Mer Legend!!!

It's not mermay yet but I just had the sudden need to draw merman Legend, so this is that and also me doing lighting practice. Idk if I like it all that much but it took forever and I'm proud enough of it so like, yayy!!

The colors and like, design are inspired by @bokettochild (I think it's them, but just in case it's not FlamingIdiot on ao3)'s fic You're Not Alone (https://archiveofourown.org/works/52216039) design for him, because the way he was described just -

Aryll was captivated and so was I, so I knew I had to draw him like that.

Anyways yeah pls take my legend and bcuz I don't draw the LU boys enough if there's any others u want me to draw (if you could give me like, a prompt of something they might be doing) I need to practice so I would very much appreciate <3

Legend turning into a rabbit or a merman in front of the rest of the Chain

It hadn't exactly been intentional, nor was it remotely desired, but when Wild had nearly drowned himself, Legend hadn't had much of a choice.

What he hadn't expected was Hyrule immediately pulling out a flute and playing a tune upon seeing him swim up the river with Wild in tow.

"What are you doing?" Legend asked, genuinely baffled.

Hyrule yelped. "This one talks!"

"Do shapeshifting merfolk usually talk?" Four asked nervously.

Sky squinted, his harp already pulled out, before he cocked his head to the side. "...Vet? Is that actually you?"

"Why wouldn't it be me?!" Legend threw his hands in the air, nearly letting go of Wild, who yelped. "Shapeshifting merfolk?? What kind of insanity have you guys run into?"

Warriors burst out laughing. "Aren't you the prettiest thing?"

Legend's face turned redder than his tail. "Shut up! This item comes in handy, thank you very much! We'd be down a cook if it weren't for me!"

Wild sank into the water so only his eyes were visible, the tips of his ears tinged pink in apologetic embarrassment.

"It's certainly a very useful item," Time commented with a smile.

"I'll stick to my Zora armor," Twilight muttered as he chuckled.

"Can I try it?" Wind asked eagerly, running towards the shore.

Legend sighed, dragging Wild to the others. "Sure."

Legend really should have known better. The tidal wave that crashed upon the entire group from Wind's splashing soaked everyone to the bone, and the ensuing water war caused such rivalries that it took a week before the war had settled.

“Cannonball!” Twilight takes a running start and jumps off the edge of the Domain to splash into the water.

“Rancher! You’re going to drown me!” Legend’s shout is pointless because Twilight’s still underwater.

The group, having nothing else to do, is taking advantage of the warm temperature to swim and splash in an empty corner. Blue stone steps down into the water before dropping off. Those who have swim gear are either wearing it or piled it on the edge of the floor for later use.

“I want to try!” Hyrule goes to the same spot Twilight was, turns, and runs for the edge. “Cannonba—ahh!” He slips on the water right at the edge and, instead of jumping, windmills his arms and flops into the water belly first.

Wind winces; the smack of skin on water has to sting. Hyrule surfaces with a shriek, ignoring Legend’s attempts to give him an arm to hang on to. “Twi! This is your fault!”

“Mine! That’s not fair, what did I do?”

“You got the floor wet!”

“It’s the Zora’s Domain! What do you expect?”

The argument continues, which means the rancher doesn’t notice Time swimming up behind him. Wind catches the old man’s eye and nods when he gestures for silence.

“There’s water everywhere—” Twilight is saying, and Time surges up and out of the water. His arms wrap around the rancher’s shoulders and drag him under.

Hyrule promptly looks for a new victim and goes to heckle Four, towing Legend behind him. Warriors has somehow gotten in the middle of Time and Twilight’s battle, although it’s unclear whose side he’s on. Sky floats on his back away from the chaos, happy soaking in the sun.

Everyone is having a good time in the water, except Wind, who’s sitting on the edge, splashing his feet. Well, and Wild. The champion sits against a pillar, watching with sharp eyes. He makes no move to join in the fun. Wind could get in, but he’s curious what’s keeping Wild on the edges.

Mind made up, he pulls his legs out of the water and moves to sit beside him. “Why aren’t you swimming?” Nice. Subtle.

Wild grimaces and pulls his attention away from the water. “I think you should know the answer to that.”

“I don’t? Did I miss something?”

The grimace grows stronger. “Wind, you thought a monster was trying to drown you that time in the ocean. Legend freaked out when we played Chase. I’m not…I just don’t think it’s a good idea to get in the water with everyone.”

The sailor can’t help the slight shudder; he doesn’t like thinking about the confusion of sinking. How much was Wild’s weirdness, and how much was the lack of oxygen?

remember when i said i would doodle the boys in chronological order WELL I LIED/LH I COULDNT RESIST DOING LEGEND NEXT IVE HAD BETTA LEGEND FLOATING AROUND IN MY BRAIN FOR AGES I NEEDED TO DRAW HIM LMAO rambles under the cut as always!!

Yes he has 2 eyes his hair is just whacky lmao It's not dyed or anything, it just seems to naturally grow pinker over time as it grows out!

He's on the smaller side of the chain and is definitely insecure about it. he 100% flares up his fins to look bigger. he is SO pink. his tail is super flashy and pretty and makes warriors SOOO jealous LMAO

He's got tons of trinkets he's gathered from his adventures! definitely the most well-traveled mer of the group, he's been to a lot of places. he has a special soft spot for shiny things and jewelry.

He's got his fire rod! and an amalgamation of other magical jewelry and items. He's one of the few links that can switch out his tail for a pair of human legs, but he keeps that a secret because he thinks he's the only one who can. Hylia bless these boys lmao they tell each other absolutely nothing omg

the others have nicknamed him sea bunny and he swears he hates it but will still let Hyrule call him that without complaint<3

Splitting pain

Sky scanned the surface of the water for the next few hours as he tried to search for any evidence that his brother was fine, hopefully in some boat or raft

What he wasn't expecting was Legend's face to pop out of the water, exhausted as he called for them.

"Vet!" He called, bringing Twi's attention, who came running into the shallow water with him to drag their collector out.

The vet was panting as they dragged him into the shallows, Sky tried to ignore the massive fish tail and scales all over his body but it was hard not to look at the dazzling pink.

Legend looked almost nothing like his hylian self, pink and gold scales covering his entire body, his ears replaced with long earfins and unaturally dialated violet eyes. He had fangs for teeth, claws for fingers, three sets of gills, one on his neck, sides and tail, and most importantly, the massive fish tail for legs.

The veteran yelled as a Twilight accidently pulled too tight on his body, moving his new, harsh wounds. His body was covered in claw marks, leaking red into the tranquil blues.

Sky stopped them at where they were in about knee-deep and the rancher chuckled, "first a bunny, and now a fish. What else can you do?"

Legend only let out a pained groan at that.

"How do we change you back then? Will you need help?" He asked,

"I just need to get back on land, but the transformation is painful. My lungs are full of water"

Both hylian heroes winced.

"Okay then, we'll pull you out on three. One, two three!" On Twilight's command, Sky heaved Legend out of the water, aware of how the transformed vet braced himself tensly.

It didn't even take a second before the torture began, Sky felt as if he was experienceing it himself. The gills were the first to go, shutting and forcing Legend to only take in air, if it weren't for the water locked in his lungs. Legend's head tilted backwards, as he silently screamed, lungs gurgling. Scales started to painfully force themselves back into skin. Streams of water dribbled out of his mouth, constantly retching only to be stopped again as a sickening squelch came from the tail violently tearing apart, some kind of slime spraying out. The scream this time was now audible as some of his lungs were emptied, but water still gurgled up his throat. Sky was painfully aware that the vet had still not been able to draw in a full breath, and the transformation was only prolonging the excruciatingly long process, their collector clearly begining to fade. Final pools of water were choked out as the transformation finally ended and their vet was able to finally take in a strangled gasp.

The other two heroes were calling out to Legend the entire time in panic but trying to comfort him or do something to help, ultimately not being able to do anything to stop the ear splitting pain.

Sky was trying not to cry at what he had just witnessed, Twi had a very disturbed look as he tried to calm down their gasping brother who let out a whimper at their touch, skin still sore. Sky rummaged through his bag and pulled out his final potion while Twilight found some bandages as they worked on Legend, now unconcious in the rancher's lap. The two awake heroes made eye contact, sharing a grimace at the thought of what they had just seen Legend go through,

"Every time?" He whispered,

"Let's just hope it doesn't have to happen again anytime soon," Twi replied.
