attention, thrusting both teenagers into the spotlight."
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Saenz (2012) "Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship--the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be."
The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson (2016) "Two boys. Two secrets. David Piper has always been an outsider. His parents think he’s gay. The school bully thinks he’s a freak. Only his two best friends know the real truth – David wants to be a girl. On the first day at his new school Leo Denton has one goal – to be invisible. Attracting the attention of the most beautiful girl in year eleven is definitely not part of that plan. When Leo stands up for David in a fight, an unlikely friendship forms. But things are about to get messy. Because at Eden Park School secrets have a funny habit of not staying secret for long…"
Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender (2020) "Felix Love has never been in love—and, yes, he’s painfully aware of the irony. He desperately wants to know what it’s like and why it seems so easy for everyone but him to find someone. What’s worse is that, even though he is proud of his identity, Felix also secretly fears that he’s one marginalization too many—Black, queer, and transgender—to ever get his own happily-ever-after. When an anonymous student begins sending him transphobic messages—after publicly posting Felix’s deadname alongside images of him before he transitioned—Felix comes up with a plan for revenge. What he didn’t count on: his catfish scenario landing him in a quasi–love triangle...."
Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe (2019) "In 2014, Maia Kobabe, who uses e/em/eir pronouns, thought that a comic of reading statistics would be the last autobiographical comic e would ever write. At the time, it was the only thing e felt comfortable with strangers knowing about em. Now, Gender Queer is here. Maia's intensely cathartic autobiography charts eir journey of self-identity, which includes the mortification and confusion of adolescent crushes, grappling with how to come out to family and society, bonding with friends over erotic gay fanfiction, and facing the trauma of pap smears. Started as a way to explain to eir family what it means to be nonbinary and asexual, Gender Queer is more than a personal story: it is a useful and touching guide on gender identity--what it means and how to think about it--for advocates, friends, and humans everywhere."
I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver (2019) "When Ben De Backer comes out to their parents as nonbinary, they're thrown out of their house and forced to move in with their estranged older sister, Hannah, and her husband, Thomas, whom Ben has never even met. Struggling with an anxiety disorder compounded by their parents' rejection, they come out only to Hannah, Thomas, and their therapist and try to keep a low profile in a new school. But Ben's attempts to survive the last half of senior year unnoticed are thwarted when Nathan Allan, a funny and charismatic student, decides to take Ben under his wing. As Ben and Nathan's friendship grows, their feelings for each other begin to change, and what started as a disastrous turn of events looks like it might just be a chance to start a happier new life."
Little & Lion by Brandy Colbert (2017) "When Suzette comes home to Los Angeles from her boarding school in New England, she isn't sure if she'll ever want to go back. L.A. is where her friends and family are (along with her crush, Emil). And her stepbrother, Lionel, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, needs her emotional support. But as she settles into her old life, Suzette finds herself falling for someone new...the same girl her brother is in love with. When Lionel's disorder spirals out of control, Suzette is forced to confront her past mistakes and find a way to help her brother before he hurts himself--or worse."
The Music of What Happens by Bill Konigsberg (2019) "IMax: Chill. Sports. Video games. Gay and not a big deal, not to him, not to his mom, not to his buddies. And a secret: An encounter with an older kid that makes it hard to breathe, one that he doesn't want to think about, ever. Jordan: The opposite of chill. Poetry. His "wives" and the Chandler Mall. Never been kissed and searching for Mr. Right, who probably won't like him anyway. And a secret: A spiraling out of control mother, and the knowledge that he's the only one who can keep the family from falling apart. Throw in a rickety, 1980s-era food truck called Coq Au Vinny. Add in prickly pears, cloud eggs, and a murky idea of what's considered locally sourced and organic. Place it all in Mesa, Arizona, in June, where the temp regularly hits 114. And top it off with a touch of undeniable chemistry between utter opposites."
Odd One Out by Nic Stone (2018) "Courtney "Coop" Cooper Dumped. Again. And normally I wouldn't mind. But right now, my best friend and source of solace, Jupiter Sanchez, is ignoring me to text some girl.  Rae Evelyn Chin I assumed "new girl" would be synonymous with "pariah," but Jupiter and Courtney make me feel like I'm right where I belong. I also want to kiss him. And her. Which is . . . perplexing.  Jupiter Charity-Sanchez The only thing worse than losing the girl you love to a boy is losing her to your boy. That means losing him, too. I have to make a move. . . . One story. Three sides. No easy answers."
Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy (2017) "'Ramona was only five years old when Hurricane Katrina changed her life forever. Since then, it’s been Ramona and her family against the world. Standing over six feet tall with unmistakable blue hair, Ramona is sure of three things: she likes girls, she’s fiercely devoted to her family, and she knows she’s destined for something bigger than the trailer she calls home in Eulogy, Mississippi. But juggling multiple jobs, her flaky mom, and her well-meaning but ineffectual dad forces her to be the adult of the family. Now, with her sister, Hattie, pregnant, responsibility weighs more heavily than ever."
Rethinking Normal by Katie Rain Hill (2014) "Have you ever worried that you'd never be able to live up to your parents' expectations? Have you ever imagined that life would be better if you were just invisible? Have you ever thought you would do anything--anything--to make the teasing stop? Katie Hill had and it nearly tore her apart. Katie never felt comfortable in her own skin. She realized very young that a serious mistake had been made; she was a girl who had been born in the body of a boy. Suffocating under her peers' bullying and the mounting pressure to be "normal," Katie tried to take her life at the age of eight years old. After several other failed attempts, she finally understood that "Katie"--the girl trapped within her--was determined to live."
They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera (2017) "On September 5, a little after midnight, Death-Cast calls Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio to give them some bad news: They’re going to die today. Mateo and Rufus are total strangers, but, for different reasons, they’re both looking to make a new friend on their End Day. The good news: There’s an app for that. It’s called the Last Friend, and through it, Rufus and Mateo are about to meet up for one last great adventure—to live a lifetime in a single day."
Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan (2013) "New York Times bestselling author David Levithan tells the based-on-true-events story of Harry and Craig, two 17-year-olds who are about to take part in a 32-hour marathon of kissing to set a new Guinness World Record—all of which is narrated by a Greek Chorus of the generation of gay men lost to AIDS. While the two increasingly dehydrated and sleep-deprived boys are locking lips, they become a focal point in the lives of other teen boys dealing with languishing long-term relationships, coming out, navigating gender identity, and falling deeper into the digital rabbit hole of gay hookup sites—all while the kissing former couple tries to figure out their own feelings for each other."
We are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson (2016) "Henry Denton has spent years being periodically abducted by aliens. Then the aliens give him an ultimatum: The world will end in 144 days, and all Henry has to do to stop it is push a big red button. Only he isn’t sure he wants to. After all, life hasn’t been great for Henry. His mom is a struggling waitress held together by a thin layer of cigarette smoke. His brother is a jobless dropout who just knocked someone up. His grandmother is slowly losing herself to Alzheimer’s. And Henry is still dealing with the grief of his boyfriend’s suicide last year. Wiping the slate clean sounds like a pretty good choice to him. But Henry is a scientist first, and facing the question thoroughly and logically, he begins to look for pros and cons: in the bully who is his perpetual one-night stand, in the best friend who betrayed him, in the brilliant and mysterious boy who walked into the wrong class. Weighing the pain and the joy that surrounds him, Henry is left with the ultimate choice: push the button and save the planet and everyone on it…or let the world—and his pain—be destroyed forever."
You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson (2020) "Liz Lighty has always believed she's too black, too poor, too awkward to shine in her small, rich, prom-obsessed midwestern town. But it's okay -- Liz has a plan that will get her out of Campbell, Indiana, forever: attend the uber-elite Pennington College, play in their world-famous orchestra, and become a doctor. But when the financial aid she was counting on unexpectedly falls through, Liz's plans come crashing down . . . until she's reminded of her school's scholarship for prom king and queen. There's nothing Liz wants to do less than endure a gauntlet of social media trolls, catty competitors, and humiliating public events, but despite her devastating fear of the spotlight she's willing to do whatever it takes to get to Pennington. The only thing that makes it halfway bearable is the new girl in school, Mack. She's smart, funny, and just as much of an outsider as Liz. But Mack is also in the running for queen. Will falling for the competition keep Liz from her dreams . . . or make them come true?"

some updated designs!! lots to say about these!!
Emilia and Mateo’s “Imaginary” Designs
I have a plot update for them ;w; I thought, since their whole motif is arts and performance, that it would be cute to write in a playground roleplay element to their story! Besically as kids, they make up a fantasy world that they play in together whenever they get a free second! In off-time, Mateo writes stories and makes art of their characters, and Emilia starts learning to play music so that she can compose theme songs for them. Emilia’s character is a fire witch who’s able to comfortably use her powers bc they live in a more magical world. Mateo’s character is a healer who follows Emilia on her quests to save the places she defends. I thought it would be a nice place to kick off their obsessions with creativity, and also that it would be kinda fun to do a plot within a plot and kinda try to make up a story that two kids would.
These outfts are the designs they thought up in their game. Mateo later drew up the designs, this being most obvious from the rose on Emilia’s belt. Her gloves keep her magic in when she doesn’t need it, and the cloak is fireproof. Mateo’s outfit is based on a plague doctor’s, but for ease, the mask is just a piece of thick fabric that can be lifted up over his nose when he needs it. The rest of his body is covered to prevent him from contracting infections from fluids.
Holly and Masei
Nothing too new about these designs, their original designs were just way too simplistic bc i didn’t have much of an idea. Holly is a warrior, so his outfit is very lacking in layers and fabric. On the other hand, Masei is a prince, so his clothes are dumb layered and the little translucent piece is supposed to drive home just how extravagant he is.
Khauai, Haven, and Hakeem
I wanted their outfits to be more like their animal motifs! Cevon didn’t get a redesign because his current outfit is civilian clothes which. suits the fact that he gets his power taken away. Khauai is an owl, so his cloak is meant to reflect his wings and the puffy pants + slim boots mimic the legs of an owl. Haven is a selkie, so I gave him his seal coat to wear over his human form. I left the sweater, though, since it kinda melds both worlds for him as opposed to him only wearing his seal coat and Yearning for the Sea. Hakeem’s outfit is supposed to be lionlike, so I gave him the furry collar to be the mane and the furry boots to be his paws. It’s also a little more form-fitting bc he steals Cevon’s powers and as such becomes an incubus. I think he’d embrace that fully.
The Major Arcana
These characters have 3 things each that are part of their designs: an album, a Tarot card, and their name. I decided that the Tarot card would be more involved witht heir demeanour and how they present themselves, so the outfits are based on their album and their name.
Crow, obviously, is named for a crow. His clothing is layered to represent the feathers of a bird’s wing, and his cloak is ruffled to be shaped like the wings themselves. His album is After Hours. His heavy layers also represent him often blocking people out because he feels like he’ll just let them all down (a la Save Your Tears). At the same time, his outer cloak is open, because what he really wants is to be better, but it’s hard to make that go to the inner layers of himself (a la Faith). His clothes are all black.
Harley’s name means “meadow of hares.” His spikey hair is meant to represent windswept grass, while his inner vest is meant to be a little white bunny tumby and his boots are white at the toes to represent paws. His album is Beauty Behind the Madness. BBTM is a little sluttier than AH, so I had to kinda work around that, since Major Arcana generally wear old-fashioned clothing and lots of layers. Underneath his jacket, Harley’s arms are bare and his jeans are high-waisted so that when he’s free to do so, he can shift into hotboy mode. BBTM’s narration is also more smug and more detached, so I felt like that it made sense to give Harley a more modern outfit than everyone else, because he couldn’t care less about the customs of Major Arcana dress or how anyone feels about it. His clothes are brown and white.
Nakoa’s name means “warrior.” I gave him the harnesses on his back and leg to look like he’d be carrying weapons around, even though he never would. His album is Transmissions. The ablum gives off a very aching, yearning vibe, with the narrator sounding alone throughout the whole thing. His mission seems to be to find and protect someone else, while sticking staunchly to one’s ideals and values throughout the quest. Nakoa dresses like Major Arcana should, with his clothes being the most traditional of anyone’s. The lock necklace represents his loyalty to the Major Arcana (as in, he’s locked in) and the heart necklace (while in canon it represents his card: The Lovers), represents the person that the album’s narrator is talking about. I wanted to make him look very “tied up” in his clothes, so everything runs across him. This represents the loneliness at the album’s core; Nakoa is tied up in himself and effectively has no one but the cause to be loyal to. His clothes are purple and blue.
Sunday’s outfit is supposed to contrast Nakoa’s heavily. They don’t wear all of the ties and layers he does. Their design is meant to be open and welcoming, because their album is Dreamland. The narrator of Dreamland describes a troubled past in an expressive and upbeat way, and I thought I’d reflect that in the fact that Sunday is the eldest and effectively the most responsible for the whole group, yet they remain open and their layers stripped despite all that. Their name obviously reflects the sun, so the main colours of their outfit along w the sun at their collar represent the sunrise. Their outfit is iridescent (another ref to Dreamland’s aes), with bases of pale pink and yellow.
Arwen’s name means “royal maiden.” Her outfit is based on the most practical layer of mediaeval royal clothing, with her hood able to pull up to look like a victorian maiden’s bonnet. Her album is Hozier, but I’m going to be hinest and say most of her outfit was designed before this, so I couldn’t find a place to mix in the album..? So the colours of her clothing are the album cover’s colours: orange, blue, and brown.
Elio means sun. I have enough characters designed after the sun, so I went entirely album-based with him. His album is DIVISIONS, a rebellious, anticapitalist love letter to no one. The album is about adventure, love, and the future, so I wanted to give Elio a v futuristic and punky outfit. His outfit is my favourite out of all of them, but I don’t actually have much to say about it? I think it looks exactly how I envisioned, like Elio’s a punk from the future. His clothes are black, white, and silver.
Dawn’s name meaning is obvious, and again w the sun. I went all-album with him too. His album is Meteora, an album that’s essentially about hating yourself, your past, and everyone around you. I wanted to go more emo with Dawn’s design bc of that, but emo style actually doesn’t... appeal to me, plus it’s not very Major Arcana. I gave him some gay little boots to be his choice piece of emo clothing, and then emo’d up a regular outfit instead. His clothes are layered, again representing him building up walls. He has lots of elements that are tied around him, this time to look like he’s sealed himself in, hence them all being horizontal. He burned the edges of his cloak himself and also sliced into his pants so that he looked imperfect and everyone around him would know that he’s imperfect. His clothes are, in contrast, pink, yellow, and blue.
Dovey’s name obviously means dove. Her cloak, like Crow’s is ruffled at the edge to represent bird wings. Doves are much fluffier than crows, though, so in her outfit, feathers are represented by the ruffles in her dress. Now, uh, her album is Wasteland, Baby! and the outfit very much misses the vibe. Dovey is another character whose outfit I had planned before hand, and it wasn’t desidned with music in mind. The one song I did think of while designing her was As It Was, which reminds me of Red Riding Hood bc of the way it opens?? I feel like even though I can’t pinpoint any one vibe that matches her look, I can see her as the narrator slash star of all the songs in this outfit. So IDK, it vibes w me, fjkdshdsfd. Her outfit is grey and brown, like a mourning dove.

Jane the Virgin 3x04 Chapter Forty-Eight
Stray thoughts
1)   I usually cut Xiomara some slack, but this whole flashback where “Jane leaves the nest” because her mother just got a new boyfriend and is taking her kid to leave with him? Yeah, that makes her look bad, in my opinion. It’s one of those things that the show does to shoehorn a theme and make it relevant throughout Jane’s life… but it makes it look like Xiomara took her kid to live at a stranger’s house because he had a pool? If he had been a significant person in their lives, we surely would’ve heard about him before, right?
Other than that, I think it’s an interesting premise to dive into how Jane leaving will affect everyone else.
2)   Rogelio wants to star in one of those Hallmark Christmas movies that my mom loves watching and that make me cringe so badly in order to raise his American profile, and is this the right move for you, Rogelio, my dude? I don’t think so. There must be some other way.
3)   What is this douchebag turning the Marbella into, for fuck’s sake?
Tumblr media
4)   Anezka/Petra just told Jane she doesn’t like her and never has, and it kind of feels good?
Tumblr media
Are you really that surprised, Jane?
5)   So… Petra’s silent contribution to Jane’s rent could be the thing that reveals “Petra” is actually Anezka, right? I mean, Petra is the one who made the deal and Anezka has no idea about it – just like she didn’t know about the argument between Jane and Petra had before the wedding – and hence, she hasn’t been paying Jane’s rent. If she’s confronted about it, though, she could pretend and say she just stopped paying because of the argument, right? How long can they keep Petra paralyzed, though? How come no one realizes Petra is not really Petra? To be honest, if I was her, I’d feel terrible knowing literally NO ONE notices I’m gone.
6)   Truer words have never been spoken…
Tumblr media
7)   First, Rob Lowe. Now, Rafael. Rogelio’s ego is getting destroyed lately.
8)   Was that… a spark?
Tumblr media
By the way, no wonder both Jane and Xiomara are so entitled and somewhat irresponsible. Alba just brought an old lady in a wheelchair to the Marbella just because she fancied seeing her granddaughter. Sure, lady, suit yourself. Do whatever you want while you’re on the clock.
9)   She’s not wrong.
Tumblr media
Of course she should be supportive, but I honestly can’t think of a more ill-fitted job for Xiomara than bank teller. I give her a day.
10) It’s America, so it sounds legit.
Tumblr media
11) Jane was close to figuring it out when “Petra” said she bought the house when in fact she rented it, but then she pulled the “I stopped paying because of our fight.” Instead of getting busted, she got an invite to Jane and Michael’s housewarming party.
12) On the plus side, Magda’s prison buddy just showed up and pressured Petra into following through with their plan and sell the Marbella shares or else she’ll reveal her true identity. Anezka is not an idiot, though, she couldn’t have managed to full everyone FOR MONTHS if she were.
13) So… now that Petra’s not paying half of their rent, Michael and Jane have to cut their budget to pay for those thousand bucks. After a lot of debating, Jane suggests they should just go ask Rogelio for the rest, promising to pay him back. And while I think that’s okay, I feel it’s a bit OOC for Jane to come to that decision so quickly. She’s very proud and doesn’t like asking for help, especially when it comes to money. Although… since she’s rubbing shoulders with Rafael and Rogelio she’s occasionally taken advantage of the good life they can provide for her, so there’s also that. Is it OOC or is it completely in character?
14) Okay, now that Petra has told Rafael that she wants to sell her shares, he’s starting to notice there’s something fishy.
Tumblr media
YES!
Tumblr media
….
15) Weird dinner party does not go well, shocks no one.
16) Not only did Xiomara last only a day, but she actually pretended to like the job before admitting to her mother that she was right. But she’s not even good at pretending because she got caught immediately, and humiliatingly. Regardless, all I can think is about the poor old lady being wheeled around the city because Alba just doesn’t give a fuck about her job.
17) Michael figured Jane lied to him about one of the items on their budget, and to be frank, I’m on his side? Jane is keeping information from him as if he was a child who can’t manage his own money, but he’s got a point. She’s been living at her grandma’s house her whole life, her dad pays for her school, Rafael covers most of Mateo’s expenses, and she “survives” on what I can only assume is a part-time job – since she’s barely at the Marbella. So she might not agree with his filing system, but he’s definitely had more experience being financially independent than she has.
18) Ouch! Jane turned down Scott’s bribe, but Lina took it? Behind Jane’s back? And screwing everyone over because of it? That’s awful!
19) OMG Rogelio is babysitting the moron and why are we having these two interact with each other just now?
20) I really enjoyed the scenes where fantasy young Jane helped Alba navigate her relationship with Xiomara since she always was the glue that stuck that family together. I think the writers nailed this one. It was a great way to show that despite Jane not living with them anymore, her influence lingers, and they both have become better persons because of it. That’s a lasting impact that doesn’t simply go away.
It led to Xiomara and Alba having one of their most honest and mature conversations in a while – Alba encouraging Xiomara to take her time finding out what she likes and Xiomara encouraging Alba to go look for her own passion now that she has her green card.
21) Is Rogelio going to help the moron or break her? Either way, I’m in!
22) Rafael is getting slightly assaulted, isn’t he?
Tumblr media
23) Both, I think. He’s breaking her to help her. I hope.
I'm a terrible sister and that's why I want to drink, so that I don't feel this. (…) Because all I do is cause Rafael pain. And I think my ex-lover killed his mother. (…)  I just feel so bad, you know? My brother doesn't deserve this. No matter how many times I've failed him, he's always been there for me. And then now that he has no family, I still can't pull it together and be there for him.
Leave it to Rogelio to make me not only tolerate the most unlikable character in this show but also feel for her.
That being said, I can understand that this is why she wants to drink now, but there must be another reason why she started drinking in the first place.
24) Why do I continue to be surprised at Rogelio being the best character in this whole show? Not only did he give the moron the best advice anyone has ever given her (“Put on your own oxygen mask before assisting others.”) but he also helped her decide to go to preventative rehab. And then! He told Rafael that he truly is a good person and that he should’ve seen that earlier. And after Rafael told him he was probably not getting the part in the Hallmark movie, he simply shrugged it off and said that Rafael was more important than that. I just want to hug Rogelio forever, he’s such a lovely, wholesome man!
25) It’s not a telenovela without a catfight, right?
Tumblr media
26) Jane and Michael finally decided to move to a smaller place until they can actually afford to move back to a bigger one. And then the narrator dropped this bit of foreshadowing…
And friends, they really believed that would happen... but we're not there yet.
Ugh, what does this mean? Will they break up? Will Michael die for real? Please tell me Jane is not getting back together with Rafael because I will culcutabitch! What other reason could there be for them not to follow through with their plans?
27) Okay, Alba just got a job at the gift shop, so I’m guessing the spark I saw is actually there.
28) “Angels guard the sun”. Those are the words that were underlined in the Bible Rafael’s mother was clutching when she was murdered. I will not try to figure this one out, but I hope it’s something smart.
29) Anezka is fucking ruthless. She demanded Rafael give her permission to sell her shares AND that he sign his own shares over to her.
30) FINALLY!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ya think?!
But... Of all the things, this is what gave her away? Okay, I guess…
31) While I don’t feel this is one of the most iconic episodes of this show, it was still pretty enjoyable. I especially liked the Xiomara/Alba scenes and development as well as everything Rogelio as always, particularly how he managed to be the first person to make the moron seem human. I’m very excited at the prospect of having Petra back, although I have no idea how they’re going to give closure to the whole Anezka/Magda plot. We’ll see what happens!
32) Hope you enjoyed my recap, and, as usual, if you’ve got this far, thank you for reading! If you enjoy my recaps and my blog, please consider supporting it on ko-fi. Thanks!

Here's the interesting thing about Mateo as The Narrator - he both is and isn't.
The show implies that he was cast to do the voice over acting for The Narrator character - so, in that way, he is The Narrator.
But if Mateo is doing voice over acting for The Narrator, that means his lines aren't his own. They're scripted. Someone else is writing these lines and delivering them to him - so, in that way, he's not The Narrator.
Jane still is, or whoever is adapting her novel into a telenovela, and given Mateo's voice, we can assume that this is ten, twenty years in the future. That's more than enough time for more than enough bitterness towards the rest of the family to sink in, for the things that happen in the novel to be taken even more drastically out of proportion. We know that Jane changes things in the novel to make a better story, and Jane maybe doesn't seem like the kind of person who would be wanting her son to do voice over for the entire family's sex life.
Regardless - the witticisms and the commentary of The Narrator that we want to ascribe to Mateo aren't him. That's still Jane. Mateo's just doing voice over. He's acting the role of The Narrator without actually being The Narrator.

JTV thoughts 🤔
Normally I don't post so much about a tv show I follow but JTV messed up my emotions and it is one of my favorite shows. Plus it is a telenovela 🙈. But JTV is an important part of my life because of all the love for the family and friends. I can't believe this week the finale episode will air. It just feels surreal. This season was also kind of surreal. So much happened good but mostly bad. There were some magical moments, but as soon as I thought yeah season 1 vibes, the writers screwed it up. Like Jennie... Come on?! I had very high hopes but meh... I feel like all the characters are being screwed over. Especially the characters development so far.
Here are my thougts.
1. The whole Michael storyline was really painful especially for the team Michael ( I also am a team Michael fan) fans. It felt random bringing him back. Like at the beginning it started good with Jane doubting herself to go back to him and stuff but after episode 5 I was really sad and mad about it. He deserved better! Glad that he has his happy ending with Charlie.
2. So much Abuela trash. I love her but in this season her storyline was most of the parts so random especially with Jorge. But oh well she is happy and that is what matters.
3. I love Ro and Xo so much but the River storyline was too much. I rather would have more focus on Xo getting her life back and see her working, finding her happiness again or something.
4. I love Jane and I’m happy she found her happiness again but some things such as the whole Michael thing felt out of place... also the whole I want Rafael back... Like she is a strong independent woman so I dunnow... Her role felt out of place. And Rafael being an ass and suddenly omg I want Jane back! I mean I love them though but meh... But no complains to Gina's acting ❤. She did a marvellous job. Especially the monologues.
5. The whole Rose and Luisa storyline. Like I’m a big fan of them. They were my favorites but the ending of Rose felt... not real and I’m just sad about it. Like I get it that Luisa is done with Rose and that she wants to be with the family but the love of her life just died and no emotions??! Also I find it hard to believe that Rose is death. Maybe I’m just in denial but with the clones and face swaps I still think it was a clone. I mean she is evil and a sociopath but how she was portrayed in 5x17 didn’t felt as the Rose from previous seasons. I get the whole lost money and Luisa’s betrayel thing makes her a bit nuts but still it wasn't the Rose to me. I just watched some old Roisa clips and saw the hospital scene in season 2. The Rose we saw was also a clone and even then you saw it wasn't her. So it made me thinking that this might be the case again.
I mean it is a telenovela with lots of plot twists anyway. Also it is very suspicous that Bridget and Yara haven't post anything about 'farewell JTV' or something since last week. Especially Bridget! So that's why I think she is not death. So yeah I’m not convinced and maybe I’m wrong but I still hope Roisa get their happy ending. Or that Luisa falls in love again with a Rose look a like or something.
6. The only thing I like was Petra. In season 1 I didn't like her at all but after season 3 I love this cinnamon roll! Her whole character development was good and realistic. I love her friendship with Jane. They are cute mommy dorks together. I hope Petra gets her happy ending with or without JR. ❤
7. If the narrator is not Mateo I will riot haha.
Okayy I’m obviously to hang up with JTV but I really love the show even though the ups and downs of season 5. It is a feel good show with so much love, drama, plot twists and a beautiful, multicultural, talented cast.
I’m so not ready for the ending and curious what they have planned.
Anyway thank you JTV for the lovely years!
That was my TED talk, thank you ~ !

JTV Thoughts, Ch 97
JTV be like, “What if Mateo had been switched by the villain” and my Good Omens trash brain was like, “Ergo Mateo might be the Antichrist.”
Also, I love this win for Alba in this episode. I was getting annoyed with the Magda storyline because gdi hasn’t Petra been through enough, she’s outwitted Magda enough times that I’m actually tired of their interactions, but Magda wasn’t here for Petra this time. She was here for Alba. And Alba fucking slayed. I cheered. GOOD FOR YOU, ALBA! (Here’s hoping this means that the Magda chapter is closed on the series?)
And yes I fucking called it, Luisa was working against Rose, good job Luisa.
Potentially spoilery speculations under the cut:
This is the first time since I heard that someone was going to die this season that I’m not fearing that it’s either Rogelio or Xiomara who’s going to be offed. I think they’re both safe. The final episode better damn well not prove me wrong here. I don’t want them to die.
My theory is now: I’m pretty sure it’s going to be Rose. Which should piss me off as a wlw because Bury Your Gays, but I think it’s acceptable here. Because Rose is a villain, and it’s clear that prison isn’t going to stop her from being a villain, and as long as Luisa and Petra survive the series (and JR, if the rumors of her coming back are true), it’s not really a Bury Your Gays, is it? And it’s not even like Rose would be the only perma-death of the show, either, so.
(My other low-key theories leading up to last night’s episode, and were closed because of this episode, were: Magda, but her story I’m pretty sure is closed now; Jane, mostly in a dark contemplation over the Mateo is the Narrator Theory, but the entire cast says that the finale is satisfying so I have to assume it’s not her plus they’re leading up to a confrontation between her and Rose and so Jane’s gotta be coming out of that one victorious; Alba, but whyyyyyyyyy, that would make zero sense, her story seems Done now too; Luisa, which would actually piss me off, this woman deserves her redemption arc to come to a happy conclusion; and JR, which would be 100% out of the blue and kind of pointless if she’s been gone half the season? I’m absolutely convinced that Raf is safe, because Jane’s been through that bullshit already, and Petra is safe, mostly because Yael Grobglas said her ending was satisfactory and PETRA DOESN’T DESERVE TO HAVE AN ENDING LIKE THAT, THIS ISN’T GAME OF THRONES (presumably, I never watched GOT) OR THE MCU, GDI.)
So, I’m going for Rose as the Major Character Death. And it’s a deserved one, too. (Also I haven’t liked Rose since season... 3? She was a compelling villain in seasons 1-3 but everything about her was just... bleh since.)
AND I AM SO HAPPY THAT THE TOXIC WLW RELATIONSHIP IS DEAD, OFFICIALLY, FOREVER, THANK YOU LUISA FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING.

JANE THE VIRGIN Finale Articles Links Round Up
Jane the Virgin, a show I never missed and affected my emotions on surprising ways wrapped up last week. It did well by plots that I feel like I’ve only ever seen done badly. The finale was pretty perfect in that it highlight what was special about the show and giving us the viewers a loving goodbye. I don’t know where the show will ultimately fit in with the direction in which television is moving, it kind of feels like an end of something and the beginning of something. Going through these fair wells might be a first step.
I’m actually starting with a couple of articles that really weren’t about the show’s finale. The first is technically a review of Emily Nussbaum’s I Like to Watch, as she has been a great champion of the show, as well as generally insisting that the what is considered “serious” vs “frivolous” be reconsidered. This response to Nussbaum’s book starts in particular about her essay “Jane the Virgin isn’t a Guilty Pleasure”. Nussbaum’s essay does a great job at praising what the show does well as connecting it to earlier television shows. (Interestingly she doesn’t associate Jane with camp the way she did with Ugly Betty, nor does she list that as one of Jane’s predecessors despite the fact that both are US primetime networks adapting Latin American telenovelas. I’ll get more into why I think that is interesting and probably for the best later.) The article about her book does more to talk about how it’s been frequently overlooked for shows that seem created for men. In a lot of her book tour Nussbaum has spoken about how the way Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Sopranos were discussed around the time that they debuted drove her into tv criticism. If I were to pick something to be The Sopranos to Jane’s Buffy I’d probably go with Breaking Bad, as it had a notoriously difficult time getting its fans to care about/not hate Walt’s home life. Walt’s home life was about the slow consequences of his drug dealing and gangster activity. There was always a fair amount of gangster activity on Jane, but from watching Breaking Bad could leave you with the impression that there’s no way to make caring for an infant as exciting as the chaos of organized crime. Jane proved that isn’t true.
Also before the finale, The Ringer published this article that is sort of half praise/ half interview with the creator. It gets into the ways it played with the crime drama story types but never really treated it like that’s what it was about. It also gets into the writer’s room, and I was happy to learn that some people there have worked on telenovela’s in the past. It also has some quote’s from Jaime Camil who plays Jane’s father Rogelio de la Vega, which I thought were an interesting contrast to an interview he gave earlier in the show’s run. The Ringer article misleadingly identifies Camil as having starred in the “Spanish language version of Ugly Betty.” There were three Spanish language versions of Ugly Betty, or rather there were three Spanish language versions of the Colombian telenovela Yo Soy Betty La Fea which was the source material for Ugly Betty. Camil starred it the Mexican one, La Fea Más Bella, which debuted around the same time as Ugly Betty. (Fun fact, between LFMB and the later Por Ella Soy Eva, Camil has twice starred in Mexican remakes of Colombian telenovela’s in roles originated by Jorge Enrique Abello) I was at one point obsessed with the whole constant remaking of YSBLF phenomena and Ugly Betty in particular. It was taking on one of the most popular IPs of all time and had to do it in a very different format than the original. (Producing one episode a week for an indefinite number of years is very different than five episodes a week for approximately a year. For starters, there’s going to be a much smaller ensemble.) I never watched the original Venezuelan telenovela Juana la Virgen. It wasn’t remade internationally with anything like the regularity as Betty, and ultimately that may have been in the American show’s favor. Part of me wants to say that Jane learned from some things Betty tried but didn’t necessarily execute so well. And another part of me thinks that not having the burden of massive international popularity allowed them to jettison some of the things that made it a harder to adapt for a different audience. In the original YSBLF, Betty’s family life and work life have this great tension where some of her more questionable decisions (specifically, choosing to help her boss commit fraud to the board of the company) are partially based in some disillusioning parts of her home life (namely, her father loosing his job due to the boss selling the company and never paying out his pension). Ugly Betty never played those two aspects of Betty’s life against her like that. In some ways it was much better to the character. (American Betty had professional ambition in a way that the original didn’t.) But in this not knowing how to connect her family and professional lives, it often felt like it was struggling to make the family life stories matter. Jane the Virgin never had this problem. Partially because it was much more interested in emotional reactions than plot twists, but also, because it didn’t need to follow an original’s example of making the work place drama the engine of the show. Between the different relationships they had with their source materials and how they mined the work/life balances of their character’s they were different shows, from different times. Too much comparison is just counterproductive.
Kathryn VanArendonk wrote beautifully about how the fantastical elements of the story made the more mundane plots like finding a good school for Mateo, and balancing child care and a burgeoning writing career, really work. VanArendonk doesn’t focus on how badly many other shows do on making the housekeeping side of life interesting. The fact that as a tv watcher you’ve been through so many examples of shows that feel like the drag or are just aimless when it comes to the personal life side of the work life divide does contribute towards the sort of miraculous feeling Jane sometimes created, but it’s probably for the best not to focus on the negative examples.
I also want to highlight this great personal essay about how the show dealt with both being an adult and having anxiety around sex, mostly because of cultural baggage. The show didn’t so much reject the things that we associate with the baggage (ie no one abandoned the Church. (Also not discussed was the fact that all three of the Villanueva women had anxiety about sex at some point in their stories, but as Xiomara’s was more about the aftermath of cancer and chemotherapy than culture created anxiety, so it doesn’t fit with Mariya Karimjee’s larger theme. Just bringing it up to say, I liked how Xiomara’s post-cancer story worked out.)
A final one from Vulture about the reveal that the narrator is the adult version of Jane’s son Mateo. I’m highlighting it because the Mateo has ADHD plot was one of the most moving stories the show did during the final season. ADHD is so misunderstood and there were so many ways that this could have gotten a too pat, wrong message of an ending. I’m glad voice over actor Anthony Mendez talks about how even as an adult it’s something with which he struggles.
I cheered for Petra for most of the series. However, due to things in my real life, I currently have a pretty low tolerance for stories about bad bosses. Petra’s worst quality was she was a terrible boss, mercurial and abusive. Inkoo Kang’s tribute to the character is good, and gets at why I’ve been interested in her, and her relationship with Jane, for so long. Despite finding Petra less likable in the final seasons than in earlier ones when she was more villainous, one of my favorite moments of hers did come this season. At one point she says that her “worst nightmare” is turning into her mother.  It could have been just a throwaway one, but then the narrator tells us it’s true and shows us what it looks like, and it manages to be hilarious, heartbreaking a you get why this would be Petra’s worst nightmare.
(The Toast once dedicated a “Femslash Friday” to the Jane and Petra dynamic. Here’s the link if interested.)
After the finale aired Slate also published an article about how the Michael is not dead plot didn’t work and was a disservice to the way love works. I mostly agree. I never really cared with whom Jane ended up.  The show was always more about figuring out haw to build and maintain relationships than proving who was more right for each other. And I did kind of like the “each in their own time” resolution to the love triangle. (I felt similarly to the one in Lost Girl.) I get why the show did it. I do agree it was why the final season dragged in some parts. I do think Michael coming back from the dead reinvigorated the Sin Rostro story just in time to climax on the penultimate episode. Whether or not that was worth it is up to you.
I do want to take this moment to point out that while watching Jane walk down the aisle in the final episode, I realized that there never really wasn’t a moment in the entire where I felt doubt that Jane was loved, or felt unlovable. The closest it ever got to that’s in its depictions of how growing up without a father affected her. But, as connecting with her biological father Rogelio and developing a very deep bond was such an important part of the show, that anxiety was never really felt for Jane. (Petra, on the other hand…) This makes her kind of an outlier of most of the series I watch, whether the was the point of the series (You’re the Worst, Crazy Ex Girlfriend) or kind of a side affect of the surreal and chaotic universe in which it’s set (Broad City, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). I’m not sure what to make of this. Is it part of why it would be more likely to be misidentified as a guilty pleasure? Is it a sign about changes in what makes a heroine “relatable”?
I’ve repeatedly said here that I’m thinking about tapering the amount of tv I watch until it’s none. In Margaret Lyons’s review, she talks about how Jane was in some ways the show that replaced Mad Men in her heart, which reminded me that when Jane started I wasn’t sure I wanted to start any new tv shows. Also both show’s care about episode structure in a way that feels undervalued these days.  I do kind of have to agree with Lyons that some of the final season felt like treading water. (Something that seemed to affect the more character than plot driven shows I’ve watched that have ended this year. This runs counter to most of my theory of what’s going on with tv these days.)
“Have you ever loved something so deeply it was almost impossible to talk about?” Jade Budowski wrote over at The Decider. And yes, for a while now, the things I like the most are the things I have the hardest time trying o talk about. It’s satisfying enough that you kind of want to just point and say “go, experience it for yourself.” Even though that runs the risk of letting it be taken as froth.
Over at Vox, Constance Grady wrote about how the finale worked, despite the fact that most of the conflict was resolved on the previous episode. It’s a loving tribute to how the show knew how to work and give us the happiest of endings without being too saccharine.
Finally, I want to day thanks for making Jane and Rafael’s wedding song Ximena Sariñana’s “Todo En Mi Vida”. Sure, I’ve been following Sariñana since her debut, Mediocre, so this is likely to appeal to me personally, but it’s also a beautiful song about learning to love the unexpected and build a new life around it.

Jane the Virgin 5x04 “Chapter Eighty-Five” & 5x05 “Chapter Eighty-Six” Review
One thing Jane the Virgin has done very well this season is show the central conflict — Michael’s return from the dead — through multiple points of view that are all equally valid, as much as they contradict each other. It’s almost enough to make me not hate the return of a love triangle I thought had been dealt with long ago. (Yeah I know, if I hate love triangles so much I probably shouldn’t be watching a telenovela.)
In “Chapter Eighty-Five,” the concept running through the background of the episode is that of worst nightmares. With Michael regaining his memories now a reality, everyone is forced to face their worst nightmares, and it’s impossible to choose someone whom I feel worst for.
When Michael was still Jason, there was a degree of separation: he wasn’t Michael anymore, he wasn’t the person Jane had fallen in love with and married, so it was easy for her to make the decision to send him away and continue to pursue her life with Rafael. Now there’s no running away from it, and all three players are forced to face their feelings and fears head-on, and hopefully resolve this love triangle in a way that’s healthier than one of the participants dying.
Let’s start with Michael. With the return of his memories, he’s still in love with Jane — of course; he never had the opportunity to fall out of love with her. Now Michael has to deal with the fact that he’s essentially two different people, with two different life experiences and different likes and dislikes, inhabiting the same body. Perhaps the only thing Michael and Jason have in common is their feelings for Jane.
I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge Brett Dier’s acting in these two episodes; while Michael maintains the mannerisms of Jason, bits and pieces of the man he used to be begin to shine through. As Jane observes in one of the dispassionate narrator notes she’s writing for herself, “His laugh is slow to come, but it’s just as contagious.” There’s something disconcerting about watching Jane and Michael talk and laugh the way they used to, except now Michael’s talking about roping calves.
It almost seems more a curse than a blessing that Michael got his memories back. Aside from feeling like he’s two different people, now he has to figure out how he fits into the lives of people who have believed him dead for the past four years, and have moved on without him. So where does that leave him with Jane? My heart tells me he should stop pursuing her and let her be happy in this life she’s built, but that’s hard when his feelings are as fresh as they were four years ago. Especially when it’s obvious Jane still feels something for him, too.
I feel for Jane, I really do. Moving on from someone after believing they’ve died is in an entirely different ballpark from moving on from someone after a breakup. She still loves Michael, and she’s forced to realize she still loves him once he gets his memories back — despite the fact that she loves Rafael, too. (Although it’s Rafael, not Jane, who has the flashback to the moment in Season 2 when Jane professes that she’s in love with both of them, it’s impossible not to draw parallels.)
Petra breaks the whole conflict down into perhaps too simple a form: “Michael is your past, Rafael is your future.” And while I hope that this is where the season is ultimately going, right now it’s impossible for Jane to see it that way. Michael was her past, but now that he’s back she can’t just leave him there. She’s being pulled in two different directions simultaneously — the life she’s built with Rafael now vs the life she built with Michael 5 years ago; the love they both have for her and the love she returns; the special place each holds in the broader fabric of her family — and she hasn’t been given a single second to breathe. And now even her son is being pulled into the drama, and is turning against her.
And then Rafael. Look, I know I said it was impossible to choose sides, but I am Team Raf until the day I die and my heart is absolutely breaking for him. While it takes Jane until the end of the episode to realize what her worst nightmare is — losing Rafael and her son — Rafael has already lived through his worst nightmare. And now he’s being forced to do it again. Rafael already had lingering fears that he was only a consolation prize to Jane; she never actively chose him and now that she’s faced with that choice, she’s hesitating.
Can you imagine someone saying they love you so much that they want to spend the rest of their life with you, but then being unwilling to file for divorce with the person they used to be married to? Or being so unwilling to file for divorce that they go to extraordinary lengths to retrieve the papers after having already sent them off? When Rafael asks Jane if she still loves him and she doesn’t reply — love for the person you want to marry shouldn’t be conditional. Rafael loves Jane with everything he has, as he has proven over and over again, and too often Jane’s love for him comes across as performative rather than genuine.
Rafael knows Jane better than perhaps anybody else, and he knows that she won’t be happy unless she gets the chance to explore what she may or may not feel for Michael. Just as he knows that watching her do that will absolutely destroy him. Given the circumstances, I think removing himself from the situation is the healthiest thing he can do for himself and perhaps the best thing for his and Jane’s relationship in the long run, as much as him asking her to move out hurts her now.
One thing I was impressed with was how mature both Rafael and Jane were through this entire impossible situation, especially compared to how they acted in previous seasons. Remember when Rafael broke up with Jane in Season 1 because he didn’t think he was good enough for her, but he never bothered to tell her that? Although this breakup hurts both of them, they both understand why it’s happening, which leaves room for them to patch up their relationship when the time is right.
And despite their current differences, they’re both determined to still be good parents and present a united front to Mateo. Mateo is, understandably, on his dad’s side in all of this — he doesn’t remember Michael as a stepfather to him, he only knows Michael now as the person who is driving a wedge between his parents.
At least, with all this unfolding, both Rafael and Jane have people that will go to bat for them. (Michael is a little on the outside right now, although he did get to spend some offscreen time with his mom.) Rogelio, despite being firmly Team Michael in the past, reassures Rafael that he loves him; Jane finds perhaps an unexpected confidante in Petra.
In fact, Jane and Petra’s relationship is without a doubt my favourite thing about this season so far. Petra’s character development has been deftly handled since the beginning of the show, and the fact that they got her to a place where the sisters/best friends relationship she has now with Jane feels both natural and earned is incredible. It’s so nice that any tension between them regarding Rafael has dissipated for good (at least that’s one love triangle that won’t be coming back!) and that Jane has found someone she can talk to honestly about her situation that isn’t tangled up in it — she hasn’t really had that since Lina left. (Remember Lina?)
Somewhat surprisingly, there was still no sign of Rose or her lackeys in these two episodes. But with the return of Petra’s mom, Milos making threats from prison, and Xo winding up in the hospital, I think everyone has quite enough secondary drama to be getting on with. Even if it is a telenovela.
Jane the Virgin airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on the CW.

yess second narration and did anyone say love confession
as soon as alex asked where he was going, chase knew he couldn’t lie anymore. besides he was a horrible liar.
“im going home” chase grabbed his coat from the hanger as he went passed alex
“look mateo is an asshole for what he did to you ok ? and he never deserved such an amazing person as you” alex was catching up to him
“look why i’m upset… its not all about mateo” chase sighed
“then what is it” alex asked
“mateo did hurt my feelings but like im used to the way he treats me but that’s besides the point… its just when you called me your boyfriend, it just made me feel things” chase was nervous
“did i make you uncomfortable ? im sorry” alex was in the middle of his apology before chase cut him off
“no i liked the way it sounded and then i realized you were doing it only to get mateo to back off from me and what im trying to say is… i like you a lot and i have feelings for you that i can’t hide anymore so that’s what i needed to say and if you don’t reciprocate then that’s fine” chase admitted before trying to leave again
“wait” alex grabbed his hand
“what” chase asked curiously
“look i like you a lot and you’re the first person that’s ever made me feel this way before and you’re just so different and amazing and i don’t know how good at hinting at my feelings but i need you to know that” alex took his other hand and squeezed it
“you’re not saying that just because you want to make me feel better” chase looked at him
“i would never lead you on like that. im not mateo and i won’t be. besides me asking you to watch movies with me, asking you to winter formal, complimenting you everyday. i thought my hints were getting by” alex blushed
“oh im sorry i just didn’t want to get my hopes up” chase apologized
“there’s no need to apologize, besides you’ve been hurt and i get that’s where a lot of your worries stem from” alex was so understanding that chase wanted to cry
“you’re so incredible do you know that” chase said blushing
“i have my ways” alex smirked
“i guess i can go back now and you know let everyone know im alright” chase started heading back before alex stopped him again
“can i kiss you” alex asked shyly
“huh ?” chase was going to pass out
“can i kiss you if you’re comfortable” alex asked again
“ive been wanting to kiss you since the day we met” chase laughed before he felt alex’s lips on his
when his mom described fireworks, she made it sound very untouchable because personally chase hadn’t felt it with anyone not even mateo
but with alex… he finally understood what his mother was talking about
“GET IT STEIN” chase knew that sound belonged to molly
“what are you four doing here” chase asked as he and alex broke apart
“well we were on our way to find you but it looks like you’re occupied” gert smirked
“you just interrupted us” alex seemed annoyed
“sorry if we’re such considerate friends but now we will leave you two alone so carry on” nico gave alex a thumbs up
“by the way. thank you for finally ending our suffering, it was exhausting to see you two pining over each other” karolina added
as soon as all four of them were out of sight, chase asked
“i still want to go home”
“you can spend the night at my house… that is if you’re comfortable” alex suggested
“i’d like that” chase smiled
as they headed towards the uber they asked for, alex asked
“can i ask you a question”
“anything” chase nodded
“will you do me the honor of being my boyfriend” alex was red
“yes a hundred times yes” chase shook his head very quickly
chase was on cloud nine and what better way than to play nonsense on repeat
fortunately, alex didn’t mind

#JanetheVirgin Jane the Ordained Chapter 64 Season 3 Finale
Jane the Ordained Chapter 64 Season Finale
Episode Rating: 4
Season rating: 5 (for wasting time!)
Holy Moly—the season finale! I didn’t take notes, and this isn’t a recap; it’s more of a look at how our beloved characters are positioned for Season 4.
Jane: Jane was ordained by some kooky on-line church so she could officiate Ro and Xo’s wedding (hope the writers come back to this again, given Jane’s connection to religion—remember the nuns were pimping her out as miracle worker and the second coming of the Virgin Mary).  Her book is coming out, according to an ad on the bus (woo hoo!). She’s got heart-glowing feelings for Rafael, but she’s just reconnected with her first love, Adam.
THIS IS THE PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THIS WHOLE SEASON.  We don’t know Adam; I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but you can’t just drop new characters in and expect me to feel the same way I do about characters I love. First, no love interest for Jane is going to be as fine as Rafael. Adam was cute, but I’ve spent three seasons licking the screen every time Justin Baldoni takes off his shirt and Adam doesn’t stir that impulse in me (Fabian did…eventually). Second, no man is ever going to be as sweet as Michael. I was actually tearing up during those flashbacks (even though I was like, why haven’t you told us about the letter before, Jane Writers?). When Jane found the letter and Michael was talking about destiny…sigh. There’s something about Brett Dier that even made Jennie Snyder Urman change her mind about killing him off in the first season, so naturally the fans are attached to him.  And wasting our time with Sam (remember him from the beginning of the season?) and springing Adam on us just seems like a gyp.
Speaking of wasting time, whatever happened to the whole Catalina arc? Wasn’t that supposed to bring Jane’s relatives from Venezuela into the picture and wasn’t she supposed to write about her family? What ever happened to that? That seemed interesting and it would have brought us new characters we were primed to love/hate because they were Jane’s extended family. Much better than these little three-episode people.
Rafael: Rafael just got by Luisa! Luisa figured out Rafael played her by pretending to his cancer reoccurred, got a taped-up copy of their father’s will and TOLD RAFAEL TO KICK ROCKS!  This could be really interesting! Rafael in poverty would be a total fish out of water thing.  And he might not only be broke, but he might also be alone, too—what with Petra and Jane all booed up with Chuck and Adam, respectively. How will Rafael respond to this kind of pressure? I think Raf has been wasted this whole season with that “Zen Rafael” stuff, Abbey (another character I didn’t care at all about—they could’ve found some other way to reopen Scott’s murder investigation), and mooning over Petra (although Yael Grobglas is always swoon-worthy). Back in Seasons 1&2, Raf had an internal struggle going between being an entitled and rich bad boy and being the good man Jane made him believe he could be. When things got rough, Raf would go into a dark place that even Jane’s love couldn’t bring him out of. That gave him a struggle we cared about.  This whole season, Raf’s been wearing gauze-y white tunics and hanging on the sidelines. Get him back in the game, y’all.
Petra: The one good thing about this season was Petra! Petra always seemed spot on and even when something seemed like a bit of a stretch—like, say, Petra being a bawse mom to Jane’s hot mess motherhood—somehow it felt like a true evolution of the character and it worked. I like Petra’s vulnerability when it comes to Rafael, but honestly, I prefer Petra with Chuck (please let Chuck have some oil money and be hella rich while Rafael is dirt poor!). Any time Yael Grobglas is on screen is a good time; let’s hope Anezka doesn’t knock Petra off.
Michael: Dead. I get it; it’s just never gonna sit right with me. And even though it’s interesting to see where Jane’s journey ends up, I feel like the show lost something when Michael died.  Why was his hair so long in the flashbacks? I do not remember Michael being in the man-bun territory.
Rogelio:  Rogelio is one of my favorite characters and I think he was underutilized this season. Jaime Camil can act his cute butt off—remember when he told Xo how much he missed Michael or when he got angry at Alba in Spanish?—but the Jane writing room seemed to only use Ro for comic relief.  I hope he’s front and center next season. Well, he’s about to be a daddy, so that should be something. And keep him paired up with Justina Machado, who is hot fire.
Xiomara: I know I sound like a broken record, but this character was wasted, too. Xiomara is the woman who slept with her baby daddy’s arch-rival, got pregnant, and had an abortion—that’s Erica Kane territory!—but all Xo did this season was give Bruce and Rogelio Nancy-Reagan-looking-at-Ronald-Reagan eyes.  Give this woman a foil. WHERE WAS RITA MORENO?!!!!!!!!
Alba: Yes! Alba’s got a man. I like Jorge and Alba and I hope we get to see some SENIOR SEX next season. Alba pays for a room at the Marbella with her AARP card. Haaay!
Dennis: You know this is my boo. His episode with Jane’s first almost date had some nuance to it that I feel the writers backed away from. It makes sense that Jane and Dennis would lean on each other and that that dependency might get tangled up in romantic feelings. A better way to deal with it might have been to have had Jane not want to be involved with another cop and then have her really think about what kind of man she wanted. But instead we got…Catalina.
Anna and Ellie: Just like their mom—adorbs!
Mateo: He kinda annoys me. Sigh.
The Narrator: The Latin Lover Narrator dropped a tiny little hint during the wedding while the camera was on Mateo, so that made me think maybe TLLN is Mateo. Or maybe it’s Mateo’s half-brother—if Jane gets pregnant next season.
Luisa: All I know is the way Luisa put her feet up on that desk, Yara Martinez better bring some La Reina del Sur to the Marbella!
JTV moves to Fridays on The CW next season. Since I have no life, that’s perfect for me. This was my least favorite season of the three.  Hopefully, Season 4 will get back to form.
xo xo,
Kellybelle

Title: They Both Die at the End • Author: Adam Silvera • Number of Pages: 368 • Rating: 5 / 5 Published: September 5, 2017 • Read: June 20, 2018 - June 23, 2018
Goodreads Synopsis: On September 5, a little after midnight, Death-Cast calls Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio to give them some bad news: They’re going to die today. Mateo and Rufus are total strangers, but, for different reasons, they’re both looking to make a new friend on their End Day. The good news: There’s an app for that. It’s called the Last Friend, and through it, Rufus and Mateo are about to meet up for one last great adventure—to live a lifetime in a single day.
My Review: Oh. My. God. I have so much to say about this beautiful beautiful book. First of all, I only just now realized that the book was published on the day the story takes place which is like such a little detail but it’s perfect. I wonder whose idea that was. Anyway, this is the book of Adam’s that I’ve been most excited to read, and for good reason, because it’s definitely my favorite of the three that are out right now. I don’t even know where to start. Ahh. Okay.
First of all, the concept of this book is genius. I know, I said that about More Happy Than Not too, but this book is even more genius. Genius and evil, that is, which is definitely the Adam Silvera brand. I mean this in the best way possible, I promise. I of course fell in love with Rufus and Mateo right away, and since the title gives away the fact that they both die at the end, I knew this book was going to hurt badly, but that sure as hell didn’t stop me from reading it. Why do I do this to myself again? Who knows. I found myself hoping against hope that maybe Adam would be kind this time and let them survive, but I knew deep down that they were both still going to die. It’s okay, Adam, I forgive you. Maybe. (Yes.)
I didn’t expect that there would be other narrators besides Rufus and Mateo, but that ended up being one of my favorite things about the book. Yes, I loved following Rufus and Mateo through their last day and watching them fall in love (*sobs*), but I really really loved how every single character, no matter how insignificant, had their moment to tell their story. I also liked how every character was introduced with whether or not they received a Death-Cast alert that day, and what time they received it at if they did. It kept everything very consistent and warned me right away whether or not I would see that character die. Seriously, though, my favorite thing about this book is the little connections and how every single character’s actions affected another one, whether positively or negatively. I loved reading other characters’ descriptions of Rufus and Mateo, too. I loved those little missed connections and special moments that these total strangers had with each other. And honestly, those characters could have each had their own books with their own stories. I, for one, would love a companion novel about Zoe and Gabriella. Just saying.
This book was so beautifully well-written, and I didn’t want to put it down for even a second!! I was never bored; instead, I was surprised to see how quickly the pages flew by, knowing I was so close to the inevitable deaths of many of the characters. It definitely kept me guessing, too; most of my predictions did not end up happening at all. Also, I was only left with one loose end untied: what the HECK happened to Delilah??
Some little things that I loved: Becky Albertalli’s cameo (she better not have died), the Scorpius Hawthorne references that connected More Happy Than Not and They Both Die at the End (although Harry Potter is actually mentioned in History is All You Left Me instead of using Scorpius instead… I wonder why), and the fact that Delilah and Victor were a couple (anyone who’s read V. E. Schwab’s books will get this).
I would also just like to share that the fact that I turned on the oven in my house to make pasta for dinner not long after finishing this book was kind of terrifying. No spoilers.
Overall, I absolutely loved this book and I am very excited but very scared to read What If It’s Us. Will it be Becky ending or an Adam ending?? I DON’T KNOW AND IT’S STRESSFUL!!

im still annoyed that they killed off michael. and this whole season has been so ??? to me. what was the point of catalina? i was expecting us to find out more about alba and for her to have a legit storyline but catalina's went no where and we're 3 years later on the show so that storyline is dead i assume. now we're bringing back the toxic luisa/rose relationship? why cant luisa be happy? idgaf about scott/aneska @ all. theyre could have been some rlly good storylines with raf and michael 1/2
2/2 dealing with all the dad angst stuff (michael being around mateo more, etc.). i was liking their budding friendship too. plus they missed out on the opportunity to have a father’s day episode where rogelio takes michael and rafael out for male bonding at the spa with one of a kind lavender robes. plus all the qt villadero family moments jane imagined back in the beginning of this season for her, michael, and mateo. now we dont get to see anything like that.
Exactly!!!! This season, full offense, has been a clusterfuck. Catalina is gonna be gone (I’m assuming), so what was her purpose? Just to make Jane upset because she was dating Rafael? All of the signs that pointed to her being shady were just…ignored??? She was here and then she wasn’t and all she really made me feel was annoyance. I really wanted to find out more about Alba’s history and instead we got one story of a sister she fought with over a man. For being a show centered around women and family dynamics, lots of the drama seems to be about women fighting over men.
Don’t even get me started on the new Rose/Luisa storyline, like are we really supposed to empathize with these two anymore? In the phone call Jane received she was told “your husband’s death was the result of his gunshot wound” so in the end, Rose still killed Michael, leaving Jane a widow. I love Luisa, but if she’s the reason Rose keeps coming back, I’m through caring about her. I care about Jane and Michael far more than I care about a guest star who’s only around to be a mess and continue her toxic relationship with a murderous sociopath. Luisa deserves better than that, and so do those of us who are looking for healthy lesbian representation.
Honestly, if they push Jane/Rafael again, I’m 100% out. One of the great parts of this show was the positive depiction of blended families. Michael and Rafael’s dislike of each other provided some tension at the start, and then as they slowly worked it out we got to see a great dynamic. Michael being Mateo’s stepdad and loving him like he was his own, being respectful of boundaries while still wanting to be more than just a babysitter to him was one of my favorite parts of this family, aside from the Villanueva women dynamic. Jane/Rafael is cliché and dull, they had nothing in common and their family unit is nothing special or interesting. I can forgive the writers if they pair her up with someone new (one interesting theory I read on twitter is that the narrator is her current husband), but if they go back to Jane/Rafael, I’ll know that Michael’s death was nothing more than a cheap way for Rafael “Second Choice” Solano to end up with Jane.
What Jennie did wasn’t good writing, it was just cruel and lazy. It was cruel to dangle his life in front of us and Jane, cruel to threaten to take it away, then give it back for a few episodes, then take it away again. It was lazy to kill him as an afterthought, and to skip forward three years so that she doesn’t have to deal with writing the grief and anguish Jane is feeling, so that she can flash back to it whenever she deems it convenient. If Jennie’s too stubborn to admit that sometimes stories change, and the way you imagined a story ending isn’t always the way it should end, that’s fine, but that doesn’t mean I have to kiss her ass and pretend that what she did was revolutionary.

Jane the Virgin 2x09 Chapter Thirty-One
Spoilers disclaimer (please read before sending messages or writing comments.)
Stray thoughts
1) Okay, I really liked the exchange between little Jane and the little boy for two reasons. First, the fact that, even though Alba was teaching Jane a very dangerous lesson that perpetuates harmful stereotypes for both boys and girls, little Jane knew from the get-go that’s not a proper show of affection and she wouldn’t acknowledge it…
Tumblr media
Second, the fact that the little boy taught Jane a far more valuable and realistic lesson…
Tumblr media
If someone is mean to you and treats you poorly, they most definitely don’t secretly like you. On the contrary, they openly dislike you. Abuse and mistreatment should always be taken at face value.
I do wonder what connection the show will make between this flashback and the current storyline…
2) So…
Tumblr media
Michael and Jane are not officially back together but it seems this episode is going in that direction… I’m actually curious to know how far into the show the love triangle will actually be over (personally, I’ll consider it over when  Jane has stuck to ONE of the love interests for at least 5 episodes in a row…)
3) Grandpa? Are we going to meet Rogelio’s FATHER?!
4) Ah, hell, what a way to tease me! He’s not coming… and now Rogelio says that she’s kind of depressed. I’m predicting they have split up.
5) YES!! This is way better than what I had expected!
Tumblr media
Rogelio’s mom seems to believe that he will be devastated when he finds out, but if he is, I think it will only be momentary. I hope. I have a lot of faith in Rogelio. I think he will be thrilled.
6) Damn, Magda really did a good one on Petra. Things are not looking good for her…
7) “Great Books 105” sounds like such a boring class, tbh. Also, prediction: all the tall students? Basketball players who were probably promised a passing mark in Jane’s class without her knowledge, or something like that.
8) So… the students used to call the class Books for Ballers. I hope Jane finds a way to motivate them.
9) Michael might or might not be dating someone. So what? Xiomara looked at him as if he was cheating on Jane, but Jane was the one that dropped him like a hot potato TWICE to be with Rafael.
10) It’s really sweet that both Jane and Xiomara trust Rogelio to be able to handle the situation. I really, really hope he doesn’t disappoint me…
11) The whole baby-can’t-sleep plotline reminds me of the Mad About You live episode in which the two characters were trying to use one of these techniques to get baby Mabel to sleep on her own. It was a great episode, definitely groundbreaking, and I don’t think it receives enough recognition, probably because it was a 90s sitcom. Jane is, in fact, using the exact same technique they were trying out in that episode.
12) Shouldn’t they take the moron to a therapist or a psychologist to see if they can help her trigger some memories? Just telling her “please remember” shouldn’t have worked so easily…
13) Well… drawing parallels between Pride and Prejudice and basketball is a bit far-fetched, yet she seems to be making a connection with the students. But how are they expected to hand in a paper in their second class?
14) Rogelio… shame on you… you’re in show business, you should’ve read between the lines…
ROGELIO: My father is dying. XIOMARA: What do you mean? ROGELIO: I mean, think about it. He was too ill to travel. And I can't even bring him up to my mother without her changing the subject. Clearly, he is dying. JANE: Who is dying? XIOMARA: His dad. He thinks. ROGELIO: I'm not ready to lose him. But I must stay strong. I have to help my father achieve everything on his bucket list. I have to make sure he gets to see Bette Midler in concert. And Wicked on Broadway. He always wanted to vacation in Mykonos.
15) Good for you, Rogelio. He reacted really well. He was mostly surprised that he hadn’t realized sooner, and he didn’t understand why his mother thought he wouldn’t be able to handle it. So instead of freaking out about his dad being gay, he’s worried that his mom doesn’t trust him to act maturely in the face of a situation like this. YES YES YES. Rogelio, I fucking love you, you are truly the best fucking character in this show.
16) Oh, Mateo, ya nasty! What a bitch move!
Tumblr media
17) She failed the McBaskets dude and I’m sure she’ll suffer the consequences, although I really hope she doesn’t.
18) OMG Rogelio organized a super gay dinner and I’m loving it! And I 1000% believe THIS should be made into the official prayer before meals…
Tumblr media
19) Oh, she didn’t want to tell Rogelio because she didn’t want it to be real, not because she didn’t trust Rogelio to react well. She’s just afraid about losing her life partner and being alone, which she’s never been before. But I really, really, really love the fact that NOT ONCE did she say anything even remotely discriminatory. No one did. This is how you do a “gay” storyline. Well done, show. Well done.
20) Petra and Rafael are bonding, and Petra actually gave Rafael some solid advice about his mother (although I would 100% support him not talking to her, ever.) And what do you know? They found evidence against Magda…
21) Good commentary…
NARRATOR: Oh, my God! This perfectly encapsulates what's wrong with higher education! Privileging athletics and alumni contributions over academic rigor!
And this is one of those times in which the narrator seems to be voicing exactly what Jane would think, and that’s why I sometimes feel the narrator might be her, you know?
19) Okay, this is where this storyline has taken us…
Tumblr media
20) YES!!!
Tumblr media
21) Uh-oh…
Tumblr media
NARRATOR: It should be noted that these words will come back to haunt Petra. But you don't know that yet. Pretend you don't know that.
I’m actually not a fan of this… “foreshadowing”, for a lack of a better word. I think the phrase was ominous enough to require that type of meta-commentary, and it’s one of those instances in which it’s better to let the viewers make that connection when the time comes, you know? It kind of ruins the future reveal, in a way.
22) Are we back to this? OMG this fucking show and the constant and annoying back and forth! Can’t anyone be IN LOVE with the same person for more than two episodes straight? They fall in and out of love every other week! What type of people are these?!
Tumblr media
It annoys me to no end, you have no idea.
23) Michael girlfriend confirmed, then.
24)
Tumblr media
25) So, he turned her down? I think not showing at her house would’ve sent a better message. If he showed up, that means that he still cares. Also, when did he make time to meet a new person and start dating them,  being on the run and all of that?
26) Grandpa Gay!
Tumblr media
27) OMG!
Tumblr media
Why did she lie to Rogelio, though?
28) I’m zero invested in the storyline of Rafael and his mom. Meh. Rafael just doesn’t do anything for me. I couldn’t care less about him.
29) So, Mia isn’t Mutter, and then this happened…
Tumblr media
Is Mutter Rafael’s mom…?
30) Okay, alright, show, color me mildly interested. You win.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
31) My favorite part of this episode, as usual, was Rogelio’s storyline, but I’ll admit that the cliffhanger definitely grabbed my attention. I hope this leads to something interesting because Rafael usually bores the shit out of me.
32) Hope you enjoyed my recap, and, as usual, if you’ve got this far, thank you for reading! If you enjoy my recaps and my blog, please consider supporting it on ko-fi.Thanks!

  The Improbable Insanity of Cats:
Andrew Lloyd Webber first had the idea for “Cats” in the l:ate seventies. He grew bored one day during the technical rehearsals for “Evita” and got to thinking about writing music for existing lyrics, something he’d never done. Maybe he could use a book of poems—say, that old T. S. Eliot book his mom used to read to him….
The idea proved anything but irresistible. No one wanted to finance the project: the show’s producer, Cameron Mackintosh, had to solicit small-fry investors through newspaper ads; Lloyd Webber took out a second mortgage to make up the ultimate shortfall. He had composed an epic, genre-spanning score, using a Moog synthesizer to imitate meowing, but, when he played it for Twyla Tharp, hoping that she would choreograph what would have to be a very dance-heavy musical…Tharp said no. A director candidate fell asleep while Lloyd Webber was pitching him. A Warner Brothers executive reminded him that half the world favored dogs.
“You make a living with movies and TV and it’s alright; it’s better than heavy lifting. But theater is fun.” – actor Orson Bean, 91, who’s playing a cardinal in a local California production of Bad Habits. “My secret to longevity is gratitude. The longer I live, the more grateful I become.”

Halfway Bitches Go Straight To Heaven
Wanda Wheels bristles when Mateo calls her “kind” in this sprawling, funny, foul-mouthed, messy, moving ensemble piece, Stephen Adly Guirgis’s first new play in New York since his Pulitzer Prize winning Between Riverside and Crazy five years ago. “Don’t pin a ‘kindness’ target on me,” Wanda says. “There’s a place for kindness. It’s not here.”
Here is Hope House, a government-funded temporary residence in New York City for women who have been cruelly treated in life and now are junkies, drunks, ex-cons, former hookers, or mentally ill, or just New Yorkers who have nowhere else to go. Over the course of the three hour play, we come to learn more about their complicated lives, and wind up sharing the affection the playwright feels for them, even as they curse each other, confront one another, furtively drink or take drugs, get physically violent. But there is kindness too; it’s just in disguise….
Greater Clements
There’s a joke Maggie and her son Joe like to tell on their tours of the local mine in Samuel D. Hunter’s latest play: “Guy falls down into the mine. His boss yells at him, ‘did you break anything?’ Guy shouts back, “only rocks down here, sir, not much to break.”
But as Greater Clements makes movingly clear, even when there’s nothing left, there’s always enough to break…It’s surely no accident that even Maggie and Joe’s family name enforces their sense of isolation, and of doom – Bunker. The play is rich with such symbolism

Broadway Plus One
What began as “Slave Play” playwright Jeremy O. Harris to corral his rich friends to subsidize tickets for his artist friends who couldn’t afford Broadway tickets has become a formal program: At checkout people can now add $25+ to their order for “Slave Play” to buy tickets for others who can’t afford them. The tickets are then distributed through a number of non profit partners including Broadway For All.
Amazon Alexa can now do more than just turn on your lights by voice command, or play a song from Cats. You can now order tickets to Phantom of the Opera on it as well.
For just $2 more, theatergoers to “Jagged Little Pill” can purchase a digital copy of the cast album when they buy tickets to weekday performances through July 2, 2020 before December 31, 2019
Eden Espinosa, Alex Newell, and Jessica Vosk will share the role of “Narrator” in the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center on February 17, 2020

Here was the theater I’d been waiting for. The actors spoke directly into microphones, facing front, like singers. The technicians running the show were visible, with their equipment, though they were often in costume themselves, and even spoke lines. Video, music, lighting, dance, speech, and action went off with amazing precision, while still feeling as though it was all being freshly improvised. Seeing them was like seeing a favorite band, and over the years I went to every performance I could. I became convinced that Liz LeCompte was one of our greatest living artists.
  Rest in Peace
Danny Aiello, 86, an Oscar-nominated actor for Do the Right Thing, was a veteran of seven Broadway productions in 11 years. His roles included the macho South Philadelphia father in the hit comedy “Gemini” (1977), for which he had already won an Obie Award for the play’s Off Broadway run; a violent tough guy in “Hurlyburly,” in which he replaced Harvey Keitel in 1985; and a Hollywood director clinging to his past in “The House of Blue Leaves” (1986). Describing his preparation as an actor, he said: “One minute before I go on, I look up at heaven and say, ‘Mama, don’t let me make a fool of myself.’

Jtv Chapter Ninety-Seven Semi-liveblogging
I have thought sometimes so might as well, under the cut for spoilers
I love Emmy Raver-Lampman. Broadway star, Allison Hargreeves, and hottie
I feel like they would have DNA tested the baby or ... hmmm, but I think she remembered what Mateo looked like
LOL if there’s some data embedded into Mateo or something.
I don’t want to feel sad so I’m making jokes
This is Mars stuff *yawn*
I hope this Clarissa franchise person is legit, and not related to crime, but...
HOW DID RAF AND THEM NOT THINK OF THIS, We the viewers did. But I guess whatever we’re seeing at a telenovela and they’r enot, blah blah blah
I’m very bi and the wife in the travel commercial is hot. The one in the bathtub.
Jafael has some right... when they’re reasoning that a baby swap is unreasonable
The narrator is not comforted tho. Hmph
I’m really anxious because I don’t know what the writers are putting Luisa up to....
what the f*ck are you gonna do this to me jtv...
I mean to be fair we wanted this more telenovela right but...
TBH i was surprised when they said a guru was a she. Like Petra just started in with a her and I was like oh? ALtho maybe it’s a known guru, but i feel like it’s gonna be something odd
*sigh* will petra ever know peace?
Even if Mateo wasn’t their bio kid it’s not different! DNA ain’t anything, if it’s true we’re gonna expand this family to include other Mateo, bring it ON!
Petra doesn’t need Clarissa........ eff you Maggie
“This river’s dam has burst” - why did you make me read/hear this
the new phone and alarm sound has got to be relevant.... but what
Oh ho hoh hoo, Jane saying Jorge, and Alba getting mad 👀🍿
I guess for the lyft joke
but man that tension, also yeah JAne you just talk about everyone’s business in this book... shiz gonna get rough, huh
Alba doesn’t want to know she’s a hypocrite that damaged her daughter and granddaughter’s view of sex
help.... river... win... another... emmy?
I really have low investment in this though
Jane should use a pen name. That way she doesn’t have to cut out Abuela ....................... is her pen name gonna be a Male Latin Lover............................................. I cracked it folks
Rogelio is gonna make the crew make a fake emmy’s night and make River thank Pond... I swear
Y’all gonna make sure mateo is actually in his room, unlike the time Raf kicked out Jane
I know Magda joke but... accessibility? Think about it Petra
Uh, Milos was supposed to be in prison, it’s not unreasonable for Jane to be worried about Rose, especially now that there’s six out there...
Great, now I have anxiety, altho hopefully it makes for something interesting
